  • Quacka, great job. Keep going, good for you. I managed to put in another FD on Sunday in between social engagements. Keeping under 60kg so I’m very pleased.

Cinque, yes, I was wondering about LJ. She uses the forum as a personal food diary to keep herself accountable so I’m hoping she’s doing OK.

    GDSA, lost posts are frustrating.

    Morning all

Well, I don’t know where that came from, but I was up a kilo this week at my weigh in. I’ve been keeping pretty consistent with my eating, no binges, no excessive sugar or starchy carbs. It’s a weird one. Our bodies can be so frustrating sometimes when they randomly decide to pile on weight for no reason.

Neil, that’s annoying. Big loss next week let’s hope.

    Good Morning Everyone

Thanks Neil and thin! I’m on my second FD for the week and still feeling very positive although there was no jogging this morning lol. I did go to the gym though so I’ve done some exercise for today.

Neil, don’t worry about that 1kg. I’m guessing it’s just water weight – sometimes we hold on to a little extra water depending on foods we have eaten. You said you have been feeling a bit stuffy, it could just be your body responding to that. Yes, our bodies are sometimes strange, inconsistent and inexplicable. Next week I bet you lose more than you expect!

Thin, you are always an inspiration with your dedication to fasting and how you don’t let anything get in the way of it. Under 60kg is great!

G’day please don’t let those lost posts stop you from posting. I understand how frustrating it is though. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi to everyone else reading and not posting. Remember it’s ok to just say a quick hi if you like. Hope you are all ok xx

    Hi everyone

I can’t believe how quickly time flies, even when not working. I am determined to fill my days with productive tasks and do all those things I moan about not getting time for. This entails deep cleaning in the back of cupboards etc, decluttering, exercise and lots of cooking of healthy meals. My weigh loss is back on track and heading nicely in the right direction

I have an interview tomorrow that I am quite hopeful about. It came via a connection which makes sense. I read articles every day saying that you can apply for 100 jobs but 80% of the time you will find another job via someone you know. Fingers crossed!

Bali sounds absolutely divine Lindsay and yay for your cozzie fitting so nicely

I hear you Neil, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for the scales misbehaving but as you know if you stick to it the results will come

Your day out in the winery sounds beautiful Thin. I too am terrified of sharks so rarely swim in the ocean – and even then only in the shallows. My niece has taken up ocean swimming racing in the past 18 months and my heart is in my mouth each time she is racing. Ugh

Quacka you are going to be fit, slim and fabulous for your holiday. Yay!!

I hope your legs are feeling better Cinque

Sorry for your lost posts G’day, it is SO frustrating

Ok I need to do some interview prep so will say bye for now and let you know how it goes tomorrow

    Hi Everyone

Thanks Anzac xx Hope your interview goes well for you today. I’m thinking of you

76.9 kg this morning after FD yesterday. That’s 3kg gone since I restarted so I’m very happy. I’m hoping tomorrow is a bit further down as last week I was 400g lighter on the day after the day after FD lol (so FD Wednesday, lightest on Friday)

    Just going to keep going.

Have a great weekend everyone xx

Quacka, it’s so highly motivating to see the weight falling away. Well done. Thanks for your kind words. I will never forget how all consuming and depressing it was to be overweight and that’s what keeps me motivated never to return to those days.

Anzac, I hope that interview went well. Of course it did. Who wouldn’t want you? We had a laugh yesterday. DD had applied for a volunteer job in Bhutan with a charity castrating macaques. She has plenty of castration experience, a wildlife background and experience volunteering in a vet capacity in Africa, India and NW Australia. The charity did at least have the decency to reply but specified that applicants must have experience in castrating macaques! Good luck with that. Amusing that they want a vet to work for several months with no pay, airfares, or any help whatsoever, operate in very challenging conditions, yet think they’ll find one with experience castrating a specific breed of monkey!

Good morning everyone from me and my delicious coffee.

Thin, oh dear, op shops can make it hard to donate.
Hooray for fitting in fast days between social events. And for keeping your healthy weight as a priority. So key.
My mind is boggling at DD’s lack of macaque castration expertise for that volunteer job. Partly wondering what was so particular about castrating macaques, but also… do they really have 6 months work of castrating macaques??? How does that work? Do randy macaques wander streets causing trouble there?

Anyway, I really really hope you are more successful in your job application/interview Anzac. I am lighting a candle to keep my good wishes flowing to you. You are so right that it is personal connections that get you the jobs that fit best and more likely to get when someone you know is involved somewhere along the line.

My legs are fine now thankyou!

Gday, what on earth happened to your posts? I really hope you don’t give up. Maybe copy and paste for a few times and then hopefully everything will behave properly again? Lots of good wishes anyway.

Quacka, so lovely to see you working hard and successfully. So lovely to end the summer healthier and fitter and looking particularly gorgeous, and comfortable, in your clothes.

Neil, I hope it was hayfever and just a brief attack, or that you have some good meds. Ooh yum those pears and plums!
I bet that kilo blip will be a quick one. Hooray for avoiding those extra carbs, you are surely on track.

Hello Lindsay, Cali, LJoyce, Turn and anyone else reading. I’m off to light that candle. Cheers all.

Thought I had better show my face after stalking you all for so long.

