I really like the way you put that eating nothing is easier than eating less
It’s about the most perfect way to describe my NFD difficulties I can think of & ive never thought of it that way.
This so why the forum works so well, I feel so much less alone in my struggles with food. You all really understand the problems I face because you all have the same issues.

    Day 5 – Switzerland – NFD
Wow, so many posts. Strength and determination to everyone fasting at the weekend. Will catch up tomorrow!

    Day 5 – UK – FD

Lots of running around today so having a FD was ok

    Day 5 USA FD
Sore throat is so bad I have trouble even swallowing water. Yesterday turned into a fast day and most likely tomorrow too.

    Day 5: NFD : Melbourne

    Day 5 Fla FD
    Second post..

Well, it’s nearly dinner time and I survived my first Sat. fast. Several times, I thought what the heck but my resolve was strong. I fast until 2pm and broke it with egg on toast. Tonight’s plan for dinner roasted chicken with salad.

My youngest felt he did well on his SATs this am; but he did come home a bit on the grouchy side. Ugg! He’s such a bear when he’s grouchy! He’s out with friends now, so hopefully he comes home more like my gentle soul, he normally is. He does extremely well in his studies and these test can determine if he’s going to be heading to community college or to a Univesity of his choosing. He’s been working on getting into a Univesity since kindergarten.
Back story, if you don’t mind…. my baby was born at 32 weeks, had a rough start to life. Doctors gave him a less than stellar out come for his future. They thought, his mind function would never be that of others his age. His speech would be difficult at best to understand. He didnt learn balance and cord inaction until was a little over 2, potty trained at 3, said his first words at 4, read a high school novel at 5, tested gifted at 6. Doctors and therapist didn’t think he was absorbing, but he was a little sponge. He learned to read before he was verbal, learned math before he could tie his own shoes! Oh I could go on and on…..
But…. he overcame, every single day of his life.
DH is feeling a bit better than this morning. I think he’s coming to terms!
Thank you for allowing me to ramble, especially about my baby.
I hope you all have a great night!
    Michelle

Hi just me again where is Action when you want to crow about something! Nothing much – except Ireland beat the AB’s in Chicago tonight for the first time ever and ended an 18 match unbeaten run for the Ab’s. WOW!!!

Day 6, country West Australia NFD
Good morning good morning! Been awake since 5.00am on this glorious sunny morning.
Well I survived yesterday being surrounded by food near all day.
I probably ate in excess of my 1600 TDEE but thanks to all you lovely people scattered around the globe I thought about what I ate and definitely ate a lot less than I normally would on this day.
I did NOT eat the scones ( biscuits in America I think? ) jam and cream for morning tea, making do with a cup of tea.
I did NOT eat the chocolate fudge, cakes and biscuits ( cookies) sitting on the table next to me.
I DID have a small hamburger with fresh salad – carrots, tomato and lettuce.
I DID have a small bowl of freshly made fruit salad. We are so lucky that the fruit is lovely and tasty at the moment.
Then last night I made a roast lamb with roast vegetables and all the trimmings with homemade apple strudel ,cream and ice-cream for dinner. Knowing I had this community to keep me on track I ate off an entree plate and had a very small serve of everything, probably half or a third of what I would normally have.
For me that is one of the many benefits of this group – it helps keep me on track. So on a NFD which could have blown everything out of the water food wise, I managed to eat well but eat sensibly.
Once my visitors go I plan a FD tomorrow.
Condolences to Cathy and Bert. I only got to read all the posts last night. And Bert you should be very proud of your young man , hope all goes well.
Have a stellar Sunday. It’s good to be alive.πŸ™‚

Still Day 5: Pacific NW USA, NFD going well with a planned healthy 3 meals today.

Coda – guess it’s like I’ve heard, it does take leather balls to play Rugby πŸ‰! Congrats Ireland and guess it’s apropos it happened in Chicago where they are all ready for parties! Sorry NZ. (We haven’t had any action from Action lately, have we!)

