Day 4……Florida….. NFD
I woke up a bit earlier then I wanted to this morning, very surprised as I was sooo tired last night. I seriously believe it was just the after math of such a long day on Sat and a cleaning fest on Sunday. Hopefully, now it’s gone and I can resume my regular scheduled programming.
Food wise today is going to be a tough one. I won’t eat breakfast and lunch will be just veg but dinner that’s going to be the kicker.
Today is my baby boys 21st birthday. 21, I can not believe it. He had decided on lasagna and pumpkin cake as his meal. 21 years is a long time to watch your baby grow into a young man. There are so many lovely memories that I sit and think about as he goes on about his days and makes plans for the future. I watch and still sometimes see the little boy, I raised with love, kindness and compassion. I giggle as I watch him with his girlfriend and realize he has his dad sweet generosity as he does the little things that show he cares. The wink across the room, the softest bush of his hand as he walks by her or just making sure she knows she great. All in all, we raised a perfect person with a combination of all our best features and attributes.
Okay, I’m done being mushy
Okaydokey and Fordperfect……. many blessing to your twins today on their 16th birthday. May the understand and enjoy all the benefits that being 16 affords them. 16, is such a powerful and magical age!
Fat rabbit…… I love your stories about your animals. I few years back, I started my attempts at become more self sufficient, with a garden. We eat out of our garden daily, but my ultimate goal, is to have critters to boot. Chickens, pigs , goats and cows. We haven’t ventured into that journey yet as we have a profound coyote problem in this neck of the woods. We live on 2 1/2 acres in the middle of town, can’t even leave our pup unattended because these things attack even in the middle of the day. Even though ordience of the town allows us to have small farm animals with a permit, they warn against small critters until they can control the coyote problem. So, I’m living my dreams through your stories….. Thank you!
Well, my coffee cup is empty so that only means one thing, this girls gotta get ready for work
Be classy, sassy and a bit bad assy today!
Day 4 – UK – NFD
Haven’t posted since last week as was away and had decided to forget dieting for the week. I plucked up courage this morning to see the damage I’d done and yeah I was exactly the same as the day before we went away. I knew all that walking would help, who knew 2 hours in the Welsh hills will outweigh the wine and gin splurges! So back aboard that wagon. I’m planning Alternate days this week to kick start me again so yesterday was a FD and for most of the day I wasn’t hungry at all. Today is a NFD for now but am hoping to keep calories overall under 1000.
One thing about last week, we didn’t really overeat apart from Saturday when we went for a curry (my favourite). It’s the first time since January and we went for our normal meal, poppadums, starter and main. We actually shared a portion of rice and left out the naan bread. I was so full and really uncomfortable when in the past I would have wolfed it all down. On Sunday I felt very boated and sick. Can only think that after 3 months my stomach has finally shrunk.
Thanks @okeydokey for organising us all this month. I like to Post daily if I can as I find it keeps me on the straight and narrow. So sorry for the ramblings.
My target is to lose 7 lbs in March, that would get me to under 16 stones – yes I actually wrote that weight down.
@fatrabbit I’ve been following your posts for a couple of months – you’re stories of the furries are really entertaining,.
This global community of like minded people we have here is amazing. I’m getting inspiration from people in South Korea, the US, Croatia etc – sometimes the internet is horrific but sometimes it’s marvellous.
Focus on the positives and upwards and downwards.
Day 4 Derbyshire UK NFD
Hi everyone – hope you’re doing well: fasting, not fasting, or thinking about it
Yesterday was my 3rd fasting day since I started last week. The few lbs I put on after my weekend of wine and food including great fish n chips from the seaside and a fantastic curry (that didn’t give me heartburn, unusually for me) those lbs seem to have gone after my fast of yesterday 🤙😀. I found yesterday’s fast easier than the first two of last week – it does get better as you fast more, as people have said on here, I’m now working on developing my routine of FDs and NFDs and what to eat and drink.
I’m trying to catch up with posts and get my head round the forum and get to recognise people
I’m planning on trying to exercise a bit more but I’m hampered by having dislocated my shoulder over two weeks ago and too much of anything and it aches all round my neck back and shoulders like mad. The most I’m doing is a walk with my oh when he walks the dog – but I can’t hold our black Labrador on the lead yet myself. The good news is that I’ve been discharged from the hospital so it’s on the mend and as long as I’m careful it will be fine.
