    Day 17 – NFD – Canada
    Will catch up tomorrow morning!

    Day 17 | FD | Bucks UK

Day 18 Tasmania Aus NFD 63.8 kgs

I finished by b2b2b with some late breakfast out with my husband and daughter, couldn’t finish it which was actually a great feeling. Am very happy to miss breakfast, I love feeling the apprtite reset after fd’s.
@bert1802 it’s been lovely and warm in your pocket, I’ve been thinking of you, I know you can do this. ☺ I hope things work out with your mother. How stressful to be trying to track her down from so far away! Really impressed with you that you kept fasting despite the stress! You can do this. You will feel really accomplished when you finished and whether or not you do another b2b2b it’s great to see that you can take control of your body and mind like this. That’s what I feel anyway, empowered by it!

Day 18 country west Australia NFD
Would like to attempt another FD but still getting over the headache from Tuesday’s FD. Feeling a bit better each day but it really knocked the stuffing out of me. ( should be lighter without the stuffing !!)
Alas still the same weight even though I haven’t eaten to TDEE for 3 days due to not feeling well.
Will wait to see what the next few days feel like.
Oddly enough when headache was monstering me Tuesday and Wednesday I really felt like my brain wanted glucose – not my body but my brain. ?? for metabolism. When I feel better I will look up brain requirements for proper function.

    Day 18 – Tokyo Japan – NFD 78.9kg

FD yesterday was easy. I’m pretty sure it is the workouts interfering with my weight, however I’m at a point were exercise while fasting helps reduce any hunger. However what I like best about 5:2 is eating on NFDs!

@johnnyr – I figured you weren’t too serious, at least with the cling wrap. 4.5 years ago I was really fat, slowing down and headed for the grave. At that point I was naturally into cheating and I didn’t really care that much. What difference does it make if you aren’t going to be around long? However now I have most of the weight off and I find I’m interested in honesty with what is going on with my body. Now I’m planning for another 3 or more decades. (Mentally I’m thinking 5 but that might require some medical intervention.) What a difference a few (tens of) kgs make!

@scs – Maine really has been hit with all the snow we normally get here in northern Illinois (due west of Chicago), but we’ve had none for over a month, about 6 weeks! Crazy winter. We also had exchange students, AFS (American Field Service), girls, one from Norway and the other Germany. I also remember the way they began to think in English. Our Norwegian gal went on to be a school teacher, teaching English. We got to go to her wedding in 2002. Our German works for Lufthansa. It’s been fun to keep up with them on Facebook.

Yes, I would say for me 5:2 became a WOL over time. I’ve been on it 11 months. But because I really don’t want to gain any back, I’m just as judicious about weighing in every day.

@eternallygrateful – yes! Hasn’t this weather just been incredible! So many people in my neighborhood were out walking, kids out playing. I think we broke a record at 62′ today!

@august2024 – fascinating article about ageing and the brain/body. Interesting to read those myths. I’m 68 and trying to stay as “young” as I can!

    Day 18 – Perth AUS – NFD

I’ve been getting ultra tired after meals. Dr Google informed me this was due to insulin resistance, but I have routine blood tests due to other previous health problems and I’m within normal range for everything, so I wasn’t convinced. Plus, it didn’t seem to matter what I ate… One night this week I slept for 12 hours after eating a vegie only dinner!

Finally went to my GP yesterday and he suggested I up my protein intake, as fasting has reduced my protein intake dramatically. Really should have paid attention to the recipes section of the book, huh.

Weigh in day for me tomorrow. I’m not expecting any weight loss this week, but hoping to see some reduction round the tummy region. Less than two weeks left! Where did the time go!?

Congratulations to everyone making progress, no matter what kind it may be.

    Day 18 UK FD

Hi all, so this weekend I have no plans and over the last few weeks have been very busy, now I have nothing planned and even though I’ve been looking forward to this I now find when I get here I feel a little sad, don’t know why, guess I thrive on being busy! Which I never thought was me.

Sometimes you just wake up and it’s a sad day and lethargic day and can’t be bothered to do anything day. Feels so silly saying it as I know it’s preferable to bad stuff happening. So why do you sometimes feel like this?

