Day 7, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD
Sick since yesterday. Eating what I want. Frustrated because I cannot hike and the weather is so beautiful.
Going to bed.

Day 3 – Day 7 – Cumbria UK – all NFD
Day 3 – over TDEE by some 400cal 😈 (was 53.4kg on the morning of Day 3 after Day 2 FD)
Day 4 – over TDEE by some 450cals 😈
Day 5 – just below TDEE 😇
Day 6 – over TDEE by some 500cals 😈
Day 7 – will definitely be over TDEE by some 500cals again 😈
Apologies for not logging in since Day 2 – Been busy over the past 5 days and also way too much socialising = too much food and wine, including this weekend…….
Only 1xFD this past week but managed to keep up with all my exercise classes and also did a 6km hike on Tuesday and a 10km one yesterday – Not going to weigh myself this week as it might be too depressing 😟but will definitely regroup next week!
Regarding the conversations about scales fluctuations – even in maintenance I find that at times there is up to 2kg fluctuation over the week depending on what I have eaten/drunk and what my daily water intake is!!
Just to share – I don’t add cals to my TDEE for any exercise done as I find that is a good way for helping me maintain – I worked out my TDEE on this website using the “lightly active” level of exercise which allows me just 1506cals/day (MFP allows me 1540cals/day) so any extra exercise done is calories in the bank for when I overindulge…….
@cipher1971 @bethwhite2909 @happy-go-lightly @onedayordayone @rhody87 @southernmom @aljomisaza @lilimar @lovemylife001 @claudy @adl3217 – Hope I have not missed any other newbies joining us – WELCOME to this WOL (Way of Life) – 5:2 is a great way to lose weight slowly and steadily and then to maintain! Plus the health gains are a great reason for making it a permanent WOL – You will put weight back on if you go back to old lifestyle and way of eating………..
The best advice I can give to anyone new to this WOL is to stick to the basic 5:2 for the first month – The following link by @simcoeluv might prove helpful and answer a lot of your questions:– https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
Once you have got used to the basic fasting day then try experimenting and you will find what works best for you.
Welcome back @in-it-to-thin-it – those pesky lbs will soon be gone!
@missj2002 and @Emma-Taylor- nice to see you back too
@saffy420 – OUCH – hope you are feeling a bit better x
@jessyoursize – Happy Anniversary 🥂 how many years?
@okeydokey and @coda – 🤗
@missybear – your “clown pants” made me smile….
@jessyoursize – Wow you sure have had a fascinating medical history (I’m a retired RGN!) so good to hear that all is good now and hopefully this WOL will support your future health – take care xx
@Strawberriesandcream – good to hear that your OH’s recovery is going well and that he is being a good patient……I have great sympathy for that little 😈by your side yesterday – he has been haunting me a bit this past week too 😉
@snowflake56 – I also love Kazuo Ishiguro books e.g. Never Let Me Go – When We Were Orphans but could never finish The Unconsoled????
@mari84 – It’s good that you can offload on here- no judgement just great support whether it’s to do with 5:2 or just life…….. 🤗
@dykask – I’m the opposite as I find a FD with lots of hot water with lemon helps clear a nasty cold for me – hope you feel better soon
@daffodil2010 – definitely a 💃for that 20lbs dispatched
@in-it-to-thin-it – Hope you had a fab birthday 🥂🎂
“Weight loss is like driving: If you ever veer off the road, just make a U-Turn and head back in the right direction”
Day 7 – McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD
I should be fasting today but I’m so tired after staying out photographing until the wee hours I’m not sure I have the mental energy. It’s still morning and I need a nap. 😕 Okay enough whining!!
@jessyoursize – OMG how awful to loose so much work!! I hope your IT people can figure it out!! I think I will go back up my computer right now. 💻 Balloons sound wonderful.
@redrockgirl302 – Sorry you are not feeling well, take care of yourself.
Day 7 – Reykjavik – NFD
Yesterday was OK. Had a light breakfast and then only one pear for lunch. But then it went a little downhill. We order pizzas for dinner and then had some sweets and chocolate afterwards.
