  • Day 10….. Florida……NFD

Well…. We made it to double digits!

@helsbelsjoe…… I think your doing just fine. I fast daily from 7pm until the next day at 1pm, then eat based on what day it is…. FD 500 c and NFD…. I try like the dickens to eat to my TDEE but normally, I’m right around 1200c.

@fattymessi….. I get like that at times. Last night, I finally slept well, the first time in I’d say about a week, but I figured out that I was cold. Try adding an extra blanket; hopefully that will do the trick for you too.

I feel very good this morning, had a great night sleep. Was having the awesome dream, that I was being snuggled and light kisses on my shoulder. I slowly came out of my slumber to only realize it was my husband, but he was holding me so tight that the only thing I could move was my toes…. lol! His defense… he said that he woke to me thrashing about and kicking the foot board…. I think it so odd…. because it’s the first time in weeks I feel like I really slept.
I guess…. I’m going have to figure out what the heck is messing with me……

Today, is a NFD…… an extra cup of coffee for me this morning! Yeah! Maybe, I’ll even have that piece of chocolate that I’ve been saving! In an odd turn of events, I’ve been craving a nice piece of sponge candy! I can’t get it where I live but where I’m from it’s a holiday staple…. The husband and the kids leave for home in a week, for the annual boys week at the cabin,( it’s the start of hunting season, and each year all the men in my husband family from all over the world come together for hunting and fellowship. This year is extra special, he have a nephew who is now old enough and a cousin coming from Asia). Maybe I can get him to bring some back with him!

Well… I must be off… the work bell will be ring soon.
    Cheers!
    Michelle

    Day 10 – UK – NFD

Was going to have FD today but was not in the mood and had not cooked – will cook for it today so that I don’t have to endure the smell of food cooking when I am hungry.

Day 10, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Non-Fasting

Today is weigh in day – 144 pounds. Exactly where I want to be, although my body is smaller at this weight than it was in the past as I put on a very pretty suit to wear to church last night and the skirt was too big. It was really too late to start getting dressed all over again so I wore it but probably won’t wear it again.

Off to a shopping/eating day with friends, looking forward to it.

Enjoy your day all, whatever you have planned.

    Day 10 US SC FD

I am going to try for a back to back FD (yesterday and today)… we’ll see how it goes. I’ve had a cup of coffee with half and half and don’t normally do that on a FD as I don’t like to “drink” my calories. If I don’t manage today I’ll just do tomorrow instead.

Lael… good for you. I think there are probably a lot of us who would benefit from doing what you did.
CanadianinDublin… ahhh very familiar with the area you’re in. Was over there last month and had lunch in Trinity .. followed by a lovely walk up Grafton Street stopping to listen to the buskers along the way. I miss that kind of stuff. I’m from the suburbs on the south side. My mother is still in the Terenure area and I have a few brothers around Dun Laoghaire and Firhouse areas and a sister in Meath.

    D10, Melbourne, Australia, FD
FD yesterday then decided not to have dinner to make it a 36 fast. Went to bed hungry but I think that just made me sleepy and slept well. Did awake a bit earlier than usual after having some odd, unusual dreams. Also woke hungry but didn’t get up to eat as I also had a headache. By the time I got out of bed my appetite settled so decided to keep going with the fast. Got busy with work and apart from a couple of times when hunger came back ( which settled reasonably quickly) felt quite comfortable to continue with the fast. Late afternoon was really looking forward to dinner but ended up doing 48hr fast. Felt very satisfied to have made it that long and didn’t bother to count calories at dinner but still didn’t feel like binging and kept dinner low carb ( marinated chicken wings and parmesan crisps). Tested wee and was in ketosis (yay! burning fat stores). Weight down 900gm today (weighed in morning after 36hr fast). Possibly some water weight but hopefully I’ve broken through a plateau of the last few weeks.

Day 10 Surrey UK NFD Would you all mind if I joined the group fast from tonight through to Saturday morning? It will be the first time that I REALLY try, and it might be easier knowing there are others doing it together..I will be away from tomorrow afternoon through to Sunday afternoon for a Study weekend in Oxfordshire, and I think being away from home will make it easier and also because the emphasis will be on study and not entertainment. Also knowing that I will be answerable to a group dedicated to this mini-challenge will help.
I will post tomorrow just before leaving and will only be able to post again on Sunday.
    Hope everyone is doing well!

