  • hi all,

welcome to all newbies. nice to see the page numbers growing

david – I cant see anyone with your name. try and find me pam jo (picture of two sleeping cats). I agree with Karen. in moderation with guests would be good. if you try too hard you may just cave in and go overboard.

Karen – you sound like you are back on track and doing really well. bet you’re glad to be back to your normal work shift. cant wait to hear your results. really hope the hard work pays off for you

Charmaine – you sound like you are also well on track. good luck to you

ken – as always the steady one of the group. you never seem to falter and keep us all in check!!

doodle – you will find a way that works best for you. I have been doing three small meals but am trying to cut down to two and see how that goes. the joy of this is you can suit yourself as to how many and do the diet whichever way suits your lifestyle the best

come on david – find us all on FB or give us a clue to your picture or whereabouts as I cant find you at all.

to everyone else, good luck and happy fasting

    take care all

Hi lancsken. Thanks for the info. I’ll be sticking with the two meals tomorrow. When it comes to planning for next week I’ll see how much of a pain it is trying to share the 500 between three meals.

Its great your all so friendly and welcoming. I am afraid i do not ‘do’ facebook just a little bit of twitter but not much of that really. Im 48 mum of two grown boys. Getting married later this year whooo hooo !! Really need to fit into a dress and look halfway respectable.

How much are you all aiming to loose or have lost already if you dont mind me asking ?

    hi and welcome twitter,

I don’t have a set figure to lose in mind. it’s a fair few pounds but I am just going to carry on until I feel comfortable in myself. congratulations on the upcoming wedding x

doodle – good luck for tomorrow, hope it goes well for you

david – I was just after something to recognise you by. there were a couple I eventually found with the same name so just wanted something to identify you by. of no matter now as I nicked you off karens friend list. (I think, otherwise I’ve pinched one of her friends!!)

    DONT BLAME U PAM, thks

i thought 60 was the new 40 where “life begins at” thats what my freinds say

Hi twitter I only wanted to lose around half a stone when I started 5:2 in March and managed that OK. I’m not overweight but being very small framed every lb showed up around my middle and I wanted to feel better in my clothes. I dropped a dress size before we went on holiday at the beginning of June, put 5lbs on whilst away and now trying to lose it. My last official weigh in on Friday got me to 2.5 lbs lost so only another 2.5 to go. I lose really slowly though and I think its because I’m almost at my ideal weight but I still plug away at it and I know I’ll get there and be healthier too. I can see me and hubby doing this for life to be honest, he lost 17 lbs for our hol. and is about 5lbs off getting there again so this does work. Its not a quick fix though and you need to be patient or you’ll end up giving up. When’s your wedding by the way?

David, you are only as old as you feel, 50 is still but a bairn! I’m 51 just gone April and I’m never growing up lol!

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a good week 🙂 Still hanging in there, trying to be good on my non-fasting days; allowed myself a Thornton’s Mint Chocolate (47 cal)yesterday and today at work. Mint & chocolate are my sweet weakness (that, and cheesecake!)

Monday’s fasting day was a bit of a challenge; before I started 5:2, I volunteered to help at the school production. Of course, I was asked to sell refreshments! I knew I wouldn’t be able to have tea until after 8 pm, so I went to work prepared. Skipped breakfast, had baby tomatoes and cucumber spears for lunch, then a miso soup sachet around 4. Managed to avoid the temptation of the buns and coffee at interval, then went home to a Weight Watchers lamb moussaka and a few more tomatoes.

Three weeks in, and I’m surprised to find that I’m not ravenously hungry; before, I guess I was just eating because it was ‘time,’ rather than eating because I was hungry. Many days, it’s like I’m doing an unintentional ‘mini-fast,’ as I’m not eating my full allotment of calories (myfitnesspal says I should be eating 1420 / day to lose weight; most of the time, I’m not even eating 1200) because I’m only eating when I’m hungry. If I feel peckish, I’ve been drinking water with lemon until the feeling passes.