Today I hosted a big brunch at home with a whole lot of calories 🙂 Scrambled egg and bacon, American pancakes with marble syrup the lot. It was fantastic!
I will try to eat light for diner to even out the day.
One thing I’ve noticed lately is that I’ve started eating pears like never before. I have never really found pears especially good until now. And I eat them everyday, just love them.
One of my sub-goals was to control my weekends better (starting Friday afternoons) and so far it going OK. Let’s see what the scale will show me after the weekend.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Day 7 – USA – NFD
Second post: @Inittothinit, happy birthday! I had your name in my diary to remind me and overlooked it this morning, sorry! @redrockgirl302, hope you feel better!
Day 7 California NFD
Up a little bit after my NFD yesterday, but that’s normal. I need to work at getting to my goal in the next couple weeks.
@redrockgirl302 – Hope you feel better.
@awilson – What have you been out photographing?
Day 7/Day 8/NFD/Melbourne Australia
Looking forward to a beautiful warm spring day. Fought the 🧀🐲 on Friday and Saturday saddly lost the fight. Rebooting today and planning ocean trout with lots of vegetables for dinner tonight. Yesterday was spent fertilising and weeding my garden. After 6 strenuous hours I was too tired to think about dinner. I made orichette with broccoli, butter and parmesan. Great comfort food and so easy. I only eat pasta once a fortnight now. It used to be 2 – 3 times a week.
@dykask hope your cold is clearing up? @redrockgirl hope you are feeling better?
@anna6 glad you are recovering.
@jessyoursize what a stressful time. Do keep us informed. Amazing will power. Only one marguerite.
@coda wishing you a speedy recovery
@okeydokey. How traumatic especially with the added stress of caring for your father. Thoughts are with you. Glad to hear Ford Prefect and Booper Dooper are still embracing this WOL
Happy birthday to all who are celebrating and happy anniversary too. As usual I forgot my pen and paper.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Tomorrow will be a fast day.
Day 8 NZ NFD
Thanks for talking about weight fluctuations. I have been on the scales everyday but think it’s time to back off to once a week, as the rise and fall is like a roller coaster and if its up I obsess all day about it. So time to concentrate on how great I feel instead of numbers.
Kia Kaha- Stay strong.
Day 6 Lancaster, PA NFD CD
Yesterday, I broke my 45 hour fast with a small avocado and dark lettuce salad, ginger dressing. 😊2 pieces of Surf and turf Sushi. @jessyoursize I joined you and had a Margherita!💃 🤦♀️ ( mixed emotions)🤣…. 😊 Today, I had tai coconut vegetable soup. @fordprefect will be making a grilled shrimp, scallop vegetable tai soup this evening.😊
I’m trying a new recipe to help clear arteries and support heart health. It says for congestive heart repair also, it’s a preventative for congestive heart disease. I’ve put all the ingredients in my iPot. The recipe calls for low bowl on the stove. I was able to set my IPot on low. Of course once I make it, if it’s good, I’ll make it for my father. My DD says it smells delicious ….😊 that’s a good sign. If anybody is interested here is the recipe.
Yunani Concoction
1 cup ginger juice
1 cup garlic juice
1 cup lemon juice and apple cider vinegar
Mix them and heat them on flame till they reduce to 3 cups.
Cool reduced mixture and add 3 ? cups of Honey
Drink 3 sips a day. I tried it, I put less honey in it. Just enough to take bitterness out. I tasted great! A great way to get rid of congestion. 😊
Since my DD has an allergic reaction to sugar. I will make 1/4 of it with Stevia so she can try it.
Here is the link for the video

@flourbaby …. I 💛 your method with the tea. I have been neglecting drinking the tea or warm water with lemon today. I will start again This after noon. ✨
@at 🤗Big hug to you!✨🎶
Big {{{{{Hugs to our group}}}} carefully eating and drinking isn’t easy. With this WOL we get to have a treat now and then.😊 Remember we can always push the reset button and get back on track after overeating. We can love this WOL and WOE!
@redrockgirl302 Sending you warm caring vibes✨ Hope you feel better soon✨
@awilson I worked as a photographer for a bit while in college … very interested what type of photographs are you taking?
