  • Day 14, 15 NFD’s, NYC

Ooops I forgot to post yesterday. I had to reschedule my FD’s because I have had social events both on monday and tues. So my FD’s this week will be on wed and friday.

I am noticing my clothing is fitting a lot looser even though strangely enough the scale is not changing that much.

So that is curious but as I said I will definitely take it.

    Day 16 – Melbourne – FD
Thanks for the inspirational quotes, people, I am keeping a note of them! and thanks AH for the inspirational words and the video link – now I have an ear-worm, but it’s a Good one!

I have been lurking on some of the other threads, as well, and am really taking on board the importance of developing the ‘WOL’ mentality and not seeing this as a quick, short term fix. Well, if I’m Really Honest… I do want a quick short-term fix… πŸ™‚ but I’d like it to morph into a WOL, and feeling a bit optimistic that this forum and all you experienced long-termers are helping that process. I particularly take on board the saying ‘some people want a change but don’t want to change’ and I’m sure that has been me for ages. Too self-satisfied that because I eat healthily – grow and Love my vegies – (despite the fact that I eat Too Much)it must make it somehow someone else’s fault that I’ve gained 6-7kg (14lb)…if you know what I mean. Now that with the help of you lovely people I’ve ‘pulled up my Big Girl pants’ and admitted that I just need to learn (persevere… over time…a long time) to do something differently.

Also trying, like andexhale, to be cheerful most of the time and not do the whole sackcloth and ashes thing. Have had some grumpy moments…

    Good Day to All

Day 16 Australia NFD – at an all day conference with no control over the food (all muffins and sandwiches) so will control portions and I skipped breakfast.

    London | day 15 | NFD

Yesterday’s FD turned to an NFD around 3 when I felt quite rotten with my cough/cold and decided to have a late lunch. That was all for yesterday – I skipped dinner and fasted until midday today (so about 20h liquid only).
Lunch – chicken with rice and salad
Dinner (with friends) – Thai (very) spicy chicken (kai krapow?) with roti
OK not the healthiest NFD for me but hey it was good food and good company πŸ™‚

I’m going to do a 36h liquid fast starting tonight (finishing Thursday morning). Got my organic bone broth ready. So I’m good to go.

Ciren2 and others – how much bone broth do you guys take during an FD? This is my first try; not quite sure how much to have. Does it need diluting ?

    Me again
That was a nudge nudge Mr AH as if you didn’t know lol although I ain’t got a clue what those ^^ mean. Was that a hand up in Wellington? I reckon you should volunteer to lead a 21 day challenge for December and ease the stress on Ciren. She needs all her strength to be able to deliver the Christmas mail. 21 days would be long enough to focus on but short enough for busy December. No doubt a lot who have now developed a habit of posting everyday will still be here even after 21 days. Is that a yes?

    Day 15 USA Hawaii FD
I’m calling this for my FD since I’m keeping to 514 calories that I’ve already eaten for a 24 hour period. Pretty pathetic for a FD but seems the best I can do right now. Hope to get in a good 24 liquid FD soon.

@pissupoosa – can you let me know where you get your bone broth, if you don’t make it yourself?

    Thank you

    West Australia Day 16 NFD
Being extra mindful of what I eat on NFDs. I absolutely refuse to let the benefits of FDs be undone by not being mindful on NFDs. Otherwise I am simply another yoyo dieter.

    Day15 – Canada – NFD

Just a regular day and not counting calories. Will jump on board tomorrow and keep my nose to the ground once again. Did see the scale down 1 pound today for the past week. A bit disappointing, but will keep on.

    Day 15 E. Canada NFD

Well today has been interesting, in terms of the ‘shape’ of my eating, i.e. when during the day I most like to eat. But also a warning to others about calorie counts of items one doesn’t make oneself. My estimate for a tuna wrap sandwich was well above that quoted from various sources on-line. My point is that if people are having trouble losing weight, it may be because their attempts to accurately judge what they eat, are foiled by inaccurate counts by on-line sources or even those ‘apps’ that some have on their phones. Just a thought.

