  • Rocy65 that is ok you can still count as a fast day even with a small meal. You don’t have to do a liquid only. Just keep to your quarter tdee or 500 cals if it comes to that. You are still with us

Day 11 USA (Illinois – Happy Veteran’s Day)

NFD – hanging in there with maintenance. I’m finding eating a healthy breakfast of eggs, meat, etc. with no or few carbs then apple for lunch is working. Then my supper is normal. As much as I HATE counting calories, it will keep me under TDEE as long as I am careful.

Best wishes to all of you who are doing your group SUPER FD today! I am with you in spirit!

    Onward and downward!

    Day 11 – London, UK – FD

Had a bit of a blow out yesterday, so I’m sneaking in an extra cheeky fast day to compensate.

I’ve only been doing this for a couple of weeks, and I’ve already got that reassuring feeling that being hungry is only temporary and that I can control when I eat, and if I eat. I find this all very interesting as someone who loves his food and never missed a meal before, only using hard exercise as a means to control weight.

    London | Day 11 | FD – 36h liquid fast

So far so good. Every time I feel a little hungry I sip water. Had a strong black coffee at breakfast time and beef bullion around lunchtime. I’ve felt fine so far.

Ciren2 – what a sweet thing to do, carrying the names around πŸ™‚
Thank you all for the good vibes/thoughts.
Wishing good strength to us all – fasting and non-fasting.

Second post, just before I leave…@Coda, thanks yes, so simple! I will try that in the evenings as well as remembering the 12…who are now 13! A baker’s dozen. @ciren2, what a good idea, to have all the names with you, I am also going to do that!

Looked at half a croissant earlier, and then thought about all of you and walked away…see? It works!

BiddyV – I love learning new words, especially Aussie ones for a WordsWithFriends friend who told me about this diet! Now I can use the word “sooky” there:

“sooky. Adjective. (comparative sookier or more sooky, superlative sookiest or most sooky) (Australia, Newfoundland, New Zealand, slang) Complaining, whingeing, sad; jealous. (Australia, New Zealand, slang) Sentimental, sissy; timid.”

    (got that from yourdictionary.com)

In It To Thin It – what a terrific quote!

    Mazzie10 – I completely agree about FD’s – they are energizing indeed

    Day 11 London UK NFD

having a few days off, will see the damage caused on Monday.

    Day 11 Dublin FD

Greetings all. Well done to everyone for the weight losses so far and for everyone keeping up the good fight! Also good luck to the brave fasters today.

Leonard Cohen’s passing is a very painful time for Canadians for so many reasons and on so many levels. His poetry formed the foundation of my youth and family life and for so many people around the world. May he rest in peace.

    2nd post
Still hanging in there… Now is when fasting gets difficult for me as kids come in from school, want snacks and then I need to make dinner! Hopefully I will manage and @coda I may just try some soup or similar instead of taking a smaller portion of what rest of family has ( I think that is why I go over the 500 cal on FD as I perhaps take too much and don’t make something specifically low in calories.)

Hope the FD is going well for the other 12. This mini challenge is certainly keeping me focused!

    Day 11 NFD London

Feeling good but tired today, still struggled to sleep yesterday even though I was already tired.

Today trying to be good and have been so far, but going out to dinner later. So will need to ensure I have a huge blowout! Arrgghhhh….

Day 11. Florida USA NFD. Out to lunch and an afternoon of mah jong – so I decided I would have a slice of toast with a cup of coffee at 8:30am . My sister called just about then and chatting with her I got off the phone and couldn’t remember if I had eaten the toast or not! Needless to say I had and it just goes to show what mindless eating is all about. I had a second one didn’t need it really didn’t want it but I didn’t remember enjoying it the first time. Why??? Busy weekend with over night guests do I am aready looking forward to my Monday Tuesday back-to-back best days. Stay strong everyone.

