  • Day 7 Sunshine Coast Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί NFD. Travelled all day, solo driver. Now feel as though I got off a boat. Balance all over the place. No snacks but ate lunch and dinner at brother’s place. Lovely to catch up.

    Day 7 – Switzerland – NFD
Happy to report that being more accountable is working really well – 2kgs down on this time last week (now 90.4kg/13st3.5) and can fit into my favourite jeans again without swearing. Not sure if I’m going for that sort of rate this week, as I got very vague with it and my timekeeping went to pot.
Good luck everyone- stick with it!

Day 7, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Fasting Day

Yay, back to fasting. I love that I don’t even have to think about food.

The weekend went fine, (my weekends are actually four days as I work M, Tu, W) – ate probably more than I needed but the scales aren’t too angry. Staying in my 140s which is my goal. Want to keep my ten day average at 145, that will be fine. My clothes are fitting great without the concern of tugging or pulling or adjusting, just put them on and wear them.

Wishing everybody a wonderful day. We are still in revival at church so getting in my exercise during the work week will be tricky. Some I can do in the morning but we don’t get home until 10:30 so I won’t do too much at night. Will try to get in a nice walk at lunch.

    Stay the course.

    Day 7….. Florida…… FD

Mflood…. I as well must pay close attention to my NFD calorie intake unless I’m eating out of boredom like yesterday…. lol. So what I do is make sure regardless eat at least 1200 calories, even if I have to override what my brain is telling me.
I think it has to do with our stomached shrinking during our FDs. I also heard and contrary to public beliefs is that you become accustom to lower amount of calories….. there goes that binge theory most people have……. lol

I was beating my self up yesterday for boredom eating but I think it’s going to be okay. I have had one of those days in a while but I will overcome them….. I am women here me roar!

Today, is FD looking forward to it…… nice salad for lunch. I also found a nice bag of popcorn in the cupboard to have with my salad. It’s only 80 calories…..
So with morning and afternoon coffee, I’ll have 330 for dinner…..

I’ve got one more piece of chocolate for 42 calories in the fridge, maybe I’ll be able to have it tonight as a treat. Ooh, the excitement of it has got me giddy! Then, it’s the last one and hopefully, I can avoid bringing more in during the holiday.

Okay, okay…. I know I’ll have to bring them in. My boys enjoy those treats around the holidays. I don’t mean everyday chocolate, I’m talking of the ones only available during the holidays!

Sorry to those chocolate lovers whom have given it up. My mind is wandering a bit.

    Have a great day!
    Michelle

US Day 7 FD. B2TF… sorry I didn’t check in yesterday… and maybe the day before. I spent the weekend painting my bedroom and bathroom and can’t believe it’s Monday already and back to work! Have a good day all.

Please add me to the November challenge! My goal is to loose 10lbs. And walk 45 mins per day…thanks guys

Please add me to the November challenge, I would like to join and loose 10lbs and walk 45mins per day!

    Day 7 Georgia, US FD
Feeling lousy today from gorging yesterday. Having a cup of flavored green tea for breakfast. I find that green tea helps on my fast days. I drink a cup of hot tea for breakfast and then I take a jar of cold green tea to drink at work throughout my evening. I really love the flavored ones that Tazo makes.

Day 5 and 6 E.Canada FD for Day 5, NFD for Day 6

I am feeling stressed these days for various reasons. On the positive side, I’m not gaining. But I haven’t been able to follow through on a fast in several weeks. Day 5 flopped.

Bert 1802, thank you for your story about the perils of guests, of bringing stuff in for them. I entertained over the weekend. I’m going to start a separate thread about this; the challenge of being a good host – which means giving them both what they want to eat, and how much. Yet leftovers – oi, leftovers. What to do, or rather, not do.

BiddieV – I like your term, food blindness. Another idea for a thread – a glossary.

    ********************

Okay, down to brass tacks. I have two days to do.

    Day 5 – Sat. FD. Let’s see.
I meant to have a liquid fast, to see if I’d do better. I forgot and was halfway through my usual breakfast – so 1/2 bran flakes and milk, 100. Then ate a little peanut butter without thinking, mainly because I was overthinking something else. 50. A lot of pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries and nuts which I had bought as additions to a salad for tomorrow’s party, but ended up eating myself. Disaster. About 300. So far, 450.

