  • Good morning,

Have fun changing your clocks, those of you who have daylight saving starting!

    Congratulations Stay!
    Commiserations Gday!

Thin, you are lucky to have Kings Park, what a great bit of early planning that was!

    Nice work LJoyce.

    Fast day for me today.

    Cheers all

FD for me too Cinque. And the dubious honour of posting the 13,000th entry on our thread!

    Good morning SHs

    Yesterday’s FD went well.
Quiet day at home today and even though it’s not a FD I need to be careful as I have another lunch out tomorrow.

Thanks for the reminder Cinque – I’d forgotten to put the clocks forward.

    Have a nice Sunday.

Good morning and afternoon everyone. It’s still Saturday night here and we’re going to look for a movie to stream on the TV in a little while.

LJoyce, those rosellas are beautiful. It seems almost unreal to imagine having such colorful and exotic birds in the garden. I should have been born in Australia! It sounds like you’ve accomplished a lot around the house this weekend. It looks like we both are having nice weather this time of year.

Thin, you were gobsmacked and wish to be defragged? 😁I had to look up a picture of that bandicoot that you happened upon. What a cute little animal!

There was an album by Johnny Matthis that was released yesterday and I am able to stream it over our Amazon Echo speakers for free with our Prine account. https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Mathis-Sings-American-Songbook/dp/B075H5TDL8/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1506826575&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=Johnny+matthis+American+songbook
The first song was “Hallelujah” which I’ve always loved. Are you familiar with it? Leonard Cohen wrote it. K.D. Lang sang it at the Winter Olympics a few years ago and did a wonderful job. Johnny Matthis turned 82 today, but you would never know it by his singing. He still has an amazing voice. I probably listened to that song 20 times last night.

Sorry Cali – when it comes Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, there is only one version as far as I’m concerned – R.I.P. Jeff Buckley.

Penguin – Every morning I do some online number puzzles. When I solve them I’m rewarded with a photo. This morning the photo was titled “Penguin with Attitude”. I thought, now who do I know that that applies to…
    https://imgur.com/A3rLO34

Cinque – I made your version of the crumbed cauliflower for dinner tonight. I actually think the yoghurt is stickier than egg, so I’ll definitely use that idea again – thank you.

I’m heading off to Bunnings first thing in the morning to buy packing boxes. No I’m not moving yet, but it is time to start packing up all the things I won’t need over summer. It will make the decorating easier if I have mainly cleared rooms.

I’m glad I was very careful with my food choices today, as I have lunch with a friend at a local cafe tomorrow. I can go to it with a clear conscience.

LJ. I am flattered, I think. That is a determined looking Penguin.

Happy Sunday evening all. Well the footy didnt go as i hoped but well done to the Tigers, they were the best team on the day.

Feeling a bit out of whack with the change to daylight savings usually takes a week for my body clock to adjust.

Have dropped another .3 kg since Friday’s post so feeling good.

    Excellent portrait of Penguin!

I’m glad the yoghurt on cauliflower worked for you LJoyce, I was so pleased with how easy and successful it was. And surprised!

When we were talking about Countdown I was thinking how my dominating older brother and sister sneered at the pop music and while we watched Countdown it was a bit dimmed by their criticism. (And watching a bit last night I thought they weren’t all that wrong 😉 )
Instead we listened to Leonard Cohen. So I remember when Hallelujah first came out! (Favourite version: in Shrek)

I had a fasty fast, hungry all day, but that means it is working!
    Delicious, mindful eating today.

    Hi Everyone
Hope you are all doing well and those who are having a public holiday today- enjoy! I am happy to be home and everyone else has gone to work- seems ages since that had happened!

Thin, I did weigh myself between and after b2b. I weigh myself everyday but only record officially on Monday. I’ve heard some people record their lowest weight for the week but that sounds like cheating to me. I lost 600 grams after the 2st FD but put on 200 grams the next fast day even tho I’d only had 700 calls? I have no idea and won’t be in a hurry to do that again!!

