  • @chubbybiker Your doing great! Keep on, Keepin’ on!

@bexicle1979 You seem to be doing well! You mentioned your husband. Is he here at the April Challenge also? If he is what is his name?
    @flourbaby ✅taken care of✨
@hhq I saw a video of a speaker at John’s Hopkins University studies. They did experiments that showed. That when humans have hunger pains, the brain is creating more neurons and making us and making us smarter…. We must be getting a lot smarter this evening!
    Welcome
@johnnyr I will get you started on the April worksheet. Glad to see you here✨😊

    Day 3, USA, FD
Stayed busy all day and out of the kitchen, so wasn’t too bad today. Drank lots of water, seltzer and ACV with lemon. Pray I sleep tonight, because that’s still an issue on FDs. (Moppet, I feel your pain and have now moved on to a “sound machine,” that makes this soothing lulling sound. I slept like a baby last night, but granted, it was a NFD, so will keep you posted. Limiting my coffee/caffeine on FDs to only one cup in the morning made with 1/2 decaf has certainly helped me fall asleep)

Oh dear! Day 3 was a disaster – in fact the whole weekend was a disaster. I could make the excuse that I haven’t been sleeping so needed a hot chocolate and I had no internet so started boredom eating or i was stressed about ill health so needed comfort food……..but really, I just …..well I just didn’t bother. Now I feel foul. @okeydokey your spreadsheet is awesome – a mind blowing effort and thanks but you put my loss @ 5kg instead of 0.5! current weight 98.5kg. Tomorrow is FD so hope to get back on track.
I can’t always weigh myself at the same time of day so I’ll weigh in when I can.

Day 1 Chicago, Illinois USA – FD
    Day 2 – NFD
    Day 3 – FD

    Starting weight is 143.
Goal is to lose at least 4 pounds and be in the 130s

Posted this on the March site, didn’t know April had a new link, oops.

    Day 3….. Florida….FD

Just a quick note as I am sooooo, soooo, sooo tired tonight. Good say, could have over ate at dinner but kept it controlled.

Be classy, sassy and a bit bad assy!

I am a newbie and would like to join this challenge group. This is my first time trying this and I hope to be successful. I have read a few things, but am not sure how long a fast day is. I understand that To eat no more than 500 calories on my fast days, but am unsure when I start back eating again. Can someone explain with an example to me. Also , what is the best foods or meal plan to eat on fast days. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi gail and welcome:

This answers your question and many others: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Third and final post for day 3 FD. Logged 571 Kcal for the day. More than planned but I will chalk it up as a win. Now for a mug of vanilla Sleepytime tea and a good book. 🌝🌟⭐️🌟⭐️💫💫💫

    Aahhhhhhh!
Day 4 NFD sunny country West Australia
    Day 1 NFD
    Day 2 NFD
Day 3 much anticipated and well deserved and GOOD FD.

The 5 day food fest is over. The 6 guests have departed and I am no longer cooking for 8 or 9 or 10 people. Loved having them but I found it difficult to be as disciplined as I would have like to have been food wise.
Most of the food was very healthy but for me it was the ‘ added extras’ ….
“with a chocolate here and a biscuit there
here a choc there a chip
    everywhere more cal..or…ies.
Lily Martin ate too much food
    E I E I O “.
( sung to the tune of ‘Old McDonald had a farm’ ) for those who know it!!

Now back on track and yesterday’s FD felt wonderful. I didn’t miss food and could almost feel my body breathing a sigh of relief..
Did get the munchies about 4 pm but a delicious crisp little apple solved that.
Woke this morning feeling ready to make April AMAZING!!. and already feeling better.
Just trying to figure out how to deal with Easter. Easter egg chocolate is SO delicious. Is it because it is thnner than usual chocolate??
And a hot cross bun with lashings of butter dripping off it…( hoping that talking about it and being mindful now will help me at the time!)
    Good to be back.

    Day 4 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 77.2kg

My FD was a little harder than most but I make it.

Pocketeers you are almost to the finish line!

