  • Good morning fellow fasters, just thought I would check in so I do not miss anything. Not sure if I have said on this threat that I am one happy welsh bunny this week I lost 1.+1/2 lbs after doing a B2B on Sunday and Monday only 1 lb to go for my WW goal and only 4 lbs to get me into the 9’s. Happy fasting everyone JIP

Morning all! Second fast of the week today which I am looking forward to. Yesterday was just spent working (I work from home so can be difficult with food so easy to grab), then out for dinner (chicken salad :-)) with my kids and parents. I really need to up my exercise, just walk the dogs daily at the mo. Im going to do my first weigh in tomorrow so fingers crossed – do you all weigh every day??????

lancsken, hope the hospital appt went well.
Karen, where did you get your hula hoop from…that sounds fun if not a bit painful!

Thanks everyone too for the brekkie advice 🙂

Hi paradise I weigh almost everday but I am a WW too and I have not got a lot too lose. Keep fasting JIP

The Calorie force be with us all

Hi Davidson, did you see my reply, regarding your history and the pedometer? I have cut and pasted.
Hi David your history that I was talking about was on yours thread on the 2nd May at 9.28am it was a running description of your torment. LOL I wish I had a good memory to let you know how I have done. I will just say slow but sure, I will not give up. I still go to WW my class Tuesday Mornings I go with my sister and about 5 friends all at different stages of our journey. I am sure you could go to any WW class just to purchase a pedometer they would be glad to get the sale. Have a look on line to find your nearest class. Failing that I would purchase one for you and post it to you if all else fails. Happy fasting JIP old post from the 5/5. JIP

This should be for Davidrob not Davidson as the thread/re-wrote. Sorry Davidrob. JIP

Checking in during my lunch hour at work — almost 1:00pm here. A bit overcast and windy, but we certainly did enjoy our past five days of sunshine, mild breezes and 80 degree weather [26.6 centigrade?] Karen, that’s how we get the twisty things in the sky. Hot / cold / hot / cold then swirling, cranky clouds skim the land.

Happy JIP – Sounds like you did well with B2B. Surely this shrinks the tummy a bit. Good for you!

Paradise – I love it that you look forward to fast days. Please don’t let any results affect your momentum. I know there’s a science to this, but some days we just don’t get results when we work hard the week before. Good thoughts for your weight in.

Ken, if memory serves, you were in N.Ireland during a ‘nervous’ era. No doubt you have many stories. Your adoration for your partner comes through loud and clear. How refreshing! Hope your mum is well. Do you celebrate Mother’s Day in England? It may be an American thing. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11th.

Flower Power – My sis and I will be trying a PIYO class soon at my gym. Do you enjoy PiYo? It’s a happy medium for my sis who likes to walk and play golf. She’s not a gym ‘rat’ or cyclist like I am and this is a good way to spend productive time together.

Hello Charmaine and Karen. Glad to hear you have quality support at home with your partners. It has to lighten your days as you live your 5:2 plan. Karen, I hope you have some positives this week to outweigh your frustrations. It is maddening. Glad we all have a place to vent and share.

Hello David — are you feeling better? I certainly am. Slept all night and it makes such a difference. Those blasted viruses!

Big waves to Diana, Fran, Mal, Sim, Mel and Lizzie.

Miss hearing from Syl, Nicky and Rocky. Hope all is well in your worlds.

If I left someone out, please forgive. As a poster previously stated, the family is growing and we may not address all readers, but it’s understood we’re well-intentioned people. No harm intended — ever!

Meeting dear friends for salad and thin-crust veggie pizza this afternoon. Making travel plans for a week this summer in Door County, Wisconsin. A lovely peninsula by Lake Michigan; a stone’s throw to the Canadian border. Region originally settled by Scandinavian people. Lovely culture. Artisans, musicians and nature abounds!