Well I’ve had a really good, but terrible weekend. I gave myself permission to enjoy the weekend celebrations and have some wine and nibbles and birthday cake but put on 1.4 kg😩😢😒
So FD for me today!! And hopefully I have learned my lesson. I actually am suffering from heartburn this morning and haven’t had that for ages. I have enough cleaning up and ironing to do today to keep me out of the kitchen . Also with daylight savings starting 😀 DH and I will walk before dinner.
Have a great day everyone! Xx

Hi Cinque, I watched the whole Countdown episode last night. I have to agree with your older siblings. Some of those Australian acts were painful. I like the info text displayed at the bottom of the screen. It’s called, ‘Countdown’. Were they counting anything down – such as working their way to the number one hit song? They showed a teasing two second glimpse of my all-time favourite singer, Bryan Ferry. I have every one of his albums. I just wish he’d stop carrying on with women less than half his age and realise that I am the one.

I seemed to be hungry about an hour before my feeding times yesterday. I had some hearty root and vegetable soup already made which OFMs eat too, so it was an easy FD.

Stay, it’s good that you had a fun weekend. I’m sure most of the weekend excess weight gain will be gone by tomorrow. You’re pulling out all stops! From what I understand, spacing out your fast days best helps with establishing & re-setting portion control and food choices on the NFDs. It also fits well with the feast and famine concept. I’ve also yet to read of anyone enjoying much success with 4:3. It all sounds gruelling to me. I’m sure I’d feel an urge to over-compensate if virtually every other day were a FD. In my own case, I steadily lost ½kg a week over a year with a couple of plateaus. My two FDs were always strictly adhered to, NFDs have always been a work in progress. Penguin, who has been practicing fasting longer than I, may have some different insights as he employs B2B in maintenance.

LJ, which number puzzles do you complete?

All the best to the Monday fasters and everyone else.

Stay – don’t fret about the WE gain, a couple of FDs this week will deal with it. I’ve had the same confusion about the scales not reflecting calories consumed. I find I can only rely on scales as a long term trend.

    Hi Thin,
The current “countdown” is a compilation, but in the original episodes the last segment was always a top 10 countdown to number 1 and the film clip for that song was played as the credits rolled.

There are a number of free puzzles that I do – on 4 sites but don’t do all of them every day (unless I’m particularly bored), they are sudoku, giant sudoku, kakuro and griddlers. I especially like the giant sudoku and the multi-griddlers.
    http://www.sudoku.com.au/
    http://kakuro.cc/
    http://www.sudokucentral.co.uk/16giantsudoku.php
    https://www.griddlers.net/home

Hi LJ, thanks for the links. I use an on-line suduko too and I’ve only just realised after looking at yours that I don’t have to print it out! (Thus proving that these activities are doing nothing for my brain). I only do the ‘Evil’ grade as I can’t see the point if it isn’t a challenge and I only do them when I don’t have a cryptic crossword on the go.

Granddaughter is busy with playdoh. I’m having a good day!

Love love love Bryan Ferry singing Avalon, one of my favourite songs ever. But disappointed when I saw him in concert (Festival hall mid eighties) so you can have him Thin!

Ooh glad to have your sudoku links. Here is a game I like: http://gabrielecirulli.github.io/2048/

Yes Stay, scales are not the scientific instrument you might think they are. There is a djinn in there! Not exact, and not necessarily friendly! Watch out!

Why were you disappointed Cinque? Yes, Avalon’s a classic. It’s high time for another visit downunder Bryan. Last seen in 2011 at Margaret River. I stood in front of the stage dancing and singing with the other tragics of my vintage. Except that I knew all the words. I’ve adored him since buying my first vinyl album, “These Foolish Things” at uni. Mr Style. In fact, no-one else is home so …..

I just didn’t get into it. Maybe I was having an off day, or he was having an off night. So better not invite me to see him with you or you might have me as a rival again! 😉

Thanks for the pointer to the Konjac recipes StayinThin.
Cinque I worked in China up near Beijing, then have had a couple of shorter contracts back in the central part over the past couple of years. I also had a couple of years in Vietnam, but didn’t really engage with Vietnamese the way I did with Mandarin (although I loved the Vietnamese people, culture, food, equally).
I’ve had a funny couple of days. First it was my daughter’s birthday so Saturday night we headed out with my kids and their kids for a relaxed pizza. I shared one, and factored it in, so felt quite virtuous. And only 1 glass of wine (dedicated driver!). But yesterday the rest of the family wanted to celebrate, so I got baking. It’s ages since I’ve made cakes but I got back into my stride and made a fabulous chocolate cake and a ginger one, although I was so anxious I ate nearly as many of the little chocolate bits as I put in the cake. So, depressing weigh in this morning, and a struggle for today’s FD.

