  • Hi Nap, hi all,
So exciting you can see you are getting smaller, Nap! That’s the best!
I had an unusual Fast day yesterday. I started with my usual cuppas, but then I wasn’t hungry. At about 2pm I had such a lovely bowl of miso soup, and I still didn’t get hungry, so I just had water for the rest of the day.
I wonder what I will be like next Fast day?
I loved the little sachet of miso my daughter had. I think I will invest in them. If I keep having miso soup on Fast days I might eventually go to The Friends of The Earth shop in Brunswick where they have big tubs of different miso types, and buy some there.
I’ll have fun putting up soup recipes, but it is so individual, what we like. I always think I have slightly odd tastes! And I love finding recipes from different parts of the world. In my multicultural part of Melbourne it is easy and fun to find ingredients, but then it can flummox people!
Anyway, it is fun sharing, and see what things suit.
I think that chicken and bacon casserole might suit a lot of people!
    Good day!

Hi All – I’ve read the last few pages, so feel like I’ve caught up on things. I feel like Sept/Oct have been a bit wasted with holidays and then up a kg one week down the next… all month with the final tally being a gain of .8kg for Oct… trouble is, FDs go well, but bread kept appearing in the weekends (made a beaut bread pudding) and just living too well in the weekends. So this last weekend I consciously avoided the carbs, thai salads for lunch, and straight into FDs this week which I’m feeling stronger and more determined at, so hopefully I can get back to making some progress –

Also, my exercise is nearly back to what it was before my holiday/back episode mid Sept, and while I’m exercising more, I’m also eating more, so need to reign that in.

JJ – your reno sounds very stressful, so I hope it doesn’t go on too long! And well done on your 11kg loss.

Bay – I hope you had a lovely B-day last week!

After reading the first email I’d received from 5:2, I have started weighing daily, just so I can start to get a feeling for how my body reacts, because when I do it occasionally, and see such big jumps, it might be easier to take if I know what’s normal.

Coast – a great idea for your 8kg treat and no calories involved

Nap – I too struggle with an OH who unintentionally dangles ridiculously nice aromas in front of me (like when I’ve made salad and he has cheese rolls/pizza!) – thankfully he’s gone along with my suggestion to sneak his chips/crisps into the man cave so I don’t have to see him eating them. So good for him that he reached goal weight and is back to eating like a horse for 5 days and the 2 FDs just keep him at the right place, and I think over 3+ months he’s lost another kg, so this really is a great way to live if you keep the fasting going.

Happy fasting if today’s your day!

Thanks for the nice welcome! First fast after quite a break. No headache so far. Only had a miso soup & diet coke so far. Dinner is bolgnaise sauce & steamed veggies. Family will get pasta as well.

Hi Jane, so glad! May the headaches stay away!

Morning, All. Another dreary day here in Canberra – I long to wake up to sunshine after a few days of this!

Good the headache stayed away, Jane.
Cinque, thanks for the ideas of soup. And what a great FD you had!

FD today, but I have not planned for it at all. My son comes back from Melbourne today, and he will want dinner – so I don’t know what to do. I thought I would just do that chicken and bacon casserole again – but don’t have all the ingredients, so back to the drawing board!

Talking of eating disorders, I come from a background of eating disorders, and now have a very obese son (he is 21 now) – which breaks my heart. As his mother, I must have done something wrong to start him on this path and I have tried all sorts of things to help him (we went to a nutritionist when he was young, a dietician, Dukan diet and WW when he was a bit older) – but he doesn’t seem to care or want to do anything about it. I had hoped that, when I started my weight loss journey 12 months ago that he would want to follow suit – but he has no desire to change. It really does break my heart and I feel so guilty about it all.

    Good morning everyone,
It is grey and rainy in Sydney too. Reminds me of home! Tomorrow I will wake up home in Melbourne!

Nap I hope you find something good to make for dinner tonight.
It is so hard to be a mum, you can’t help but blame yourself for every problem your kids have. It is clear you did everything you could think of when he was growing up.
Ah well, he is an adult now and will make his own decisions. What can we do but love them the way they are, and keep our fingers crossed they make good decisions for themselves.