    Jean

JeanDee oh you are good 🙂 your comments are always just right, Yes i did 6 active service tours of duty in N.I. in the 70’s and 80’s So I have seen most things , as for nature ,I love nature , it has its own way of showing us how vunerable we can be on this planet ,Yes we do have Mothers day over here too, although I admit i am not sure when it is durrrr lol ,

I hope everyones day is going good , I have just had my tea, and am going to enjoy a mug of herbby tea

    see you all later 🙂

Dear fasting family…as assumed I am 1 lbs up today. Nothing to worry. I did some emotional eating….and thanks to solid support from Mel and Ken and all of you I am not feelig that bad…but am ready to knock it off.

Jeandee…i share the same weather here in India 🙂 it has been cloudy and overcast last few days. We love it! A relief from the the summer heat.

Ken…your lil personal story sounds adorable 🙂 i hope to say the same someday 🙂 my parents too are married for 37 years…they are my role models. Good luck for weigh in day today!!

Karen…hope u have healed nicely…and have mangad to knock off some of the 1.5lb

Mel, flowerpower, paradise, jip, david…hope all goes well for you today!

Bye and I will check back in later!

Hi everyone, I’m up by 0.5 lb (knocked off a lb from yesterday) too Charmaine so that’s both of us who will have to be good this weekend. It’s more frustrating that anything for me because most of this week I’ve weighed in at a lb less than this morning so I’m going to re-group and work hard this week to get it off and more if possible.

Still have bruises around my waist and hips so hula hooping is off the menu for a little while, hopefully not for good though.

Hope your little one is much better today too Charmaine, my kids are now 28 and almost 20 but I remember well how worried you can be when they are ill. As a mum you would rather be ill yourself.

Hope your weigh in goes well this morning Ken, I’m rooting for you.

Good luck to everyone else on here who are weighing in today, we’ll get there, just keep going.

Well better finish getting ready for work so have a great day and I’ll check in later.
    Karen x

Hi everyone! Weighing day today, lost another 600 grams (could be one kilo, it depends on how much I bend to see the weight on the scales…&l@/…anyone else has that problem?). Still I am happy, I see a huge difference in the mirror, I regret not having measured myself before starting…

    Have a great day everyone!!!

    Nina

Well done Nina! Charmaine here. How much have you lost so far…maybe you have already mentioned before…but our gang is huge now 🙂 i didnt know bending forward makes a difference…can you pls explain?

    good morning everyone,
at my weigh in today i am exactly the same as last week 12 st 11 lb and 40 ” waist , 🙂 I take the positives from that , in so much as , I havnt gained anything , So I am still very upbeat and because I know I have every one of you on this thread to help me I know I WILL be sucessful , 🙂

Charmaine I think you have the same attitude of myself , its positive and that alone can get you such a long way in life , and I do hope your Daughter isfeeling better today ,Well done you x

Karen i said yesterday be kind to yourself , you are such a lovely person , we all know that , i can just imagine your poor brusies aww lol , all obtained for the programme (5:2) , we will do this together , keep going 🙂 x

Nina fantastic loss , get in there Girl 🙂 🙂 can i ask how does bending over slightly on the scales make a difference? , keep up the good work x

Jean , flowerpower , Mel , David , Jip , paradice , Hope you are all well and being good ( well nearly good then ) ha ha 🙂

    see you all soon
    ken x

Well, I have been on IF since 28 February 2014 and have lost 7,3 kilos. I still need to lose another 7 to be the best I can be, that is I am 66,3 kilos now and would like to reach 59 or ideally 58, but in the long run, let’s say until Christmas. For now, I would like to lose 3 more kilos until mid July, let’s hope I will. How about you dolce vita?

About the scales… English is not my native language so I apparently chose the wrong word (bending). What I mean is that: you know how we get on the scales and ideally someone else could see the reading for us. But when we weigh on our own (as we all do) you have to look down a bit and it looks like you move a bit forward. Well, in that case my scales show a lower reading (about half to one kilo). Does this make any sense at all???

    xxx
    Nina

Hi nina…on IF since 15 March i have lost 7.5lbs…so around 3.5 kilos. Looks like a pound to half kilo per week. I could push it up I know…if i control my emotional eating. My ideal weight would be 53-54kilos…so another 20kilos …

ah…ok understood 🙂 i was wondering as i think david was asking something similar about bending forwards, backwards:-) i have nice digital ones which shows up big…so no bending for me 🙂

So, Charmaine, why is 53-54 kilos your ideal weight? I am 158 cm (I think 5feet 2?)and supposedly 53-54 is my ideal weight as well, but I don’t look better than I do on 58 kilos, worse I could say. My face gets too skinny and other parts get skinnier than I want:) Well done on your weight loss so far though, give yourself plenty of time and do gradual changes that you can follow for good!

