Day 11 – Cumbria UK – NFD/CD
I have still to break my fast from yesterday – not feeling particularly hungry as yet so will see how this day pans out – going to see the ballet “Jewels” live telecast from the ROH this evening with a group of like minded friends – that will good distraction.
Thank you for your kind thoughts and cyber hugs @annemarilyn @okeydokey @hannahwatto @songbirdme @Strawberriesandcream @obesa @debster251 @chumi @jennferb @and… exhale @bert1802 @snowflake56 – the saddest part is that I now live 5.5hrs drive away and I made the most difficult phone call to her this morning – a very close mutual friend had rang me yesterday at my friend’s request to tell me the news as she felt unable to call herself……I just so wish I lived closer – the three of us are such close friends, we met through our work and have remained good friends. I moved up to Cumbria 3 years ago but we keep in touch and visit as much as we can……..I was planning on going down south for a visit to celebrate the other friend’s birthday so we will still do this but maybe in a less extravagant way all depending on how she is feeling with the treatment she is about to start undergoing…….Having your cyber support has meant a lot to me – THANK YOU
There has been some rather funny exchanges on the forum of late all making me smile and grateful for our cyber community – @flourbaby @fatrabbit and @steve-toon-taxi-driver posts in particular come to mind…….not forgetting @obesa and her gardening antics!
@snowflake56 – how is the S-problem and weak hand? hope some improvements slowly but surely x
@bert1802 – nice to hear that you are back on board and broken than dreaded plateau – go you!
@therealwil78 – nice to see you joining us again – I had wondered where you had got to!
Welcome to those who have recently joined us – never too late…….@tillysmum @rosa86 @sweiss52 @blueberrybrain @walkingthedog – there is great global support on this forum, yes it does get a bit busy but there is always someone who will pick up on any queries or give some advice and support TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER
I’m off to the hairdresser now so will try and catch up a bit more later!
Day 11 – Belfast – FD
Hi all, getting through my FD. It’s a bit of a busier day in work so that’s really helping me forget about my hunger pangs. They do seem to come in waves though, and usually wash away after a little while. This is where I previously failed on the 5:2, as I would have caved in. Checking in to this forum has defo been a great help.
@steve toon taxi driver I found The Fast Diet book very informative before I did the 5:2 diet the first time(a few years ago). Dr Mosley explains what he believes the health benefits of fasting are, not just the weight loss. Quite interesting and handy to dip into now and then for extra encouragement.Good luck all FD-ers today!
Day 11 – USA – NFD
@at, sorry to hear the news about your friend…cyberhugs to you!
Just sent this by a college interesting reading it may have been posted before. Not that I’ve got diabetes but it does give some hope for those who have it.

Nice to see a lot of studies conducted in the back waters of the Toon ( local nickname for Newcastle upon Tyne ) maybe I should do a Geordie word of the week to help educate you on our wonderful dialect lol.

Day 11 Maine FD
Good morning all – lovely NFD yesterday in Boston w/my 2 best friends from high school days – long time ago! Very controlled day…pleased about that. One of those friends – the skinny one who never battled weight issues – was the one who introduced me to the 5/2 a few years ago. (Wish I had started then!) She & her likewise skinny ski instructor husband have been doing this for years for health reasons. They fast on mondays – weigh on Weds & if up a few pounds, fast on thurs. They’re beer swigging, bread making & eating fiends, but feel this is the best way to keep their health at its best. I thanked her for informing me of 5/2 & she thanked me for giving it a shot – she said most people think she & her husband are “extremists”! It truly is a WOL for them! She wonders why it hasn’t really caught on in the States. I told her about this forum & that there are a few of us.
Last day of my winter sabbatical & it is beautiful here – sunny & warm – truly a gift to me! Tomorrow rain predicted. Did stop by hotel last week – everyone complimentary about my weight loss which was nice to hear. Hopefully, this change will translate to more energy – you know I’ll let you all know!!
Off for my therapy walk – cannot wait to get outside! Again, thank you all for helping to make this winter sabbatical the most productive I’ve had! To paraphrase a motivation from @at: proud of what I’ve accomplished & confident I can continue….something like that!
@at – big hugs…wish I could quote something to make you & your friend feel better as you have helped all of us immensely!
Make it a fabulous day everybody!
Day 11 – USA (Utah visiting) – NFD
Had a great FD yesterday, just about 450 calories I believe. Had a good Greek salad for supper at a local Gyros place so no telling how many calories were in it. Going to the gym this morning for Silver Sneakers class, so will weigh there.
TTFN – helping granddaughters get ready for school.
Onward and downward!
Day 11: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD.
Oh THANK YOU @okeydokey for accepting my 25 hours as a FAST DAY on Day 10….it makes me feel better about myself.
