  • Day 16– Colorado, USA– NFD?

Usually don’t have breakfast at all (except on weekends with DH.) But this morning, I really felt like “a little something.” Bone Broth wasn’t going to cut it this time. So I ate some leftover spinach-artichoke dip I had in the fridge.

I’m still well under TDEE & also below 500 cals…. So today could still turn into a Fast Day yet.

    Day 16 (again)

If we end up doing a December Challenge, I will happily join.

Christmas Eve & Day will definitely be NonFast Days for me. I’ll be sticking to plan the rest of the month too.

My Mom will be in visiting for a month & half, so the fasting will be very difficult with her here. She doesn’t understand the research & science that back Intermittent Fasting, so she fears for my health when I skip a meal.
Sigh. She means well, but following the 5:2 plan with Mom here in the house will be a double challenge!!
    🙂

    Day 16 UK NFD

Trying to do a FD this week but they all keep turning into NFDs. All my own fault (self sabotage) and I feel bad but realised I let myself have “The white stuff” SUGAR and now I have that craving and I was doing so well! Time to redeem. Tomorrow will be a FD! A Successful Fast Day at that.

Good news though I feel bad and headachey and I didn’t previously on FDs or NFDs so that motivation for me, cut the sugar, more energy and felt good.

    Day 16 – London,UK – FD

After a heavy weekend and start to the week I am back on track with FD today, will do another on Friday and hope that will be enough to repair any damage caused. Didn’t go mad eating but had quite a lot of wine over the few days!!…wine is my weakness!!

Will you keep you posted on how it’s going. Enjoying all the posts and various challenges!

    Hi uk nfd day 16

Thought I would share a blog from mfp

It’s late. You’ve just had a hell of a day juggling your job, kids, expectations and never really being able to step away from your inbox because you have a smartphone. You finally make it home after a 90-minute commute that’s really only 25 minutes without traffic, open your fridge to a plethora of healthy green food choices and think:
    “Screw it.”

    Then you order a pizza.

This scenario, or one like it, plays out every week with people trying their best to change their health and fitness habits. No matter how motivated we are in the morning, we can get driven to the edge by life and lose touch with why we’re on this crazy journey in the first place. Or sometimes it’s frustration with what we perceive as a lack of results. But no matter what kind of ledge you’re on, there are ways to get back onto the path you started. Here are just a few that have worked for my clients.

Enjoy that pizza. No really. The choice was made. Now it’s time to move forward. So throw out those leftovers and get back on track as soon as possible. A few slices will not ruin your lifetime of health and fitness, but the longer you nurse that case of the “screw its,” the longer you delay success. So enjoy the indulgence! And use this as an opportunity to learn how you can bounce back even faster.

Make a fallback plan. Almost every Thursday, my clients write their fallback plan for the weekend. While you’re in a good mood, before you come across the “screw its,” sit down and think about what the minimum-minimum is—what’s the ONE THING you need to do to feel like you’re still on track? Is it eating vegetables? Drinking water between adult beverages? Doing 10 push-ups?

Be realistic. Any healthy choice is still moving forward. Now write down your fallback plan, or take a picture of it on your phone so you’ll remember it just before the “screw its” happen.

Ask yourself, “What have I done well? What have I learned?” Most of us get fixed on outcomes. Weight. Sizes. Results. But evidence from 40 years of motivation research has shown that focus on the process rather than the outcome leads to better results. So when you’re feeling discouraged, take an honest self-assessment. What have you learned? What’s gotten easier? And what are you doing well that will help you for a lifetime?

Remind yourself that no weight-loss journey is linear. There’s always plateaus. Always, always. Even for you. Yes, you. You will have plateaus. If I sound redundant it’s because no one thinks this applies to them. But the people who successfully lose weight and keep it off are the ones who keep going. Like Winston Churchill said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going!”

Tell someone what you’re thinking. Eighty percent of my job is showing up and listening, which you don’t really need training to do. Seek out a friend or a forum and let people know what you’re thinking. Most of the time just saying stuff out loud to people you know are sharing your struggle is enough to see things in a different light.

Remember that the average American gains a pound a year. So even maintaining your weight means you’re above average

    Coda, wise words indeed.

