Day 2 – August – NFD
Starting weight:162 lbs
August goal: 160 lbs
Hi everyone
I’m in and thanks for hosting Auspicious August @flourbaby – what an intro!!!! and thanks @hedwig6 for setting up the spreadsheet. My goals this month are to use MFP, reach overall goal. Cut sugar and alcohol from week 2 – holiday with friends this week.
So to introduce myself, I’m in my very late forties, The first challenge I joined was October 2017…and I’ve been intermittently fasting in all senses of that phrase 😂 since. Sometimes it’s just hard to do but you fall off and you just climb back on again… 🧗♂️
My name is a play on words as I am a french speaker so “J’ai faim” means “I’m hungry” but also stands for Just Another Intermittent Fast And I’ll Maintain… I’ve never actually got to maintenance but I’m just 2lbs off my overall goal so, For the first time I believe I will 💪
I love being outdoors even in our lovely Irish weather and I am a club cyclist, play tennis, love hiking and have been doing Joe Wicks. He is one of my Covid heroes 🌟
I am planking each day too – I can’t remember who started that challenge but I stuck with it as I don’t do much resistance work…I’m at 4 minutes now @brightonbelle… 🤸♂️ It’s sore and I have to switch from full to elbow sometimes but feel it makes me stronger in body and mind.
I’m pretty much staying away from alcohol 🚫 so “on the dry” most of the time and have reduced added sugars ✅ as much as I can. I’m going to reintroduce my little emojis at the start of my posts as it helps when I track back… this week I’m on hols so may have some drinks 🍸 🍺 🤗
I’m a firm believer in Life is for living and like others I tend to have one blowout (EFS) day a week where I eat crisps, a little chocolate etc – it has to be done 😊
On Friday I reached an ATL of 159 Whoo hoo 🎉 but as predicted it didn’t hang around.. I started July at 166.5 and my July goal was 163.5 lb. I’m thrilled to say that today I start the month at 162 so a loss of 4.5 lbs last month… I’d say that’s my biggest drop in a long long time 👍
Welcome back @at and @michelinme (so glad you are ok!)! Welcome to all the newbies! This month will be fun 😆🤣
Thanks for all your kind thoughts gang 💕. I am heading home today as my dad is not doing so great in hospital and mum has to be cared for now as he is not there at all… so this week may be a mix of caring and time with friends as my siblings are also around or my plans may completely change… 🙏🤞💕
Love to all and have a great day wherever you are.

Day 2 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD 🏍
It’s bank holiday Sunday and DH and myself are off out on the motorcycle for a spin around the Midlands today. Looking forward to getting out and about! And as it’s Sunday, it will start with a cooked breakfast of sausages and eggs.
I only eat breakfast at the weekend and I Look forward to it. From Tuesday it will be zero until at least 13.30 when I break my fast.
@michelinme so happy to see you back and so sorry to hear about your Covid. You have had such a health journey recently and I wish you a good recovery. We missed you here.
Have a great Sunday everyone. 🏍🏍🏍
Day 2 – Lake district UK – CD
Good morning everyone
Super Saturday yesterday, never still! Sort out prep in the ‘brew house’ then a decent walk, back and brew the beer, gardening, then early evening out for a drive round some old haunts we’ve never visited for years! Didn’t settle onto the sofa until 9pm! Slept like a log last night, 2 hr 35 min deep sleep 5 hr 19 light, still waking up!
@jaifaim – Like you I have my one ‘day off 5:2’ each week, either Friday or Saturday. But have found that even then the one thing that has gone, snacking! Just don’t bother, in fact think the mindset has gone to automatic pilot, even when I know it’s my ‘day off’ I don’t go looking for food, now that’s a result for me. I used to be a constant grazer, cake, biscuits etc, but no, a pack of my favourite small biscuits has lasted for a couple of months now which is unheard of!
Unusual target for me this month, July was very busy and the only daily calories logged properly on MFP app were FD’s. Was that busy concentrating on the DIY project neglected to log everything, luckily no damage done, but, could easily slide into bad habit, so as from today everything gets logged again. It’s not particularly difficult and I find it keeps me focused.
@michelinme – hope there’s no long lasting effects from your C19.
Take care all
Happy Sunday Everyone
Stayed to plan yesterday, intend to do the same today. I can’t read all the previous posts as they are on the previous page. After posting I’ll catch up.
Welcome back @at … I can’t remember if I posted that before 🥴
@Daffodil2910 enjoy your bike ride. Lovely day for it.
@jaifaim great loss for July!
@kazoo & @murielpuce welcome to our happy place 😊
Have a great day whatever you’re doing. Me? chilli’ in the garden, drinking sparkling water over ice and a slice and looking forward to a Spicy Chicken Burrito Bowl later 😋