Lovely to hear all your news, and I’m so glad I’m not the only one not managing to lose any weight at present. I’m not sure my head is really in the correct space at the moment, my father is back in hospital in the UK, and after finally getting a diagnosis from the Drs. of a cancerous tumor entering the kidney, enduring lots of intravenous medication/antibiotics and a blood transfusion, he has at last regained his appetite, his humour and some of his strength. Enough for him to be sitting in the chair when my mother visited him yesterday, the first time since she can’t remember when! Only to have a fall getting back into bed and now he is booked in for surgery tomorrow to pin his hip! Bugger. He’s feeling very sorry for himself, I think his pride is more damaged than anything else.

Our house build has been put back a month due to a few minor tweaks with the architect and engineer reports, but the first timbers went up yesterday, yay! We have signed off on the final kitchen plans and they have a three week lead time, so as we are away from house-sitting again through May, we won’t be having it shifted on to the site until we return in June. It seems such a long time away but I know how quickly that time will fly by. We are currently back in Christchurch sitting our friends’ house, dogs, cat, goldfish, chickens, sheep and cows! At least we have free rein of the orchard apples and pears, so like you Neil I shall be busy with those next week.

Hopefully I’ll get through our busy social events over the next three /four days and start concentrating a bit harder on getting my weight down again. I’ve only put on a couple of kilos, but it’s just so easy for them to grow into more?!

I have added a picture of the latest house to be delivered on site, it’s the same shape and size as ours but ours will be a slighter different color steel and wood.
    https://imgur.com/a/kdA9NUU

Speak again soon, keep well everyone, Turn.

Cinque, I’m sorry I missed the post about your legs. But glad they are OK now.

Macaques, well it will be a population control initiative, either numbers out of control or spreading disease or similar. Clearly, the charity isn’t run by vets or they’d understand that a vet’s training enables them to apply their knowledge and experience of one species to problem-solve complex issues with another. And that’s one reason vets volunteer – to gain that experience. I expect they hire a team of locals to catch the macaques. That’s what happened when DD was volunteering with a UK vet charity to help eradicate rabies in India. Here’s a fun video she made of it if you have 90 seconds to spare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSaHtlBUDLM

Turn, what a treat to hear from you. Sorry to read about your dad. Tricky when you’re so far away. That tiny house is so cool. I wish I could see inside although, since your previous post on the topic, I have looked at many of them. Tesla have some very innovative solutions to transport, delivery, set-up and so on. They’re like flat packs being opened up and assembled.

Sorry, all a bit off topic, eh?

    Hi friends

Thanks for the good wishes but the interview (and job) was cancelled late Wednesday afternoon. Apparently the business pushed back on the project team about hiring any more resources. Poor Mr A came home from grocery shopping to find me having a total blubbery meltdown on the couch with Maxx sitting on my feet looking very anxious

But new light at the end of the tunnel, yesterday the only other BA on the project rang to say they are pushing back as they simply cannot meet the deadlines without more resources. We had a Teams chat and she was so lovely and positive and said she is going to push hard before I find something else (ha) as ‘good people are hard to find, even in a tough market’. So that was really lovely to hear and I have regained my positivity. Sort of

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad Turn, and it must be so hard being on the other side of the world. I hope his hip surgery goes well and he is back to feeling better again soon. Good luck with the house build too

Given the tough market with so many unemployed Macaque castrationers (new word), I’m not surprised your DD could not get a look-in for the volunteer job Thin. Seriously though, what a joke. I wish them luck

A calendar reminder just popped up to say it is LJ’s birthday. If that is correct Happy Birthday LJ if you are reading

Haha Cinque, I now have a vision of randy Macaques wandering the streets of Bhutan 🙂

I am down from a high of 96.1 post holiday to 93 so chip chip chipping away. I want to get back into the 80’s asap so will grit my teeth (so that I can’t get food through them) and get there

    take care all

Anzac, I enjoyed your humorous post despite the disappointing news on the work front. Food van in Queensland. Nudge, nudge. Off with those holiday kgs! Woot, good job.

I had a Friday FD this week due to an invitation to dinner at friends’ place tonight and lunch out with other friends tomorrow. I’d have rather done the FD on Monday but feared more social events might arise and I’d miss the opportunity. 59.3kgs.

Several of our male friends have put on quite a bit of weight since we last saw them 5 years ago. I’ve been walking with my former walking buddy in Kings Park. She always struggled with her weight but is now very heavy and has a lot of knee pain. It feels good to be bucking the trend as we age.

Yes, what has happened to LJ?

    Morning all.

We’ve definitely hit Autumn over here. On Sunday we had a hot sunny day at 27 degrees, yesterday was pouring rain and 16 degrees, then when I got up this morning, we were down to single digits.

Turn, great to hear from you again. What part of Christchurch are you in where they have enough room for sheep, cows and chickens?

Anzac, hopefully the BA can pull some strings and get you sorted with a position, good luck

Thin, I hope you had a good catch-up with your friends, sounds like you’re having a nice social trip.

Quacka and Cinque, I hope you’re both well, and everyone else lurking.

One of my friends posted a fundraiser for the starship foundation (children’s hospital over here) called “Kilometres for kids” where you walk 75km or bike 300km during March to raise money for their air ambulance. I decided to help her out by joining up, since I easily ride the 300kms, I pushed the goal out to 500kms. I don’t know how they go with donations from overseas, but if anyone feels like throwing a few dollars towards the cause, my page is here: https://kilometresforkids.org.nz/neil-morey

weigh-in tomorrow. I have no idea how this one is going to go, I thought last week was going to be a good one, and I ended up going up a kilogram. I had a control day yesterday of around 1300 calories, and I’m planning on doing a fast day today of 800 calories and I’ll see how I get on.