Hi Karen Hope you dont mind me asking but its nice to know what everyone wants to achieve etc. etc. My wedding will be in October this year, I am so excited its off the scale. Only a small ‘do’ as second time around but this time it means so much more. Dress already chosen but very easy to have it altered (hopefully this will be required). 2nd fast day and cannot believe how positive I still feel. Only had a couple of hunger pangs which I kept at bay with a glass of water and just had another cup of tea. Going to eat around 7ish so not too late. My OH is really really supporting me which is what is needed. He does not need to loose really although maybe half a stone would not go amiss lol.
I will check in tomorrow 🙂

Hi twitter, don’t mind you asking at all! I’m on my second marriage too BTW, he’s lovely, much better second time around. We’ll have been married 10 years next June and don’t regret a second of it. We only had family and a couple of friends at ours but I smiled all day and everyone had a lively time, just shows its people who make your day special and the one you’re marrying. So you have about 3 months to lose your weight, which, if you follow this as they advise should see you lose a fair bit and I’m sure that dress will need altering a few times before you tie the knot. You sound really positive already and the fast doesn’t seem to be too bad for you today so I’m sure you’ll do fine.
Well let us know how you got on tomorrow, bye for now. 🙂

wow you are all so fantastic ,

Happy Wednesday. I’m seeing some new names, welcome! — Manda, Jones, Doodle, Twitter, Gin, Love and Purple. AND, Hello to all. I’ve been traveling and I’m back this week. Two others from work are on vacation this week, so I walked into a busy office. Not a problem, though. Working out tonight after I check out of here. It’s 3:07pm CST (Central states, USA). We have a national holiday coming up on the 4th of July. Sorry mates, for the reference about celebrating our independence. I will say we are tempted on this holiday with lots of picnic foods, mostly unhealthy. So, some of us will need to monitor our intake. I know I will!

FYI – I’m Dee on Facebook. Jean is my middle name.

Cleaning off my desk now and will go to the gym — after I take advantage of Beauty Brand’s annual July 1/2 price sale of shampoo & conditioner liter bottles. A girl has to do what a girl has to do! Positive thoughts to all. Success on your fast days and KEEP MOVING!

Good evening all. Thanks JeanDee, Karen and Taletha for your kind words and encouragement (and anyone who I’ve missed, soz). Well day two is nearly upon me (why the hell am I still awake!). Plans for meals are the simple muesli, then a piece of Fish Inspirations (115 cals, two pouches of Birdseye Rice Fusions thingies, coming in at 11 cals each, plus 100g each of carrots and broccoli, nom nom. Good night all, and happy fasting day! :-*

Hi doodlemom, I’m awake too and up at just after 6 in the morning( I’ll regret this I know lol). Your menu for tomorrow sounds good. Mines no brekkie (don’t bother with it cos it triggers my appetite), veg soup for lunch and salad for tea with tea and splash of skimmed milk plus water and 2 low cal hot chocs- sorted! I’ve done a mini fast today and nearly 2 hours of walking so hoping for a loss on Friday. Good luck tomorrow ;)xx

Hello JeanDee, nice to meet you and everybody on the thread. I just can’t keep up with it on a daily basis but I hope you all don’t mind me popping in every now and again to say hello!

    Happy fasting to everybody!

I have just finished my second day. After my first day I had a sleepless night due to a massive headache and I am having a sleepless night after my second day to a massive influx of energy ( I have chronic fatigue syndrome so I am loving it!). I hope things settle down so I can fast and then sleep normally!

Good morning all!! Had a good mini fast day. I am not going to work out and see my results this week. Taking on Simcoeluv’s plan to get to my mini goal…then will tone up after reaching a particular weight. Now I will probably end up hurting my knees with all the weight and the workouts.

Hi David…good to hear you. Three days fast…wow…good luck! Karen…did you manage doing a bit of the hula hoop/loop? Ken…happy to host you in India…but I will lose the weight dont get worried 😉 Dee…welcome back from you vacation.

lovelifedance…i know it can be overwhelming to read and respond…do it at your pace…we will be here for you anyway. Doodlemom agree with Karen…you’ve got you menu sorted. My estimates are generous…which is why each fast day gets converted to mini fasts 😀 i keep thinking “this cannot be more than 50 calories” .whereas Myfitnesspal later shows itup as 100!!! Who knew a small square of chocolate is so high in calories…

Hello my world wide family of fellow 5:2 ers 🙂
I just wanna start by saying you are all brilliant , and it is a pleasure to know every single one of you , there soppy bit done lol

lovelife = as Charmaine as said , dont worry about not keeping up we are all here anytime at all you just do your thing hun and we will help all we can 🙂

Charmaine = I know i would have a fantastic time if i came to India, and you would take good care of me , i also know you WILL loose what u wish to loose , you cant really fail on here 🙂 , so for now i will stay here where i can see my 2 little granddaughters , But hey no slacking ok ha ha ha

