  • Completely new and unsure of where I’m at here.

I’m wanting to drink protein shakes (2-4, at about 20-25g per shake, and depending on activity of the day) on fast days. They should have no calories or absolutely tiny amounts, same with carbs. The protein shakes are more or less just protein. (whey) My question is whether you guys would still consider that as a “fasting” day. I don’t think I can afford to go without as my body would cannobalise the muscles, especially when taking into account my cardio workouts and even more so the resistance workouts.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Progress (again):

Protein has four calories per gram, and you didn’t say what else is in the shakes, so at a minimum there are around 100 calories per shake. If you eat less than 600 calories in a day (see my other answer to you) it will be a diet day.

    Good Luck!

I agree. My Whey protein powder is 85 calories per scoop and I do count them towards my daily goal.
    Stef.

I have had great luck using protein shakes for my fast days. When I fast I have a shake in the morning at 7am then a very small 300 calorie meal again at 7pm. I’m not sure where you are getting your numbers for calories though. My whey protein has 140 calories per serving (20grams protein)+ amino acids and a small amoount of carbs.
For my AM meal I will blend 1 scoop of protein (140 calories) with 2 cups of almond mild (60 calories) and a small banana (85 calories). This gives me a total caloric intake right around 285 and I don’t eat again for at least 12 hours. I’ve found that this works for me because protein keeps me feeling full longer.
If you try this out please let me know what you think.
