  • Hi everyone… Haven’t checked in since FOREVER ..so thought it was time.. I’ve checked out a few posts and once again, so encouraging to see new, enthusiastic people on here..I’ve finally hit the ‘healthy’ bmi range though my waist measurements not so yet! .. 18kg gone in just over a year .. I’m just at 70kg now ..fell off the wagon around July when we had visitors and a number of other events and put on 3 kgs .. Lesson well learnt ! I’ve gone from a size 16 (pushing 18)to a comfortable 12.. I feel I’m not there yet so I’ll keep going with this truly wonderful way of living ..I think someone asked about days of almost ‘binge’ eating .. Interesting and I find every 2-3 weeks I’ll have a day of eating everything in sight (and this can mean, Maccas breakfast, pies, twisties, French vanilla slice etc etc) I just go with it now and don’t feel bad (though admittedly, I can feel ill afterwards) I guess it’s just my body saying ‘yeah, you can do this BUT not every day ‘. Putting my thanks to all of you in here, especially the wise ones (you know who you are) .. So glad I got such sound advice and direction from others from the start .. Yay!

Good morning! It is a grey Melbourne morning, just beginning to get shiny.

Hi Hootinannie! I’m one of the new ones! I have a had a couple of FEAST days lately, the one last week involved battered fish and two potato cakes. But it was surrounded by days where I wasn’t very hungry at all, so at the moment I am thinking to just go with it.

I caught up on posts last night and got sidetracked by Coast’s suggestion that I write about my patties in the Recipe thread. It took ages! Oh the responsibility! I had an urge to go off and make several batches to make sure I had everything right!
I might try and make some soon and put up a photo.

Nap, Melbourne flung itself back into wintery weather too! (Although probably not as wintery as Canberra!). A bit of a shock! My daughter, son in law and darling granddaughter are arriving from Sydney tonight. I’m so excited. They are going to freeze! (SIL has to fly back on Sunday but I am going to fly back with my daughter and darling gg, on Wednesday, and guess what! I might get to stand on her bathroom scales!

Coast, if your B12 levels were low, the injection might make a wonderful difference. I hope so! Sending best wishes to you. It sounds like things are really hard at the moment. You have to go into the ‘whatever gets you through the night is all right, is all right’ stage. Then you can pick up and do all the good things, when you get to an easier place.
I’ve got a lovely little lotus shaped candle holder, and I have lit a candle for you. If the B12 injection doesn’t help, this surely will! 😉

I got my things done yesterday (4 not 5, whew!) and life is easier now.

Katty I agree about Fast Days being almost euphoric. I have had a few that aren’t, but generally I feel great as I go to bed, and even better waking up the day after my Fast Day. It makes me look forward to fasting.
I am so glad you are getting to do it with your partner. It will make it easier to sort out the food, and make for some good conversations. I was inspired to start when my friends, husband and wife, found it so positive.

I’m glad that coffee catch up was such a nice one, and CM is on the case for Slendier noodles!

Wow Bay, your mum is a great role model, and surely great genes too. I hope you have them!

EA so glad you have got online again!

Intesha, I hope you have a wonderful time at Vic market. I only recently found out that jam donuts began there, and are not known in the rest of the world!
I don’t eat such things any more, but luckily I can remember every bit of the joy (and pain – burnt mouth!) of eating them. Fabulous things!

Merry, I am glad the jetlag is fading and I hope you did some fab celebrating with your ‘0’ friends!

Hello everyone else. I will hit ‘submit’ and see if any posts have been added while I have been writing!

PS I am just wondering if I could Fast today. I think I can and, while I prefer to be organised and work up to Fast Days, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush! I have soup in the fridge, and the Moroccan chicken can wait til tomorrow. Yep I’ll do it.

    Cheers!

Hi EA, many say it’s hard to get back into the swing of fasting after an absence so next week will be easier. Good that you dropped the kg already.

HIA, you’ve done very well. Did you get rid of all the size 14-16 clothes?

Cinque, impressed that you can throw in a flash fast like that. Have a great day. The Moroccan chicken will taste even better tomorrow.

