  • Day 5, Belfast, NFD
My fast day went ok yesterday – being busier at work really does help. Went for a swim after work and just had a gentle 40 length session. Dinner was korean prawn pancake and dipping sauce (recipe in Guardian Recipes 5:2 readers swap). It was lush. I’m not particularly religious but I do like to try to give up something for lent. This year I’ve given up meat and chocolate, cakes, biscuits, crisps…all the usual culprits lol. I’m hoping that this new routine will continue after easter but I’m a sucker for bakery produce πŸ˜‰ Good luck everyone on a FD today

Day 5 (where do they go?)
    Melbourne – FD

    Day 5, Derbyshire UK
Fast day – my 4th so far. Yday was a NFD and after 2 poached eggs and 2 toast for breakfast I went most of the day without eating – just a coffee in the afternoon. Dinner was lamb cutlets roast potatoes and lots of veg. And a 🍷!!
    Have a good day everyone

    Day 4 – CARDIFF UK – NFD
    Day 5 – CARDIFF UK – FD

    Starting Weight : 160.8lbs

@okeydokey, starting weight for your spreadsheet is 160.8lb.

    Day 5 – UK – FD

Very pleased to have maintained 62.1kg this morning despite yesterday having been an NFD and a lot of food and drinks enjoyed!

Looking forward to checking in tomorrow after today’s FD with hopefully another loss!

    Day 5……Florida…… FD

Today, is going to be a challenging FD. After work today, the hubby and I are taking our youngest for one last fitting and pick up of his tux for prom. In a few short days, he’ll be 18, then a high school graduate and then heading off to the police academy.
They grow up to fast. Since we are going out right after work, it’s going to be dinner out. So, I’m going to try for a salad or order off the low calorie menu! Oh the challenges!

Thank you for the kind words about my kid. They will never understand, how much love I have for them. Many say I over love and protect them but growing up all though I knew I was loved, my sisters told me daily. I never received that love from my mom. In all actuality, I probably was never a priority for her. Knowing this, I vowed that my kids would never feel that hurt. So, when it comes to them, I am overly mushy!

Yesterday at work, I had a returning customer who commented on my weight loss and asked me what I did. Then another customer over heard me, so I was able to pass on my thoughts to them.
I’m mentioning this because I know we have some that our struggling. I explained that there are several variations of 5:2. In the beginning, that any participant should still only with fasting for the 2 days. Once they reach the calm as I call it. Which means understanding signals from your body, the ease of a fasting day. Once you become accustomed to this way of life, then you can adjust as needed. Add longer fasting windows or add another fasting day.
I honest believe the reason, many stumble on diets out there is because they are all or nothing type diets. You must do this or that, give up cold turkey this and this and this. If you haven’t done everything to the letter, you’ve screwed yourself.
Not with 5:2….. in 5:2, we take the diet out of the diet, so to speak. We take small steps to the achievable dream.
Sure, we could all jump in feet first into this WOL, but why would you when it’s set up to take the smallest steps to gain the biggest benefits. Remember the story about the tortoise and the hare. In the end, all though we all know the tortoise was the slowest, in the end he won!
Okay, my coffee cup is empty…. off to work I go!

Be classy, sassy and a bit bad assy today!

Day 5 (in the big brother house 😁) Newcastle UK NFD.
Busy day so far so first chance to post.
These fasting days are going really well, I think because I used to do the 8/16 diet for 6 months, I lost weight with it but over ate within the 8 hours of none fasting. With the 5/2 I don’t break the fast until 12 noon the next day and last food is usually 9pm before I start the fast the next day. building up the exercise steadily. Had a little indigestion yesterday putting it down to overloading my soup with pepper 😨.
Really enjoying reading everyone’s posts,it’s helping me stay focused and committed to the weight loss in April. This is the 5th sunny day in Newcastle so I’m off to check if that’s a new record. 😜 have a great day whatever your doing.

    Day 5-USA-FD (Start weight 218/Today’s weight 215)

    I am down to 215! How I lost 3 lbs. I don’t know, probably water weight. Yesterday I was 214.6 today 215.

Those two biscotti’s and some extra wafer chicken breast took me out of the 16:8 I had planned. So today will be the start of a B2B fast.

@belfastsink Where is this Guardian Recipes 5:2 readers swap? The Prawn pancake sounds tempting.

Keep up the good efforts everyone!