Day 4 – Finland – NFD
FD went well yesterday (ended up eating more or less exactly 500 kcals – a mix of curd, yogurt, ground flax seeds and dried cranberry powder around lunch, 1/2 a protein bar as snack, an apple, two thin crispbreads with cheese and one thin cold cut of turkey on top and a Vienna sausage). I also drank two cups of green tea (one with honey), a few cups of warm water with lemon and plain water also at times with lemon.
Still suffering from the flu, but the fasting did at the very least not make me feel any worse.
@at Thank you for your tip. I tend to drink a lot of warm liquids when suffering from a cold (preferably with honey, and if I have Echinacea purpurea extract I usually add that to the mix; if I want something stronger, I make an infusion by brewing ginger).
I hope your fast day helped you reset and feel better after your indulgent weekend. Like you mentioned, success and failure are made up from repeated small actions, and indulging occasionally will not destroy the progress when otherwise sticking to eating healthily.
@annnursekirk No problem, I’m happy to help. I know very well that following a thread with this many active participants can at times be a little hard.
@okeydokey Great work on the spreadsheet! I know you mentioned it’s still a work in progress, but when you have the time, would you mind correcting my country to Finland (and starting weight to 63.2 kg)? I apologize if my previous use of Sweden (I was over there on a trip, so thus I also mentioned it in a parenthesis) was confusing.
Day 4 – East Coast Canada – NFD
Thanks @okeydokey for including me on the list yesterday, it was a tough fast but knowing we were all in this together gave me the determination to get through it!
@lilymartin – Thanks for your sympathy, I typically love winter and fill the time with Ice Curling but this winter came early and it’s dragging on in a cruel way. I am dreaming of getting on my bike…I can’t wait to see if the 15lbs I’ve lost since January improves my hill climbing (a girl can dream!).
Blimey folks. I’m 40 hours into a liquid fast and feel positively great. I exercised like my life depended on it yesterday; 1 spin class at (what used to be) lunchtime, and a 7 mile MTB bike ride with a hefty climb involved. And I feel fine. Hunger has left me for now. So… if you’re struggling in a routine, change up! Go for it. If you’ve been doing 5:2 for a bit, change it. Be wise and don’t over-do it, but changing a routine can make a difference. I reckon I’ll be about 5,500 kcals down when I break my fast with a veggie omelette later.
Day 4, Belfast, FD
Not going too bad at the moment, but it’s only lunchtime lol. Boiled egg and dry toast for breakfast, slim a soup for lunch…this forum has been great for the recipe ideas that are shared. I’d been using the recipes in the fast diet book, but getting a bit tired of the same meals. I enjoy cooking but on FDs I’d prefer something a wee bit quicker than usual. I’d better stop thinking about food, good luck all!
Hi Okey Dokey please count me in. Not sure how the challenge works as I’m a very newly hatched 5:2er – this is week 2.
Feeling hungry is kinda novel to me, and in a weird way I’m sort of enjoying that. My sis is on here and inspired me – thanks Sis!
I don’t have any scales and right now I’m a bit afraid to get some, as I know from many previous weight loss attempts that I’ll be on them all the time and any lack of change can send me off on a snack fest. I feel like my head is (finally) in the right place, so the plan for now is to keep on track, keep in touch with my dr, not beat myself up, and enjoy feeling in control of my appetite.
And a bucket-of-water-in-the-face moment the other day at work – when everyone else around me is eating doesn’t mean I have to as well!
Oops – and NFD today
And I’m in Adelaide South Australia
@okeydokey @gailh0351 According to Michael Mosley: “In reality a fast day is 36 hours. If you finish your last full evening meal at 7.30pm on Sunday, then Monday is your fast day, you are not going to be eating normally till Tuesday morning 7.30am. That is 36 hours. If you decide instead to fast from 2pm on Monday until 2pm on Tuesday, then that will only be 24 hours. Wait till 7pm and that is 29 hours. To do 36 hours you would have to hold off till 2am on Wednesday, which would be a little inconvenient.” (as written in the FAQ)
Second post day 4
@sarah Here’s to the ?somethings! I am 5’6″ and my target is about 10 st 6 or 7. I haven’t set a final goal just yet because most of my body is quite slim except for my waist, and I will stop when I’m happy with my waist circumference!
Thank you SongBirdMe.
