  • Welcome to the June Challenge – All welcome plus of course all from the Little Voices May Challenge!

The challenge is to set and declare individual goals for the month, chat on own/others progress and then declare results on 30 June.

Most who joined the May Challenge had great results with some even exceeding their monthly goal!

Some set high goals to motivate themselves to try harder, some just the average of 4 pounds and yet others go for even less or maintenance with no gain – everyone is different – depends on how much you have to lose and on your lifestyle. For example, last month I was going on holiday so set myself a modest goal of a 2 pound loss as I expected to gain weight on holiday. (As it turned out I lost weight on the holiday – it was a very active holiday! – so decided to adjust my goal upwards half way through the month!)

I have two clear goals for June. The first is to drop 4 pounds which will take me to my end goal of 9 stone (126 pounds) which I set when I started 5:2 on 12 January. The second is to get my Waist to Height Ratio to under 50% – it is 0.51 at present. The second goal should be realised if I realise my first goal but even if I don’t lose the full 4 pounds I might just be able to attain the WtH ratio goal as I am so close already!

Who’s up for the June Challenge? … Let’s hear your little voices !!

Hi, I’d like to join please! This is my 6th fasting week I’m starting to feel good. Family starting to notice a difference too. Id like to set a higher target and loose 6lbs which should see me down to 11st. I really need to up my activity so I’m hoping that will make a difference. Looking forward to taking part. Baboo

I’m ready! I will set my goal a bit more realistically this month. I am just a couple pounds away from my original goal (set years ago!), and now set that down another 10.

So I will say 6 lbs this month, and will revise as we go.

Thanks for being our coach, Up!

Hi, I’d like to join! I’m new and have been posting in the over-fifties thread. Getting my head around it all and have lost 9 lbs to date. I would like to set a goal for another 9lbs for June – may be ambitious but I have a LOT to lose. Just seen some photos of myself from the weekend which suggest that I’m not yet in the goddess category, even after losing my fabby 9 lbs so far. Feeling motivated to stick with it – the fd’s aren’t as bad as I thought at all! Thanks for having me x

    Please can I join?

I’m a returner, started again today (hooray!).

I’m not sure what goal to set really, I think I will go for 4lbs to be on the safe side πŸ™‚

    Happy fasting!

    Kits

I will join you. My starting weight today is 121.6lbs. I would love to lose 4lbs this month.

    Good luck everyone!

Hi Up thanks for starting the new thread ! so my goal for this month is 4 pounds or at least maintain what i currently am as i will be leaving in two weeks for my 3 week trip we are taking for our silver wedding anniversary. I am on my fast day today and i am going to try 3:4 for the next two weeks and hopefully drop 4 pounds before i leave.

I am hoping i will be like you UP and lose on my trip but mine won’t be as active as yours Paris will be and part of my England trip but Spain will be tanning and drinking. I am happy that i have lost 21 pounds so far so i will be keeping that thought at the back of my mind when the temptations strike. I know i will be faced with many as now living in Canada i miss lot’s of the English food and chocolate that i have not had for the past 8 years which was the last time i visited the UK. ( i promise i will try and be good )

So ladies lets get focused and fast on !

Hi everyone and thanks Upagumtree for this thread. I’d really love to join. I’ve set my goal quite high this month and am going for a 2lb loss each week until the end of June, and hopefully will carry that on into July. Its going to be hard, I could really use the support.

Good luck, I really need to do this … things are so out of control at the moment πŸ™

Wow!! So many little voices already!! Welcome all, old and new … Baboo, kitsix and KateEve – good luck with your June goals! One voice I would like to single out is Dragon Fly – our leader from Mad March!! … welcome back!! How are you doing?? Missed you through May! Hope all well with you!

Hi I’d love to join as finding this forum really helpful and inspiring in times of self doubt and wobbles.

I started last wk, had one good fast day on Tuesday but messed up fri. Managed to lose 2 lb though to my relief, i think due to extra running and being more thoughtful about food in general.

My goal for this month is 5lb. Thanks and god luck everyone.
Ps thanks fitnfast for your kind and encouraging words in your thread. You have helped me not give up!

Hi all, I would like to join too, I am also a returner starting again today. I am 5ft 3ins and 147ibs today. In total I would like to lose 28lbs….for June I am setting my target at 7ibs (first 1/2 stone). I have had doubts today when it got tough, around late afternoon and I had thoughts of slimming world, but with loads of willpower I fought through it. Good luck to all for June….1 month at a time!

Sorry, my adding up is awful tonight, maybe lack of food….I weigh 150lbs today!