I agree, @ihatelettuce. Once you’ve managed to build a habit, it’s fairly easy. I wonder if all the obesity we see around is due to snacking – never giving the body chance to drop insulin levels. Sounds like you’ve got it taped….
Day 2….. Florida…..CD
Such a beautiful morning here, sitting on the back patio enjoy a cool summer breeze before the sun comes up and turns up the heat. I’m thinking that it may be this cool because of the hurricane coming up other side of the state. For those who are living in her path, my prayers are with you please stay safe!
Last month, I decide that Aug. 2nd was the day, I get my bad word together. No more wallowing in the turns I made in the last year or so. The first stop is getting back on the wagon with you all and strapping my self on the damn wagon and I’m getting back down to my weight I was when I let everything go side was which is 127lbs. I’m starting at 144. 17 lbs, I can do it!
I also picked back up on the fly lady system…. which is part of the reason, I choose today to start….. renewing my spirit and all!
Well…….I’m off
Before I decide to be your ride or die chick……I got a few questions
Where are we riding to?
Do I have to die?
Can we stop for food along the way?
D2 The Lakes UK NFD
Happy Sunday everyone. Running late today as we have just finished our 40 minute open water swim in Lake Windermere so didn’t get breakfast until 11.30am this morning.
The swims are so invigorating and makes you feel really good when you have finished.
Still got to do my 10,000 steps today so that’s this afternoon sorted.
My first challenge day yesterday went well. It was a non NFD TRE 18 hours and 12 mins. Exercise a 7.23 km walk. Steps 13 916. One day down 30 more to go.
I noticed from the posts that I have some neighbours on this thread from the Lake District. I Hate Lettuce and AT. So hello to you both.
Day 2 Wales 🏴 NFD
Seems I’m not alone in having regained a few pounds, good that we are here to support each other. I think my plan of action for August needs to involve everyday calorie counting, tedious but necessary. I will charge up the neglected Fitbit so that I can use the food log and monitor activity more carefully.
@michelinme wishing you a good recovery, welcome back 🤗
Have a lovely Sunday everyone 😎
Day 2, Massachusetts, USA MFD
@michelinme welcome back, and I am so sorry to hear about the complications from C19. I hope things continue to improve for you. What a rough time.
I made a tracking spreadsheet for myself with budgets and BMRs and estimated TDEEs, accounting for projected weight loss progress. It includes a habit tracker for my process goals. Dorky, yet fun. If I follow my plan, then according to my projections I should get to my goal at or around 12/1. I hope it will help with my follow-through to enter these things daily and see them all in one place, along with a graph of projected vs. actual. If I have time later this week, I might add a tab with meal plan ideas for FDs and NFDs.
Someone mentioned snacking – definitely my downfall too! Grazing is the worst.