I’m having my first cuppa of the day and my last morning, for a while, of watching kids shows wth little granddaughter Josie. I will miss her so much when I go home. ( next thing, she’ll be 21).

Well I succumbed to standing on the scales again and it said 58kg this morning. It is counting my fourth month kilo off a couple of weeks early.

Best wishes for a good day, cheers to the fasters.

Finally got the yard ready for the bushfire season. I managed to lose 5.5 kgs for the month of October. Total loss since August 1 is 14.2 kgs. I have dropped a couple of dress sizes. Alas the weight is still on the stomach. It has only now started to move. My next goal is to get my waist down under 77.5 cm half my height. Under the safe measurement for women. I feel as I can achieve this. My mindset seems to have changed. The Christmas catch up in the first week December will cause a stir. Enough of a change at my grandson’s first birthday that tight outfit is now to loose. The next job during the next hot spell is to clean out the wardrobe getting rid of all my fat clothes, that will leave me with two dresses and one pair of cheap jeans. Going from size 18 to 12. When it stops then I can start to buy again.

    Well done GL502 ??
The best part of 5:2 is needing a new wardrobe. ???????

It’s a good idea to Keep looking at the sales so you know when to buy. A tip is to try on very different styles of clothes from different labels. We all have lots of habits to overcome and we don’t know what suits our new shape. Where we used to hide our bits and pieces, now it’s time to show them off. New underwear is the best starting point. ??
    Cheers, Bay

Wow, Cinque 58 kg. ?. What is your goal? Well done, Bay ?

Well done Cinque & GL5012. Hurray for 5:2!

So right Bay, I bought another pair of shorts yesterday – I’m comfortably in a size 10 now. A year ago, I’d have been so happy to get into size 14. Much of what’s on offer doesn’t appeal to me at all now – very baggy tops to hide everything whereas I’m looking for nicely fitted clothing. I bought a lovely size 12 shirt last summer but it’s like a tent and I tried tucking it in but there was just too much of it. I’ve worn it twice. I’ve just realised that I really like my body for the first time in decades. Too bad about the old looking face.

Hi to everyone else, I’m afraid I haven’t had time to read all the posts lately so I’m just reading the last few whenever I log in. Hope everyone’s going well.

Good morning from grey and rainy Melbourne.

GL, congratulations on your success, with the yard, as well as with your health. Hope that belly starts shrinking nicely now. Isn’t it weird how our bodies decide which bits to shrink in what order! Everyone seems to go differently.

Bay, you are so right about that new wardrobe!
I think my goal is something like 53 kg, but in real terms I am looking at no more flabby bits than I can expect at my age ( ooh look, right now my age in years is the same as my weight in kilos!).

Just yesterday I noticed I had done one of those jumps where I could see I had lost weight, and feel it. It’s lovely.

Thin, I am the same, all of a sudden I can’t stand shapeless clothes! I do get to try on lots of brands, even lots of eras! ? As I am an avid op shopper. At the moment I am mainly in size 12 – 14 tops and size 12 trousers.

Even my old looking face is looking a bit better!

I’m thinking of fasting today, since I can (a fast in the hand is worth 2 in the bush!) . I’ll nick up to the shop to get miso paste, and check the op shop on the way! And then I’ll start work on all this STUFF I am behind with!

    Hi Cinque

Grey and wet here too. Vegetable soup today. Am fasting before going out to look at clothes. I’ve ended up a size 12 all over. ??

    Cheers, Bay

NikT. Thanks for wishes. Bay ?

Good morning, everyone. Another rainy day here in Canberra again – the dogs have not been for a walk for days, poor things.

It is so encouraging to read how you are all going so well.

A good FD yesterday, and am looking forward to Saturday mornings weigh in. I think I have 3 more kilos to lose to get into the overweight BMI, which is very exciting. It must be nearly 20 years since I was in the overweight BMI, so a huge milestone for me.

Thanks for the kind words, Cinque. Yes, I suppose all we can do is love our kids for who they are – but it is heart breaking, all the same.
Awesome though that you have had one of those jumps and you notice a difference.

Have a great day, everyone :-).

