  • JeanDee, just noticed your post about taffy – we call it toffee over here and I love it! We have a shop in the UK that makes amazing toffee, it’s called Thorntons and I’m sure everyone living here would agree it’s the best tasting toffee ever. I could eat a whole box then probably end up toothless lol!

    Morning all,

After yesterdays horrendous weather today looks more promising….a bit like my fast yesterday (it went horribly wrong when my oldest son came home with a bottle of wine and goodies to celebrate his promotion at work) but today is looking better!! 2lbs up today but hoping to get rid of that with a good day today and friday.

Good to hear everyone is doing well.

Jeandee, your posts are brilliant, really uplifting and positive. Keep em coming!

Charmaine, the pre weighing may well be the way forward, its suprising how easy it is to go over.

Ken, Who’s your favourite on BGT (sorry a bit off topic but love it) πŸ™‚

Karen, oh I am so jealous!! I love Morocco, its beautiful and the culture is amazing, you are right we are so lucky to be able to visit such wonderful places with a relatively short flight. Have a wonderful time x

Donagh, welcome and keep popping in…these guys keep me going and it helps soo much.

I am sure I have missed some of you but I hope you all have a lovely day πŸ™‚ xxx

Ha ha I’m still in bed, with a cup of tea and Chubby-Wubb (my gorgeous black and white cat, he’s purring magnificently πŸ™‚

Hi Donagh, I’m fairly new to this thread too, though they all seem like old friends already. How did your first fast day go?

Karen any room in that suitcase, Morocco sounds amazing. I have got an adventure in August; my daughter if off to Spain for a week with her school, so me and my son are off to visit a friend in Finland. Am very excited to see my friend on her home territory and see something of a brand new country πŸ™‚

Charmaine don’t be so hard on yourself it will move eventually. Weighing out your portions is a bit of a phaff but might well do the trick. If you can bear it don’t way yourself so often too, our weight fluctuates quite a bit naturally (especially us girls with our time of the month!), try it if you can.

Phew made it through yesterday’s fast by the skin of my teeth, though a stray slice of ham did jump out of the fridge and of course I rescued it by eating it!!! Rest day today and then fasting again tomorrow.

Good luck to any of you fasting today.

    x

OOo forgot to say hello to Jean Dee – hello πŸ™‚

And God will it ever stop raining!!! It’s been raining in the South East of England for four consecutive days now!! Bah!!

Morning Gail, never been to Finland, sounds very different and I’ll bet you have a lovely time with your friend. Aww what a cute name for a cat – I’m imagining Chubby-wubb to be a big fluffy cute cat! My second fast of the week went slightly awry too only it was a couple spoonfuls of nutella and some hummous/dips that kind of fell into my mouth that did it but overall not too bad, more a semi fast really. Just had toast and 2 cookies today (I know the cookies are a bit naughty but why the heck not, I deserve them lol.
Just came back from town for waxing eyelash tinting etc etc and to pick up a dress for Morocco that I had taken up (I needed to be about a foot taller and wasnt going to happen! Nails done on Saturday then packing (hubby is brilliant at that so I just lay my stuff on the spare bed and as if by magic it finds its way into the case! :). If its any consolation its poured down all morning here and I’ve already had 2 soakings so far,bah indeed!:(

    Ken

Hi Hilly66 and good evening all.
Day 1 fast went good yesterday so I did my day 2 fast today! Two poached eggs for breakfast and one slice of toast. Nibbled 3uncooked asparagus dipped in humus an hour ago which will see me through to evening meal. I’m not great at counting calories. Can u make any suggestions on how I can improve counting calories and any good sources of <600 cal menu ideas would be great. Ur a grat bunch! Thank you for being so welcoming.

I’m guessing you are male Donagh and that’s why you are fasting up to 600 calories? Have you tried myfitnesspal for counting cals? You can download to your phone, tablet or register online and it counts the calories of lots of different foods, really good when you get the hang of it and keeps you on track.
As for menus – homemade veg soups, eggs done different ways, salad with prawns, ham, cottage cheese, chicken breast and if you’re stuck a weight watcher meal is fairly low cal. Don’t forget if you use milk in tea/coffee you need to count the calories too. Bovril, fruit teas and water will stave off hunger pangs and they are no cal or low cal. Some people skip breakfast then have lunch and tea and some save all their cals for a good evening meal, its entirely up to you. Most people say its best to avoid carbs and stick to protein, veg and salad and that’s what I do but experiment yourself. Are you doing the 2 fasts back to back? Quite hard to do I struggle with them by day 2. If you find its too hard try 2 separate days like Mon and Thurs, giving your body a break in between.

