  • Hi All,

Just FYI, I do post on the maintenance thread, but here also. I have no intention of stopping posts here (unless you’d like me to), but just wanted to let you know they’ll be less frequent until the end of this month or so. I wouldn’t have gotten this far without your support, and will never forget and always be thankful.

    Many thanks again,

    Jayney

No, your support means a lot to us as well and it is so nice to see how you are managing.

Many of us hope to be on maintenance as well. Perhaps not for some time……

    Stay with us Janey.

    Ginette

Absolutely Ginette! In fact, do any of you in the UK meet at all? I realize you are all probably nowhere near each other, but I was just wondering if that might happen because at some point when I am solvent enough to visit your fair country again, it might be nice to meet if that would be possible. Just a thought.

    Jayney

Janey.. yes please continue to post here.. you are an inspiration to all of us.
Tomorrow is a fast day for me. I am hoping it will be less painful than yesterday’s. From this point on, I am hoping to go back to two days fasting and staying on the straight and narrow at least most of the time.

Ginette, I know this week is a happy occasion for your family.. so heart felt congratulations.

    Good night and good morrow!

    Hi Janey

I am right in the south of England and many who post are from the north. I expect Milena is about 7/8 hours away from me by road.

A nice idea though. When you come to England it will be nice to meet up if possible. We shall all be so much slimmer then!!

    Hi Salma

I really don’t enjoy weddings, unlike most people. Yes a hope they are happy. I don’t like all the small talk and there will only be two other people from the family there. The rest are their friends. I do know one of them. But he lost his Mum last year and I know she will be pleased I am going. She will be sadly missed on this the first big occasion for him.

They have been living together for some time. I have a friend and they lived together for 18 years before getting married. They didn’t want legal complications if one of them died. I can see the sense in that.

I am sure you will soon get back on track.

    Ginette

    Fast Day 1:
9:44 am May 11 – bright spring morning in Kentucky
Food in at 8 am: 1 egg omelet with peppers and onions, nonstick skillet, no oil/butter; black coffee
    Delicious and filling!

Good morning! I’m feeling optimistic tempered by realistic! Good news on the home front is that my sweet supportive husband (SSH) and best friend (BF) Oh, go on and say it and pretend you’re 15 years old!, BFF! are beginning the 5 2 Fast with me! Support and cheers all around! Yay!

I’m a freelance writer and so work in a home office. This can work to my advantage–or not.

I continue to be encouraged and enlightened by your wonderful posts noting progress and pitfalls! I hope to be posting news of my own progress soon!

So BFF and I plan to walk later this evening (want to work toward 10,000 steps. I do have a question about exercise — Does anyone do ONLY the 3 minutes per week of High Intensity Training that Michael Mosley talks about?

Wishing all of us a wonderful day today! I feel very fortunate to have found this group!

    Pam

    Hi Pamela,

Sounds like you have got some good support on hand, good luck for your first day let us know how you get on. Good luck to hubby and best fried too!

Janey I am based in crewe near Manchester!

    Happy fasting

    Audrey

    Hi everyone,
I’m new here and could really use some support! I’m 54 and finding that losing weight (and sleeping) are both becoming extremely difficult. I’m really hoping this will help on both counts! I’m looking forward to talking more with everyone!

    Hi Tlgon

Welcome to the forum, I am sure you will get lots of advice here. Ginette is very good and has a sort of “welcome pack” full of advice I am sure she will be in touch soon. Ginette are you listening?

Don’t struggle on your own, if you get stuck with anything just shout out one of us is usually around, you are not on your own in this we are all at different stages in our journeys but we get through it together.

    Audrey

Welcome, Tigon! I am also your age )53), and was stuck for a long time at the same overweight- edness(yes, I made that word up!). I just found the Fast Diet and thank God I did! It has been 4 weeks and already down 10 lbs!

Glad to have another friend here! Everyone is so nice.

    Hi everyone..
Welcome to the new kids.. welcome Tlgon. Do give us a shout if you need help.. we are all here to help each other, and as you will find out, we ‘talk’ quite a lot 🙂 I am 54 also, and I also suffer with bad sleep, whcih started only about 5 months ago and this has been quite difficult for me to handle. Losing weight is a struggle.. it really is, but I am determined to do it; howeer, I am also giving myself plenty of time to do so as I don’t want to get disheartened and stop halfway. It is really a new way of doing it without having to change your social life or your eating habits completely.