Day 2 – USA/GA – NFD
Last NFD until tomorrow’s first “full day in the office” FD. I did actually go in for one day during the lockdown for half a Monday in May, but this one will be a bit more trying. I suspect with everything prepared and packed up in my lunchbox, it could be easier than hanging out with my refrigerator at home. (It’s still not really safe to eat at a restaurant. And picking stuff up and going through all the health checks again isn’t appealing, either.) I’ll let you know this week!
Weigh in is steady at 252, which was also my weight last week going into the FDs. However, 252 is my “high range” now instead of my “mid-range,” so just need to keep it that way for another day. I was a little bad yesterday, too, but thankfully my snacking consisted of tons of grapes rather than potato chips. When grapes both look good and are on sale in the grocery stores, I go crazy. I’m afraid I have overbought and will have to calculate out the calories and make them part of my FD meals/snacks this week! For some reason, I had an uncontrollable urge to graze breakfast until after lunch on Friday and Saturday. That sort of thing can get me in trouble. Going to do better today!
Day 2 Canada NFD
It’s another hot day so I’m off for an early bike ride to beat the heat. I’m slowly getting better at riding my new bike and it’s a hell of a work out. I guess I need to work on being more efficient on the hills 🚴♀️
I was doing great last month until work stress dropped me to the ground so I need to work on strategies to deal with life’s curves. My NFDs can be a train wreck as well so I’m going back to MFP and counting calories. It’s something I hate doing but I know it makes a great difference. @flourbaby I’ll join the ZBC to help keep the calories low.
Glad you’re working on staying at your goal weight @at and @suki2.
@michelinme it’s so great to see you back. Sorry your symptoms are still with you, people who aren’t taking the virus seriously really need to give their head a shake. Gently indeed x

Sorry😔 I too went MIA for most of July. My birthday was on the 16th (52nd)🍾🥂🍰 and once that carb monster got it’s nasty little teeth in me, it just did not let go.
My blurb:
I am a physio and pilates instructor. I feel most of the time I really should (as a professional courtesey) demonstrate healthy living. I know the science, I have all the head knkwledge, but I seem to be struggling to make fasting stick.
I did 5:2 around 2 years ago, and looking back at the numbers, it was a slow but sure progress. I since got involved in keto and longer fasts (42 hours was my longest). They all work, but it’s the sticking to them I seem to have trouble with.
I am now just under the weight I was when I was 9 months pregnant🤰.
For August, I want to be consistent, Monday and Thursday fasts. I will set my expectation to 1lbs, and hope for 4. I will also start weighing myself daily, as I think I am not always honest with myself. I was skinny most of my life, so this feels like a ‘blip’, but this blip has been going on for well over 8 years now🤔🤦♀️.
I also am going to run x2 weekly 🏃♀️. I completed c25k in July, so I want to stick with the gains.
Here goes (again)…
Day 2, UK NFD
Yesterday the scales rewarded me with a 1lb loss for July. Under the circumstances I’ll take that as the last week of the month was a write off. I really do need to stop sabotaging my journey each month by taking it too easy for the last week or so.
Congratulations to everyone who saw a more pronounced downward trend on the scales in July.
Yesterday we went out with friends, I’d looked at the menu beforehand and decided on my meal – chicken tikka – it was about 1200 cals on the menu -eek. But I’ve had it before in the same place and I gave away the Poppadum, naan and only had a few mouthfuls of rice. As I was designated driver, no alcohol passed my lips. All in all it wasn’t too bad of a day .
@fasterjo, I think lockdown birthdays have the potential to throw us all off course. At least with this WOL, you know exactly what to do next, jump on the wagon and hold everyone’s hands.
Keep safe everyone.
Day 3, FD, Aus
I need this FD today; and I need a good kick up the rear to make this month truly auspicious.
Foggy and frosty morning here today but I did have a warm dog lying on my feet while catching up on the posts. That’s a nice feeling.
Good to see you back @michelinme and hope you are back to full health soon.
@murielpuce – I live about 30 minutes west of Rockford almost to Wisconsin in a very small village. I taught music in Freeport for about 30 years, retired in 2012. My DH and I met at U of I in Champaign/Urbana back in the late 60’s, and I had grown up in a northern suburb so don’t know Joliet very well. Nice to meet you! What brought you to London? I’ve visited there several times but not since 2010.
Day 2 – on vacation at 8500′ in Colorado
@michelinme, I’m so glad you’re back and on the mend; I hope you have no lasting effects.
@everyonelse: I have so many comments I want to make, but I can’t keep track of details when I only have my phone, so please know I’m full of condolences and sympathy, as is appropriate.
I’ve been sticking to the Fast5 timing every day and then DS and I have cooked special meals: pulled pork sandwiches, BBQ chicken and potato salad, homemade pasta with clam sauce…I sure hope this approach works, because I’m sure not eating as if I’m dieting, LOL! Tonight was Po’ Boys with sweet potato fries and tater tots. ‘Nuff said, eh?
I too am a member of the zero breakfast club–have been since 1975 or so. Welcome to everyone who is joining me! 🤪
Okay, time for board games…or maybe pinochle? 🤩
Day 3 – Japan – WFD #61
Japan does need to obliterate this pandemic. Thank you @flourbaby.
Day 2 NFD Minnesota, USA
Hello everyone!
Hello to “Old Friends”, and all of you people that are new to me; I wish you all of the best.
I can attest to the fact that this way of life, this way of eating, does work well to lose weight. You just have to do it. Many people do 5:2 without being on these forums. But, for me, I seem to always do better when I get back in touch with these wonderful and supportive people on this forum.
5:2 works so well, that it’s easy to get complacent after you have gotten to your goal weight, and then it’s easy to stop fasting, even the 1 time a week maintenance. That’s what happened to me. And if you don’t have anyone to be accountable to, like on this forum, then it’s so easy to let it go and gain weight back.
Thank you, FlourBaby, for hosting. It’s a big responsibility and a lovely thing that you will take this on.
So, I have gained back all of the 28 lbs that I lost 4 years ago, and have added 6lbs more to that. I can hardly believe it. A lot of it is around my waist now, which is very strange for me. I’ve always been a pear shape. I’m coming upon my 64th BD, so maybe that’s it. Just age. I have a friend in medicine that says it’s because of the stress that causes cortisol in the system. Everything going on these days is stressful, it seems. Whatever reason, I’ve got to do something about it. Its not healthy. The last thing I want to be, with Covid 19 as a possible illness, is obese.
So, please allow me to be part of the Auspicious August Challenge. I thank you all in advance, because I know you are all a lovely, welcoming group!
And now, I have a reason to get up early, with my coffee, and read the forum posts, like in the old days (2016). I’m so looking forward to it!
God Bless you all, and stay safe and healthy.