    @bert1802

I’m right in the middle of work, but read your message from start to finish when it popped into my email account just now. Great post. Thanks! I was inspired by my Brother in Law who, quite frankly, has never ever looked overweight, but did 5:2 for ‘being healthy’ reasons. He gave me the book to read, but more importantly told me it worked. I’d never done a diet before. I’ve calorie counted and exercised to create a calorie deficit and lose weight, like we’ve all been told to. But the minute I stopped the serious exercise, I alway put a bit on, then tried again. 5:2 has saved me! And I’ve tried to pass it on to a few people, some listen, some don’t. It’s such a buzz when people tell you you look great the last time I heard anyone say that to me was yesterday, the time before was about 20 years ago!

Take care, and hold you loved ones close.

@okeydokey Thanks so much for all your hard work so far with this April challenge. I’ve my weight for you to add:
    start weight 173lbs (12 stone 5 lbs)…April goal to lose 5lbs to 168lbs.

I bought my first set of digital scales last week aaarrrggghh!! I much prefer the kitchen scales…

    Second post
@umka6 I’ve just read BelfastSink’s post and googled it. Think this is the link
    I’ll be trying it soon!

Day 5 FD Sunny country west Australia
Well it WAS sunny but is now 8.30 pm.
Had a good fast day today, kept under 500 calories and feeling SOOOOO much better for it.
For those struggling, I griped and moaned about being on a plateau for 2 months or so.
This morning my weight had gone up 1 kg overnight, but I always expect a 1 – 2 kg difference daily since I am a daily weigher and weekly ( Saturday morning) noter of weight as in I write down only that weight.
Have enjoyed reading the some of the posts and plan to catch up when I can.
I really enjoy this forum. So many lovely people , so many different journeys and people so good at sharing.
‘ Love youse all’. ( an Aussie vernacular expression some people say !)

    Day 5, Germany, NFD
    Day 6, Germany, NFD

Thanks so much @debster251! It sounds like egg foo young but w/o the gravy. I think I may add some extra veggies too for my dinner meal.

@chumi That is interesting information. It is amazing how much salt consumption is declining in Finland too. When I went on a low sodium diet it was helpful because it started breaking me away from processed foods and forced me to read labels. I’m sure my sodium consumption is much lower today than it would have been without that. It is very interesting though that there could be benefits from salt with our immune system. That is totally new information to me and something I should look into. You are right too about stroke and kidney issues. Like most things in the body there are tradeoffs.

I think that awareness of what one is eating helps a lot. While I don’t let sodium scare me, I do choose foods lower in sodium where there isn’t any reason for the food to be salty. However salty plum, pickles and even soy sauce are all about salt! Yum!

Wow you have very good English, I never guessed English was a second language for you. Actually when I read some of my old posts I wonder about my own English!

Hi all UK (Co Down) day 5 FD (11.7)

Start March 11.9 – not where I wanted to be at all but it is what it is and at least feel I am making progress.

yesterdays fast day had a little blip – in that my son had not eaten a hot cross bun and said I have left it wrapped in the fridge for you – oh oh! it called and it called and I caved (why?), so total for the day was over fd but below a nfd lol – trying not to be too hard on myself. Feel like I am getting nearer the light of the dark tunnel I found myself in. I have started planning and have printed my April calendar – so that is a start. Have been busy and I haven’t read posts but will start catching up – planting some trees tonight and I really need to do a bit of maths every night – first exam is May, ekkk! – and why did I think this was a good idea at my age??

I found myself not looking back to see how far I have come and felt in despair of how little progress I seem to be making and getting disillusioned at how long it has taken to get here. It all seemed so overwhelming. I was forgetting these words – ‘Never compare your journey with someone else’s. Your journey is “your” journey and not a competition’ (thank you for the reminder AT). I also forgot I have completed every challenge since I started the first in May last year – that is some going and I should be very proud of that. I look forward to catching up with everyone’s posts by new and old friends but for now I will just keep on keeping on and logging in every day.

Day 5 Chicago, Illinois USA – FD

Switching up my Friday fast day and doing it today since I will be out of town from Thursday through Sunday. Will weigh in tomorrow instead of Saturday for this week.

    Day 5- USA – FD

New to the forum. Believe in fasting but struggle (mightily) with the first 24 hours. Today is my first day of an intermittent fast. Hope to post successful news tomorrow.

    Day 5 USA-WA FD
Had a more controlled NFD yesterday with lots of exercise. I am interested in the sodium conversation. My blood pressure is on the low side, and I am finding that I actually need to add in some salty foods on FD or it makes the headaches and dizziness much more of a problem, even with lots of water. I guess it’s all finding the right balance for our bodies?

    Day 5 – Germany – NFD

    Day 5, Cumbria UK, FD

    Day 5 – NFD – Canada
B2b nearly over! A .5 lb loss, I’ll take it. Will break my fast at noon. How did you do with your fist @sirisan?
Great posts out there, @fatrabbit thank you for giving us glimpses of your world, it is such a pleasure to hear people’s backstories when you’ve been reading their thoughts on this WOL for a while. I’m sure many of us will identify with your frustrations with your mum.