    Anyway:

The usual breakfast: 180. A 25 km bike ride ( likely my last such ride before the weather really starts to go south), then a big lunch. I had to query the cafe owners how they made their curried tuna and apple wraps, so that I could try and compute the calories. If they were correct that the ratio of mayonaisse to tuna was 1:6, and that there was 3/4 cup (about 12 T.) of mixture in the wrap, then that’s 2 tablespoons of mayo and 10 tablespoons of tuna and curry and apple. So 200 for the mayo, and maybe 5 ounces of tuna (140 grams) or 280 calories, and then the wrap itself – I think 150 calories – oi, that’s 630 calories. For a sandwich.

I meant to eat 1/2, ended up with 3/4, so about 460 calories went down the hatch, must say I was hungry. I tried to eat slowly, notwithstanding, and to be patient as I listened to my body and how it found the amount. I forewent the taco chips, but did eat most of a chocolate chip cookie for about 250, which made a big lunch of 710 calories, minimum.

I wasn’t hungry later for either a coffee break or supper, save for a small protein snack of about 100 calories, so that’s about 1000 calories for the day. IF I counted correctly. I’m still not that hungry, and the evening is getting on. I think I like my food in the middle of the day, pity this isn’t easy to arrange socially many days.

@mazie 10. I’ve noticed the same, even though I think my eating has been pretty on point for the week, I was disappointed to see that I’d only dropped 1 pound. Let’s work at it for another week and see what happens then. Don’t give up! I’ve noticed that my clothes are fitting better and I seem to be standing a little bit taller.

    Day 16 – New Zealand – NFD

Day 15: Pacific NW USA, 2nd half of b2b FD’s. Yesterday had coffee with cream, white tea plus 244 cal of steamed halibut and cabbage. (OH made wonderfully smelling fish tacos but I stuck to my FD!) Today, only coffee with cream, white tea and water until I step on the scales in the morning for my 2nd week of Nov weigh-in.

We’re starting the 2nd half of November with 66 strong challengers! My spread sheet is almost all solid check marks with our steadfast group! Let’s make the next 2 weeks even more consistent with our daily check ins! Picture how good you will feel going into the holidays with the newly reduced you! And visualize how mindful your eating will be to help you choose what foods will pass your lips! 🎢Celebration!🎢 (courtesy of Action’s link!)

In it to thin it and Action – thanks for the good thoughts for our day!

    ================================

I do wonder if Jessiboo, baygirl (exams?), swizzle300 and latchia who we haven’t heard from in a good while may have dropped off. And marcies – are you joining us on a daily basis or just popping in with a question? Let me know.

    Day 16 | Derbyshire UK | NFD

    Day 15 – Los Angeles – NFD

Sorry I missed yesterday. I’m rooting for everyone even when I miss. I will try and be more consistent.

Diet is going great. Really happy with the results.

Tomorrow is a fast day. Looking forward to it. Will try and make a large vegi soup again. It’s been a life savor. Whoever told me about the soup it’s made the biggest difference so thanks a million!!!

    Day16 – Staffordshire UK – NFD?

DH came to the end of a particularly stressful few weeks at work so we celebrated with a rare take-away, picked a small pizza instead of the usual medium.

Today was supposed to be a NFD but might try and do a FD see how I feel later.

    Day 16 UK NFD

    Day 16. Sussex U.K.
    NFD.
Managed my first back to back fast. just under the 500 cal both days. I think it helped that I felt unwell with a throat ?virus. A relief to fast after two weeks with family and lovely daughter in law who is a feeder. Always bringing what she thinks are treats. I also found it difficult to miss breakfast in front of the little ones.
Now to manage the non fast days. Will miss breakfast today and see if I can make that a new habit.
I do so love the quotes that people contribute on here. I have definitely been someone who wanted a change without wanting to change. ‘Big girl pants’ pulled up tight today. Lol
    Enjoy this day everyone.

    Day 16, NZ, FD
Continuing FD & hope to keep going overnight to create b2b as I won’t get another FD opportunity this week. About to start doing home baking for family gathering so that will test me!!

