  • Day 6 and I weighed today, I am down 1.4 pounds. I was expecting more but that’s ok, it will come! Non Fasting today.
In it to Thin it- I am in The Okanagan Valley! Wine crush is the grape seed and skins (leftover from the wine process) ground into a powder. The healing benefits are amazing, especially the inflammation stuff. I’m putting it in my morning smoothies and it pretty tasty too.
    Have a great day all!

    Day 6, NFD NYC

Day post wedding, where I didn’t keep track of calories. Funnily enough I feel my stomach can’t handle eating more food or rich food, I am looking forward to my fast day tomorrow. I need it. I will certainly make today a light day if not a fast day.

    Day 6 western USA NFD

Had a good NFD yesterday. It even included an oreo stack treat at Barnes & Nobles. I enjoyed it with some coffee as I began reading Jason Fung’s The Complete Guide to Fasting. The barista was glad to find out the calorie count for me to I could be accountable.

FDs for me are usually M & TH.

Wow. So happy to see you guys have this community. Just started November 1 so looking to an inspired month. QUICK question, approximately how many calories do you eat on your not fasting days? THANKS for the support in advance.

    Michael

    Georgia/USA/Day6: NFD

Hi All, please may I join in – even though we are past the beginning of November. I am just starting again with my first FD tomorrow. I am 5 foot and have an under-active thyroid and two stone to lose. I am going on holiday in early December and currently do not have a single item of clothing that fits. I really need some support and encouragement. I have done it before and know it works, so I would love to be included.

Michael: I, personally, don’t count calories….just try to make good food choices on non-fasting days.
Coda: Thank you for thinking of me when you were reading the book….of course you are right and so wise…I appreciate your comments.

    Day 6| NFD|Toronto
Absolutely perfect late Autumn day here with lots of colour left in the trees against a sparkling blue sky. Just back from a long walk. That was the good news; the bad news, between a friend’s birthday party/dinner yesterday and a late breakfast/brunch today my NFD calorie count is shamefully over the top! Oh well, tomorrow is another day and my goal is to live healthy, and enjoy life, in the real world.
Best wishes to all on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

    Day 6|NFD| Bucks UK

Chilled Sunday… my daughter had vocal lessons – she’s going to be a star- I’m biased!⭐
Then 2 of my cousins (I have loads) came by for visit. Had a glass of spiced rum with them and a catch up which warmed me right up on this chilly autum day. 😊
    Ready for tomorrow’s FD

2nd post hello English lady you are very welcome to join us. Backtothefuture who is team leader this month will not be up yet. We start with the day of the challenge which is the day of the month, your location which I assume from your name is uk? and if it is a fast day fd or non fast day nfd.

Mikebridge are you planning on committing to our challenge or just popping in? you can use the tracker on this site to calculate your total daily calories (TDEE) this is what you should aim for on a nfd. on fast day eat up to a quarter of that. Hope this helps?

    Day 6 UK NFD

All good today! Breakfast and dinner with dessert. Think I did ok! Visited family so had no control over what I ate, did have control of how much I ate.

    Day 6- FD-Sunny Florida USA

I like the challenge of the fast day, I will say I am hungry though. I was talking with a friend and she fasts(nothing but water) everyday from 6 pm to 1 pm. I like something for breakfast for sure.

Making a big pot of vegetable soup for the week.

I don’t weigh everyday, do you? Once a week is good I think.

UK day 6 NFD -all good , will definitely catch up on posts tomorrow

    D7 Melbourne, Australia, NFD.

I used to wake on NFD and couldn’t wait to have breakfast and looked forward to my 3 meals a day with great excitement but it seems I don’t have that excitement to eat anymore. Maybe it’s just today as I have a few stressors to deal with but I’m certainly not rushing to get into the kitchen this morning. Appetite will probably appear later in the day I suppose. Great FD yesterday though weight up 500gm today. Probably due to NFD on Sat which included wine and calories a bit over my TDEE. No problem – I probably weigh myself too often πŸ˜‰ and clothes feeling good. It will sort itself out.

Itsmyturn – there are lots of online recipes for cauliflower pizza base. The most important thing is to make sure you squeeze out as much fluid from the cooked cauliflower as possible and the toppings should be dry. The dryer the base, the better the texture.