So I’m thinking gym, get that feel good and relaxed after a workout feeling even though it’s the last thing I want to do, I have also made this a Fast Day, that will stop the comfort eating.

@elektron thanks for the info. on protein I will try that as I too feel really tired after a meal, and started sleeping late at weekends if no alarm wakes me up. I put it down to winter and low Vitamin D (as that’s in the news lately) so upped the vitamins. I will try the protein approach too.

Have a good successful happy day all!

    Cheerio x

    Day 18 UK FD

Bit of a headache this morning but I don’t want to take ibuprofen on an empty stomach or break my fast so I’m going to tough it out. Coffee may help. Scales this morning are .4lb down on Weds so I have held onto the big loss. Yay:) I thought it might bounce up again.

It looks like another grey day:( Yesterday was a bit better. The sun makes such a difference to mood I find. But it is warmer so that is something. The snowdrops are lovely and the plum blossom looks ready to burst open as soon as the sun deigns to touch them. Come on Mr Sun!

    Day 18 Belfast NFD

    DAY 18 – UK – NFD

Yesterday was warm(!) and sunny here in Bucks. We had a lovely day with the grandkids – spent the day outside cycling around Eton Olympic Rowing Lake without coats!!! Was so hoping we would have two days in a row, but no such luck. It is foggy this morning, Our Southern Hemisphere friends probably think we’re crazy living in a country where we spend our life longing for a bit of sunshine. MY NFD included a delicious fish and chip lunch – and surprisingly on the scales this morning my weight was down from yesterday. Only put on a lb. this month despite my holiday, so when Monday comes and I can start a few fd’s may still make a loss for the month albeit a little one Yay!

LynzM – why not go for a little walk instead of the gym! If you walk somewhere green
it really does lift the spirits…..is there a National Trust property near you? If I’m on my own and feel a bit down, I go to our nearest it’s nice and safe for a woman to walk on her own – have a coffee and read the papers – it always does the trick for me. Good luck xx

    Day 18 – Switzerland – NFD

Sun is shining here – stay positive everyone!

    Day 18, Newcastle UK, NFD

OK, so yesterday didn’t go to plan but I am still feeling happy, positive and guilt free because I know I am in control. I chose to go to the pub with OH for a couple of beers after a lovely walk in the sun. Certainly feels like Spring has Sprung. Whilst I’m not going to have an emergency fast day to negate yesterday’s 381 calories above TDEE (plan had been to stay around BMR), I shall be more mindful today and by bedtime any damage will be undone. Another sunny day with a good forecast for the week ahead which means I can start gardening again. I’m involved in getting a big anti-litter project underway with the council and am going litter picking tomorrow morning. Anything that involves more exercise and fresh air plus a feeling of satisfaction has got to be good.

@lilymartin – I read in Dr. John Briffa’s book that in the absence of any carbohydrate in the diet, the body is able to make glucose from protein and fat. Whilst I’m sure none of us would want to cut out all carbs (good veg & fruit), you may be interested in reading the science behind it.

    Have a good Saturday everyone.

Day 18, UK NFD -1 lb so down 7 lbs this month 😁

Yesterday’s fast day was tough as I was playing bowls and being tempted by fresh jam donuts and chocolate biscuits at 5 pm when I was very hungry. But I looked at the group of 7 other women 5 of whom were obese and resisted. I knew my dinner last night was going to be ‘award winning’ fish and chips as I was attending a Race Night at another bowls club. It was worth the wait, delicious. Usually I only eat 6 chips but last night I ate the lot. I did remove the batter though I have never much liked it even crispy. I feel proud that I can resist temptation now, it wasn’t possible 3 years ago. I have made progress and it shows on my waistline.

The bowls community is very old fashioned regarding healthy food, very rarely is anything on offer for vegetarians without special prior arrangements. It’s all about tea and cakes or biscuits for snack. I used to take fruit but now I avoid eating altogether, it is tough and I stand alone in my efforts to eat healthily but as it is a sport I do 5 times a week I need to take control. When I say I don’t eat sugar they treat me like a weirdo but I am shrinking while they expand, it’s a fact.

Be strong fellow fasters, it’s the only way.