@bert you brought a tear to my eye. Sometimes we lament when our children grow up from being those little toddlers with their chubby fingers and toes to a gangly teenager, but my first son is 31 later this month and his brother is 30 in July. I look at how tender they are with their girlfriends, how caring and very aware of those around them they are and I’m proud of the fine young men they’ve become.
@hereigo I hope your shoulder gets better soon. It sounds painful.
@coda stay strong.
@belfastsink love the name! Someone posted this link last month, which has some great recipes.

Onward and downward!
@okeydokey count me in, please. Thank you for taking your time to do this. Can you share the link for the spreadsheet?
Chicago, Illinois USA
Starting weight is 143, goal is to lose at least 4 pounds this month to be in the 130s
Day 1 – FD
Day 2 – NFD
Day 3 – FD
Day 4 – NFD
@debster251 cheers! Good to see another Belfast head!
I’m on my 3rd FD since starting back on the 5:2. I’d lost a stone and a bit a couple of years ago but didn’t maintain it and its all back on. Lessson learnt lol!
Day 4 – SW WA USA – FD 2nd of B2B
Nabaht – how can it be Day 5 in California? I’m in WA and it’s Day 4.
On this forum, we put the calendar day we’re posting. 🙂
Yay, enjoying spring break – heading to the gym for a change. Have been recovering from an injury but want to exercise gently at least.
Have a great day! Together we are stronger!
Oh, BTW, I tried some of the zero noodles in a chinese stir fry last night. They are fun!
Day 4 – second post
@okeydokey – love the fist bump 🤜🤛! I’ll be using that 😊 Also, was feeling very positive reading your response (as always), then opened my next email and it was a bloody ad from Pizza Hut… not this time, my cheesy carb friends! I am committed.
@coda – thinking of you. Hope that light is getting clearer and stronger by the moment. I find the fasting helps me find clarity and, I’m sure I’ve said before so forgive me, but also helps me feel some control where other things are getting on top of me. I hope today brings you the same.
Day 4 2nd post,
@umka6, you may well ask…..
“How is a CD which I think means controlled day, different from a NFD?”…….
Unfortunately a NFD can sometimes become an epic face stuffing event, no holds barred, GIVE ME CAKE type of day. These are ok in moderation providing your remaining NFDs for the week/ fortnight are …….CDs!!!
This WOL works, but it’s not a miracle, cure-all instant fix…………you actually have to work on the NFDs (probably harder than the FDs!!!!) to not eat anything & everything in sight!!!!!!!!!
That feeling soon goes and you settle into easy CDs with a little blip here and there!!!
Hope that helps and……..stay controlled!!!!
Second post –
It seems as though we are a pretty solid group these days – @coda, I hope your world calms and centers so that you can feel your own fabulous two feet on the ground and then gain traction on your path. It will come.
I am conscious now of wanting to craft this WOL into something infinitely sustainable. I can see that what I do now is what I will be doing here on out… and I like it. I am heartened by those of you who stay here and post from maintenance, thank you!
Exercise, and being centered in my body through FDs, is creating a great feeling that I am getting more and more…
I’ve only just discovered this, can I jump in?
So mine goes:
Day 1 – UK – NFD
Day 2 – UK – NFD
Day 3 – UK – NFD
Day 4 – UK – FD
Starting weight: 77.2kg
Goals: + Get started with 5:2 and lose 4lbs.
My Mum just found out she has pre-diabetes and her blood pressure etc. isn’t great, so I’ve decided to take this on with her in the hope that doing it together will help to spur us both on.
I’m starting out with a 4lb goal because I’m always very impatient to see amazing numbers, but I’ve been trying to lose weight for years now and I’m at the point where seeing the numbers go down, no matter how slowly, would be an achievement.
Day 4 Maine NFD
Had a great FD yesterday – actually enjoyed the veggie omelette for dinner more than the 2 NFD dinners I had sat/sun. Tried to make meals to freeze in preparation of returning to work – total waste of time & calories! Frustrating, but learning experience – stick to yummy salads!
I need to take notes when reading the posts – so many I want to comment on! Universal connection on all!
@okeydokey – thank you for your helpful tips on following 5/2 while working…loved all the suggestions.
@jojo58 – so happy to see you back with us – I value your posts – always find something helpful & motivating.
@bert1802 – I, too, teared up reading your post about your 21 yr old. Enjoy the celebration!
@fatrabbit – congrats! Great accomplishment & you know I love your animal/life stories!