    Bert. 1802
. Your comment on Florida having cold days really got me to chuckling. Not sure where you where are in Florida I am in sunny South Florida so when we get to about 62 – 63 degrees I have to fall on the floor because the natives are all in gloves earmuffs scarves and on occasion puffy jackets!! I guess it’s all relative as to what cold is. I grew up in New York City and that to me was very cold but to someone growing up in south Florida 62 64 degrees is very cold.

    2nd post today

I started to read the posts on here to keep me positive and focused – doing 2nd FD in a row and struggling atm – in need of inspiration.

Reading all your posts has helped me regain my focus as to why I’m doing this – I have saved 370cals out of my 500cals for my evening meal so will get there

Will report tomorrow when I break my fast – Brunch booked with some friends to look forward to…..

Day 11, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Non-Fasting

Hello all, gorgeous day here, light frost overnight but sunny and warm today. Had a fun day shopping, had my chili and Jr. Frostee at Wendy’s, bought some new tights to wear with boots and short skirts (no, not THAT short) – even an eggplant colored pair that I love! Managed to get back into my exercise routine so that felt great.

Still going to church each night so the eating has been very light, weight staying exactly on track.

Hope everybody has a great day !

Richard67 great post! Wise words there. I have written down a few sentences to view later when cravings hit.

HollyLJ and Erika45: I promise you ARE both on my list! When I wrote it and submitted earlier, the names at the end of the line got cut off…sorry, I hadn’t noticed.
I have you all in my pocket on paper to keep focussed. Hope everyone is doing ok.
    Rocy65: If it’s less than 500 cals…it counts, ok?
I have a bone-broth portion in the fridge to have later, if I get desperate.

    Day 11 – UK – NFD

Meant to do a FD today and then my husband said it was such a nice day we would go out to lunch. So I had my breakfast before I remembered that we had an appointment and couldn’t go out – so will have to do it tomorrow.

In It to Thin It – absolutely love that – I’m putting it on a note on my computer!

    Day 11 USA NFD

Yay, good FD yesterday. Scale down a bit this morning.

Have been invited to a Mexican-American friend’s home for a homemade breakfast. Will enjoy & will guesstimate calories.

    Thank you to all veterans!

@erika – what about a smaller plate and still eat what the rest of the family are having if suitable? I am quite hungry so will be having my bone broth when I go home with some chilli flakes sprinkled in it to give it a bit of a kick. I’ve to make shortbread for number 2 son who is 30 today – shortbread is his favourite – I can have tomorrow!

    Day 11, NYC, NFD

I am kind of down about it all this week. I have done two fast days this week and I have remained the same and up 2lbs from the week before. I will stick with it but i kind of feel like it is impossible for me to lose weight. Wondering if this will work for me in the long run.

I am just hovering up and down this same weight that I don’t want to be.

To be honest I do feel as if I ‘Look” better…so maybe i should just stop with the weighing myself for a few weeks.

    Day 11 : UK : NFD

Just to add to my previous post.

I thought I would add my measurements to my tracker and I actually have lost an inch from my hips and and inch from my waist! Weird. Since my weight has gone up. I’ll take it however!

Day 10 and 11 – Aust – two not good fast days

Both started off well, both ended up with overeating in the evening. Sigh.
On the plus side, I only ate the processed stuff on day 10, and overrate nuts and berries on day 11.
(I sound like I’m foraging! No.)

the next couple of days are going to be pretty stressful, so I’ll concentrate on being nice to myself, relaxing, and focussing πŸ™‚

Managed fine but this afternoon argued with my partner and if I don’t have any dinner it will look like I’m being childish and mardy ( my version of sooky!)
I’m going to plate up a small portion so I will still be on track for my FD, but so we can also get back onto speaking terms! Wanted to try liquid only but, that can wait another day.
Ciren2 I love the idea of you carrying us round in your pocket all day. I shall try that one.

    2nd post

HI Friday Fasting buddies and everyone else fasting or not.