Lilymartin – I agree with what you said about controlling NFDs also. I am total yo-yo & need to change (otherwise I’m just doing the binge/starve merry go-round, just not so merry!!).

    Take care all. Xxx

UK day 16 FD Right time to get serious ! Due to OH needing to use up his annual leave had an extended weekend , really enjoyed it but have indulged , but still have half the month left and I really want to show a loss this month, a pound will do , so fasting today , and planning for the weekend as that’s my usual downfall but have booked an early morning pump class for Saturday ,off to do some HIIT now and will have a good catch up on the posts with a coffee after to get some extra inspiration

    Day 16 NFD Nz
Blow out with Russian Fudge. Otherwise had Greek yoghurt and berries, then garden salad and just verges for tea
FD tomorrow, will make it last thru until Fri lunch

    Day 16 Italy – FD
Yesterday my FD went pear shaped around 3pm, my dangerous o’clock! I ended up feeling sick and haven’t eaten since 5pm. I’m hoping to go 24 hours until at least 5pm today but, will have to have dinner as my OH is going away with workmates to .tuscany for 4 days.
I actually can’ t wait for him to go, I could do with the break psychologically. I think it will probably do him good as well, he’ll either come back in a better frame of mind, or if not I’ll have grounds to make him sit down and have a good talk about what’s going on.
All a bit higgeldy pickledy but I’ll get straightened out soon before the weekend

    Day 16 – Switzerland – NFD
Well, after all that blah blah about accountability, I took my feet off the pedals last night and had a bit of a crash, food-wise. Have just noted it all down on MFP and drawn a line. Will have a sensible NFD today and fast tomorrow. Feeling sheepish, and a bit bloated…

Day 16, FD, New Zealand. Nearly at the end of my second back-to-back FD. Like yesterday, I found it very easy, thankfully. Just lots of water and jasmine tea. It may be helping that the earthquake aftershocks are making me quite tense, so my appetite feels very reduced. I did manage 18,000 steps today – more than half of that into the teeth of gale winds on the way home! Waistbands are feeling much looser, as are my tops. The weather has been atrocious recently, so I haven’t needed to get out my summer wardrobe yet. My aim this month was to fit those clothes I haven’t worn since last summer a lot more comfortably than I wore my winter clothes. Another fortnight on this November challenge!

    Day 16: Dublin FD
Hello all. NFD not great, stayed within cal limits but queasy after eating. Think I might be becoming more sensitive to certain foods, especially rich ones that maybe I am truly sensitive to but acclimatised myself to – not a bad thing! But is anyone else experiencing this? FD today and will do some HIIT later for 30 mins. Keep up the great work!

    Good morning, lovely people.

    Day 16, London, FD.

Might as well get my second fast day out of the way, for this week (especially after a celebratory dinner out last night). Not doing miso soup again, after discovering how much salt I am ingesting with 4 sachets during the day (only 80 cals altogether, but around 3 times the daily amount of salt one should have.)

Made light soup before going to work (no fat, just a few veg) and took some for lunch, with the rest awaiting me for dinner (i.e., I do have my 500 cal on FD, unlike the many brave souls here who manage on a song and prayer; but I am new to this and do not want to end up pushing hard and then giving up).

Hope everyone has a calm and mindful day.

    D16, Melbourne, Australia, NFD
Lunch and dinner today and had some white rice – 1st time in weeks! Will now start 48hr water fast.
Good luck to all with whatever regimen you are on. X

    Day 16 Cornwall UK FD

Coda and actionh thank you for great posts, links etc!! Just what we need to keep going!

Well today is a fast day and I’m hungry just had a coffee and took the dog for a long walk earlier. MIL visit soon. Bone broth ready for lunch. Then pick up grandchildren from school, feed, play, shower them before mum gets home from work. I have my salad made and cottage weighed in a pot. An Orange to finish which I’ll have while they have their supper!
NFD days I really do plan them they are virtually always 16/8 days now. I have no wish for breakfast these days and just oat cakes with hummus some raw veg and soup for lunch. Evenings I have meat with either a large salad or loads of steamed veg. No potatoes or bread. fruit to finish.