Pamela.. I am rooting for you.. well done. Are you logging your steps? I use a fitbit to log steps (when I go through my walking phases, which is not the case at the moment.

I fasted today too. I had originally planned to have soup for dinner (nothing else the rest of the day), but I got waylaid and taken out to dinner. I did only have a quinoa salad with some grilled vegetables. A half skim cappuccino. Not really sure what it all adds up to, but from experience, I would probably say I hovered around 600 cals today with all the bits and ends, which is not perfect, but okay. My next fast day will be Thursday, or if that doesn’t work out (I may have a work dinner), it will be one of the weekend days. Social life does tend to get in the way of the best laid plans, but the beauty of the 5:2 is its flexibility.

What are you having for dinner Pamela? Your breakfast sounds like it came in at around 120 cals. Am I right?

Milena.. Where are you? You know I am a faint heart and your posts kept me going as well as amused. Come back!

Ginette.. about the My Plate app, I also did not like it too much for the scanning. When I actually need to find out the calorie content, I find the MyFitness app to be much better. Thanks for confirming.

PamelaMck, I QUIT the gym, and do about 15 minutes of hiit three times a week. That’s it! Down nearly 10 lbs in 4 weeks.

Hi fitfast.. please explain. I HATE the gym and drag myself there, and have not seen any real difference in the several months I have been going. A lot of people have written about HIT but am not quite sure how/what it is. It sounds exhausting!

    Hi Salma

Never far away, got to keep an eye on you youngsters!!! Cat heading back to health. Being her old pain in the bum self. Honestly thought she was dead Friday evening, got the house up this morning demanding breakfast, tried to jump into the bed, and has just thrown herself off the sette arm.

All those tears!!!!! And lack of sleep! Though I do think the nursing through the nights has paid off. And the Bach flower remedies.

Wrote my thoughts on another thread, about keeping on keeping on. Ladies of a certain age thread, I think. Let me know if you think its tosh!!! I waffle a lot, but rarely write anything sensible.

Hello to our new people, we’re a load of old bangers on here. With one or two supercars, everyone is willing to stop and help with breakdowns, or to keep company in laybys.

Lots of luck on your journey

Btw, another kilo down, heck I’m even rounding down. The beached whale – I mean fast beach diet – seems to be working.

Must thank Salmond, the bottle of fizz I had in to celebrate his defeat is, of course, unopened! I’ll be going to England to buy my booze soon, when they put up the minimum unit price, which will be a bugger bulk buying wine and NOT drinking it!

Not fasting today – first time ever missing a Monday, as inadvertently fasted yesterday. Though son ate my ham, so just one thing slice ham on one slice of bread, with tomatos. Even with full fat mayo that and a bowl of muesli, under 400 cams. Could be another fast day.

Going to stop writing now, waffling again

    Travel hopefully

Thanks, Audrey — yes I got some great “beginner’s advice” from Ginette a couple of days ago.

Tigon, Welcome — I am brand new, too. I signed on last week to read and learn more about 5:2 and stumbled across this lovely community of women! I’m afraid I glommed on to them immediately, feeling a kinship/sisterhood in our shared goals!

Salma: My breakfast was right at 100 — and I skipped lunch. So I’m planning on 400 for dinner. Sweet, supportive husband (SSH) is making dinner and I believe his plans are a large, fresh salad with tuna and white beans. Not sure what the count will be–he said he will calculate and then plan portions accordingly.

Fitnfast: Thanks for the info on hiit. And, go, YOU! 4 weeks – 10 lbs — that’s amazing! I am a gym-hater, too.

I planned to walk this evening and may still, but my bff just texted to say that she’s feeling very tired on this, her first fast day, and wonders if it might be better for us to plan our big walks on non-fast days. That might be a good idea. I’m drinking LOTS of water with lemon and feel only slightly hungry and tired at this point (2:30 pm). But must say that I look forward to dinner tonight! I want to do a little more research into HIIT and see if it’s something that I could do.

