  • I’m quite new here and have only been fasting for a week, so far so good! Next week though it is that time of the month and I get quite head achy and crave food most of the time whilst it’s happening. I was just wondering if any one has any techniques or what you do when it’s that time. I don’t want to have a week off but I’m concerned!

    Hi Bunnyx95
I started fasting last month on the first day of my period and it was horrendous as I was in so much pain and I couldn’t take any tablets on an empty stomach. I should have just started on the 2nd day -which would have been the Tuesday as 2nd day pain is much more manageable without pain relief – and I too suffer awful headaches. Then this month first day of period started on a Monday again (typical!)- but – I had started Starflower oil 2 weeks ago and I had practially zero pain, so I done my fast on Monday no problem whatsoever, despite it being heavy. So really – I would say – mix up the days to suit your cycle. I crave food too but I never felt more hungry than usual with a fast and for the first time in my adult life I did not put on a single pound over my period – in fact I lost 3lbs! It is trial and error and you have to listen to your body. Good luck! x

    Thank you Bevers.
I feel the same too, but my pain lasts all week and it doesn’t go until it stops, the doctor prescribed my strong pain killers but I’m concerned about taking it on an empty stomach as I’m pretty sure it says to take when eating!

I shall have a look into Starflower Oil, where did you purchase it from? Does it stop the pain completely even on day 1?
Thank you so much for your comment and I shall get some this weekend before I’m due on Monday. x

    Hi Bunny
I ordered these from Amazon ‘Starflower Oil / Borage Oil 1000mg 180 Softgels High Strength Capsules High GLA Supplement’ – and I took 2 a day for 2 weeks now I have dropped down to 1 a day. I used to take them about 10 years ago and got them from Holland & Barret but these are a lot cheaper and work just as well. I don’t know why I ever stopped taking them! It did not stop the pain completely on day 1 but it was 90% better compared to not taking them. I usually can’t sleep on day 1 as I have to walk around the house as no amount of pills or water bottle stop the pain – I would say it is worse than child birth – I have 2 children! But I was so happy that I went to bed with a hotwater bottle on the first day and did not wake up at all in pain. The next day driving around it was uncomfortable but nothing like usual. If you read the reviews here it shows a lot of woman are helped: http://www.naturesbest.co.uk/starflower-oil-1000mg-p582/?SRC=GOHERB&url_id=25655251&gclid=CPjhsZuUpcQCFe6WtAodmiUAZg#tabreviews
I would give the tablets a go but remember sometimes herbal rememdies take a few months to kick in so don’t give up! If I were you I would have a small breakfast on a fast day so you can take your painkillers if you need them, and if you need more then use up some of your calories as needed. I have brought some of those low calories noodles – 7.7 cals for a serving and I had those last night – I lightly fried in a teaspoon of coconut oil a slice of ham, garlic,3 mushrooms, added half a tin chopped tomatoe, chilli flakes, paprika, half a veg oxo, put in a whole pack of noodles (15.4 cals) and a huge bowl of food for 135 cals – so you can eat and take your pills without going over your calorie allowance – and if you have to spread them out on your period days you know it is still going to work. It is hard being a woman sometimes! x

    Hi Bevers,

Thank you so much for that, so useful, it really helps to have another female be able to help, I live with 2 kids! One being a big kid, aka, my partner, lol!

I’ve decided to get myself some so shall see how this works and hopefully will be able to fast properly and let my period not disturb me!! I was thinking about just going up to 600 and having a small lunch so your recipe would be fantastic and it sounds amazing! Can’t wait to try it!

    Thank you so much! x

    Hi Bunny
Lol to your big kid!! I don’t live with my partner yet and both my girls have moved out – I think it is easier to do the fast day when I am on my own as people are such feeders! I have managed to persuade my partner to do the diet – he started on Wednesday and he was down 1.5lb the next day.

Good luck with the tablets – keep me posted on how they work and your success in general! I am personally loving this diet! x

The worst thing I found was them eating in front of you when you are trying not to eat during the day, it’s like torture! and getting the “Mummy, why aren’t you eating!?”

Mine would but he plays football all the time and says he needs his calories! lol!
But that’s brilliant news about your partner!

Started period yesterday and am just having to eat today but lightly as I am starving and the tablets haven’t arrived yet, so if I go over a little bit today it won’t be too bad as I’m going to the gym tomorrow so hopefully I can make up for it!

Total loss so far 4lbs down from only doing it a week! x

    Hey!
Congratulations on the weight loss!! 4lbs is great! Especially around period time. I hope you managed to get through yesterday ok 🙂
Aw you little one wants you to eat! It is hard to cook for others isn’t it – especially if you are used to having a taste here and a nibble there!
I have had 4 days of eating so much – cake mainly and beers! I am doing fast day tomorrow and Friday and I am not stepping on the scales till Saturday! If I have lost any weight I will be so shocked and amazed! x

    Hi Bevers,

How did you get on?! There is nothing wrong with a few treats!!

I weighed myself again this morning and I’ve lost another 6lb I cannot believe it I am on top of the world. Only got 1 more stone to shift and I’ll be in the healthy range and ready for the beach. So so happy! Explained to my little boy what I am doing and he turned around and said “well done mummy”!

Have you got a total lost? x
