  • Hi every one, I am sure your all far too young to remember the Fifties, so just for fun I am passing on a list of food in those days compared to current names.
Pasta was not eaten in Australia.
    Curry was a surname.
A takeaway was a mathematical problem.
A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower.
Rice was only eaten as milk pudding.
A Big Mac was something you wore when it was raining.
Brown bread was something only poor people ate.
Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking.
Tea was made in a tea pot using tea leaves.
Sugar enjoyed a good press and was regarded as white gold.
Cubed sugar was regarded as posh.
Fish didn’t have fingers in those days.
Eating raw fish was called poverty, not sushi.
None of us had ever heard of yoghurt.
Healthy food consisted of any thing edible.
Cooking out side was called Camping.
Seaweed was not a recognised food.
Kebab was not even a word never mind a food.
    Prunes were medicinal.
Muesli was readily available, it was called cattle feed.

    Tim.

    That’s so right Tim!
I have vivid memories of seeing my first capsicums and eggplants when I was 16, not in a supermarket, but in a deli.
Curry was always made with green Keens curry powder, with no real flavour or heat whatsoever!
Meat was lamb, mutton or beef, chicken was a real treat. And fish was fresh from the boat, never frozen or processed, unless in a sardine can.
Tapioca and sago were all the rage for desserts, as well as stewed fruit and lumpy custard. Canned pineapple and glanced cherries were the height of glamour.
Cheese was wrapped in foil and called Coon, no other types available except in those exotic delis with the funny veggies and salamis!
Grinders were unheard of for pepper and other spices, because they were already finely ground and often so out of date they lacked any flavour.
Olive oil was sold in tiny bottles in the chemist, for use in the bath, never in the kitchen.

Thanks so much for making me remember the simple days when shops and choices were a lot easier!

Here i am at 10.15 on a fast day and just starting to feel a bit peckish. That’s telling me its time to go to bed very soon. Tomorrow’s another fast day.

    Today was easy enough.

I actually think that doing the fasting window before a fast day so that its a long time before you eat your first meal on fast day is a good idea. I did not feel hungry when i got up this morning. I just had a coffee and milk and lunch at about 11.30 then i had to go out, had 1 strawberry and a coffee while out, and my salad for dinner and a coffee when i got back. Its only in the last hour that i’ve started to feel a bit hungry.

So the day before my fast, i finished eating about 5.30 i guess. I wanted to finish at 4pm but was unable to be that organised. I have started doing the 16:8 fasting window on non-fast days. It was good that i wasn’t hungry when i got up. πŸ™‚

I expect to feel ok tomorrow morning too.

But i am constipated. So i took some psyllium today and if that doesn’t work soon, i will have to take some senna stuff. I’m probably not drinking enough water. πŸ™

Thanks for the amusing posts. I don’t think there was that much difference between the 50s and the 70s at least not in my neck of the woods. And no i don’t remember the 50s. Although we did have fish fingers. And stewed fruit is still all the rage at my house!

Do you know that most people who are on a diet are in their 50s or older. I can’t remember where i came across that.

HOw many people here have read the book The End of Overeating. by Kessler. I’m just up to the second part and i’m interested to see that he has arrived at many of the same strategies and conclusions about the psychology of dieting as i have.

These include the value of rules
The use of strategies and structure
    The helpfulness of awareness

A while ago i read another book by a psychiatrist on the the psychology of dieting and while he had some of the same approaches as me, he also had some that were the exact opposite of me and it was only then that i understood that not everyone responds to food and food situations the same as me. For example, i find it helpful to forbid certain foods, while apparently the majority find that big problem and can lead to a major downfall.

That book was called Weightloss for Food Lovers by Dr George Blair-West. Interestingly he had once owned a gym and noted that most of the people who came to the gym were already slim and fit when they got there. But he has an excellent chapter on the misguidedness of exercise for weightloss.

That said, i hope to start tennis soon. But i’m not doing it for weightloss. Just for exercise because i am so unfit and have started to notice muscle wasting a little bit.