Yaaaay.. and she’s back.. Nice to hear from you Milena. I read your post about keeping on keeping on. I know this isn’t easy and I have been stuck at where I was a month and a half ago, but I am not sure I want to go the D way. I guess I am resting by the road for a while until I get it back together again. You have to kick my butt if I stay there too long, eh? You lost another kilo. Well done!! what a great feeling it is to see those numbers go down. Also really glad to hear that your cat is better. I am a cat person myself, and although I cannot have them around too much as I am asthmatic, I do love them. What is yours called?

Isn’t it amazing how each body is different and every person reacts differently to the same thing. This is why I do think that a “calorie is a calorie is a calorie” is actually incorrect. Even us, at different times, have reacted differently to food in terms of how much of it we kept on our hips. If it works for you to help push you over the hurdle, that’s great. What do you weigh now?

Pamela.. stick it out. The first day is a bit difficult, but you will be quite amazed how much easier it is than you initially think. There is a virtuous internal ‘glow’ that you feel when you have completed a fast day. You look forward to the next day when you can eat as you wish (within reason). Having your SSH helping out is great.. certainly a plus on your first fast day. Go to bed early tonight.. and for future fasts, I have found that it is a good idea to keep some calories for having something before sleeping (for me, it is a half glass of warm milk) so you do not dwell on being hungry, because, for me at least, I feel a bit hungry after two or three hours of having had dinner.

    Good luck!

    Hi Salma

Willow, chosen by son, a buffy the vampire fan – Buffy, willow, zander, Spike and Angel!

Other litters included Logan (Wolverine), Tea (Yu-Gi-Oh). Didn’t allow pikachu.

Think your correct about ‘a calorie is a calorie’ hard part is working it out. But you’ll get there, holidays over, now time to knuckle down, we’re going to deserve our Christmas this year!!

Evening ppl. Bad week last week: HRT malfunction meaning I absolutely couldn’t do the 2nd fast. Ate carbs instead. And chocolate. For three days. Bugger. Miraculously I only backslid to the tune of 0.4lbs and have fasted successfully today.

    Welcome Tigon, Pamela & fitnfast.

It’s late and my bed is beckoning (as are my cats… they pester me to go to bed…). Night all.

    Onward and downward.

    Hi Pam

Thanks for your post, I always believe it is so important to show the success and the pitfall. They both help other people. We are human and as such will never be able to resist some things. We just need to have the odd day like this and enjoy it.

You sound well organised. Well done, this is part of the battle. I love the fact that your husband and friend are supporting you. It is something you can share. My friends say they couldn’t do it, they really don’t understand how easy it becomes.

I look forward to seeing your journey.

    Hi Tigon

Welcome, you have cone to the right place, there is a lot to be said about a troubled shared being halved. I think this forum is a good example.

The welcome pack as Audrey calls it I have posted on here a few days ago, but also on another thread…..mostly so I can find it and add a link for people.

This is for people who are new to this. These are my experiences and as I have read, many people have similar experiences especially over the first few week. I shall post my weight loss their every 10 week. Here I post on a weekly basis. Feel free to add to this thread if you want to as it will help other people.

    The link is below:

    https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/my-10-week-weight-loss-week-by-week/#post-90205

Good luck on your first few days.

Keep posting, it will keep you strong!!

    Hi Audrey

Yes sorry I was listening – but I was out until late, I was still reading but prefer to reply on iPad as the phone is too small.

    Hi Salma

Yes I have stopped using my plate now. My fitness pal seems to be the best I can find at the moment.

I shall try to find the short videos I had posted before. There was a programme on it a couple of months ago. It is really interesting.

I exercise to tone as well as to help with weight loss, so I do about 1 1/2 – 2 hours a week. Not an awful lot but quite energetic. I don’t really like the gym although I may start to go once a week for muscle strengthening exercises. It is only £2 an hour locally with a leisure card, so a bargain.

There is an intructor why can suggest a programme. As I have often had knee injuries, it is more about leaving the best way how to avoid these. He will know I am only guessing.

    Hi Milena

I see you are in full flow on the forum today, must be feeling good. A kilo is a good loss and as you say you have lost a bit more …..so maybe 3lbs.