What type of scales do you have? Could you maybe give me the make and model? I could use a good, reliable set of scales!

By the way, as part of my decision to eat more vegetables, I have been making a cabbage soup lately. I throw away everything but the broth when it finishes, I put it in a tall bottle and drink 1-2 glasses per day and it really fills me up! I don’t count the calories at all, as that would discourage me from drinking it, but in any case I don’t think there are many calories in it: I use half a big cabbage, 1 onion, a can of sliced tomatos (this has around 80 cals) and a vegetable cube. What do you think?

    xxx
    Nina

Nina…i am shorter 🙂 5feet..maybe I am expected to go lower then 🙂 Thank you. It has taken me a while to knock of the 24-25 lbs in this journey. And 7.5 via IF. I can see what you mean about looking good…that is sensible…I will see at what weight I feel good and then take a call….maybe it is good to focus on waist to height ratio …i hv been told.

i use a brand called Dr. MorePen…in India. It is good and accurate..

I think filling up with liquids is great day…cabbage soup hardly has calories…but on a fast day it does make sense to count to stick to 500. I will try this idea too Nina…filling up on soups….thanks for that!

Checking in at lunch time again while snacking on small bowl of fruit and a few baked pita crackers. That’s all I was in the mood for. Last night my daughter-in-law visited and gave me dark chocolate dipped strawberries for an early Mother’s Day gift. So nice. I ate three. Losing the sinus infection feeling/blues. Will go to gym after work and do a half workout. I hope David is feeling better by week’s end.

Nina6 – It’s so fabulous when you are pleased by your reflection as a result of your hard work. So motivating – keep going and have a good weekend.

Ken, my husband’s family originally is from County Antrim, N.Ireland. I understand it is a beautiful area and we have a trip planned in the future.

Jip, Paradise, Charmaine, Karen… you all have such healthy and positive attitudes. Thank you for the inspiration!

To all the mothers / moms / mums — Mother’s Day is May 11th in my world. Blessings and joy extended to each of you.

I’m leaving people out, I just know it — but my lunch is over and I’m off to attend to tasks. Have restful, productive weekends and hope loved ones are healthy in your homes. Jean

Evening guys Hope everyone’s had a good day. I’ve been pretry good eating wise today, stayed under TDEE, walked for 40 minutes and hoping to knock off half a lb in the morning. I think we’re a fasting family of short people, I’m only 5’4″ with a petite frame so every lb shows, hence I’m aiming for 9stone or slightly under. I fee/look better when I’m around that weight I think.

Hubbies knocked another 2 lb off so he’s down by 1 stone and that was his goal so he’s going to see how he does on maintenance now.
    Well onward and downward x

Hello everyone and well done to those of you who have lost weight. I don’t get chance to come on every day. I weighed yesterday morning and discovered I have lost a lb. I have lost 6 in total now since starting almost two weeks ago. I am finding this diet a lot easier than I expected and don’t feel hungry on fast days.

Hi Jean. I hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day. Here in the UK it is in March. I do believe though that Father’s Day is on the same day for both of us.