I biked to the local market and bought stuff for Sunday’s party. The guest list was short, and got shorter when two people had to bow out last minute. A bright, clear, and nippy day. Cold eats calories, fortunately.
I had a bowl of miso soup as I was hungry – 100, st 550. Ate some of the baguette I’d bought, 3 small slices 40, pb 40, st 630 Banana, 80, st 710. Another bike trip to the library and back, great as it preoccupied my mind from eating. Back though to raid some of the party stuff, including about 1/2 of a 3.5 inch tart. 300, st. 1010. By the end of the day I’m almost at my TDEE instead of a FD, because I cook an entire package of bacon, and while I segregate out two strips of it to eat, that is a lot: 240, bringing me to st 1250, and something else for 100, st. 1350. Only 100 instead of 1000 calories under.

The problem is that preparing for a party makes one think about food, more than for ordinary meals. Lesson learned: the day before one is a host, is better an NFD, but plan for ‘raids’ because they can happen.

    Okay, day 6, NFD.

I had my usual breakfast because the clocks changed and I was too hungry to wait for my brunch. 200. Okay, then my brunch. I had 1/2 boiled egg, 40, about 600 worth of bacon, 840, some bits of fruit, 30, 3 small baguette slices 40, 910, some rich yogurt, 200, 1110. More tart, 300, st. 1410. Supper rolled around and it was chicken 300, 1/2 small potato with butter, 60, more rich yogurt, 200, and a bit of apple, 20, more yogurt, 100, bringing us to over 2080 calories. So I’ve likely gained by about (500 less 100 saved yesterday) for 400. That is less than a pound, I hope.

    No exercise done on Sun

    Day 1 – UK – FD

So here am I back on it for the first time for months. I have gained quite a bit. I am only 5′ and now weigh 10st so not looking good. I have a holiday in the Caribbean in 5 weeks time so I am anxious to do whatever I can in the time.

I have also stopped drinking which is where most of my excess weight comes from but I am a regular drinker and am not expecting to find stopping easy. As well as the alcohol I also have an under-active thyroid so a fair few things stacked against my weight.

Feeling fine today, just about to have some pea soup for lunch and my husband is out for the day and so I don’t have to worry about cooking dinner for him.

I have a lovely dog and I always walk with him for about an hour a day, I am also considering re-joining the gym although I really don’t fancy this. Wish me luck please!

    Day 7 – Canada – NFD

On Day 5 (NFD) I overate in the evening at bonfire night and felt so uncomfortable.
I will try not to do that again. However, having read through all the posts above I realize all is not lost and I will start the second week with fresh resolve to do better.
Onward and downwards. I will look for a copy of Dr. Fung’s book as well.

    Day 7 Brisbane Australia FD
Had a good day, stuck to my 500 cal & walked 4.5 km home. First attempt at a reasonable walk after injuring my patella. Happy to be walking again. Had a weigh in & have dropped 2.6 kg since 1 Nov so stoked!

    Day 7 – Canada – NFD

On Day 5 I overate at a get together in the evening and I felt so uncomfortable.
I will be more mindful of that in the future and try not to let it happen again. Having read all of the above posts, I find I’m not the only one that falls into this trap and I am full of resolve to be more conscious about what I put on my plate.
As I start into my second week I will follow the mantra “onwards and downwards”. .

Day 7 USA (Illinois) πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ NFD

Did okay yesterday. Following church, we had a nice lunch with daughter and granddaughters at Ikea. Had their grilled salmon and vegetables, oh and a side of Swedish meatballs. They remind me of ones my mother would make for my Swedish father. Nice 500 calorie lunch then light supper. Oh, and leftover popcorn from the movie. But then got in my mile power walk before supper.

Pretty busy day today but tomorrow will likely fast to get back on track.

Great hearing from everyone – just got caught up on post reading. I continue to get compliments from folks far and near when they see me posting Facebook photos in Cubs championship clothing. I am happy to share 5:2 with anyone!

    Onward and downward!

