  • Day 12 – USA (UT visiting) – NFD

Making today a good CD. I’m off to Silver Sneakers this morning then the rest of the day ought to be pretty relaxed. Maintaining pretty well despite eating and cooking with daughter and grands.

@bert1802 – I bet you will have stories to tell! Glad you’re getting to eat up food that has defrosted at least. I always feel sorry for people losing so much from their freezer in power outages. In winter in northern Illinois, we sometimes lose power to ice on lines. At least then, we put frozen food outside to keep it!

    Onward and downward.

    Day 10/11/12/13/NFD/Melbourne Australia

    Day 12 – USA – NFD

My BFF Chitowngal asked me to say hello to all…she is very busy at work and has not posted in a little over a week. She switched up her FDs last week to Tues/Thurs, and asked me to add it to the spreadsheet, which I did. Her last weight was 138, 1 lb. below the week before! I’m sure she will be posting again daily when work lets up.

Day 12 – SW WA USA – FD

Checking in on day 2 of 4 B2B FDs. I did liquid yesterday. @ HappyMargo you are inspiring me.

Day 12 McMinnville Oregon USA – FD
    Had a fairly CD yesterday.
So many people without power in Florida. Hope to hear from @penz before too long. @bert1802 – hope the clean up is going well. I lost everything in a house fire years ago and I know how difficult cleanup can be. It also teaches you that things are just things and best to not get too attached.

Love to hear about the locations people visit for both work and pleasure.
It all sounds so exotic to me. I probably need to plan a getaway soon. ✈️

    Stay strong!! 💪

Day 12, Rocky Mountains, US, CD

Yesterday’s FD morphed into a NFD but within my TDEE. Today aiming for a CD.
    Maintaining at goal weight!
    More hiking today!

Have a good Tuesday everyone! 🌺🌻🌼

    Day 12, London, UK, NFD

Late check-in today, I had a really easy day yesterday which turned into a FD, just as well, because my boss treated me to lunch today which would have been a FD, so just a B2B this week Wed & Thurs. Today will be controlled as I have a cold and a small bowl of soup this evening will be all I need since lunch was quite filling.

Hhmm…… Having just read the posts from my fellow Dry-wino’s, I get the impression we all may have a teeny-tiny problem with alcohol (No, not that we can’t have any for another 18 days!! we really are looking forward to October aren’t we?) – the desperation JUMPS off of the page!!!!! I would love to do Go Sober, but I fear for my sanity and the lives of loved ones and strangers alike within a 5 mile radius, although…………………… never say never!!!!!

@coda, good luck for tomorrows op, I guess you’ll be off of your foot for a while so I hope you have a BIG bell to summon your OH & sons whenever you need something (or just for a laugh)!!! The shoe will literally be on the other foot!!!!

    Keep on keeping on people!!!!

@flourbaby, what do you mean desperate? Just because I keep trawling the wine club site and have ordered 24 bottles so far this month does not mean I have a wine problem! Does it? 😂🥂

    Day 12 California USA NFD

Yesterday’s FD was pretty easy and made up for most of the weight gain from over the weekend. 133.8 or 60.7 kg. BMI is 21.6. Just a few pounds til goal and hope they go quickly. Traveling for work Thurs and Friday, so have to be careful what I eat.

Hope everyone in FL gets back their power and things get cleaned up. Can’t even imagine how frustrating that must be.

Good luck to everyone who’s fasting today. I’m doing a fast tomorrow since I’ll be traveling on my normal FD.

    Second post

My husband has just sent me this link to watch the original Horizon programme. I don’t know whether it has been posted before.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01lxyzc/horizon-20122013-3-eat-fast-and-live-longer

    Day 12 – Cumbria UK – FD

Friends and lots of yummy red wine 🍷 and food 🥘🧀yesterday but it was great to catch up with old friends 😈Oh dear really needed today’s FD 😇But that’s what so good about this WOL – over indulgence counteracted by a great FD……
A lovely 8km hike this morning and best of all sunshine and no rain until we had completed our walk – a great way to start this FD!

Dry-wino’s – I am impressed by your willpower…….will be interesting to see how you all view/think about wine once you can consume again!!!!