I’m cruising along at a steady 60-61kg where I’ve been for a few months now. It’s a good thing I’m happy with this weight as this would have been a very long plateau if I wasn’t calling it ‘maintenance’. Perhaps our bodies just tell us where we ought to be.

Have a great time at the Vic Markets Intesha. I used to love going there when I was living in Melbourne during my back packing days. I wonder how much it has changed since the ’90’s. Have fun.

    Hi SH

I’ve just enjoyed catching up on 3 pages worth while I ate my lunch (natural yoghurt with lots of frozen raspberries and a sprinkling of homemade nutty /oat germy / bran mix – beautiful!)

Was engrossed reading the big Carb post, very interesting to have a whole lot of facts in the one place – thanks Merry.

I’m back down to 77.3 (where I was 2 weeks ago) so just keeping on keeping on!

Have a great birthday, Intesha and enjoy the Vic Markets!

Oh dear dear. Had two jam donuts, picked at other treats and have lots more now waiting to be eaten. Love Melbourne. I was born here and worked here as well. It haven’t been back for a few years so much change but the Vic Markets stay the same.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes.

Aren’t granddaughters just the best Cinque?.. Having this latest little button was really the impetus for me getting healthy .. I really want to be around when she is 14 or so and karma returns on her own mum! I still have a few favourite country road shorts in size 14 Thin! I can’t quite give them up yet but I’ve just put out two big bags to the opshop knowing someone will appreciate them.. As I have…but I’m not going there again..I rely on my daughters to tell me when my clothes are baggy as I can’t see it .. Weird..and I still find I’m looking at the larger sizes when out shopping too..

Hello again, I posted to Intesha this morning thinking I was the first one, just logged back on and low and behold Hootinannie, Cinque and Thin popped up.

Good to hear from you again Hoot. Good to hear from you again and enjoy your time with your family. I have binge days and like you, I just go with the flow now. As long as we get back on track and do our fast days the odd binge day is going to be okay I reckon.

Thanks Cinque – have a fun fast day today.

Thanks Mrs Thin. Yeah, next week I should be all good. I may even throw a fast day in tomorrow as should be just hanging around at home. Off out for dinner tonight with friends so that’ll be interesting.

Well done Nik on getting back to the 77’s.

Hey Intesha, oh well, just enjoy them without feeling guilty (no fun in that). We know you will get straight back onto that fasting horse. I’m glad to hear the Vic Markets are the same. You are lucky to have been born in Melbourne. I loved it there when I backpacked and would gladly move over there and ride around in trams all day! I have a lot of happy backpacking memories of Melbourne but not been back since.

All the best Friday Fasters and a jolly good weekend to one and all.

Same EA, haven’t been to Melbourne since my back-packing days (although mine were in the previous decade to yours). That happens to me sometimes, I’ll post my entry and then several others will appear above and it has nothing to do with the time posted either.

Intesha, well it’s telling that you’re eating doughnuts and posting on here too – shows you’re mindful while you’re doing it. Have fun, please enjoy everything on offer – but if I was to be a little voice in your ear this weekend, it would just be to ask, “do you really need that second one?”. I’m not trying to be a killjoy but someone I introduced to 5:2 did ask me that question at a morning tea when the plate of cakes came round for the second time & I was deliberating over them – she said to me “five minutes from now, it won’t have made any difference whether you ate one or two, so just have one”. I don’t always follow it but I think it’s great advice.

About the doughnuts, my uncle was a bigwig at Hovis in the UK a hundred years ago. Have you ever bought a jam doughnut that had little or no jam in it? Here’s why: The doughnuts were injected with jam from huge jars that took big muscles to lift down from storage shelves. Late in the shift, the workers didn’t want to bother getting the next vat of jam out so they’d start injecting less, or none, and send the doughnuts out to the stores sans jam.

Welcome back on board NikT. And good for you HIA, ‘not going there again’.

lol, I love your uncles’story about the jam doughnuts Thin. One can feel quite robbed when a jam doughnut is lacking in jam! Do you remember the Hovis advert with the boy riding his bike? Ah, those were the days.

Yes, 1973. Just had a look at it on youtube. Makes you wonder what’s in a loaf of bread these days!