Day 7 : Perth, Australia FD
A week done! 3 fast days and 2kg loss. Have exercised 5 days out of 7 and am aiming for 7 out of 7 next week.

    Day 6 – Cumbria UK – NFD

After a drizzly day yesterday, today we have gorgeous blue skies and sunshine but rather chilly – snow is visible on the high fells of 3000ft – lovely day.

No Breakfast or lunch today, had brunch out instead – sourdough toast, avocado and poached eggs and flat white – this should keep me going until tonight…….out with my Pilates group for a Thai meal.

Had a good weekend of NFD apart from a few sneaky chocolates last night…..so not feeling too guilty.
FD this week are planned for Tuesday and Thursday and possibly Saturday as an extra!

Good luck @englishlady – you have this – that holiday is a good motivator! I like you enjoy a glass or two of wine – I have found not drinking on 3/4 days has helped keep me in check

I like many others on here still struggle on my NFD but I have decided not to worry about calorie counting on those days but to try and eat only when hungry and keep to healthy food where possible. If I have a bad day I try to leave it behind and start fresh the next day!!!!

I only calorie count on my FD and strictly keep to my 500 cal or less – this seems to work for me – I have been on the 5:2 lifestyle since January and have lost around 18kg and have maintained – varying a kg here or there – I weigh weekly after my second FD – if my weight is up a bit I try to do a 4:3 the next week and the extra kg then drops off

Hope you all have a good and fun day whether on a FD or NFD

day 7, australia FD. I didn’t post yesterday but happy to say my NFD are getting better. Today was a fasting day and I did pretty good. Went over my allocated 500 slightly so will try harder next fasting day. Not weighing myself until Friday and hoping for another 500 g loss. Fingers crossed.
Tomorrow is my running day so looking forward to that as it always makes me feel better. Hope everyone is going well.

Georgia/USA/Day7/NFD: Have a great day everyone!!

Day 7: Gloucestershire, UK: Fast day…..
Lots of people fasting today, being Monday. Good luck to all of us.
    B2F: I’m with you today.

    Day 7 | Ohio, USA | FD

Hi all. I’m back. Apologies, was away for the week visiting aging parents and just focusing on that. But I will say, my newly formed habit of not snacking all day paid off. I weighed myself when I got back after a week of no fasts and had maintained or even dropped a little.

Glad for a FD today so as not to election eat.

This month — my goal is 126 lbs (57.2 kgs). With American Thanksgiving coming up and the cooler weather settling in, I’m trying to make a reasonable goal of 3-4 pounds.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Day 7– Colorado, USA– FD

Usually for FD, I prefer to do zero calorie, liquids-only.

However, since I am post-op & trying to mend bones, I will eat my 500 cals, concentrating on protein, calcium, dark leafy greens & veggies.
    Quality nutrition needed!!

    156 lbs. = Original start of 5:2
147.5 = start weight for November Challenge
146.0 = Today, after 1st week of November …. YAY!!!

    @englishlady good luck!

@yvonneb I used to love tea but got away from it the past few years. Am too finding drinking tea (green included) on FDs — and other days — really helpful!

    Day 7, NYC, FD

I had really been eating ok during my NFD’s and on Saturday I decided to not even think of logging in calories because I was at a wedding. Last night when I was supposed to be back logging my calories I had a little messy snacking. Nothing too dire but not focused and eating a good healthy meal more grabbing little things while watching tv. I still feel fuller faster but I am happy to reset and refocus today w my fast day. It feels as if it will be a bit of a struggle today but I def feel as if I almost crave to do a fast day. Which is odd but there it is.

Great Lakes– Hope your parents are doing well.
Sounds like your newly formed “No Snacking” habit is working out for you!

I never thought I’d get there, but with the discipline of 5:2 & reading Dr. Jason Fung’s web-site, thankfully, I’ve ditched snacking completely too.
As Dr. Fung explains, each time we eat anything, we get a boost of insulin (“the weight-gain hormone”) so the longer we go between meals, the more control we have over smoothing, leveling & lowering our insulin (and our body weight too!)

His articles re: 3 square meals vs all day long snacking/ grazing are eye-opening & convincing. If I have time, I’ll try to find & post links, in case anyone would like add’l supportive reading.