Drinking lots of water and cups of tea with skimmed milk today and saving my calories for very thick homemade kefir and berries later this evening – under 300cals for the day!

@bert1802 – good to hear you are OK and @penz – not heard from you since Day 6 when you were planning on hitting the road the next day – hope you are OK? Thinking of you xx
@happymargo – doing great hitting 149.2lbs yesterday! Keep at it…..
@pdoran23 – monitor portion size on NFD – you need to keep at TDEE if you want to lose weight – drink plenty of water – stay strong and focused!
@redrockgirl302 – had a great 8km hike this morning with a couple of good friends – sunshine and wonderful scenery = so healing for the soul and my knee did not complain too much ☺️
@liathanail – thanks for sharing – your job sounds fascinating and the travelling is a bonus especially if you get to know the cities you get to visit
@fastlife – Welcome and it’s never too late to join – read the introductory posts to find out a bit about everyone and get some great advice
@metatauta – good to hear that @chitowngal is still with us and doing well – Thank you for passing on her message
@coda – will be thinking of you for your op tomorrow – hope all goes well xx

Some great stories about people staying strong despite temptations or personal difficulties 👍Great Job
Reading the posts this evening has inspired me with my FD for sure – I have a yoga class tomorrow morning so planning on keeping fasting until after

“Every morning starts a new page in your story. Make it a great one today!”

Sorry the programme is probably only available in the U.K.

    Day 13 NZ FD

I am inspired every day to continue on my journey by reading your posts. Thanks.
I am hopeless at counting calories but some of you seem so precise. Advice please on how to get better at knowing values of every day food?

    Second post

Today I was a wet wino

    Mari

Day 12 Massachusetts USA NFD @mema02 The two most popular nutrition/calorie apps (which also have websites) are Lose It and My Fitness Pal. I’ve used Lose It for years. All the trackers are inherently imprecise but I think it all evens out (some days I’ve over-estimated and others under-estimated.) In order to use Lose It with the 5/2 I have to ignore the calorie recommendations of the App but the Nutrition graphs are very helpful. Also, if Lose It figures I should eat no more than 6000 calories/week (due to age and size), I can use that info to guide my NFD’s . Good luck!

    second post
@mogaman thank you. I will look at both apps. I am really happy with this WOL, it works for me. The more I know the less I’ll grow 🙂

    Still day 12 –

@jarbia – glad you’re getting your mojo back!

@saffy420 – you will hopefully be pleasantly surprised to fit into the sz.16!

@belfastsink – can you give a little more detail on your yummy sounding Asian broth?

@krisnia & @westiewench – chocolate is my favorite food group. I have found a pretty delicious SF Chocolate with Almonds bar at Trader Joe’s. That’s my treat in the pantry.

@bert1802 – glad you’re doing okay. Hope we hear from @penz soon. Do you know from which part of Florida she comes?

@coda – praying your surgery goes well!

Remember that together we are stronger!

    Day 12 Melb AUS FD
    Day 13 Melb AUS NFD

Hope it’s not too late to start but I really need accountability. I get to my Goal weight and then don’t maintain- hence my nickname as a constant reminder 🙂
If someone could add me to the spreadsheet I will try and add details, thankyou

@stayinthin you are on the spreadsheet, never too late, and welcome to the September Challenge.

    2nd post

Phew it’s been a busy few days. I’ve now had time to catch up on posts.
@bert looking forward to reading your novel
@stayinthin welcome. I’d love to add you but I’m having difficulty updating the spreadsheet on my iPad.
@at and fellow pocket winos too many 🍷🍸🍾 and NFDs lately. Hoping quieter times will allow me to get on track. But I have been enjoying lots of country hikes. Hopefully they’ll balance out.
@mema02 good advice from @mogaman. A little trick to help with calories and portion control. Work out the calories of all your dry goods and pop measuring cups and spoons in the packets or containers. Saves time and angst having to work out calories and stops portion creep. E.g I have a 1/3 cup measure in my oats container. But I wouldn’t be too obsessive about accuracy. The beauty of 5:2 is being able to relax a little and not to let calorie counting take over. I’m sure this is why I’ve been able to maintain for so long @stayinthin
@coda hope the surgery goes well
Off to do lots of gardening now that Spring is here.