    Day 16, Gozo, Malta, NFD

Today I went out for a coffee without having breakfast with the mother of my son in law and after going to mass we had coffee at McDonald’s cafe of my Donald’s and I had their cheese and ham sandwich also. Later for lunch I had a healthy baked fish with capers and tomatoes and boiled vegetables about 350 calories. As it’s my son s fourteenth birthday today I ordered a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and had a slice of it already. Also at 400 pm I stoped at my sister in law and had a coffee with a small slice of bread pudding. She didn’t put any sugar or butter in the bread pudding and although it had chocolate it was supposed to be a healthy version. So tonight I’ll just have a banana and sparkling water for supper, nothing else. I hope that way I’ll stay within my TDEE or a little above it.

I’m not reading all Posts here but just read your Coda and want to say thank you for such practical advice. I need it today. The main thing is to indulge but stop indulging and start afresh. Well done Coda.

Good evening/night everyone. Remember tomorrow is another day.

Coda, as others have said, great post. Old WC was right about some things…

@Pissuposa, ok now started my LF 36 hours. We can do this!!

2nd post when I read that blog I thought it was so relevant to not only me but a lot on this thread – hence the share.

@Ciren if we run a 21 day challenge we can commit as usual to posting everyday. Then for the rest of the month if anyone wishes to continue posting they can do so but not compulsory more like a drop in center. I think there will be enough pressure on everyone as everyone gets busier. I and im sure others will still be around.

Pissupoosa and Sarah57 I’ll join you for a fast after my evening meal if that is ok? We are meeting friends on Friday who are leaving for Oz for 6 months so won’t do my usual Friday fast.

Pissuposa and Sarah im into hour 11on my FD too. Will think of you big when the fog brain and hunger pangs hit later

    Day 16|NFD|Toronto
Yesterday turned into an FD after Monday’s rather poor, to be honest abandoned, effort.

    Day 16 | FD | Bucks UK

I don’t normally do a midweek FD but given it my all and with the help of a busy working day it has gone well… I knew I was reaching breaking point when it was home time at 3pm and a staff member was pecking my head with her demands (i support mobile devices for staff). Instead of snapping at her, I visualised a lovely cuppa waiting for me at home, smiled sweetly and told her to email me then I walked out.

Half way through guys, nuff love all 😊

Day 16. Florida. USA NFD. Great 64 hour back to back fast days… broke my fast with brunch. Feeling good don’t feel any stress from back to back fast days.

    DAY 17, 18, 19, & 20 WELLINGTON NZ. ALL NFD’s

Four days of Golf with a group of 12 guys (all the OH’s have been left at home, I feel terrible !!!)

So the challenge will be to limit the intake of food and “hydration” over the next four days. I hopped on the scales this morning so I have a bench mark to measure how successful my discipline will be 🙂

Take care everyone and I’ll think of you all every time a decision has to be made concerning my eating and hydration requirements. I’ll take inspiration from you all. Cheers Mike

    Day 16 | third post.

Wise words Coda (as usual) 🙂
Sarah, Coda, anyone else (I missed?) for the 36h liquid only challenge?
Lany36 – are you going for 36h fast? Guess you’ll be breaking fast before us right?

Just had some smoked fish and grapes (odd combination i know!) – that’ll do me for the next 36hrs, until 8am Friday morning.
I shall be keeping you all in my heart – sending you strength and taking inspiration. All the best!

Day 16 – WA USA NFD

Ate a tad over TDEE yesterday but was quite hungry. I made sure I wrote it all down to keep accountable.

Someone asked about bone broth – it was my first time making it. I did not dilute it to drink it. I did count a cup as 66 calories as someone suggested. It was quite tasty. Not sure how it. Comes out to be so many calories seeing there’s no meat and just the flavoring from the carrots, celery & onion. It did help me through my FD.

    Day 17 – Melbourne – NFD
Good FD yesterday, not hungry. Thanks, Coda, have bookmarked Nov 16 to return to your post, when needed.

    DAY 16 USA Hawaii NFD

4 lbs lost so far. Fast day tommorow uk x. Cant wait to see results at the end of the month for us all.