I am also quite short at 5′ 2″. I would like to lose about 40 lbs so have a long way to go.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and keep up the good work.
    Diana x

Hi everyone, well today is my 3rd fast day. Well i say 3rd but gone over by 196 cals so i suppose it is not really a fast but have been good today. Jeandee i loved doing piyo it was great fun, u use steps and weights. Its pretty full on mine lasted half a hour which was enough lol.

have been doing quite a lot of gym classes this week so i hope the scales shows all my hard work. Weighing in tomorrow morning before work sat 9th.

hope everyone has achieved what they wanted this week. Were all doing so well. This is the best plan that iv been on and getting used to it now. Finding fast days alot easier now.

my other half said he would makes me a bacon sandwich before work if i have lost weight. Lol x anyway blabbing on now, speak to all tomorrow. Night x

The thing I like best about these forums is how nice and encouraging everyone is. A real community. I don’t often post but I was excited today to weigh in, and I am now officially 3 stone (42 pounds) down from August when I began. I have achieved the weight I was 21 years ago when I got pregnant. The weight has been slow to come off with frequent plateaus since January, but it is moving. I had joined a local weight loss program online that is free, and they PAY you for losing weight!! (I don’t use their diet program) I have earned $90.00 so far and another $75.00 is on tap if I lose another 7 pounds. I find that I have to exercise a lot on my fasting days or else I cannot sleep. I get so hyper. I am on my third batch of clothes and am looking forward to getting something more form fitting that looks nice. It is exciting to see this working. Everyone notices my weight loss, and I feel amazing. I was invited as a guest to an annual vendor dinner at the best restaurant in town where we were fed incredible food and wine for over 2 hours. I ate and enjoyed. I knew my fasting day would be the next day. However, I discovered that I can’t eat like this any more. The next day I felt terrible. I was tired, my joints ached, and I had NO energy. Picture a boa constrictor swallowing a hippo. What a surprise!! So my body LIKES the fasting and really needs this. I can see myself doing this diet the rest of my life – and that’s something I have never said before about any diet.
Everyone keep going with your work and journey. It really is life changing.

3 wishes…lovely post. Congratulations on your incredible journey! I am so haply for you. I can imagine how proud you must be…how exciting it is!! Way to go and thank you for inspiring us!

Diana…congrats to you too!! Well and and keep it going!!

JeanDee…happy mothers day to you too!! 🙂 you inspire us as well.

Karen…well done on that 40 min workout!! Great going

my notes: down by 0.4lbs…so i am 162lbs. Down exactly 2.2lbs or 1 kilos this week. My goal per week.
I would like to maintain over the weekend! Thats my goal.

Morning faster family. Well done Charmaine for knocking off some of that emotional eating weight. I’d lost a lb when I weighed this morning, happy with that and going to keep going today. I have a meal out tonight so going to do a mini fast before I go because I need to move a little more by next week and break this plateau or whatever the heck it is.

Also well done to Diana and 3 wishes. You’ve both done really well. To lose 3 stone in 9 months is amazing 3 wishes and you got paid for losing it? I’m guessing you’re from the States? We have nothing like that over here in the UK that I know of but it’s a great idea and maybe we need to try that out.

Happy Mothers Day for tomorrow JeanDee and I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better. I’ve suffered sinus problems in the past and it’s not nice at all so you have my sympathy.

So this weekend I’m going to try to be good and stay under TDEE because that’s probably part of the reason I’ve not lost anything for the past 3 weeks. Unfortunately my TDEE is only 1650 ish so it’s really easy to go over 🙁 Next week I’ve decided to do 4:3 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. It’s not going to be easy and I’ve only done it once before when I first started this but determined to shift at least another half lb by next official weigh in. I go on holiday 3 weeks on Monday so time is running out!

Well I’ll check in later to see how we’re all doing – have a great Saturday wherever you are.
    x

Congratulations 3wishes, this is a tremendous success, I sure hope you are very proud of yourself!

Well done everyone on their loss, it doesn’t always matter how much, as long as there is a downwards trend.

No fast for me until Tuesday, though today and Monday I am doing 20:4 (or19:5) and staying under my BMR.

    Have a nice weekend everyone!

    Nina

Well done 3wishes that is fantastic. I would like to try and lose that amount of weight. Have you any tips or advice you can share with me?

I am not sure if I am doing this diet correctly. In just under two weeks I have lost 6 lbs (5 in the first week). Every time I have dieted before I have lost a lot more in the first few weeks because I have quite a bit of weight to lose. My fast days are fine keeping to 500 calories but on the other days I am trying to stay below 1200. I have started exercising for about 20 to 30 minutes a day on the exercise bike. Is it possible I am not eating enough on non fasting days? I have been reading on the internet about TDEE and BMR and am just a little confused by it all. I would appreciate help from anyone who understands all this stuff.