@lilymartin – Most FDs I find I have less hunger than the NFDs! Once I start eating it is hard to get into the right spot of being full enough to not be hungry but also not stuffing myself. It also seems like the perfect spot moves around on me. On FDs it is more like my body moves on its own to that perfect spot. Sometimes the journey is easy and sometimes it isn’t but it always seems to happen.

@gailh0351 – Most of us do our FD’s (Fast Days) this way: we have nothing after our supper one day then when we wake up, generally only have coffee/tea/water unsweetened until late afternoon or early evening. At that point we have under 500 calories for women, 600 for men. (Technically that is to be 1/4 or less of our TDEE – calculate that here: http://mytdee.com/ Total Daily Energy Expenditure). Keep drinking water, tea, or even bone broth until breakfast (or later) the next day.

I’ve been on 5:2 or 6:1 for just over a year, and at times have gone with about zero calories on a FD. Some even do back to back (BTB) FD’s (just how they manage that escapes me!). Yes this is really a supportive group to join.

I see @simcolove has also given you a link to help out

    Day 3 Florida USA NFD
I topped out at 840 calories today, not bad for a NFD. Also swam laps for 30 minutes. Main reason my calorie count is low is because friends and I tried a new restaurant and I hated it, ate nothing but about a cup of vegetables for lunch. I don’t lose on 800 calories so tomorrow will be a regular 500 calorie FD. You all have my support and encouragement today and everyday. 😘

last post Day 3… soon to bed

An 800 cal FD today… I think it will be ok if I do three of these in a week – I’ll aim to have the next one 600. I’ll be my own experiment 🙂

second post. Currently 71.6 kgs. Goal for April to get under 70 kgs.
@dykask, yes I also find it is often easier on FDs as the hunger pangs don’t get started. But once I start to eat anything it can really get the digestive juices going! especially on NFDs.
I sometimes use visualisation and think about what I will have to do to account for the food I plan to consume. If I have to do the equivalent of a 100 km walk to make up for the pie and chips, well then it certainly doesn’t seem worth it!
I also sometimes think – a minute in the mouth, an hour in the stomach and a lifetime on the hips.
This scares me enough not to eat some foods in the first place.
Having said all that, I don’t think we should be so consumed ( pun intended!) by food that we demonise it.
As I have said before, food is food is food.
But the nice thing about 5:2 WOL is that it HAS made me more aware of what and when I eat.
It will be interesting to see how I go going into the colder months in the Southern Hemisphere. It hasn’t been too bad with summer/autumn as with the hot weather I find it easy with salads and smaller meals. But in cold weather I tend to get the munchies and look for ‘comfort food’.
Hats off to all you northern hemispherites who have managed doing this when it is so cold. Some of the posted temperatures since November have made me feel cold just reading them. And we don’t even get snow here! 😎

Day 4 – California, USA – FD (actually BSD)

    I did it!
    Finally!

I’m starting the Blood Sugar Diet today, so I had to get it in gear.
    Up till now it went
    Day 1 – NFD
    Day 2 – NFD
    Day 3 – NFD
    Day 4 – FD

Hope you’re all having a lovely one.

Day 3 and Day 4, Oceanside CA, NFD

Had a totally perfect FD today and relaxed with some wine tonight. Just a bit over 700 calories. So an FD plus. Last week of our winter sojourn in California. Back to Mountaintop, PA April 10.

Enjoyed another day in the sun walking along the beach. One day at a time.

    Day 4 – Sydney, AUS – NFD 68.8

    Day 4 – Munic, Germany – NFD

    Day 4 UK FD 🌈

Keep going everyone, day four already!!!! 🌷

    Day 4 Portugal NFD

FD yesterday ok, a little over but not too bad. Today, although NFD, will be very controlled and come in well under tdee. That’s the plan anyway.

    Day 4- USA- NFD 18:6

I was happy with my fast day. I had a bunch of crunchy veggies, red cabbage, sweet yellow peppers, red onion and snap peas along with tuna fish packed in water that I mixed with some Just Mayo. I also had a green smoothie and a little popcorn.