My DS, Gabe has asked if I want to walk with him and Sweetie our almost grown pup! Yes, I will, looking to get at least 5,000 steps or 2.5 miles in. ✨
✨✨Wishing Everyone a great Weekend✨✨
Day 7 , Norway, NFD
Successfull friday FD, and i think i liked it. It makes the “weekend” one day shorter..for eating “illegal stuff”…only saturday and sunday left…im gonna think about switching my thursday fd, to friday fd, or maaaaybe keep them both…
And also “yay to me”, down 700gr, finally some movement.
@mari84 – i actually liked the Miso 🙂 i spice it up with lots of chili though, and top off with some tofu…also some good veggies (purre, vårløk, og litt sånn spicy grønnsaker).
Today i made pizza-twirls ( is that a thing? made like cinnamon buns)…but with wholewheat (grovt mel).
And instead of indulging in crisps and chocolate and “smågodt”, i baked chocolate fondant…and one makes me so full i dont need anything else.
All in all, not such a bad day kcal-wise, for a saturday.
Day 7 – Norway – NFD
Havent been here for some days, but thursdays fast went fine. @Penz, thanks for the good advice, I have been thinking of some things I do differently, and I think I might be having too much caffeine on my fast days. So on thursday I replaced several cups of coffee with tea (I love my coffee), and I have stopped drinking those diet cokes almost completely, and never on a fast day. It seems to help a bit, was really tired as well after a long work shift, so slept really well! I also saw on another chat here that someone recommended having a protein-rich supper, so I
ll try that as well.
Been running the morning after each fast day,it really makes me feel good. For some reason I sweat so much more on those runs than on my NFD – runs. weird.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
@maayyaa, great progress! I think I will try your chocolate fondant approach next weekend, as my worst enemy/best friend (?) smågodt (mainly the chocolate pieces) got the best of me today!
Day 7 – West Midlands, UK – NFD
thanks for the reassurance re the weight gain, I weigh in once a week with Weight Watchers, but my I am making monthly goals and trying to ignore the weights between times.
Ran parkrun this morning – always leaves me feeling smug for the rest of the day. then I bought a rebounder. I have always wanted a mini trampoline … not sure what the kids (18 & 19) and the kitties make of it yet. I hope it will add another level to my workouts.
Laters
Hello day 7 from co down ni nfd
Well done @debster251 💃 go you!
@strawberriesandcream – been there done that!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.
Day 7 – USA (Illinois) – NFD
Was busy from very early morning judging singers for our state choir eligibility. It was a long and tiring day, but now I am making treats for church tomorrow morning. Might have to sample a little —
Great having son here for his 25th class reunion. We ate out last night, so I can see a couple FD’s on my docket this week! I need to keep at maintenance.
Onward and downward.
Day 7 Sicily CD Although I did well yesterday and today, because of a couple of indulgent days this week, I’ll have to have nothing but water or tea tomorrow not to go over my weekly target. I’ll at least make it a FD. One off week in a month in Sicily is not bad. I’ll find out when I get home if I’m kidding myself about the numbers. Best wishes to all worldwide.
Day 8 NFD Country west Australia
Day 7 NFD
Day 6 NFD
Staying well away from the scales whilst the chef is in residence.
Eating very healthily – just a little too much.
Having entrees, desserts, wine in abundance, chocolates and enjoying every morsel. Life happens!
Have not read any posts for 3 days but plan to spend a lazy Sunday reading posts, then planking and squatting like a fiend to make up!!
Off to church
Have lovely day all.🙏🤗
second post
@metatauta congratulations on seeing the end of 170 – well done.
@coda – hope your toe is getting better. My SIL had to have 4 toes pinned for rheumatoid arthritis some years ago and it has been quite successful.
@awilson, sounds like a hard gig being up most of the night photographing but guessing that the night pictures would be amazing.
@anna, glad you have recovered – sounds a bit scary, fainting like that.
@debster251, well done my friend!! You are way ahead of me at the moment and I am really pleased for you.