Give Willow a kiss from me.

    Hi Firehorse

Nice to see you here. Not a good week then, but a brilliant outcome and that gained weight will be lost next week. You are probably tucked up with your cats now.

Have a good week all, have a good day tomorrow for the falters.

    Ginette

    Good evening, all!

End of Fast Day 1 for me:
Began to feel some hunger and fatigue around 4 in the afternoon. I drank lots of water and that helped.

I had a salad with tuna and white beans and with the minimal oil, it came it around 375 – so with breakfast – I stayed just under 500. I think I’ll take the advice of someone who posted on here and said, “Go to bed, early!”

    Hi Pam

It may be early for you. But here it is 2.40 am and I am just heading there. I had a couple hours in the chair earlier as I had acupuncture and the first time is tends to make me sleepy.

Well done, it is nice to get the first one over and done with. I am not a breakfast person so have a late lunch, normally melon if I want anything on fast day lunch. But I usually save it all for dinner and have a nice satisfying dinner and this afterwards. The longer the fasting window the better. So often I go from 9 pm the night before to 8pm on fast days. I do however always have cups of tea (built into allowance).

The second one will be easier.

By the way all if you don’t get it delivered the fast diet newsletter has just come out. You can find it under the tracker, top right. Just click on browse archive.

    Night all.

    Ginette

I have just seen plus size blouses plain at Lidls this Thursday size 18 – 24. If you are going down through the sizes very affordable in pink, white, blue and I think black.

    Now I really am going……….

    Good morning all..
Fast day yesterday. Weigh in at 88 Kg this morning. Those scales won’t, just won’t, go below this 88 mark! However, I am happy that the trend is down after the up/down month or so. I would like to be at at 85 or 84 by the end of June (which is not a crazy target) but the scales really need to start moving. Do you think I should give them a good talking to? Threaten that if they don’t sort themselves out, I will chuck them out and get new ones? That might work.

Pamela.. really well done. The first day is the hardest. It really DOES get easier, and Ginette is right, after you have got used to it, it would be an idea to try to stretch the fasting period for around 20-24 hours at a stretch. Apparently, this makes the 5:2 work better that way because it releases the hormones that assist weight loss in a more efficient way. Well done and welcome on board.

Firehorse.. as I mentioned above, I have been trying to stay ‘put’, as it were, for a while as I have had a vacation and a whole series of social and work events. Indulging every so often is almost inevitable. Chalk it up to experience and get back int eh – ever so gentle – race.

Have a great day everyone.. I am off to have a decent breakfast (Pamela.. you will enjoy this today.. every mouthful tastes 10 times better after a fast day 🙂 )

    Pamela,

Congratulations on doing your first fast successfully, I find it easier to not eat at all on a fast day until my evening meal just drink water then I have calories left if I need them before bed! I know others do the same, it may work for you.

    Audrey

    Hi Salma

I am really sorry for your lack of loss. It is difficult like this. I really think it is back to basics. The bast thing to kickstart…….and I’m really sorry to say in, is what Milena, Jaye and I did. FBD. I know Jaye was always a big loser (meant in the nicest way but sounds like an insult) but Milena and I weren’t. The two weeks with only half a pound loss made up my mind to join Milena.

It has really kickstarted me again.

This article was interesting. Although if you go on FBD this will tailor your eating into good things. Maybe worth a try for two or three weeks if you can’t face six. Referring to this article, you either have to be strict or keep an eye on calories. This maybe the reason the FBD works as well. No Junk. Treats by another name.

I am happy to work on a FBD format for a couple of weeks longer to keep you company, although I may allow myself restricted treats. We have two weeks to go after this week. It seems according to this that junk food is more of an enemy than first thought. Dark chocolate apart according to the article.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3077507/Everything-think-know-diets-wrong.html

    Pam

I agree that food after fast days, especially in the beginning taste better than before. You may get the need for carbs, this happens to a lot as it did for me. This does sort itself out. Have a nice non fast day today. I enjoy them both.

    Ginette

    Ok all,

    Time to fez up!