Alanix – happy birthday! To help me with my data base could you please use the date of the month when you log in, November 5 = Day 5 of this challenge.

Twinmom it does sound exciting. I was starting to get worried that we hadn’t heard from you in a couple of days.

Cathyh46 – good luck next week!

Pissupoussa – took your advise and bought Fung’s new book today. I’ve just skimmed it but I am very proud of us who have found our way to many of the recommendations from his panel of experts.

Lany36 – one of the ideas in the book that I will test on my NFD “hunting and gathering” forays is to read a note I now have on my fridge with my name in big red letters that says “Try One of These Instead”: drink water, walk, start a load of laundry, drink water, stretch, call Mom, put on some music, drink water, smell spices, heat up the neck wrap, make some tea. I’ll let you know if it helps!

Bert – hope this upward swing continues for you and yours!

lilymartin – great going and good on you!

Day 6 Sunshine Coast Australia FD : Will now go out and mow those 5 acres. Have already done this post once and forgot to submit it. Will not have time for eating whilst mowing and it is a hot one out there so will takes lots of water. Bye for now.

    Day 5; Toronto; NFD

DH’s birthday today, had a lovely meal and a piece of chocolate cake with coconut whipped cream. Delicious of course, but I’m proud to say I had a much smaller piece than I would have had in the past. Yay! Plus, even though it’s an NFD, I find I’m planning ahead. If I know I’m having a higher calorie dinner, then I eat very little for breakfast and lunch. Today I had a banana and a cup of tea for breakfast, and for lunch it was 5 rice cakes spread with no-oil homemade hummus and an apple.

It’s as if the fast days are teaching me to be more mindful on the non-fast days. It’s my observation after following 5:2 for nearly 3 weeks. I’ve noticed my clothes are a bit looser too. Yay! Wishing everyone a fab day.

    Day 5– Colorado, USA– NFD

Did well today food-wise. Stayed to TDEE. Healthy choices including some homemade soups & sushi.

Only problem area: Leftover Halloween Candy! Grrr!!!

I have no control around the Skittles & Starbursts. Time to bag up all the leftover sweets & put them into DH’s car. That way they are “gone” from our house & he can stock up the candy jar in his office for customers & clients. A win-win!

    Day 5|NFD|Toronto
Disaster of a day from a caloric point of view, wonderful day in all others ways.

    Day 5, NFD, Canada
Isn’t it interesting that some of you on the other side of the world are already starting day 6, while I am reporting my day 5-so fun to think of all my Challenge buddies facing the same experiences all round the world.
I woke up this morning feeling weak, sweaty and shaky, maybe Keto flu? Took about 3 hours of drinking salty broth and diluted juice before I felt normal again. I was determined not to eat til lunch time in an effort to keep below my Tdee with 2 decent sized meals and I managed to do so. ANYONE else had a shaky episode like this?

    2nd post today,
Cathy,Bert, and Norrie my condolences on your losses. Cathy I’ll be sending some positive thoughts your way to help you get through the next few days at the hospital. Hope all goes well.
Miesque such great news about the IBS!!
Twinmom, you must be either from the Okanagan or Niagara -what is wine crush?

    November 5 – NFD – NC, USA

Almost forgot to post! Today was pretty easy. The only hard part was working out today. I haven’t ran in about 3 weeks because of work and traveling/on the go all of the time. So today was my first day able to run and work out! I ran 2 miles, after which I realized my lungs needed to get accustomed to the 60Β° weather we are having, and even lower around the corner! I don’t now if anyone else has that problem, but my lungs feel like they aren’t taking in oxygen as well when I run in colder temps! Anyway, then I went to the gym and did shoulder and arm workouts.

My food today was Kashi Autumn something wheat cereal with almond milk and a banana, then 2 pieces of toast and an egg for lunch, tomatoes and cucumbers with rice vinegar as a snack, some pretzel twists, and for dinner, a baked potato (plain) with turnip greens and cabbage! I think I equal out to about 12-1400, both of which are very below my TDEE. So I’m happy with today! Didn’t even snack after dinner. Also I bought groceries for the week πŸ™‚ veggie sandwiches for lunch and vegetable/turkey soup for dinner! I was thinking today, fasting probably even cuts down on grocery costs!