    2nd post
thank you for thinking of me for tomorrow ❤
@stayinthin welcome, it’s never too late.

    Day 13 Sydney FD

Oh my goodness I feel human again! Been sick all month, got the flu, been having issues with asthma, but finally getting better! Still have the remnants and need to be careful with my asthma, but mentally I’m energised, which is a good sign. And on the plus side I did my first water fast this week, but only because I was so sick and I never want to eat when I’m sick.

Who’s ready to fast today? I’ve compiled a list from the spreadsheet, but please update it if I’ve missed you or you’re fasting today.

    @annemarilyn

    @msraven
    @njgirl
    @rainbowsmile
    @smartmart
    @snowflake56
    @stevetoontaxidriver

Together we can do this. Before you eat something, check if you’re really hungry and if it gets you closer to your goals. Good luck today 😁

    P.s. @debster251 @quebecoise @laurealice how’s the sugar break going? We are strong!

    Day 13 – USA – FD

    @coda, thinking of you today!

    Day 3 NZ FD

Today is Wednesday and a FD after hubby made nachos for dinner last night and I still stayed under my tdee – I last ate at 5pm last night – water today and a black coffee so far – am trying to hold out until lunch time to make it a 19 hour fast – 30 mins to go 🙂

What do you ladies do during TOM with weighing in – I don’t want to become disheartened even though I know I carry heavier during that time I will use that to self sabotage

@happymargo – I am defiantly going to chalk that one up and run with it 🙂 4 x liquid fasts you are a machine – I seriously don’t think I could complete 1!
@coda – exciting thank you – I will add my info into the spreadsheet – such an awesome way to remain accountable
@mema02 Another fellow 5:2 from NZ YAHHH – I use the app MFP (my fitness pal) its free and you can log all of your food – I log everything and it helps me maintain my calories and be more aware of the value of food – most things are already put in and its very user friendly.
@annemarilyn Thanks for the tip – I find sugar free chocolate has an additive that disagrees with me and makes me sick – I have find a hot Jarrah sachet helps and is low in calories

    Day 13 Melbourne, Australia, FD
Hi all, I’ve been absent a week or so, still sick, I hate sinus infections. But I must continue! You are all so supportive and remind me this is a long journey not a quick fix.

In an effort to improve my health I have booked an impromptu quick trip (5 nights) to Port Douglas for myself and my teenage daughter and my youngest son (15 and 5 respectively) in an effort to see the sunshine and get some salty air and water into my sinuses!! My OH I think can see how desperately sick I’ve been all winter and need a break!! Lucky me. And yes, my daughter will be good company, I’ve been blessed (lucky?) to have skipped all the regular grief that can come with girls in their teens and instead have someone who makes me laugh and I want to spend time with. And she’s fabulously patient with her little brother!

So I’ll remind myself to stick with this, it’s for the improvement of not just my weight but my overall health – that’s one of the main reasons I did this. I would love to see my asthma, sinuses, bronchiectasis all just go away……. or wither a bit!

    Keep strong everyone

    2nd post

@westiewench I don’t weigh myself at all around my period because I don’t want to be discouraged. I also only weigh myself after a fast day, and this month I’m aiming to weigh myself only a couple of times and use measurements and clothes as the real progress markers. Hope that helps?

    Day 12 Vancouver Island
    NFD

    Day 12 Canada FD

B2B fasts as the next few days will be hectic.
Found it easy and am getting a new understanding of how much I need to eat. Really enjoying the challenge. Thanks everyone

Day 13 – UAE – FD (24 hrs Water only fast)
    Day 12 – UAE – NFD
    Day 11 – UAE – FD
    Day 10 – UAE – NFD
    Day 9– UAE – NFD
    Day 8 – UAE – NFD (weigh-in 79.4kg up 0.5k after 4 days b2b 🙁 )

It has been a while, I was busy that I did not get a chance to post… I hope that everyone is well especially during this time of bad natural disaters

Anyways, @basyjames; thank you for adding my name to the spreadsheet
I am surprise to see gain 0.5kg after 4 b2b fasting, I don’t know what went wrong, but I guess this is because I was munching on nuts! Thank Gad I am still under my maintenance weight.
I started from yasterday a 24hrs water fast to see how it feels. I am half way through it and so far it seems ok…

Got to do a lot to catch up with the post and I will have to make time between today and tomorrow to check on how everyone doing.

