  • Hi! I’m totally new to this, doing my first fast day tomorrow! I know I always lose weight better when i’ve got a buddy to help – anyone want to join me?

I’m new too! I’m up for it!

Thanks kmcall19! Looks from your thread like you’ve got a lot less to lose than me but I really hope we can both do it! First fast day today and I must admit I feel nervous that I’ll feel rough during the day, but hopefully not. When’s your first fast day going to be? Hope it goes well!

My first fast day was yesterday and it went well! I’m gonna do it again tomorrow, how’s it going for you so far?

Good so far today, have used around 150 of my 500 on raspberries cherries and yoghurt for breakfast then some chicory leaves and extra light cheese as a snack. Planning to have a big shredded salad and marinated griddled tofu for tea! ☺️

I’ve decided to have my fast days on a Tuesday and Friday. I’m really struggling to eat on my non fast days it’s strange I feel like I’ve eaten less today than what I did on my fast day

I’m fasting tomorrow, but I’m hoping to do Tuesday’s and Thursday’s as my regular days starting from next week. I wouldn’t normally want to fast on a Friday because it’s nice to have a few drinks or a meal out with my other half. I know what you mean about eating on feed days- all day today I’ve had to keep reminding myself that I’m not limited to having or not having certain things – weird! Hopefully we’ll both get used to it with practice. Have you planned what you’re eating on your fast day tomorrow?

I mean I physically am struggling to eat on my non fast days lol. Every time I eat I feel full really quickly and feel nauseous, all I ate today was breakfast and a sandwich around 4pm I just don’t feel that hungry at all, strange haha. I’m planning on having a chicken salad but I’m not sure yet what about you?

Well I guess the best thing is just to try and eat something when you think you’re hungry, and if you’re not don’t worry. I’m having stir fried veg with salmon tonight. Quite looking forward to seeing how I get on today, I guess it’s motivating knowing you’re doing something good for your body!

Yeah I know this is the first diet that I’ve tried that actually seems possible to do

It’s nice that the principle is so simple. I have been pretty hungry today, but battling on by keeping busy and looking forward to my dinner! I really hope this works, have resisted getting on the scales so far – I weighed myself to get my starting weight on Monday evening so will make that my weekly weigh day.

I was like that on tuesday but today has been good, I’m only just eating my first meal now as I haven’t felt too hungry today.

I guess every day will be different. Am learning a lot about calories on fast days which is interesting- knowing which veg you can get lots of for few calories is good, at least that way when I have dinner it looks like there’s plenty on my plate!

Me too I didn’t realise how many calories were in the foods that I was eating all the time.

Yep! I just looked up dark chocolate and 10g is around 50 calories! That’s not even one square!

    That’s crazy lol

    Hello LondonGirl!

It’s my first day today and doing a fast day! To say i am looking forward to my lunch (home made soup for 108 calories) is an understatement!

I have atleast 42 pounds to go so we have a similar amount! Would you like to buddy up? I could really do with someone who is on the same path as me!

    Im 25 btw x

Hi Nell! How was your first fast day? Hope your soup was as good as you hoped! I’d love to buddy up with you ☺️ After my first week I lost 4.25 lbs which I was so impressed with! I’ve decided to weigh once a week on Mondays but I’m away at the moment so couldn’t weigh yesterday- will have to wait until next Monday so fingers crossed for a bumper loss! I’ve done 5 fast days now and they are gradually getting easier. The best trick I’ve found so far is just to drink plenty – I seem to feel less hungry that way!

Haven’t decided on when my other fast day will be this week, have you? Got any meal ideas?

    Kelly

Hi kmcall19, how have you been getting on?

Hello! I done well in my first and second week but haven’t done too good this week, today was supposed to be a fast day but I’ve had a bit more than 500 calories. I’ll just make tomorrow a fast day and then again on Friday. How’s it going for you?

Going ok, lost 4 and a quarter lbs in my first week, but am on holiday at the moment- still fasting but can’t weigh myself until Monday- fingers crossed for a bumper 2 week loss!

I weigh on Mondays too! My first fast went okay – i was hungry by lunch time and again by tea time – but i stuck to.. I may have gone slightly over 500 but im not going to worry too much as it was my first time! I do feel like I need 3 small meals a day i dont think I could go all day without eating!!