Also THANK YOU @fatrabbit for your encouragement. You are right, success breeds success. I will try to repeat tomorrow, or even….DO BETTER.
Have a good day all. xx
Day 11, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD
Hello all, busy day at work, back to back clients – but hope to get a chance to catch up on the thread a bit later. Wishing you all well.
Staying below goal weight at 145, actually quite surprised as we have done a bit of family celebrating the past week. Hopefully the exercise is helping to balance out the food. I have been mindful while eating, it just seems natural now to cut up a crisp green pepper and eat it as opposed to a piece of fudge marble cake.

Day 11 FD St. Louis USA
Doing my second fast day in a row but this one is an 800 cal. Did it last week and was quite successful. I have a lunch meeting today in a Mexican restaurant so trying to decide whether to eat at all while I’m there. I’ve gotten in the habit of checking the menus and nutrition when I eat out. It’s quite enlightening and seems to discourage over eating. I didn’t see a pocket list for today but might have missed it. Scanning through the posts but need to get out the door to work.
@at I also wanted to express my support to you with your friends illness. I have come to believe that grief and sadness at the loss of people who are important to us is the thing that makes us most human. We have a choice to love and love deeply or to avoid contact. I try to choose love. It sounds as if you have had that with your friend.
Best of luck to all of us today fasters and non-fasters alike
2nd post 🌈
Just popping in and find I’ve been put into a pocket group, ok @flourbaby u are on! TWTh B2B2B. 😃
I need it! Stressful time at work and find I am rooting around looking for anything I’m allowed to eat, gave up chocolate, crisps and sweets for Lent. Willpower drawer still intact. Chewing gum rapidly being chewed! Already had my 500 cals today but working second job tonight so will be busy and keep me not eating.
Good luck x

Day 11 California FD, I realized I’ve missed checking in for a few days. Stressful times. Daughter lost her apartment, very difficult to find an affordable new one around here. Longtime friend’s daughter found dead after 5 days. No apparent cause, so sad. Back hurting. Anyway fasting was forgotten, but
heard more positive news affirming the value of intermittent fasting for health and weight loss, so I’m trying today. Just 9 am here so a few hours to go
Hi all UK Co Down day 11 FD
Just checking in and just saw a few posts
@at thinking of you – hugs, no words can make it better, a difficult and sad time, more hugs x
Day 11 London NFD
@at – so sorry to hear of your friend, I wish her all the best. Good to hear that you will be spending some quality time with her soon. My prayers are with her. There is some research on the affects of intermittent fasting on cancer (and also the restriction of refined sugars) may be worth having a look?
Day 11- Montreal- NFD
The house guests left last night, so things are getting back to normal here. I stayed mindful (ish) while they were here , just drinking slightly more than usual. Yesterday’s fast day went well, and I’ll do two more this week (wed & fri) to try and get below the 80 kg plateau where I’ve been hovering for a couple of weeks.
Day 11–MA, USA–FD. I was thinking that today would be a NFD, and hoped to have nice dinner out, but it looks like plans have changed. So, I’m going to try to make today a FD and make tomorrow the NFD. Feeling very hungry, but so far have only had coffee and water. Hopefully I can make it through the challenging evening hours!
Day 11, Rocky Mountains, US, FD, 2nd of 5 B2B
@at: so sorry to hear about your friend! 😢😢😢
Have a good day everyone! I am enjoying reading your posts very much! 😊😊😊
2nd post
Thanks @dykask and @bert1802 for the suggestions that the slow healing bruises and scratches could be due to zinc or iron deficiency. I had a search and found out more but I doubt that is it as I eat so much green veg and legumes which are good sources of both. Maybe I have just been bumping into things more often. The bruises are at walking into the corners of things height. And really it is only one scratch on my foot that isn’t healing and perhaps that is because of my shoe. I have a couple on my arms but they are from the grooming I did on Saturday, not very long ago. Lots of scars though. Rabbits have sharp claws and no inhibitions about using them. I am going to try and eat afew more nuts and seeds though as they are good sources of all sorts of things. I added some chia seeds to the dinner today. Red cabbage, parsnips, samphire and onion with ginger, red pepper, chili and chia seeds plus asparagus, wild mushrooms, fine beans, onion and portabello mushrooms on cauliflower rice. Yum. Lots of nutrients in that lot. That was my first attempt at cauliflower rice or couscous or what ever and I really liked it. I chopped the cauliflower up quite small and gently fried it in a saucepan with a little olive oil a bit of onion and a red pepper on a low flame with the lid on. Added sea salt and a few mustard and chia seeds too. Much nicer than rice or couscous. Earlier I thought I was having a big oops when I succumbed to the rest of the piece of rye bread that I attacked last night. I made an inside out sandwich with two pieces of edam cheese that my son had left open and that were drying out. I couldn’t let them go to waste could I? It was a wonderful change. I haven’t eaten bread for months. I had visions of eating the entire loaf and the entire package of cheese but after that I was entirely full and didn’t want more. It was 200 calories so I just had a mug of marmite with seaweed to make it my first meal. (Marmite is a yeast extract and is full of b vitamins.) That left enough calories left for a generous bowl of veg later. I am really full now. @dykask I think you are the one with will power I just couldn’t do a multi day fast. The only thing that gets me through the fasting hours is knowing that I can eat later and planning what to cook, well and the tea. I am sloshing most of the time. I bet if I were to jump up and down it would be audible. I used to do that to make people laugh when I was a child and drank lots of milk.
