Good morning everyone,
Thanks for your good wishes Salma, and your suggestions Makica.
Losing weight has made a big difference to my general health, so that has been a great help in managing the me/ cfs
Well you must have looked WOW Milena. I went to find you on fb, came across a you in black bathers, and another you with no pic, but couldn’t see the photos. Fb must be alive with connections this morning!
Best wishes everyone.

Good Morning!
Oh sure…this will still be “home”. FB is just another way of connecting. Apologies for my profile picture. I really do need to update it. It was taken at Niagara Falls a number of years ago, but I still look the same(in my mind) 😉 I’ll work on a new picture.
It is great to see everyone and get to know you thru your pictures on FB. I don’t post a lot on FB, but read quite often.
Anyway…back to boot camp this morning, working a 1/2 day and then off to the golf course! A beautiful day in November is not to be missed. I don’t even care if I don’t play well…a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at work!
Eating was not great yesterday. Not excessive calories, but I don’t think I had a single veggie! I’m a work in progress.
Make it a good day!
I sitting here having a break from work, watching Rick Stein making Pasticada, beef with figs and prunes. At the same time checking the masterchef chocolate mousse two ingredient recipe – – chocolate and cream – thinking of doing it at Christmas, thought son is doing his raspberry roulade for Christmas dinner – or the custard dessert I saw earlier on my kitchen rules – and planning a lamb dish for the weekend, and thinking of my list of wine for Christmas, of course some decent stuff as I am teetotal for the six weeks before. And I can’t decide whiether to get hubby to buy me something for supper when he goes to the shops, or just have a bowl of muesli, or just call it a fast day.
We women can certainly multi-task.
Salma I wholeheartedly agree that this is home for FAs.
Milena I am in total dark about Masterchef Australia. I don’t watch television much. And if I do it’s not food related because I have a very low threshold in this kind of temptation. I would be either raiding the fridge or ordering something from a restaurant. *totally ashamed*
But anyway I had a good FD yesterday. Will have another tomorrow and then of to Slovenia and the beautiful seaside town of Portoroz. Did I tell you girls that the hotel I stay in has breakfast until noon and they serve champagne all morning. I love that. Go through your days with a haze. hahahah
Hope everything is going well for all of you. My new pants are falling of my b..t, but I think it is due to the material stretching and not me shrinking unfortunately. Haven’t been doing my Yoga or Pilates for 2 weeks now. Will go back to torture when I come back from my vacation. I never skip my workouts but I am a bit tired of everything. Need some change.
So dear ladies be smart, you don’t have to be good. 😉
Love m
Hello!
Having a boring afternoon at work. Waiting for month end figures from Corporate so I can continue with closing the books and doing reports. I was hoping to get an email this afternoon with what I need, but nothing so far. 🙁
Had a fun day on the golf course yesterday. Another beautiful day today and wishing I was back out there. Winter will be here all too quickly and will, no doubt, drag on for an eternity.
Didn’t really worry about my eating yesterday with all the activity(boot camp & golf), but am trying to be extra vigilant today. I did go to boot camp this morning, so burned around 400-500 calories. I’m really tired today, but hope a good night’s sleep fixes me up as I want to work out tomorrow morning too. I’ll take 2 days off over the weekend.
Hope you’re all having a fabulous day!
Cheers for your second Fast Mrs Jake.
Hi Salma I hope you had a good time at the gym, and best wishes for being in retreat mode.
Cheers to you, getting ready for your retreat too Makica.
Hi Sherry, hi everyone!
I recognise all those people from Australian Cooking Shows. What a busy Christmas you would have if you got your list of wishes Milena!. (PS We can even put in a claim to Rick Stein these days!).
I love cooking shows, although not so much the competitions. We have a great channel SBS which showcases multiculturalism. I am so excited about their new channel (33 for Aussies) that is all about food. There will be shows from all over the world. It begins in a couple of weeks.
Haven’t got a Christmas wish, but I hope I can get together with family! I might even be up to decorating my house, and doing cards this year. Oo but it is coming quickly.
Hello everyone,
At home trying out some “healthy” recipes. First one I just made was a bomb (in the bad context of the word!). Cinnamon pecan cookies where you use cinnamon oil instead of powdered- all I can say is eeeeeuuuuww! Overpowering cinnamon taste! Oh well, at least my house smells like X-mas (on steroids!). Kind of like those cinnamon scented pine cones you buy here in the states to give your house a holiday smell! Poor kids will come home from school whiffing the air and thinking there’s something yummy to eat- alas, no such luck! I have a friend from Ireland who told me they don’t even use cinnamon much in baking there?
Milena, I don’t recognize your Xmas list ( or should I say “lust”), but you go girl! Don’t know if your hubby would buy you something off that list though!