Anyone been to Japan in cherry blossom time? I want to go next year.

I remember all of those Tim. It was fun to read thanks for the laugh. Yes I can remember the 50s. Starting my 3rd day on this programme.

I forgot to say I am from southern N.S.W.

Thanks for the info, haven’t been back on for a while. Removed 1’5 kgs and 2 inches not sure of centimetres from waist. Really pleased with how it is going. I am definetely in for the long haul.

Good job Margaret. How long did it take you?

    Hi Girls! (Wave)

I’ve been reading the 38 pages from the closed thread about IF Support group. This is my first post.

I’m LOVING IF! It’s so easy. I initially started wanting to lose just 3kg (a small realistic goal. I’ve done that easily in about 4 weeks and now feel that I can easily lose another 3kg. When I say “easily” what I really mean is that I can do it! I love that I can have days where I can eat normally.

I’m mixing it up with various IF approaches. I generally do a 5-6 hour eating window each day from 3-8 as I find it easy not to eat until about 1pm. I can then hold out till 3pm to eat. I then have days where I only eat about 500 cals, and days where I eat whatever I want in that 5 hour window. I love that this allows me to have dinner with friends and be able to eat ANYTHING I want: dips, antipasta, chips, cheeses, dinner, wine & dessert. On the days I do that I usually put on about a pound but I don’t stress about it because I know that overall I’m on a downwards trend. And I love that I can have a great social life with this WOE.

Thank you so much to everyone for posting. It’s really encouraging to read people’s posts x

hmmm having to study in Brisbane even though it is the most gorgeous day! I am also fasting. Went up .5 kg this morning πŸ™ Trying to keep positive, only been on fasting diet since 12/8. have eaten kiwifruit and banana. Anyhow hard as I have to cook something tonight for my kids and not eat! Guess many have that problem?? Anyone with young kids??? cheers Alison

Hi Alison, I can now cook for the family without it bothering me. I have even made cakes and slices without breaking my fast. But at least with this WOE I know I can have a bit tomorrow – if there’s any left! It does help to already know what my meal is for the day.

I have really pigged out this week after being sick for a few days, so am looking forward to tomorrow’s fast day.

The weather here in Melbourne has been wonderful this weekend. I’ve been out in the garden weeding, and went for a big walk, even doing HIIT by running!! I have never run by choice in my life! I did 3x running for 40sec with 80sec recovery, and it wasn’t too bad. Really. Back out to the garden now so I can finish this section before the weather turns.

    Happy fasting all πŸ™‚

thanks Melbourne mum. I think I am feeling a little flat today so that is making my fasting harder. I am drinking herbal teas and trying to keep my mind on my study but it’s hard to study for an exam and fast. Gardening sounds like more fun. Thanks for your reply πŸ™‚

hope you feel better after your fasting day tomorrow.

Alison – I wouldn’t worry about 500gm. I find my weight can vary by about 900gm within a day. And I’m always up after a non fast day.

I walked for an hour today. So I burned approximately 366 calories. You have to be in a deficit of 7000 calories to lose 1kg of fat. 366 is 5% of 7000 so I burned 5% of a kilo or 50gm. That doesn’t sound like a lot. But go get a stick of butter and see how much 50g of fat looks like. I don’t mind losing that from my tummy πŸ™‚

Wow MelbourneMum. I hope I get to the point where I can make sweets for my family without falling off the wagon. Good on you! You’ve also really inspired me to try out HIIT. I love that you didn’t do much. I can do 3 sets of 40 second bursts. That’s achievable.

Welcome chicitagatita, are you in effect eating only one long meal a day? That’s brave of you. I do know other people who do this but i have not yet tried it. But you would get full at least if you have all your calories in one sitting so it would be fun from that point of view. I never get full these days and sometimes i miss it, even though i’m always satisfied when i finish a meal.