Day 3 – UK – FD
Good morning everyone
Todays the day, we’re off to the shops, throw away the bailer twine holding up the baggy trousers … time for some new clothes!
@missybear – Get the fitbit charged up, and get logging the calories, the only thing that really works for me. I’ve only been logging FD’s recently as been otherwise engaged, luckily didn’t put anything on, but if I want to lose ….
@hedwig6 – I mentioned snacking and the even worse grazing, I reckon they were probably a big part of my accumulated and unnecessary calories consumed pre 5:2
@northgeorgia – I’ve stopped buying anything that is a temptation for grazing, easier to know there’s nothing worth looking for!
Take care all

Happy to say I stayed on plan all weekend and the scales rewarded me with a small loss. I must admit last night was a struggle. I was so tempted to have something, anything but I didn’t want to spoil my IF window. It was a hunger feeling but I knew it would pass by this morning and it has. I’m sleep deprived and that plays havoc with the leptin that regulates hunger.
Im planning on having another on point week. Let’s see how it goes.
Take care and have a good week.

Hi everybody,
It’s very sad times for us here as my dad will not be leaving hospital as his illness and terminal diagnosis nearly a year ago has finally caught up with him…
He is a fine strong man 💕 even at his grand age…
I’ve spent the night with him here so that he is not alone. Only one of us is allowed to be here overnight because of the restrictions and I’m sure he knows that I’m here. The others are minding my mum.
Thanks @flourbaby – it means so much.💕
I have to say again how much respect I have for those In the caring profession and in particular in these extraordinarily challenging times…
I only have my phone with me so have been alternating reading my kindle book /and past posts here… you really are a great bunch of people 👍🤗 I haven’t yet told any of my “real life” friends. Time enough for that later…
The sun has come up here and it’s a beautiful day! I hope you all have a great one 👍