Catch up on other posts tonight, busy thread.

    Day 18 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Drizzly old day here – looks set to stay all day.

Successful (water and tea with a dash of skimmed milk) 40hr FD yesterday – broke my fast with a healthy brunch at 1130 this morning.

Still maintaining well – weight this morning 54.6kg/120lbs 6ozs – so still staying below that 55kg target weight! Been following this WOL since January 2016 and have no plans of straying. In maintainance I’m doing 2 x FDs a week and eat what I fancy on the other 5 days following a 16:8 NFDs system as I never seem to wake up feeling hungry and I weigh once a week after my 2nd FD for consistency.

Huge congratulations to those who completed their b2b2b – great effort! @bert1802 @lou Belles

@johnnyr – your posts always make me laugh – I was trying to imagine you wrapping cling film round yourself, sweating away then holding your breath to measure…….LOL. On a separate note 5 x FDs in a row might not be such a good idea…..and sometimes reducing our calorie intake too much actually stops us losing weight and it will certainly not be sustainable in the long run – 5:2 is a forever WOL not a diet! Good luck with your journey.
@lynzm – plan on doing something for you – some regular “me time” is essential for our mental well being in my book – hope you enjoy whatever you choose to do this weekend.
@august2024 – thanks for the article link about brain/body ageing

Wishing everyone a great weekend, whatever you are doing – stay mindful in your eating habits and “Have pride in how far you have come. Have faith in how far you can go.”

Day 18– Colorado USA — NFD

Whew! Made it thru my first week back at work! Long 11- 12 hour shifts of very physical work.

Looking forward to some relaxing time with my feet up this weekend! And some bike riding with DH as the weather is forecasted to be beautiful. And long walks with my doggy who’s missed me being home. (I really got to spoil my fur-babies while on Medical Leave.)

We have a family vacation to a sunny beach location coming up in 6 weeks. I’m thinking I should use that time frame to go DRY. Ditch all the alcohol for the full 6 weeks. Plus, recommit to stricter (not half-arsed!) Fast Days.

    DAY 18 – Cardiff UK – NFD

    Starting weight : 173.3lb

    Today’s 7eight : 165.1lb (8.2lb) Feb target 8.3lb

Good FD yesterday but feeling a bit hungry towards the end, so had a coffee with a little cream and all good again.

We’re on the home straight now for Feb challenge now, not that anything in particular will change at the end of the month, but it’s good to have a point at which to stop and reflect on what went well, or where we’ve slipped up and if there is a pattern to it.

Being part of this challenge has been really motivating, when you’re struggling you know your not alone, and everyone has ups and downs at different times, so there’s always someone to help you back on the wagon. I’ve not particularly struggled with FD this month, but I have gained from reading posts from everyone else.

    Thanks everyone for being there.

    Day 18…… Florida…… NFD

Mid Jan. was the last entry, I put in the fast tracker. I won’t put a entry in unless, I’ve lost weight. Well seeing it’s official weigh in day, I’m back down to 149. I hoping that it’s here to stay and not just popping into say hi before it disappears again.
If it does stay, wishful thinking here, this means I have got month or 4 weeks depending on how you want to look at it to lose 9lbs. Realistically, I’ll only probably be able to lose 4lbs but what the heck. Either go big or go home….. isn’t that the saying!

Thank you all for the well wishes of my mom. I was able to speak with her nurse and get some of the details regarding her situation. My mom had 4 children, me being the youngest. However, there is only two of us still alive. So, it’s just me and my sister, she was the second born. My brother and sister both died in their early 50’s from not odd things but not normal either. So, we now are in the position to have to decide what actions, we are going to take seeing we both live so far from her. She’s 86 and as hard headed as they come, so this is no easy task. As it stands, she is still in the hospital and they have set up a team of after care to come in and help where needed and evaluate if she is still capable of living alone, driving and caring for herself. I’m thankful for that, because God knows she won’t listen to me or my sister.
I’ll be home mid March, for only a long weekend, so I’ll have to get as much done as possible while filling other commitments that are the reason I’m heading home in the first place.
Quick update on the work and the new girl. Wed. was a terrible day at work. It finally came to a head with me trying to do my own job then the added stress of doing hers because she was not retaining the information. I lost my cool….. something that is so out of the ordinary for me. The owners finally had a sit down with her and gave her two weeks to get her head in the game. She did very well on Thurs. but I saw her sliding back, slowly on Fri. So, it’s a wait and see type of atmosphere now.