Hi! I am new to posting on the forum, just been snooping so far. I have managed to lose 7 kg in 7 weeks so far even with some binging-bumps in the road along the way. Mainly been doing 4:3 so far. As I am quite happy with my weight loss and don’t need to loose that much moore, I am thinking of switching to 5:2 for June.

So my goal will be to lose another 2.1 kg to get me to an even 65 kg

I’ll join. I have just registered and will start tomorrow so will go for 4lb and see what happens. I’m a whopping 217lb at the moment and 5ft7 so a long long way to go!!! Wish me luck. And good luck to all of you!

Count me in too please!!! I am usually in the fifties group [hi there to some of you that are here as well πŸ™‚ ]. I am just finishing 4th week 5’6″ and 184 when I started, and anticipate overall 9 lb loss [weigh tomorrow], so my June goal is to have lost a whole stone 14 lb by the end of June – whether that is 5 more will see Tues morning… {I had quite a guilty pleasures weekend]. I head to Vancouver for a few days to see my surgeon team for consult in 3rd week, so hoping that doesn’t throw me off, but having this goal will help me stay strong! Cheers everyone.

I’d like to join! I’ve been fasting off and on since the fall. I’ve been able to keep off the 10 pounds I initially lost. I’m now going for a 5 lb. weight loss by my b-day (end of June). I’ll be very close to my goal weight if I accomplish that this month! Good luck to all!

Please count me in for the June Challenge. I’ve been on the fast diet since the beginning of March and I’ve lost eight pounds. I would like to lose three more for the month of June. I’ve been mostly doing 4:3 and actually like it better than 5:2 which I tried for the past two weeks. I’m going back to the 4:3 for June.

Thanks Up πŸ™‚ its nice to be back. I’m doing okay, quite a lot been going on at home and not been able to concentrate on myself much. Thats changing from now hopefully! I think i’m quite possibly at the heaviest I’ve ever been πŸ™ its all too depressing. Anyway, went for a long walk before work this morning and I’m going to make myself walk again at lunch. I’m working up to the fast days, just keeping it low each day for now. I’m of work for a few days next week, so might give fasting a go then.

Good luck everyone with your day, I’ve missed being here x

    Hi everyone!

I’m on other threads but please count me in! I’d like to lose 4 Ibs by the end of June, that will make a stone! so would be fabulously pleased. I’ve lost 8 Ibs since starting in April, have about another 1 1/2 stones to go, have fallen off the wagon last week, so the incentive and support would be great! Good luck to fellow FD’s

Wow, so many newbies, that’s wonderful. Little voices is certainly shouting loud. Great to see you back Dragon Fly, you gave me support at the start when I badly needed it. It’s great we have a good crowd to support each other.
I feel positively lazy when I read the targets some of you want to achieve , but if I can lose 4 lbs and get to 10 stone for June that will do nicely. Then I can get my head around the next half stone.
I am trying low carb/ high ( natural ) fat just now as I have health issues, so will work with that and get used to it rather than put pressure on myself.
Good luck to you all, and thanks again UP for taking the lead.

On Week 6 of 5:2 and near my goal weight of 125 lbs (currently 128.6 lbs) so I would like to join the June challenge. I have blood tests scheduled for the last week in June so would like to be able to work towards a healthy outcome. SW 139 CW 128.6 GW 125 lbs.
Really enjoying this method of losing weight – I feel I’m in control! No food restrictions, just the amount. Good Luck everyone!

Hi Third Time Lucky πŸ™‚ I’ve really missed the support this forum brings, you’re right, its good to get a good crowd together to cheer each other on. Hope you’re doing okay. I’m taking it easy so far with fasting, again for health issues, and coming off medication. I’m hoping to start introducing them next week when I have time off work. We can do this! I want to get to 10 stone by the end of June too, so I’m with you all the way.

Hope everyone is having good and positive days πŸ™‚ x

A little update. I weighed in this morning, down 1, not 2, this week…. for a total of 8 in the past 4 weeks, so my June goal will nudge up a tad to 6 pounds — in order to meet my big goal of a stone by month’s end. I think I will stick with 5-2 not 4-3 but try to be a bit cleaner in my eating with fewer carbs. Although overall pretty good, there is room for improvement, while still having special indulgences that make life worth living and this doable for the long term πŸ™‚
And I need to up the exercise level from leisurely dog strolls, gentle bike rides, and lazy paddles to actually break a sweat now and then!! So am also challenging myself to a morning home workout of 20 min. 5X weekly for June. Cheers all and best wishes with this week.

Hmmm maybe before I set my target I should have paid more attention to the fact it’s both my kids birthday this week, I’ve been baking cakes all day! Oh well….