Alison, i’m fasting today too. And i cooked a risky food and didn’t cave. It began just as stewed strawberries which was supposed to be an attempt at sugarless conserve but i blended up the pectin seeds and they were making the strawberries bitter so i decided to tip in all the remaining marscapone cheese. Now this combo of strawbs and marscapone is pretty toxic to me – meaning i love it and could eat it till there was none left but i did no more than lick the spoon to check its flavour.

Its now 5.30 and there’s not long to go before this two-day fast is all over for another week. I’ve also cooked a leftover leafy green soup, and stewed apples and lunch. And i haven’t had anything since lunch as i’ve got no calories left.

I hope that by now you’ve eaten something more substantial than a piece of fruit and feel better. I know its hard to study and not eat. If you eat a big meal before having to cook for the kids at least you should be able to resist eating their food. The harder the study the hungrier you’ll be.

Maybe next time don’t pick a study day to fast if you can help it. I don’t think the two really go together. You need your brain power and fasting means an underfed brain.

    Hi Patience

Yes I wait and have all of my 500 cals after 5pm. I just find it easier. If I eat something earlier it just “wakes the dragon” that is hunger. I do drink about 5 cups of coffee (some decaf) with a dash of milk to get me through.

I just had (5pm) 100gms of chicken breast (190 cal), a tomato (20), mixed lettuce (20), carrot (35) and baldamic vinegar (30). Thats a total of approx 300 cals. So I still have another 200 cals I can eat before I go to bed.

Excuse me for spelling out all the cals individually. I’m new to this and was looking it all up as I posted.

I recently heard about the “Fast 5” approach to IF and it really suits me. It’s like 16:8 but instead 19:5. I find the 19:5 awesome when I have a social dinner to go to. It means I can eat & drink my entire TDEE in that one social situation.

I’m tending to mix it up in regards to what IF approach I take depending on how my weeks looking. I’m LOVING it!

P.S. The strawberries and mascarpone sounds DIVINE! I think preparing that for others takes way more willpower than not eating till 5pm x

    Hi All

Thanks so much for all your support. the strawberry thingy sounds divine. You are very brave. I have made spagetti bolognese and had a little taste (like a half a teaspoon) and its lovely. So that wil be the kids tea, not sure what I will have? I havent planned too well today. I am thinking an egg, salad and something? I only have about 300 calories. I would like some bolognese sauce but the calories are horrendous. Are omlettes ok? Will look them up.

I agree that I shouldnt study on a fasting day but i have an exam on Tuesday and will study again tomorrow, so thought today would be safest. Really need to plan the days hey.

    thanks all πŸ™‚

This is my 2nd fasting day and so far all good.
3 days into my first week. Am a little hungry.
Beautiful sunny day today spent some time in the garden … trying to keep busy.
I am enjoying reading all the post from you all .. very encouraging.

good on you annie1, I am into my fourth week. I found today hard but the last F day was fine. We will be pleased we stuck to it tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Ok, so husband and i are three weeks into following the 5:2 regime. And it is going well! We are keeping notes as to what we eat on the fasting days, and are getting used to what foods are better to eat. A strong reliance on eggs….and have discovered that the egg white haas only 17 calories, so we have one full egg plus two whites as a scramble and it’s only about 100 cal! Also been blitzing cauliflower in the food processor to make ‘rice’ and adding lots of vegies plus small tin of tuna for dinner. And homemade hummus…..what a winner as an alternative dinner with carrot sticks! I have this awesome book called “this=that” which shows real-size photos of huge array of foods, all in 140cal size portions. That has been an excellent resource and quick check for us. I am not a big fan of getting on the scales, prefer to judge things by how my clothes are fitting, as i do several weight-bearing exercise days during the week to build muscle tone. So not really sure yet how the weight levels are panning out. The bonus i have found is that i am also eating less on the non-fasting days, as overall my appetite is reducing. Marvellous!

Well, for the first time I weighed less at night time than in the morning! I clocked in at my current lowest of 68.0kg!!! I can’t wait to see the scales tomorrow morning as today was a fast day and in addition I did a 1 hour walk! I can’t wait to see 67.x! ((HAPPY DANCE)).