I hope you enjoyed every mouthful of those delicious doughnuts Intesha!
Many years ago I lived so close to the city that Vic Markets were where I did all my veggie shopping!

Flash Fast is a great term Thin! It has gone well, but in the hungry hours I was wondering why I did! I’m having my bowl of soup now and I hope it will keep me full for the evening.

What naughty workers at the doughnut factory.
I found the article about the hot jam doughnuts, it is the ‘hot’ we do differently in Melbourne (hence the memories of burnt tongue, lips, chin…. ) http://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne/food-and-drink/article/secret-history-hot-jam-doughnut.
I completely agree with that person who said ‘In five minutes time…’ It is a very useful thing to remember. (My mum who had seven kids used the same theory to my sister who had had four, about having babies: you always want one more… but if you have one, once you have had it… you just want another! 😉 )

Granddaughters ARE the best, Hoot! Oooh only a few hours now. The healthier the better with them! My little one is 14 months old. She went all shy on me on skype this morning, so I will see how long it takes before I get a cuddle!

    Cheers everyone!

Thanks for sharing that link Cinque. I can see the appeal of hot. Reading that, I was struggling to decide whether they sound delicious or disgusting. 😆

    Hi Hoot
Welcome back. Great to hear you’re fasting is going well.
    Cheers, Bay 🙂

Talking about doughnuts, I love the hot (jamless) doughnuts you get at the seaside in England.

Evening, all! Stop the talk about jam doughnuts – you all make me hungry, especially on FD! 😉

Cinque, thanks for posting the veggie burger recipe. I will make them for tomorrow night, I think.

It sounds like we all had a pretty productive day. I was hungry a lot today, but stuck with the fasting. How did other fasters go?

I have recovered well from my panic/disgust on Monday. My weight has dropped below what it was last Saturday, which I am very surprised about. I thought it would take me weeks to lose that extra 2.5kg again. I have avoided the carbs during the week, and have been very strict with myself – and feel like it has paid off.

Any good plans for the weekend?

    Hi Naptime
Well done. It sounds like the carb free week has paid off. ??
    Cheers, Bay

Good job Naptime, hurray, you’re on the downhill run. What are you having to eat on your FDs? I’m rarely hungry on mine, maybe we can help with some foods that will keep you feeling more full. When do you have your first food on a FD?

Morning, everyone. “Official weigh in this morning – lost 2.1kg since last Saturday. Woo hoo! I have now lost 30kg in all – 7kg of that since starting 5:2 5 weeks ago! I am one very happy chicken this morning. Only 22kg to go to my goal weight.

I bought some size 20 pants just when I started 5:2. I’m thinking they may have to go back and me get a size 18!! With the weight that is coming off, I won’t be able to wear the size 20 all summer. Luckily I am lazy and they are still in the bag with the docket…

Thin and Bay, thanks for the congrats. Thin, I usually have a few hunger pangs, but nothing some cold water doesn’t fix. And I don’t mind the hunger, it means I will be burning fat – and that spurs me on. But yesterday I was more hungry than usual. I usually don’t eat (do have a coffee with almond milk) until lunch when I have a salad. Then I don’t eat until dinner. Dinner last night was the Slendier Rice Salad. I probably didn’t have enough protein. I usually add a slice or two of 98% fat free ham for lunch and I didn’t yesterday for some reason.

I think some of it was probably OH bloody sitting next to me having spag bol and a sausage roll! Oh and the talk of “I want some popcorn”. I could have killed him! I said “have some, then”. He said, I can’t, I’m fasting. What?? I could have killed him! Is there such a thing as Fast Day Rage? 😉

Ha ha ha Naptime. It’s difficult to train the OHs sometimes. Congratulations on the 7kgs lost. Yes return the sz 20s and don’t buy too many sz 18s.

Well done naptime. I’m glad you are feeling happier and you are doing so well.

I hope Saturday fasters have had a good n positive day.