Well hope that helps a little, good luck.
    Karen

Greetings future slim people – My lunch time is over, but I popped in to say hello.

Karen, my fast went well, thank you. I’m a simpleton. This may sound mechanical, but I have a fasting routine I try not to deviate from. Limits temptations and choices and keeps me from over-thinking my fast. About the toffee candy, if I want to see my boss, I’ll place toffee in the candy dish. He can sniff it out from across the hall. My husband is a marketing / business major and he routinely places a candy dish on the corner of his office desk. We both meet a lot of people that way. We may get more posters if I keep feeding people candy! So sorry for the downpour of rain. I understand your climate seldom gets below freezing but you get a lot of rain.

Paradise, how lovely your son celebrated his success with you. I wish him favor and many more celebrations ahead. You must be a loving mom! Hope today’s and Friday’s fasts yield better results.

Donagh, A hearty welcome! Headaches can be common at first. Make sure you drink plenty of water and throw in a little caffeine now and again to help curb the headaches. This is not doctor’s orders, just something I learned from experimenting. I had an awful time knowing what foods to end a fast with — had some digestion problems because of it, so know this is your personal experiment and it may take a while. Best wishes and stay with it. Keep joining us.

AmyC, thank you for your kind comments. I’ve been on a gratitude journey for a handful of years now and I believe my heart and mind are finally aligned! It’s a joy for me to extend positive energy. I don’t know anyone who can flourish in negative energy. I read your link for the new book and that was terrific. As someone posted, I haven’t been able to purchase the book yet in America. It appears the theme is accountability. This has been a criticism I’ve read about 5:2 plan in articles. Hopefully this new book will curtail some of those comments. Thank you

Charmaine, absolutely we will continue with our HITS and 4:3’s when we can. I am sore from my intensity workout last night. I worked faster and went a mile longer in my total workout than I usually do and I’m feeling it today. The kind of pain where I try not to grunt when I lift arms over the head or bend down. Apparently I challenged my muscles. My waist seems to be the last area of my body benefitting from the workouts. Maybe this is common.

Ken, David, Hilly (Gail), Jip, flower power and 3 wishes — I trust you are having a prosperous day. I’ll check in again at the end of this week (Lord willing and if the creek doesn’t rise.) Okay, that’s a bit of cowboy jargon.

    good evening all
Karen that was excellent advice you gave to Donagh , you said everything i would have said πŸ™‚

Donagh the only thing i can add is the fact i find it easier to do my fast days with a gap inbetween i like quite a few of us tend to do Monday & Thursday , I weigh in each friday . hope that is of use

Hope you are all doing good today , everyone that is fasting , be brave , may the calorie force be with you all πŸ™‚

will try and check in again before bed time ta ta for now x

    Hi all.

afternoon jean, doing well. Obviously in not doing 5:2 diet anymore but eating healthy and doing slimfast every other day. Hopefully it works lol.

hi Karen, were going to the isle if Wight. Its me, husband, my daughter Evie and my mum. Going for week. X im keeping everything crossed to lolx really wanna lose something before i go away in 9 days yay x

Well, this week has been harder for me. My son (studying Russian and Politics) shared his “Finals Cold” with my husband and myself and I have been coughing and finding it hard to rest. I was able to get into my acupuncturist and now 12 hours later I am amazingly better. Sore throat gone, cough almost gone, and the aching bones all gone. I tell you, the man is a miracle worker. I still fasted but I know I didn’t lose any weight. I think my body was busy fighting the cold instead. However, that is why I don’t weigh myself very often. I won’t weigh again until next week. I have found that I stay at a weight a long time and then lose a bunch at once. So better not to look too often and get discouraged.

I find it easier to fast if I really plan everything out in advance. All the food on hand that I need, all the menus etc. If I don’t plan I find myself dragging home after my typical 12 hour work days (yeah it sucks) and eating Turkey Jerky (80 calories in 1 oz.). And I fall upon that pathetic meal like a starving dog.