Annie – good on you! Hang in there. Fast days get much easier.

FJR – I’m a visual person so that book sounds great. You’re so lucky to have your husband doing this with you. I am surprised that despite my husband and daughter eating normally (treats, snacks, desserts etc) I’m going strong.

I love this thread. I find it so motivating to follow people’s journeys and get support x

Chicitagatita, ah no i was asking your about your daily routine, not the fasting routine. And you are confusing me.

I don’t know what you are doing. Can we speak English and not numbers. How many days are you fasting. And what are you doing on your non-fasting days? Are you eating one meal and eating 200 calories? plus a few cups of coffee. I don’t think so but that’s what you seem to have said.

No the strawberries are for me. I just have to eat them another time. Not today. Strawberrries were cheap this week 4 punnets for $5.

Alison, i’m glad you got through ok. Its nearly time i went to bed if i don’t want to tempt fate too much more. Its 9.20.

Foxy i could never understand the appeal of egg white. I’m more of a traditionalist. I need to eat the whole egg unless its made into a meringue .

    Sorry for confusing you Patience.

I don’t follow 5:2 on it’s own. I combine 5:2 with “Fast 5” (where you fast for 19 hours EVERY day and then have a 5 hour window in which to eat your calories).

    MON: 500 cal
    TUES: 1200-1800 cal
    WED: 1200-1800 cal
    THURS: 500 cal
FRI: Whatever I want within that 5 hour window. It can go up to 2500 at times but generally around 2000 cal.
SAT: As above if being social. If no socialising I do 1200-1800 cal
    SUN: 1200-1800 cal.

And I try to eat all of the cals each day between 3pm-8pm. I do have 1-4 cups of coffee a day with a total of about 100 cals of milk. So I’m really having an extra 100 cals each day.

Thats what I LOVE about this WOE. You can tweak it so it’s sustainable for you. If I had to give up my coffees I would quit. So I’d rather slow my weight loss cown but keep trending down.

    I hope this makes sense?

Hi all Monday fasters, it’s the first day of spring and the sun is shining here, so I hope you all have a glorious day and enjoy the process, no matter how detailed or relaxed it is.
It seems we all find our own best way forward in the 5:2 way of life, so have a lovely day!

I’m off to do a little bush-dancing in the dunes, flouro yellow shirt, gloves, hat, boots and all!

    Cheers,

Ooooooh ihaveawaist! Hello!!!! i’ve been reading the forum from page 1. You’ve done such a great job and been so inspirational x

This morning’s weigh in. Drumroll….66.6kg! Woooooooo hooooooo! My best ever weight was 63kg. I started off with IF wanting to get to 69 (setting my goal low and achievable). When I reached that easily I set a new goal of 65. Now that I know that I’ll achieve that within a few weeks I’m going to aim for 63 then go into maintenance mode.

    Happy, happy, happy dance! Xxxxx

Yep now i gotcha chicita gatita. Since last week i’ve been doing an 8 hour eating window on my non-fast days too so i guess its similar to you. Except i don’t even drink coffee milk outside my eating window. My coffees have a 1/4 cup of milk in each so that’s a total of one cup a day i tend to get from my coffee.

Its great to practice restraint this fasting way i must say.

I survived my two day fast. Woke up feeling good but the scales are stuck and didn’t show a loss at all. I’ve come to the conclusion that its probably due to me starting to eat psyllium fibre which must be holding water in my gut. If that’s true, then my weight should start going down again soon. Today was 63.4 but i have already been as low as 63 and i just haven’t seen a single day this year below that yet. I was really hoping to see it today.

    My goal is 60kg.

IHAW, how nice to go bush dancing. I’ve never actually been to one. Have a great time.

So this afternoon i’m going to work! How exciting. Actually i’m volunteering at the local community centre. And its good for me even though it throws out my whole day.

