  • Hi all,

So I am new to 5:2…heard mixed reviews about it really. I’ve heard success stories but also heard that it can mess with your hormones and cause infertility and problems with your periods?! I’m 28 so obviously I want to be careful about this as i do want a family in the next couple of years…

I’m also keen to know what works for everyone else – do you save your 500 calories for 1 main meal in the evening? Or do you have lunch and dinner? Slightly worried about how i will deal with the hunger as i work very long hours (sat at a computer though!) but I’m guessing I will get used to it once I have fasted a few times?!

    Thanks in advance xxx

hi Littlemissmay and welcome to the forums!

re the fertility issue I would discuss these with your doctor? I don’t know if 5.2 interferes with is so sorry cant advise you there..
everyone does their own thing and its what works for you re the 500 cals, a lot of fasters save them all for their evening meal, I like to have something around midday to keep me going, its up to you, so you’ll have to experiment a little!
as for the hunger pangs, do not worry too much, they come in waves and you’ll soon get used to them 🙂
good luck and let us know how its going!

    Hi Littlemissmay

As Angie says, if you have concerns then best discuss these with your doctor before you begin.

Have you been told that ‘starving’ yourself interferes with fertility? Many people with eating disorders, who are literally starving themselves, certainly do have problems in this area but this is NOT a starvation diet. On 2 days per week you restrict your calorie intake to 500 calories or less (and you may be surprised to find just how much you can have) and the other 5 days you can eat ‘normally’. That is you can eat WHATEVER you like but in moderation.

There are some notes here which may help explain things http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/some-notes-on-the-fast-diet-for-newbies/

and go to the ‘faq’ at the top there are answers to many questions that people have. http://thefastdiet.co.uk/michael-answers-frequently-asked-questions/

Also click in the ‘how’ link you will find further explanations and a calculator to work out just how much you can eat on your non fast days. http://thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-calories-on-a-non-fast-day/

I’m sure if you read through these it will help set your mind at rest but do have a word with your doctor too.

    xx