Good morning from sunny Perth. This is the second week I’ve weighed in heavier after a FD. What’s going on? Last week, I dropped the weight two days after the FD so I’m hoping that’s what will happen this week as I want to impress my GP with the new me tomorrow. (Keeping in mind that this fluctuation falls within a one kg range which has been stable for a few months now so not really anything to moan about, just an observation). It’s just not very rewarding to wake up at the high end of that range after a FD. Maybe a 5km walk with some HIT will do the trick.

Sorry to hear about your son Naptime. That must be hard to watch. Apparently, my step-brother who I haven’t seen in many years is the same. He just doesn’t care. All you can do is approach it from the aspect of being concerned about his health & longevity. I’ve mentioned before on this thread about my walking buddy who’s watched 5:2 work so well for me but does nothing for herself (94kgs) and her two daughters aged 19 and 20 who weigh in at over 110kgs each (maybe more). It’s very sad to see but none of them care enough to change.

Well hello Thin in sunny Perth. After a morning of rain rain rain there is actually a little bit of sun shining outside here in Melbourne too! Are you getting any sun Nap? Anyone else?

Nap I will say cheers now for a good week, since those scales are always so irascible! I do hope you have made your milestone, or got so close, that you know it is in reach.

Merry, you haven’t posted since we all made rude noises about you eating birthday cake. SORRY!
Except I would rather you have been away because you have been irritated at us sounding too sanctimonious, than it be because you are ill and suffering. Or maybe the new medication is difficult.
Anyway, I am sending good wishes, and fellow cheer if you are Thursday Fasting today.

    Hi Cinque

What a lovely message to read on a very grey day. I am fasting and it is way harder than Monday’s fast which was an absolute doddle. ??

Am seeking solace on the thread as I have only had black coffee and vegetable soup today, nothing else. For me, it is harder to fast on very grey days. Instead I’m thinking of the garden and the trees and how much they love the rain. ??

    Cheers, Bay

    Thin
Sorry about the scales. Is it type of food? Is it your body totally adjusted to balancing your energy in and energy out? Maybe you’ve reached your end point. Who knows! We just have to keep on keeping on for the sake of your health. ??
    Cheers, Bay

Hi Bay are you still here?
What a SNAP! I fasted on Monday and I wasn’t hungry all day.
Today!!!!! Starving! Irritable! Concentration of a gnat!
    WAVES of hunger!
And I’m not going to let myself have my soup til 6pm!

I’ve just been ironing and listening to Leigh Sales and Annabel Crabb’s podcast (http://www.chat10looks3.com/)which I enjoy very much.

Just after I said there was sun here, facebook was alight with storm warnings. Missed me! I hear there was a tornado at Tullamarine.
Right now my place is full of light and birdcalls and a very happy garden!
I bought basil and coriander to plant too!

I believe Thin’s scales are just playing silly b^ggers and will show her proper weight the day after tomorrow, like they did last time!

A bit more ironing to do! Tea towels and two tricky linen shirts. Sigh.

    Go Fast Day, Go!

PS Yes I do iron teatowels! I’m a little bit crazy.

Don’t know what’s happening, I was still 60.7kg after my walk and again after the shower. Yesterday 60.2kg before the fast. I did eat about 420 cals yesterday but still can’t see how that should translate to an increase. I’m having fish & steamed veggies for dinner tonight so that had better get me back to the low part of 60 before I step on my doc’s scales tomorrow which are destined to read higher than mine. It doesn’t matter – it will probably take me many months of moving up and down between 60-61 before I accept that I’m at a stable weight. And then there’s the holiday lurking just ahead …..

You can do it Bay & Cinque. Chins up. (Sorry, that’s one chin each, not double chins). Think how good you’ll feel tomorrow. 😆

Just as I expected Thin! 😉

Well it is after 6:30 so I think I will go and heat up my soup.
I am glad to say that the hunger pangs I get now are just normal hunger pangs, not the intolerable, insatiable need to eat that I got when sugar was in my diet. And given that I have a chronic illness full of nasty symptoms, it is amazing I complain about them at all!
I am confident now (she says, with her fingers crossed that these aren’t ‘famous last words’!) that I can keep fast days lower calories, and give my body a proper break, you know, like 5:2 intended to be!

