  • Day 3 – USA – NFD

Second post – @okeydokey, thanks so much for your quick updates to this voluminous list of 5:2’ers and your enthusiasm. Will you please change my April goal to 179 lbs? I’ve been given way too much credit for my willpower…don’t think I’ll make 126 ever again, sad to say!

    @metatauta ✨It’s ✅ done!
@jojo58 Good to see you back! Hope everything with family is well. Thanks for posting your info. I will add it to the worksheet!✨
@krisnia I agree would you like me to start A NFD POCKET SUPPORT GROUP for tomorrow and all who would like support for a NFD on the 4th?

Can someone explain pockettteers to me please I don’t quite get it yet 😱

2 nd Post, Day 3 Kent UK FD Goal 4 lbs this month

Thanks for the welcome back @metatauata and @strawberriesandcream

My head was not in a good place after the London Terrorist Attack, not sure why I was so effected? My sister and her hubby, my son and his girlfriend both live and work in central London, they were fine but so I was worried. Needed a change of routine for a while, then I had to prepare for my bowls club competition so playing everyday. The practise paid off as my partner and I won the Ladies Pairs Final. Who would have thought I would be winning at sports activities in my 60’s. Life is strange.

Fasting, So far so good today, fasting on water and green tea only, it’s getting closer to dinnertime. Salmon salad an homemade yogurt planned. Really bad headache today which is rare for me, lots of liquids taken so not a hydration issue. Resting and potting up some plants.

Waist Whittling March Challenge- Forgot to say that waist went down 1.5 inches in March so not a total write off, plus I can Hula hoop for Britain now. My gym instructor is most impressed as hooping is part of a circuit she organises, I was always hopeless before, now I don’t drop it at all. Waist definitely feels slimmer and trouser belt moved two notches, all good.

Okeydokey- thanks for running this challenge, I hope I do this one justice.

@and…exhale great article. My OH is a biologist and also a Guardian subscriber, awesome to have an Observer article succinctly and objectively lay out what is known so far, clinically, about fasting. Love this quote ‘One reason for the paucity of studies is the lack of money to be made. With no drugs to sell, drug companies are not testing it. Nobody is suggesting they are sitting on data or getting skinny professors whacked, it’s just that it’s not their responsibility.’
    So darn true.
@okeydokey – great job on April! Thank you 😊

✨✨FD’ers and NFD’ers Keep up the good work today! ✨Keep on, Keepin’ on!✨
    ✨You Can Do It!✨✨✨🌟

Good morning all! New here. I’m intrigued by this WOL and in desperate need for a change. From Wi US. Starting at 232.6lb. Ultimate goal: 108lb. For now, hoping to lose at least 5lb in April. I have a lot of reading up to do on this so tomorrow will be my first FD. Good luck everyone! 🙂

    DAY 3 – UK – NFD

    2nd post

Oh dear I am feeling very tempted by the food I cooked. I am not actually hungry but I really want more… So I am posting here instead of giving in to temptation. I just have to make it to 6pm when I can have a bit more, although I must keep that portion small too. The veg man (For those who don’t know I run an animal sanctuary and we have chap who collects veg from supermarkets that would otherwise be thrown away and gives it to us and to community groups) brought us far more peppers and tomatos than the guinea pigs can eat before it goes off so I made a beautiful sauce and some refried beans and a vegan chick pea cheese substitute topping. It is as close as I can get to enchiladas without an oven or tortillas. And is far too tempting. But I couldn’t let that beautiful veg go to waste, could I? The piggies are in danger of exploding as they have eaten so much. They had a pepper and a pile of cherry tomatoes each both yesterday and today and there is enough for another couple of days if it doesn’t go off. The rabbits all had grapes and strawberries out in their runs and Romaine lettuce and pears for dinner last night. So much food gets thrown away:( But our critters are happy to do their bit to prevent waste:)) Not long to go now…I made it under 200 lbs this morning and my BMI fell below 30. I am no longer obese, just very overweight. I do not want to immediately bounce back into the obese category so I will behave myself. I will. Really.

fatrabbit. Your post gave me a much needed laught! The animals there are certainly very well fed. So well done to you on getting under 200 lb. !! I am on second FD having fasted yesterday also. My salmon fillet and broccoli awaits! Courage. You can do it. X

    Day 3 – SW WA USA – FD 1st of B2B

Okey-dokey – good to see the spreadsheet with beginning info. Thanks for taking care of us this month.