    Day 13, Guildford UK, WFD

Very disappointed in myself, it should be easier to be dry for one month but yesterday I fell off the wagon.

The quality (not quantity) of my food has been awful just recently whereas previously it seemed the other way around. I am so sad.

    Bootstrap.

    Mari

Day 12 NFD St. Louis USA
Day 13 NFD St. Louis USA

Realized I didn’t check in earlier and now it’s past midnight so checking in for two days. Busy week. Planning to catch up on posts this weekend.

All my best to all of you.

    Day 13 – Nuremberg, Germany – NFD
My first back to back went well. Just a small yoghurt for lunch then pork steak with new potatoes for dinner. Doing the two days at the start of the week combined with the travelling seemed to work well.

    Day 13 London FD

    Day 13, Emden Germany, FD

@coda hope everything goes well today, take care and let others take good care of you.

    Day 13 Chester UK FD

@coda good luck on the surgery. @bigviking, I don’t think you’re desperate at all, I’m already in a bad mood because I said I would drive on Saturday to a family party – one proposed weekend without booze and I’m not a happy bunny.
@mema02 I’m another one to recommend MFP, it does tell you off when you don’t input enough calories on FDs, but it’s great for tracking calories. It’s not perfect but you’re never going to be that far off.

Bought a dress yesterday to surprise my husband when he leaves work at the end of October. Hopefully will have eradicated another half stone by then – might help when the shorts arrive as well!

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

    Day 10,11,12 Uk NFD
    Day 13 /14 UK B2B FD

HI been away with limited WiFi and unable to post. Getting back to normal with back to back FD and maybe a third on Friday… will see how it goes. Looking forward to catching up with all the posts.

    Day 11 | 🇮🇪 Ireland | FD
    Day 12 | 🇮🇪 Ireland | FD

Back into the swing of things after a tough start to the month. FD tomorrow, Thursday.

    DAY 13 – UK – FD

My 3rd fd in a row! Mind you I am eating between 7-800 cals a fd….not 500 as I did before…but it’s working, as it’s enough to keep going. Dentist then Bridge to-day so it takes my mind off food and makes fd’s easy. Fish/salad/1/2 jkt potato plannned for suppper.

    @coda – good luck for to-day.

    Good luck all.

    Day 13, UK, FD

Not sure whether it was the almonds at lunch time or the bread with my evening meal, but something is holding on to water this morning 😡

    Day 13, London, UK, FD

@bigviking, I agree, that isn’t desperation, THAT is what I call forward planning!!!! I’ve already picked out a fruity red for my breakfast on October 1st!!!!………….. Of course, I meant lunch!!!!

@rainbowsmile, I hadn’t realised you had joined our band of dry-winos, one quick detour off the wagon doesn’t cancel your membership though!!! You’re back with us so stick with it, draw a line under yesterday and stay DRY!!!! You’re now in good company – @rainbowsmile, @flourbaby, @bigviking, @awilson, @jessyoursize, @happymargo and our honorary member @bert1802!!! You may need a quick reset regarding food choices, I have a habit of binging on rubbish……………… just because I can!!! I know that a couple of FDs will turn it around, but I’m not sure why the 2 steps forward 1 step back approach grabs hold of me sometimes, hence dry September with an aim to be more mindful and actually think before I stuff ANYTHING into my mouth!!!! I much prefer to keep going forward (downward) without looking or stepping backwards!!!

Stay strong everyone, re-read your earlier posts for motivation, it really helps and as @at said –

“If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 13, Gozo Malta, fd

Coda I said a little prayer for the success of your op today. May you be well again.

Today is the last of my three fast days.

I hope penz is well too.

Have a great Wednesday everyone, onwards and downwards

    Day 13 Belfast 🌦 FD 🐢🗡🍷💪

I’m totally inspired with all the B2Bs going on here. Just under 500 cals Monday, about 800 cals today and am aiming for a nice low FD today.