Seems to be working so far!!

Good luck to all on a fast day today, stay strong.

Day 16 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

    πŸ™‚

Day 16 Surrey UK NFD Just checking in!

    Day 16 Brisbane, Australia FD
Another successful fast day. Not brave enough to go liquid only & give up my 500 calories, but enjoying the fasting.

    Day 16, Australia FD

    Nov 15 / NFD / NC, USA

Sorry I forgot to post yesterday! I believe I definitely went over TDEE yesterday. I may be throwing in a back to back FD at the end of this week to make up for it. It’s so hard to eat very healthy when we are traveling for work! But I did have the best vegetable burrito I’ve ever had in my life yesterday. Haha! Will post tonight about today!

Day 16…… Florida…….. FD err NFD

Just a quick post…. I forget to set the alarm, so my morning has been cut short. I’m not sure what day it will be. Tonight, is the last night that all us will be home. The husband and youngest are heading up North for the annual hunting and fellowship gathering. Since there is lots to do, the night will be very busy, I’m sure dinner will be a quick one….. I’m just gonna have to see how it plays out.

Yeah for me, I stayed off the scale this morning, not that I didn’t have time. I just wanted to resist doing it.

So, yesterday after saying no three times, my boss asked me about 5:2 again. She asked me a rather odd way….. Do you think your stomachs has shrunk, that’s why you were able to say no yesterday? Umm! Gosh, I don’t know maybe but I wasn’t hungry. So, I saw no need to eat them.
Was the first day hard? Yes! The key is drink a lot of water…..
How long did it last? The fast or the hunger…… She laughed and we went on our day.

I think the thing is she’s curious but a little nervous about giving it a try. I don’t know what to think at this point. I know she’d like to be healthier and thinner, but I’m just going to continue answering questions and see where it goes……

Well, time to run or I’ll never make it out the door in time…..
    cheers

    Day 16 – London, UK – FD

    Day 16 – Cumbria UK – FD

Well I started this fasting period on Monday evening (Day14) after a late light supper (say from 2030hrs) I have been on a low calorie liquid fast since then – Yesterday (Day 15) I did a liquid fast (taking in no more than 150cals) and managed to do a 6miles/9.6km walk on the low fells around where I live in the morning – was a gorgeous sunny day!

Woke up this morning feeling good and strangely not hungry so had my usual cup of tea with a splash skimmed milk and went to a yoga session (1.5hrs). Now enjoying a cup of tea but not feeling hungry so thinking about continuing today with either a 500cal FD or a staying with the liquid fast until tomorrow – I think I will have to see how I feel this evening.
Going to do some volunteer work this afternoon at a club for the elderly – should keep me busy and not thinking about food……

Will report back tomorrow as it is weigh day as well – those last couple of kgs are the hardest and slowest…..I only weigh once a week after my second FD so as not to become too obsessive.

Time for shower and get ready to go out soon

    Day 16 USA (Illinois)

NFD but really need to watch what goes into my mouth. Yesterday I did get to the gym but was able to avoid going out to lunch with the ‘lunch bunch’ of former Curves friends. I had a piece of quiche out to breakfast so didn’t want to eat out the next meal as well. Came home and had some salad instead. I do need to remember when I work-out, protein is necessary in the next few hours.

Lany36 — Russian fudge sounds incredible! I had never heard of it before, but looked up the recipe. I can avoid chocolate, but I can see how this would be a downfall for me too. Caramel, vanilla, butterscotch – those flavors are delish to me.

Okay, enough talk of sweets. Onward and downward!

And Exhale- I know that bloated sheepish feeling when I’ve over indulged against my best interests – but you know what? I think this feeling- the physical symptoms in the body rather than the guilty sheepishness- is a gift. Now when I’m about to ‘go large’ on the latest food opp I connect in with the memory of these physical sensations- bloatedness, queasiness – and my body wins over my greedy mind! We don’t deserve to feel guilty or sheepish – all that does is sometimes make it too difficult to sustain or too easy to give in. I think our mind tricks us into thinking the body wants the treats when it naturally doesn’t! There’s a battle going on and the body is winning this time…finally!!!