Tricky and emotional day work wise. A benefit though is that I have not been hungry all day! About to have a mug of veg boillion. It is liquid only for me but that doesn’t extend to wine. Looking forward to breakfast!

    Stay strong!

    Day 11– Colorado, USA– FD
(an extra fast day this week for me as joined in the Friday group)

Going quite well so far. Feeling chilled right now, so put on a hoodie. Am heating up some homemade bone broth to calm the tummy grumbles. Enjoying the so-far successful day!!

(now I’ll go back & catch up on all the Motivational pep talks you wonderful people have taken the time to add to this thread. Many thanks to the group for keeping this excitement going.)

In it to thin it….. I loved your Inspirational quote on weightloss:

β€œIt is a slow process. Don’t make it slower by quitting”

Got a chuckle & also a boost from it. Thanks!

    Day 11 UK FD

Part of the 36 hour challenge too Thurs PM to Saturday Am, and going well, it’s the home stretch now! Just got in from the gym and feeling very good with myself, hope it lasts the evening. I have a plan, Gonna have a bath, pamper myself then watch a film, then bed. Housework always Saturday AM then it should be time to eat. Going to a coffee shop with friends so might treat myself to a lovely slice of pie or cake to break the fast.

Good luck other 36 hour challengers and all others on this group.

    X 😘

    Day 12 NFD NZ
About to head out for an hours walk with a friend.

    Day 11; Toronto; NFD

Enjoyed a tofu and broccoli stir fry with steamed rice for lunch. Delicious food, and it was nice to have it with my DH who had the day off.

At 11 am, was on a walk with a friend in the off leash dog park, and we stopped to observe a minute of silence for Remembrance Day. There were four B-52 bombers flying overhead – I guess part of a ceremony in the area – and gosh, they were loud. It made me think about the people who lived through the wars. Thinking today about my parents who served in WWII and all veterans who have served and in many cases, sacrificed their lives.

Fellows fasters just checking in – shortbread made and hubby was my tester. Bone broth was lovely so on the home straight now but looking forward to my treats tomorrow. My son has gone to watch Northern Ireland play football (soccer) and as he didnt want a party we are going out for a meal tomorrow evening. He also brought delicious looking buns home he was given I am ignoring their call but I may have to sample them tomorrow as well.

    D12, Melbourne Australia, FD

Sorry Coda – I got my days wrong for the group 36hr fast so while you will finish on Sat, I will go through to Sun. Good luck to Fab 12, youre nearly done!

Congrats to all those who have made it through 36 and 48 hr fasts – you’ve come a long way – none of us could have imagined doing that when we set out on this WOL. I’m through a few of those now and they certainly take some mental strength and long term habit breaking to get through.

And for all those doing other fasting of shorter durations – keep it up and keep going – we all learn to walk before we run and great if you can get the results you want with your chosen fast regimens. It’s like we’re all on the same bus and we get on and off at different ‘stops’ but we all ride together at some point on our journey!

Coda, you’ve done well to resist your own shortbread.

    36h fast | second post

Coda – Impressive will power to resist tasting your own baking. Well done! πŸ™‚
I went into the local supermarket to stock up on a few things – managed to get out with only what I intended to buy – eggs, bacon, fruit (apples, satsumas, grape) and milk. Guess what I’ll be breaking fast with tomorrow, lol.
Had some redbush tea and chewed gum since getting home + lots of water.

Bit of a struggle since I got home – stress is making me crave food (anything!). Hubby is going through some tough times right now and it’s affecting both of us. I’m really trying to keep my sanity. Fasting in the last 6 months has helped me keep away from snacking on anything and everything like I used to. I crave less now. Otherwise I’d have gone out of control!
    Rant over πŸ™‚

Thank you all for the encouragement. The combined strength is amazing isn’t it?

    Day 11 | NFD | Bucks UK

Busy day dropping my daughter to and from school choir rehearsals for the Remembrance Service, quick rest then back out for actual service.
Realised that normally on days on the go like this I would grab anything to eat without much thought and today I haven’t which is great.