Thanks @coda. Wishing you the very best of luck with your surgery.👍 That little plant is getting well watered! 🌾
@mema02 – Like @westiewench I use My Fitness Pal and have done one and off for years. It’s useful if you’re making recipes because you can scan the barcodes of ingredients. Also you can link it to a Fitbit etc. although I don’t recommend counting and eating the cals from your exercise because it gives a false sense of security!
@stayinthin welcome and this is the right place for accountability!
@losing_it I’m doing well thank you. As long as the temptation is not there, I’m fine! Just knowing I’m accountable to you is a real inspiration! @quebecoise is taking a break from the forum but hopefully the rest of the little group will hang on in there! I see you’re ahead of the game as usual. Thanks for putting me in the pocket list.
@metatauta – it’s lovely to have the support of a ‘real’ friend as well as this cyber group!
    MelF123 enjoy your sunshine break.
@rainbowsmile – after what you’ve been through, cut yourself some slack! Take one day at a time and let yourself heal, Mari, and never be disappointed in yourself. We are human and fallible. Just start all over again. ((Hugs))

Remember: I CAN AND I WILL!

Day 13 Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 FD.

    Day 13 Wales NFD

@coda – wishing you a successful op and a speedy recovery.

    Day 13…..Florida……FD

It was so nice to wake up with electric this morning, even better was being cold because of the A/C. So, it’s back to work and back fasting today. Please forgive me, as it may take me a couple days to read all the posts that came in, now that I’m no longer living like a caveman.

We did venture towards the water yesterday. Thank God, the house loses were minimal in my area. But man those poor trees, came out of the ground by there roots. We have one but it’s in our back lot, so, it’s going to stay there for a bit. It’s kind of cool, how it tipped over but the roots being so large, they are half in ground still and half out. I wish I had a picture to show you all!

Has anyone heard from @penz yet? They say nearly a million people are without power in the state. We were with out power for about 38 hours!

Okay, well life goes on and so shall I…….

My husband told me to stop acting like a flamingo, so I had to put my foot down!

    Day 13, Belfast, NFD

FD was a bit tough yesterday – even though I’m busier at work. Found myself just DREAMING about food 😉 But, I’m nearly 5lbs down from when I weighed myself at the start of this challenge so hopefully going in the right direction.

All the Pocket Winos – wow! You guys rock lol!

@coda – all the best, take it easy.

@annemarilyn – here’s the link to that recipe:

    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2011/dec/02/chicken-egg-noodle-soup-recipe

I haven’t worked out the calories yet. I slightly adapted it and it was really yummy. I found another noodle broth recipe, it was maybe on this site. I’m going to give it a go…

Thai spiced veggie noodles with egg

1 nest of M&S fine egg noodles (80cal)
Mushrooms, Chinese leaf, courgette and carrot (or whatever is in fridge, use >80cal worth)
    Stock cube
Thai spice mix (I use the frozen Waitrose one as it’s easier than getting separate ingredients)
    Egg (70cal)

Use a good non-stick pan to dry fry veg in the spice mix (or use spray oil), then add stock to cover, par cook noodles in the mix, then make a dent in the noodles and crack an egg in, simmer until cooked. Very filling and really tasty, less than 250cals.

Right, enough about food lol! Good luck everyone today.

    Update day!

    Day 8 UK FD
    Day 9 NFD
    Day 10 NFD
    Day 11 FD
    Day 12 FD
    Day 13 FD

Struggling with some of my FDs. I’m eating too much (around 1000kcal) in the evenings. Too many snacks around. But my exercise levels are increasing too so just about compensating!

I’m doing an Asics pace challenge on Runkeeper and aiming to do my best 5km time for quite sometime very soon, in spite of arthritic knees (which seem to be no problem now I’ve lost weight!)

Good luck to all you fasters. Keep it up and September will go along with a few pounds of flab :]

    Day 13 – 🇬🇧-FD

Day 13- Colorado USA- controlled NFD

@AnneMarrilyn – Good luck on your 4-day b2b! Oddly, for me it got easier. I did hover around the 500 calories mark & found the best way to avoid headaches was to balance My high fluid intake with sodium in bouillon (7 cals.) & miso soup (35 cals.) Plus, the hot broths felt more like a meal than fizzy water.
    You can do it!

    Day 13, South Wales, NFD

@coda, good luck with your surgery, hope all goes well
@bert1802 so glad the damage was not too extensive for you and the electric’s back