It seems to have been a difficult week for everyone, nowt worse than someone who seems to be doing well giving advice, being full of beans and losing, without much effort. Can pull y’all along a bit, but might also do the opposite.

Salma, you might remember I wobbled a little after my break, but while I did a bit of moaning, the weight steadily came off.

Well, this was a difficult week for me.

Yes, Ive been the goody two shoes, any treats are within my TDEE, I probably carry the record on this thread for the number of fasts in a week, and Im anal about calorie counting. Not had pasta this year, perhaps two spoonfuls of rice and my beloved ciabatta is a distant memory.

So its only fair to let y’all know that I had a meltdown in the supermarket on Sunday! Asked other half what he fancied to go with the chicken. Guacamole, wraps, any suggestions. ‘Just veg will be fine’. This quite reasonable suggestion put him in the doghouse for a day, me in bed for 20 hours.

I couldn’t face another vegetable. In my life!

Being a woman, I fumed internally for an hour, then exploded. Why, I dont know, but I broke a courgette in half and stamped on it. That scared the rest of the veggies, which by the way, I had bought. The onions were crying, the leeks were wetting themselves, so were the peas, the garlic was crushed and the spinach wilted. I could go on………but the strawberries would give me the pip, the rasperries would be crushed, the salads would go limp and the artichockes would say ‘have a heart’!

I scare myself when I get in full rant, OH makes lots of tea, son finds things to do, hence the clean bathroom.

I ranted that I was meant to be fat, was too old to be thin, too much bloody hard work anyway, it would all be back soon and I intended to eat myself there, while I hunted for chocolate!!!!

The moral of this cautionary tale is

1 find a man who isnt concerned enough about your rants to argue

2 Be prepared to give up – even once a week if necessary.

3 If giving up go go bed, without food.

4 be kind to veggies, they have feelings too.

5 Dont keep chocolate in the house, this one is important – I might not be here now if I had found chocolate!!!!!

    Hi Milena

How I laughed….. Yes no 4 is important.

As you know it has just worked out that even on FBD I have had one meal a week that is an event. Maybe one meal a week will keep you going, it seems to have worked for me. I still lose weigh and quite good amounts, don’t feel bad, talk to your veg and apologise and you and the veg will feel better.

No good keeping it all in your system. Let it out.

You have had really strict days. Me I have in target days and my treats have changed to melon and strawberries and yoghurt. I consider these a treat. Have chips if you want them one day a week. I am still curious to try Parmesan chips. I used to make chips by butting potatoe into chips, boiling in half a stock cube for 5 mins and then finishing in the over in fry light. These were nice, but I am intrigued about the Parmesan ones that I was going to have tossed in truffle oil and then cooked in the over. I need to go but Parmesan and truffle oil…..and even potatoes as I don’t have them in the house now.

I always eat them on a Sunday, when I am not at home I then may eat potato wedges during the week.

I don’t know if you have Toby caveries where you are. They do some lovely herby potatoes, they have just started them.

Good luck for this week. A meal out will do you the power of good.

    Ginette

    Milena,

Where do I start, what a post OMG!

You have literally had me crying with laughter, I am sat on my own with 2 dogs looking at me like I have gone mad, good job no one can see in I think they would send me to the funny farm!

It appears that this week has been the downfall of many of us, so much so that there is no more room in the naughty corner I think perhaps a refresher course in 5 2 may be in order for some of us!

I hope your husband and son have recovered and you have given the fruit and vegetables a good Christian send off!

Perhaps though you may have a point about the chocolate I have it in for my husband (he is slim) but I do tend to sneak into the kitchen stealth wise and help myself to the odd piece or 6! Perhaps it’s time for him to go cold turkey too and ban the sweetie drawer!

    Any replies?

    Audrey

    Hi Audrey

Of course, the last word went to the courgette, lying smashed on the floor in two halves!

“have zucchini the state of me, this bloody WOE has made me half what I once was”!

Ill stop now while Im ahead of lettuce!

Oh Milena! You are a hoot! Count me in among those laughing out loud!