Here’s one of the articles, called “The Perils of Snacking”

    https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/perils-snacking-hormonal-obesity-xiii/

It’s an excellent web-site to get lost in! πŸ™‚

    Hi UK day 7 FD

Welcome to Fattymessi and Livfloyd74 – Backtothefuture will give you the low down on the challenge and add you to her spreadsheet but we are all on day 7 no matter when you actually start the challenge (Englishlady take note). Day of month = day of challenge.

@erika I am from Comber Co Down but originally from Belfast – not far from Ravenhill (Kingspan) home of Ulster Rugby.

@brightonbelle – that last try! An unbelievable performance. So if you are supporting Ireland in the 6 nations where do you originate from?

@Backtothefuture – note for your spreadsheet – Action is not hiding due to the result from the rugby but had surgery so unable to play golf or use computer for a while. A bit down in the dumps but that is due to the rugby and not surgery lol

Hi Day 7 Georgia USA .. NFD …
I hope everyone is doing awesome!! Have a wonderful week!!

Day 7 Surrey UK NFD Second post, I think! Just to say I made bone broth yesterday, which I have found really worth having on fast days. So FD set for tomorrow, let’s see what happens.

Day 7 SW WA USA FD
Planning on a FD even though there’s a baby shower at the end of the work day. I’m thinking that if there’s something yummy, I can wrap it and save it for a NFD.

NorrieB how do you make your bone broth? I’ve made lots of soups but not a bone broth.

All this talk about bone broth has really got me curious to learn more…

Found this article, first it explains what’s so great & nutritious about Bone Broth. And how it can help with intermittent fasting too! “A Broth that can do more than Cure a Cold.”

At the end, there’s a simple, but very detailed recipe:

    https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/bone-broth-broth-can-cure-cold-idm-6-2/

Next time I’m at the grocery, I’m stopping by the butcher to request some bones!! πŸ™‚

Day 7. Florida USA FD. Back to my Monday Tuesday back-to-back fast days. Had a good weekend hopefully will stay fasting for the next 60 hours and a brunch on Wednesday is something to look forward to. I am finding that I’ve gotten back to exercise aerobics twice a week yoga twice a week and it’s amazing now that I’m starting to do it with some regularity it’s easy to get back in the groove just as easy as falling out of the groove when you stop doing it. I have found keeping busy really helps the back-to-back fast days I don’t even think about food started this morning with an 8 o’clock aerobics class errands all day – busy all day tomorrow ending with a 6 o’clock to our yoga class just mellows me out and ready to go to bed and get up for brunch Wednesday morning.
    have a great day.

    Day 7, London UK, FD

It’s just so much easier having a fast day without going for a run in the morning. It sounds so obvious I know, but I had to give it a go to find out what it’s like. Instead, I’ll go for my run after work and before dinner.

    Day 7, US, NFD

Coda you can shout all you like but today I FAILED. Totally and utterly, I bet I’ve had about 3000 cals and still going. Just can’t stop even though I feel positively sick, no good reason either.

    Day 7, Toronto, FD

Holly – Sending you a cyber hug. No judgment, no advice really, just a hug. We’ve all been there, at least most of us have been there. Do what you need to do. Thinking about you today, even though we’re complete strangers, just going to put that out there. Sending you that hug and some positive thoughts.

Holly, you have not F (well, you know)…. You have eaten 3,000 calories which even if it was all immediately stored as accumulated weight – would be less than the 3500 calories which equal a pound. And, of course, all that we eat is not stored as we are still breathing, walking, going to the bathroom, sleeping, working, etc. etc. etc.,

You are fine, just move on and keep on keepin’ on !

Just like when a person gains 4 pounds overnight – they did not eat 3500 x 4 calories (well, probably not) so it is not a true number.

Just take a deep breath – hey, that burns calories, too !

    Day 7 – CA FD
So, we are doing a water fast today. WE! My husband is doing it with me. He is not concerned with weight loss, but the health benefits of fasting. Water fasting sure opens up a lot of time in your day. No food prep, eating, clean up to worry about. It’s still early in the day but, I think we will do great. Have a great day!