Day 1 , 5.45pm, of my two day back to back fast. Nothing solid for 24 hours, but many cups of tea/coffee with semi skimmed milk. Energy levels are fine. Not feeling hungry, although the smell of OH’s chicken soup was good.

Thin, my OH has 3 of Bryan Ferry’s CD. I was listening to Avalon yesterday after reading these posts. That’s certainly an all time classic.

I lost .6 kg since yesterday, but I don’t know how. I had not been eating well since my FD Thursday. I have resolved to get back on track today. I certainly don’t want to gain back all the weight I lost. Today, Monday, is a FD for me.

The first thing I saw this morning on the news was the shootings in Las Vegas last night, the first I had heard about it. It’s so horrifying to know that something like that could happen any time, anywhere. Too many guns and too much access to them. With security so tight in the casinos it’s hard to figure out how the shooter got all those guns up to his room. So sad for the families of the deceased.

Not a good morning with the news of that dreadful mass shooting,
But the sky is clear here and the birds are calling. Granddaughter is having her breakfast.
Spoke too soon, now she is beside me watching the Wiggles.

Lindsay, all power to you for your post chocolate fast I hope it is a good circuit breaker. Your time in China and Vietnam sound wonderful.

    Penguin, enjoy those cuppas! ☕️☕️☕️

Cali, at least those scales sometimes give nice surprises!

Here are some pictures from my granddaughter
    🎈🎈🎈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈💧💦🍏🍎🍐🍊🍋🍓🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍊🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍊🍍🥒🍠🍆🍑🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍎🍎🍎🍎😃😃😂😂🤣☺️😗🙃

Good morning all. Loving your granddaughters pics Cinque. Have been reading posts but not posting often of late as I’ve been a little pre-occupied the last few weeks.

After being single for the last 6 years I’ve connected with someone that I’ve known on and off for the last 30 years and am happy (very happy) to announce that I am now in a relationship. I’m being swept off my feet at the moment, feeling like a teenager again, my heads in the clouds…..you get the picture folks !! I’m bursting with happiness so I just had to share this with you.

Gday, I am so happy for you! There is no feeling quite like being in love, in a new relationship. ❤️❤️😻❤️😍👅🌼🌸❤️

More than halfway through my Monday FD and it’s going well. Had a tin of pink salmon for lunch 180 calories and that’s keeping the hungry bugs away. 😄 Not eating carbs during the day does seem to make it easier.

Cinque, tell your granddaughter thank you for all the lovely pictures. Here’s some for her: 😻😸🌼🌺🌻🍄🍿🤸🏼‍♀️🐿🐬🐠🐢🐝🐥🐣🐒🐯🦁🐭🐰🐮🐸

Gday, how wonderful for you, so much grief in the world it’s lovely to get feel good stories. Doesn’t matter how old you are that feeling of being love and cherished is exciting.

Haven’t posted in awhile but I’m still lurking and it was good to see CM and JJ back.

My weight is up and down still hovering around 68/69. Still doing my FD’s, Tuesday/Thursday and most Sunday’s . In the last month I did a rocket ship cake for my four year old grandson and a teapot cake for a friend that was a surprise both for her and me that I actually did it.

Went to Canberra last week for a few days and off to Brisbane middle of the month. I’m getting very tired with the responsibilities of Mum and Dad and realise that if I don’t start taking care of myself I’ll end up worn out.

Thin and Cinque you will be happy to hear that I have booked my overseas trip for 25th March next year and having six weeks away. I figure it is about time my brother stepped up and looked after Dad.

I probably won’t post very often as I get overwhelmed with how many come through now but I do read them all and I’m there in spirit.

Hello to Merry, Joffy and Minka hope all is going well for you.