Weighed in this morning, no extra loss after yesterday’s FD but no gain either making this week’s loss = 1lb and I’m good with that and also 1 inch off my waist… kool!

Have a good weekend fasters and non-fasters… nuff love x 😊

Yay…made it through today … Definitely well under 500cal, more like 300 I’d say. Had a bowl of porridge (which I love) while rest of family tucked into spag carbonara. Out this evening but just had a small handful of popcorn. @coda not sure I could have resisted shortbread…one of my favorites.
About to go to bed. Looking forward to NFD tomorrow. Well done all Friday fasters.

    Day 12 – Melbourne Aus – NFD

Have to be careful tonight and tomorrow as going out for a party at my daughter’s tonight and out to lunch with a group of people tomorrow. Not sure how to approach it – I thought maybe I will skip lunch today and eat as little as possible at the party – perhaps have a HB egg before I go. Hopefully tomorrow there will be suitable grilled fish and salad option – fingers crossed. Will put the results here tomorrow night.

Great Weekend with relaxing and fun and whatever you enjoy all!

    Day 12 FD
yesterday was definitely not a FD though I had hoped I might crack it. Stayed at home and cooked for family and had guests to dinner. Thought I was OK for a NFD since the siren song of food made sure it wasn’t go to be a FD.
Calorie counting is not my forte but I’m doing it for this week – thinking of you SongBIrdMe doing the same. I can see why I put on weight. I have under-guesstimated my calories BIG time.
Did the calc’s with a calorie counter, wrote every morsel down and have managed to put 2569 calories down my throat – perhaps I should just super glue my lips together! I was in shock. I honestly thought that my NFD’s were on track for 1500 – 1600 for my TDEE. The confounding thing – for me- is that this is made up of 2 pieces fruit, chicken, salad, popcorn ( plain nothing on it) , nuts etc so nothing not really unhealthy, just way way too big serves. I really got the munchies so had black tea, blackcurrant tea, water by the many glassful, and still 1000 calories over.
So now as well as being accountable on this site I am writing everything down and calorie counting.
Anyway, the scale gods have smiled on me – scales exactly the same as yesterday so I think there must be a lag somewhere and expect a rise sometime.
Lael – well done on handling your situation so well.
AT thinking of you and willing you over the line.
Mazzie 10 – measurements are often a more accurate indicator than the scales so well done.
Thinking of the 13 champion challengers, what a great achievement.
Vale Leonard Cohen – brilliant poet and lyricist.
    Happy fasting and eating.

Day 12 Melbourne Australia at present NFD: Sorry I missed yesterday, B2tf. It too was an NFD. In fact, I find I’m unable to do fasts as this morning my sister and brother-in-law and niece took me to breakfast at 1001 nights to have the Turkish breakfast, an experience they felt I shouldn’t miss. It was lovely but my body feels very sluggish from all the sitting, eating and wine from the past few days. This is the me of 20 kgs ago. There are lots of lovely inspiring posts that I’ve caught up on today. Lots of humour and plenty of good reasons to get back on track. But those we love and who love us want to show it by wining and dining us. 5 more days of that and will fast when we set out for Queensland again, probably up the Newell highway. My Kiwi friend who is travelling with me hasn’t seen any of this part of the country before, so it is lovely having the opportunity to show it to her. Good luck to all of the fasters and those on 5:2.

    Day 12 NFD, Canada

Enjoying my food today. Have a very busy day planned tomorrow so will try to get a fast day in,for 3 this week.

Good luck to the group of 13 fasters today, you are almost done.

    Day 11….. Florida….. FD
@ it’s my turn……. it was a brisk 45 degrees in my neck of the woods, I’m about an hour north of Tampa. I’ve been here nearly 10 years now, grew up in NY, not in city but the suburbs in a little town, home of the Bills and the Sabres. You guessed it Buffalo, NY. Now, I know cold! No one knows cold until they feel the wind coming off of Lake Erie…. lol. But, in all honesty, I’m always cold…. I do love a beautiful warm 95 degree day… and most people who don’t know me always comment, Boy, you are really over dressed for this kind of weather! Only reached 80 degrees here today and I wore a sweater all day!
But it’s my turn, I am still tried and true New Yorker, sarcastic, blunt and have heart a gold! Okay well that might be because I’m Italian too.