    Day 10 Brisbane Australis NFD
Good day but worried about tomorrow, I have to go to work Christmas function & scared I will undo all the good work I have been doing. Time to put my big girl pants on & decide I can go to a Christmas function, not drink lots of alcohol, not eat all the bad food, but still go, have a good time & choose to eat & drink in moderation.

Hi All day 10 nfd UK

Ciren did you count yourself in as I made it 11 joining our mini challenge, with it now up to 12 with NorrieB – remember we all cross the finish line – unless absolutely no choice off course no one gives up so we all may have to dig deep at some point. Challenges are what makes life interesting, overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. I hope you are visualising and planning – if you can do liquid only fine but if you want to have your quarter tdee then that is also fine, it is up to you but plan now, what you intend to do so you have it in your mind. What plan have you if temptation raises its head, a run up the stairs a few times, a walk, go to bed (but it is only 7 o’clock in the evening lol) have a bath, listen to some soothing music or just close your eyes and picture us all together holding hands and completing this mini challenge. Picture the way you will feel at being able to post you have crossed the finish line. We can do it! You can do it! If you can dream it, you can achieve it!

Miesque – keep in mind you can eat any of the things you desire but just not today. Much better than saying I can’t have – you can have, just not at that moment. You are having what Jason Vale describes as a mental tantrum – we are cross because we can’t have what we actually don’t really want. Crazy or what!

Something to ponder – I saw this quote – wanting the benefit of change is not the same as wanting to change!

Way to go B2TF – well done!!

Helsbelsjoe – If I understand it you have done a 48 hour fast. If you last eat breakfast 7 am yesterday and don’t eat until breakfast tomorrow 7 am missing out lunch yesterday, dinner yesterday, breakfast, lunch and dinner today and breaking your fast tomorrow.

Action – glad to have you back with your words of wisdom and not afraid to shoot from the hip (but said in a nice way lol)

Well done to everyone – give yourselves a pat on the back!

NYC, Day 10, FD….120.9 … up a bit, post election stress (as if pre-election stress wasn’t bad enough).

Tough workout last night, massage tonight!

Countdown to the 19th when both boys are home.

    Day 10 – Georgia, US – NFD

    Day 10 USA (Illinois)

NFD today. Scale was good this morning bringing me back to my 160 maintenance weight. Pretty easy FD yesterday. Apple and nuts mid-day then had some leftover Italian stew that got thinned drastically with bone broth. At praise team practice in the evening, I was able to say no to homemade cookies. Yeah for me.

Colder weather though gives me such shivers and cold especially on FD’s. I need to dig out more warm clothes and wraps for when I am home. I do love my rice warmers. Also a good cup of hot tea does help.

    Onward and downward all!

    Day 10 | Ohio, USA | FD

Feeling quite down. Anyway, yesterday was a failed FD. A healthy day but I ended up eating regular dinner with family. Today will be FD. Out all day and evening so that will help. Thanks all.

    Day 10 | Second post.

Thanks for the guidance coda – really appreciate your keeping us all in the straight and narrow 🙂
I’ll post my plan tonight. I think I’m going to keep beef bullion as a back up to keep me going for 36 hours. Ciren did your bone broth arrive?

    Day 10– Colorado, USA– FD

Well, it’s actually supposed to be NFD, but getting ideas from this tough, positive crew here….
I’m feeling up to Challenging myself to MY FIRST 2-DAY B2B FAST!

I’m kind of excited to give it a go!
For extra motivation, on top of reading posts on here to keep me going, I’ve just down-loaded Dr. Jason Fung’s “Complete Guide to Fasting” on Kindle.

All the ammunition I need to succeed! Got Team! 🙂

Day 10. Florida USA. NFD. Came off a 64 hour fast Back to back. – dinner on Sunday to brunch on Wednesday feeling very good and strong had a quiet afternoon running around with errands. My husband felt like Mexican food for dinner – well after 2 margaritas and too many chips I ate half my dinner and am really annoyed with myself – didn’t need the second margarita needless to say but it did taste good – came home fell fast asleep in the chair because the alcohol hit me so much harder when I’ve been fasting. I have learned from the day – if nothing else .
I just sat for the last hour reading posts and so impressed with this group between everyone we seem to cover all problems and with everyone’s help come up with answers. Learn something about yourself everyday. – we are smart capable people and can do this. Have a good one.