SnowDay – Welcome! You have a huge goal of losing more than 1/2 your weight, if I read that right. You are starting close to where I did. I was at 235 last fall and since October I’ve basically lost 38 pounds. I love the flexibility of the 5:2. I wish you well on this journey. This is a very supportive forum that can help you along the way.

fatrabbit – congratulations for getting below that 200 lbs & into the 100s. That’s a milestone!

    Congrats @fatrabbit!
And, your sauce sounds delicious 😋

    Day 3 – Croatia – NFD
    Weight: 78.8 Kg

    Okeydokey:

    Update for your spreadsheet:
Days 1,2 and 3 all NFDs of one kind or another.
    Fast-days remain elusive. Sigh!

    4th post
    Day 3 – PA,USA – FD

@stone176055 It looks like your doing well. Many people have more energy and can exercise on FD’s about the same as they would on a NFD. They tend to report that they feel better. While fasting after about 12 hours including sleeping hour. Our bodies are using stored fat for energy. Articles and many people have said it is much more efficient than having to digest new food. Also ingesting and using simple sugars doesn’t give a consistent energy supply.
I have seen that skin tightens up a week or month or two ( I guess depending on the person and amount of weight lost) after losing large amounts of fat if weight loss and or maintenance is continued.✨😊
@snowflake56 🏵Thank-you! Hoping your day is going well!✨
    @lynzm 😊🌈✨Wishing you well on your B2B ✨😊You Got This!✨✨We Got You!✨🌈✨
✨Welcome✨Mags-O-Mags Glad you have joined our April group! Please post ( and new members who haven’t done yet, that want to be recorded on our worksheet.) Your starting weight this month, your Goal, Goal weight for April. 🌈✨Thank- you so much!
@and…exhale Thank-you for sharing your experience of success stories with fasting and the Inspiring article in yesterday’s Observer : https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/apr/02/is-fasting-a-free-health-fix-or-just-a-fad-dieting-science-ketagenic-michael-mosley-diabetes-ms

    Day 3 – USA – NFD

3rd post – @Okaydokey, I just looked at the spreadsheet again and today is a NFD; can you please update when you get a chance? Thanks so much! @fatrabbit, good for you

    U.K. Evesham day 3 FD

Weighed in this morning as its a week since I started 230lb, 10lb loss, not getting excited as probs water or other unmentionable things haha. See what happens next Monday, a couple of lbs be nice 😄

Chin (chins in my case) up folks x

    5th post Day 3 – US – FD

I tend to post more on FD’s 😊
@tilllergirl 1 lb lost already in April ✨4lbs lost in 4 weeks. I looks like the 4:3 is really working for you! 💐Keep on, Keepin’ on! 💐

✨🎶😊🎉Congratulations @songbirdme! ✨🎶😊I wish I could have heard you! Big Congratulatory Hugs and flowers 💐💐💐🌹🌹to you!
    Thank-you @maisie1 I was inspired by @johnnyr in the March Challenge. ✨✨
@scs Wishing you well on your 5:2 and planning around work! I know you can do it. Low cal veggie Salad 🥗 for lunch on FD’s. NFD you can handle, just cut back on the simple sugars. I give myself one day a week NFD that I can have, something I’ve put off so I can lose weight. Giving myself that once a week helps me stay motivated for the rest of the week. Maybe it could work for you.😊You Got This!✨Because We’ve got You!✨Together we are Stronger✨🏵

    Day 3 California NFD
meant to be a fast day but already messed up-will start over tomorrow.