    Have a great night!
    Michelle

    Nov 11 – FD – NC, USA

4th FD in the books since Nov 1! A little later than usual this week because of the employee incident on Monday. Didn’t wanna have to explain myself, so I waited until today since I had a half day and wouldn’t be eating around them. My next FD WILL be Sunday for the same reason!

My meal today was just dinner. I had a jalapeΓ±o cheddar bagel (220) with 2 scrambled eggs (140) and some brussel sprouts (~50), so definitely nder my 500 cals! It wasn’t too difficult because I’ve been busy all day. Went to the gym and did a 2 mile run plus arm and shoulder workouts!

I definitely agree about watching the snacking. Its crazy how much we eat without even realizing it! Looking forward to Sunday!! If it’s anything like today it’ll be breezy! Good luck all!

    Day 11 E. Canada NFD

Oi, what a roller coaster of a week. Sorry back2tf, I am once again scrambling to catch up.

Day 9 NFD- today I went for a bike ride with a friend. Everyone on the trail was discussing the US election. Well, for better or worse, it is done.

Bfast 200, C. Latte 150, c latte and cookie (no!) 450, st 800, some nuts, 100, no room for supper, not the best day, st 900, something else 100, st. 1000

Day 10 FD – should have taken time for bike ride, but worked instead. Breakfast 200, lunch a c. latte 150, st 350, coffee and timbit 80, fair bit of chicken 300, small spud with butter 80, salad with dressing 50, st 860 okay, what happened to fast? then 1 piece chocolate 40 st 900, oh well, at least under the tdee.

Day 11 NFD – Well, so long Leonard.

“…Ring the bells that still can ring / Forget your perfect offering / There is a crack in everything / That’s how the light gets in.…”

And that, folks, about sums it up. Forget your perfect offering, just keep at it.

weigh-in day. Again the scales all over the place, we’ll say 126.5. So I’m closing in on my goal, maybe I’ll reach it by 1 December, we’ll try.

    Today a bike ride, good for me. 3/4 of a bagel, 225, then 2/3 a veggie wrap 210, st 435, c. latte 165 st 600, coffee and timbit 80, bit of chicken 100, salad 50, 1 square chocolate 40 st 870 other 30 st 900.

I have only 3 weeks, tops, of bike weather left. This will make it a challenge to keep losing, but we shall see.

second post in honour of Leonard Cohen

DAY 12 WELLINGTON NEW ZEALAND NFD

Inspiration for Today (one of my favorites)

β€œDon’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” ~Mark Victor Hansen

To all our Irish Rugby fans on here, what have you guys been taking lately, will you please stop beating our NZ Rugby teams, we are not used to it !!!

MOTH54: Thanks for the Tribute above to the Great Man.

Today (Saturday here in Godz Own) I have been saving myself for a night out with our monthly dinner group, we are dining New Orleans Cajun style and seemingly the Ribs are to die for so I can feel at least 2 x B2B FD’s coming on next week πŸ™‚

Take care everyone and be strong (like me tonight)

Day 11: Pacific NW USA, FD with my forum pals!!! I was mentally with you all during our FD but was out of cell service range and so not with you all digitally!

Fellow fasters – I feel so glad to have you influencing my life in such a positive way!! Some people take energy, others give and we are so fortunate to have such givers on this forum!

Ciren – I was happy being in your pocket all day and I didn’t even know it until I just returned home to the internet. Knowing we had a group effort going on though helped me stick to my plan.