These are the cakes, hopefully…. Please let me know if the link doesn’t work

    Good morning all,

Well it has been an emotional long weekend for us. As you all know my husband’s family all started arriving last Thursday and we had night after night of cooking for 12 people. Not to mention the wine we all had too. The last night everyone could be together was Sunday night as an uncle had to leave on Monday morning so we all went out to dinner at the newly opened restaurant of Cairns Aquarium. Sunday was a very emotional day for us as we headed out to second reef where my husband would take his father fishing. We were all so silent as my husband scattered his father’s ashes and we sat there quietly saying our goodbyes. With all this going on we had totally forgotten it was our Wedding Anniversary!!

So with everyone now on planes heading home I can get back to normal and continue my weight loss journey. This mornings weigh in was a weight gain which I was expecting but thank goodness it was only 2kg. This is probably all the wine and I am hoping it will come off again as quickly as it went on. I did eat very healthy as I prepared all the food most of the time.

FD for me today and tomorrow!!

Gday, I was so happy for you reading your post. I would send little pictures like the others too but dont know how to do that!! Anyhow everyone is young at heart so love is always exciting. This is your time so lap it up and enjoy!!

Intesha, good to hear from you again. Glad that you are still keeping up with reading the posts.

I dont know what the world is coming to. The mass shooting in the US, the two women stabbed in France and North Korea putting fear in us all. Why cant we just live in peace?

    Hi Everyone
It’s so sad with all these things happening I the world atm. I just can’t imagine why people kill and injure other people
Gday, so happy for you, enjoy this special time 💕
Cinque, have fun with your granddaughter. 2 of mine are coming today as a special school holiday sleepover. I will have them again Thursday as my normal day
Intesha- that teapot cake is AMAZING!! Where are you going for your overseas trip?
Penguin, I’m yet to do a fluid only fast. I’m sure I’d be tempted to have a small bowl of OH soup. And then b2b? Something to aspire to…maybe 😀
Lindsay, that weight will come off easily. I’m in the same boat. I put on 1.4kg last weekend. 1 fast and down a kilo – still wish I’d not indulged so much tho.
JustJulie-the goodbye ceremony for your late FIL sounds very moving. I think it was lovely for the family to get together like that
My FD yesterday was very good, less than 400 cals and DH and I went for a nice walk. The dog jumped in fright when sniffing an echidna. 😀 I don’t think he was pricked ( he didn’t yelp) but just got a fright when it moved. Today I’m doing a controlled day. 16:8 small lunch and a small steak and steamed veggies for dinner

Have a great day all, xx

    Hi all,

FD for me. I really need it today as I definitely ate too much yesterday – my jeans felt tight this morning. That’s my line in the sand when it comes to weight.

GDSA – congrats, and thanks for the good news story.

Stay – glad the FD went well. Glad you get to see echidnas – I’ve never seen then in the bush here, just in reserves.
another Aussie animal you’ll have to look up Cali – this one is a monotreme – lays eggs but feeds it’s young milk.)

JJ – hope the B2B FDs go well and undo the effect of the weekend.

Lindsay – baking can a bit of a minefield. I found I had to take certain steps to control the sugar snacking. Making a whole cake rather than muffins helps as log as I can resist the raw batter (I just keep thinking about the raw eggs and let that deter me). Also sending all left overs home with guests helps. Sometimes however, the lure is too much and one taste turns into several slices. I have tried baking on a FD when I can’t touch the baking but that can be difficult too if you aren’t having a good day.

Cinque – your grand daughter’s pictures are lovely – I notice she has a particular fondness for fruit – that’s a good sign.
Thanks for the puzzle link – it feel a bit like doing a rubics cube but with numbers.

Intesha – lovely cakes. I particularly like the teapot – but then as a tea addict I would be drawn in that direction.

Cali – sorry to hear you have yet more tragedy on your shores.

Penguin – well done getting through another B2B. I agree that the cuppas really help get through a FD – but I doubt they’d get me through 2 in a row.

If I’ve missed anyone – hope you are having a great day.

I’ve really enjoyed my first pot of tea for the day – very tempted to get a refill.

Lucky last to post from WA.

Stay happy GDSA. Hello little Miss Three. Lovely send off to celebrate the life of JJulie’s FIL.