    Good job Cinque.

Well done Cinque and thanks, Thin, a boost is always welcome. ??

I had vegetable soup with a little Parmesan around 4 pm. I think I didn’t last until 7 pm because it’s both a Thursday fast and it’s on a grey rainy miserable day. I had some tuna for dinner at 7.30. I will be interested what the impact is, when I weigh tomorrow. I think that there will be less weight variation than I usually have after a fast.

    Cheers, Bay ????

    Thanks Thin! ?
It sounds like a good fast day to me Bay. Isn’t amazing that 5:2 worked straight away for me when my Fast days consisted of three cups of tea, with milk, a pot of coffee, with milk, a small bowl of porridge, with milk, a bowl of soup with a piece of toast, and then two cups of spiced cuppas, with milk.

But I am so pleased I have managed to make it Fastier.

And so pleased to have a non fast day today! Yum!

    Hello all the SH’s!
    ??

    Hi Cinque
I think everything worked when I first started because I was very disciplined on my non fast days. Now I am using my fasting days to balance my food intake for the week. It works for me on 5:2. Yay for non fast days.
    Cheers, Bay ?

Good morning all, just checking in. Sorry I have been a Bit distracted lately but still here and keeping on.

Had my official weigh and measure at the gym this morning, definitely in a plateau mode. The weight is going nowhere but that is good, lost a few cm’s but nothing to crow about.

Weight 72.9. Having lunch with a friend I haven’t seen this year so I think she will be quite shocked, she used to be one of the trainers at the gym.

I seem to be socialising a lot lately which is most unusual but I am enjoying catching up with people I haven’t seen in awhile.

Have a great day everyone and I avidly read all your posts.

Good to hear from you Intesha. Look forward to having you join us in the 60s soon! Enjoy those friends.

    Hi Everyone,
It is another rainy morning, but today they say it will clear, so I have a huge load of clothes on to wash.
I’ve also got two meetings this morning. Eep. But one is mostly a coffee with a friend.
Hope you had a lovely non fast day. I overate a bit! Corn chips and cheese! They caught up with me later I hope today is a bit more measured!

Best wishes to everyone for the weekend. Have fun socialising Intesha. Cheers Thin and Bay.

    Hi SH,

signing on after FDs last week (sorry a bit late)

I have just managed to get back to pre-birthday week long celebration PB!!!! yay!!!! let go of 9.5Kgs since 1st August.
that 2kg jump took three weeks to move. But haven’t been extremely strict on NFDs (including my limited carbs allowance) but keeping to 500cals (no carbs) on FDs (with some minor slip-ups).

My next goal is 5kg off and is only 3.5kg away.

am doing no excerise except for the physio for my shoulders after the surgery. I think I will start getting back into my ‘dance’ movement regime 🙂

    signing off,

    Coast

    Hi SH,

beautiful sunshine and blue sky here, after an evening of lightening and thunder and a little rain. The weather is perfect at the moment – nice and mild to warm; can still sleep at night

Am happy to read all your news as it comes through but I have to really resist the impulse to get on line and respond. Can’t believe how fast time is flying. 1 assignment down, the next one in progress, so I am still time poor.

Many of you are doing so well – congratulations to you all (Cinque, GL as well as the treat of you) – some of you are having trials and tabulations with which I totally empathise. Welcome to all the newbies.

Happy belated birthday Bay!!! Hope you had a lovely day 🙂

Cinque, I just bought a couple of packets of miso soup from the Happy Welcome Asian Market 🙂 I bought a packet of tofu for ‘stew’ and will chop in some shallots and mushrooms. I’d love to hear your additions to miso soup.

NikT, good to hear that your are deciding to be mindful about your food programme and to control things rather than let things get out of control. I have that issue with bread as well. What I do now is allow myself some when it is fresh and yummy and then freeze the rest or not have any around on purpose!!

Nap, that is really tough for you guys but I agree with Cinque – all you can do is lead by example – when he is ready he will make changes.

Hi Thin and Bay, can’t wait till I get to size 12 – keep inspiring me with your stories.