I know what I’m eating tomorrow already and my workout plan is set. Looking forward to it (unlike the thousands of loads of laundry I have). Good job everyone!! πŸ™‚

    Day 6 – Switzerland – FD
Ate more than I’d anticipated last night, due to a change in plan about dinner. I will sit down and work out exactly how much so I stay accountable to myself.
Fitting in an extra FD today because I feel like it. Also it might remedy some of yesterday’s overeating- plus I have an invite to tea and cake on Monday and don’t want to be the one turning everything down.
Caught up with posts and want to add my sympathies to Cathy, Michelle and Norrie. I hope you can take some strength and support from all the positive vibes coming at you from across the forum πŸ’

    Day 6, NFD, New Zealand.
Stayed within my TDEE, and although I didn’t do anywhere near 10,000 steps, I have spent about seven hours over this weekend gardening, so happy with both energy in and energy out! Monday and Wednesday will be my FDs, and I’ve planned all my meals through to Thursday night. Like many people here, I’ve found it harder to eat within TDEE than to fast, so planning helps me so much.

Day 6 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

In it to thin it, I’ve had times of feeling weak, sweaty and shaky as you’ve described, which for me is because I have a history of adrenal insufficiency, so my episodes have been related the inability to produce enough adrenal hormones (cortisol + aldosterone) in response to the stress of fasting. I’ve experienced what you described when I’ve overdone it, such as the one time I tried 4:3. I also do better leaving 2 NFDs between FDs, again because I’m susceptible to developing those symptoms. My adrenal weakness is related to my thyroid issues. It is not uncommon for those with Hashimotos to develop secondary adrenal issues. Hope your episode was instead a result of herxing from detox and that you never have to wake up feeling that way again!

    Day 6 | Derbyshire UK | NFD

Days 5 NFD & Day 6 FD Portugal
All in all a disastrous week. I knew it would be difficult. Kids off school, eating out, away for anniversary celebration…buy hey a new week begins. Trying to kickstart with a FD today.
@coda my husband is a huge fan of Irish rugby (we’re from NI) and delighted with yesterday’s result!

    Day 6 New Zealand NFD

    Day 6 – Staffordshire,UK – NFD

Been for a run this morning, first time in 2 weeks so it hurt, but feeling better for doing it. Started running last year doing C25K (couch to 5k) but my new job has made finding time for running tricky. I suspect it will be easier when the nights are lighter.

Perth, West. Australia, Day 6, NFD

Blew it big time yesterday. Today is a new day though.
I went out for lunch for my Dad’s birthday. I had half my serving, stuck to a glass of wine, and only one little square of cake. Tonight I will have veggies and an egg and that should have me within TDEE, or close to T at least.

Will probably fast on Wed, I don’t really want to fast on the days I have exams.

Hoping I get through the next two weeks without jeopardising my good work this far!

Day 6: Gloucestershire, UK: Non-fast day.
Two pounds UP from my precious goal weight so hard-won….so I MUST fit in a fast day tomorrow. I just MUST…

    Day 6 | UK | NFD
Baygirl huge good luck with your exams! I think you’re really wise to not fast on the days you have them. I usually feel really good on a fast day but I must admit that i spend a huge amount of mental energy focusing on keeping to my calorie limit. That brain power needs to be really honed into your exams! I’m sure you won’t undo any of the progress you’ve already made. What are you studying for? πŸ€πŸ€

    Post 2

@diggly – studying B.Sc (Nursing). Midlife career change. This is my first year. Not quite as easy at this age, but I generally love it. Thanks for the encouragement πŸ™‚

    Day 6, Australia NFD

Fd tomorrow, keen to have a great week. Goal is with nfd eating. I am putting it down here so I can be accountable, no bread or processed food this week. I’ll say until Saturday but hoping to do the weekend too, just want to make small achievable goals though. Have been struggling and making poor food choices, so hoping I will be feeling great by the end of the week. Need to tighten up a bit.