I’m sorry, I rambled for a minute. I felt so disconnected from me and my weigh loss goals and my support group that my ramblings needed to help bridge that gap.

Well, busy day for me. Post office, grocery store, hair dressers, I finally hit my goal!, and stop by to get a pair of pants altered, then get this house back in order! So, I will touch base with you all this evening!

    New goal…..145lbs…… manicure and pedicure!

    Cheerio!

    Day 18 – USA – FD

    Day 18 USA FD

Hit target of breaking 140 lbs! Started Jan 1 and today down 13 lbs. — bam!!!!! I’m okay if I average 1 lb per week at this point moving forward although won’t complain if it averages out to 1.5 per week.

My recent FDs have consisted of going from a midday meal to the next midday or dinner to dinner. The midday meal I’ve read is optimal although a little harder for me as I do like to eat around 6 pm over a lunch time meal and then holding off until the next day as evenings seem to drag on. Over the past 7 weeks I’ve had a handful of blow out days where I just ate whatever sounded good throwing caution to the wind. It’s kept me sane and doesn’t seem to have had any lasting negative impact but instead has made this s WOL sustainable.

I’m attending a 5 day meeting currently and will most likely go dinner to dinner with an occasional lunch in order to be social.

    Stay Strong everyone!

    Day 18, London, UK, NFD

Day 17, Planned FD turned into a NFD, Self sabotaging at the moment, maybe because it’s ToM????

No excuses though………..Don’t buy crap (read – doughnuts, cake, biscuits) unless you plan to eat it!!! I have no such plan, and for the last 6 weeks I’ve looked at the ‘treat’ cupboard with a certain level of smugness that I could ‘Look But don’t touch’ with ease.

Well it got harder than I could take, so I’ve filled the bin and that’s that, no self flagellation, just pulling up my big girl pants and getting back on the wagon/ horse…….Onward and downwards. Weigh-in tomorrow, thinking positively.

I just have to not get complacent, some days are so easy I think…I’ve got this!!!’ whereas I should be saying ‘I’m still getting this!!!!’ 17.5lbs down since Nov 1st incl. +8lb blip over Xmas (complacency again!!) isn’t to be sniffed at so, still keeping the faith!

    Good luck everyone!!

    Day 18: FD Az USA.

I have been so busy these last few days, I’ve missed the support of this global fasting group!! I’ll make sure to stay on top of posts… holey Moley you miss a ton of you don’t log in for a day.

Day 18, NFD, Rocky Mountains, US

Day 18 USA (Illinois) – NFD

Crazy scale. ONE day right at TDEE and I am back up over 160#. Crazy. I’m just going to have to reevaluate what TDEE really needs to be. Plus I did my Silver Sneakers class yesterday of 45 minutes, mixed exercises. Maintenance is hard!

Gorgeous day though. I’m spending much of it in my car going to see granddaughters in a play, so hopefully won’t over eat if we are able to go out to late lunch or early dinner. Will just have to see.

Hugs to you all — onward and downward!

    Day 18, UK, NFD.
Seriously behind on reading posts so plan to sit down tomorrow when I’ve more time and catch up.
Yesterday’s FD was fine, just slightly over my daily allowance by 38 calories. I have had a light lunch today in anticipation of having a couple of drinks this evening and a hearty breakfast tomorrow. Next planned FD is Monday.

@blueninjamum, sorry for only replying now but I’ve not had a chance yet to catch up with posts from Valentine’s Day. I do hope you get somewhere with the supplements and feel better. Since diagnosis 5 years ago, I have injections from my practice nurse every 3 months and supplement this with self injections when I feel very fatigued as I can’t absorb B12 any other way. Breathlessness and brain fog are symptoms of PA so I now have a great excuse for my lifelong appalling memory! I am a member of the PA society, if you’ve not already been on the site it is worth a look just for information about the condition.