Oops…sorry HollyLJ…you are also on the Friday fast (didn’t spot you til’ now) and now NorrieB too.
Coda: yes, I make that 12 too, so easy to miss people, I need to perfect my speed-reading!

    Day 10,FD, Canada

Well done Lael, too many times I have eaten my feelings rather than go through the discomfort of feeling them. I think that was a very healthy response to leave before causing a scene. Now find a healthy outlet for those feelings- journalling, discussing with a close friend, or even a meeting with the concerned party to talk it out once the heat of the moment has cooled a bit.

Greatlakes, I’m fasting along with you today. We can do this!!

    Day 10, Georgia, NFD

    Day 10; Toronto; FD

Starting the day with my usual FD menu: a small banana (5″-6″) with a small handful (1/2 oz) of seeds (pumpkin) = 200 calories
Lunch will be 3 cups of vegetable broth = 40 calories
Dinner will be another 2 cups of vegetable broth, plus vegetables, and a 1/2 cup of beans = 250 calories
    Total = 490 calories
If I’m still hungry after dinner, I’ll eat 1 small apple, which puts me over 500 by about 60 calories, but there you go.

I woke up with hunger pangs, which is a good thing. I didn’t eat much last night. That’s how I’ve gained all this weight, eating at night, sometimes right up until midnight – 2 am, just before going to bed. Ugh. Doing my best to put a stop to that and develop new, healthier habits.

Wishing everyone a great day, FD or NFD!

DebbieQ- wow, that’s great, I know both of these places you’re from in Dublin. Glad you get a chance to come back for visits!

Day 10 SW WA USA, FD

Feeling good. Loving the brighter, mild November we’re experiencing.

I’ve seen some refer to 16:8. What does that entail?

    Day 10|FD| Toronto
Less than wonderful NFD yesterday; my comfort food of choice, homemade popcorn with an Olive Oil and Butter mix, called my name loudly and repeatedly as I zoned out on Netflix!

Pissupoosa: Yes, I’ve got my bone broth. I have one thawed out in the fridge for our 36-hour challenge. I ‘ve finished eating today now till Saturday. Go TEAM!

    Day 10 – Cumbria UK – FD

Started the day with a 1hr Aerobic class with a bunch of lovely women who always have a laugh – home for a quick shower then attended a book launch and looking forward to reading the book soon. Lovely coffee with the other half at our favourite cafe – he had a huge piece of cake which I looked at longingly but did not fall off the FD path.

Training afternoon today so that kept my mind busy and away from food – I have planned a lovely big bowl of chicken soup for dinner tonight with enough calories for a banana after if I am still hungry.

@coda or @ciren2 – I would like to know more about the back to back FD having never tried that myself. Are you still allowed your 500 calories each day or is it a calorie free period of time? Also is it best to start fasting after your evening meal on a NFD? Any information or advice on how to tackle this for the first time would be appreciated – in anticipation thank you for anyone’s feedback.

I am thinking of adding in a 3rd FD on Saturday for this week depending on what the scales say tomorrow morning after my 2nd FD for the week today – fingers crossed I have dropped some weight from my last weigh day

Hope everyone has/had a good NFD or FD depending on where you are in the world

    Day 9 & 10 : UK : NFD

Sorry forgot to post yesterday as was very busy.

Hi AnneMarilyn– when people talk about 16:8 they’re referring to a period of time (in hours) of fasting vs. eating.

16:8 = sixteen hours of fasting, followed by an eight hour window for eating your appropriate number of calories.

For example: a person would eat an early lunch at 11:00 AM, then a dinner at 7:00 PM. Then Fast for 16 hours from 7 PM till 11 AM the next day.

    Hope this helps!

Day 10| FD | Bucks UK

Busy day at work, remembered to keep drinking and no time feel hungry.
Now home wrapped up under my blanket. Will have spicy chicken with carrott and swede mash later.

Nuff love guys all over the world x

AT: I’ve never yet tried back-to-back fast days (I’d like to one day). I’d say it’s 48 hours altogether, with or without your 500cal allowance each day. No non-fast days between. Start when you like, maybe the evening before, but make it 48 hours altogether.
So far I’ve gone for the (lesser) 36-hour fast, starting the evening before and finishing with breakfast the day after a full fast day. You would need to continue until the evening.
    Hope this helps.

2nd post well that is me now until Saturday sometime. Homemade stew and small slice of fruit loaf completes my nfd.