@okeydokey Hi, I was fine until I saw the spreadsheet: you made me gain weight overnight! My starting weight at April 1st was 122,6lbs or 55,6 kg. BMI 20,9, I plan to maintain on this level, not on 160lbs with a BMI of 25. Could you please give me my weight back? Imagine I had this weight, I had a long way to go from there.

    2nd post, quick update,🌈

I am on day one of my B2B and usually on FDs I have a dinner, today I had lunch, was away from office and everyone ate lunch together, chicken salad sandwich, so had all my calories and not hungry at all but now home and habit wants me to eat, as “it’s dinner time” .

So needing to not eat I read through the posts, and reading everyone’s commitment and the guardian article that was posted saying that after 12 hours the body is eating fat, after doing a quick a calc. realised that I’m already 6 hours in and do I really want to start all over again, if I wait a few more hours, it will soon be bedtime and my fat will be melting away whilst I am asleep, sounds like a good plan to me. 🏋🏼‍♀️ Being strong!

Thanks for your all your help, beautiful bunch of people 😊

Gonna trial the 16/8 this month, before I’ve just calorie counted on FDs.

@fatrabbit keep strong, MT B2B pocket group I am thinking of u all.

    Day 3 | FD | UK

    Day 3 – UK – FD

My aim for April, since it’s a holiday month for me, is to get to and be able to maintain 61kg. Lower would be better but for a month of more relaxed routine, I’d be delighted with 61kg! Currently at 62.9kg. The slightly more long-term goal is to reach 59kg by the beginning of June.

    Day 3–MA, USA–FD
    Day 2–NFD
    Day 1–NFD

    Evening all,
Nice to think there are a few of us here in Newcastle fasting (I think they were Chumi, steve toon taxi driver & Strawsberriesandcream). Hope it has gone well for you all on this lovely day.

Well end the first FD for this week & do you know, despite a zumba class & a dog walk totalling 8.5miles, I feel good.
Took the tip from Okeydokey to drink the hot lemon & sweetener. Had 2 very large glasses plus H2O in zumba so maybe that is it.

Had dinner & have 200 cals left so having a pear with natural yogurt which will take me to nearly the 800.
Thanks dykask as I had not had a reply. Will look now.
Cheers everyone as thinking about all of us fasting certainly helped me. Good luck for tomorrows pockereers.

@hereigo the signing up to be a Pocketeer is a long standing tradition. That allows people to be in a group that has the same goals for the day. A challenge like a FD. It could also be a group that is getting through a controlled NFD. We can each write the name of the individuals in the group to show we are together on support of each other going through it together, wishing each other well. We put it on our Pocket list….maybe on our phones or computers (symbolic list) and keep the group of Pocketeers close✨ Giving good wishes and support!
@snowflake56 ✨So sorry I will update it with your correct weight….Glad you caught it. One of the reasons I wanted you to review it, I’ve had a lot of information to put in the worksheet in the past 3 days. ✨🏵

Sorry that should have been thanks Chumi for the information about TDEE. Sorry

    Day 4 – NZ – NFD

Day 3 – Edinburgh uk- FD, had 1/2 grapefruit, 2 rice cakes and 2 eggs with 4 slices nimble and scrape of cheese, bang on 500 calories, off to bed in a bit, starting to get used to diet

    Day 3 – Durham UK – NFD

Went a little crazy today – it’s my day at home with baby, and the usual lure of the fridge was made worse by a trip over the weekend to a lovely farm shop… I succumbed. Shortbread. Cinder toffee. Sausages and mash for tea. Each okay in moderation, but in combination probably not the best menu for an NFD. Never mind, because…

Tomorrow is the start of my planned B3Bs for April. I am determined. Weights starting with 7 are in my sights! 🎯

@at – you made me laugh! I love that philosophy, and will now apply 5:2 to all irritating aspects of my life 😉 Cleaning, laundry, talking to the in-laws 😬 – sorry MIL, this week you had Sunday/ Monday and I’m afraid you’ve missed it. Better luck next week 😇

@coda – hope all is well with you. x

Onwards and downwards, my friends! April – you are toast. 👊💪 🤝

    Day 3 2nd post,

Finally caught up with all the posts, I hope everyone had a successful FD, NFD or CD!!