@dykask hope your cold improves. As someone ?? has already posted, zinc, Vit C and honey lemon drinks seem to help me, but different things work for different people.
@jessmysize, I sympathise. I know how awful it is to lose work that can’t be retrieved. Apparently there are gurus ( probably the ones working on your computer) who are able to retrieve almost anything that’s been lost.
Everyone tells me that nothing is ever really irretrievable – but I have learnt to my detriment that things actually CAN be gone into the ether forever. My thoughts and prayers and energy with you across the miles because that is truly distressing. 😢
Day 8 UK NFD
I didn’t have time to eat until half past six yesterday as it was such a busy day. I was short three helpers and had 6 new animals arrive and had someone bring two rabbits for me to groom that took hours as they hadn’t been done for ages. The new arrivals all had to be groomed too and in the piggies cases bathed too. Poor little things were quite disgusting as they were and must have been so uncomfortable 🙁 One of them had claws that spiraled three times and were intertwined and digging into her toes and stopping her from moving them 🙁 The other had a tennis ball sized lump of poo and fur on her back. She ought to be a long haired beauty but now she is bald except for her head. The rabbits weren’t as bad fortunately, but only because they are young. They are all lionheads and have very fluffy ridiculous coats that they can’t possibly look after themselves. I hate that humans breed these poor creatures that end up suffering so badly. Those with natural coats keep themselves immaculately clean. The rabbits immediately appreciated being here and did lots of binkying and exploring. They seem to be very cheerful little things. There are another two of them that I am going to try and take later this month before the people move but for now there is no more space. I will hopefully be able to put some of them together once the bucks have been castrated.
Anyway I didn’t have time to eat until half past six when I ate well but then had an accident with a bag of nuts that somehow disappeared down my throat. Ho hum. Just back under 11 stone this morning so no harm done. Lots of hutches and sheds to clean today so must get on.
Day 8-uk-NFD
Only fasted once last week and put on 1lbs.Next week will be better. Planning on fasting Monday and Wednesday. My work days usually I’m that busy I don’t have time to eat. Had a lovely meal out with friends last night with lots of yummy food and red wine. Not going to weigh in this week. Just do the fasts and feel better. Have a good week x
Hello day 8 co down ni nfd
@songbirdme – we had your salmon dish for dinner last night – delicious, the salmon really was melt in your mouth. Had it with stir fried veggies.
If only that was all I had lol no wine, no wine gums but a packet of Viennese whirls found their way into my shopping and so moreish! I’ll only have 1 with a coffee, oh that was nice and they are small I’ll have another couple……
One of my sons girlfriends has a blog on beauty, makeup, hair products etc if anyone would like a nosey?
https://palegirlrambling.co.uk
@fatrabbit – it’s good to have you back with your stories of what is happening in the rescue centre. What does binkying mean? Man has a lot to answer for a lot of things they do to animals ☹
Enjoy whatever is left of your weekend 🌻
Day 8 Wales NFD
@fatrabbit thanks for the bunny update, I enjoy hearing about your rescue centre…..and congratulations on your weight maintenance.
Plan is for a healthy controlled day to put me in a good place for an easy FD tomorrow.
Happy Sunday everyone.
Day 8 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD
Fasted until 6pm yesterday but then snacked on crisps, popcorn, wine, garlic bread with dinner……..and even jelly and ice cream after dinner.
The scales this morning were not kind.
Will try to be a bit more controlled today but there will be red wine this evening with dinner.
Then tomorrow is reset and a liquid only FD. My father is coming to stay with me for a few days this week so I will have to carefully plan my remaining FD’s around Dad.
@debster251 well done on that loss. I am a bit evangelical now re the liquid only FD, they seem to work really well ☺️ Though nearly had an argument with my Slimming World friend on Friday as she just would not understand the benefits of fasting, and liquid only was a shocker 😳
Day 8 London. NFD
I’ve been doing the WOL for about 4 months. I haven’t weighed myself once, because it’s counterproductive for me and it’s hardly reliable anyway. But my weight has been slowly going down and my fat gut seems to have gone down. Yippee. Still plenty of way to go.