AT – you can do whatever suits liquid only or your quarter tdee but it’s not a back to back fast as Ciren says you would need to carry on until the evening of the Saturday.

Who did I see use the F word?

Off to get my hair done!

Day 10: Pacific NW USA, NFD

There have been questions about different fasting plans. They are basically just described by adding up the amount of hours not eating. You have to experiment with when and how much you eat to see what gives you the balance and results you want. Adding to what others have said, I’ll describe some I’ve tried.

For example, I will eat dinner tonight, have liquids only on Friday and not eat again until breakfast on Saturday = I call that a 36 hour liquid only FD.

(Dr. Mosley recommends starting your fasting experiment by eating 1/4 TDEE during that 36 hours. I learned very early that I had enough stored energy -fat- that I could more easily not eat anything rather that calorie counting so my fasting schedule has become liquid only.)

When I do b2b FD’s, as an example, I eat dinner Sunday night and do not eat again until Tuesday dinner = 48 hours.

I have also done b2b FD’s, by example, eating Sunday night then not eating again until Wednesday AM, 2 full days plus overnight = 60 hours.

Sometimes on a NFD I find I am not hungry at breakfast and do not eat until lunch at noon which is 16 hours fasting since 8:00 PM dinner the night before = 16:8.

Dr. Fung’s new book describes even more fasting patterns and corresponding insulin levels in each. Very informative.

Ok so your son or daughter comes home and says I tried to complete a task today but I didn’t finish it – I failed. What do you say to them, yes son thats right you failed or yes dear daughter you’re a failure. I don’t think you would! So why oh why do we not treat our selves with the same kindness. It is not the end of the world if you didn’t complete a fast day. You just re focus note why it went wrong and try again. That is not failing in my eyes.

    DAY 11 WELLINGTON NZ FD

Greetings everyone, some great posts above with some great advice and support from everyone.

Thank you all for making this journey a lot easier knowing there are all of us on the same page of our journey to skinny.

Yesterday lunch time I was tempted by a juicy, hot, steak and mushroom pie, flakey pastry to die for, and I would normally follow that up with an apple cream donut, a once a week lunch treat. But before purchasing I pictured all my friends on here, standing behind me, watching me, wagging your fingers at me and shaking your heads saying “Don’t you dare Mike,” and my shameful thoughts were overcome and I went home feeling proud that because of YOUR support I didn’t relent to about 800 calories. Like I said yesterday, being Accountable for your actions, taking Responsibility for your decisions is so positive in the results we can achieve.

HOLLYLJ: Thanks for your kind words. We can all change our lives but it only happens slowly, so small steps at the start, recognising the negatives in our lives and addressing them with positive actions. It’s like trying to break a bad habit, it normally takes about 21 days to adjust a life time habit, that’s why so many give up because it’s too hard, but once we crack it the outcomes are sooo good we then move on to our next challenge.

LILYMARTIN: Very good advice about no “bad” people on here. Another example of negative self talk that drags us down. What we feed our subconscious mind influences our outcomes. So if we tell ourselves “I am having a bad day” then guess what we’ll keep on having, definitely not a good day anyway.

So be very careful how we let that little voice in our minds talk to us because our THOUGHTS BECOME REALITY and our self talk can be so negative and it can undo so much hard work leading up to one decision that “Maybe just one cream donut won’t hurt because I deserve it today”

Take care everyone and stay strong over the upcoming weekend. Cheers Mike

    Day 10 | 3rd post | checking in start of 36h fast

Dinner @ 8pm – avocado, tomato and red onion salad, 2 fried eggs and garlic roasted pumpkin
Liquid (black coffee, water etc) throughout the next 36 hours. Beef bullion to take the edge off hunger.

    All the best everyone.
By the way, a very good article from Dr Fung
    https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/difference-calorie-restriction-fasting-fasting-27/

Australia Day 11 NFD weekend ahead – now to play my meals and not the nod all the good work of this week. Have a great day all and cheers to the Dynamiac Dozen doing the FD!

    Day 10, Gozo, Malta, NFD

I stayed within my TDEE today.

    Good evening/ night everyone.