My favorite meal so far for fasting day is white fish with a black bean/grapefruit salsa. That is MAJOR tasty.
Recipe here for you guys – note everything here is to taste – so experiment:
Take 2 white fish fillets – around 100-200 calories each in size
Take 1 big grapefruit or 2 small grapefruit- white or red
Zest the grapefruit (grate off the colored peel – not the white part) and cut in half.
Juice 1/2 a grapefruit over the raw fish and sprinkle in 1/2 tsp powered cumin and salt and ground black pepper to taste. Let marinate for 30 minutes (NO LONGER!)
In a bowl mix the grapefruit zest, 1/2 can drained and rinsed black beans, 2 tablespoons lime juice, 1 clove minced garlic, 1/4 minced red onion, 1/2 to 1 jalapeno pepper diced – no seeds(hotness of pepper to taste), 1/4 cup diced cilantro, 1/2 cup diced red tomatoes (canned is fine/drained), and the rest of the grapefruit sections cut up small (take the membrane off). Add any of the juice of the grapefruit that is the result of you trying to cut the sections out. Add some salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Let the salsa rest until ready to serve – this can be made up to a day in advance.
Saute the fish and marinade a few short minutes until tender and serve with the salsa on top. Remove fish from pan when cooked and then reduce the marinade until thick. Serve with the salsa on top.
The salsa can be made less hot with less jalapeno if you prefer. Or you can opt for other hotter peppers if that’s your preference. Wear gloves or a plastic bag over your fingers and hands when cutting up the pepper. I typically make twice the recipe and have salsa left over for the next night’s dinner – it’s great on salad greens.

I think we should eat GREAT food on our fasting days and all the time – not just blah “diet” stuff. We should layer the flavors and get the maximum out of the food. I am now looking to experiment at roasting the grapefruit before making the salsa and also roasting the garlic until soft. I also buy fire-roasted diced tomatoes in a can because the flavor adds so much.

The skies here are an arch of brilliant blue with some little white clouds at the edges of the horizons. May you all see sunshine soon.

Thank you all yet again for your support. Have completed my second day fast! Fewer headaches but I have been drinking lots of water and tea. Can’t wait to have a few treats over the next few days but will incorporate some sensible options. Here’s the amazing thing: I actually eat quite well during the day times and have a sensible and fairly balanced diet. My problem for the last year is that I awake hungry during the night – every night. This leads me to the kitchen and fridge and cupboards snacking on silly foods that I would just never eat during daytime – chocolate and lots of it, crisps – perhaps 2 bags, diluted juice and much more that I’m way to embarrassed to share. The last two nights have been the first in almost a year that I haven’t eaten during nighttime – a real triumph for me, almost miraculous. Whilst I plan to continue with the 5:2, not eating during nighttime will make a big difference in itself. Someone I work with has lost 3stone on the 5:2 without too much trouble. I just want to shift a stone so it should be manageable. Not planning to weigh myself until Monday morning. Current weight 13stone 6, BMI 27 waist 40 inch around tummy/belly button. Let me know if I should be measuring/monitoring anything else. Let’s see what Monday brings.
    Goodnight all.

Karen, thank you for menu suggestions and we’ll spotted, I’m male and Irish.

    Hello my dear fasting family….

Going to take advice from you all and will weigh less frquently or at least annouce it here less frequently πŸ™‚

Ken…dress has beeb tried and kept until a 7 June wedding. Fingers crossed.

Karen…all spruced up and ready for the vaca? Im off to the salon today πŸ˜‰

3wishes…recipe sound delish!!!! Need to see how I cam substitute with what we get here in India. Hope you call feel better soon.

Donagh…love the Irish accent…have few colleagues from Ireland…and I love my conference calla with them πŸ™‚ very friendly all of you are.

Jean…you are doing a spendid job of spreading positive energy….i did not do my HIIT yest. So cant wait to fit in a double dose today.

David…you will see an awesome loss when you weigh in in June…you will be our star loser….that did not sound right πŸ™‚ but you know what i mean…!!!

Paradise…thank you for the advice…pre weighing and pre measuring is what I am going to try for sure!!

Flowerpower…let me know how slim fast works…cant wait to hear results of you first weigh in…:)

Hilly…waiting to hear updats from you!! And JIP Too!!!

Morning guys from a cloudy, drizzy Darlington.

3 wishes, thank you for that recipe, sounds lovely and I plan my meals in advance on a fast day too, usually sticking to the same things because it doesn’t take too much thinking about.

Charmaine, I know you’re like me and weigh every day to keep yourself on track so do what works for you and if announcing it every week works better go with that. Yes I got my waxing, eyelash tinting done yesterday, got my hair done week and a half ago and getting my nails done on Saturday morning! I love getting pampered and the ladies in the salon I go to always make me laugh. I’ve got to decide what colour nail varnish to have (too much choice lol) and then I’m sorted!