My morning plans were scuttled as we had a power outage this morning. Power was off from 4:25AM until 6:15AM. I couldn’t be expected to go for a run without being able to have a cup of coffee first, could I? Once the lights came on, I quickly made a cup of coffee & hit the shower. Up to the hospital lab for my blood test and now I’m in my office with another cup of coffee. No breakfast so far even though it’s an eating day. I’m waiting until I feel hungry and then I have some lovely Greek yogurt here that will taste yummy.

Running home at lunch time to throw together a Mexican dish in the crock pot. It has chicken, black beans, corn, tomatoes etc etc. I plan to eat mine rolled up in a tortilla, but the husband may elect to have his over rice. Will make enough for lots of leftovers. Husband is going away this weekend with some friends to a cabin in the woods, so I’ll happily stay home and eat my Mexican tortilla roll ups!

    Have good days my friends!

    Good morning everyone,
Thanks for the warm welcome. You guys are too funny! I love reading your posts. My first fast day is today, but after reading how many of you do it on Mondays, I may change next week. I think I will spend some time today cleaning out the refrigerator and doing some maintenance type things. I should take my measurements and maybe dare to take some dreaded “before” pictures.
Just so everyone will know a little about me, my hubby and I recently moved to a new state for his employment, so I feel a bit like I’m on a deserted island (moved from a large city to a tiny town). So, I’m trying to rediscover myself I guess. Right now during the day it’s just me and the doggies. I’m a 7 hour drive away from my grand babies and adult children. So, having said all that, it’s nice to be making some new friends and I will not have myself feeling sorry for myself.
I have recently started a little herb garden and I’m excited to see some of the fruits of my labor (albeit very little labor and probably very little fruit/veggies as well). I am a short (5’2″) and chunky vegetarian; I do love my sweet treats.
I love hearing about all of you and I look forward to getting to know everyone better. I will probably jump on here throughout the day and tell you that I’m starving! I’m a bit scared, not sure why.
Oh, I do exercise regularly. I do the Total Gym on M/W/F and HITT on T/TH. On the days I do the total gym, I also walk about 50 mins on the treadmill afterwards so I can watch my shows (right now I’m watching Mad Men and my walk goes SO fast). Unfortunately, exercise doesn’t do it alone. My hand to mouth habit is my demise!
Anyway, that’s about it for me for now. Wish me luck today in this new adventure. I’m sure I’ll need it!!
    Blessing ALL. 🙂

Hi again….I just wanted to share this with you all. I thought it looked so yummy and I’m always looking for an easy, make ahead jar salad. If you haven’t done jar salads yet….it will change your life, seriously. I love them (and I was never a big salad eater before). In this one, I substitute the chicken for the Gardien meatless Chicken Tenders…Yum!!

    Hi Tlgon,

Fear not I am also fasting, I too am 5 ft 2 in I weigh 152lb now, I was 174 lb in January. Keep busy try not to obsess over food and if you need me just shout out.

Happy fasting and good luck for today

    Audrey

Thanks Audrey! We have a lot in common. I’m right about where you started. I had really hoped to be where you are by now. Life just seems to get in the way. No more excuses!! Glad I found you guys. Any helpful advice is always appreciated.

    Hi Tigon

Never seen this type of thing before thank you it looks really good. From the fact that you have moved states I take it you are in the USA.

Sad to move away from family. You will have to adopt us as forum friends and you won’t feel so alone. Lots of really nice people here. A big sense of belonging. Better than any standard slimming club.

Enjoy your garden. What state are you in now?

    Ginette

    Hi Tigon,

    I’m quite tall 5ft 2.75 inches. Sometimes I can stretch to 5ft 3in. Lol!

About 169lbs, cant read lbs on scales without getting off them – was 201lbs in January. A few of us here for the long haul. But with kindred spirits and kind friends, it’s an enjoyable journey.

    Hi Ginette,
Yes in the US. We are in Missouri now. Not loving it. We were in Dallas Texas before. Soooo miss Texas. Thank you for the warm welcome.
Milena I’m right there with you. You guys are all doing so great!!!

    Hello gals,

Welcome Tigon.. nice to have you onboard. I hope your first day went well. The first time you fast is difficult, but it gets a lot easier as you continue. Hang around here, there is a lot of help and encouragement. You can moan all you want, we all do it. Commiserate with the defeats and celebrate the successes of each other.