Doodle = you are so very well organized thats a nice sounding menu , do you fancy a trip to Rochdale to help me too lol 🙂

Have a great fast day to day everyone , I will ,
May the Calorie force be with us all

P.S. I have still not had a reply from David on FB

twitter fr norwich if you want to set a plan/target for lbs of your waistline look at charmaines challenge! and rise to it- I am trying it this week and will weigh in (ah, ah ah!) on SATURDAYso each day this wek since weds I have and WILL fast and I am biking over 3/4 hr each day!

this is it: for 1 month
. 4:3 fasting – 500 calories. So Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
    2. HIIT Monday to Friday. Saturday – maybe some cardio – walk, Zumba
    3. Water – as much as I can every day!

ken thks I will reply but when I can no worries

Hi all. Late checking in today pressure of work lol. I have set myself an interim target of 1 stone to loose, but do not want to commit to a time frame but the sooner the better. I have taken waist and hip measurements also. Yesterday was second fast day for me and up until 6pm when I walked in from work all was good, but then the hunger pangs set in big time BUT i did not give in. Made a cup of tea with skinny milk (milk counted as minimal calorie intake) but waited another hour until my small low calorie salad. Total calories for the day 502 (whoops !!)
Thursday is ‘feast’ day, well within reason of course and so far all is well. I plan to weigh in tomorrow morning, prior to weekend as this may be a challenge as I am sure it is to many. Thanks for all your encouragement 🙂

Thanks Karen lovely to make a new friend 🙂

Evening guys, late check in for me too, busy morning. Didn’t manage hula hooping yesterday Charmaine but did nearly 2 hours of walking so that kind of made up for it.
Yes twitter it is nice to make new friends and I think you are setting yourself achievable targets, bit by bit is good.
Well I’ve just had my humoungous tea of ham salad, veg soup for lunch and going to take Harvey out in a little while. Hoping for a wee loss from last week tomorrow1. I’ve also decided that seeing as how I managed to not eat till almost 6pm yesterday and saved my cals for tea (apart from what I drank) I might try it again on Saturday. I came well under TDEE and I actually didn’t feel hungry all day. I was hungrier today and had had soup for lunch! Eating triggers my appetite so not doing it till later in the day should work OK and cut cals too (in theory anyway). I’ll let you all know how I go. Well better take the hound out! Xx

Hi everyone , well i have come in at 547 cals for the day so i am well pleased with myself for the effort. I too weigh in tomoz morning so i hope to have lost another lb fingers crossed ha ha

Twitter = you have got off to the perfect start hun . well done you , i have lost 1st 1 lb in 12 weeks , but as Karen will tell u it is easier for a bloke than a lady ,
Bit like childbirth you girls get all the hard stuff and us blokes get it too soft . see i am on your side ladies xx
ok i will let u all know how i get on in the morning bye for now x

Hello Lancsken,, howdy neighbour! I work in Bury, only a stones throw from sunny Rochdale,, haha! I am going to try and log on each evening for a quick catch up as the posts are so lovely (cost the people posting are lovely) and I need to feel enveloped in my 5:2 family so when the going gets tough I can come on here and cry! Lol!
Hope everybody has had a good day!

Aww thanks love life dance, hopefully you won’t need to come on here and cry ;).

Evening all and thanks Taletha for your kind words. Today has been more of a struggle than Monday. I put it down to my brekkie choice being awful! The simple muesli sounded good on paper, but it was very bland and tasteless. I think when you’re only having two meals you have to be satisfied. Anyhoo, you live and learn. I still got through the day. It’s weigh and measure day on Sunday so fingers crossed.

Good luck today to my friends in the USA! Trying to eat healthy stuff on the 4th of July can be tricky; stay strong!

Happy Independence day to our friends in the States and we are all rooting for you to stay strong with all those delicious foodie temptations about!

I managed to get the half lb I put on last week off again, a little disappointed it wasn’t more but then I did go over yesterday with being so starving, I’ve not struggled like that since I started this way back in March. Drawing a line under it now though and moving on and hoping to shed a little more next week – only 2 lbs till goal weight, which doesn’t seem alot to most people but for me it takes ages to lose so I’ll be here plugging away for weeks no doubt!

Today I’m just sticking to veg soup for lunch because I’m going out for a meal with a friend this evening and there’ll be chips and wine etc etc then we’re finishing off the evening with a bottle at my house. Tomorrow I’m aiming for just fluids again until evening and hope I keep the cals down.