Does anyone have any expertise at using online booking sites to book the cheapest flight going. I want to go to Japan for cherry blossom festival next year but while i can find a pretty good fare, id on’t seem to able to book the baggage i need for my bike and people tell me that jetstar offers even better deals than this so i should wait a bit longer. I’m afraid i might miss out if i don’t take this $8oo in total fare.

Well i got through yesterday and became quiet emotional last night! Triggered by my son – wont go into it but just wondering if others have found it hard emotionally. I think I am an emotional eater and because i couldn’t eat last night, the emotions were very raw – anyone experienced this? thanks πŸ™‚

Hi all, happy first day of spring.

Alison, I too find it very hard to cope with upsets on fast days. Tried to analyse but nothing makes sense. Hope things are better today.

Pattience, I always use Webjet, which has been around for ages. Do take care to check the final price though as the fare prices displayed against the flights do not include the surcharges and whatever.

    Happy Monday fasting.

Hi FJRabbit, welcome to this dedicated mob the support is wonderful and its advised that one reads the” Book ” and the FAQ at the top of this page as it has lots of good info. Glad your OH is doing it also, great help.

    Cheers,
    Tim.

Hi all Monday fasters as NickyF said its Spring and I hope your fast has got off to a good start.

Is anyone out there struggling today? If so give us a hoy…… your not alone.

    Tim.

Hi all. Super thrilled that I reached 66.6kg this morning. V v motivating. Today is not a fast day for me. We’re heading to the pub tonight for dinner but this WOE means I’ll get online to wok out calories before I choose what to eat tonight πŸ™‚ The great thing about the 19:5 window for me is there’s little chance I’ll eat my TDEE in one sitting (but I know it is possible). I’ll have 2 glasses of wine so that’s about 200 cals. I’ve had about 200 cals during the day in skinny latte’s. So I have about 1200 to ‘spend’ on dinner. Any suggestions for menu choices?

Pattience – glad I made sense this time. Like you I find having an eating window super helpful. You’re so close to your goal. It’ll happen in no time x.

Alison – I am much more easily irritated on my fast days. But nothing that my husband and daughter has noticed. So that’s good. I tend to lower my expectations of what I can achieve at home on fast days and that makes it much easier to not get snappy.

Tim – I’m having a good day on 19:5 eating window. I’d usually fast on Mondays but I’m heading to the pub with friends.

Evening folks πŸ™‚ Welcome to all the newbies (I feel funny saying that, technically I’m a newbie myself haha). This thread is a great place for suggestions and even just support when you’re struggling.

As for me, tomorrow is my first fasting day for the week. I’m down to 69.5kg although I’m not sure if that number is accurate because I’m both sick and dealing with additional body bothers. I suspect I’m retaining water weight for several reasons. I hope so at any rate, I’m happy to be at 69.5kg but my clothes and rings feel the way they do when I’m about a whole kilo lighter so there’s a good chance that I’m just carrying around a heap of extra water.

I did well with food today, sitting at around 1400 cals but I dropped about 300 in exercise today. No exercise tomorrow which is a VERY good thing as I don’t think I could exercise and fast given that I’m still recovering from being sick. I’m feeling much better than I was, but I still don’t think fasting and exercising is a good idea together when I’m not up to par.

Hope everyone is doing well. I’m not sure what I’m going to eat tomorrow, my normal ‘go to’ breakfast is cottage cheese with banana, strawberry and a touch of regular fat free vanilla yoghurt to sweeten it up. Unfortunately, I’m out of all three! Might have to make a shopping run in the arvo to pick up some supplies and just fast until then. That will be a struggle, so far I’ve been having tiny low cal meals throughout the day to keep me from hating life lol.

I think goal is still a long way off – i just fasted two days in a row, almost 2.5 days since my friday dinner finished at 5pm ish. Anyway the scales this morning had not gone down a gram !! can you believe it. The only explanation i can think of is that i’ve started taking psyllium fibre and hope that’s holding on to a lot of water and therefore there is the weight i should have lost throughout this exercise. Hopefully things will look different tomorrow.