Where are you heading Intesha? Is it South Africa? I thought of you yesterday as someone sent me a video of cake-making steps to achieve a cockroach, a skull, the inside of a hound’s mouth and other weird stuff. Glad that your hobby yields more pleasing themes.

CalifD, which are the other two BF albums of your OH? While you were listening to Avalon (my fave song is More Than This), I was dancing to Dylanesque.

Stay, I thought that most of that 1.4kg would be off by today. Don’t worry, you’ve learned from the weekend’s over-indulgences. We’ve all done it and continue to do it but you’ll find that it happens less frequently and with greater restraint the longer you stick to this WOL.

GDay. Well done and well timed. As others have said – we needed some good news. Enjoy that teenager feeling and make it last.

Thin, the other two Bryan Ferry albums are Boys and Girls and Bete Noir. Dylanesque, yeah! Dance it out! I need to do more of that.

Flourbaby had posted a link in the October Challenge thread: http://100down.org/the-whoosh-effect/ That makes so much sense and the last couple of weeks have certainly borne that out. I did some crazy eating over the weekend (and Friday) but my FD yesterday brought me back down to 60.5, a loss of .7 overnight. I think one other thing that may help in getting that water weight to budge is to eat low carb on a FD. Yesterday I ate salmon, broccoli, a big apple and creamer in 2 cups of coffee, totaling about 470 calories. I’m not a fan of low carb dieting but a low carb day once in a while seems to move the scale. Or maybe just helps to make a Whoosh happen.

60.5 kg today. My goal is 59 but I’d like to get to 58 so I have a little wiggle room. The last kg’s always seem to be the hardest to lose!

Good morning, 68.6 after FD yesterday. Hopefully my mind is back in gear and that number will gradually decrease. 7 months ago my lowest was 64.5 however fleeting.

I am going to the UK to visit my daughter and then doing a side trip to either Malta or Europe and a few days in Dubai on the way Home.

    Good morning everyone
So nice to have good news to celebrate.

Gday, such wonderful news and hooray for such happiness!

Intesha, I am so, so pleased to hear your news too. You really DO need to look after yourself, and I know that trip is the best possible way for you to do so! Hooray for travelling! March will be here before we know it! All that lovely planning to do in the meantime!

Your cakes are so wonderful, and ofcourse the teapot is my favourite too!
Congratulations on yesterday’s fast day, and cheers for a good day today.

JJulie, yours wasn’t exactly good news, but it is wonderful for a family to come together and farewell your FIL in such a meaningful way. I bet you are just exhausted now so I hope you can rest and do the little kind things for yourself that you need.

Cali, congrats on your fast day. Yes the last kilos take longest, but that is okay, gliding in gently for a smooth landing is the go, and it gets you set for the ongoing maintenance. That is my philosophy anyway.

I really like the article you linked, it makes sense and almost makes it seem as if it is all scientific and sensible and and not a mischievous djinn in the scales after all! 😉

I showed Josie your lovely emojis just before I took her home. She loved them!

Cheers for your good fast day Stay, that should have got you over the bumpy time on the weekend (which we call scientific research: analyse, and move on!).

LJoyce I hope you had an excellent fast day, nothing like tight trousers to make it fastier! I’m enjoying my daily sudoku and glad you like 2048, your description is just right!

    Thin, happy Fast Day today.
Penguin you must be finshed your B2B, hope you are feeling great!
    Hello everyone else too!

It is a beautiful day here, I hope it is as lovely where you are.

Morning Cinque, thank you. I’m looking forward to it. One A&C milk coffee down on this sunny Perth morning. Weather all over the place from 17C one day to 25C the next. Are you fasting today?

CalifD, 60.5kg! That’s great. How tall are you? (I can process feet and inches). I hover between 59. something and 61kg. I’m at the upper end today due to a slow creep with a little bread here, a tiny portion of spaghetti there. Today’s fast will help. So your OH was a BF fan in the eighties. Loved ‘Boys and Girls’ and have the CD in my car.

Intesha, that trip is something to look forward to. Hope the lurkers are doing alright, Merry, Joffy, Minka, CM, Pintinlin.

