  • Hi team,

I had my spleen removed late last year. I’m looking into fasting and have had a search for any information on fasting without a spleen, have had very little luck finding any information.

Would be great if anyone has any information or advice on this?

    Thanks in advance

    Joel

I think the only safe answer to your question is – please see your doctor before starting. We can give opinions but we aren’t qualified to give you medical advice.

I have chronic health conditions and have always had GP support and monitoring for weight loss – it’s important.

    Hi Joel,

The function of the spleen is to fight infection and filter old or damaged cells from the blood. If it is removed, the liver takes over.
If you had it removed due to a medical condition then you should contact your specialist and ask, if it was due to trauma you could check with your GP.

    Hi team,

I had my spleen removed due to trauma. I just wondered if you have any more information about whether it’s ok to fast without a spleen?

    Many Thanks

    Molly