Well better go and finish getting ready and yay the weekend is looming again! x

Morning all. Just checking in with progress and ……….. stunned 5.5lbs in a week !! I am truly shocked. I did know that the first week I would loose relatively easily but even so I did not even see that happening.
This may be crazy but I am trying for a third fast day today so I can really relax over the weekend and not worry too much about what I am eating but I really will be mindful and not go overboard as I would normally be so tempted to do and have done in the past.
Does anyone else just not feel hungry ? even yesterday when I was not fasting I still felt hardly any hunger pangs and none so far yet today ? I am drinking loads more than I would usually especially water when I had always avoided in the past (naughty I know).
Definately have that Friday feeling even though fasting x

    Hello to all 🙂
Happy Independence day to all of you in America, have a fantastic day all of you , and bugger the 5:2 lol , serious though this is the biggest day in your year so just go and enjoy it ,

Well today i lost just half a pound (same as Karen) but i will take that anyday its better than a gain . 🙂

Lovelife = Bury well we are next door nieghbours then lol , send me a friend request on facebook ( kenneth livesey) i am the one with the Rochdale AFC footy shirt on . or send me a text on 07988288313 and we can get each other on ” Whatsapp ”
I know exactly what you mean when you say “feel enveloped” cos i feel the same about this thread too , its a nice feeling to have all these lovely ppl backing you up and giving some fantastic advice and tips ,

Doodle mum = am i right in thinking there are a lot of currents and raisens in museli ?? cos i think there are a lot of calories in those fruits , I know someone will be able to correct me if i am wrong , thats why i stay away from them on a fast day . just a thought and i hope it helps hun .

Karen = do not feel sad hun , you are one of our main posters , you encourage and inspire us . you are simly fantastic ok . half a pound is good cos i did it too ha ha 🙂 . you enjoy tonight

Twitter = WOWWWW get in there girl x amazing , you obviously know it wont be that amount everyweek , but when it happens and you do loose so much just enjoy it hun , I see you use the word “mindful ” in your post . well i practise MINDFULLNESS all the time and find it really does help with day to day things ,

ok people i have gone on long enough , hope you all have a great day and remember
the Calorie force is with us all
    love ken x

Hi Lancsken. You are right, me duck, that museli contains nuts and raisins. However, this version was from the Fast Diet book I bought to read in prep for starting. There’s a few recipes in the back. This version of simple muesli was just oats, grated apple and skimmed milt (although I use soya milk). Should’ve known what was coming after having to wipe myself down when I had a shower of apple juice as I was grating it. This then proceeded to turn quickly into a kind of brown mush! If I could stand to have it again I might choose a sharper apple like Granny Smith’s and add a wee sprinkle of cinnamon. Having said that, I’ll only have this again if I feel I need to do penance after having a big pig-out!

Hi Twitter22. What an amazing result! I hope my weigh and measure day on Sunday yields such results. I’ve been amazed as well at how un-hungry I’ve felt at times. It’s made me realise that I’ve been eating far too much over the past few years. I’m planning on doing 4:3 but only as a way of shocking my body if I start to plateau.

Wow, there are some great stories and wonderful support on here! This the end of my first week on 5:2 having fasted on Tuesday and Thursday. I lost 1.1kg and very pleased with the result. I have found that Wednesday and today, non-fast days, I felt full on smaller meals. I’m choosing healthy, satisfying breakfasts that last to a latish lunch of 1-1.30. I’m going to track calories on non-fast days, although not too fanatically, so I don’t undo the hard work from FDs as well. It is only early days, but I have been pleasantly surprised by how easy my first two FDs were. I hope that, and the motivation continues. Cheers, Jo

is 1kg about 5lbs jojo? as you go on with 5 2 jojoh, YOUR APETITE WILL GET LESS! AND YOU WONT HAVE TO THINK ABOUT YOUR DIET! or be tempted by binging- do you know what glyceamic/index is?

gin ga y dont u tell us over here-india uk -what stuff you traditionally eat on 4th july? is it like thanksgiving or muc bigger?

    a kilo is 2.2lbs david

    hi jojo,

well done on your loss and welcome. we are a nice chatty bunch on here and have la dolce (charmaine) to thank for the thread

doodle – good luck for sunday. i’m sure there must a few things preferable to muesli. i have tried a few bits here and there and finally found the items i like to have on fast days, we live and learn as they say

twitter – wow well done you. what a fantastic result. i think you will be our slimmer of the week!! ***** five gold stars for you 🙂