    Happy D7 all. X

    Day 6 USA NFD
recovering from my sore throat. scales showed 169.8 which was my goal – to get under 170. However, I will need to be very careful as I start eating after being sick. Most likely it will jump back up over 170 but still it was nice to see the number on the scale πŸ˜‰

Making a big pot of organic chicken/veggie soup now that I can eat.

Best wishes to all on this journey.

Day 7 – New Zealand – Fast Day
When I woke this morning, I really didn’t feel like fasting today, then I realised that I would have to β€˜fess up to all you, and I knew that I would have to just do it and not carrying on isn’t an option. The accountability will keep me going when the motivation is lacking. Busy week ahead with lots of happenings with the kids, the schools try and pack as much as they can into the last term of the year. Trying to visualise a slimmer, fitter me for the summer 

    Day 6, London UK, NFD

    Day 6 – Canada – NFD

Busy day today but trying to stay within my calorie limit.

    Day 6…. Florida….. NFD

Not a good day food wise…. found myself eating out of boredom…. and it was mostly junk.
Thank goodness tomorrow I’d FD! Physically, I feel ill eating like I did today!
    Ugg!
    Michelle

Day 6: Pacific NW USA, 16:8 NFD, will have 2 healthy meals today. B2B FD’s starting tomorrow for Mon and Tues (you too, itsmyturn!)

Wecome EnglishLady and Michaelbridge (please let us know if you plan to log in with us daily). Coda has already given you the scoop!

I’ve been reading quotes from Dr Fung’s new book to OH today. It’s very timely for me because I needed a renewal of my enthusiasm. The health benefits of IF are, simply put, amazing. I’m adding a quote to my notes-to-self on my fridge, “Hunger is a state of mind, not a state of stomach.” (page174)

August 2024 – you can change your calorie intake tomorrow, the other wonderful things you experienced today can’t be taken for granted, just enjoyed!

In it to thin it – I too have an underactive thyroid and am treating that with medication and adrenal supplements from my naturopath. Your health situation is different from mine but something I’ve discovered, I now recognize fatigue differently than I used to. My old pattern was to think I needed to carb load with frequent snacks during the day because I confused fatigue for hunger.

Erica – life happens, turn the page and it’s always the beginning of a new week!

Baygirl – all the good work you’ve accomplished isn’t jeopardized unless you anticipate amnesia! You have learned and that is in your vault.

Ciren – a few of us are fasting tomorrow, if you want let’s do it together.

Alanix – thanks! Back in my first week in this challenge game, in May, Coda had to remind me of the same thing, that we track ” Day X” of challenge by date on calendar, not how long we personnally have been on 5:2.

Miesque – your novel 3 mile walk may have added some muscle inflammation/water retention and weight on the scale. Do not dispair! I’m glad you checked in and kept up your daily record of logging in.

pinkpeony – I weigh one time each week after a FD so as to rid myself of anxiety over daily fluctuations. I log those results into the tracker on this web site. Others find it helps them to stay more conscientious if they weigh more often. You decide how weighing in will help you stick to your plan, maybe try different schedules and see what you prefer.

Maui – my goal also is to get into and through the 160’s this month too.

WACM – hooray for your resolve today!

richard67 – missed you yesterday, glad you’re still here with us!

Hooray for us, we’ve almost completed our 1st week of this challenge!

Day 7, Country West Australia FD
Can you believe we have been doing this for a week now !!
Posting daily has definitely made me more accountable and knowing I have to honestly share ( what’s the point if we are not honest ?!) really keeps me going. The fact that I have posted daily for 7 days is a minor miracle in itself.
Over the weekend with a houseful of guests and cooking I managed to keep a mindful eye on what I ate thanks to this community – not something I would normally have done. I did indulge but do not feel guilty.
( I think that is one of the problems , we vilify food when it is just fuel and sometimes we overfill the tank which doesn’t do us any good so we have to fill up less next time.)
So 1 piece of chocolate did not morph into half the block. Prowling around the kitchen after dinner I opened the fridge, the pantry, picked up various items of food , thought again and put them back. Winning!!! I did have 2 pieces of the most delicious rocky road , a parting gift from guests. My taste buds sang as they enjoyed every morsel and calorie.
Today my body is looking forward to a FD.
Happy Monday to all. And if anyone is doing it tough know that there is a whole bunch of people around the world thinking of you.πŸ™‚