Thin, I’m 167 cm. So my BMI is 21.7 as of today. With all this up and down between FD and NFD, at least I know how to maintain.

Cinque, I still believe there is a mischievous djinn hiding in my bathroom scale. 😎

Intesha, I love your cakes, especially the teapot one. You are so talented! Your planned trip sounds wonderful. I’ve always wanted to go to Dubai. It seems like there’s so much to see there. Would you go up to the top of the tallest building? (Do they even let tourists go up there?)

Penguin, how did your B2B go? Is all the home painting and decorating stuff finished now?

Stay, I had to look up a picture of an echidna. They are so cute! It kind of looks like a very large hedgehog with a very long nose. I’m discovering a lot of new animals and birds being on this thread and talking with all of you. When I was looking up music when you were all discussing Countdown the other day, I came across this song, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ceWKrsJX9N4 which must be a traditional Aussie song. I think I heard it before from a memorial service after Steve Irwin died. It’s the kind of song I can’t get out of my head now.

    Good morning all,

Well yesterday ended up as a fail FD. Took 18YO to the new Aquarium and spent about 2 hours wondering there taking heaps of photos along the way. Then she was hungry!!
As we were in the city she asked to take me to my favourite chinese shop that sells lovely vegetarian noodles which she likes. My downfall is their chicken curry which I ate every day when I was pregnant with her as I was working opposite this restaurant. Of course the thought of that wonderful curry was too much for me.

Weight today did not change from yesterday so not too much damage done with the Chicken Curry. So FD for me today and tomorrow!! Just finished making a mushroom and spinach soup which will go down fine for today.

Sorry for the quick exit before……MIL turned up.

    Reading through the posts…..

CalifD, I am so glad you looked up the echidna. I guess I just thought everyone would know what one is, but forgot about our friends from overseas. These beautiful little guys are often found in backyards and on the side of roads. Unfortunately some of them dont make it across the road. ☹️ I also watched the link to the John Williamson song. It is not actually a “traditional” song but it is in the hearts of most Australians as the words say at lot to us. It was sung at Steve Irwin’s funeral or memorial service, I believe. Steve Irwin died on 4th September 2006 at Batt Reef, Cairns. Cairns is the place where I live and I always feel sad that his untimely death happened here. I actually know a lady who is a nurse who was one of the first people to give him first aid when it happened and because we are in the marine industry know many people involved in his emergency evacuation from the area to the hospital. So so sad. ☹️

For the nature lovers this link will take you to my facebook album Cairns Botanical Gardens https://www.facebook.com/julie.skarstrom/media_set?set=a.10209705432300237.1073741853.1463072948&type=3

And my other link Cairns Aquarium https://www.facebook.com/julie.skarstrom/media_set?set=a.10210107491311461.1073741854.1463072948&type=3

I hope the links work so you get an idea of where I live.

    Hi all,

The nurse just left, so treatment is done for another month. It was meant to be last week, but she had shingles and can’t treat patients while infectious.
I feel really tired (a normal reaction to the medication) but otherwise good so I’m hoping that means few side effect this time.

Yesterday’s FD went well but I still feel bloated and heavy so I’m aiming for a very careful week to get back to normal.

Cali – thanks for that link, it does reinforce what I already believed about body weight and scales. It would be easier if we could just accurately measure the weight of our body fat – but that’s impossible on home scales – there are some that offer it but it’s not a particularly accurate measurement method.
I find it’s not just the fluid retention described in the article that causes issues with confusing weight. Inflammation does as well and also hormones.

FD Monday, and dropped my weekend weight. Phew! Then lunch out with an old friend yesterday, but I was careful and the scales didn’t move up this morning, so fasting again today, in the hope that I drop .5 from last week’s weight. If not, another FD on Friday, which will be tough because I’m prepping for a colonoscopy 🙁
Thanks LJoyce for the cake tips – I find if I put the bowl under running water immediately it takes away the temptation. But those chocolate buttons brought me undone. No baking now until next birthday in December.
Cinque I love your granddaughter’s emoji art. My eldest GD is 4 – often I get a text message in the mornings with loads of hearts and kisses and animals. Sweet isn’t it?

