  • Hi All, I’m another Aussie. I’m 59, female, 169 cm tall, and in Jan this year I weighed 102 kg, I now weigh 92 kg. While a loss of 10 kg is great, I need to lose much more. I’m a fair weather exerciser. I like walking and when I was lighter I did intermittent jogging on my walks. The dog likes it! But I don’t like going out in the cold! As the weather’s getting warmer & the days longer, it will be easier to get up earlier and exercise.
I think I’ve been on every diet from A to Z and then some. The problem is I don’t like what is prescribed to eat, so the best for me is calorie counting and eating what I like. I have given up eating gluten quite some time ago. While I’m not really a coeliac, when I was little I had a wheat allergy. If I now eat products with gluten in them, I end up with a gut ache & more often than not diarrhea which is definately not nice. I’m not having any problems fasting, but I actually find it easier not to eat at all on fast days and when I’m not fasting I’m averaging 1,500 – 1,800 calories per day. 1,800 calories 5 days per week averages out at approximately 1,285 cals per day. I would like to lose another 10 kg by Christmas. It will be interesting to see how I go.
I am an emotional eater, and I used to work in a very stressful industry and I would eat to stop fatigue, rather than going home, eating sensibly, exercising sensibly yada yada yada. I’ve lost most of my 10 kg since the middle of the year and I’ve had to be very disciplined, but I’m losing the craving for sweet things.

Hello, My name is Shirley and I am just trying to get started on this, however I am not sure of how to get started. Maybe I am not reading the website correctly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Email me at stashimolt@gmail.com

    Hi Molly and welcome:

The information on this link will get you started just fine: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Hi KnittingNancy, I too am an Aussie and today is my first day on the 5-2 plan I am going to call it a plan as every time I “diet” after dropping a few kilos I usually put on an extra five, so no more diets. I currently weigh 105 kilos and I am a 61 year grand-mother with many health problems, I have been lucky so far in not having diabetes but I am sure if I do not take control of my life I will soon have that dreadful disease to add to my impressive list of medical disorders. I have not eaten now for 19 hours, drinking only water, tea and I have just had a cup of clear soup, I know I can have an egg or an apple but I feel once I have something solid I may tempted to just keep eating and blow the whole experience. I will also be fasting on Thursday. After watching Sunday Night and seeing the reporter losing over 5kilos and he did not have that much too lose I am hoping to lose at least a kilo this week
Also do you feel better not eating gluten I seem to feel better when I do not eat white bread or maybe I have a yeast intolerance but I am so tired of going to the doctors I am loathe to get it tested. Good Luck to you and the other Aussies starting out on the 5-2 plan

Hi! I am an Aussie too 🙂 26, stay at home mum to 3 kids and married to my best friend who has been on this fasting plan for over a year. I was nursing our last baby so I couldn’t join him until now. I am hoping to lose 5-10kgs but mainly in it for the long term health benefits.

Hi everyone, same here Aussie, fad dieter saw Sunday Night, last night. I did not catch though how long the reporter had been on the plan to lose his weight? Anyway this sounds very achievable, i think sometimes if you are trying to follow a 1200 cal meal plan you are always hungry after you start eating….

I only had a smoothie for breakfast.

    Fingers crossed!

Hi Bellie, if I remember rightly the report fasted for 3 1/2 days straight so the weight loss was substantial.
I agree with you about the eating though, as soon as I eat, I just seem to want more and more. The smoothies sound good.

Hi everyone I’m from Qld and like all of you saw Sunday Night too.
Yes tried every diet on the planet so hoping this will be the one 🙂 – today is my first fasting day – green tea & a hard boiled egg so far (its lunch time) yum! Want to fast 2 consecutive days we’ll see how it pans out. Maybe the grandkids will have give me their stash of lollies lol. Good luck everyone!

After just 36 hours on the fast no solids just fluids I have lost 1kg and I am very happy, got up this morning and was still not over hungry so just had 2 week-bixs for breakfast I will fast again on Thursday and hopefully not gain the 1kg back before I weigh in at Weight Watches on Saturday morning I have been on a plateau for about 3 months and have only lost about 300 grams in all that time, so I am hoping that the 5:2 plan is going to kick start the weight loss again. Good luck to all the Aussies involved

Hi everyone and seen the Sunday Night program about the 5.2 Fast Diet and Exercise. I’m from Queensland and going to give this a go. I have multiple health conditions from chronic migraines, lymphodema in my legs mainly, have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and have had Ovarian Cancer in 2006. I do take medication everyday for life. I have started drinking Green tea with lemon that has increased not been fatigued as much but still experience this and also my mobility has improved. So given this 5.2 Fast Diet and Exercise a go to increase my quality of life as sometimes my days can be difficult with pain and mentally fatigue.

During the 5 days no fasting days you eat normally. By saying that and doing to calculations with the BMI and TDEE how is it possible to track what you consume such as follow a diet plan.

During the 2 days fast days you only consume water, dark coffee and tea without sugar (what about Green Tea with Lemon) and a cup of soup.

The only concern I have when I don’t eat is that I experience my trigger migraine and fatigue.

I wish to start this because I have been trying so hard to loose weight and just impossible because of my thyroid condition. I also like to buy the book and not sure if that available here in Australia.

“1,285 cals per day. I would like to lose another 10 kg by Christmas. ”

I think you are setting yourself up for troubles by eating such low calories. On the other hand i read an article that suggested that eating very low calories for a short period say 3-4 months can be good for people who have a lot to lose.

If you do not lose 10kg by christmas on so few calories, i’ll eat my hat.

By contrast, i was about 80kg when i started and i lost over 10kg in 3 months with no specific exercise, no fasting and eating about 1600 calories a day. Since then i’ have lost more but more slowly somewhat deliberately for a while and now i’ve only got 2kg to go and my goal is 60kg. I’ve only been fasting the last 5-6 weeks. I definitely do like the fasting. It teaches how to go without food for long periods. Its great.

It is true that with fasting you can feel quite ok by eating less but i just wonder if somewhere down the track, you are going to get stuck in one way or another with such low calories at the outset. Anyway if you go forward like this and end up giving up, next time you start a diet, don’t go so low in your calories.

Welcome all new people to this diet. Check out the other aussie thread too and join in there and keep this one going. Over there are many experienced fasters by now.

For headaches you are dehydrated. Drink a salt drink and keep drinking plenty of water. Noromally you get a lot more water in your food and also othe salt in your food keeps your fluids up.

Everyone if you haven’t already found it, read the faq above for how to do this diet. Its 500 calories for women on fast days. TDEE or little less on non-fast days.

You can use my fitness pal if you want to track your calories.

Also i find it helpful to eat on non-fast days in an eating window of about 8 hours. This gives you a 16 hour fast overnight which has healthy benefits.

Also watch the catalyst program called gut reaction about the health benefits of fibre. i bet you know about them. Especially important if you have many other chronic health conditions!!. You can find it on you tube and also eat fast and live longer the main program by MMosley.

Good luck everyone. It may take a few weeks to really get into the swing of it but you will and i must say i love it the more i go on. I do two day consecutive fasts.

Food on fasts days, i find it easier not to eat breakfast until i’m hungry. which is usually lunch and then an early dinner and that’s it for me. I find black tea to be good.

Most of the weight you lose in the early phases is water. The losses will slow down but do not be discouraged. you may just need to tweak things a little as you go along.
