  • Starting tomorrow, well, technically today, but I haven’t slept yet and it’s almost half 2 in the morning. Any tips? How do you guys have the will power to not eat? Also, why do I feel like I’m going to start something sinful, like I’m an anorexic or something. x_x Starvation just seems crazy… is this just social programming or something?

Well…it is not completely starvation – you do have your 500/600 calories!

I try and not eat until the evening. If I eat anythng before hand I get really hungry. Lot’s of water helps me.
    Best of luck
    Stef.

    Making Progress,

Have you read the book? If so you should realize that eating 600 calories or less two days each week is far from starvation. In fact if you choose wisely you will be pleasantly surprised by just how much food you can have for those 600 calories. I tend to avoid refined carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, sugar) and focus on protein, fat and vegetables.

There is nothing sinful about fasting twice a week. Quite the opposite in fact. I am not of a religious persuasion, but the last time I looked ‘fasting’ was not one of the seven deadly sins. ‘Greed’ and ‘gluttony’ on the other hand…!

    Hi again.

Coming to the end of day #1. I’ve eaten and drank:

    1 protein shake, around 130kcal.
1 lemon-soaked spring water. (felt weird asking for that at the pub lol)
Came home and ate a bunch of grapes as I was so hungry and a bit tired. 100g of the grapes are 66kcal, and I ate probably 100kcal’s worth at most, maybe.

I’ll be having a protein shake later – I guess you could say I’m saving it – which should keep me going through the later evening.

Started off easy, but I suddenly started getting weak and tired. I think if I hadn’t have gone out for the afternoon to meet a friend, hang out at the pub, and walk around town, then gone to visit my dad, I’d have probably never managed it so cleanly. I also don’t drive so did a fair bit of walking. Bonus!

See how it goes, eh. Do I fast tomorrow or eat normally? (for me, normal is salad, cous-cous, a couple of shakes, and lately something naughty like a pasty or crisps.)

IDK if this alcohol is forbidden, but I imagine not, since they say eat anything you want within the 500/600 kcal. I can’t imagine this Bucks Fizz has much in the way of caloric content. xD Not enough to merit them even listing it on the bottle. It’s gassy, so that should help me feel full. I probably went overboard on the grapes since they’re so sugary. x_x

Hi Making progress. First of all dont feel bad about fasting its doing your body good and you are def not starving yourself. You asked how we have the will power not to eat? Well its simple we dont lol thats why 5:2 is so great we only have to have that will power twice a week and that makes it manageable. You may want to download a calorie counting app Mu Fitness Pal is great. You may not want to count calories on Non fast days but for fast days its crucial you stick to the 500/600 cals or below. Also you should work out your TDEE this is the maximum amount of calories you shoild eat on normal days you can work this out on the tracker. Good luck

The first day is the hardest. On my first day I found myself constantly thinking about food. I made a choce to totally not eat for 12 hours straight. For that reason, I eat two small meals a day 12 hours apart with the last meal happening around 7-7:30pm. Having that meal later really helps me to sleep through the night also. During the fast period I drink lots of coffee and if I feel a hunger pang I have a green tea which makes it totally go away.
After the first day I found that it got a whole lot easier. I’m 6 weeks in now and the fast days are almost effortless. I might feel hungry once or twice per fast day but it goes away within minutes. Hope this helps and good luck!

I don’t use other apps other than the ones that came with my phone’s ROM.

Most things show what calories are on it, so I can count that way for the fast days, as I did today. I don’t have to worry about every single calorie unless I’m super close to 600, but so far, I’m well under 600.

As for the TDEE, since that basically seems to be the maintainance amount, for it’s around 2.6-2.9k calories, ‘though it varies a bit depending on the exercise done in that week, apparently. Can I not hit a caloric deficit as usual in order to continue losing body fat? If I eat 1.9k calories on none-fast days, I’ll lose even more weight.

Yes of course TDEE is the maximum you should eat on normal days and yes it is maintaince calories but thats the point of the fast days 🙂 my TDEE is around 1600 but i ususlly eat around 1300 on normal days only because my apetite has changed and 1600 seems too much most days its simply a guideline and you shouldnt go over it 🙂

I really would recommend strictly counting cals on fast days as it would shock you the calories in some food. Oh and a can of bucks fizz is arond 138 cals.

WTF O.O They really should’ve put that on the bottle with that amount of kcal. I drank the whole bottle thinking it was diddly-squat. ¬_¬ At least I know for the future, and I doubt I went too far over 600. Apparently it’s 67kcal per “glass”, whatever the hell a glass is. Unfortunately, it’s apparently also 10.5g carbs per “glass”. ¬_¬ Bit annoying, but oh well. Might’ve been OK if I didn’t make the 2nd protein shake, but I kinda needed it to stave hunger. On the bright side, it’s not like I’ll gain weight. xD I’d rather go nuts on a bottle of fun wine than go nuts on a large pizza dripping with calories.

As I say, I will be counting calories on fast days, and have done today. I ain’t gonna kick myself because they failed to provide nutritional information on the bottle. Next time that happens, I’ll just check online and see what they say, although it seems kinda pointless if they’re gonna just say crap like “glass”… there are many shape glasses out there. xD

    Hi Progress:

You clearly do not have a feel for how many calories you are eating. I suggest you make an effort to read labels and count every calorie you take in on your diet days.

By the way, a bottle of fun wine has over 600 calories – about as much as pizza.

    Good Luck!