Presumably my weight will start going down again and if not, i will have to consider another explanation.

i’m finding two meals a day at my current activity level (sedentary ) really good. I even felt full at dinner tonight, helped by 2 cups of leafy green veg soup, no doubt. But the highlight of my food today was the leek and tomato gratin with mozzarella cheese. It was even better than the strawberry marscapone thingy i made yesterday.

    Thanks for the tip Nicky.

I haven’t noticed any emotionality with fasting.

Hi Everyone i went over my TDEE today with going out for dinner by about 200 calories. I am a bit disappointed but I also enjoyed eating “normally” with friends. I do really love that unlike other diets I don’t beat myself up & throw in the towel. Tomorrow is another day and if I just keep going I’ll still be trending down.

Tomorrow will be a fast day for me.

Kits – it sounds like your doing really well. Good on you.

Pattience – a 2.5 day fast! That’s amazing. Don’t worry about it not showing up on the scales. It will! Within 2 days I bet you have a HUGE drop x

    Hi Everyone,
I have been very busy at work and the weekend so haven’t had time to check the forum. I have just had a quick read thru.
I am finding the fasting days are getting easier and am in my third week.
I find I spend a lot of my fasting days/nights peeing. I fasted thursday and Friday weighed 62.3 in the morning and Saturday was 63 and this morning 63.7. I did eat more than I should have on the weekend. Is anyone else bouncing around like this? I think maybe I am just loosing fluid and then gaining it.I was hoping to see some good results. I know it is early days yet.
Happy first day of spring everybody.
    Jane

You do lose a lot of water when you reduce your carbs as you will on a fast day. This is normal. And of course when you go back to eating normally again, your weight will bounce back up with the water but hopefully some of what you lost in those few days was some fat too.

On any diet everyone loses a lot in the beginning if they are eating healthy food because they are eating a lot less carbs and probably a lot less salt as well. I’ve become more aware of the carb factor since doing a stint of low carb a couple of months ago.

Its also in synch with that when people start to get headaches. That’s pretty standard at the beginning of low carb diets too. This is dehydration due to loss of body salts. So if you are experiencing any headaches, take a salty type of drink such as miso soup. and then keep drinking plenty of water.

There has been a lot of talk about “water retention”. We are living organisms that will naturally have fluctuating weights from day to day and during any one day. Even drinking 4 glasses of water is 1 litre/ l kilogram. You will pass this water as urine. It does not build up. Similarly if certain foods (eg wheat) cause constipation, you will weigh more temporarily. This is not fat gain. If you find this uncomfortable, change your diet to make yourself more regular. It is simply a slowing of your digestive system.
Eating lean protein and veg is the answer for most of us. Reducing, or eliminating processed foods can only be a good choice. Look at the long term trends of your weight. The daily fluctuations are normal and healthy. PVE

Thanks for reminding me it is spring today Nicky! Down south in WA it doesn’t feel like it, but there are LOADS of wildflowers everywhere. P πŸ™‚

Hey Pattience……adjusting to a mostly egg white scramble is OK, because I still use one whole egg so as to get the nice yellow colour through it, and so long as I don’t overcook the scramble it is palatable!

Husband has declared that he needs to start wearing a belt with his work trousers, otherwise they are now starting to fall down. πŸ™‚

Does anyone else find that if the day after fasting they eat some fast food or a lot of carbs, that they feel quite nauseous?

Foxy, i only think about eating a lot of food on the day following my fast. I tend not to over do it, apart from the first time. I haven’t experienced nausea all year.

I don’t eat much fast food at all. I’m into whole foods. Its probably the fat that made you feel nauseous as greasy food does that sometimes.

PVE, water does build up in certain conditions: e.g. after exercise, particularly extreme exercise, with increased carb intake, increased salt intake, and i know psyllium holds water and expands – put some in a cup with some water and see for yourself. So you will hold it until you pass it. All these conditions are of course temporary. There are other more serious conditions that cause water retention too.