Thin I actually dreamed about us living in Magnetic Island last night and we were so happy. I think it is a sign. However until I turn 60 (December) and can take my super it can’t happen yet and if we fly through our savings now we may need to delay even more. Still no news on the job front

I can’t fathom riding 300km Neil, let along 500km. I can’t believe the weight is not shedding off you. Good luck with your weigh-in tomorrow, may it be a huge loss for you

Autumn has hit today here too; there is a cool breeze but still very muggy if you are away from it. We were unprepared for a drenching downpour whilst walking Maxx this morning and got soaked. The garden is singing

We had some shocking news a few days ago. Mr A’s best mate had a massive heart attack but luckily they live only a few streets from the hospital so his wife was able to get him there within a few minutes and they saved him. He is only 59. They put a stent in the blocked artery and he is home and doing really well. It makes you stop and think when these things happen. He is not overweight but eats a lot of takeaway and smokes. I hope he makes some lifestyle changes

    Have a great day all

    Hi Everyone

Day in between FDs for me today and boy oh boy am I working off my food! I am so busy at work with all the gorgeous Winter stock pouring in (120 cartons to process today if I can!). I also joined a challenge at the gym to walk 96km during March to help support Soldier On which aims to prevent veteran suicides. It’s 12:30 pm and I have almost done 13000 steps already. If we make the 96km, the gym will donate $10 for every participant and there are around 85 people signed up for it.

Good on you Neil, for joining in the Starship Foundation fundraiser. I’m sure you will complete it easily.
I think you will see a good change downwards in your weight this week. I have been looking up why our weight fluctuates so much and found an interesting article in the Apple news on my phone. I’ll try and work out how to copy and paste it in another message, but it puts it very simply and just reminds us of how many things influence that pesky number on the scale. The manager of the gym always mentions that the scale is only a measure of gravity on our body but I’d still like to see my measure of gravity being a smaller number!!

I had a great FD yesterday, not eating anything until dinner time and didn’t even feel hungry at all. It’s amazing what keeping busy can do to distract me from thinking, over thinking, about food! However, I was so hungry in bed last night that I almost got up in the middle of the night to go and eat something. I had a decent dinner but my tummy was gurgling and carrying on all night. I felt nice and light this morning though so it was worth it.

Anzac, a bit of a bummer about the job hey? I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason so I hope that you get to see what that reason is soon. You’re doing well with your weight loss too! Just keep going, that’s my motto 🙂
So scary about Mr A’s friend. 59 is so young and I also hope he makes a few lifestyle changes. The small changes can add up as we all know.

Hi thin and Turn, Cinque and Cali too. Hope you’re all doing well.

I’m off to go start the next lot of stock. I’ll also try and post that article.

    Chat soon xx

    https://apple.news/AYOuL1k9uQyaF0l89iqRZ2g

This is the link, but I think you need to have an apple device for it to work

I’ve copy and pasted the main part of the story below. It’s from the BBC Science Focus magazine and the title is “How much weight fluctuation is normal?”

    1. WATER
About 60 per cent of your body is water, so things like a salty dinner or high-carb meal can cause water retention and influence your weight. Hormonal changes, especially around your period, can also cause fluid retention. These fluctuations are usually temporary and will resolve themselves in a day or two.

    2. FOOD
When you eat, food has to travel through your digestive system, and that journey adds weight until it leaves you. So, if you’ve eaten a big meal late at night, the scales might reflect that in the morning. It’s important to remember that this is not an increase in fat, but simply the natural process of digestion.

    3. EXERCISE
You might notice that your weight drops after a sweaty gym session. Sadly, that’s more likely due to water loss rather than fat loss. On the flip side, if your muscles are repairing from a workout, they may hold onto water as part of the recovery process. This can make you heavier temporarily. Over time, increased muscle mass can add to body weight, even as fat decreases, so the scale might not reflect fat loss accurately.

    4. BOWELS
If you’re a bit constipated, or weigh yourself just before or after a bowel movement, you’re likely to notice that fluctuation on the scales too. keeping hydrated and making sure you have adequate fibre in your diet can help maintain regular digestion and reduce variability.

    5. ALCOHOL
Alcohol dehydrates you, which can lead to temporary weight loss. But your body is likely to overcompensate for this by retaining water the next day

Hope this helps someone today xx

Cheers Quacka, I knew most of those, but I didn’t know about the muscles retaining water after exercise, or our bodies holding on to more water after consuming alcohol. I don’t drink much, only 2 drinks on a Friday night, but I’m definitely exercising a lot.

    Hi Everyone

It’s second FD of the week and 10:30am. Honestly I am struggling today. Feeling hungry and the cafe next door keeps cooking bacon – that smell is tantalising at the best of times and more so on a FD!!! Please stop lol

I was at my lightest so far this morning 76.6kg and that was after a non FD. I am hoping to break well into the 75’s tomorrow and that will make my hunger worth it today. Will let you know.

Yes Neil, I also know all these things but still allow the weight fluctuations to get to me sometimes! I too didn’t know about muscles holding water after exercise though. I’m definitely exercising a lot at the moment too, in the gym and running around at work. One plus out of this is last night I actually got a decent sleep which is a rare thing for me.

Anyway better get back to work. Stock is pouring in still.

Hope you’re all doing well today xx

    Hello everyone,

Thinking of you Lindsay and glad you live on a hill (if I remember rightly). I do hope your friends and family will all be safe through the cyclone. And the same to any others here with connections in the area. Fingers crossed and all good wishes.

Turn, so good to hear from you, and woot that the cute little build has begun.