Donagh, lovely Irish name (and I love an Irish accent too where in Ireland are you from), how do you pronounce that? My hubby only needed to lose a stone too and he managed it in 8 weeks (in the end he’s lost 16 lbs) going from a 36 inch jean to a 32-34 inch! He’s delighted and hasn’t been this weight for years. He’s got a large frame and his BMI was 29.8 and he’s gone down to 26. By all the charts this still puts him in the slightly overweight category but he really doesn’t need to lose any more or he’ll start to look too thin so he’s just maintaining now. He actually found it much easier to lose weight than me, probably because he’s a bloke and I only wanted to lose about 6 or 7 lbs. After not losing anything at all in his first week he then lost 5lbs in the second and 2 lbs consistently every week after that so it’s very doable.

Well better go and finish getting ready for work – only today and tomorrow then freedom for 2 whole weeks, yay!:-)
    x

Hi everyone Gail here (yes Ken Hilly is Gail :-))

I’m fasting today but feeling a bit miserable today, my two have gone off with their Dad, the house is horribly quiet and much too much time to think!!

When I’m at work I plan my whole week foodwise so that when I go shopping I only buy what we need, it works most of the time. Today I’m going to choose something from the cook book and then pop out later for the ingredients – Ken I might actually try the skinny rice tonight!!! Or maybe I will try your recipe 3Wishes x

Karen you must be looking amazing with all that preparation for your holiday; is always hard choosing which colour (hey shame on this UK forum flagging my spelling of colour!!!) nails to have is always tricky, I might treat myself to nails before my Finland holiday – something exciting thought, we’re going to visit the beautiful town on Tallin (Estonia) while we’re there!!!

Charmaine how is your day going? How far ahead of the UK is India?

    Finally it’s stopped raining πŸ™‚

    Hi folks ,

Gail tell us a bit more about “skinny rice ” again will you please , it sounds facinating πŸ™‚ thanx

my day is doing ok i had my usual soft boiled egg today i had 1/2 slice of ww brown danish (24 cals) grand total of 98 cals
Lunch at around 2pm (about another hour) will be a mix of salad ( iceburg ,cucumber ,spring onion ,tomatos , and beetroot total 140 cals this will leave me with plenty for my tea about 7pm

I am on facebook you can find me under Kenneth Livesey send a freind request and i will reply
ok stick with it Gail your doing great πŸ™‚

Have been a bad girl today. Had my lamb biryani!!! And have a birthday party to go to now.

Gail, India is around 4.5 hours ahead of UK now…waiting to hear about skinny rice…since that is my weakness πŸ™‚

    Ken…sure! June 7th πŸ˜‰

NOTE TO Everyone: i am off on my road trip early tomorrow morning…may not have great internet access…but will try to catch up with you all. Miss me!!

    Take care all…

    Evening everyone,

have had a good fast day, can’t believe I made it through til 4.45 without a thing besides my cuppa! I could have survived longer but when I saw the recipe I had decided to cook takes 3 hours I thought I better have something!!

I’m cooking Hot Paprika Goulash, p31 in the cook book or i can give details for anyone who’s not got the book. It’s 275 calories per portion and smells (after an hour and a half) divine – only 1 more hour to go. Am going to have it with some cabbage and the slim rice!!!

The slim rice is 7 calories per 100g serving – the packet contains 200g. I don’t know what it tastes like yet, will get back to you on that one. It’s very high in fibre and is made from something called Konjac flour (Konjac is apparently a vegetable root grown in Asia. The blurb says it contains something called Gluccomannan which helps us to stay full for longer!!

Ken I sent you a friend on FB, well there were 2 Kenneths, so I guess one must be you x

Charmaine where are you off to on your road trip – I guess you may have gone off to bed by now – hope you have a good time x

    Gail

PS I’m off for a jog in a mo – have been doing Couch to 5K, I use a little app on my phone and the lady kindly says run, walk etc!! Is hard work as it’s quite hilly where I live!!

I also use Mapmyfitness to record my runs, walks, lol and on one occasion running up and down the stairs!! If you use MyfitnessPal the two link together, so it shows your exercise/intake on both.