    Good morning SH mates.

One FD down with no trouble yesterday so hoping for the same today. Had a pig out weekend and the scales showing it. Mr Will Power must have gone on holiday πŸ™

Time to refocus, keep off the processed carbs and stick to <TDEE on non-FDs.

Very welcome 12mm rain yesterday and last night to settle the dust. A bit more forecast for the rest of the week which should take the worried frown off the farmers’ faces for a bit.

    Happy Tuesday all.

    Hi Foxy.
Tell OH that I had to buy a leather punch to add holes to my belts. πŸ˜‰ he’s not alone.
    Ros.

PVE, enjoy the wildflowers. It’s on my list but only ever been in WA at other times of the year.

I think I read on another thread that this trip was a quick decision? Sort of thing we do – which is why we spent a 3-day long weekend driving to and from Nullarbor last year just to see the whales. Spontaneity is fun!

    Safe driving, n.

    Hi Foxy

The best belt investment I ever made was a man’s plaited one with two rings for the ‘buckle’ – infinitely variable and has stood by me through thick (waist) and thin. I now have both black and brown ones so all colour circumstances covered.

The best are made from kangaroo hide by RM Williams. Staggeringly expensive at first look but I have had mine for more than 30 years without serious deformation, still comfortable and in good condition. Works out very inexpensive on a use/wear basis.

    Nicky

    Where do you live Nicky?

Hello again all. Made it through today without busting up my 500 cals. In fact, according to my calculations I still have another 60 cals up my sleeve. I’m not sure if I believe that, I think I may have missed something or forgotten to track something somewhere in there.
It’s ok though, I’m going to have another cuppa (to warm me up, I don’t care WHO says it’s spring it’s freezing here! Hahaha) and try to keep my mind off being hungry. The yummy breakfast I have planned for tomorrow is keeping me going πŸ˜‰

That being said I think today is the easiest I’ve had it so far. Didn’t really get SUPER hungry until this arvo and it seemed to ease off a lot more quickly throughout the day when I did get a noisy tummy. So I can attest to the fact that it does get easier. I also noticed that my portion sizes are decreasing on non-fast days which is great as that’s one of the main things I struggle with. Especially portions of carbs, hubby made pasta for dinner last night and I could only eat half the bowl. I stopped when I was satisfied instead of eating it because it was there. Gotta be happy with that.

Ah yes, Nicky, my bloke always makes spontaneous decisions. We have allowed 3 weeks as we have house guests minding home and use of a car one way.
The wildflowers are stunning. Definitely the best time to travel the Nullarbor…the weather has been between 3 deg and 33 deg! Not too hot, but sadly not hot enough for me to show off my new bod in my new swimmers.
Esperence is really worth the trip, so were the whales at Head of Bight. We are now heading along the south coast and will fly out from there. We have covered a staggering number of kilometres, but usually only travel 6 hours a day with a programmed rest day occasionally. Today was one. We are finding fasting while travelling, even with others, is easy as food is not always present and we are really used to going a long time without food. It is also really quick to get up and go in the morning! We brought Shiritaki noodles and flavourings with us. Just have to grab some veg and fish to make a healthy meal. I have hardly had bread the whole trip.
Interestingly there were no green paddocks all the way from the Eyre Peninsular in SA to south of Norseman in WA…about 3 days driving. Certainly nothing arable on the Plain and around Kal is as red as red with b****y big holes in the ground everywhere! P πŸ™‚

Sure Patience. Water retention can be the result of a severe medical condition, but in normal healthy people it is only temporary as I said. That is why our weight fluctuates and it is by graphing the tends that you see the long term effects…hopefully towards a healthy weight if you need to, or to maintain at your goal. P

Foxy, the day after a fast day I often forget it isn’t a fast day, get up, go out and eat a very light lunch. I might have gone to bed dreaming about food, but by morning it has passed.
I love the way this WOE has empowered me to control what I do and don’t eat and know I can go long, long periods without food and then just eat something healthy. Way to go! P