All sympathy to your dad, so frustrating when things are so tricky already and then something makes it worse and you can’t just go back those few minutes to avoid it.

Ha, yes, it needs constant vigilance when that weight creep starts. Good luck with it and all power to you.

Thin thanks, my legs just walked down a hill 😀

And it sounds like when they said they wanted people with experience castrating macaques, they meant they wanted people with experience catching macaques.
That amazing video link made it so clear to me!

Anzac, so annoying when my candle doesn’t work. Fingers crossed you get there with a good job soon. We want you to have all your savings ready for that post retirement life!

So terrible to read about your friends near death. Hooray for the hospital being so close. Precious life.

And all best wishes to you for getting back into the 80’s asap! Won’t that feel good!

    Ooh Happy Belated Birthday LJoyce!

Neil I am totally unorganised, but planning to follow that link to donate. What a good cause. Have fun riding!

Quacka, I love reading your updates about your excellent 5:2ing, it is a special, rewarding time. Hooray for that empty morning feeling. So good!
And cheers for your fundraising too. It makes every step even better.

I just LOVE the points in that link about weight going up and down. Plain English and making such good sense.

I’m having a weird day with bad things and good things happening in quick succession. Hopefully home help and an appt sorted soon and then I will have a lie down!

But at least I have had the pleasure of catching up with all of you

    Best wishes

Ooh Quacka, crossed your morning post. Ooh the cruel smell of bacon. Hold on!

    Afternoon all

Weigh-in I was back down the kilo I gained last week, so basically back where I started 2 weeks ago.

Quacka, good luck on breaking into the 75s. I know the feeling about the bacon, When I used to walk in to work, there was a really nice cafe on the way that used to bake their own bread. Quite often I would walk past on the way to work, only to have my nostrils assailed by the smell of fresh baked bread and frying bacon, and I’d turn up to work hungry.

Cinque, I hope your day sorts itself out.

I spent most of my evening yesterday preserving fruit again. We went for a walk in the weekend and picked a whole bag of banana passionfruit, then my sister-in-law dropped off a box of pears off her son’s tree. I looked up a recipe to use both, and found an Australian recipe for pear and passionfruit jam. I made a big batch of that, and then bottled the rest of the pears, then tonight hopefully I can work through the last of the passionfruit and make a batch of passionfruit coulis. I’ll keep a couple of jars of jam for us, and take the rest down to the foodbank.

    Have a good one everyone

    Good morning everyone

I managed to make it through my FD on Wednesday with great difficulty lol. Weight was 76.1 kg yesterday morning so didn’t quite make it to the 75s but that’s ok. Next week I will be there for sure!

I had a bit of a funny thing happen on Wednesday FD, well it made me laugh at myself anyway!
I bought these low carb, low cal noodles a few weeks ago called Qetoe noodles. (I’ve been meaning to tell you all about them but keep forgetting.) I thought I would try the ones that are like 2 minute noodles (beef or chicken) for a quick easy “meal” at work on FDs and I had my first pack a couple weeks ago. They were quite tasty and about 120 cals for the whole pack so that fitted in to my FD well. That is until I read the rest of the nutritional panel! There is over 3000 mg of sodium in that pack and that is 1.5 times more than the daily recommended limit! There is a flavouring sachet that comes with the noodles that is like a saucy oily liquid and this is where all the salt (and most of the calories) is. I actually contacted the company and asked them about this. Anyway, what I have been doing instead is having the noodles without the flavouring or sometimes just a few drops which is still great on a FD. So, on Wednesday I had my plain noodles with a few drops of the sauce and my own homemade bone broth/stock, which I remove all the fat from, and it was good but I was still so hungry. When I finally got home and was making dinner I realised what I had done. I counted the calories for the noodle with the flavouring instead of without and no wonder I was so hungry! It was 25 cals instead of 120 cals. Duh!
Anyway with dinner and my 25 cals I ended up under the 500 cals for the day, where as I am finding it suits me better around 600 cals on a FD.

If anyone wants to try any of the Qetoe products I can let you know that the rice and the noodles are the best products. I have also tried the pastas. The long pastas are not bad, the fusilli is terrible and the penne is ok. I forgot to mention that the noodles are also available plain which are the ones I will be buying.

Oh my goodness Neil! Fresh bread AND bacon! Two of my favourite foods lol. Well done on the losing that kg again.
You are so lucky to have all that yummy homegrown fruit. Sounds delicious.

Hi Cinque and thanks for the encouragement. X

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. Xx

Thoughts and prayers for everyone up North feeling the impacts of the cyclone. I hope you are ok Lindsay

Thanks for the good wishes regarding a job. Some progression this week, 2 potential interviews and a call from my old bank asking if I would come back. It would be a totally different job but in the new project (replacing mine that was cancelled) which would be great as I like to see things through to the end. Just waiting to hear more details and what money they are offering. It is in the business again so I know they don’t have the big budgets that the technology teams have but I also told him the previous offer was way too low. This is a totally different business area and it is within a big budget project rather than just BAU so I think they will be able to come up with a decent offer. Let’s see what happens

Wow Quacka, that sodium count blew my mind! So many people don’t realise what they are actually ingesting as they don’t check

yay for a kilo gone Neil! Freshly baked bread is my arch nemesis. I cannot resist so I don’t make it and steer clear of bakeries

Cinque I hope the bad things amongst the good things that happened a couple of days ago are all gone and resolved?

Well the weekend approaches, not that it means anything to me whilst unemployed! Take care all

    Morning all,

It’s been pretty quiet in here, so I’ll break the silence.