    Nov 6 – NFD – NC, USA

Today was great! Except for the time change. I like that it gets lighter earlier now, but it is already dark by 5:30PM, and I HATE it. Anyway, today I had a jalapeno cheddar bagel with 2 eggs for breakfast and MAN was it GOOD! I completely forgot about lunch – I did recycling and went to the gym and took a 2 mile run. Felt really good out today at 70 degrees! So I put a pot of poor man’s soup on in the slow cooker this morning and it still isn’t done – so I had some tuna and crackers in the meantime. My next FD is tomorrow. I’ll be hitting the gym in the morning before work. I think I decided I will only do a fast paced walk on incline instead of running. That’ll get my heart rate up without being so hard on my body (I’m so scared that I’ll pass out if I run on FD or the day after, so I haven’t tried it yet).

Question – does anyone have a hard time actually eating their TDEE? Today I’ve only had about 900 calories. but my TDEE is about 1800. I eat pretty healthy usually so it seems hard to eat that many calories without overfilling my tummy during every meal. I didn’t count calories before I started this, so I’m wondering if I’ve always just eaten a low amount and so I’m still sticking to it even though I fast twice a week..? I’ve been reading that most people have trouble with keeping under TDEE on NFD, but I’m having the opposite problem. Is this going to affect my results? Are we required to eat TDEE on NFDs for the 5:2 to work correctly?

    Thanks!

@pinkpeony I like the challenge too!! I decided I will weigh every Tuesday, since that is when I first started the challenge. That way I can see what my weekly difference is… and it’s something to look forward to!

    Hi M and welcome:

You are not required to eat to your TDEE for 5:2 to be successful. 5:2 works by cutting the number of calories you are eating. If you eat less than you are allowed (not required) to eat, all that will happen is you will lose weight a little faster.

    Good Luck!

    Day 7 : Melbourne Aust : FD
Have missed a couple of entries.
Going well so far – have not gone over (or much over TDEE) on NFDs as yet, which is what my downfall was, last time I tried this approach. I gave up, thinking “why am having 2 miserable days each week and not losing anything?” When all along I was sabotaging myself by eating about 3-500 cals above my TDEE on NFDs.

This time I have been logging my food each day and trying very hard to remember each 30ml milk, the odd walnut or tsp of butter, and not have ‘food blindness’!

Today I haven’t felt hungry (it’s now getting towards lunchtime) and I plan to have a boiled egg, which is my strategy on FDs – only an egg and sometimes a low fat cheese slice during the day, then a 250-300cal dinner. Any sort of carbohydrate just makes me hungry, whereas a protein snack doesn’t. Will weigh tomorrow morning and see how I’m doing.

    Day 7 FD NZ
    Fast is going well.
I have some hunger pangs but my meal tonight is planned so I’ll hold out and have my 1/4 TDEE
I feel better prepared to manage my NFD this week
I was reading on another forum about clothes being looser but scales not moving and I feel I fit into that zone quite well at the moment so even though the scales are not my friend I’m in this for the long haul

Australia Day 7 FD – apologies @back2thefuture – I just realised I wrote my check-in on Friday but for some reason the post did not submit correctly. So here’s today’s one instead! πŸ™‚ BTW my starting weight for the November challenge is 89.3kg – the same starting weight as for the October challenge! My goal is to lose at least 2 kilos. We got two puppies a week ago and they are running me ragged! What was I thinking!

    Day 6 – Melbourne Australia
This is my 3rd fast day and so far it is going well. it’s 1:30pm and i have just had a boiled egg and some shaved turkey breast which will hopefully get me to dinner to have a 300-400cal dinner.

i was fairly proud of myself over the weekend apart from last night when i was watching tv and decided to have some chocolate!!!! but i only had a few pieces. i am planning on going home tonight and throwing the rest out so that there is no temptation!!

i will weigh in on Wednesday and see how it is going!!

Day 6, Mountain West USA, NFD, WITHIN TDEE.

    Sorry Coda,

Didn’t read the first post well enough. Yes, I will try and log in each day. Looking forward.

    November 6 – Los Angeles – FD
This is my second fast day on the diet. It went well. I still have a few calories left. I haven’t been able to fast straight through the day so I’ve had a number of very small meals. Still feeling hungry but it’s hearing your stories that gives me the courage to continue.