The day off work Friday for Vererans Day threw me off my calendar! OH and I had made plans to go over night with friends this weekend to hike and see fall colors but when I got home from work Thursday and OH had the car packed I tumbled to my miscalculation. All I had in my mind for Friday was a 36 hour fast and didn’t keep it straight that it was also a short work week Except for the fact that we had an unusually late after dinner noshing that lasted till midnight after we arrived Thursday night I decided I could still keep to my Fantastic Friday FD group plan!

I even felt like I had left-over energy after the all day hilly up and down trail today. In fact I can say I may even have had more energy than the others. We packed our own food and I brought grass-fed beef jerky, celery sticks coffee and water but I wasn’t hungry! Physical activity and fasting did seem to combine well for me and described by Dr. Fung in the link that Pissupoussa gave us (thanks!) Prior to 5:2 I would never have believed it or conceived you could have energy and not eat at all day!

Because I ate so late Thursday my 36 hour fast will last until lunch on Saturday instead of breakfast. Thank you flexible 5:2!

Action – I think TTFTD idea is great. Thanks for starting and in it to thin it adding on.

HollyLJ and others who had a holiday and FD also fall on the same day – I think it can actually free you up to enjoy where you are and the people you’re with rather than dealing with layers of food you wouldn’t normally eat. Of course, 5:2 is ultimately flexible so last night I decided to enjoy the home made chicken pΓ’tΓ©, pickled veggies and cheese instead of starting my fast right after dinner.

AT – you asked about a b2b fast. I hope I didn’t add any confusion but that’s where you have two consequitive FD’s totaling 48 or more hours. Is that what you’re trying?

NorrieB – Dr Fung talks about how much we get tied into our associated eating with certain events just because it’s a pattern we repeated and it became a habit. He gives ideas about making new habits. For instance OH and I have a walk we take that used to always end in a mocha, hot or iced depending on the weather. When we head out I still notice my mind start thinking about that sugary-sweet drink even though I don’t eat anything with sugar and haven’t for 7 months. After reading Fung’s new book I realized I needed a replacement for that old habit so we tried a Vietnamese pho soup cart and a book store instead. It hasn’t totally erased the memory of creamy mochas but maybe it will take 21 days to make a new habit like Action says.

Coda – of course right now I can actually believe I’m smelling shortbread cooking, glad you gave us the mental picture of your resistance!

Lilymartin – I think you are on to something, at least if we know how many calories there are in what we’re eating it’s our choice to decide to eat it or not rather than be ignorant or fooling ourselves.

Sorry for the extra long posting tonight. This is what happens when I go without eating or being able to log on and catch up with all of you for 36 hours!

I thank my Dad who was a veteran and other Dad’s for the freedoms we enjoy.

Day 12 / Tweed Coast Australia / FD

Thank you lilymartin for the acknowledgement. I’m finding 5:2 helped me clear the physical baggage (extra weight) and now I’m in maintenance the mental clarity I’m gaining is enabling me to shed my emotional baggage too!

I’ve been running at a sleep deficit over the past couple of weeks, staying up late to work on class assignments and then even when I’m not, I’ve kind of gotten into that habit, which isn’t good. So today’s FD is a bit more difficult, though I know exactly why! More self care is my way forward! …Such as actually going to sleep when tired!

    Day 12 UK NFD

Weigh in today shows 2lb loss for last week. An early weigh in as I want a cup of tea and don’t want it show on the scales! 5lb loss since the start of this challenge. Very pleased with that and sure it is due to better carb control. I am still expecting a week or two of consolidation quite soon.

Hope the rest of the fasting group made it through ok and anyone else who was fasting too. Thanks for the motivational help this week!

    Have a great Saturday everyone!

Second post! Debbie Q, I just saw your comment to me from a couple days ago. I appreciate your feedback! I keep being surprised that I’m feeling ‘lighter’ on other levels than just the physical, thanks to 5:2!

Day 12 | Derbyshire UK | NFD Congratulations Sarah57. A great reduction in only two weeks.πŸ™‚πŸ‘