    Day 8 NZ NFD
I have a house full of extra teenagers again today…theoretically on study leave
I love having my kids at home but boy do they pack away the food!!!
Managed fine ignoring it on my FD yesterday but will need to be vigilant today

Day 7 UK FD – liquids only, maybe 60 cals

My NFD not great yesterday and so today I have literally been craving carbs all day. Determined to stay on track today. Really finding this thread helpful and motivating.

Holly LJ, there is never really a good reason. It just happens some times. Step away from the kitchen now. Try to have an early night, put it behind you and just carry on tomorrow…..xx

Thanks so much Judy, Lindasue & Sarah57. I feel so much better and am going to take that advice…early night and start afresh tomorrow. I apologize for the use of the F-word!πŸ˜‰

    day 7 uk
I had planned a fast day but took MIL out of her residential care home, for lunch, just had soup but it triggered the hunger dragon!! It was a stressful day. I think I stayed under tdee, just!

So tomorrow WILL be a fast day, I have pilates class in the morning and a hair apointment in the afternoon, so a pleasant relaxing day!!

    Good luck all x

    Day 7 UK FD

Yay a week done well done us! I wasn’t sure if I was going to weigh myself or not yet, so have decided not to, if the scale hasn’t gone down I will lose heart ❀️ so as I need all the willpower I can get I am just going to persevere without weighing. Gotta do what’s best for you.

FD today, what works best for me is lunchtime eating, then I’m set for the rest of the day. Been to the gym, so I’m feeling pretty ok. Find I drink a lot of water and lemon on FDs especially so that good. Off for a lovely relaxing bath to keep me away from the fridge. Good luck all.

    Keep going Holly!

DAY 8 WELLINGTON NEW ZEALAND. NFD today. 3FD’s completed since start.

Hi everyone. Apologies for absence past few days, I had a minor eye surgery procedure last Thursday and recovery this time has taken a little longer and time in front of the PC was restrictive.

Thankyou again CODA for prompting my accountability to the group, you are a great friend. Congratulations to the IRISH for a great Rugby result at the weekend in Chicago. Feelings here in NZ are if we had to lose then losing to the Irish is far far better than if it was any other team. Just watch out for the return match in a couple of weeks time.

I have scanned all the recent posts over the past couple of days and the positivity and the results are amazing, what a powerful group we have going here from all corners of the world. Isn’t it interesting that we all have the same temptations and hurdles to overcome no matter where we live in this diverse world. Keep up the great work everyone. We are an amazing group of people and always focus on the positives, don’t let any negatives pull you down for too long. Cheers, Mike

    Day 7|FD| Toronto

    Second post. Gozo malt

Today was supposed to be a FD for me. But this evening I had the usual weekely Eucharistic meeting and the woman taking care of finances bought a cake to celebrate our priest leaving us for another parish and welcoming the new young priest who’s taking over. I didn’t refuse the cake and ate it. Afterwards had apiece of salmon and a yougurt with honey.

Tomorrow is another day and I can be careful what to eat then.

    Good evening/night everyone.

    Day 7|FD| Bucks UK

    Day 7, Florida USA, NFD

I only weigh once a week but I was so hungry yesterday on my FD, that I decided to get on the scale this morning. Down 4.6 lbs, very happy about that. Holly, I was not perfect on my NFD’s, just start over in the morning, if we where perfect we probably wouldn’t be on this eating plan. Forgive yourself.

    Day 7 : UK : NFD

Started out as a FD, ate an apple around 3pm and 4pm then arrived home at 6pm and ate bread and cheese.

Even though the FD didn’t happen, it felt like successful in a way as it’s much better than I have been doing. I’ve been experiencing extreme fatigue these last few weeks and I find it very difficult not to eat carbs when I’m very tired and this is much more than very tired.

Reading posts throughout the day is helping find my ‘willpower muscle’ πŸ™‚

NYC, Day 7, FD. ..120.5. Holding up so far, but I have a memorial to attend tonight for a friend who passed a year ago. It’s actually one year to the day that I broke my foot at her house. Hoping just to hold it together tonight. Not worrying about how much I eat.

Election Day tomorrow in the US. The anxiety is not helping.