    UK Day 4 FD

    @lilymartin

Great post. I went crazy at the weekend. I’m fasting Mon-Fri at the moment and have been keen not to deny myself too much at weekends. But I’m finding it hard to think whether the cr@p I eat is more or less than I used to each day before weekends. For example, I bought a bag of sweets to munch through, but ate only 5 or 6 before stashing away in the glove box. I know I would’ve ploughed through them all pre fast diet… I wasn’t too successful with the chocolate, and the 2 scones though 🙂

    Day 4 UK NFD

I had a Fast Day yesterday which I got through not too badly however, I did not sleep well during the night and kept waking up with hunger pangs. I have noticed before that I sometimes don’t sleep as well on fast days. Is this normal after fasting?

    Day 4 – Staffordshire UK-fd

    Day 4, Switzerland, FD

@scs you may as well have been talking about me in your 2nd post. Have been down and up and down and up again that very same route throughout all my adult years 😩😩 I am SOOOOO glad to have found what I believe more and more to be my new WOL 🌈

@andexhale Brilliant article … thanks for sharing. Fasting is indeed as old as life itself and a truth that has finally found its voice!!

Good luck to all FDers and NFDers

    Day 4 UK FD800

Thanks to having this thread I made it through temptation yesterday and this morning I am still under both 200 lbs and 30 BMI :)) Yay Happy Dance has been done and the piggies weren’t too scathing as they like me when I have given them piles of food. (when I haven’t I get constantly nagged – wheeeeee haven’t been fed for wheeeeeeeks – they have no sense of time, just eating now = happy, not eating = starving, and they are very vocal about it. No one has taught them that fasting is a good thing. They can actually eat a pile of veg that is bigger than they are! And not all of them are fat, in fact a few are very thin as they are getting old, but a few of the middle aged ones are rather generously proportioned). Thanks to everyone supporting me:)) I hope everyone else is successfully battling off temptation. Together we are stronger!

    Day 4 Hampshire FD

Day 4, Cumbria UK , nfd
Yesterdays fast ended up coming in at 799 cals-oops! So not great, but not a total disaster either!!!😕 x

Day 4, Newcastle UK, FD 800 cals

Once again a bitter and twisted individual has decimated the lives of innocent people. My thoughts and prayers are with all affected in St. Petersburg.

Logging into our wonderful global family every day is a constant reminder that the vast majority of people in the world are loving and supportive of each other. Thank you for helping keep my spirits up.

@songbirdme – enjoy your visit with daughter and grandchildren – you deserve some relaxation after all your concert preparations.
@ciren2 – Did you try upping calories to 800 on fast days. I have to say that since starting this (following Dr. Mosely’s updated guidelines) I am practically feeling the weight fall off daily. Two meals a day within a 16:8 (more like 19:5 most of the time) means I do not experience hunger at all.
@fatrabbit – congratulations!!!!! Onwards and downwards!!!!!
@chubbybiker – 10lbs is 10lbs – do not underestimate your achievement. Great start!
@endellion – This WOL really works. Stick at it and you’ll achieve your June goal (and then some is my guess).
@skinnylove – time heals – but it takes time, so take care of yourself.
@orpheusx – sounds like you have a really interesting job/life. I visited Sweden once a very long time ago and loved it. On my wish list to go back soon.
@annnursekirk – hello to another fellow Geordie! As I mentioned to @Stevetoontaxidriver – The Newcastle Can campaign would appreciate you signing up and adding your weight loss journey to their goal (if you haven’t done so already of course). I think they are struggling to get enough people to sign up. I’d hate the end result to be – Well Newcastle Didn’t!!!

Have a great day folks – Together we are Stronger.