Right I’ll be quiet now πŸ™‚

    x

Hi all hope everyone OK. Tired today and hungry but going to keep going.
Impressed you lasted until tea time Gail, good on you, let us know how you new recipe is. I’m on Facebook too if you want to send me a request too, I’m Karen Creegan (prob only one of me lol). It’ll be nice to see who we’re talking to! I know what you mean about the house being quiet when the kids go to their Dada. My ex lives in Cumbria, son lives with him and when my youngest was on holiday she usually went to stop there for a few days and I missed her loads. She 20 this year and it would be nice to have a quiet house nowadays lol. Me and Ron (2nd hubby) are going away on our own for the first time since our honeymoon 9 years ago, it’ll be nice just the 2 of us!

Have a nice trip Charmaine don’t worry about being naughty you are now officially on holiday so its allowed!

How are you doing Ken? OK I hope. Hope Liz’s mum is OK.

Well going to get a shower watch a bit of telly and get an early night before my last day at work for 2 weeks. 4 sleeps until Morocco (not that I’m counting)!

Well I have now eaten the Hot Paprika Goulash and the slim rice!! The smell of the Goulash when I got back from my run was heavenly mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Just got back in the nick of time, a wee bit later and it may have been burnt! It was delicious and I have 3 more servings to put aside for other fasting days. Would recommend it, so long as you have the time to let it slowly cook.

Slim rice, it comes in a kind of sachet and inside that is a sealed pack. It’s in a liquid, which smells vaguely fishy!! You then have to rinse it to wash away the starchiness (note to anyone that decides to try it, use a sieve not a collander, I lost some down the sink!!). It looks a bit like white spaghetti chopped into little pieces. You have to warm it up and then add to your favourite sauce – have to say it went really well with the Goulash though what I really fancied was mash potato!! I had a generous serving of cabbage and felt very contented afterwards. Total calories for the meal was 275 for the Goulash, 11 for the slim rice and about 25 for the cabbage. Not bad at all.

Karen have sent you a friend request πŸ™‚ I’m Gail Griffiths if anyone wants to add me, there may well be quite a few as Griffiths is quite a common surname – but I am in Banstead, that should narrow it a down a bit.

First time away on your own for 9 years how romantic no wonder you can’t wait πŸ™‚

    x

Morning Guys, how is everyone? I knocked of half a lb from last week so happy with that this week, just got to keep good this weekend and I’ll head off to Morocco a fair bit slimmer and a size smaller than 12 weeks ago when I started this! It’s more than I could have hoped for because before 5:2 I just couldn’t have dreamed of this weight again.

It’s lovely to ‘meet’ you on Facebook Gail, your little family look lovely. The Goulash pic looked amazing, I love that kind of food so I may be asking you for the recipe when I return. It is kind of a romantic break me and Ron are having because our 9th wedding anniversary is 10th June while we’re away, we did go on 2 weekend breaks on our own last year but this is the first foreign one since our honeymoon and we’re both ready now to concentrate a bit more on ourselves since our kids are all grown ups now! When do you weigh in and how much more do you want to lose (you maybe mentioned but I forgot)? I think if I can stay this weight for good now I’ll be more than happy, I know I’ll put some back on when I go away because holidays are for enjoying yourself but I’m straight back on 5:2 the Monday after I return.

Well better finish getting ready for my last day at work (I just know it’ll drag today and I’ll be clock watching for 4.30), hope everyone has a great day and weigh in’s go well this morning.
    xx

Good Morning everyone from a quite pleasant morning in deepest Rochdale,
at my wiegh in i have lost another 1 1/2 lb , brings me to 12st 7 1/2 lb and another 1/2 inch off my waist now at 39″ so as you might guess i am delighted with that result πŸ™‚
I know i am not at my target yet, but when i do get there and i go on maintainance (spelt wrong I think ) lol , anyway I will stay on this thread as I have met all of you lovely people and TBH i cant see me not being in touch with you all, does anyone else feel the same as I do

Gail , i will try your recipe as soon as you post it , and i cant wait to get hold of the skinny rice , whereabouts do you buy it from and is there a trade name on the packet ? I can see me getting loads of it ha ha πŸ™‚

Karen , I love your new profile picture on FB, a romantic holiday with Ron , now i know why your so excited , it will be fabulous for you both , oh how many sleeps have you got left , not that your counting lol πŸ™‚

Charmaine , Yes as Karen quite rightly says , you are officially on Holiday so go right ahead and be naughty, x πŸ™‚ You have worked so hard at 5:2 and 4:3 you deserve your time out

ok , Jean ,JIP ,David , flowerpower, Donagh , 3 wishes ,Paradise , and if i have left anyone off Im sorry , let us know how you are all doing

I have never waited so long for my breakfast after a fast day , but TBH i dont feel that hungry , so i think i will just have another cup of tea ,