My weigh-in this morning I was down half a kilo, so I’m pleased with that. But I was quite sad last night, there was a new show on TV that looks like it was the last thing made by Dr Mosley before he died. It was called “The secrets of your big shop” which is basically the same as “Eat well for less”, except he focuses more on the health rather than the money savings on people’s shopping. The couple he had on first, the guy drank 38 pints of cola per week. The equivalent of 3 litres per day, and the woman drank wine with every meal, they were both huge and wondered why they were tired all the time.

    I hope everyone is well

    Have a great one everyone

    Good Morning everyone

Hi Neil, yes it has definitely been quiet in here! Good to hear your weight is down again, well done.
3 litres of Cola ?!?!? I can only imagine what that is doing to his body. He will know about it when he develops gall stones on top of any other health problems he already has!

I’m on second FD of the week, another B2B as I had to skip Monday’s FD. I’m mentally psyched and prepared with something for lunch and a low cal dinner. I should be able to make it thru! I’ll check in with my weight tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing ok xx

    Hello everyone,
There’s been a run of hot days and nights here that wiped me out. I must be an old lady! It is cool this morning though, so I will catch up here.

Quacka, I’m crossing my fingers that this is the week you get into the 75’s. Good luck!
Those Qetoe products sound amazing. And haha calorie counting mistakes. So tricky!

Anzac, my fingers are still crossed (metaphorically) for that job of yours too. Let me know when I can uncross them. I hope you can live your good life even with the stress hanging over you. Maxx will help with that, I know.

Neil, that Dr Mosley program sounds good, and sad. I will look out for it here.
Woot for that half kilo! You are doing great.

Sending out lots of good wishes to everyone

    Good Morning Everyone

Hi Cinque, good to hear from you! Thanks for the finger crossing lol

Weight this morning was 75.6kg so I’m pretty happy with that. FD was a little tougher yesterday because I was doing computer work all day and it just taxes my brain, and energy. All I wanted to do was snack ha ha. I avoided that by drinking some fizzy mineral water with the blood orange/mango flavour in it (no sugar of course) and also by focusing on how happy I would be if I get into the 75s. I’m glad I made it through.

Going to try and have a very healthy weekend – lots of exercise, less alcohol and nice light foods. It’s going to be very hot here over the weekend so exercise will need to be done early.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and stay safe and cool xx

Quacka, I’m so pleased to read about your success. Some FDs are harder than others. Have you made it to the 75s now? Keep reporting please!

Neil, good job with the latest weigh in. I think I’ve seen the doco you mention. Staggering. One only has to walk down the extensive sticky drinks aisle in the supermarket to get a grip on what a huge industry it is.

Cinque, hot days can sap your energy. It’s not just an older people thing; I once read that it’s harder for women to regulate their temperature after menopause. We had such fabulous weather in Perth but the air-con broke in our apt after the second day and some of the nights were uncomfortably hot – we got a taste of apartment living where, of course, there’s no through-flow of air such as you get when you can open front and back doors. Our first and last days were in the high 30s which briefly took me back to long summers held hostage by the air-con. I don’t miss that.

Anzac, any luck with the latest job possibility?

Turn, can we have a tiny home update?

It’s the day after FD for me. 59.8kgs. OH selected ‘Sunday roast’ at the mooring’s waterside restaurant for his belated birthday meal celebration so I did my FD yesterday.

    Hi all

Well I was promised two calls today about two jobs and it is 4.35pm and neither have eventuated yet. It is so frustrating when people don’t call when they promise. Perhaps they will call after 5pm when their BAU day is done

It was so incredibly hot yesterday – the car said 40 degrees when Mr A picked me up from a birthday lunch. He stayed home with Maxx as we couldn’t leave him in that heat. He was happy to miss it as our friends picked a pretty ordinary restaurant and we both hate being forced to eat bad food.

I must say being unemployed has its advantages; the house has never been so clean and I have done a fair bit of very overdue decluttering

Are you back in the UK Thin? You mentioned your last day in Perth so I presume yes. I hear spring is quite lovely over there at the moment – but I guess it depends where you are

Ok time to stare at the phone again willing it to ring…….

    Good Morning everyone

It’s Tuesday FD today so that means I will be doing a B2B again this week. No worries, I know I can do this!

Anzac, so horrible to be waiting all day for promised calls. I hope they did eventually ring and if not, well they are missing out (on you!). Hope it all works out soon for you x

Hi thin, thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I made it into the 75’s last week. 75.6kg. I’m hoping for the 74s this week but I will be happy to be lower in the 75s too. I’m heading in the right direction and that’s what matters most to me. Slow and steady is ok because I didn’t put on weight over night so I can’t expect to lose it over night either!!
I remember the heat in Perth when we visited a couple of years ago. We were staying with our friends, they have a pool but it wasn’t that refreshing actually. The water was so warm. The wife loved the warm water but everyone wanted it cooler so the husband “forgot” to put the cover on some nights which made the water a much nicer temp the next day. It did cost them in water though due to evaporation.

Hope everyone has a great day. xx
Is anyone fasting with me today? Wouldn’t mind a buddy 🙂

    Hello everyone,
Anzac, is no news bad news? Sigh. But cheers for using your frustrating time decluttering instead of eating packets of timtams (unless you are doing both 😉 )

I’ve got electricians here doing a safety check (Dept of housing flat) who have just said they are going to fix a couple of things which means the power will go off for a bit. So I will finish this, but just say Quacka I am sort of fasting with you and wholly cheering you on!

    Bye!