In one of the past Forums I was in we had some little “Motivational Thoughts for the Day” which always seemded to hit the spot for someone, somewhere in the Forum who needed the inspiration to keep going or get over a set back, so let’s try them again:

    Todays Thought for the Day:

“Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward your original goals and finding the answer rather than dwelling on the past.” ~Denis Waitley

Extra post – my typing is terrible! I meant to say I will plan my meals over the weekend and so not undo all the good of the week! 🙂

    2nd post

Just checking in to the 36 hour fast team. Great to be doing it as 1 of 12. It will be liquid only for me. Just a few splashes of milk and a mug of vegetable boiilion, out of a jar I am afraid, about 12 cals and it give a salty hit. I need it after today’s NFD. Not huge quantites as it would have been once but half a jacket potato plus a piece of birthday cake were things I could have avoided.

Now ravenous of course with a new loaf in the kitchen in my mind. Have come to bed to get out of the way of it. Yesterday with zero grain, potato, rice carbs etc was much better and I didn’t feel hungry. If i avoid those carbs everything is simpler.

Coda and others, v interested in the F word discussion. It always accompanies a kind of self loathing that is difficult to shake. It is quite true that being kind and understanding to oneself often doesn’t come easily.

Fasting or not, stay strong everyone!

    2nd post today.

Despite my enthusiasm this morning at getting to day 10 and it being a NFD. I totally abused the privilege and decided to indulge in the biscuits and cake that were in my office. Lunch was healthy broth. But early dinner Pizza. Still throughly enjoyed my day although I didn’t feel as content as usual and stomach felt heavy. So it’s good I experienced this (see me trying to put a positive slant on this) and now I know I feel much better making healthier choices.

I’m loving the the fact that only 10 days of this 5 2 and u learn so much about what your body needs and how you feel!

Started my Thursday pm to Saturday am challenge! Purging myself 😂✌️️

    2nd post

Successful FD but taking myself off to bed soon to get away from temptation

Thank you for the advice regarding longer fasting periods @ciren2 and @coda and @back2thefuture. How often do people do the 36/48hr fasts? Is it done to stimulate further weight loss or purely for the health benefits – I will also look into Dr Fung’s articles/book as suggested for some further clarity and inspiration

Good night and good luck to the 12 of you doing the Thursday pm to Saturday am challenge!

    Day 10 USA Hawaii NFD

170.4 lb on scale this morning was very encouraging. Hoping to see that 169 or lower soon!

    Hi:

This is just a general question, coming from an above reference to a ’36 hour fast team’.

5:2 requires a ’36 hour fast’. So are you saying you are a team doing 5:2? What is everyone else doing?

    Just curious.

    @and exhale
    @coda
    @ bert1802

Thanks for the replies been quite easy today but starving now so off to bed

    Weight day tomorrow 😁

    Day 10 – Canada – FD

My FD has gone very well. It was a busy day and now I am looking forward to my dinner – a small piece of barbeque chicken and steamed vegetables. I find it odd how I can fast and not think about food till dinner time and yet on a NFD I feel like grazing all day.

Have a great weekend everyone and thank you for all your helpful tips. Yea team!

    Hi Simcoe

That was me and I can see why it was confusing. We have got a group of 12 together who are fasting from Thurs pm through to Sat am this week. Some doing water or v low cal liquid only some doing 5/600 or less. Just the usual really. I guess the unusual aspect for me at least is that it is on a Friday, which I don’t often do. We are also using the team aspect to motivate everyone to finish so that we can be proud of the whole team completing.

Now I am explaining it, it doesn’t sound very exciting but I am excited by it! But then I do have a sad life!

I think everyone probably does 5/2 as a usual or one of the normal variants maybe.

    Hi:

    Thanks!

    Good Luck to you all!

Sorry avnt been on here for a week been busy in my new job. Fast day for me tommorow. X

    Hi AT

    – the normal 5:2 fast is 36hrs not 24. It starts after the evening meal, go to bed, FD consume up to 500cals F or 600M go to bed, get up,break fast. It’s the 2 sleeping nights that adds the extra hours.

    Cheers,
    Merry

Simcoeluv as Sarah has explained it is more of a team effort to fulfill a fast on Friday, so we are not doing it alone. That way when that Friday feeling hits knowing others are in this together keeps us focused. Nothing more than that except encouragement to succeed.

    Day 10 – London, UK – FD

Doing well this week, plenty of water and exercise and have stayed well within my TDEE and 500 on each Fast Day, so feeling quite happy with myself. Hope it lasts!! Planning to weigh tomorrow to see what results I have achieved for this week.