    Day 17 West Australia FD
Thanks Pissupoosa for your encouragement. Since Nov 1st I have been VERY diligent, mostly because I have NEVER been heavier in my life – not even when pregnant! ( sorry for shouting but I was annoyed at myself) Have had many half-hearted efforts to be healthier before but this challenge and forum has been wonderful for me. First it has made me accountable as in REALLY accountable. When I stopped guesstimating and started writing down every morsel I ate and actually started counting calories ( not my favourite pastime and a bit of a pain) I was shocked to see just how much I have been overeating and fooling myself into thinking ‘ this little piece of … won’t hurt.’
All those sneaky little calories took their revenge in the spare tyre around my waist ( I swear the spare tyre was so big if we’d had a flat tyre I could have provided an adequate substitute from around my waist !!)
So, for me, having the discipline to post daily keeps me focused. The first thing I do in the morning is log in and read the posts for motivation and to see how everyone is going. Who knew I could keep it up for 17 days! Great post coda and others. The advice is timely and necessary.
I really do think of this forum when I think about eating something and try to work out if I’m actually hungry or if it is habit. The FDs have helped re-set my hunger levels and I am consistently consuming far less than pre- Nov 1st. My OH has noticed and is curious as to how a group of strangers have more influence than he had 😋
On NFDs I am more rigorous than FDs which kind of look after themselves ( 500 calories is not much so sticking mainly with liquid helps). It seems to be the NFDs which derail me and I suspect others, so I plan and I write down and I count. ( It’s only for a few weeks and if it means a healthier future I feel I can do that.)
2 kgs down, and I no longer have to wear just the 2 pairs of jeans and few tops that fitted.
Wishing everyone a good day/night and thanking you all for keeping me on track.
One happy little vegemite from Oz !😃

    Day 16, NYC FD

I had two social events mon/tues so had to move my first FD of the week to today. For some reason I have been so hungry today! I have stayed within my 500, luckily I don’t break the fd’s bug the thing that I have a prob with is staying within my tdee on nfd’s
Tomorrow I have a ‘friendsgiving’ dinner so I will eat very lightly all day so I can have some space to enjoy dinner.
I am doing my second FD on Friday.

    Day 16, NFD, NC

Today’s NFD has been fine. Complementary bfast at the hotel was around 400 cals. Lunch was 440. Then 200 for snacks. So at 1040 right now. I’ll be having a light dinner tonight! Traveling makes it hard to eat well since we are out in the field all day. I’m hoping to do 2 fast days back to back tomorrow and Friday! I feel that’ll give me the boost to stay on track. I haven’t gotten super off track, just had to eat out the past 2 days for one meal a each day, which I never usually do. Anywho, wish me luck with my fast days! I’ve never had 2 back to back. Good luck everyone!

    Day 17 New Zealand FD
Weigh in tomorrow, hopefully a smaller number

    DAY 16,NFD, Canada
Lots of inspiring posts to read this evening, thanks Coda and Lilymartin.
Today I found my energy lagging a bit and I am getting a bit bored with my soups and salads. Had a couple pieces of bread, which I have been avoiding these past 2 weeks. Enjoyed the bread as I never have before And now have bounced back and re-found my enthusiasm.

Note to self, put a few enjoyable foods into NFDs, so that the process does not become tedious.

Day 16: Pacific NW USA, NFD

I am now officially in the “healthy” BMI range!! Down 1.4 lbs this week. Entering the 2nd half of November with high hopes that I will soon be able to zip up those slacks, suits (including a suede 3 piece) and jeans I saved from long ago. They may be slightly out of style but I’m gonna wear them with pride!

Friends over this evening so I’ll catch up with all of you in the morning!

    Day 17 NZ FD
Pissaposa I’ll break my fast at 1pm Friday. Will be slightly longer than 36hours but I need it after my less than ideal NFDs this week

Coda, thanks for the inspiring words!!

    Day 17 | Derbyshire UK | FD

Day 17 – Staffordshire UK- NFD
    (yesterday was a FD 😀)

Yesterday’s Fast Day was easier than expected, think it was due to being so busy and going to bed early so the evening munchies don’t get me. Nice to get both FDs out of the way for the week.

