  • Hi everyone, I’m new on here, and on my third week of 5:2. It had been going really well so far, and I have lost 3kg.
Yesterday was my fast day, and I made the Coq au Vin from the 5:2 recipe book for dinner (it was very tasty and filling!)
However, I have had the most horrendous indigestion since last night – has anyone else had this? I was awake until 3am with it, and am still not right. I have an under active thyroid, but this has been stable with thyroxine for a few years now, so don’t think it can be relevant.
Any advice etc would be great, thanks

    1. Don’t eat that recipe again.
    2. Try Papaya enzyme tablets if you have them or access to them, they help me with the worst of indigestion.

I don’t know the recipe but is there something new to your system in it? A spice or combination of ingredients you haven’t encountered together before?

I think that when fasting my digestive system is more sensitive to everything. I try not to eat anything on fast days. A couple days I’ve had to have a few crackers 4 crackers and I was good to go.

Sunday night I started on a 3 day fast. Today 42 hours into fast I had a cup of bullion with 3 tblspns of brown rice and 2 tblspns mixed vegetables as I had horrific cramping going on. That seems to have settled it.

LOTS of water on any fast day.

    Thank you for your reply.
I think you’re right, it must have been something in the recipe. The irony is the last 2wks I’ve bought ready meals and been fine!
I shall have a look for the papaya enzyme too

Pleased to read about the indigestion, as i too have been experiencing this since starting fast diet 3 weeks ago…i too have an underactive thyroid…please note i have not eaten anything i don’t usually eat (unlike your post) ; i am not sure if this way of eating or rather not eating is beneficial to folk with this condition