Does anybody fancy doing a liquids only FD tomorrow with me? I’ve never done just liquids – Not sure if I can do it but I can try. 😏
Day 8, Newcastle UK, CD
Unlike Friday which was a TOOCNFD, yesterday was an NFD within TDEE – just. Decided it may be prudent to finish the ice cream and double cream before the start of the new week. Thanks for all your empathic comments – you really did help me feel more rational about my BLIP. As of today I’m back to basics and will weigh once weekly.
Wishing you all a great start to the beginning of this new week.
Day 8, London, UK, NFD
Feeling ok despite a 1lb gain, this doesn’t bother me as I saw my lowest weight EVER yesterday, and as usual I have to see it 2-3 times before it sticks!! Bouncy-bouncy scales!!
@coda – Viennese whirls = ‘Devils food’. I expect they’re Mr. Kiplings (evil, evil man!!) I currently have a box of bakewells and a manor house cake to be despatched to someone skinny (Hey, they need it more than me!!!), I struggle with walking past a bargain, and apples are NEVER 6 for 80p like the bakewells were!!!
@daffodil2010, I’m Soooo tired of trying to explain fasting to people I think would benefit, the closed mindedness of some people surprises me no end. Before I started 5:2 I was sceptical, but thought I’ll give it a try, why not? Now talking to friends who can SEE the 36lb weight eradication in me, yet they STILL talk about ‘starving’ beggar’s belief. No more!!! You truly can take a horse to water……………………..
Stay strong everyone; or as @mema02 would say Kia Kaha everyone!!!! Love it!!!!
@emma-taylor I’ll do a liquid fast with you tomorrow.
Planning on my usual 1 coffee and water with a homemade vegetable juice for dinner. We can hold hands together.
Im hoping to do this Monday Tuesday and Wednesday breaking my fast someday on Thursday so my body can do a real good clean out. My OH is tagging along but he is planning on eating raw vegetables and some nuts through the day. I’ll cook a big pot of stew today so I don’t need to cook for anyone tomorrow.
Day 8 – Perth, Western Australia – FD
The thing that has worked best for me with this diet is the short term goals. Today is a fast day. The next day is a controlled day etc. The more that I think long term, the more anxious I feel about things ever being possible. I have still been doing that to some extent (“will I EVER fit in that dress?”) but less so. I am so focused on doing the fast days eating the right sorts of calories , have I lost any weight after that fast day that I have been forgetting what I have achieved so far.
This morning I weighed 64kg (140.8lb)! I have lost 10kg (22lb) is just under 12 weeks! What the…? How did that happen.
Sorry, I don’t mean to seem to seem boastful, I’m not one for sharing normally, I’m just feeling ridiculously proud of myself at the moment.
🙂
@tsubaki – WOW you should feel PROUD!! Congratulations you’ve done amazing…..and thanks for sharing your success because it helps to spur us all on xxx
Day 8 – USA (Illinois) – NFD
Glad to hear you liked the salmon @coda – had to look up Viennese whirls as they must be a British temptation. Whew. They do look delish! Keep them over there and away from my shopping cart (or recipe box).
Bringing church treats this morning. Breakfast casserole (eggs, bread, sausage, cheese) is baking now. TTFN
Onward and downward.
Day 8…….Florida……NFD
Happy Sunday Ya’ll…….
I finally have a few minutes this morning to catch up with all the posts. Sorry, if I reply to something that a couple days old.
I’m so glad for my day off today, the week seems unusually long this time around.
Starting Mon. I am planning on making some changes to how I’m doing things. I truly feels as if I’ve gone rogue, not following the plants directed. Funny thing is the only thing I’ve managed to stay true to for the last week, is no sweets.
So here’s my plan, it’s starts tonight at 7pm….
No eating between 7pm and noon daily
True 500 calorie fasts on M, W and F
More water
No sweets
Dropping 3lbs in Oct.
There you have it……. a reboot!