Day 11, Switzerland, FD
I think the most sensible thing for me to do now is to go to bed (before there’s a repeat performance of last night)
Yesterday evening I went overboard 😨 on a packet of vegetable crisps and 4!!!! Ferrero Rochers 🐽🐽 and a whole load of other stuff which I can’t even remember. Why oh why did I have to go and do that?? It’s a pattern I’m very familiar with: evening + sofa + tv = mindless snacking. I manage the days pretty well, but it’s the evenings that always see to get me. Does anyone else have personal experience of this? How can I keep this nocturnal troll at bay?
Night night for now 🌛
Day 11 – SW WA USA – NFD
Making it a 16:8 Glad the scale is moving back down after a bump up.
@mulville – so sorry for your friend losing her daughter; losing the young seems extra tragic. Good for you for still going for an FD.
@scs – interesting that your “skinny” friends introduced you to 5:2. I think one of the reasons it hasn’t caught on as much here in North America is the emphasis from the Diet folks on eating all day – the 3 meals and snacks; feeding yourself every 2 to 3 hours. I used to buy into that. It was my neighbor, who is beating back cancer with a combination of ketogenic diet plus fasting, that introduced it to me.
@therealwil78 – welcome back
@steve toon taxi driver – I agree with BelfastSink that the books are important. I first watched the youtube BBC video by Michael M & then read his Fast Diet: 5:2 and also bought the recipe book. Lots of great info.
HHQ – great that you’re figuring how to make the 5:2 work for you. It really is flexible and doable.
And…exhale – good for you with getting all those clothes out and off to charity. It’s a win…win.
Day 12 Australia FD I usually have my 2nd fast day on a Thursday but will take the office to the Easter Show tomorrow for a bit of team building and it is impossible to fast there. My NFD yesterday was very good; I was so tempted to buy a snack when I picked my glasses up but I just kept mentally talking to myself and was able to resist. I was then very tempted to have a drink when I got home as I was earlier than usual and so was the only one home, but again talked myself out of it and into a cup of tea. I used a dry mArinade on the pork ribs and grilled them so lost a lot of fat. They were delicious! I will have miso soup for lunch and homemade, fat-free, low carb vege stew for dinner.
@mulville, sending you hugs at this very sad time xx
Have a great day everyone.
Day11-UK-FD
Current weight 70kg
Goal weight 66kg
Thank you so much @okeydokey really excited to be on this journey! And thank you for the support 😃🙌
Day 12/NFD/Melbourne Australia
@at and @mulville. So, so sorry. Hugs
@fatrabbit Yum and wow. You must be positively glowing with good health. Adding more nuts and seeds is a great idea. You may find the following article on zinc and vegetarians from an Australian medical journal interesting https://www.mja.com.au/open/2012/1/2/zinc-and-vegetarian-diets It’s amazingly how our body adjust.
Onwards and downwards
Day 10, NFD, USA
Day 11, FD, USA
I posted this already and cannot find it now, so I apologize if it’s a duplicate. Warm day in Boston today which filled me with energy to do spring cleaning, despite the fasting. Kept pouring glasses and glasses of water and seltzer to keep it up. I was a little sloppy with a bite here and there, which we ALWAYS underestimate, so ended up with a salad at the end of the day to compensate. Anyone else dream of food on their FDs?
Day 12 Melbourne NFD
Usually FD but have Boss here all week with Big Project nearing the end and just too hard… Aussies and Kiwis: we have 3 short weeks in a row!!! Yippeee!
@fatrabbit – just thinking about the environment you work in and I’m guessing it’s quite interesting, bacterially. Manuka honey really will help the healing of cuts/abrasions (not bruising, I believe) but it should be a ‘good’ one, about 200+, from a pharmacy or health food shop. It’s nothing weird and oongy-boongy – quite scientific – I used a proper MH wound dressing post-surgery a few years ago. (Excellent for leg ulcers that haven’t responded to anything else, btw).