Milena.. wow! I was in stitches.. Girl.. you have a gift. You really should write. Just think, if you start now, by the time you have to do the promotional tours, you will be slim and sleek. Think about it my friend. You have at least 10 people here who would happily buy your book/watch your show 🙂 and poor veggies.. poor courgette.. I am not so sure they are enjoying the new WOL.. You have been really tough on yourself lately (not to mention on the veggies). Honestly, I would go and have a big McFlurry (I know they are a favourite) and just re-start next day. Occasional indulgence is food for the soul, I say.

Today, I had an appointment with my doctor. He was a lot nicer to me than the stupid scales. He told me I look like I have lost quite a bit of weigh (I haven’t.. it is only about 10 lbs or so) but it was nice that SOMEONE noticed. I know we have had this conversation before, but it does give you a boost, doesn’t it? I know I have gone up and down, but I am not worried. I have visitors till Saturday (yes, it has been a very busy time for me recently) and have to travel for work next week for 4 days, which is a challenge. This week, I am invited out every single day of the week except Sunday. I have managed to fast one day, but am wondering when I can fit in the second day of fasting. Maybe Sunday. What do you guys think of two half day fasts. Do they add up to a one day fast? Recently, there has been too much socializing.. too much of a good thing, eh?

Have a great one. See you all tomorrow.

hello fellow fifties! I have been reading you all this past week as I embarked on week one 184 to 181 lb. so thanks for your humour and inspiration. I hope to get back down to 150. For you wonderfully crazy Brits that would be from 84 to 68 kg and don’t ask me to translate into stones!
I am 58, 5’6”, from British Columbia, more pear than apple, and my weight has been creeping up especially since 50 and menopause. A breast cancer diagnosis last fall has made it worse [ok I confess initially I was rather secretly a tad thrilled with the possibility of weight loss….. one tries to find silver linings] — but that did not happen! Instead a winter of inactivity on chemo and stress eating and wine drinking [a cast iron stomach meant no nausea:) ] and now a medication Letrozole that seems to recreate menopause symptoms all over again and makes me look at carbs with lusty abandon. The plan is to do surgery in June.
Hoping to continue the 5/2 until goal reached ….. I can’t do a no food type of fast day as I need to have food with my meds, so tried mini breakfast and dinner and that was ok so far.

    Evening ppl.
Phoebe, welcome. And hang in there (hormone manipulation sucks but it’s done for the very best of reasons…. and it’s not forever).

Just for the record, not in my fifties (yet). 48 and holding (until the end of June when I’ll have to concede to 49).

For those unfamiliar with UK weight measurement: http://www.metric-conversions.org/weight/pounds-to-stones.htm

Well, my desperately I’ll, dying, pitiful little cat, for who I’ve given up weeks of sleep, and for whom I’ve cried buckets, has just been chasing a spider around the living room.

She’s deaf, and the second stroke badly affected her eyesight, so we thought until she spotted the spider.

If course, I’m taking all the credit.

Just found a weight diary I started at the beginning of the year. Interesting reading. Target for 31 May was 12st 13lb. Nearly at 12st. Never beaten a weight loss target before. Frankly cos I’ve never lasted this long before.

    Hi Phoebe

welcome. There are a lot if us here to keep you company! Gusty lady, love that you look for a silver lining. Tigon, sorry you are missing Texas, I’m beginning to miss England, and I’m less than an hour from the border, in Scotland.

Salma, glad your weight loss was noticed. Going in the right places then? If you’re sure about 10 buyers, I’ll get an agent! Lol!

    Hi Tigon

Awful to leave somewhere that you love, I do hope you settle in where you are, it is often tge people who make all of the difference.

    Hi Salma

Well done on getting noticed. It must be nice. Enjoy your visitors.

    Hi Phoebe

Nice to see you here. Yes I’m a pear as well. I am so sorry to hear about your health problems, I can only imagine how difficult it is to cope with what you have been through.

We will help you all we can, yes we are sometimes a bit mad and mist definitely eccentric. We have a colourful mixture of people and the different cultures are nice as well.

We will answer any questions, listen to any moans and push and pull you when needed.