Hi all day 6 nfd uk

@erika55 where in ni are you from? Think the result has been on every news channel round the world. This result will set Ireland up for a good 6 nations – I hope!

Have started reading the complete book to fasting and something jumped out at me at the begining. Jimmy Moore started a 21 day fast but ended it on day 17 but at no time i noticed did he say he failed (the f word that is now banned on this thread). He said it was no big deal to break it when it became obvious the time had come to stop. He put the need to stop down to stress he gets when travelling. CIREN I was thinking of you when I read this. I think you are putting a lot of stress on yourself and if you don’t reach your expectations this adds more stress. try to look at ways to lower stress especially as royal mail will only get busier in the days to come. Your fast days will come back, you have done so well to reach goal just don’t force it. It will happen when you take the pressure off x

    Day 6 UK NFD

Day 6 : Perth, Australia NFD

    Day 6 NFD Brisbane Australia
Another good day food wise although need to start exercising. Hard to get motivated when we have had to two hot days at 35 oC. Reading how everyone else is making an effort to do some exercise is helping. Maybe tomorrow is the start day for exercise? You never know.

    D6 Melbourne, Australia FD.

Good FD after yesterday’s slightly excessive NFD. Tonight made pizza with cauliflower pizza base after being inspired by reading Dr Fung’s new book. Not bad at all and felt quite satisfied.
Thoughts and prayers to all those here experiencing sadness, loss and life’s challenges. X

Hi, starting tomorrow for my first fast day so reading madly for any tips. Think the biggest challenge is going to be mental not hunger. Will weigh weekly and post. Thanks for the forum don’t think I could do it without a support network.

    Day 6 – Georgia, US – NFD

    Day 6…… Florida….. NFD

Thank you everyone for your kind words!

FD went well yesterday. Took a quick peek at the scales, they are still moving in the right direction.
NFD….. kind of but kinda not looking forward to it. Have to see how it goes!

    Have a great day!
    Michelle

    Day 6 : UK : NFD

    Day 6 London UK NFD

Day 6, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Non Fasting

Hello all, great day yesterday. Ate well, drank well, exercised a lot.

Busy day today, church this morning, catching up around here before I go back to work tomorrow, church this evening.

    Enjoy your day all.

    Day 6,NFD, Canada
Hi Lael, had to look up Herxing as that term is a new one for me. Hypokalemia probably best fits my symptoms as I increased water intake to 3L and decreased fruit intake. But as a precaution will get my thyroid and cortisol levels checked. Good news is that I feel fine this morning, but will take your advice to leave 2 days between fast days from now on- thanks.

    Day 6 USA – NFD

Probably overrate yesterday, but the movie popcorn at “Trolls” with the granddaughters was really tasty. Then we went out for pizza, but I only had 1 piece with a small salad. Hmm, just noticed I have two “buts” as my excuses. Will try to do better today, but it was a fun day.

Bert – your son sounds like a terrific guy. I bet he will go far no matter which collegiate choice he makes.

    Onward and downward!

    Day 6 – London, UK – NFD

Sorry B2F I started last Monday so that’s why I was logging in as such, I will
    co-ordinate from now on.

Sincere condolences to Cathy and family for your tragic loss, so sad!

Thank you for the birthday wishes, much appreciated, I really had a lovely time and don’t feel I overdid it too much but back on track tomorrow with a FD.

    Enjoy your Sunday everyone!!

    Day6 England NFD
Nearly forgot to check in. Disappointing weigh in this morning – I seem to have put back on most of what I’ve apparently lost. Yesterday was a very respectable NFD, no indulgences, so I wasn’t prepared for the nasty number this morning. Yes I know about daily fluctuations but it doesn’t help!
What made it worse was I’d been to a fireworks display last night, involving a 3 mile walk which is more exercise than I usually do so I felt really hard done by!
Still free from IBS symptoms. It’s been exactly one week since I was last ill. Thank you to everyone for your positive comments.
    Namaste

Day 6. Florida USA NFD good Saturday had a great yoga class went for a short walk – setting up today for my Monday Tuesday back to back fast days. Stayed under mt tdee and feel healthier than I have in a very long time. Maybe this is helping ny liver problem.