    Day 4 Newcastle UK FD
    Here we go 😁

    Day 4 UK
    NFD.
Back to back FD went well, kept to 500 calories or less both days and felt fine.
    Weight 67.1kg.
Now enjoying a slice of my favourite brown seeded bread with lurpak butter and strawberry jam! How the little things now please me!! Going for dinner with my son tonight but taking the car to avoid the wine calories!
Loving the support this group offers and the great motivation!

    Day 4 – Melbourne – NFD Walk #1 today.
@fatrabbit – hearty congrats for making it under 200 lbs and BMI below 30 – what an achievement – I love good news. I also love reading your entertaining posts and I have made your Brussels sprouts curry (a week ago)and it was delish, Thanks! In fact I went to a Brussels sprouts festival! True – I am not fibbing I promise. I rode around on the wagon and did the farm tour, studiously ignored all the food stands, and went to the cooking demo – panfried sprouts and mushrooms on toast spread with goat cheese, for brunch…mmmm.

Thanks also to the poster who put up a link to sauerkraut in a mason jar – it inspired me to look up kimchi in a mason jar (which I found on the same site) so I made it last night. It was so yummy fresh, I could have eaten it then and there – although it must be said that it was a FD so I was peckish 🙂 I now leave it for 3 days, and fingers crossed it will still be very yummy when fermented.

    DAY 4 – UK – FD

@jamba61 – Since I started fd on 1 Jan I also had trouble sleeping, never stopped moaning about it but suddenly things have improved and I am sleeping well. I was advised here to drink lots more water, which I have done. Another suggestion was to eat later – which I don’t do, but I do make sure I eat a slab of protein (steak or chop, fish) for my fd meal…. I am sure it makes a difference. I also have a 1/2 cup of v. hot skimmed milk before I settle down. It works for me. I find generally a high protein low carb diet keeps one fuller for longer and makes sleeping much easier.

    Day 4 – UK – NFD

(To catch up, yesterday was a FD, and days 1 and 2 were NFDs too).

Woke up feeling oddly bloated and regretted the (small) breakfast I had. Anyway, was at 62.1kg today at weigh-in!

Good luck to all the fasters today!

    x

Day 4 UK NFD very happy with yesterday’s successful fast, spent FAR too long this morning deciding whether to have breakfast or not ,in the end I enjoyed a slice of sourdough toast with jam, as I’m getting back In the saddle think ease up a bit on the NFD until I’ve nailed a few fasts then gradually try to gain more control.

Thanks for whoever put me on the pocket list for some strange reason I find it very challenging to copy & paste on this site – weird ? Aiming to fast again tomorrow and if that goes well may aim for a third this week to kick start April

    Day 4 – Switzerland – NFD

Woah, what a lot of posts to read! Think I’m just about caught up. Yesterday’s FD was great for me, but I swapped my usual veggie stir-fry for a baked potato and some lentil dhal for dinner. OH fasts with me now and again, although he’s lost all the weight he needs to and exercises loads. Anyway, baked potato did not fill him up and he was clearly starving hungry all night, which kept us both awake. Different foods do different things to different people…

I would now like to go back to bed, but have to get to the pool for AquaFit. Can’t complain, have done all my morning chores, fed the guinea-pigs, read up on all these posts and the sun is shining!

@skinnylove – loved listening to Bon Iver while I was reading, thank you! Keep looking after yourself, you’re doing great <3
@fatrabbit – our pigs went through a rather meagre time last week when we moved them to their outside hutch and they decided that they have forgotten how to use the ramp to go between floors. I put their food on the bottom floor the first day, then a bit up the ramp the next, then all the way up the ramp, but they are determined to stay up. I have caved in, and will try putting tasty morsels on the ramp to lure them down when they are more at ease with their summer home…