Just don’t sample too much of the frosting. We celebrated our daughter’s birthday this past weekend. I definitely sampled too much frosting! Hum… it was quite tasty, though. Maybe it was worth it. πŸ˜‰ Thanks to 5:2 I could compensate.

Ahh dreaming of sugar, wish it didn’t feel so good!
Just about to try a kettlecise class, hopefully not too painful πŸ˜‰
Fast again on thurs I think….trying to eat clean in between but can be tricky.

Its funny how one or two comments can kick your butt into action isnt it. I was telling my bf last night that I was back on this, and was going to introduce fasting next week. He said “its only food, just dont think about it” then we started talking about will power, and he said “you have the worst will power of anyone I know”! Dont get me wrong, he is so supportive, and he knows I really want to do this, but arghhhh!

So, today is a fast day, and I’m doing it by the book. Why put it off until next week, I’m on it now. Water throughout the day, and then soup for dinner later. No alcohol or anything I shouldnt have.

Feeling so motivated for today, and I suppose in his unsubtle way he has helped me get back on the fasting road πŸ™‚

Good luck with the day everyone!

Second fast day for me today. I got a lecture from the receptionist at my gym yesterday whilst booking an appointment to update my workout after I stupidly mentioned that Mondays and Wednesdays would be out as they are fasting days and I’m not a fan of exercising on fast days (tried it last time). It really annoyed me, I don’t feel the need to lecture anyone else on what works for them… =/

Oh well, I know there are lots of people here who understand and know how well this works both for weight loss and your health in general.

Good luck with the June challenge πŸ™‚

Best of luck dragonfly and kitsix fasting today. I have completed 2 fasts so far and I am hoping it gets easier and just a way of life…? Fingers crossed that will happen.
I find I have no will power either dragonfly, where can I get some?! I am going to have to be v careful on non fast days as i find I am all about the cake and chocolate which will no doubt undo all good of fast days.
Brush off comments from gym lecture kitsix you know your body and I think fast days ought to be about being kind and gentle to ourselves not aggressively tasking. Surely?

Good luck thinking of you both. My next fast tomorrow, let me eat cake I mean lettuce, eek!

@bluezoo last fime I did this the fasting side definitely got much easier, I stopped getting hungry on fast days, and I found the desire to eat cake/sweets/my body weight in bread on non fast days died off really quickly too πŸ™‚

Thanks for the support, have a great day today and a good fasting day tomorrow πŸ™‚

Hi all! Hello to the newbies, good to see you!

I am BACK, having limped over the end of May with a measly 1lb loss in total (having dropped a couple, gained a couple then dropped a couple of pounds throughout the month). ThirdTimeLucky, good to see you back! I am aiming for a 4lb loss again this month, I don’t have a lot to lose so will feel happy with 1lb a week. I NEED to stop snacking so much on my normal days!!

Mid-day update, how’s everyone doing fasting or otherwise. I have to say that I can tell I’ve not fasted for a while, its rough, although I’m keeping on with it. I had a black coffee earlier which helped and will just have water this afternoon. My soup will taste soooo good later! Hopefully if I can get a few fast days done, it should start to get easier.

    WE CAN DO THIS!

I’d like to start into this challenge too. It’s June the third already, but I’ve been on the 5:2 religiously for the past 5 weeks or so. My goal for June is to lose 5 lbs, which will put me into a new “decade.”

    Thanks for starting this thread!

Thanks @kitsix that’s good to know and hold out for. Just eaten a packet of rolos, went to shops to buy lemons but got that 3pm urge πŸ™
I was explaining to my son about the rolo adverts ‘do you love anyone enough to give them your last rolo?’ Just shows the power of advertising 30years on! Then both children gave me their last rolo! I did give them first and last from my pack though πŸ˜‰
I hope you are embracing your willpower@dragonfly, you have so got this. Nearly soup and bedtime then enjoy that virtuous feeling in the morning.

Soooo glad to be back with you all again. Those blasted little voices were calling in my ear again today, and the guilt trip followed!
Met OH for lunch and had soup, it came with loads of croutons. Bang goes my gluten free trial! Oh well, might as well eat the delicious home made bread roll now. Decided to give a gluten free cake a whirl ( why do I think there are less calories in gluten free stuff). Get real lady,, they are still there…….didn’t bloat, but really didn’t need it, and with you lot sitting on my shoulders didn’t even enjoy it!!!
Dinner was poached salmon, poached asparagus and salad. Cooked sautΓ©ed potatoes for OH, and I didn’t have one! Fresh local strawbs and natural yogurt to follow, and believe it or not, I am just in my calorie allowance.
I use myfitnesspal to track my calories. Their allowance for me is 1200 cals per day. FD is 1550 per day. I try and stick to 1200 cals then if I go over I’m still within my FD allowance. (Sneaky huh!)
Went to Aquafit today first time for 4 weeks so have a feeling everything will ache tonight. FD tomorrow with Pilates mid day. It’s good to get back into a routine again.
Good to hear from you Up, Applepie, Babs, Dragon Fly, Socrv, and all you new folks. Happy and successful fasting to you all.