Day 17, NFD, New Zealand. All good for me today… ate my TDEE.

    Day 17 – Cumbria – UK

About to complete 2 back to back FD (will break my fast at lunchtime) = Monday 2030hrs until Wed 1900hrs Fluid only Fast (max 200cal consumed) – had a 400cal dinner Wed evening – was really pleased with my will power last night whilst the rest of the family tucked into a large bowl of butternut squash risotto (a family favourite) – I had a plate of steamed veg and a small fillet steak cooked on the griddle and no snacking. I kept up a good fluid intake during this 60+hr fasting period which helped a lot and also ensured that I did some exercise each day.

Weigh in this morning shows a total loss of 3.2kg for November so far! so happy with that as had been stuck on the same weight for a couple of months before!!!
Heading off to an aerobic class soon – will be breaking my fast at lunchtime – having lunch with my daughter- some lovely mother daughter bonding time.

Thanks to this group for keeping me accountable during this November challenge – reading your posts have kept me inspired and on the right track.

    Namaste

    Day 17. Sussex U.K.
    NFD.
    Just under TDEE yesterday.
Have planned today on lose it app. Miss breakfast.
Split calories mostly between lunch and dinner, allowing some for milk in tea and coffee.
Having a cold means the temptations, whilst out meeting friends, have been removed. Lol
I do wonder whether I might need bereavement counselling for the food which I have chosen to give up.
I still love cake, dumplings, pies and puddings of all sorts. Now try to have them occasionally because I know they will derail me, as I am a carb addict.
Thank goodness for all you out there on this forum, my counsellors.
    Good luck everyone.

    Day 17 UK FD

Sending positive thoughts and warm wishes to fasting buddies Pissapoosa, Coda, Lany 36 and anyone else fasting today. Stay strong!

    Day 17, NFD, London.

Good to read Coda’s inspiring words- as I was quite annoyed this morning that after yesterday’s FD (I eat my 500 cal, i.e., not just water), the scales did not show any loss. Disappointing- especially since I felt quite weak in the evening and went to bed really, really early. But. This time I’m prepared to change my (bad) habits, so I am not going to console myself with [insert any sugary food that catches my gaze].

Started reading Dr Fung’s “The Obesity Code”- as many people here have mentioned it. Quite interesting, and absolutely terrifying to realise that I have been doing it all wrong. Until two years ago, I was a regular runner and since I did a decent mileage each week (plus races/ half marathons), I was getting away with “murder”- grazing through the day, and regularly eating high carb stuff (I don’t eat meat)- while staying quite slim. But when the music stopped (bad recurring injury – I can no longer run)- those horrible habits really caught up with me. So I am not looking for a “diet” but a new way of eating, long-term.

    Have a good day, everyone.

UK day 17 FD, never managed b2b fasts before but think I can do it today , have planned and can managed a salad lunch then a Mexican style dinner – can fill up on the coleslaw ! Good luck all

    D17, Melbourne, Australia FD
In the middle of my 48 hr fast – a few hunger pangs now and already thinking of my break-fast dinner tomorrow! Still no way I’d break it now – if I get too hungry will just go to bed. Evening always seems to be the worse time and I always feel ok during the day so should, I expect, get through to dinner tomorrow with not too much problem. Actually once I get through to 36 hrs, I feel stronger to keep going through to 48hrs.

Itsmyturn – I’m inspired by your 64hr fast. Well done!

In fact inspired by everyone here trying to achieve a better self! X

    Day 17 – London, UK – NFD

@pissupoosa – thanks for the info on Coombe Farm will have a look at the website.

Had a good but slightly more difficult FD yesterday, I agree they are more difficult after a less than good previous day! Going to continue until lunchtime then will keep today a light NFD and another FD tomorrow. Was planning b2b FDs but not quite ready for that leap of faith yet!! Need to keep my head in a good place for my 5-day trip to Scotland next week to visit the family.

Have a great day everyone and thanks for all the encouragement and inspirational posts!!

    Day 17 Italy – NFD

    Day 17, Gozo, Malta, NFD

Day 17 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

Fasting tomorrow. Feeling even more exhausted from even greater sleep deficit. Can’t wait until this course term is over and I can rest up and sleep in!