My own FD went really well and turned out to be a 23:1 rather than my usual FD 19:5. As with March, I’m leaning towards ADF………….but it’s early days yet and I’m centring April on the very scientific………..…….’No pressure BUT, …………………How do I feel today’ method!!! As long as I have the minimum 2 FDs /wk I’ll be happy because I know that works, ADF or 4:3 just keeps me on my toes and I tend not to overeat on NFDs because yesterday was, most likely, a tummy shrinking feel-good FD!!

@fatrabbit……..happy dance, happy dance, may you never see 200 again!!…………………..I’m picturing the bunnies and Guinea pigs watching you in amusement as you dance around them!!!

@goldensun…………fingers crossed for the post holiday weigh-in, up or down, with this WOL you have the tools to deal with either!!!! Mmmmmhhh I would have had trouble resisting the Tapas!!!

@bert1802, calorie counting and daily weigh-ins are the ONLY things keeping me on track. I’m forever telling people I’ve got a terrible ‘eye’ (not great for a civil engineer) so I know I couldn’t guesstimate a ‘normal’ portion to save my life!!!!!!

@okeydokey, it’s not critical (I know my goal!), but my aim to lose 5lbs+ this month has been lost from the spreadsheet, WOW, 139 members (and more every day), you’ve got your work cut out!!! Good Luck!!!

Keep the faith everyone, this is the ONLY thing that works!!! (for me anyway!!)

Hi Okeydokey, thanks for all the time and effort you’re putting into the April challenge. Day 2 for me was a NFD and day 3 is a FD. Many thanks

Australia Day 3 – FD; had some lamb in the evening but otherwise was liquid-only

    Australia Day 4 – NFD

2nd post of the day. Logging in to post because I felt a terrible urge to say to heck with my FD, I want to eat a big meal!! But knowing that we all are here in it together gave me the motivation to stay strong. Everyone’s posts are so inspiring.

So I am having a cup of broth and am soldiering on. What’s a little hunger anyway? I’m here in my comfortable home office with my sweet golden retriever puppy and I will have a nice 400-calorie dinner with my husband and 6-year old daughter in 3 hours. Hunger is such a powerful urge but in the bigger picture, the suffering of a few hunger pangs is really not that big of a burden to bear. I just have to keep this in perspective!!!

    Still Day 3 –

HHQ – good for you riding the hunger wave. I’m working on my tax prep in my home office during a sunny spring break day. It’s been a little more challenging this FD but I agree the posts help. Also, knowing that hunger comes in waves is helpful. It passes. A cup of broth has been helpful today for me also. Plus I enjoyed a cup of chocolate mint tea – starting with some mint tea, stirring in a tsp. of cocoa powder & a little stevia. So good! Just had a tummy growl – Must be burning the fat!

    Day 4 / UK / NFD

Wooow, that NFD is needed; those B2B FDs have been tough! The break-up in late Feb (hence the name, for those aware of Bon Iver) is still lingering, maybe lingering even more now than over large parts in March. I’ve got application writing to do, from which I only too happily procrastinate and why not going back to obsessing about whether the ex and I may or may not have a future down the line again?! Uhh! Over this FDing has been quite hard and even the exercise classes have been losing their appeal 30 min in. I have been pushing through both (with the odd peanut butter spoon, which is NOT going to be bought again btw). That the scales just won’t budge isn’t helping. I am not to be swayed off 5:2, or rather AFD with a Sun/Mon B2B, but I am a little unsure where and how to up my game even more. I even finally gave in and started yet another round of MFP. I figure most of my meals are the same so after putting everything in the first time it’ll be much easier. I’ll take a few days off over Easter–should still be able to squeeze a good amount of FDs around the weekend, but I do hope that going back to a more mindful 5:2 after that triggers a new downward spiral.