Liz’s mother is making a slow recovery , she remains in hospital but has started to try and talk again
I will pop on later to see what you are all up to
If you are fasting today then have a great day and may the calorie force be with us all

oh its weekend , awww where are you all πŸ™‚

Hah, it’s night where I am now. We had major rain storms move through rapidly and potential flooding but all quiet now. My son home from college was just awarded an internship with a global micro-loan funding group for the summer and we went out for lunch to celebrate at his most favorite restaurant in town. He got the job because of his Russian Area studies major and language skills. I am so proud of him. One of the owners of the restaurant was a sous chef to Jamie Oliver and they carry some English dishes so I shared a sticky toffee pudding with my son. Way too delish to resist. However my main dish was a light portion of grilled chicken with harissa, yogurt sauce and couscous with almonds and raisins. What a treat.

Lancsken – I hope you and Liz stay strong through this difficult time. All my best wishes for Liz’s mother. There is a book called “My Stoke of Insight” that might give you more information – written by a brain neurologist who had a stroke herself and what she experienced during the recovery.

I hope you all have a great weekend. And enjoy that trip to Morroco Karen!!!

Morning everyone and sorry for not replying Ken, Ron and I had a wine evening whilst watching a movie and we found the original Eat, Fast, Live Longer programme by Michael Mosley on BBC Iplayer about how the 5:2 diet was started – really interesting, even Ron was interested!

Well done on your 1.5 loss and a smaller waist, this really works doesn’t it. Ron’s lost a bit more, now down by 17 lbs – his theory is that he’ll have less to lose to get back to what he wants when he comes back from holiday! It’s definitely easier for blokes I reckon, not at all fair! Glad Liz’s mums improving a bit, like I mentioned, my dad didn’t speak at all for days, can’t remember the first 48 hours and was in hospital for 7 weeks learning to walk and talk again. He’s still quite disabled and his speech is bad but we can understand him so that’s the main thing. I read loads on strokes and if her speech is affected I’m guessing it’s a left sided stroke affecting the right side of her body and speech? My dad had a massive left sided stroke and that’s where the speech centre is in your brain so he has problems with speech and weakness down his right side. He does his best with what he’s got and he’s still with us and we’re all grateful for that.

3 wishes, well done to your son, I can tell you’re so proud of him, I would be too if he were mine. Sticky toffee pudding is amazing, one of my favourites and you had to share it! I’m so looking forward to Morocco – just got my nails booked in this morning then hubby is going to pack and shooting off on Monday morning. We fly out at 3.55pm, it only takes around 3.5 hours to get there and we head home on the 12th, back early morning of the 13th. I know we’ll escape this awful weather we’ve had (the usual UK rain rain rain), last time I looked the temps were around 95 degrees!

Well better go for now, Harveys due his walk. I’ll check in later x

Good morning everyone , it is sunshining in Rochdale , wowwww see miricles do happen ha ha πŸ™‚
Thank you 3 wishes and Karen for your thoughts and support, Yes it is a left sided stroke , she had one 2 years ago so we went through it all then , fortunatley she has a large family over in Northern Ireland and they are all fantastic with her,

I can also tell you are delighted with your son’s achievments 3 wishes , I know how i felt when my eldest graduated from Uni πŸ™‚

Karen is that programme available to watch on I player through my PC if it is can you send us the details of when it was etc thanks πŸ™‚

ok I need to pop into town now to get this new htc500 of mine sorted out
hope you all have a great day and may the calorie force be with you all πŸ™‚

Evening guys. Just go home from having a meal out complete with pudding – far too full so Ron and I have decided to eat quite lightly tomorrow. It’ll be the last day we cut back before we go away so best make the most of it!

OK Ken so Ron downloaded BBC IPlayer onto my tablet (I guess you can do that with your PC too then searched for the program me Eat, Fast and Live Longer. It was an Horizon programme about an hour long and so interesting. For the health effects alone this 5:2 diet is amazing, the weight loss is just a welcomed side effect. I recommend you watch the programme its really interesting. Did you get your new phone sorted out? Keeping my fingers crossed for Liz’s mum, sounds like shes improving a wee bit and its good that she’s got a large family to visit her and help. There’s only me and my brother and to be honest he doesnt do much to help them, most of it is left up to me and Ron which is a bit unfair really.

Well its all quiet around here now, just Ron, me and Harvey, Becky’s in Workington visiting her dad for a few days so we’re starting to get into slight holiday mode now – only 3 sleeps until we go now lol!