    Day 16 : Cheshire, UK : NFD

    Day 16 Portugal NFD
Not having a great week. There are weeks like that. Yesterday’s FD did not go to plan! Today I am just trying to come in under TDEE. Went for a 10k walk this morning, which felt great.

    London | Day 16 | NFD!

So, FD turned into an NFD! Not in a good way either πŸ™
I felt stressed for some unspecified reason, so decided not to fast.
Small piece of Christmas cake (no less!) and tea around 10.30
Chilli con carne with rice! for lunch
Light soup planned for dinner – unless I can skip that altogther.

I’m going to really try and do the 36h liquid starting tonight – anyone welcome to join me. I can do with the inspiration πŸ™‚

@alanix – about bone broth, I bought mine from Coombe Farm organics. I’ve got Ciren2 to thank for that bit of info πŸ™‚
    http://www.coombefarmorganic.co.uk
They’re based in Somerset and deliver frozen to London. They have a Β£20 minimum order policy – so I ordered some organic bones to make my own batch.

Lilymartin – I admire your resolution πŸ™‚ it’s very inspiring.

Only managed to skim read the thread. Hope I didn’t miss any major points/questions. Looks like everyone is doing well.
    Have a good day all!

@Pissuposa I’m doing liquid only for 36 hours from tonight. Lets go for it!

    Day 16/NFD/Georgia
Struggling is all I can say!! I think I have cabin fever since my husbands surgery… I need to take advantage of my patio this week because I’ve been stressing about my wrists being in pain doing everything and my braces restricts me …

    Day 16 – Canada – NFD

I started my morning off planning everything I’m going to eat today (MFP) and I am well within my TDEE. It’s so much easier when you know exactly what your next meal is going to be.

I have just spent the last half hour reading through all the posts. They will keep me inspired throughout the day.

Coda: Re: your second post on November 15 – What a great peptalk. Something we all need to hear now and again. I know I did.

Action hero: I love your daily quotes. I will certainly join you in a 21 day December challenge if you decide to lead it.

Bert 1802: perhaps the reason she is afraid to try 5:2 WOL is because she may not be up for the challenge. It will just be easier for her to question what you are doing.

    Have a good day everyone.

US SC Day 16 FD. Looking forward to a successful FD today.

    Day 16 – Los Angeles – FD

    Hi All,

Checking in in the morning so I don’t forget. Will need to make a large Vegi soup today as I’m all out. The funny part is that my kids all clamor to eat my soup. It’s hilarious since I want to eat their dinner. The soup is always greener on the other side I guess.

I’ve been really enjoying the myfitnesspal app on my phone. I use it to track my calories and then treat myself at night to a treat if I stayed under my calorie goal. Knowing that I will get a fiber one bar with a coffee at night is worth A LOT.

    Good luck to everyone.

    Day 16- North Carolina-NFD

Wow, I am hungry on fast days, had one yesterday, woke up at night hungry. Happy that i did not give in.

2 weeks for me today, down 7lbs, I ate a lot the day before I started to a little inflated.

Day 16, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Fasting

Everything is going great, hope the same for each of you.

Tomorrow is weigh in day, hoping to be 145 or so.

Just want to hold steady and not worry about it, what a concept, huh?

    Second post

    Sara57 – you’re on. Let’s do it! Thanks for joining me πŸ™‚

Day 16: Gloucestershire, UK: FAST-DAY…or else!
Recently got home from work…nothing since porridge for early breakfast at 5.15am….now is the danger-time (5pm). Feeling strong.
    Bone broth; someone asked.
The last two “fast-days” I had one pouch (from Coombe Farm Organics) which is a good mugful. It’s thin, so I doubt it has many calories at all. However, I’m giving it a miss this time…I’m not a great fan of meaty tastes. Sticking with the water. Very good though, if you like that sort of thing.
    December Challenge;
Are we not doing the whole 30 days then? Obviously Christmas Day etc would likely be non-fast days….but shouldn’t we still check in throughout the month, however briefly?