    Day 4 NZ NFD
Sorry not to have posted since the beginning of the month. We have been away for a few days and I didn’t go near a computer. Lots of posts already so I will try and catch up when I have a bit of time later today.

    Day 2 – CARDIFF UK – NFD
    Day 3 – CARDIFF UK – FD

    Starting Weight : 160.8lbs

@okeydokey, starting weight for your spreadsheet is above.

    Can I join please?

    Day 1 UK NFD
    Day 2 NFD
    Day 3 FD

78.8kg starting weight. Aiming for -3kg across April to get to 75.8kg 🙂

Good luck to all. Fasters…. Go for it!!! WoHoo!

    Day 3 Surrey UK FD

Didn’t do too badly today, although could have been a bit stricker with myself. I hope it was a good day for everyone.

    Day 3 – Scotland – NFD

Had half intended to fast today, as I was getting a procedure done in the hospital today and thought the pain/nerves would stop me eating. As it turns out, I felt sorry for myself and needed some food for comfort. Managed to keep it healthy enough, aside from 2 pieces of baklava at 95 calories each! Still, definitely under my 1800 TDEE. Feeling bad though as I normally walk between 10,000 and 15,000 steps a day, but today (due to the hospital visit) I have only hit about 4000 🙁 Hoping to pick things up a bit for the rest of the week – I am bad for letting one bad day set me back, and I need to remember that this is a long term diet change, and that it will balance out. Beating myself up won’t help anything!

First FD of the month tomorrow. I am feeling okay about it – just need to focus. I am thinking that I will try and not eat until the evening, as I am finding that a small meal at work at lunchtime just seems to enhance my hunger.

Great seeing everyone’s updates! Very inspiring.

    Day 4/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Yesterday’s fast day went well despite ending with a visual migraine. I’m lucky I only have zig zag auras without the accompanying headache but it left me feeling weak and dissociated. I didn’t feel like cooking but needed to eat. A couple of hard boiled eggs and a half avocado with s&p proved very satisfying. I’m still feeling woozy this morning. Good luck fellow pocketeers, I have your names under my pillow!

@at I noticed the similarities. I’m British by birth. In the 70s I returned to England and married a Londoner. We do have a very similar approach to 5:2 and determination to make this a WOL. I also noticed your lowest weight point was the same as mine. Unfortunately or fortunately (I haven’t decided which) my body insists on ratcheting up to 56 kg and desperately seems to want to stay there. 56 Kg has become my new trigger point. It used to be my Weight Watchers goal of 59kg.

Welcome to all newbies. This is a great WOL. Staying mindful on NFDs is the key. The basic 5:2 really can work. But since we are all different tweak it to suit after all the best diet is the one you can sustain.

Congratulations to everyone else for sticking around whether struggling or flying along. Together we are stronger. Wagons ho!

    Hi uk day 3 fd

Still here, taking a day at a time x

Thank you very much @annemarilyn for yours words of encouragement! I’ll need all the help I can get. I’m excited about this because there’s some accountability here. Plus I look forward to having peers who are going through the same process. Everyone seems very supportive. I realize it will take a long time but I feel like I might actually have a shot at getting through this successfully.

Hi. Please consider me for April challenge. I’m from Australia and my goal is to lose 2 kg in April.

    Day 3 / Sweden / NFD

I normally fast to Mondays and Thursdays but circumstances necessitate a change this week. Today I was showing 18 exchange students from France around Stockholm. No fasting but we did walk 18000 steps. We’ll do the same thing tomorrow (well, not exactly the same, that would be silly). They return to France early Wednesday morning so I plan to fast Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday, I’m taking two of my students to Göteborg on the other coast of Sweden (more walking!) So I’m not sure when my second fast day will be. I’ll see how Friday unfolds.

    Take care

Thank.you Okey dokey for all of your extra time in helping the April challenge group track their goals and activity in a spread sheet. Tracking 140 participants is amazing.

    Day 3 – Berlin, Germany – NFD

pretty bad food day. oh well. onwards and downwards.