Makica! Have a wonderful holiday & post some pics on FB if you are able!
Salma & Cinque, you sound like the FDs are going well! So happy it’s working out for you!
Lori, yes- would love to at least see a clearer pic if you but happy to see you nonetheless!
My weight is holding pretty steady which is nice- hoping in a week ur so it will start to migrate downward again after its gotten used to where I’m at! My back pain is getting a bit better as I’ve started to have therapeutic laser treatments done to the area- so I’m hopeful.
Have a great day all!
Sherry
Salma, sounds like you’re back on track & doing well!
In continuation of the bad batch of cookies saga: person who gave me the recipe when confronted said, ” oh, I know I told you that was a typo and it should have read, “1 Tablespoon of ground cinnamon and cinnamon oil to taste if desired, not 1 Tablespoon of cinnamon oil”. Um, Nooooo, you didn’t tell me that, as I forget a lot of things but not cookie recipes just given to me a few days ago! I could probably make a lot of money selling my cookie diet: eat one of theses suckers before each meal and watch your appetite and weight disappear! ? I’m still trying to get the cinnamon coating off of my tongue!
Ok Lori, I’ll check out the new photo! I’m curious, did anyone else envision the people that shared their FB photos looking different from how they were in real life? My idea of Milena & Makica were sort of close too!
At least you will have no toenail fungus on your tongue Sherry! http://cinnamonvogue.com/cinnamoncommonuses.html
I remember when my sister worked in the US for a year (about thirty years ago!!!!) she was amazed at how much cinnamon was used there. In Australia it is quite popular, on par with nutmeg and cloves!
Are you going to get your wicked friend back? A recipe that accidentally has a tablespoon of cayenne perhaps?
Hi Sherry
showed that photo to hubby’s brother, he didn’t recognise either of us – that it was a mutual friend and his wife!!! Must say I had said earlier he looked like the same guy, amazing what a moustache can do, I had bought him a fake one, but he grew his for a few days and I dyed his tache and his hair with hair gel and eyeshadow,
I’m blond with a completely different shaped face, not one of the neighbours recognised me!!!
Hubby wants to take me out in the frock at Christmas, will post a pic then
Hi all.
I’ve gotten Facebook connections with Sherry, Milena, and Makica. Lori? Cinque? Anyone else? All I can say is what a bunch of lovely, lovely women!
Fasted yesterday. I am finding the fasting days getting much easier. When I fast on a day I’m teaching I hardly even notice it and am not all that hungry in the evening, nor the next morning. I’m continuing the fast a bit this morning with no breakfast. We’ll see about lunch. Haven’t confronted my friend the scale yet, but I do feel my clothes are looser. I’ve reconciled to the fact that this is going to be a very slow process for me and that’s ok.
Welcome Mrs. Jake and congratulations on getting your first week under the belt, so to speak.
Makica, your holiday sounds absolutely wonderful. The Adriatic is stunning. How I could use a week away and the silence right now. Alas, that won’t happen as the term is in full swing. But I am on sabbatical next semester so may be able to take some time for myself then. Milena, I’ve been invited to give a talk and spend as much time as I like at the University in Copenhagen. If that turns out I’ll have to get some tips from you.
Sherry, still marveling at your wonderful loss. If I had kept up with you I’d practically be at my goal. Your cookies reminded me of a time a scrupulously followed a recipe for baby artichokes baked in mint. The recipe called for 2 cups of mint leaves. Seemed like an awful lot but I thought, what do I know? Must have wanted two tablespoons, cause the artichokes were absolutely inedible and the whole house smelled like burnt mint for days!
Salma, so glad to hear things are picking up and congrats on 3 fast days back to back. I’ve done two but don’t think I could do three.
Milena, Cinque, guess I’ll have to look those guys up on-line. I don’t have a functioning TV since I never updated when we went to HD. And I live in the country where there’s no cable. I haven’t missed it at all. But now I’m curious to see all these lovely men.
No more fasting till Sunday. But good luck to everyone who is fasting today.
MM
Good Morning!
Made it thru day 3 in a row of boot camp! I got my 4 sessions in this week as planned. I’m looking forward to 2 days off for a bit of a break. I’m not sure what, if anything, I’ll do this weekend. I do love just puttering around the house. Often, on a cold, winter weekend, I’ll come home from work on Friday afternoon and not set foot outside till I go to boot camp Monday morning! I guess there’s something to be said for being content at home.
I have been eating pretty much to plan this week, but didn’t step on the scale this morning. Not sure if I’ll make it till the end of the month, but we’ll see. I feel thinner, so why step on the scales and have that good feeling ruined, right? 😉
Hope you all have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!