    Hi everyone

Glad to hear you were fasting with me yesterday Cinque x Hope all your electrical stuff is ok now.

I’m on a B2B today. It’s midday and feeling a bit hungry but I’m very busy at work so that will hopefully make it go a bit easier.

Yesterday’s FD went well so maybe, just maybe I’ll break into the 74’s tomorrow.

Feel like I’m hogging the chat at the moment so I’ll sign off and report back (briefly) with my weight tomorrow.

    Have a great day 🙂

    Afternoon all

Weigh in today and I’m back up the half kilo I lost last week <sigh> the rollercoaster continues.

Quacka, please hog away. I’ve enjoyed having you back and reading of your success. Sorry I can’t fast with you, I’m forever stuck on Sundays although the last few weeks were all over the place. I did manage 1 FD per week while away and now I’m on Saturdays while we attend two consecutive Sunday roast lunches. Last Sunday, I overate for the first time in a very long time and it was a truly horrible feeling. And a nasty 500g shock to the scales. This week, I’ll be ordering the ‘small adult plate’ option. Because I am a small adult, he he.

Perth can be unbearably hot. We didn’t experience any 40C+ temps this time. Yes, we’re back on board, Anzac. Awful jet lag, we were wide awake at 1.30am for two days, then 4.30am for the rest of the week. The sun is shining, the sky is blue and it’s forecast for 14C today – while probably sounds chilly to all of you but yesterday I sat outside and read a book.

Neil, that’s too bad. Next week will be better. Hang in there.

Anzac, how frustrating for you and how rude of those people not to call when promised. But the decluttering sounds marvellous. Shedding weight and shedding possessions are two of my favourite things. It will be so helpful when you eventually come to move on. We had a chance to become reacquainted with some of our ‘stuff’ in the Perth storage locker. Much of it comprises artefacts, rugs and paintings acquired on our travels that will give us pleasure into our dotage once we get a land base. But there was also a lot of stuff we could have done without. DD and I were taking trunkfuls to charity shops, OH couldn’t part with anything. He would empty a box, examine the contents and then pile it all back in. Although DD and I rid ourselves of six moving boxes, the storage fee at the new facility remained unchanged because it had already been assessed for shipping at that point. But it’s still less than half the rent of the old place and I’m happy that the three of us own less than 10cu/metres of crap.

Cinque, that’s good that you’re all safe on the electrical front. What is a ‘sort of fast’?

    Good Morning

Thanks thin x Love your “small adult” comment 🙂
I sometimes find meals out too big also, and strangely enough it’s when I order veggies with the food instead of chips and salad. I love salad but try to avoid eating too many chips as they make me feel sick so I usually order veggies instead, but then the veggies are so yummy that I eat all of them AND the schnitzel or whatever I ordered as the main. Oh dear ha ha

Neil, just keep going. Your body is just having a little moment but it will sort itself out and you weight will head down again. How’s the kms going for your challenge? I’m at 80kms for March and I am only counting actual kms spent exercising (walking, golf etc). If went off my actual steps for the day I would be around double my goal.

Well I’m very happy this morning as I made it into the 74’s!!!!! 74.8kg.

***Quacka does a little dance and jumps for joy***

Have a great weekend all xx

Quacka, great news! Well done. A few more calories burned with the little dance and jumping for joy.

Hi all, writing this on word and then copy and paste so if it doesn’t post or disappears, I can salvage – long post alert.

Miss GDay and I were away for 6 days last week attending the Fringe festival in Adelaide. We’ve had this planned since we were in Adelaide overnight for a medical appointment last year at Fringe time, although we didn’t attend any shows then, we had a great time wandering around the Garden of Unearthly Delights and Gluttony as well as watching the street performers and the ‘buzz’ around the CBD.

We’ve been saving for the last 12 months to ensure we could afford to attend as many different shows as possible and make the most of our 6 days. We had an absolute brilliant time and saw so many amazing shows – comedy, cabaret, French jazz music, light and laser shows, audience participation shows, escape rooms, art exhibitions, a lot of different musical performances, organ recital in a huge church, a séance, a simulated plane crash in a shipping container and so much more.

We averaged around 30,000 steps per day was and on the go from 8am till 1am every day. Most nights I was still buzzing when we got back to the room, so it took awhile to wind down and therefore only managed to get a couple of hours sleep – it was exhausting but so much fun.

We had to walk past the ice cream shop every day to get to the fringe areas so of course we had one every day – chocolate for Miss GDay and I tried a different new variety each day instead of my usual boysenberry or pistachio. We did limit ourselves by having just a single scoop instead of a double scoop which is what we normally would have. Surprisingly, I came back 0.2 kg lighter than when we left, have also dropped 0.9 kg in the 5 days since we have been back. I think the near 40-degree temperatures every single day also contributed to no weight gain, we returned to our room every day around 4pm to shower and change into fresh clothes.

Meal portion sizes at eateries were ridiculously huge and the prices were huge too, we were lucky if we could finish half of what was on our plates but from what I observed most people had no issues devouring the lot. Thin, no options here for small adult servings or even kids servings. I was also struck by how much food people put into their mouths at once, I don’t know how they can chew and swallow such a huge chunk of food in one go. At the fringe the portion sizes were the opposite – small sizes but again huge prices. A small portion of hot chips was $15 plus $2 for a squirt of tomato sauce. But that’s the nature of these types of events so it wasn’t unexpected.