This is the first time I’ve done the 5:2 diet and feel better for it because I have more energy and that’s the most debilitating part of PA, the fatigue is just awful.

    Happy weekend all.

    Day 18 | NFD | Bucks UK

    Day 18- Montreal- NFD

    Day 18 NFD Oman
    16:8 today
    FD tomorrow

    Day 18 Maine NFD

Good morning all! Had a pretty successful NFD yesterday – we did go out for burgers, but instead of fries, I had a small salad & no alcohol! Boy, this not drinking is saving us a lot of money! I was thinking I would only eat half the bun, but it sorted melted into the burger, so I succumbed to the whole thing! Home to yogurt & fresh strawberries on a chocolate vita muffin top for dessert – really yummy – like a sundae! Kitchen here closed at 7:00. Planning on doing 16/8 today – tho, I did have some skim milk in coffee, so not a true fast. I need to work on black coffee – can do tea black, but coffee is a challenge. Weird, ice coffee is always black. I can do better – I’ll work on it!

Off for my beach “therapy” walk – temp is warming & tide low. Haven’t planned dinner yet, so better put my mind on it or I’ll go awry!

    @at – loved today’s motivational sentiment! Thanks!

@ Songbirdme – one of our Japanese exchange students is an English teacher in Japan! We all laugh at that – he mostly learned English watching Beavis & Butthead w/my son & his friends!

Day 18 – SW WA USA – NFD

Yay for goals met Bert & Laddie10.

I am traveling but making good decisions so far.

    Day 18 Virginia (USA) FD
    Weight on Feb 1st, 176 lbs. – today, 168

Day 15-16 were FDs which ended shortly after a trip the grocery. A holiday is coming up so I’m moving my FD from Monday to Saturday, a work day for me. I don’t think I could manage a FD at home.

    LynzM,
It sounds like your immunity is low, have you tried making Kefir? It may be the boost your body needs. Water or milk version grains are available on line but avoid capsules of powder as live grains are more economical. You just add whole milk to the grains daily. Drink 4 to 6 oz daily either first thing on an empty stomach or last thing which is great to induce good sleep.

I am so pleased with my weight loss this month that I am going to change my goal to 10 lbs, already lost 7 so that leaves me 3 to go. I am doing this because I am going away for 4 days so I want to keep in check and on target. Otherwise I will say ‘Oh well I was over my goal for this month anyway, why not treat myself’ PREPERATION is everything. What have I done! Hope I am not pushing my luck!

Good Luck Fasters, be strong, forget sugar, forget processed food, restrict alcohol and try 23/1 everyday- it really works! 2 to 3 fasts per week are doable and healthy eating 7 days per week. YOU CAN DO THIS IF I CAN!

    Day 18: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD

    Day. 18, Gozo Malta, NFD

NFD for me today. I’m 0.5 kilo above target.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Day 18, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Typed a long post earlier but it seems to have disappeared.

I shall just say, everything is going well and wish the same for each of you.

    Day 18 – NFD – Canada
It’s terrically warm for Canada right now in SW Ontario. Begs for walks in the sunshine. Hard not to be happy. Thanks @curlytot for your info – I’m glad you are feeling good on 5:2! Me, too.
Pre-menopausal/perimenopausal ladies on 5:2 – has anyone else noticed stalled weight loss at the height of PMS symptoms (the week before the end of cycle)? I’ve noticed it both months.

    Day 18, Oceanside CA, NFD

Middle NFD on weekend. Scale showed another half pound loss. Very happy with program and progress. 6.9 pounds over 13 weeks, so half a pound per week. Within 2 lbs of initial goal.

Maintaining 4 to 5 miles per day walking and step count average 13,500 or more each day. Exercise keeps appetite happy.

Doing regular 5:2 with nighttime fast 16 hours. All good.

    Day 18, FD, USA
Doing a weekend B2BFDs to get back into motivation/determination. I was so strong for the first 14 days of this February challenge, then plunged into a binge day that I couldn’t recover from. It was horrible and went to bed with a big tummy ache; need to get what’s “eating me” under control (anxiety) and not let the food eat me.