Nina – Please can you explain to me what 20:4 and 19:5 means.

Good luck to everyone over the weekend. I know I am probably expecting too much of a weight loss early on but if I am doing something wrong I would like to try and change it now.

    Have a lovely weekend. xx

Hi Diana you seem to be doing fine to me. A 6 lb loss in just 2 weeks is actually better than average as most women only lose an average of 1 lb a week. It’s not a quick fix diet and if you scan through these boards you’ll see that people have lost weight slowly but steadily over a long period of time. I started this about 9 or so weeks ago and have only lost about 5 lbs but as I only wanted to lose around half a stone and I’m close to my target weight anyway it’s come off very slowly and I’ve actually stayed the same for the last 3 weeks. I have noticed though that I’m fitting into clothes better, have actually gone down a dress size and my shape has changed. I only wish I’d measured myself when I started because that would have shown up that I’ve lost inches but maybe not lbs.

The thing to do is work out your TDEE and BMR by using the ‘How’ button at the top of this page and on non-fast days you try to eat between the 2 numbers if you can. On your 2 fast days you obviously keep to 500 calories so over the course of the week you are cutting a fair amount of calories out of your diet. There is some thinking that exercise slows down the amount of weight you lose but that’s maybe because when you start to build muscle it weighs more than fat but your shape will change and become leaner so I think for health reasons it’s important to keep up with doing your 20-30 minutes a day on your bike.

Just stick with it, you will get there, and keep checking in on this thread because we’re a friendly bunch and you’ll get loads of encouragement and support.

Good luck with your weightloss journey and have a great weekend.
    Karen x

Thanks Karen. I have taken a look and will try to eat more on non fast days. Well done with your loss and thanks for the encouragement. I thought I might give hula hooping a go too.
    Diana xx

No problem Diana, any more help, just ask and someone will try to advise. I’m not hula hooping at the moment due to the bruises around my middle! Will be starting again when they disappear hopefully next week. If you buy one I suggest you get a weighted one and make sure it’s smooth on the inside because the one I got from e-bay was a magnetic weighted one and it has knobbles around the inside – not sure if it’s just the hula hooping or the knobbles which have made me bruised but if the bruising comes back I think I’ll invest in a smooth one and see if that’s any less vicious. Have a look on Amazon because they seem to have a large selection and look at the reviews before you buy. They are good fun but you’ll also need plenty of room if you don’t want to demolish your house, the only place I can do it is outside or maybe the garage!

Let me know how you go and keep in touch on here.
    Karen x

Hi Diana…20:4 and 19:5 are other methods of IF which requires you to eat you.calories in consecutive 4 or 5 hours resp and fast for remaining 20 or 19 hrs resp. …i hv read about this but not tried it yet…

Hi Diana, sorry it took so long to reply, I just logged in, however I see that there is always someone willing to help:) You will love it here, people are really helpful and have good intentions from as far as I have seen. About the calories, I believe you are doing it well, however, if I were you I would eat up to my TDEE or between BMR and TDEE on non fasting days, it will be easier for you that way and easier means you will be able to stay longer on it. Read through the forum, you will learn a lot and you will be inspired by some of the members. My advice to you (and me) is take your time, see it as a long process, this way of eating is actually quite easy so it’s not like you are longing for it to end. For example, my goal is to lose another 7-8 kilos by Christmas, but 3 of them by mid July with the intention of maintaining my weight during the summer (while I will be in Greece for 6 weeks summer vacation). I concentrate on making small changes and heading to a more healthy lifestyle in general. Good luck! Read the forum. I usually read every evening for encouragement and inspiration!