Had a normal day yday, think I went a little OTT by sharinf a garlic bread with my other half but all in all it was okay! My tdee is 2250 and I think I was well within that 🙂

I dont really know what meals to make for under 250 as thats what i usually have left for my tea! So i had 100g sweet potato, 100gchicken breast and 100g brocoli! It filled a small hole! Ive just realised how few calories there are in lettuce/cherry tomatoes! So i think tea tomorrow with be a salad of sorts!

I have to have breakfast, im going to try Ryvita as they are only 37 calories – any idea for low cal spread/topping?

4 and a quarter is a brill first week loss – i had such a binge last weej I put on 6lb (wasnt on the diet) im hoping that some of that was water from such salty foods, so i would like to lose that 6 this week! But as we having a bbq on Friday for my friends birthday (with alcohol) and then an indian saturday night Im not holding out much hope!! Xx

    Hi all,
I’m also just starting the fast, and would love to buddy up with someone. I did this about 2 years ago and it worked, but somehow I stopped and gained what I’d lost and some more, thus made a decision over the weekend to start again to get down on a level where I feel comfortable! I have about 2 stone to lose (might be a little less that I have to lose, but decided to set the goal high as I always tends to become more relaxed in my attitude once I getting close to the goal). The worst part is that I have some travels planned in the upcoming month, thus lets see how that goes… hopefully I’ll be able to stick to the fast at least the majority of the weeks, I decided that it’s better to start now, than push it for another month, even if I won’t loose to much in the beginning, it’s better than nothing or gaining!

Hi Nell. Im also struggling to find meals that I can make for dinner that are low in calories. I’m a very picky eater so on my fast days I usually have a tuna salad and soup but want to find more things that I can make so if you find anything else that is low in calories and filling please let me know. X

I am going to go to iceland/tesco in my dinner break to have a look at what readymeals they have – if theres something there for 250 then great – i can ‘beef’ it out with lettuce/cherry tomatoes!

My home made soup came in at 108 for a big bowl so i just need an idea for breakfast thats going to keep me full!

When are your fast days? X

My fast days are usually Tuesday and Friday but yesterday I went a bit off track and went over 500 calories so I’m fasting today. So far I’ve had 2 eggs and I’m feeling a bit hungry, I have no idea what to make for dinner tonight. When are your fast days?x

Hi Frida! We have about the same to lose, I’m trying to lose a stone and a half. Good luck! X

Hi Frida, welcome to our little group! If you’ve done it once I’m sure you can do it again- good luck!

Nell and kmcall- I’ve bought the fast diet cook book so if you’re stuck for recipes that are low enough in calories then give me a shout – there’s a recipe index by number of calories in the back so I could always take photos of some recipes and email you the pictures of the pages!

I read about the recipe book on here, where did you buy it if you don’t mind me asking?

I got my copy at a branch of foyles bookshop in London but probably a good waterstones would do it or even a larger branch of whsmith might. You’re bound to be able to get it on the internet somewhere, maybe Amazon?

Found it on amazon thank you!

Thanks! It does not fell like it will work at the moment, did a water fast yesterday and woke up this morning and had gained weight.. Think I’ll do another fast tomorrow again… I will spend 4 days hiking Friday to Monday thus hopefully that will show on the scale next week! Good luck to all of you that are fasting today!

Your hiking sounds fun, Frida! I know sometimes it takes a few days for weight loss to show on the scales, so I try to be strict and only weigh myself once a week on the same day. That way hopefully I stress about the whole thing less and avoid disappointment if my weight fluctuates from day to day

I’m trying not to weigh myself too often, but I’m too weak and can’t stop myself when I see the scale! Good thing now is that I won’t have access to it until next Tuesday! Lets hope for a better number then!

Hi everyone, how’s it going for you? I had a great surprise stepping up on the scale today, -6lb (think spending last night in a hot spring might have something to do with it) But I’ll take it as a win anyway and for next week I’m happy with a small number! I’ll try to keep myself away from the scale at least until the weekend! x

Well done Frida! That’s an amazing loss! I’ve been on holiday this last week – I managed one fast day whilst away but I’ve eaten so badly on the other days that I’ve gained 😕 Never mind, I know this is a long term thing and I’m back to it today! Really looking forward to my tea!

That’s great though that you just leave it behind and look forward! We all fall down once in a while, it’s as you say the bigger picture that we need to look at! Good luck with your FD!