@songbirdme – safe travels – have a blast!
@flourbaby – great distinction between NFD & CD – leads me to@blueninjamum loved “conscious now of wanting to craft this WOL into something inifinitely sustainable.”
@coda & Ciren2 – I have this motivational calendar hanging on the fridge – this month’s quote is from A.A.Milne: you’re braver than you believe, & stronger than you seem, & smarter than you think.
Welcome to all newbies! Wishing us all much personal success & growth in April!
Make it a great day everybody!
Day 4, Kent, UK – NFD
Luckily the headache which plagued me yesterday has vanished so I am feeling more lively.
Had a good day, playing bowls then a talk about the history of Comics at my Retirement Group. Finally a walk around the park using my Nordic Poles, this helps make a dog walk into a bit of a work out.
Prawn salad for dinner tonight.
FD tomorrow and Friday. Not keen on fasting at the weekends.
I will catch up on post tonight, so much to read
Day 4 – Cumbria UK – NFD
Woke up to another lovely sunny spring day – felt really good after my liquid/minimal cal FD yesterday – went for a 5mile/8km walk with a friend then broke my fast (about 40hrs) at around 1300hrs by having a light lunch out with DD in the sunshine…….bliss……
I have an afternoon of baking ahead of me for the group I volunteer at on a Wednesday afternoon, we are having an Easter Celebration as it’s our last get together until after Easter – making vanilla and chocolate cup cakes decorated with buttercream icing and mini eggs…..36 of them!!!!!!
@ciren2 – “Think positive because thoughts are like the steering wheel that moves our life in the right direction” Hugs
@goldensun – we can keep maintaining together this month
@jojo58 – Nice to see you back and well done on winning your Ladies Pairs Final at the bowls tournament 👍and great work on the Waist Whittling March Challenge also
@snowday – Welcome – this WOL works and cost nothing…….my advice would be to stick to the basics for the first month or so and see how you get on then if you want you can start tweaking things around but the basic diet works – The following link by @simcoeluv might prove helpful and answer a lot of your questions:– https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
@fatrabbit – what a great milestone achieved – you have your next goal in mind – stay focused and you know you can do it!
@lindasue – thanks for the MSN link – I liked “the most important part of dieting is picking a plan that works for you. As long as you consistently reduce calorie intake, whether through reduced portion sizes, or fasting, you will lose weight. After all, no diet works if it doesn’t work for you.”
@skinnylove – sometimes pushing too hard is not the answer but doing the basics correctly – ensuring that you are not overestimating your calorie intake is a crucial element – I find checking that I have portion control correct is a key part of this WOL
@redlusso – stay positive and strong – you can do this – trying mentally pressing a reset button with either a controlled NFD or a FD and often it gets you on the right track again
@bert1802 – Day 3 – you kept control and made it 💃 Just enjoy your baby boy’s 21st – the way you write about him brought a tear to my eye – such proud motherly love shone through xx
@lilymartin – well done for getting back on track so fast after your guests left …….that is what I call motivation!
@gailh0351 – you have been given some great advice already I see – there is great support on this forum read the posts and post daily and it helps keeps you motivated
@debster251 – Happy 37th Wedding Anniversary 🥂 That will be and OH later this year too! You have this WOL – you know it works and you can achieve your goals!
@johnnyr – you are a machine!
Very busy thread and fascinating reading everyone’s post but unable to comment on them all – it’s amazing that with all the sad stories we hear from around the world – we are are own global community who can talk and share with each other and offer support and/or a shoulder or word of advice so freely!!
THANK YOU @okeydokey for taking good care of us this month – your spreadsheet is looking great – I see we are up to 144 already…..
“ALWAYS END THE DAY WITH A POSITIVE THOUGHT, NO MATTER HOW HARD THINGS WERE. TOMORROW’S A FRESH OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT BETTER”
Day 4 – USA – NFD
Second post – @miffy88, welcome to you and mom! Encouraging to hear that you are joining in with both of you in mind. I guarantee you will not be sorry! There are wonderful people on this forum who will help you, cheer you and support you both!

4 NFD
I’m 12 st 11 starting and aiming for 2 stone or more overall weight loss
I’m currently focussed on doing the basic 5:2 and making it a habit – I read somewhere that it takes 21 days to learn a new habit – so, I’m committing to 30 days on 5:2 and I’ll take it from there