Hi everyone, thought i would say hi and let u all know how my weight is going. Weighed in today and lost 2lbs. Great news as i was only expecting maybe a 1lb a week.
    starting weight
    14/4/14 : weight 10.8
    21/4/14 : weight 10.5
    28/4/14 : weight 10.4
    3/5/14 : weight 10.3
    10/5/14 : weight 10.1

sorry but don’t ozs as gets to confusing lol x

thanks for everyone’s encouragement its great. I find it easier to have little goals like my first goal was to get to half a stone 7 lbs, my next goal is to get to a stone.

i go on holiday on the 7 of June so would like to lose another 7 lbs. I know i can lose 2 lbs a week now i just got to work hard at gym and my classes. X good luck everybody x

Morning everyone , there are some really great posts on here for the last few days , it is so encouraging to read all the positve material that you all put on,
Jean . over here they say that Kent is the garden of England and i think that is quite right having spent a good deal of time there in my early army day , but what i say is that Northern Ireland is th egarden of Great Britian, it really is a lovely country

its fast day tomorrow so i will be getting myself organised for it later on
Have a great day everyone and may the calorie force be with you all

Morning guys, looks like everyone has been a bit quiet over the weekend, hope you’ve all had a good one.

I’ve somehow managed to put on 2 lbs since Friday and not quite sure how (havein’t eaten any more than usual over a weekend) but I’m doing 4:3 this week (today, Wed and Thurs) so here’s hoping it’ll be gone by Friday. My back has been playing up for a few days and I’ve been in alot of pain this weekend so I haven’t done any exercise except for walking Harvey so maybe that’ll account for some of the gain. I’ve decided to do 4:3 until I go on holiday in 3 weeks, hopefully to get rid of the stubborn plateau that I’ve had the last 3 weeks – wish me luck because it ain’t going to be easy 🙁

We seem to have lost David this week, hope he’s ok, and if you’re there David come on board again and tell us how you’re getting on.

Well I’d better go and get ready for work so I’ll check in later. Have a good day everyone x

Hello! Karen you are not alone…I am up by 3lbs…thia morning. But I expected some increase as we had Sat and Sun with weddings and other events. I too plan to take it up a notch to 4:3 hoping to lose the 3lbs and some more.

It has beeb quiet over the weekend. Hope all if you are OK. Take care!!!

Morning All! Sorry not been on here over the last few days…had a call from the doctors on Friday afternoon and my 90 year old nan needed to be taken to hospital (she wont go in an ambulance so told the doc to phone me!), suspected mini stroke, didnt get out of the hospital until 11pm. The whole weekend has been taken up with being a taxi service to the kids, visiting nan (who is ok by the way and hopes to come out today if they will let her) and trying to catch up with work!!

However, the good news is that I lost 5lbs in my first week!!! Wow cant believe it, I didnt struggle too much with the fast days and the other days mainly(ish) stuck to my TDEE. I know the weight loss will slow down and Im happy with slow but sure! Thanks everyone for all your support and advice last week, it definitely made it easier!

Here’s to another good week. Have a good day everyone x

Well done Paradise…that is impressive. Keep it up! Hope your nan geta better soon.

Hello everyone , Karen & Charmaine i was sorry to read about your tiny gains but if you are both doing 4:3 this week i am confident you will see a loss come friday morning ,

Paradise you have got off to a brilliant start and yes it will slow down but by keep popping on this thread (and others i am sure) you will get all the encouragment you will ever need

David HELLO 🙂 where are you , come back to us mate

    Mel , Dreamgirl ,flowerpower , JeanDee ,Diana1967 , Nina6 , 3wishes , and anyone else i may have left off , keep up the good work ,

May the Calorie force be with you x

Hi everyone. Just checking in for an update: Saturday went well, Sunday not so well, although not too bad, I wasn’t counting but I think I might have gone over my TDEE by 200-300 cals, so today, although I was supposed to do 20:4, I am water fasting (that’s what I always do with fasting). Tomorrow is my normal fast day but because I don’t think it would be wise to water fast two days in a row, I might eat around 500 cals just for dinner.
    Anyone else fasting today?
My walking goes really well too, about 70 minutes almost every day, but getting wet from the rain every time lately…
Keep up the good work guys, love yourself and be nice and gentle, patience is central to this:)
    xxx

Hi Charmaine which 3 days are you fasting this week? I’m doing today, Wednesday and Thursday and hoping for a bit of a loss of the gained weight. If I don’t lose what I want on Friday I’m just keeping going with 4:3 until I go away. I told myself I’d do that if it got close to the holiday and I still hadn’t got where I wanted to be. Unfortunately doing exercise other than walking is out for me at the moment because my back has been really painful the last 4 days so I’m taking painkillers and putting a heat pack on it to try to ease it off.