I struggled to find healthy food at eateries and at fringe venues, everything was either deep fried, laden with rich sauces or made from bad carbs. I was unable to find a simple salad or a healthy vegie dish anywhere. I thought I was going to have a win when I found and ordered a haloumi salad at one restaurant however when the meal arrived the salad was dripping with a horrible tasting oil, so much in fact the bottom of the bowl contained a sea of oil. The haloumi had been crumbed and deep fried (yuk) and badly deep fried at that. It was pale fried and when I touched the coating with my cutlery the oil literally poured out of it. I ate one small piece of haloumi and a few mouthfuls of salad, and I honestly couldn’t eat anymore – it was foul. Feeling totally annoyed at being slugged $35 for a horrible meal, I promptly took my bowl up to the counter, pointed out the sea and stream of oil and asked for my money back which they reluctantly did after offering to do the meal again which I declined. It was bliss to come home and eat a simple home cooked meal.

Quacka congratulations on your ongoing downward trend, slow and steady wins the race as they say.
Anzac not keeping appointments and promises seems to be a sign of the times nowadays. I recently waited 9 weeks for a tradesman to do a job, when I first rang, he promised to turn up the following Monday but no show. I rang again the following week and received the same promise but again no show. I waited a few more weeks, rang again and he did turn up for a total of 3 mins just to inspect the job (he really didn’t need to, it was a simple job) and promised to come back the following Tuesday but again no show. 9 weeks after my initial phone call I’d had enough so rang another company who did turn up as promised, 3 days later and completed the job. I seriously wonder how some people are still in business.

Neil the rollercoaster ride is so frustrating. Perhaps time to re-evaluate and change tack with a different eating pattern or a re-jig of foods.

I’ve suffered for years with stuffy sinus with no relief no matter what I try. After being in Adelaide for a week, I guess with the heavy traffic fumes etc it’s been really bad. I’m going to go dairy free for awhile to see if that has any impact. I still have some yoghurt and feta to use up first but once they are gone, I won’t buy any more and will see what happens over the course of a month. Apparently, my home-made milk kefir will still be okay to consume as it’s a ferment and doesn’t have the same supposedly inflammatory effect as dairy. I do love my organic full fat dairy and it would be sad to give it up completely but I just can’t deal with the stuffy sinus anymore and I can’t find any other cause so I have to give the dairy elimination a go.

Must dash, I did realise how late it was.

GDSA, I empathise with your frustration at the lack of reasonably priced, decent, healthy food when away from home. I’d have taken that salad back too. Do you and Miss GDSA share plates of food? That’s what my DD and I do, but OH has a fear of missing out so he’s not really receptive to that.

    Good Morning everyone

It’s Monday FD so thought I would check in.

Thanks for the congrats thin and G’day 🙂

G’day it so good to hear from you. Wow, you packed in a lot of fun things in your time at the festival. It sounds amazing. Pity about the lack of healthy food though and yes that salad does sound gross.

I’ll keep it brief today as I have another big day ahead of me. Have a lovely day everyone xx

Hello friends, what a difference a week makes!

I ended up with two firm offers mid last week and I accepted the contract role at the superannuation company (it’s via a consulting firm for whom I will be technically working for). I had actually decided to take the role at my old bank as I would be able to walk in and just do the job without the horrible learning curve so I told the consulting firm and they countered with an offer that was too good to turn down. I also really enjoyed talking to them and they were saying all the right things so I guess even at 59 we will be teaching the old dog new tricks lol.

So now I have to go shopping for new office clothes which frustrates the heck out of me. If only I had tried harder I would be back into my old office clothes but no, they are all too small. I will still be able to WFH three days per week but only once I am trained so now I need 5 outfits. I have two that will pass at a pinch but off to Westfields today for dreaded clothes shopping. Bah. I have to make sure I look professional as I will be representing the consulting firm

I’ll come back later as I need to fill in a heap of forms for the new job and want to get them back asap

    Take care all

    Congratulations Anzac.

Hi Anzac, that’s such good news. Hope everything works out well with the new position xx I know you will smash it!

Congratulations Anzac and good luck with the clothes shopping.

Thin yes it would be good if Miss GDay and I could share meals but being autistic she has severe food sensitivities – being taste, smell and texture which results in very limited dietary options when dining out. She will also only eat at the same few places that she is familiar with and will only eat the exact same thing from the menu. Whereas when I eat out I like to try new things, as long as they fall within my healthy eating agenda that is.

At home I am able to give her a more varied diet because she is used to my home cooked meals. Her heightened sense of food sensitivity is so strong that if I put a new ingredient into a meal, say I use a different brand of passata in spaghetti bolognaise, she can taste it and won’t eat it because it tastes different. All her meals have to been made the exact same way every time.

Today I used the last of my dairy in the fridge so will go dairy free for 2 week to see if it improves my sinuses. Will be interesting to see the result.

    Morning all

Congrats Anzac! That will be a huge load off.

My weigh in this morning was down a little from last week, just 300g or so, so the rollercoaster continues.

I’m in the final week of the March fundraiser and so far I’ve ridden 480kms of the 500kms goal, and raised $575 for the starship foundation. It’s been pretty successful so far.

    Have a good one everyone.

Morning all. MIA as we deal with the ongoing drama of Mr L’s medical malpractice and the law suit that they (yes, the hospital) set us on the path to. They’ve known for 2 years that we wanted to settle and move on, but the lawyer have played a very nasty, high stress game. It’s almost like they are waiting for him to die, which sounds harsh, but I feel is true. So yesterday was an appointment with a lawyer-instigated psychiatrist, to assess OH’s mental health. (how did they think it would be, after leaving him unconscious for 25 minutes after giving him a drug they knew he was allergic to, then discharging him directly from ICU two days later, while he was actually having a heart attack). It wasn’t until the last 15 minutes of the hour appointment that his symptoms were discussed. The rest was a fishing trip, including the most inappropriate questions about our finances ….do we own our own home, do we have a mortgage, do we receive a pension, how do we fund our lifestyle. Does OH have a criminal record (seriously!!) Super distressing…but we move on.