    Hi Firehorse

    Hi Milena

I am pleased your cat is back to her catlike ways. This will give you some rest and allow you to recuperate. Glad she can still see spiders.

That’s great to beat a target and be SO much under it SO early. No after about three months I am normally getting bored as they don’t seem to work long term for me. I did slimming world and was told I could eat all the carbs I wanted on one day without meat and lose weight. Did I lose……..no chance. I had some lovely meals and actually gained!! This was by following the rules.

This way is the way for me.

I was told that my shoulders look narrower….is that a compliment? I am just hoping the weightloss Harry’s and moves down a bit more at least to my waist and below.

Well it will happen one day.

Hi Tigon – I hope you have taken lots of before pics and measured everywhere. You will so enjoy looking back on them as the fat melts away. What is Missouri like? Is it just that you prefer city life? I would agree with that, I like having lots to do, lots of choices. Of course we are all familiar with “Dallas” who else had a “who shot J.R.” mug? I was obsessed with that show back in the day.

Welcome phoebe on which lake? Have you read “the C-word” by Lisa Lynch, I believe it is recommended reading for breast cancer patients in the UK. Your cast iron stomach must be a help with chemo even if it doesn’t help shedding the pounds. I have always looked at carbs with lusty abandon and I think I always will, we just have to keep the portion sizes down. Easier said than done I know 🙂

Lori – your Mexican roll ups sound delish!

Milena – lovely to hear you have nursed Willow back to health. You really are hilarious, in a good way, love your humour.

Salma – lots of socialising here too, some neighbours have these properties as holiday homes and more and more of them are arriving now.

Ginette – Narrow shoulders? well at least people are starting to notice.

My liquids only fast yesterday was easy peasy, I didn’t even want my evening bovril. The scales this morning are telling me a ridiculous story, which I am taking with a large pinch of salt. I know that as soon as I eat they will revert to a more normal figure.
On the menu today is porridge, humus with red pepper, carrot and onion sticks for dinner, then BBQ spare ribs with jacket potato and salad for tea. Oh and lets not forget, vino tinto 🙂

Cheers everyone, have a great day!

I have weighed in and have lost the 2lb I gained last week.

I am going to Wales until Sunday, stuck in a caravan in rain that is going to severely test my resolve!

I failed at the FBD didn’t manage 2 days without chocolate although it was only a couple of buttons!

Have a good weekend all, happy fasting

    Audrey

    Good Morning All!

So lovely to “see” new faces here! I’d have to take notes to remember each of you and comment accordingly, so let me just say Welcome! Glad you are here!

It’s 4:45AM and I’m having a cup of coffee before heading to boot camp. Wonder what today’s torture will be? 😉 We have a lot of new people just starting this week, so the studio is a bit crowded. I remember when I first started a couple years ago and there would be 6 or 8 of us in the morning. Now we have 30-40!!

My Mexican chicken had a great flavor, but was too soupy. I need to cut the liquid the next time. Also, the block of cream cheese that you just put on top, broke, if you know what I mean. It tasted good, but didn’t look the best with the lumps of cream cheese. I think I would let that out next time and just put sour cream on the side when I eat it. The chicken was very tender and I look forward to the leftovers.

Out for dinner tonight, so no fasting for me today.

    Have good days!

    Hi Audrey

Ahhh that’s the secret you see to get over reaching for the treats, that when it works a treat!! When I ate the Easter eggs although I wasn’t over calories allowed I only lost half a lb. on the FBD it has really increased weight loss.

I too felt a craving the day after I ate an ice cream, I also had chips on this day, only a few but both carbs. On Friday a will have gnocchi with my fish made with potato and flour and Eton mess. So I am half expecting this to happen on Saturday which may be a fast day for me, I’m not sure yet.

Interesting, that carb argument. I find the way our bodies respond fascinating.

    Hi Lori

Boot camp has really increased in number, is that good?

    Ginette

    Hi ginette

The game has arrived will look at it when I come home from van on Sunday.

    Have a great weekend everybody

    Audrey

    Ginette

Im trying to buy a hula hoop, crumbs they ain’t wot they were!!! When I was a girl they were just bits of plastic, now its magnets and weights. Does anyone on here use them, if so I would appreciate advice on what to buy.
