  • Hi all. Time to introduce myself, since I impolitely posted on someone else’s thread yesterday without going through the niceties of saying hello. (Sorry!)
I started this 5:2 regime a couple of weeks ago. I’m just about to start my 3rd week.

I had been low carb dieting since new year and had already lost a couple of kilos that way, which is how I have most successfully dieted previously. However, like so many people, I am a classic yo-yo dieter and each time I lose 3 stones I regain 4, so something had to change. I’ve heard a few people saying that 5:2 works for them, so I thought I would give it a whirl. I hope to be able to manage things in the longer term by using this method.

    I’m 54, female, 5’4″, pre-diabetic and sedentary.
So far so good. At new year I weighed exactly 100kg, the heaviest I have ever been. My target weight is 70kg, which would give me a healthy BMI, and today I weigh 94.5kg. I have lost 3 inches from bust, 2 inches from waist and 4 inches from hips since new year, and my clothes are definitely feeling more comfortable if not actually loose yet. I can see that I have lost weight from my face/neck, and also the back fat is shrinking nicely.
Also I am finding I have less flatulence and reflux, and my sleep apnoea seems to have stopped. I strongly suspect I have a hiatus hernia, but I have not had any symptoms for a few weeks now.

I’m finding the fasting easiest on the days I am at work. Keeping busy definitely helps, and at work I am always occupied, so I don’t think about food so much.
Some days when fasting at home I crack early, like today, but I go as long as I can and am careful to keep calories to a minimum on those days. (Today I only managed 18 hours, but even so, I find that’s helpful).

I’m attempting 4:3 at present as I have such a lot to lose and I would like some quick results in the beginning to keep me motivated. I also have a sunshine holiday booked shortly, and the thought of appearing in public in swimwear is very strongly motivating!
I stick mainly to animal proteins and carbs from vegetables only, no grains at all, since they seem to disagree with me, and definitely no refined sugar.

Sorry for the long post, but happy to meet you all, and I will keep you posted!

    Welcome newwoman!

Seems like you started your road to succes! Congrats on your weightloss.

I can highly recommend doing 4:3 for a little while if you are an impatient person such as I am. I have done quite a few combinations of 5:2; 4:3; ADF and calorie watching over the last 12 weeks with great success. Also dietary changes were very helpful, as I am now eating much healthier.

Best of luck and keep us in the loop!
    Stef.

hi newowman and welcome form me too!!

just as Stef. said you are well on your way so well done!! 🙂

Just checking in. I didn’t manage the 4:3 I planned, but have managed quite a few days of 16:8.
I’m sticking to low carb in the main, but on Thursday took Mum out for fish & chips, which I also ate myself – although, for the first time in living memory I could eat it all.
I’ve lost another kg, so that’s 6.5 since new year.
I’m on holiday for two weeks now, so it will be interesting to see how I manage whilst away, but I am happy that I have lost almost a stone before going.
I’ll report back when I return.

Oops, just noticed my mistake – above post should read ‘I could *not* eat it all’

    well done New Woman!!

I wouldn’t worry too much about your holidays, just enjoy them and if you can throw in a fast then that’s great if not that’s ok too, you can pick up again later!!

    you’re doing fab 🙂