Ha! Cinque, you crack me up. The remedy may be needed for my 10 year old son in the future though! He’s the only kid out of the four that amazingly never needs his toe nails cut! We think he bites them off! I hate to even say it, it’s so disgusting! He of course swears he doesn’t but can’t explain the lack of growth! The crazy & weird things kids do! Yes- I should get my friend back, but I’m too nice & she’s obviously embarrassed and just trying to cover her back!
Milena, you guys looked so cute and your hubby looked as though he was enjoying wearing his get up! He must have really liked you in that dress if he wants to take you out wearing it again!
MM, I meant to tell you, I definitely see why people told you that you looked like Meryl Streep in thr French Lieutenant’s Woman- there’s definitely a resemblance! Do you appreciate your red hair and fair skin more as you’ve gotten older? My 15 year old, who’s a red head ( bordering on strawberry blonde), likes her hair (its uniqueness) but hates her fair skin. I told her there’s a lot of people who’d love to have her hair & complexion! I’m so glad you’re feeling like you’re losing again! You will get there- I just luckily had a unique set of circumstances that helped me lose relatively quickly- definitely not my norm.
Lori, you too! You sound like you’re back on track! You’ll know when it feels right to weigh again. I still need to get on FB & check out your new pic! I’ve had a busy couple of days & haven’t been on the computer.
Off to early bed. Unfortunately I’m catching the cold one of the twins brought home ( that one almost always has a finger up her nose, so no wonder) – again TMI re: my kids! ?
Sherry
Ha Sherry! No problem chewing his toenails with all that cinnamon in the house!
I hope your cold is weak and short!
Lori how impressive all those boot camps are!
I pulled some violets out (they go made around and in between my plant pots) That was my boot camp for the day. I’m exhausted!
It has been a beautiful day here: cool and grey this morning, but that cleared to sun and a brisk breeze to dry my washing, and then settled into humid stillness to make all my little seedlings happy.
Now it is a lovely evening, full of birdsong. I’m in the middle of non fast days, so how luxurious!
Good morning all! I’ve been up early for a Saturday. Was awakened at the crack of dawn with what sounded like my neighbors staging a reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. Deer hunting season. So far my two dogs are taking it remarkably calmly.
Sherry, I was exactly like your daughter. I loved the red in my hair, so much so that when it would go blond in the summer I would dye it to make it red again. But I hated being the “fairest in the land” when all my friends were sporting gorgeous tans. I learned early on not to even try to tan since the only result would be freckles. I also found tanning boring. Now, while my lover mourns the summers he spent as a lifeguard and treks one more time to the dermatologist to get spots removed, I thank my lucky stars (and my grandmother’s genes) for my fair skin. I also found the Meryl Streep comparison helpful. I’m afraid I’m not up on my actresses these days (perhaps Laura Linney?) but there must be a lovely fair redhead or blond out there to be your daughter’s role model of beauty.
Lori, I loved your “jeans of truth” I read on another site! I have my own pair and will forevermore call them that now. Right now they zip, but only because there’s a wee bit of spandex in the fabric. My goal will be reached when they zip easily and sit lightly. Not there.
Cinque, I have the violet problem too. I love the flowers in the woods but they are soooooooo invasive! I’m perpetually waging war with them in all my flowerbeds. So far they’ve pretty much occupied one bed and keep making sorties into the others, where I beat them back. Like the wars of old, we call a temporary truce during the winter.
Off to get my hair done today. I get a glaze in an attempt to tame the frizzies. Perhaps I’ll have her put a little bit of red tint in it this time, just a little, and relive my glory days.
No fasting today, but back on for tomorrow. Sherry, hope your cold is not too bad. Lori, would still love to connect on Facebook (Noreen Herzfeld) but not sure who to friend.
MM
Yes MM, the Violet Wars! Mine have only just become overbearing, after several years, and as I said they are doing a good job loosening up the impacted soil my pots are sitting on (impacted and covered with those little white stones) but now they are reaching up and getting into pots. I can tromp on them, pull them out, pull things over the top of them, and within a week they are upright and happy again!
Cate Blanchett is my actress icon for celebrating translucent fair skin. My daughter has very fair skin, and luckily she has never been interested in tanning and does a good job protecting it…. but I don’t think it would be as fair and fine as your daughter’s Sherry. I hope she comes to appreciate it!
Re facebook, people are welcome to find me: Joy Stevenson, Melbourne (picture of two Chinese girls for no particular reason except that it is lovely!) I’ll be happy to friend you and be friends back, but please put in a note to tell me who you are (I didn’t pay enough attention when the fb exchange began!). I avoid photos of myself though! I’ve even hidden some photos from my fb timeline! Vain.
(And if you are interested in it, please like my YamDaisy Cafe facebook page, my community food project, as we want lots of likes! https://www.facebook.com/YamDaisy)
It is a beautiful day here today, I hope it is beautiful where you are.