    Day 17 Portugal FD

I must do a FD today, l really must…I haven’t been successful all week in keeping to a FD. I must get my mind focused otherwise I just eat without thinking. If I do well today I will continue into tomorrow so that I get two FDs in the week.

Day 17 Forbes Central NSW Australia:NFD: Still travelling. Left Melbourne this morning and have driven at least 7 hours. Great countryside and some very historical old buildings en route. Going to see the Dubbo zoo tomorrow which has a savannah setting for the animals. Should be very interesting. Have allowed myself free reign last 2 days. My life is undergoing a drastic change. Family notified me today that they have found a care bed for my mother-in-law near her granddaughter and they are moving her in on Monday. So when I get home I have to pack up the rest of her things and my carer role is over. It has come as a bit of a shock but I’m sure it will be for the best. It means more time for my grandchildren. Maybe I can really get my head back on track for fasting etc. sorry this has been all about me. Looking forward to catching up on thread and getting more acquainted with everyone.

    Day 17 Cornwall UK NFD

A bit wobbly FD yesterday so came in just over 500cals. I don’t think this colder weather helps, seems my body wants to stock up for winter!!

The weather is foul here today very wet and very windy but I was able to take the dog out for a long walk before the heaviest rain arrived!!

Another busy childcare day today and doing 16/8

Thank you Coda great post as always!!

Aiming for 36hr liquids only fast starting tonigh. Starting when we finish supper with the children around 5.30.

I’m definitely up for December challenge, we are away with family so it wont be easy! My target will be to maintain!!

Good luck, stay strong, onward and down!!

    Day 17 Brisbane Australia NFD
Didn’t count calories so not sure if I undid all my good work on my FDs – note to self: must count calories next week!

US SC Day 17 NFD. Successful fast yesterday. Looking forward to a nice breakfast here soon.
Fuvvie… you are in my thoughts as you finish up your vacation and head home. It will be quite a change for you and I’m sure in some ways you will feel a little at a loss when you’ve been used to such a responsibility. Enjoy your extra time with the grandchildren, and save some for just you 😊

    Day 17 : Cheshire, UK : NFD

    Day 17, Australia NFD

Really enjoyed my nfd today but stayed easily under my tdee. Actually found that I’m feeling really great after the b2b’s. Weighed myself this morning and down 1.4 kgs this month now, which is excellent for me. And well on my way to the months goal I was loosely aiming for of 2kgs. I am getting really close now to my end goal so that is really exciting for me. Have stayed off bread for almost two weeks but broke that tonight with a chicken salad roll for dinner, hoping that doesn’t effect me even though well under tdee.
Good luck everyone doing b2b’s, looked like there were a few of you.
We’ll done B2tf on reaching your healthy weight range, what an accomplishment.

    Day 17 USA (Illinois)

FD today. Keeping to my 6:1 for maintenance. Staying at my target (well, within 1 pound) but still NFD’s are my hardest. I’m busy as can be, expending lots of calories just living and doing. It has been especially hard following a choir rehearsal that I conducted, I am just so hungry. My snacks haven’t been that awful, but they are at night. Ugh.

Hit a deer on the way to rehearsal last night. Damage to car isn’t terrible but significant. Like I needed something else in my life, taking care of insurance claims and repair.

I will join the December 21-day to stay at maintenance.

Coda – you are so wise in your shares. Thank you for being there with us and for us. Oh, and yes. I did enjoy the pizza. 😜

    Onward and downward!

    Day 17 – Canada – FD

Today is a FD. I am going to keep busy until suppertime tonight. I will workout this morning with weights, I have an appointment at noon and will then include a long walk afterwards.

    Georgia/USA/Day 17/FD:

So I’m having a good morning. Loaded up on rocket fuel. I’m contemplating a movie date with my this evening. I’m not sure if I want to go, because I enjoy movie popcorn so very much and I can’t have any today. It’s quite selfish to deprive him of a movie because I can’t seem to change my thinking. So I’m going to see how it goes this afternoon and then figure it out. Happy Thursday everyone!