2nd fast day done after daughters birthday yesterday. Out for a curry tomorrow night so may do another (my first 4:3) on Friday as it’s my sons birthday on Saturday (more cake). A nice easy fast day today, have rediscovered pickled beetroot!!

Well my week so far is going well had a good fast on Monday stayed within my cals for Tues and today. Fasting tomorrow… Kept up my walking 8km each day and i golfed on Tuesday afternoon so doubled my steps for the day.

Really fancied a Macdonalds mcflurrie but thought about you girls and how hard we have all been trying so passed on it felt so proud of myself. Had half a grapefruit instead .

Thirdtime i also use myfitnesspal and am at similar weight to you with same goals made me laugh with the 1200 cals and the FD allowance i use the same tactics hee hee.

These little voices really are keeping me focused hope you are all having a great week fingers crossed for my weigh in on Friday. Nice to see so many new fasters join the June challenge stay focused and

    happy fasting !

    Hi everyone

One FD completed, another one today. Have found that leaving a longer fasting window seems to work, used to be “got to have breakfast or I’ll die” but now don’t have anything til about 7pm, it’s quite tough, as have to ignore the hunger pangs, and just BELIEVE, it’s got to work. Going to a wedding on Saturday, so if I’m on a roll today may sneak in a gentler FD tomorrow, let’s see how my willpower fairs πŸ˜‰
Good luck to all you Fasters, and NF’s today.
    bb

Just had a morning weigh in after 2 fast days this week. The scales are moving in the right direction, now only about 4lbs off 11stone. Hoping I’ll achieve more than my 6lb target this month so I’ll be firmly under the 11st mark on the scales. Love this WOL, proving you can have your (birthday) cake and eat it!! Good luck with the rest of the week everyone!

Completed my fast day slightly under 500! It was hard going, especially when I got home and my bf was having wine, but … I said no thanks! Had my soup, and then numerous cups of green tea then went to bed early. I’ve had some toast this morning, with weightwatchers bread, and feel good so far.

Happy Thursday to all my friends, we’ve got this!!!!!

Well done resisting the wine dragonfly! I snuck one chip from my hubby’s fish n chips last night but managed to resist any more πŸ™‚

So that’s the first two fast days done, I was tempted to weigh myself this morning but I’m going to leave it until Monday.

have a great Thursday all x

Morning everyone – this thread is moving fast!!! I can’t keep up! πŸ™‚ Brilliant to see everyone doing so well, I am DETERMINED I will shift 4lb this month. Determined I tell you!!!!!

Monday was FD – I went over slightly….. monthly hormones kicked in, by 7pm I was feeling very dizzy & faint and just did not have the willpower to resist eating. Ho hum. It’s only the first week. Today is FD number 2 and I am feeling a lot more positive that it will all be good. I only had one week off 5:2, which was last week (all but one semi fast day, which I am not counting), and already found I am feeling so much worse for it. Much more groggy, not quite as alive as I have done. So I am happy to be back on it this week. Just a shame ‘aunt flo’ ruined it for Monday.

Dragon Fly & Kitsix, well done for your self control! Two weeks ago the OH (who I work with) and the guy in the office next to ours had a McDonalds on their lunch break. I was fasting and had a mug of Miso soup. For about 1 minute I was considering ditching the FD and doing it again the followig day but I stood fast and stuck to it – and felt SO pleased that I did. Hope you’re feeling good today.

So, whilst I’m talking willpower – had anyone got any tips they can share for getting through the little spells of hunger during the day, or even recipes you’ve found keep you full for longer? I have been drinking bottles and bottles of water, had Miso soups, the odd black coffee (before I started getting terrible headaches) and trying to keep my protein high on my evening meal. I could do with some different recipe ideas and little tips though, feel like I need to shake things up a bit!

@babs_b my tips would be fizzy water (helps you feel full!), vegetable oxo (around 8kcal and I find them tastier than miso), and fruit and herbal teas. I love coffee but too much gives me headaches too. Also I e got a horrible picture of me stuck next to my desk at work, that helps haha!