Well done paradise you’ve done amazingly well for your first week. Keep going and I’m sure you’ll get where you want to be in the end. Hope your nan gets better soon too.

Well better go, gotta go out in the rain with Harvey now and so not looking forward to it 🙁

    Good evening to all
Nina is that all you have for a full day when you fast . just water ? do you not even allow yourself your allowance of 500 cals , wow tell us how you do it please
I need to do more walking , at a brisk pace for my exercise , I reckon i just need a kick to get me going lol , anyone got any motivation ideas (I cant get a dog because Liz wont have another) so that idea is out im affraid

Hi. I shouldn’t be talking any more today cause I didn’t manage to do the fast, I turned it into 16:8, have consumed 400 cals and will have dinner too, intend to stay below 1200 cals. Anyway, I guess if I don’t have it planned I can’t stick to it, meaning that this week I hadn’t planned to fast on Monday so I simply didn’t do it. I will fast tomorrow and Thursday as planned.
Well, I cannot do anything else than water fast, I simply choose to not bother at all with food on fast days. I choose days that I am busy and I go to bed very early, right after my children, that is at around 8.40. I stay in bed reading the forum until I fall asleep (which is very easy for me).
A dog is no way of getting to walk, unless you train it to follow and really listen to you(I have a dog but don’t take her along in my fast pace walks)! Other than that, I always think that walking is not to lose weight but for health (although walking has helped me in the past to lose weight even without any diet). I bought a pedometer which is a good motive and I also take along my ipod and actually long to listen to my favourite songs, since I don’t have any time to do that all day.
Hope I helped. Do the walking, you will see a great difference, lanchsen, but stick to a programme that you will be able to follow in the longrun (more or less). The weather in the UK is not very helpful for walking, but, to be honest, I have stopped straightening my hair (I have curly hair) so that I don’t care if it gets wet and curly again, and I don’t care if I get wet, it can’t be done another way:)

Well paradise1. That is where I would be paradise if I dropped 5 lb in a week I thought 3lb was great, it does slow down but let’s keep trying. I do not find the fast days hard but I must try to watch the other days. Happy fasting JIP

Hi nina6′ what do you mean my water fasting? is that only having water all day or no water all day. not sure I could do without my water. Thanks JIP

First, my apologies to lancsken for spelling his name completely wrong:))

JIPWGP, I certainly mean eat nothing all day and drink water. But I think it is a more general term, in the sense that I don’t actually drink only water. I do drink my morning coffee (black with stevia) and sometimes I drink some tea.

It is the easiest way for me. However, I should have been drinking more water than usual (I drink about 2 lt, but it’s not enough).

I just find it easier not to think about what to eat on a fast day and I really hate counting calories (it’s a psychological thing from all those years of calory counting that lead nowhere).