    Day 4 Belfast NFD
A very successful FD yesterday. Today is my wedding anniversary. 37 years! Where did my life go? Then I was a very skinny 25 year old and kept my minute waist even after have two children with 15 months in between. I did three triathlons before becoming pregnant with No 1 so was super fit! I even wore my skinny jeans 👖 out of hospital after having no 2! What happened? I never weighed myself, the exercise slowed down and bit by bit the weight crept on. I remember standing on the scales and realising I was 11 stone. Sadly It didn’t stop there…. That was the beginning of my relationship with diets, counting calories, WW, you know the tune. Well, now I’m 2 lb from seeing the 10 stone anything. Fantastic I hear you say, but I’ve been there on and off for the last month. This time I’ll do it!
@lilymartin Your ‘minute in the mouth’ is very remiscent of the WW ‘A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips! So true. I’m EIEIO ing as I write. An ear worm lol!
    @ciren2 stay with us. Xo
A glorious day here and my first Pilates class for a while. Have changed from yoga to try and see more results. Slowly but surely Fellow Fasters. And yes, @bert, I do feel
classy, sassy and a bit bad assy!

    Day 4 UK – NFD

    Day 4 NZ NFD
Can’t remember if I’ve already posted but I’ve had an average to sort of ok NFD.
Probably over TDEE by a little but I’m not surprised. After yesterday’s FD I had a terrible nights sleep…or lack of sleep as was actually the case.
I woke up at 3am with a desperate urge to pee (excuse the oversharing) this often happens to me on a FD night due to the high water intake on a FD. But, I had gotten to the point where I was sleeping pretty well on a FD other than that.
In the early months I had lots of wakeful nights when fasting but that had improved to the point that I could get up to the bathroom and get straight back to sleep. Last night, as I said, I woke at 3am…and as the saying goes, that was all she wrote.
I lay there wide awake with a busy mind going over nothing of any importance, feeling tired but alert if that makes any sense. Sooooo frustrating!!!
3am right through until 6.30am when I finally gave up and logged on to the challenge page to read through the overnight posts.
So, very long story short, I’m not surprised I was peckish today, 4 hours sleep for the night was bound to have some sort of effect!
I’m still happy with the good FD I had yesterday, and I’ll aim for a very careful NFD tomorrow, I just hope I sleep tonight. I was going to say sleep better, but it doesn’t really feel like I slept at all.
I sound like quite the little grouch, I don’t think I’m grouchy…just over tired! Reminds me of my daughter when she was little, she would never admit to being tired and grouchy. Whenever she yawned she would always quickly point out that she wasn’t tired, she “just forgot to do her morning yawn” so was doing it tonight.

    Day 4 UK NFD

    Morning all

There is sometihing entirely fabulous about the morning after a FD.

@okeydokey brilliant spreadsheet. Thank you for all the hard work which went into it. I think i gave you my total goal (12lbs off) instead of my goal for April which is 6lbs off.

&fatrabbit well done on no longer having obese bmi. That was a great day for me. Now I am approaching the not overweight category. I am sure you will be joining me there quite soon.

    @lilymartin your enthusiasm is infectious

@debster good luck on seeing that 10 something soon. I am approaching the 11 something. I am tall 5ft 9 so my target is 11at 4.

Everyone’s posts are all so valuable in keeping me focussed and accountable. Thank you.

    Day 4, London, UK, NFD

Looking forward to todays’ NFD, I didn’t really over indulge this weekend, except Friday (which has been erased because it was March!!!)

I’ve logged this weeks’ menu into MFP which should keep me controlled on NFDs but not deprived, FDs are fairly standard – soup/ broth/ tea/ water or tea/ broth/ salad/ water or tea/ broth/ zero-noodles or courgette stir-fry/ water……………………..you get the gist!!!!!!

I hope today goes well for us all and enjoy the freedom this WOL gives us whether…………….FD?…..NFD?……CD?…….BSD?……..b2b?………b2b2b2b2b??!!!!!(You brave warriors know who you are – @okeydokey, @dykask, @johnnyr (glad you’re back) !!!)

Keep the faith people, we’ve got this!!!!