Hi Intesha, enjoy your socialising. Could that be part of the ‘plateauing’ issues?

    bye for now,
    Coast

This week I have managed to lose 300 g but better still 4 cm have come off my waist. My back is aching as my weight has shifted and it is getting used to where it is. I have been a bit off track with the diet as the two stormy days I was back to eating casseroles that I had in the freezer. I just can’t eat salads on cold days. We only had rain on one day the first real rain since the start of September.

The garden will take time as I am on a small acerage. We have changed a rose garden that did not do well into a hedged garden. It is growing well at the moment. There are still many parts that need planting out but my son is unable to come back as he is flat out with his job. I have got a local man (handyman/gardener) coming once a month to complete these tasks. I have tried to do them but can’t. With each job done it just feels good like a weight coming off.

Off the a film screening in which some locals where involved. We are doing it as a fundraiser and then going to coffee shop with the afternoon tea worked into the calorie count.

Thanks, Coast and well done in meeting your goal. Onwards and downwards. Cheers, Bay ??

Morning, all. Nice and sunny here in Canberra – so time to catch up on washing and gardening, I think.

Congrats, Coast! That is awesome you are back to pre-birthday weight.

Bay, what do you mean by using your fasting days to balance your food intake for the week? I know you are further along than me, but it helps to hear how others are managing.

Weigh in this morning- only lost 400g. But, better than nothing, I suppose. I’m not sure why it is so little again, I thought I was doing really well with my non fast days, and my FD are always under 500cals. Oh, and I was doing 4:3, as well. I am still struggling with what to have for lunches to eliminate some of those carbs, but other than that, I thought I was doing ok.

It is a bit frustrating when I feel like I am going without (I struggled with that this week, especially) 3 times a week and exercising everyday – and only lose such a small amount. And then, OH doesn’t fast, eats junk and doesn’t exercise and loses a kilo!! Argh!

I guess I will have to have more of a look at what I am eating on my non FD. And I need to find some other things for lunches, I think.

Sorry, don’t mean to complain – again.

Coast have hovered around the 73 mark since the end of September. I have been doing 4:3 for 8 weeks, and not overly eating when out so I just think the body is resting. I was hoping to get under 70 before I left for my trip but I am happy where I am for the moment.

I’ve never had miso soup, is it fishy?

    Hi Intesha,

to my taste buds miso is more a salty taste, sort of like vegemite.

Just had it for lunch – 2 sachets ( 2 cups of boiling water) with diced up tofu, mushrooms and shallots. I also added some garlic and chilli, just for good measure. Very filling. oh, I had a tiny little leftover bulgur and threw that in just to get it out of the fridge. So easy and so fast.

That hovering must be disheartening, especially doing 4:3. I tend to agree about the resting. I figure if you are doing all the right things, eventually the downward trend will get going again. Just a thought, have you gone back to basics and re-evaluated your calories for the NFD AND FD to take into account your new beaut lower weight?

I’ll have to do that soon too. Can hardly wait 🙂

    cheers,
    Coast

    Nap,

what are you on about???? LOL!!! your weight loss has been great!!!

400gms is half a kilo and that is 1 lb in the old weight scale, which is a terrific, and substantial loss of weight. That is what used to be recommended for weight loss – 1lb a week.

So just remember you are doing really well.

Regarding lunches – are you talking FD or NFD? Either way eggs have been my go to food. Omelettes or fritattas in all varieties, shapes and sizes. Packed with lots of veges in any combination – onion, mushroom, tomato, capsicum, grated zucchini, spinach – whatever your heart desires – with lots of spices like garlic, chilli, parsley, dill, thyme, whatever you particularly like. I have even thrown in beans – white, butter, chick pea. Only one thing to get used to NO BREAD :). Oh, and eat really slow and mindfully…….

On NFDs I make an egg crepe with egg mixed with fine oat bran and a touch of milk – 1 egg makes 2 large crepes. I then fill it with sliced wombok, red onion, cottage cheese, tinned tuna, a squish of mayo, sweet chilly sauce and then roll it up. and often have a salad of mesculan greens in french or italian low fat dressing.