Diana1967 asked me if I had any tips or advice now that I have been into this for 9 months. Wow, has it been so long? I have to say I had to think about this a long time. I think one of the ways that I have changed since the first heady excitement of the rapid weight loss of the first month (5 or 6 pounds the first week or two??! zounds you guys – you really out stripped me!!) is that I no longer weigh myself more than twice a month. It seems maybe counter-intuitive I think but I no longer worry about small gains or losses – I am looking for a more long-term trend. I have been on several plateaus which I have accepted (fairly) gracefully and learned to look at the big picture. I am very overweight – I still have 30+ pounds to lose before I will be considered “overweight” and not “obese”. So, I figure now at my current rate I am in this weight loss mode for another year at least. Discouraging? well, not really. It took me 40 years to get to this weight – I figure I’ll give myself a break and not wish for miracles. (My id is my hint that you need to be careful for what you wish for – the only way to lose a HUGE amount of weight in a short amount of time is neither healthy – nor with expected happy outcomes – remember those nasty codicils from that genie…..)
So, advice – I have lowered my fast day calories from 500 to about 400 now. I eat a lot less on Feeding days naturally. So I need to lower my fast day calories. I avoid all carbs on fast days. No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice. I have upped my exercise considerably. I try to park at the farthest part of the parking lots. I climb the stairs instead of riding the elevator. I take the LONG way to the printer in my office – and do it at race-walking speed.
My craving for a lot of food is totally gone so I opt naturally for better choices in my day to day diet. I don’t eat a whole bag of chips at one sitting – I eat 10 chips. I might have a dessert after lunch (like I did on mother’s day) but afterwards I opt not to eat dinner – because I am SO full.
On fasting days I try to find activities that keep me very very busy with my head and my hands. I found out I eat when I am bored. So…the trick is to not get bored. I have taken up handcrafts – making costumes for a show, sewing embroidery, picking out a 20 minute cleaning project. On fast days in the evenings I opt for a LOOOONG bath with a book far away from the kitchen.
One of the things that has motivated me is this on-line weight program sponsored by a local health organization that PAYS money if you lose weight. They pay quarterly. $15.00 at first, then $30.00, then $45.00, then $75.00 etc. if you meet the goals of a 5% weight loss, a 10%, 15%, 20% etc. At one year they reset the bar and you start again. If that is a motivating factor I would think that you could do something like that on your own – put aside $350.00 into a fund or with someone trusted to pay you. And earn that money back. Something to think about. I know this can be a lot of money but just of how much money you are saving by this diet. No fancy meals to buy, no dues – consider how much money you save by not eating out all the time!!
Good luck everyone and may your fast be an easy one. I am fasting today and looking forward to my dinner tonight – baked lemon fish and roasted cauliflower.

Managed to lose 0.6 of the 3 lbs today. I am not well and neither is my little one…so trying times this week!

Karen I am doing same as you Monday, Wednesday and Friday. trying to fill up on hot soups…and splitting it into 3 as I need to take my medication and cannot do it on an empty stomach…

3 wishes, Ken, Nina, flowerpower, JIP, Jeandee, paradise….great to hear from you all…as always…thanks for your words of wisdom…encouragenent…!!

    david, mel…how is it going?

Morning everyone and to Mel and David, where the heck are you, have you been beamed up by aliens lol!

You have done so well 3 wishes and are an inspiration to everyone here. You sound like you needed to lose quite alot of weight and you have stuck with 5:2 and still there plodding away. You’ve given the guys some great tips and motivation and I applaud you and wish you luck on the rest of your weightloss journey. I have no doubt you’ll get there because you seem to have totally changed your mindset. Well done.

Charmaine, I’m glad I’ve got someone to keep me going this week on our 4:3. It’s not gonna be easy but we’ll do it. I just want to lose this extra I gained and a wee bit more and I’ll be happy but I’m still going to carry on with 4:3 now until my holiday. I know what you mean about taking meds on an empty stomach – I’m taking painkillers and anti-inflammatories an some need to be taken with or after food, so annoying when I don’t actually want breakfast :/

Well better go and finish getting ready so hope everyone has a great day, 3 wishes you are fasting today so good luck with that and as Ken says let the calorie force be with us 😉

Hiya peeps, slacker here… Been super busy since last post, have had a quick each day though and you all still continue to inspire me with your determination. I’ve switched back to calorie restriction 1200-1400cals per day as this has given me great success in the past, however the novelty (and support of this group) has given me the much needed push to my motivation. I’ve personally found 5:2 too much of a change and keep overeating on non-fast days to overcompensate. So back to what I know works for me. However if you’ll still have me I’d love to stay part of this group and offer support where I can.

I’ve been a good girl today and yesterday, on track with calories, although finding it a bit hard right now which is why I’m here.

Good luck to you all for the rest of the day 🙂

PS Karen, thanks for the kick up the butt!! 😉