So a little story for the newbies and those struggling! I started 5:2, the last week of Oct. 2016, found this group and have been an active member since Nov. 2016. I’ve gone off the deep end, fallen of the wagon, be run over by the wagon, layed in the dirt, dealt with a sick mother, gone on vacation, been through the holidays, rode out a hurricane, had a massive water leak in the house and so much more. Each time, I’ve also had a hiccup in my eating, each time I’ve had a reboot and in almost one year have lost consistently 32lbs, not counting what I’ve lost and regained several times then the number is probably closer to 50lbs.
Now, since my baby’s were little, I’ve done every type of diet you can imagine, I think the cabbage soup was the worst….FYI. In 1999, I did weight watchers, lost 14lbs and was able to actually keep it of for 8 years but since 2007, I’ve gained 30lbs, what I lost plus more. Each one of these diets failed eventually because of really not being substanable in times of adversity. But the 5:2 WOL is, just reboot and your off again. Have a bad day today, fast tomorrow that easy.
So tomorrow we reboot! Join me in defeating adversity and not our WOL!
@metatauta……I got my seeds too…..so excited
@inittiwinit……Happy Birthday!
@coda….. sorry about your maybe infection. My family and I are a RX free family and use herbal medicine to cure what is bothersome. There is a salve or you can get it in liquid form called silverbotics, you can get it at any natural market. If you get the salve you can put it on the open infections and should have it cleared up in 2 or 3 days, if applied 3 times a day.
@tsubaki……Congrats on your fantastic weight loss! Shout it from the roof tops you deserve it!
Welcome all newbies…..Glad you all here!
Well, I’m off to get my morning chores done…..I’m decluttering my oversized paper hoard this morning!
I saw a little stiletto of a man, he’s on the loose, he’s on the loose, carrying a can of fandango!
Day 8, UK, NFD
Hi all, Can I belatedly join this challenge? I have been trying all year to get into the 5:2 dieting but life has just been against it! Problems with my mother’s care and then her passing away early summer combined with being away from home looking after grandchildren meant that despite stating the diet twice, I could not keep on with it. Anyway, life has now calmed down a little and I started again on September 26 and have lost 3 lb so far. So my goal would be to lose another 3 pound by the end of October. It may not happen as we have another weeks childminding at half term, so will not be in control of meals that week.
Day 8 – USA – NFD
@tsubaki, what a great accomplishment – 22 lbs. in under 12 weeks! No reason to apologize for being proud of yourself! We are all happy for you!! @bert1802, I was thinking the same thing this morning – I came onto the forum 3 mos. after you and we’ve all been through so much together…from births to deaths to natural disasters to man-made disasters to blips and victories and plateaus…I don’t see any end in sight to this thread personally. Even in maintenance, we still post! @bluefootedruby, what a pretty name! Welcome and congrats on dispatching 3 lbs. in one month! Keep going! Condolences on your mom’s passing…I still miss mine and it’s been 13 years!
Day 8, NFD, Canada
Managed to finish the birthday cake yesterday, so that temptation is behind me,literally on my ample behind. Now onto pumpkin pies,mashed potatoes and gravy today with Thanksgiving dinner. It will be a feasting dinner so will just have water,tea, coffee til dinner saving my calories for the good stuff.
@coda
@emma-taylor I will join you tommorrow with a 2 day liquid only fast. Will be pushing the reset, reset, reset button.
@stevetooon,
@metatuta,
@debster,
@tsubaki
@bert
@fat rabbit
Thanks for sharing your success and your trials. I am taking inspiration from you all to keep on going despite the obstacles and small challenges we will face along the way.
Keep the fast!
Day 8 – USA – NFD
FYI, tomorrow will be a NFD…my FDs are Wed. and Fri., so I’ll revise the list if no one minds:
@stevetooon,
@debster,
@tsubaki
@bert
@fat rabbit
And @fatrabbit, so great to hear from you and your bunny stories again!!
Day 8 Sicily CD 2nd post. I have to ask myself why I blew off the fast today and had gelato. Short answer is everybody was doing it. I was right around 500 calories after a main meal of seafood. Then we adjourned to a cafe. I can still call it a CD because I’m well below my TDEE but I want to do better this week! Plus the gelato gave me that uncomfortably full feeling. Lesson learned I hope. Gelato is not leaving the planet!