Laddie: congratulations. You broke the 140’s. that is my goal for February, which is doable; and most of my 40s (I’m 49) I’ve been in the 120s, so I need to get back to that weight as that was my happy place.

blueinjamum: definitely stalled if not increase in weight before period. for me it’s a few pounds of bloat; i can tell by looking at my rings; they’re all tight!

I’m thinking I can do this weekend fasting, which would get my motivation and metabolism back. This WOL is such good training in learning to live with food and not to overeat for various reasons.

    Day 19 NZ nfd

    Day 18 / U.K / NFD

    Day 18|CD| Toronto
Warm weather with clear blue sky on the Saturday of a long weekend;life is good!

Hi all uk day 18 nfd

@bert I love hearing from you, its like a soap on TV waiting for the next episode or a good book turning the next page to see how it all pans out. Hope things work out for you and your mum’s situation x

    Aus Day 19 NFD

Very similar experience that steffieagle has had- slow but steady weight loss – in myt 7th week and lost 8 pounds. Of course I want it to be more dramatic but that is unrealistic. I am actually looking forward in a weird way to the “fast” days – something about not having to think about my diet for those days. The 500 calories is just enough to keep me from going crazy. It sure has shown me that bread and related foods are caloric.

Best of luck to you all. It is really helpful reading about other’s experiences, isn’t it?

Day 18 Ireland NFD! Love NFDs…I appreciate my food so much more!

    Hello February Fasters,

We are a team, let’s help each other to get to our goals for this month.

We all have high’s and lows, nobody is perfect, just move on quickly after a crash.

The guilt serves no purpose, stress is harmful to the body.

Sing, bath, walk, kiss, swim, do yoga, watch TV, listen to music or whatever else floats your boat.

RELAX, ENJOY YOUR LIFE, FOOD SHOULD NOT BE THE MAIN FOCUS, Allocate it a maximum of one hour a day, use the other 23 for other more important things like work, rest and play.

    Wishing you all success

    Day 19 – Perth AUS – NFD

    D1 weight: 74.0kg / 163.1 pounds
    D5 weight: 70.1kg / 154.5 pounds
    D12 weight: 69.8kg / 153.88 pounds
    D19 weight: 69.7kg / 153.66 pounds

Original target was 70-ish kg, then I revised it to 68kg. Should have stuck to 70-ish given I haven’t really lost anything for the last 2 weeks! I did pig out a bit yesterday though. Was feeling sorry for myself after seeing the doctor Friday. S-I-L-L-Y! He was actually quite positive about things, so not sure why I reacted the way I did. Old habits die hard, I guess. Prone to always hearing anything even slightly negative MUCH louder than anything positive. Pretty sure 99% of what he said was positive and the only remotely negative thing was him suggesting a slight tweak to the diet, but BAM! *FAILURE BELLS RINGING*. Result: drinking copious amounts of soft drink and eating cheeseburgers and Tim Tams. Sitting here now thinking about it, it’s so silly! All I can do is laugh at myself and move on. Not doing it again! 🙂 Not to mention, there’s only one Tim Tam left 🙁 Could have saved that pack as treats for the week, but oh well 🙁

In reality, maintaining a 4kg drop is a GOOD THING and a massive change for me, who has been unhealthily overweight for the last 7 years. The only time I’ve around 70kg in recent years was following an intensive exercise program (suggested by my health insurer haha!) but of course it was hard work, and as soon as the personal trainer left me to my own devices, I simply stopped. This WOL is entirely run by me. It’s easy, convenient and I don’t feel any urge to quit (unlike the training). This week I lost another cm off my top and middle Michelin Woman rolls and for the first time my thunder thigh measurement too! That’s positive, so going to focus on that and do a bit more HIIT (read: actually DO IT every day) and do alternating fast days this week. I don’t like my chances of dropping 2kg before Feb 28, but I’ll give it my best shot. Maybe the little diet tweak will help.

It’s so great to see people checking in with positivity. It really helps shoo the negative thought gremlins away. It’s also amazing and inspiring to see just how many of you have been able to keep positive frames of mind despite some incredibly tough life challenges from work, home, relationships, family, health… or a combination! As I said last weigh in day, everyone in this thread is awesome, and I’m not making that up 🙂

    Have a great day, all!