    Thanks to you all!
    MB

Day 7, NZ, NFD (was meant to be FD!)
Apologies, I see my post yesterday doesn’t appear to have submitted – had big electrical storm – may have something to do with it??
Bad food day today – feeling very “flat” (spirits only – not my tummy unfortunately!!) & judging by the couple of “youth spots” (pimples) threatening on my face, I’m thinking T.O.M is about to hit.
Just need to get over it & not let today’s bad food choices drag on for the entire week like previous – don’t want to ruin the past month’s loss (which would only take me a couple of days the way I’m going at the moment!).
Back on track tomorrow, it will only take 1 FD to get my motivation going again.

    Take care all. Xxx

    Day 7 Italy – FD
I got this, I have loads of little jobs planned for today. Salad in the fridge, dinner planned for my OH (I’m cooking him lamb, which I don’t particularly enjoy, to avoid temptation….win,win!). And yesterday I bought some lovely products to give myself a pedicure tonight, so I can keep busy later on as well, instead of looking for something to eat.
    I CAN DO THIS!!!!

Day 7, FD, New Zealand. A really good fast day for me today. Only the odd tummy rumble mid-morning at work, which I quietened with jasmine tea, and then before I knew it, it was 5pm and time to head home. Just cooked a delicious Japanese beef noodle salad (to any Kiwis on here – I highly recommend Nadia Lim’s Fresh Start cookbook. It has calorie amounts next to very recipe, and so far everything I have made has been so tasty). Terrible weather, so no walking outside for me, but I did manage to climb 32 floors over the course of the day – I work in a high-rise office block and avoid the lifts.

I checked the posts this morning and one that stuck with me throughout the day, especially when my colleague was eating pizza, was HappyMargo’s “I work my Will Power muscles”. That’s a great way to think about it. Yesterday I worked my arm muscles, pulling out the weeds from the garden. This morning I worked my leg muscles walking up 16 flights of stairs. And today I worked my will power muscles every now and then as I successfully completed another 5:2.

Still Day 6: Pacific NW USA, NFD, 2 meals, big salad tonight with tuna, sprinkling of nuts and avocado ending with dark chocolate squares. I actually feel full and look forward to the ease of not eating tomorrow!

BiddieV – you only missed one day (6), you’re back, still good!

Hannah – ooh, puppies, they’ll keep you busy, what breed?

Mikebridge – I have you added to our list of challengers! We’ll be looking forward to hearing from you daily in a November!

Time4me – I logged you in for Day 6 & 7, “through snow and sleet and electrical storm we carry on . . !”

Holly – I know you can work your will power muscles like LEW and HappyMargo!

Day 7 – FD- New Forest, UK

Have been feeling rather bloated last couple of days. Stepped on the scales for the first time this morning, but I had already worked out what the result was going to be before the numbers flashed up. Not a single number has changed. Will give it another go this week and hope that the numbers change next week.

This was my first week trying this, so guessing I got something wrong? although I do bloat once a month, so maybe next weeks numbers will look much better.

Feel a bit disheartened. I definitely stuck to the two fasting days, as best as I could, although on day two, whilst cooking the kids tea, I did catch myself put a piece of pasta into my mouth to test if it was cooked or not!!

Maybe I need to be concentrating a bit more on what I eat the rest of the week on my NFD days?

    Day 7 | Derbyshire UK | NFD

    Day 7 – Staffordshire, UK – NFD

After yesterday’s run I ate everything in the house, or that’s how it felt! Nevermind today’s a new day.

    Day 7 Portugal FD
So yesterday’s FD wasn’t quite a FD due to a last minute going out for lunch with friends. But I managed to eat around 800 calories total so not a complete waste. I am trying a.proper FD today. About to do 30 minute exercise with fitness blender,
@ b2tf yes, so good we can turn the page, move on and begin a new week!
@coda we are from north coast but also have lived in co down and Belfast. Been living overseas for about 16 years in Brazil and Portugal. Where are u from?

    Day 7 London UK FD

Travelling home from a long weekend break in Barcelona so seems like a good opportunity to fast today. Lots of black coffee and will see what the scales say in the morning but have skipped breakfast most days for 16:8 so I think it might be less gain then expected. In any case I know it’ll be gone again in a day or so.