Day 1 – UK – 20:4
Good morning All!
Today is my first day as I have been away for the weekend and there was no point in even trying to do IF or anything. I walked a lot though, which is good.
I have been doing IF (mostly 18:6 and OMAD) for the last couple of years with amazing results. But during the lockdown, WFH, I put a lot of weight on 🙁 I was working in the kitchen because that was where the Wi-Fi connexion was the best, so I ate a lot, every single day.
Back to the office now, where I find it much much easier to fast or restrict calories as I am busy.
Today I weighed myself and I am at my heaviest ever: 85.3kg. I feel fat and bloated and I look ridiculous in all my cloths. I do not want to invest in a new wardrobe so I have to lose some weight.
I have had amazing results in the past with OMAD and I find it easier than any other form of IF.
So my plan is to do OMAD 7 days a week, having my meal in the evening between 6pm and 7pm. And 2 days a week I want to do OMAD800 which again, is not very difficult.
My problem is that if I have a bad day and I eat a bit more than I should than I get frustrated and I give up and I eat EVERYTHING! This is where I’ve noticed that you guys are amazing: you don’t beat yourself up and you start again the day after. This is why I think this forum and your support will help me get to my weight goal. I am just so grateful for finding this forum!!!
So I’ve started fasting last night at 8pm and I feel good, no hanger pains or anything yet. Will have plenty of water, sparkling water and 1 coffee. And in case I feel I simply can’t do 22-23 hours from the first day, I have a peach, an apple and a few pecans with me. But I really hope I can make it till dinner.
SW: 85.3kg
CW: 85.3kg
GW: 60kg (hoping to achieve it by the end of the year)
Goal for this week: 3 kg as I know it will be all water.
@jaifaim I’m so sorry to hear that, my thoughts are with you and your family. Hugs.

@jaifaim Thinking of you
Weekend went well and stayed on plan. Both eating and exercise.
Fast Day for me today so 800 calories. Meals planned not breakfast just lunch and dinner. So I suppose I could join the Zero Breakfast Club today.
Would like to stay at two meals a day so that is something to work towards
Going for a walk this afternoon.
Take care everyone.
Hi there, I’d love to join this thread for support in being consistent with this way of life – briefly joined a few years ago & now time to get started again as I’m feeling uncomfortable mentally/emotionally/physically.
I’m a Kiwi 44yr old female, 165cm, 69kg & would like to lose 6 – 8 kg (down to 62 or 63 kg). I feel like a different person confidence wise when I’m lighter & I’m fed up constantly thinking about my weight, food & dieting. This forum is so positive how everyone supports each others ups & downs.
Used to be so sporty & active but over the past few years I spend most my time driving my 3 girls to & from all their different sporting activities instead!
Sending thoughts & love to those going through challenging times, themselves or with family members, lockdown restrictions, work changes etc. xxx
(Hope no-one minds me jumping in – will weigh myself in the morning & it’s been a few weeks so fear I may be heavier than I think!!).
Day 3…… Florida…..FD
Pretty relaxed weekend…… back to the grid stone this morning. Food wise, I did not do good at all…… hoping to get it together starting today with a strong FD.
I am running a bit late this morning….. so I must run faster!
Before I decide to be your ride or die chick……I got a few questions
Where are we riding to?
Do I have to die?
Can we stop for food along the way?
Day 3 – USA/GA – FD
OK folks, wish me luck as I go out the door to the office in what was one of the most horrible nights in a while! Too much on my mind (sort of like back to school jitters) and so not a lot of sleep last night, though I tried my best. Lots of things that have to get done at work, and I found out this weekend that for about a year or so, my father has been dealing with afib with his heart. Then I get to wake up before the alarm clock with a major leg cramp. Yay!
Good news was that weight stayed nice and entering today with 252 lbs.
Good luck to everyone today!

Day 3, Massachusetts, USA, FD
@jaifaim, what a rough time for you and the family.
@northgeorgia, I hope your father has some decent treatment options available! A year!
@i-hate-lettuce, I started snacking when my second was born – I think it was because between the two kids, I had to snatch any possible chance I had to eat something. The situation has been different for many years now, but the “coping strategy” has not changed! Whoops. Still trying to convince my brain that I do NOT have to stuff random food into my mouth when I have a moment.
@funshipfreddie, nice catch! I think someone must have accidentally edited it – it should be good now. Thanks so much for keeping an eye on it.

People who newly added themselves to the spreadsheet, note that I re-alphabetized it, so look for yourself in alphabetical order, not at the bottom.
In particular, @murielpuce and @kazoo I remember seeing at the bottom.