I use a non-stick frypan with a spray of oil.

what exactly do you feel you are going without and feeling down about? Share it with us and I’m sure one of the more experienced 5:ers will have some advice that we can all learn from.

I can empathise about that aaarrggghhh!!!! feeling. We are all so different – I have a friend who has been trying to put on weight and has copious jars of peanut butter together with bread and butter and has only just put on a little and is complaining about that. another aarrrrrggghhh!! moment 🙂

As Bay said earlier – onwards and downwards!!!!

    hope that helps 🙂

    Coast

ps back to the books now 🙂

    Hi Nap

I have been maintaining for some 15 months. You ask what I mean by balancing energy in and out. Recently I have not been doing the Intermittent Fasting exactly as recommended by Dr Mosley.

Recommended IF says 5 days of eating at ones TDEE and 2 days eating at a quarter of TDEE. When I was trying to lose weight, that is what I was doing each week. I was also not eating any white food, no starch, no flour foods, no pasta, no rice, no breads or cereals, no sugars of any sort. No dried fruit or juice. This meant that I lost 15 kg in six months, and within that time I had 2-3 plateaus of 3 weeks at a time where I lost no weight.

When the weight loss happened, it was dramatic. I suspect because of the complete absence of white foods and processed foods. While I was on the plateaus, my shape rearranged itself. And I lost clothing sizes, one for each plateau, and arrived at size 12.

I want the health effects of IF, and am now fasting 2 days a week on fewer than 300 calories. Mostly homemade vegetable soups. And lots of water. However, I am eating over my TDEE (est 1621 calories on this site) when I feel like it on the non fast days. A real feast and famine effect.

Overall I am eating the recommended total of calories per week, but eating fewer on my 2 fast days. I think of it as balancing energy in and out over a week. Hope that makes sense. I don’t recommend this pattern for new fasters, as it’s important to get a feel for portion size, and to learn calories in food, and the nutrition of various types of food.

As soon as I commit to the next sugar free challenge, I will begin losing fat from around my middle, something I am looking forward to. I have an addictive response to sugar and sweet foods, in that if I have sugary food, then I want more, every two hours or so. It makes it so hard to not nibble.

Hope the above all makes sense to you. Sorry to go on so long.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

    Hi Nap

Coast is right. Well done on your achievements so far. Our posts crossed, but I endorse all she says.

One lb a week is considered a very good and sustainable amount to lose. Coast’s recipes are great. Common to most weight loss is the absence of bread and anything with flour in it.

I have eggs or salmon or a few raw nuts or some lean meat as my protein. If you don’t enjoy 4:3 why not go back to a stricter form of 5:2. Add up the total number of weekly calories you are eating on 4:3 and divide them into 5:2. Whatever you do, it has to be something that is yours and you want to do. Only you have the answers.

There is little point in comparing yourself with OH. Mine has never had to diet in his life. However, as he has moved into his 60s he has naturally moved to two meals a day, with a light snack if he feels the need. He is active every day.

Good luck! Frustration is human. ?????
    Cheers, Bay

Hello everyone, it is lovely to get on to the couch and check posts and find lots of contributions.
Washing and gardening day is exactly right! I got my washing on the line before I went to the meetings. Two really excellent meetings! Then I came home and had brunch.
Then I went to the nursery and came home and gardened for a couple of hours. That is HUGE for me. Fingers crossed I haven’t overdone it. But I have planted out rainbow chard, sweet basil, coriander, and little alpine strawberries. I shovelled compost, and pulled up violets ( that have been gently ploughing the hard earth for me). My garden is in pots at the front of my flat, and a little raised bed that you can buy these days. It is going well and I will have lots of things to add to my miso soup on Fast Days.

I bet it has been tiny compared to what you’ve been doing GL, but Oo isn’t it lovely to look at the work that has been done! ????

The washing is in now. I’m aching all over, but pleased. And getting hungry so I will have an early dinner. Just two meals today I think.

    Hi Intesha,
Re Miso soup, I agree with Coast that it is more salty/vegemitey. The miso paste itself has nothing to do with fish, but the soup is often tradtionally made with a stock that includes seaweed and bonito (fish) flakes. These just give it a lovely faint sea flavour though, not fishy at all.