    Day 7 UK FD

Happy to be fasting. Overid it at the weekend including chocolate. Absolutely no reason! After a 3lb loss last week. I am so annoyed with myself. Good luck everyone.

    Day 7, Australia FD

Did my normal workout this morning and vinyasa yoga too, so feeling like I am getting off to a good start today. Hope to keep it going.

    Day 7, Gozo, Malta, FD

Today I weighed at 63.8 kilos. Up by 0.3 kilos from yesterday. Today is a fast day for me.

Onwards and downwards. Happy Monday everyone.

    Day7 England NFD
Meeting a friend for dog walking and lunch at Gloucester Quays. I very rarely go to restaurants now. Need to choose carefully from the menu.

    Day 7, London.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

For me, today must be a FD, after a somewhat indulgent weekend.

Plan- white Americano in the morning, green tea during the day, miso soup for lunch and in the evening- a small portion of some of the food that I prepped yesterday- roast sweet potato, broccoli and barley salad and leek stew (i.e., I prepped stuff to have ready and avoid daft food choices in the next couple of days. That’s the theory, anyway).

    Day 7 – London, UK – FD

Well the Birthday weekend is well and truly over, it was lovely though!! Didn’t get too carried away food wise but did have way too much wine, feeling the effects of that this morning…ugh!!

Happy with today being FD, get me right back on track, feeling positive!! Have a great day everyone!!

    Day 7: Dublin FD
Like others here looking forward to a FD- yesterday’s NFD enticed me into thinking I could go overboard and ate double sized portion at dinner for no reason! Ugh. I feel comforted in the fact that fellow challengers have found the same difficulty on NFD days. The more I think about it the more I realise how much I reward myself with food or enjoy food as a form of entertainment when I’m bored or have low energy – think this is the core issue for me. Need to get back to thinking of food as fuel – not reward or entertainment. Not easy when our culture pushes so much food at us via media, advertising etc!

    Day 7: London FD
Hi, hope its ok for me to join. Today is my 2nd fast day as I did last Monday as well. I will be trying to do 5:2 (maybe 4:3 after a couple of weeks).

I need to lose 10kg so hoping to have lost a fair proportion of this before Christmas!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Day 7 Surrey UK NFD as was yesterday. Apologies for not posting yesterday, we went out early and didn’t get back till late and I was exhausted! It was a reasonable day, had tea, toast, grilled tomatoes and poched eggs for brekkie, and then had nothing till we got home, then had thick vegetable soup and (not a good choice) half a packet of crisps, and wine. Need I say I slept like a baby! Have a good week everyone, hope we all stay strong.

UK day 7 FD Been hovering for a while , so aiming to be super good and go for a 500> day today , be nice to see some movement on the scales !Caught up on all the posts – as usual lots of great advice .

Coda -loved catching up on the rugby wow what an Irish performance ! We are a big rugby family and already have our Ireland Italy tickets for the 6nations in Rome in February , the thought of buying some new skinny jeans for the trip is one of my motivators

Have a great week all x

Two for the price of one due to slack Sunday πŸ™‚

    Day 6 – NSW Aust – NFD
Pretty good day, did a naughty and had a beer, pizza and dessert in the evening. On the plus side, they were really nice πŸ™‚

    Day 7 – FD
Used yesterday’s feeding as an excuse not to eat early, so managed to eat at lunch. Did a 6km run in the am, which was fine, but the 10km in the pm – I had nothing in the tank. Wasn’t hungry at dinner but ate something anyway, and now I’m feeling shattered and heading for bed!

Day 7 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

The stress eating steam train seems to have a life of its own, even now that the big stress triggers have been resolved. I realize that it would be healing for me to find alternative stress address techniques to my ‘go to’ reaction of over eating. Even though I emotionally over eat on relatively healthy food (nuts, full fat Greek yogurt, coconut products, tahini fat bombs, etc), too many calories even of healthy food (low carb/high fat) contribute to weight gain, especially since I’m not able to exercise. The best thing I can do is to keep doing the good things. Doing ‘good’ things even when I’m emotionally overeating goes far in helping me drop the blame and halts self loathing in its tracks, which in turn allows me to more easily drop the less optimal coping method of over eating. …Tomorrow is a FD which always brings more sanity into my life. FDs are a very good thing!