    Good afternoon everyone,
Slack poster, earnest reader of posts here so I thought I’d better contribute.
FD finished this morning but with an extra early start I only got to take a coffee. I considered carrying on for a B2B, due to the fantastic way you feel the morning after a FD, then thought otherwise just keep it simple. My scales are stuck at 107kg at the moment. I haven’t been too outlandish but I do indulge at times. All this is OK with me as I am in no rush, my clothes recently purchased still fit great and I feel good too.
I reckon I might have to give up bread but that would nearly tougher than giving up beer. I will go with the wait and see approach for a couple more weeks as the weather is warming up and coming into salad season.
StayinThin I had an echidna in my backyard a couple of months ago. I will have to learn how to upload my photo’s of the nature I come across.
Thinatlast and CalifDreamer I like Bryan Ferry’s version of Jealous Guy not many do a cover better than the original especially of a John Lennon song.
LJoyce and Cinque see if you can guess what my meals for the day were yesterday.

Hello Joffy, you’re getting close to double digits now! Love ‘Jealous Guy’ too! To post a photo (assuming you already have it on your ‘device’), go to https://imgur.com/upload and drag or paste the photo into the box. Then use the URL they give you to paste here. Credit: Cinque.

JJulie, I remember that photo of you in front of the Japanese blossoms from when you shared your Japanese FB page a couple of years ago. You have a cool last name!

    Time for my cauliflower soup.

Hi everyone. I’m new to all this having only done my 1st FD two days ago. I live in Australia & find your comments very inspirational. Hoping I can join your group. Best wishes to all.

Welcome Arelkade, Of course you can join the group and we welcome you. Lots of people here have helped me and others along the way. I started about 2 years ago and lost 10kg. I have just rejoined again as I put that weight back on plus some more.

You will find that there are not only Australians here but New Zealanders as well as some lovely folk from the Northern Hemisphere who offer heaps of help and encouragement. If I have left anyone out sorry as I have not met everyone as yet either.

If you have any questions please ask away.

Thin, I am surprised you remember the photos of my Japan FB page. I still post on this with each trip to Japan I do. I also have a Japan Travel Information page where I am just posting travel information tips for Japan. And thanks for thinking my surname is cool. It is often pronounced incorrectly as it is not pronounced exactly as it is spelt with the umlaut over the letters. I kept my name even after I married and even one of my daughters has taken it on with a hyphen to my husband’s surname.

I have taken up Japanese drumming (Taiko) and tonight is lesson night so better get going!!

    have a good evening everyone.

Ok, see if this works: https://imgur.com/a/Kn6nX It’s a tray I put together a few months ago for brunch with some neighbors. I love the idea of doing appetizers and such using the tray. It’s just an inexpensive melamine tray but it’s sturdy and easy to wash. It’s fun trying to create something visually interesting.

Thank you, thin and Cinque for the imgur link. That’s easy to use.

    Hi Arelkade
Welcome to the group – I’m a newcomer too, and have had a great welcome. I’ve been doing this 5:2 for just over a month, and it really works. I’ve lost about 4 kilos (with many more to go unfortunately) 🙂
Joffy I struggle with bread too (and with gin and tonic and red wine), so I’ve compromised. Even on non FDs I eat good grainy bread with breakfast, mostly with a boiled egg, then hardly at all for the rest of the day. I have also given up my evening G & T, but still have red wine Friday and Saturday nights (but not too much ….a shared bottle with my husband, and I let him have more than half). It seems to be working.

CalifD, that’s my kitchen forte, making colourful salad platters! That looks tasty. What’s the black bean/berry? Here’s a recent one of mine https://imgur.com/OF9EHYC Everyone knows I don’t like beetroot and was amazed that I’d included it in this salad platter. But it’s purple carrots!

Welcome Arelkade! Where do you live please? I ask because I could do with some representative help over on this side of the continent.

Lindsay, before 5:2, those would have been a few of my favourite things. Now I hardly think of them. I used to love a G&T – or two – while making dinner. If I have one nowadays, I usually can’t get it all down. And I seem to have lost the taste for wine altogether.

JJulie, I’m glad you told me that’s an umlaut because I didn’t want to show my ignorance!