Mumsy63. Would love to try the cauliflower pizza crust – will look online for a recipe. Have a good day everyone.

    Day 6 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Yesterday was a lovely sunny but cold day – was great to get out and enjoyed a lovely walk in our Cumbrian Fells – this was followed by a very welcomed cup of tea and a fruit scone – absolutely yummy (had no breakfast or lunch so no guilty feelings!) Salad and broccoli/brie quiche for dinner with a glass of red – a most enjoyable NFD
A drizzly Sunday today so decided to fast for the day as was not feeling hungry when I woke up – spend some time catching up with housework. Now looking forward to going to see a recording of THE BRIGHT STREAM by the Bolshoi Ballet this afternoon with a group of friends and will then enjoy a crab pasta dinner with the other half when I get back home

@S1u2s3 – well done on the weight loss this week
@pissupoosa – thank you for your best wishes – I do hope that we have many more years together

Planning on 3 x FD this week – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday fits in nicely – wish me luck.

It is strange how a lot of us cope well with our FD but struggle on NFD……..
Best wishes to all for this 2nd week of our 30 Day-November 2016-Challenge

    Day 6 Dublin NFD

Greetings everyone – and thanks Chicago for the good luck charm for the Irish rugby team. Everyone here delighted. Sorry though to the kiwis out there though – no doubt all blacks will be back to a long winning streak again now. Nice morning walk, taking rest day from gym. Healthy food options and keeping warm from the cold. Off to mass then will build a nice fire and relax with some wild mushroom taglierini and a glass of red. Hope everyone is well!!

    Day 6 Italy – NFD
Late night last night after surprise dinner out. Today went to a shopping center, I hate them and now have the usual stinky headache that I get after going there. Going for a quick walk to clear my head then housework. Would like to go to bed early tonight and have a real good Fast Day tomorrow.

    Day 6 | UK | NFD
Baygirl, good for you. I had a career change 12/13 years ago and went from chartered accountant to primary school teacher. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done! Hard hard work but job satisfaction isn’t always measured by the size of your pay cheque! I’m sure your exams will see you stepping onto the next level. Adjusting to student life can be difficult, but if you have loving friends and family around you, you’ll be fine. My sons lived every step of the way with me and they’re very proud of what I have achieved. I missed a few of their milestones due to exams and assignment deadlines but they have never held that against me! Go for it you’ll be so glad that all your hard work pays off. πŸ˜€

    Day 6, Gozo, Malta, NFD

After the wedding yesterday I my weight didn’t creep up I’m still at target of 63.5 kilos. I didn’t during alcohol and stayed drinking bitter lemon. Also only ate one sweet as we lefbefore the end of it. I enjoyed the food though. I don’t drink alcohol in the evening as I take some cholesterol pills before I sleep and in order to consume alcohol I need to take it a couple of hours before I take them.

Today I had two of my daughters together with their husbands and children for lunch and I ad a three course meal ready. I also drunk a glass of white sparkling wine together with five double salmon canapΓ©s I made for a starter and which were delicious.

This evening I’ll just have a banana so as not to get over my TDEE too much. Tomorrow is another day and a fast day for me.

    Good day/evening everyone.

    Day 6– Colorado, USA– NFD

One of my favorite things about 5:2 is how the good habits reach beyond the Fast Day.

My Fast Days seem to teach me patience & discipline. I work my Will Power muscles. I realize it takes much less to fill me up & that it’s okay to be patient. Waiting a few more hours for dinner won’t kill me. πŸ™‚

Making strides toward my goals & getting healthier along the way are other fantastic bonuses of 5:2.
I’m very grateful that I have found this WOL. And it’s lovely reading others’ stories from around the world too.
    Thank you all for sharing!!