Day 5, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Maintaining below goal weight, actually very surprised that my weight seems so stable. I haven’t really deprived myself of anything the last few months. I have really upped the exercise since we added the Total Gym to our routine. I truly love it, we debated about it for a couple of years but it feels sooooo good when I use it. That and the gallon or more of water/green tea a day – I feel very light and healthy. I don’t feel the need to wear any extra layers, sweaters, jackets, vests, etc. unless I truly want them to be a part of my wardrobe that day. As opposed to covering up anything. No tugging, pulling, adjusting. Tried on a skirt with a waistband and button – no stretchy material to give at all. I have kept it for years as it is a pretty lilac tulip print – but I cannot remember it not digging into my waist a bit when I buttoned it. Until now – I will be wearing it on Easter.

One would not think about twelve pounds would make such a difference but I think when it is those final pounds, it really does. I think this way of eating less (however one schedules it) works effortlessly because in the end the total amount of calories over a give period of time – a week, a month, a year, is significantly less.

To your health, all. Off to make some hot lemon water.

    To your health, all.

    Day 5 – USA – NFD

Yesterday’s nfd didn’t go as well as planned. I was so very hungry that I over ate. I ate very low carb until 2pm when I got home from work. I was getting a migraine. I was tired from getting up at 4:30 with the puppy. AND I was hungry. So I ate a whole heap of pretzels with hummus and a blueberry chobani yogurt. Then my husband ordered a pizza for dinner!!!! Ah well, today is a fresh start!

Love the support of this group! β€οΈοΈπŸ’œβ€οΈοΈπŸ’œ Wish I had time to comment individually on the wonderful posts. 😘😘😘. Best wishes to all.

LindaSue, where do you live? I grew up in West Plains but I live in DC now.

Day 5 NSW Aust – NFD
Not a good food Day today.

    DAY 5 NFD ADELAIDE

Had a ‘sumptuous’ 3 course lunch today – a cup of miso soup with some seaweed and chili, 4 multigrain crackers with tomato and transparently thin cheddar slivers and 5 grapes – very filling and the miso isn’t too salty.
I’ve felt a bit ‘hyper’ all day – anyone else experienced this?
Tomorrow is a FD but there is a farewell lunch at work which is going to be a little tricky.
Love reading the posts from all around the world.
Huge job @Okey Dokey – thank you!

    Day 5 – USA (Utah – visiting) – NFD

Surprisingly good travel day yesterday not over eating. Today we ski at Park City, UT β›·β›·β›· with daughter and 2 granddaughters. We have a nice condo near the slopes for some vacation time with pool and hot tub! I will have to eat some carbs today for energy, but exercise will be good.

Not much time to read or write – must bet our breakfast. Onward and downward!

Hi HHQ, I live near Springfield. Spent lots of years in St. Louis, Jefferson County (Arnold), Cedar County (Steelville/Cuba) then retired down here. Well, retired three times but kept going back to work because I missed it. Work for a law firm three days a week, volunteer and run wild the other days (as my husband would say), haha..

    Day 5 – Croatia – FD

    Weight:79.3 Kg

    Anonymous

Day 6 – California, USA – FD (hopefully)

    @onahealthyhigh

    Awwwwwwwweeee!
    Ok I’ll hang around! ❀️
Thanks for the encouragement. I just felt silly as I haven’t really stayed on track with any of my intentions.

But you’ve remotivated me and for that, thank you!!!
    😊😊😊

    Day 6 – South Korea – NFD
Had a good NFD day today!
Succes to all the fasters today!

    Day 5 Surrey UK NFD

    Day 5 Maine NFD

Good morning all – successful NFD yesterday – small bowl oatmeal, yummy chicken chili for dinner – few crackers, but total stayed around 1200 calories. Need more veggies today. Missed my therapy walk – pouring rain. Today, cloudy drizzly, but suiting up to walk – then home to vacuum!

@lindasue – very motivating post – great visual – looking forward to trying on my uniform clothes for work (yikes – never thought I’d say that!)….won’t be pulling, tugging or making sure sweater covers my ass! Very freeing!

Make it a super day everybody!

    Day 5 – USA – FD

@sarah57, @lindasue, great going! @johnnyr, lol about the goldfish! @coda, hugs to you; glad you had the epiphany! Slow and steady wins the race!

Day 5 – SW WA USA – FD

LynzM – with you, my B2B FDs didn’t move the needle much on the scale. For me, I think it might be I wasn’t very mindful about how many sugar free chocolates I was popping into my mouth. So I decided to make today a “proper” FD.
It’s a travel day today as I head up to British Columbia to check up on Mom & Dad so will only plan to eat a small meal with them when I get there.