Thank you for the care about our cyclone impact. We are fine here, and although our island was in its direct path, our little house suffered only a bit of damage to a fence, after a direct hit from a large branch that fell on to the neighbour’s roof. It was a tree that was on the boundary of the two properties, and I suggested we remove it before we built the fence, but she wanted to build around it, and that’s what happened. So now nature decided.

Gday I will be interested to see if the milk-free option helps your sinuses. When my boy was little, his severe allergy to milk (my mum gave him one formula bottle a week while I was shopping) caused the doctors to think he had cystic fibrosis. Nursing Mothers told me to take all milk from his diet and mine, I fed him for 2 years, and the symptoms disappeared within days. Good luck with your trial.

Congratulations on the new job Anzac – it sounds like a really good outcome for you. The dreaded work clothes! My ‘uniform’ when I was working in an executive role was black trousers (a few pairs) with a variety of jackets. I struggled with appropriate clothing when went to work at the university. I don’t know if you are a ‘shoe’ woman, but Wittners do fabulous boots, and are having an online sale at the moment.

OK my DS is returnig my call – it’s his birthday. I’ll answer the other posts soon ….

    Good Morning everyone

It’s great to hear from you Lindsay. The situation with the lawyers sounds horrible! I hope that there will be positive ending to this ordeal that you and your OH are dealing with x

Well today is check in day and I’m a little disappointed. I did my two FDs this week and ate very mindfully (and not over my cals) in between but this has only resulted in a 400g loss. Down to 74.4kg. I know it’s still in the right direction but I was just hoping for a bit more. I do think I know why though. I had a tough FD yesterday – just really hungry all day. Usually it comes and goes but nope, yesterday was just consistent hunger ALL DAY! I ate within my calories – 574 to be exact but I know I ate too much salt. Today is no, or very low salt day for me!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. We are expecting a rainy one here so I’m going to try and get some exercise in between the rain or head into town to the gym.

    Take care all XX

    PS.

You’re doing great Neil! I’ve managed to get to my 96kms of walking for the month and now I’ve stopped counting. I’m still doing a 6km walk most days and getting to around 13k steps per day with incidental walking.

    Morning all

Quacka, 13,000 steps a day is huge. I should get out walking more often. I’m bike fit, but I’m definitely not walking fit. I went for a ride out to a local golf course to help set up for a frisbee golf tournament. I rode 20km to get there which I had no trouble with, walked around the course for 2 hours carrying gear and setting it up, and I was really struggling with that. Then rode the 20kms home and had no trouble with that.

    Hello again.
FD yesterday and it worked! (surprise surprise). Doing a back to back today, but ravenous.
Thank you Quacka – it’s been awfully stressful. I feel I have changed over the past couple of years. Things that once would have been water off a duck’s back (eg a neighbour on the island complaining about some little branches off a tree, after a huge cyclone) now trouble me. I hope I can get my old zing back.

Neil just catching up with old posts and I read yours about the Dr Mosley program where the man drank gallons of coke. All those artificial colourings and additives, never mind the sugar. One of the women who shows gundogs has a similar habit. At shows she lays back in a reclining chair, reaching into an esky for yet another soft drink (often diet coke …but have you ever seen a thin person drink a diet softdrink?) as she complains that she’s too old to run her dog. Ah, you’re 60. It’s not your age that’s the problem.

It’s sad, with Michael Mosely gone. I see his wife is attempting to pick up where he left off, and also his son has written a book. I can’t get over the image of Michael laying, dying, with his family so very very close. (sorry to introduce a glum image).

Cinque I’ve been going back on posts but can only find your reference to your legs being better. What has happened, that I missed (but very happy it seems to have resolved).

Ah decluttering. How wonderful it is (says the person with 100 + pairs of shoes). My new mantra? If something goes in, something goes out. Of course it would be so much better if it were “if something goes in, two things go out.” But baby steps.

Back to the cooking – a massaman beef curry. I’ve cooked potatoes and carrots which will go in later to Mr L’s meal. They won’t taste quite the same, but they won’t leech those horrid carbs into the curry.

    Have a good night all.

Quacka and Neil, I’m enjoying reading of your progress in fitness and weight loss. Your determination is admirable. I’m about to help a uni friend get started on 5:2. She was always petite and, like my OH, quite infuriating to live with as she could eat anything and never gain weight. Fast forward forty years and she’s pre-diabetic and weighs more than when she was 9 months pregnant. I do love bucking the trend as we age and being able to brag that I haven’t gained an ounce in ten years. There were many sceptics around me when I started this WOL but they’re all firmly back in their boxes now.

Lindsay, the diet soft drinkers make me laugh. Often accompanied with a cheeseburger and chips. Who are they kidding? The interview with the oppositions’ lawyers sounds very intrusive and I wouldn’t have answered those questions. My mind boggles at 100+ pairs of shoes. I doubt I’ve ever owned more than two pairs at a time. Are they stored in see-through boxes?

We’re up to double figures in temperature now. The sun is shining. I can hardly wait to get out of this wharf and start cruising (1 April). OH just installed four new leisure batteries so we are ready to roll.