    X

Morning everyone, I just looked at my post from last night and I meant 2 sleeps not 3 lol!

Sun’s shining up here in Darlo so I’ll be heading out to the park with Harvey shortly then it’s a busy day for us. Packing, cleaning and tidying the house etc and still got dog walking to do too. I’m still full from last nights feast so will probably not eat much this morning and just having an omelette and salad for tea today. I’m excited but a bit stressed this weekend, which is normal for me just before I go on holiday because I start worrying that I’ve got everything. As soon as I’ve checked in at the airport I’ll be fine – my holiday will have started and then bring on the glass of red wine! I’m certainly not fasting whilst I’m away but will be trying to eat carefully, I usually have a small breakfast, maybe bread, cheese and some local meat, fruit (like a continental breakfast really) then loads of salad, fish or meat for lunch then for evening meal I usually avoid too many carbs and just stick to chicken, fish, meat and veg, maybe a little rice or potatoes so I’m hoping if I don’t go mad and overindulge I shouldn’t put too much on. My way of thinking is that if it goes on fast it should come off fast too because alot of it will be water weight anyway, fingers crossed. I’m also going to try and swim a few lengths every day to keep my fitness up, which will probably help a bit too. Wish me luck guys.

Well I’ll check in later to see how you all are, have a good one. x

    Good morning everyone ,
Yes Good luck Karen ,you and Ron just go and flippin enjoy yourselves have a great time , I will look at that programme over the next couple of days it does sound good,

Greetings. I’m getting ready to leave work [3:20pm CST USA.] It’s gym afternoon on a beautiful day; sunshine, light breeze and 81 degrees. Busy work day as office mate is missing in action. I just had a nice chat with instructor who returned from holiday in London, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Delightful report. It reminded me to check in with all of you.

Funny thing, I’m laughing to myself as this song by Joe Cocker, 70’s album [Noel Coward gets writing credits], is running through my mind — “Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.” I understand from watching a TV documentary that Churchill and Roosevelt both loved this song and got in a tiff the evening before signing Atlantic Charter. The tiff was over correct lyrics to this song they both loved.

I broke a cardinal rule on fast day — I grabbed a dark chocolate square from my guest candy dish. Maybe the chocolate square made that song pop into my skull. Possible.

After a quick read through your posts, it appears you are running 5K’s, enjoying holidays, fasting, going to church, figuring out technology, walking Harvey [he is a dog, right?], wearing smaller trousers [kudos to Ken], meeting on Facebook, raising fabulous children, caring for loved ones, sharing recipes and fasting.

Yesterday, three people from my church congregation told me it looked like I shed a few pounds. Wearing a smaller size from neck to ankles and enjoying it. Happy dance.

What a wonderful group of strangers you are. I’m sending positive energy your way. Will check in several times this week. Keep smiling and keep moving. Jean

    hi all,

I’m just starting out on the 5:2 and really got into reading your posts. you all sound lovely and friendly.

ken – you are not too far from me. I live in blackpool so just down the road!!

I was wondering whether you would have any objection to another “groupie” joining in??

take care and have a lovely day x

    Hi and welcome taletha:

The way you do 5:2 is go to bed, get up, eat 500/600 calories during your waking hours, go to bed, get up and eat β€˜normally’ – twice a week. β€˜Normally’ means eating your TDEE or less.

Here are some tips for those just starting: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!

Hi taletha πŸ™‚ you are most welcome to come and join us the more the merrier, i have only been doing 5:2 for 9 weeks now , and i can see a improvement in both my weight and waist loss , it is a bit quiet on here at the moment as 2 or 3 of our regular posters are on holiday , la_dolce_vita_222 ( Charmaine ) she is the one who started the thread is on holiday as are Karen and i think David is too, but I come on here every day and like everyone will give you as much support as you want πŸ™‚

thank you simco and ken for your welcome. sounds as though everyone is doing well and I sincerely hope I don’t let the side down.

2nd fasting day for me today and not going too bad. it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be. before starting, the thought of only a little food filled me with dread for some silly reason. had visions of crawling up the stairs on my hands and knees looking for crumbs whilst being starving hungry!!