Fast Day tomorrow for me, cheers to those fasting today.
Hi all,
A lazy Sunday over here. I’m just starting to beat this cold and feel a tad better thank goodness! Lost a bit more weight as if this morning – down to 125.4. It would be a lovely Christmas miracle if I could get down to 120 by then. We head back to Hawaii the day after X-mas so it would be wonderful to look a bit better in the ‘ol bikini by then ??!
That’s a good list of red haired actresses Try try again! Thanks- will relate them to my daughter!
Cinque, your real name fits so you! I think if you as being peaceful/joyful!
Hi to everyone else & happy start to the week tomorrow!
Sherry
Good (early) Morning!
I got up with the cat at 3:30. Can you say long day? Sigh…
Heading to boot camp in a couple hours. I’ll probably be ready to fall back to sleep about the time I have to leave!
I had a very lazy weekend. I should have gone out for a walk yesterday, but instead, I sat inside reading all day. Feeling a bit “tubby” this morning as we had lasagna and garlic bread for dinner last night. That’s the most carbs I’ve had in a long time. Back on plan this morning. Still haven’t stepped on the scale. Maybe this Friday…….or maybe not! We’ll see.
Planning a very low calorie day today, more than 500, but less than 1,000 calories. I’ll burn 400-500 at boot camp. Have a great day everyone!
Hi girls,
I hope you all had a great weekend.
Lori ti is so weird that the month end is always the hardest on the beginning of the month when we all wait for the numbers.
Cinque your name is lovely!
Sherry hope the back i better and love the cinnamon oil story! LOL
Milena I need a blond pic of you or you will stay a Morticia in my mind forever.
MinnesotaMiss I have scale in my hotel room. It is of by 7 kg. I love it! And I like the fact that you have a lover not a “friend” or a “partner”. 😀
Salma dear food is so gooooood here. I am not fasting. To be honest. Until next week I am on holiday from fasting.
So….
I’m on my retreat with beautiful sunny days and tons of healing tears. Here is why. I am still doing my loving-kindness meditation but I have added forgiveness and gratitude meditation. All this in trying to find the cause f being this unkind to myself piling up all this weight and not being able to let it go.
But the most surprising thing is that at one moment you are supposed to think about what you most like about yourself and I was dumbstruck. I don’t like anything much about myself.
What do you like about yourselves? If you are like me is that the problem? Maybe before we expect any real success with 5:2 or any other WOL we need to learn to love our own body and mind, life …..
This being said I would be ostracized by anybody around me because I am supposed to be the one that made it in all that matters in todays world. But did I?
To be honest the most difficult thing is to forgive myself and let it all go. I forgave everybody else. Why can’t I forgive myself?
Sorry for being a bit philosophical but maybe there lies our problem in shedding these kilos!? We need to be loving and kind to “us”.
Love m
Hi everyone, it is early Tuesday morning here ( but not 3:30am early I am glad to say).
Makica I had to go through something similar and I found there were two layers: one was that I didn’t like anything about myself, and the other was that I felt it would be terrible to say something nice about myself, even if I could think of something nice to say. I felt that if I said anything nice I was saying I was perfect in that attribute, and if I tentatively thought of something, I immediately thought of all the times I acted the opposite! Oh dear!
Luckily it just takes a bit of practice. Your warm, interesting, and interested presence here makes me sure you can come up with a lovely list of things you like about yourself.
Salma you are right, it is very much a women’s thing, especially us mid fifties types! So glad you heard all your workmates reflecting your wonderful attributes.
Lori better give the cat some sedative! I hope you get a good sleep tonight.
I had a good Fast day yesterday, and I’m looking forward to a lovely non fast day today!
Best wishes to you all.
Hi Salma, and thanks. I am not the touchy feely hippie kind either. On the contrary. I am the tough one, the strong one who gets the things done and solves all problems. I am the Operations person. We deal with fires all the time, every day. 4 kids… 4 grandchildren 2 dogs…, career, all the degrees and titles, houses, cars…. blah blah…
And now I can’t find a thing I love about myself, have to concentrate… come up with hair, fashion style, nose, humor… jeez am I supposed to do a session on liking my thighs??? with the cellulite and all????
My late mother was not a beautiful women but she had charm and style and everybody was in love with her. She was a painter, writer, first female journalist… she was special. One day looking at me (I look like my father) she said that it must be very difficult to grow old if you were a beautiful women. I din’t understand because I never thought of myself as beautiful. I have 3 daughters. I raised them to know they are beautiful no matter what.
It is time ladies to raise ourselves as beautiful loving human beings. No matter what. Menopause is difficult enough.
Back to my sunny surroundings.
Love ya all
