  • Hello all im hoping too start the 5.2 from tomorrow but i really want too know if on non fast days do you count calories or not? Ive been trying another diet where you attend a group weigh in once a week and had wondered on doing them both the current group plan which doesnt calorie count but does restrict certains things.
What are people opinions ive also got pcos and underactive thyroid and a mum to a very busy toddler so for me calorie counting everyday may not work. Advice welcome many thanks

I don’t count calories on my off days but I definitely like to mentally track what I’m putting in my body. I’ve found that after fasts I generally don’t eat as much anyway- I’m just not as hungry and my stomach has constricted so I eat less overall. Just try to make healthy decisions on your non-fast days and you will be fine. One other thing- it really bothers me that people refer to non-fast days as “feast” days. The point of this plan is to reduce your overall calorie intake on a weekly basis to lose weight. If you are “feasting” 5 days out of the week then you are going to gain weight no matter what. My advice- eat what you like on non-fast days but be reasonable and always ask yourself, “is this worth it”?

I’m right with you there Jetsman. They are non fast days, and using the word feast is sometimes what causes the confusion between “eat what you like” which is OK and “eat as much as you like” which isn’t.

I also agree about making healthy decisions as eating a lot of processed carbs and sugary foods make you hungrier. Moderation of such foods is a good idea as it will make it easier to keep the weight off once it is gone.

Thank you for reply it makes alot of sense. Im currently doing my first fast and green tea has helped i dont feel at all hungry

I started fasting again today. I tried 2 years ago, I was also attending weight watchers but that had stopped working for me, once I started fasting I decided to stop going as I was losing weight again. But as I was “feasting” on non fast days, because I was being told you can eat anything, It didnt work. Unfortunately I am one of many people who has a very unhealthy relationship with food. But this time I have decided I really do want this to work. So non fast days will be monitored & I will be eating a healthy diet. With a bit of luck it WILL work this time round & I will stick with it!

I count mine too just to track them. I don’t try to stay to a set amount, as the whole point of doing this diet is NOT to count calories on non fast days.
But i’m always interested to see what i eat. Since starting 5:2 i think i’ve def been eating less, not through choice, i’m just not hungry.
I seem to average 1500 cals on normal days with maybe one day where i eat a lot more. I find the days directly after my fast day i’m not that hungry ironically.