I just bought a 12 pack of instant miso soup sachets http://shop.coles.com.au/online/national/hikari-soup-wakame-instant-miso (hmm, more additives than I realised!) These are delicious and easy. I use a bit more than a cup of water to a sachet.

In case you are interested here is a good article about it (Adam Liaw): http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/food-travel/the-magic-of-miso-soup-20150610-ghgv34.html

Cheers for being in good shape for your trip!

Hooray for your losses Coast, Nap, GL.
I definitely go in jumps. I have just had a nice one and look forward to taking my waist measurement on Tuesday.
You are pushing yourself hard Nap, so it must seem disappointing not to be going more quickly, but I agree with the others that you are doing just amazingly.
I hope you can give yourself some space so you don’t feel deprived all the time – without going backwards.
I roll my eyes at your OH. It just isn’t fair is it.

I was also thinking how hard life must have been for your son. Trying so many things and not getting anywhere. Feeling like he was disappointing others, as well as himself. And I bet he had to cope with teasing and bullying. It is no wonder he just needs to protect himself for a bit. Sometimes it is a strong and wonderful decision to just not care about your weight. I bet he needs to be in that space for a while.

Nap, enjoy 5:2 for what it is – a new healthy way of eating for life. Even the smallest weight loss is more satisfying than maintenance. Not that yours is any small loss. There have been many entries on these pages extolling huge losses. To be honest, I never thought that was a healthy way to lose weight and frankly, where are these people now? We don’t hear from them any more. When you get to your goal weight, you’ll have to deal with maintaining it which comes with its own set of challenges. Just do it for its own sake and the rewards will be yours! Who’s joining me for a fast tomorrow – Sunday?

Best wishes for a lovely Fast Day Thin!
It is Day before Fast Day for me!

    Hi all,
I’m good, just a bit full on atm, and reading about every 2nd day, so keeping up with your news 🙂 Will. Be back on in a few days.
    Hugs to all,
    Merry

Thanks Cinque. 59.9kgs this morning so looking forward to tomorrow’s weigh-in and hoping to lose a bit more for a new PB. Smoked salmon, asparagus & a poached egg for dinner.

Wow Thin, there will be nothing left of you soon. What is the so called ideal weight for your height?

I am fasting today, I have been adding Sunday as an extra but nothing much is happening but as we know this is a WOL and we just keep on keeping on.

Hi Merry, nice to hear from you.

I’m not sure Intesha, the doc told me I’ve lost an inch in height. My BMI is 22 so all is well. I’m not trying but if I happen to lose another kg before our trip, I’d be happy.

Maybe the 4:3 isn’t working because you don’t get such dramatic effects of feast and famine? I don’t know, it’s probably not worth trying to rationalise. I’m amazed that you can keep it up for so long. For how long will you be in the UK? Do you intend to do any fasting while there? What’s for dinner tonight?

Thin my BMI is 26. Maybe I should just go back to 5:2 if I don’t see a loss by this Friday I might have to rethink that.

I will be away for 7 weeks and hoping to fast occasionally but it will be Xmas/New Year. My daughter is very health conscious so there will be lots of healthy meals. When do you go?

Just had salad with some tinned red salmon and an apple.

Intesha, we’re leaving in two weeks. I aim to do one proper fast a week plus another day doing a semi-fast. I’ll keep the same fast days to help me try and keep to the routine.

Last Christmas I fasted twice a week throughout the season, I changed some days around but enjoyed anything I wanted. I didn’t lose any weight but I didn’t gain any either so I was very pleased. Of course I was at home which made it easier. But you might be able to do that at your daughter’s house – if you want to.

I’m still 59.9kgs as I was this morning so I might get lucky on the scales tomorrow.

    Good morning all.

Dare I hope that the plateau is over……..72.4 this morning.

Thin how long are you away and where are you going?

Hot in Melbourne! I will cover my seedlings before the sun comes around on them. I will have to use a bedsheet!
    Fast Day.
Note to self: drink even more water than normal!

Congrats Intesha! Hooray for the end of the plateau!

So glad you could pop in Merry. All good wishes!

    Cheers Thin!