Thin, that’s a beautiful salad tray! And the purple carrots do look like beetroot. What kinds of cheese are those?
The black bean/berry? Do you mean the little capers in the light green silicone muffin liner? I love capers! To the right of those are different colored cheery tomatoes.

Welcome Arelkade! How did your first FD go? Did you find it easier than you thought it would or difficult? It’s surprising how quickly they become second nature. I have a few staples that I eat on most fast days, things that are easy and that I like a lot. I usually go for the largest quantity for the least calories. Soups are always a good choice because they’re filling.

Joffy, I still eat bread, just not as much of it. And I try to be sparse ith the spreads or toppings. What would I do with my Vegemite if it weren’t for sourdough bread? 😁 BTW, I discovered yesterday that one of my local grocery stores carries Vegemite! They charge quite a bit more than Amazon does though. But I may have to buy it from them when I run out, just because I think it’s cool that they stock it.

Julie, that’s so sad that Steve Irwin died off the shore of Cairns. It must have been so sad living nearby. Everyone here was shocked when it happened. Americans loved him too.

LJoyce, I hope you keep feeling good after your treatment. Maybe the better weather will make a difference. This is a good time of year when neither of our countries is too cold or too hot. Our temperatures are similar on a lot of days lately.

Morning all. B2B going well. The original plan was a fluid only fast from early evening Sunday until noon Wednesday. Three and a half hours to go. I actually permitted myself a glass of kefir Mon/Tues evenings and a small piece of bread and Double Gloucester at 5pm Tuesday because I had a physical evening ahead of me. The bread was of my own baking so I know what was in it. I am down 7 pounds. I had grown complacent after hitting my target in August, to the extent of thinking of new targets. So naturally I gained a few pounds. Thats now under control – a two day total fast works well for me.

Arelkade welcome. I’m pretty new here myself. I got here via the scientific papers thread and have stayed even though I live in England. Your evening posts are my morning news. The nearest I have been to the southern hemisphere was Singapore so I occasionally have to resort to google to find out what everyone is talking about!

Lindsay, I used to love G&T and drank them often in the summer. Then someone introduced me to Campari and soda and I started drinking those for a while. Now I seem to get headaches the next day even from wine so I don’t drink much.

Capers! Oh, I wouldn’t have guessed that. Perfect for the smoked salmon. Yes I like those different coloured cheery tomatoes as you called them. They are cheery! The cheese in mine was a Danish feta. The photo is a little out of focus.

One of my favourite summer FD meals is 50gm smoked salmon, 80gm steamed asparagus and a poached egg. 1tbs FF Greek yogurt mixed with fresh dill and lime for a dressing. 195cals.

Hi LJ, I seem to have overlooked your post today. Penguin, I don’t know how you manage that – virtually a 3 day fast. What happens at noon today? I think I’d be heading for the pub.

All I can say is, it’s a good thing I’ve just eaten dinner. After looking at the photos of those yummy platters I’d be ready to attack the fridge if I didn’t already have a full tummy. Not that I’d find anything as interesting as or pretty as that to snack on. I did actually cut up some carrot sticks and cheese sticks today, but that was the extent of my artistic creativity.

Joffy – hello, good to hear form you again. Yes I can guess, when it comes to your FDs you are reassuringly predictable.

Penguin – Double Gloucester and homemade bread – now that’s a way to break a fast. Well done on the 7 pound Penguin – does that get you back to your original goal?

Arelkade – Welcome to our eclectic group. Hope you are going well with 5:2. If you have questions about don’t be afraid to ask. Just don’t expect us to stay on topic – I don’t think we’re capable of that! We seem to go off on the oddest tangents.

Hi Thin, Cinque, Cali, Lindsay, Stay, Intesha, and anyone else who’s reading.

I’ve had a very quite afternoon – a bit of reading, some logic puzzles and a short walk. I’m trying to not to fall asleep too early as it completely upsets my sleep pattern – but an afternoon nap is always hard to resist on the afternoon after treatment. I’ve made it to 7:30pm so I can stop distracting myself and go to bed soon.

Very pleased to not have much appetite today so for once my controlled day actually lived up to its name. I’m hoping for another the same tomorrow – in fact a week of those would be appreciated – do you think that’s too much to hope for?