2nd post Jamba61- how about trying to save your calories until tea/supper time then you can go to bed with a full tummy! that might help you from wakening from hunger? xx

    3rd post
Okeydokey-I had a sneaky peak this morning on the scales and I weighed in at 148lbs 2oz. Really happy to see the numbers moving down again!!!!!! I might try to jump on the scales after every 2nd fast day from now on,I tend to do 3 fasts a week xxx

    Day 3 FD Melbourne, Australia
    Day 4 NFD
    Weight 79kg exactly.
Finally settled enough to weigh-in. Thought I’d been really over-doing it, but perhaps my WOL has changed intrinsically enough now so that I’m sticking with the plan without trying. So have dropped .5 of a kilo in 2.5 weeks. That’s fine with me considering everything going on.

    Day 1 London NFD – Weight 50.5kg – Goal – to maintain around 50.5-51.5kg
    Day 2 NFD
    Day 3 FD
    Day 4 NFD

Sorry @okeydokey getting this to you earlier , I’ve been sick with a filthy cold the past 3 days.

I indulged a little bit over the weekend, but even so, my weight this morning was back on track after yesterday’s FD and feeling good and light this morning.

@fatrabbit, congrats on getting your BMI down, that’s fantastic news. – My brother was diagnosed with Aspergers about 20 years ago and he is also a whizz at learning languages. He is currently obsessed with learning the Banjo. I am always amazed at the things he can teach himself by focusing hard.

Still loving this way of eating!

    Day 4 – Durham UK – FD

Feeling good this morning and ready to get this FD done! It’s the start of my weekly April B3Bs, and I am happy about this decision. Too many weeks of plateaus, and it’s time to kickstart the downward movement!

Usually have just water, tea with milk and Diet Coke (I know – it’s my biggest vice) through the day and then a soup or veggies and zero rice for tea. Today I’ve got leftover cheaters chilli for tea, but as I am playing netball tonight during normal tea time, I think I might make it all the way to tomorrow without a meal…

Anyway, stay strong my friends – we’ve got this. 💪👊🤝

    Day 4 – South Korea – FD

So yesterday was supposed to be a fast day and I did great until I met friends for dinner. I only had a cappuchino with cinnamon (I can certainly recommend this combination!) in the late afternoon. Since the portions are not that big here in South Korea I thought I would do fine but it turned out we were going to an ‘all you can eat buffet’. Eventhough I managed to take only a little bit of everything, there were still multiple rounds and a quite large bowl of icecream to finish it up. Afterwards we went out for drinks. I don’t know how many calories I consumed in total but definitially more than 800.
At my suprise, I was down 0,3kg on the scale this morning, compared to yesterday. So I decided to make this my fast day.

    Spreadsheet update:
    My startingweight: 93,3 kg
    Waistmeasurement: 83 cm
    hipsmeasurement: 108 cm

    Goals for this month:
Seeing the 80something in the scale again (so 4kg) , losing 3cm around my waist and around my hips.

    Day 1 NFD
    Day 2 NFD
    Day 3 NFD
    Day 4 FD

@Okeydoky, thanks for hosting this challenge!
I really enjoy reading everyone’s experiences and all the encouraging words!
Keep on going, don’t give up!!

    Day 4 – US – NFD

Yesterday was a fast day. Broke my fast with crispy sweet cold apple slices and peanut butter.

Good luck to all you beautiful people out there!

Goal for today: *do not overindulge!* I don’t track calories on NFDs. I hate calorie counting so I only count on FDs. So will try to eat moderately. Low carb, moderate protein, high fat.
Goal for this month: 170 lbs
    Day 1 weight: 177
    Day 4 weight: 175

Day 4 – USA (Il to Utah) – NFD

Yesterday’s 800 calorie day went very well, and maintenance at 160# continues. Up early to travel to O’Hare for flight to Salt Lake City. Will do my best to check in the next couple days, but we are getting a condo at Park City for a few days of fun there.

@debster251 – happy anniversary to you! May you celebrate all your years with joy!

Congratulations to all who are experiencing success on this WOL and support to those of you who are struggling. Stick with it – it works! I got a kick out of the report that the fact not much research is being done on our successful WOL is no one is getting rich selling stuff to do it! Follow the money they always say.

    Onward and downward!