Hi Babs – read your post and got Mimis cookbook out. This is what she suggests:
There’s little point grazing on a fast day – it would soon eliminate the point of the exercise. But some people need a little lift……….avoid carbs and go for fresh raw ingredients.

    Almonds
    CruditΓ©s ( carrot sticks,celery,cucumber,peppers,radish,tomatoes etc)
    Tablespoon hummus
    Fresh strawberries. 10
    Blueberries 100 grm
    Cherries 60 grm
    Table spoon cottage cheese
    25 grm Edam
    10 grm air popped corn
    10 pistachios
    Hard boiled egg
    1 tablespoons seeds
    Sugar free jelly pot
    Frozen grapes

I have the fast diet books and often refer back to them. If I have any doubts they have the answer. I tend to stick to Dr Ms guidelines. It is slower than some people like, but nowadays I’m slow and steady rather than racing to the finish and getting exhausted.

I’m on my second fast day for the week. Had a big portobello mushroom, tomato grilled with a poached egg ( from Mimis book) for breakfast. 124 cals ( I don’t do well skipping breakfast) We will have vege chilli for dinner. OH will have rice, I won’t . 149 cals. That will leave me extra for strawberries and yogurt, plus milk in tea through the day. Though I tend to drink a lot of herbal tea and water.

I can recommend Mimis book for anyone who is at a loss what to eat. The recipes are easy and filling.
Sometimes I need all the help I can get, this way Mimis done all the hard work. I just have to put it together and enjoy!

Do hope this helps Babs, and any newbies.

Hello all. Mentioned in May little voices I was joining the June challenge, but have had no time to actually post. My goal is to loose 4 lbs this month to bring me to my original goal of 128 lbs. (may go for a few more lbs after).

I have been off to a bit of a rocky start though, I flubbed my Tuesday fast day and already broke my no alcohol pledge. I am doing very well on my increased excercise pledge though, so far doing a minimum 12,000 steps a day and toning every day – upper body one day, lower body the next.

Today is a new day! – FD, so far so good – just black coffee and water but the day is very young here in Montreal! I am going to back down a bit from the no alcohol pledge – just too much socializing now that Summer is here, but I will definitely scale back. Hope all those doing FD are strong and can stick to it today.

Second FD scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) as I was treated to a ‘Healthy Breakfast’ today – my meal was lountza (lean bacon), mushrooms and fresh tomato (cooked using 1 Cal spray), baked beans and scrambled egg with two rounds of toast and butter. MOH had the English Breakfast – 2 fried eggs, sausage, streaky bacon (which he did not eat) mushrooms (cooked in oil) and baked beans with toast, butter and jam. I have just added up the calories and the total comes to just under 850, so pretending it is 1000! If I do feel hungry later on then a salad will be fine. Just been for a long walk – a bit faster than strolling, but not enough to get out of breath.

Planned to fast today but messed up too early so now tomorrow.

Realise the importance of focus and determination and this fasting isn’t an easy option it still requires the staying power that any diet requires.

It’s remembering the health benefits as well as (fingers crossed) weightloss. Changing mindless eating, reaching for food when the mild nag of hunger pains begin, I so need to address. Habits of a lifetime take time I suppose. This forum is fab. Knowing others experiencing same.

Love the suggestion of portobello mushroom, tom and egg breakfast. Mmmm

I’ve been following the fast diet since March and I am still struggling with the non-fast days. I tend to nibble more because I know “I can,” even though I really can’t.

    Strength to all!

Hello all you Little Voices – Great to have so many voices – both the familiar voices from previous monthly challenges and newbies. To date we are TWENTY-ONE. Babs, I agree with you, the thread is moving so fast I can’t keep up! You all are so enthusiastic, determined and helpful to others – a grand team! Sooo, I have decided to take a bit of a back seat here, take on the role of Project Manager and monitor everyone’s progress. I will post less often than I did in the previous monthly challenges – perhaps just once a week on my weigh-in day Monday.

So far in my ‘role’ I have compiled all your individual goals and summed them up – a whopping 104.5 pounds – That’s equivalent to a petite person! So will that petite person have completely disappeared into the ether come end of June? Let’s hope so!!

As this is an international forum I have, where possible, also taken note of the countries you all live in as it helps when chatting. I got this info from past threads I have been involved in or from your profiles – but not all of you have entered a profile yet – perhaps some of you would like to add one now? Wow, Marywwriter, interesting profile – you talk a lot of sense!

Thanks for putting all that information together. It is fun to think that if we all succeed, a small person of blubber will have melted away.

    Cheers.