I will send you a friend request ken and look forward to chatting more as this blog goes along.

    take care all x

yeah taletha, its simple stick to your tdee, and dont over eat/compensate/snack alot, then on 2 days a week fast and stick to 500.

charmaine you sould listen to hilly66 and have fewer -but regular-weighins then you will focus on PROGRESS/your long term plan and not be swayed/distracted by changing short term variations.

thks charmaine for the encouougement-thought leadership- you need it too mate!

i am back now ken thks-like you its my waist(its reducing length!) that is just so encouraging-this time on hols i got into a pair of 2006! trousers-a while ago i set my heart on getting the rubber tyre off my tummy and waist by training, but find this most hardest(?-sorry bad grammar) to keep up when working.

David Its great to have you back yes it does feel good to have to tighten my belt B-

    WOW ,,,UR AMAZING.. CONGRATS!!!!

Happy Hump Day (Wednesday) as we call it in my neck of the woods. Basically, by noon on Wednesday we’re over the hump on the work week. Going with 4:3 fasting until my end of month vacation. Co-worker noticed there is less of me this week. How nice to hear. Eating my fresh fruit as I type. Late lunch at work [1:17pm]

Hello to Lorraine11 and Taletha. Before you know it, Taletha, 5:2 will be a way of life for you. You’ll learn to modify special occasions to fit your fasting needs. I like to look a year down the road regarding ultimate success. This helps to minimize blips in my progress. Hope to reach my goal by December, then will do maintenance 6:1, or more, as needed. Sending you positive thoughts.

Simco, thank you for keeping us informed. That’s so helpful.

Ken, I’ll look you up on Facebook. Jean is my middle name. My nickname is Dee, short for Dolores. I learned as a teen that Dolores means lady of perpetual sorrow, and I wanted none of that! Friends and family already called me Dee, so I go by Dee in person. Look for my friend request. My maiden name is a body of water and my last name is a tree. Sounds a wee bit like a scavenger hunt, doesn’t it? I check Facebook as often as I check in here. It’s been a busy season for me personally and I grab time to log in. My grandsons play summer sports and I find myself at sporting events often. It’s delightful.

Glad to see David’s name on the board. I look forward to hearing about your workouts, David.

Thanks to those who keep the boards moving along. Some are on holiday, so as always, safe travels and great memory building.

Karen, 3wishes, Hilly (Gail?), Charmaine et al others — I trust you all are well and making progress as I type.

    Kindest Regards – Jean

Hello everyone from sunny Morocco. Having a great time hope everyone is good. WiFi is a bit hit and miss so haven’t been posting but hopefully this will get through OK. Diet gone to pot but I’m on holiday so I guess its allowed! I’ll be straight back on the wagon when I get home. Well bye for now.x

Wow, Karen – have a great time. The wagon will be waiting for you when you get home.
I am doing another 4:3 this week mostly just to get past the latest plateau. I’m over the crud my son brought home from college so I no longer am coughing and I can do some walking again.
Tonight I am roasting a whole turkey in under an hour – Weird for a weeknight dinner but we had a small turkey that needed to be eaten up. I learned how to spatchcock a turkey and the last time I tried it I cooked a 12 pound turkey in 1 hour. This new one is small so I figure I’ll aim for 45 minutes and then check it every 5 minutes. If you have never spatchcocked poultry before it is the technique of cutting out the backbone on it and then squashing it flat and roasting it at high temperature. It’ll be great to have all that turkey meat for making other dishes.

So what does everyone do when you are fasting and you stomach is growling? I growl back and go for a fast walk. The growling back is what toughens me up.
Everyone have a restful night and strong purpose tomorrow!!

Good Morning to one and all πŸ™‚ it is a happy fast day for me today , happy because i feel gooooood lol , i intend to stay just under my 600 alowance, so give me pleny of encouragement people xxx

JeanDee i am going to have great fun finding you on face book , am i right that you live in the mid west of America ? you always make me smile when i read your posts , thank you πŸ™‚

Karen , your on holiday (bugger the diet) ha ha as 3 wishes says the wagon will be parked in Darlington ready for when you get home, in the mean time i hope you and Ron are having an ace time

3wishes wow 4:3 is hard so like the others who have done it , you have my total respect πŸ™‚ x I am glad you got rid of your “crud” ( that’s your cold yes)?
When I am fasting (like today) when my tummy growls i now have a glass of soda water, with i slice of lemon , its a tip we all got from Melanie in Oz , she is doing a calorie counting diet now and hasnt been on here for a while , but she was very funny,
how are the rest of our 5:2 family doing , Gail , flowerpower , David ,Taleath , Lorraine 11 , charmaine ( think you are away too ) and everyone else

hope you are well and keeping the calorie devil at bay
May the CALORIE FORCE be with us all