Sarah57 – horray for the wardrobe downsizing!
Zowie – what a great start!
Coda – so glad to see your post. I’m glad you’re hanging in there with us. I appeciate your realness.
Nabaht – Yay – glad you’ll hang around. It’s nice to do the journey with others instead of muddling through on our own.
LindaSue – love your Easter skirt visual. Enjoy!

Okay, I better pack my Mazda6 and head north!

    @annemarilyn thank you! πŸ˜€ I agree.

    Day 5 – US – FD

We had a wonderful Birthday with our twins✨ They are growing up so quickly, a little scary for momma.✨They are wonderful children. Both made the honor roll this quarter. We will be taking them to a Hibachi steak house with some of their friends Saturday. ✨ I am Happy to be able to start my FD today, or should I say last night ( officially 36 hours for a FD πŸ˜„ I’d like to continue Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I’ve got my goals and I can’t waist any of these precious FD’s before JuneπŸ˜„

I will be updating our group worksheet for these 2 days and checking in occasionally. I love πŸ’›βœ¨reading all the wonderful posts.. 14 pages already, wow!

✨✨Remember, your only limit is you! And ✨✨You Got this✨✨ We got You!✨✨✨✨Together We are Stronger πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ’ͺπŸ‘βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨

    Day 4 / Sweden / NFD
    Day 5 / FD

FD going well today. I was actually too busy at work today and didn’t even notice that I’d had nothing at all to eat in over 22 hours. Had an apple during a meeting and have finally come home to prepare supper for the family.

All in all, a very good day.

    Take care!

    Day 5 UK FD.
Decided on another FD today as out and about all day with hardly any chance to eat so thought that would be ideal! Plus have to have a few FD in the bank before visiting Australia next week! Good luck to all the fasters today.

    Day 5 – London, UK – NFD

Yesterday’s FD went well. Mostly found it difficult around dinner time when my husband was eating his fish and chips!

Found it hard to get to sleep due to a headache and sore throat and woke up this morning with a horrible sore throat and feeling really rough. It might be from my cycle around the park yesterday. I felt really warm and only wore a thin top, forgetting how sensitive my throat is to the slightest cold wind :/

On the plus side, I’ve mostly been drinking lots of tea and not stuffing my face. I really wanted to go to boxing tonight but not sure it’s wise.

Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow and manage to get some exercise in!

@sarah57 @onahealthyhigh @annemarilyn thanks for all the encouragement!

I hope I am not missing anyone.. this thread is huge! And awesome. πŸ˜€

    Day 5 – US – FD

@nabaht I have been busy updating the worksheet when I came across your post.
    So I responded:
Don’t stop. Any steps you are taking is better than no steps at all, just doing 3 FD’s spread out in a month can have a beneficial affect on your health.
Now I see we have some great people here that have supported you in staying! So happy! Glad to see you are staying!✨😊🌈✨

Day 5, Rocky Mountains, US, FD 800 cals

    Anonymous

    @okeydokey aww thank you!
Also, Happy (belated) birthday to the twins! πŸŽ†πŸŽπŸŽ‰

Day 5 NFD St. Louis USA
    Weight today 143.8
since I got put on the pocket list for back to back fast days Monday and Tuesday, I decided to go for it. I did 500 cal on Monday and 800 Tuesday. It went pretty well. Only very small weight loss today but usually weigh myself on Friday morning after Thursday 500 cal fast. Still, I feel much lighter, and my belly is pretty flat.

@lindasue 12 pounds makes a big difference on me and how I look in my clothes. I’ve already noticed a difference in my yoga pants.

@okeydokey. Thank you so much for hosting this April fast. I found the march one very helpful and was hoping there would be another.

Oh my best to you fasters and the rest of us.

    Day 5 – Brazil – NFD

Day 5 – East Coast Canada – FD
A day running errands and tracking down a lost mobile phone on the other side of the harbour, resulting in no breakfast or lunch so I will turn this into an unplanned FD. I only had time for one coffee this morning and it seems to have made a difference with the little bit of nausea that sometimes hits me in the afternoons. Good luck everyone, the day is quickly closing!

Didn’t catch up on the posts as I’d hoped, haven’t fasted for at least a MONTH…feeling a failure. It’s hard because, this week, I’m on holiday and the kitchen is right HERE. Afraid to weigh. Motivation is well and truly out the window….sigh!
    Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week….?

    Third post.
    One to look out for
I was listening to the radio today at lunchtime and Dr M was on talking about fish oils. Nothing new, but he said that there is something coming on about sleep in the next couple of weeks so will be watching out for that one!