Just broke my water fast and caved in for some food. But I’m not beating myself up too much as I’ve done 2 water fasts this week and will try to stay within 500 calories anyway with maybe a small meal again tonight if I’m hungry. Tomorrow I’m leaving for the US for 3 weeks, thus will be interesting to see how I can keep up the fasting and not over eat on the other days.. I’ve made a plan of fast days and how to save calories on days when I know there’s not as much social interactions as some others. I’ll see how it goes! Don’t know if I’ll be able to weigh myself during these weeks, thus it might be a big weigh-in once I’m back!

    Hello KellyGreen and everyone,
Could I please also join/buddy up with you all? I have ~2 1/2st to lose to get to my goal weight – just gone below the 11st mark (10.9) when I checked this morning 🙂
I’ve been fasting for about 3 months. It’s been a slow (but sure) process. I fast on Mon/Tue and Thur usually – generally flexible if the social calendar requires it. I tend to bunch my 500cal into dinner – I find it easier to skip breakfast and lunch than splitting the calories.

I also work out 4-5 times per week – hot yoga, TRX, cycling and running in varying combinations throughout the week.

    I live in London.

    Thanks 🙂

Hey Frida, this is probably a really dumb question but what’s a water fast? Well done for having a plan whilst you’re away, that should help you feel more in control. Have a lovely time in the USA!

Hi pissupoosa, welcome to our little group! So how has your first 3 months been? Do you find there’s an average amount you lose each week? Wow, so much exercise! I have a job where I’m on my feet all day but I’m sure if I did that I’d be flat on my back lol – go you! I find it easier to keep most of my calories for dinner, but seem to need to eat about 60 cals mid morning and mid afternoon to stop myself feeling overly hungry. Let us all know how you get on ☺️

Hi Kelly, I only drink water (and often some green tea) for the 36 hours and don’t eat anything. I find it almost as easy as the 500 calories (which I think in reality only should be 400 for me as I have a low TDEE).

Welcome to our group pissupoosa, do you find that this has become part of your lifestyle by now?

Hope everyone is doing well. I’ve decided to take a couple of weeks off of the fast diet as my mum passed away on Wednesday and I’m finding it too stressful trying to count calories at the same time as planning my mum’s funeral. Good luck to everyone I’ll get back to it as soon as I feel up to it! Xxx

So sorry to hear that kmcall19, take as much time as you need and we’ll be here when you’re ready. Thinking of you at this difficult time xxx

I’m sorry for your loss kmcall! Come back when you feel ready and as Kelly said we’ll be here! xx

Kmcall, I’m so sorry for your loss 🙁 I was there 2 1/2 years ago with my mother, so I can relate to your pain. Thinking of you at this difficult time. Take care of your self xxx

Hello again everyone, I wrote a long reply yesterday but somehow the site managed to log me out and I lost the whole thing before I could submit! So here it goes again…

Thank you everyone for welcoming me.
KellyGreene – to answer your questions, in the last 3 months there was a lot of experimenting and adjusting to the changes, the progress has been slow. I’d say <0.5 Kg/week. But I’m ok with slow and steady. I’d also like to think that my slow progress with weight loss is a trade off between fat loss (fasting) and muscle gain (working out) :-p . The reason for thinking this is, I SEE a much bigger difference in my body shape than I can account for with just weight on the scales – I’ve gone down a whole dress and jeans size AND a bra size!

Also, I’ve found the fast days get easier the more I do it. My appetite has generally gone down as well, even on a non-FD.

Exercise is my anti-depressant. With losing my mom 2 1/2 years ago and my husband being made redundant at end of last year, made me look for something else to focus my energy on – and that was exercise.
I started 5:2 after establishing my exercise routine. This has enabled me to exercise even on a fast day without feeling any lack of energy.

Frida, I’m intrigued by your fasting method. How long after starting 5:2 were you about to do a 36hr water fast? I do find now that I can almost go without eating on an FD… so my plan is to try decreasing the FD calories gradually.

I’m planning to fast on Tue and Thu this week. I’ll write an update later in the week.
All the best everyone with your FDs and NFDs

Thanks everyone I appreciate it. Xxx

Hi everyone! So now I’m back after spending 3 weeks in the US and my plan of fasting while there did not really work out… I’m planing on kick start with a water fast day tomorrow and then get 1 or 2 more of those in this week and weigh myself first next week to not get too bummed…

Pissapoosa; I’ve started doing the water fasts the first week, it was not really planned, but as I was not hungry I decided just to skip any food. On some days I’ve had something small in the evening in case I feel a bit hungry (think that might be the case tomorrow as I’ve been eating more than usual these past weeks).

How’s it going for all the rest of you? xx