All the best for Sunday fasters tomorrow. xxxx

Good morning everyone, it is sunny straight in my kitchen window! I had a good sleep, fingers crossed you did too. Such a precious thing!
Night before was a shocker, but I was looking after my granddaughter so I didn’t mind (she was happy to cuddle!). They are off at a wedding, back today, SIL flies home tonight, but Rose (my daughter) and Josie (granddaughter) stay until we all fly to Sydney on Wednesday.

Nap I am so glad you have had such good results after that bit of frustration.
I agree with you, the hungry tummy churning does remind us that our body is working on changing. I like the feeling! (But sometimes it does make me ratty).

    Good wishes!

All quiet here, today – I hope everyone is doing ok.

I took the pants back – and tried on the size 16. They were a bit tight around the waist, but I got them on. Size 16! I can’t believe it. I didn’t buy them, I wasn’t confident enough to bypass the size 18 – but it was so nice to be able to get them on. I am stoked.

Cinque, how lovely to have your daughter and granddaughter there for a few days.

Any ideas about more filling foods for FD, Thin? Or anyone else who can chime in?

    Have a nice night, all!

    Hi Nap,
Size 16 Fantastic! Your size 18 trousers will soon be sliding off! Enjoy them while they last!
Isn’t it quiet! I hope everyone is just having a wonderful weekend.
I’ve had a wonderful busy day with lovely people including the world’s most gorgeous granddaughter (who is finally about to fall asleep touch wood and whistle!). I’ll go to sleep soon after I think!
My friends asked about the weight I had lost and said they knew someone doing 5:3, who found chewing carrots all day kept him not feeling hungry!
Personally I like the big gap between my first small meal and my last small meal, although I can’t decide if I like the waves of hunger, or are distressed by them. I think I feel both at the same time! And, come to think of it, I keep having cuppas with milk, so they probably tide me over.
    Monday tomorrow! Good night.

Hi Naptime, I’m here. FD for me, Sunday. How nice for you to get into the size 16, a great incentive to keep going. Regarding the filling foods, yes, as you said in your previous post, protein is good for that.

When I was eating more frequently on a FD, I’d go for low GI foods like 30gm steel cut oats with water or turka dhal, 137 cals – you don’t get much food but it keeps you full for longer. I’ll post my recipe for turka dhal on Coastcat’s recipe page. You can divide it into portions and freeze it in bags so it’s always handy – I had some today in fact. But you say you wait until lunch and just have salad which means you have more cals for dinner which I believe is preferable.

If you have fat-free ham, it will probably leave you wanting (I understand that it’s a toss-up between adding calories and choosing fat-free but the latter often means increased salt and/or sugar). Others may be able to better advise on this as I try not to eat any processed meats. I’d tend to go for apiece of steamed fish or 100gms chicken. Other foods I find filling are eggs, 80 cals (many on here talk about mushroom omelettes, you just need to be careful that you’re not using oil to cook the eggs, or at least counting all the cals if you are; I cook my one egg in a non-stick pan or poach it in the micro with a few drops of water). Bananas are filling, 110cals. Nuts such as almonds are filling too – you need to count them out and you won’t get many. The konnyaku noodles are very filling with virtually no calories so they’re good in miso soups. I’m having a bit of a brain fog just now and that’s all I can think of. Contrary to its claims, I’ve found that fasting doesn’t make my brain more acute, sadly!

    * tarka dhal, sorry, I told you I was having a brain fog. Anyway, I’ve added it to the recipe page.

    * 5:2 (that’s what I meant when I wrote 5:3 in my last post!

I love dahls! Such a good food. A great idea for something filling.

My home looks like a bomb hit it. Blocks and necklaces and stuffed toys and dolls everywhere. How did that happen?

Best wishes everyone, have a good day today!

    Good Morning,

Checking in – had a yukky week with the jetlag still lurking or has been replaced by a bug of some sort. Have had to not do FD’s last week, and spent yesterday in bed and pretty foggy, sleeping 14 hours each 24., sigh. Tried to do some normal things too quickly I think. Good side is I still lost 500 gms since getting back from our trip – 68.3 today, my weekly ‘graphing my weight’ day, so after a meh week it was good to see the graph go down anyway. Have worked out I could be at 62 by end of February. That would be great and in time to catch the end of summer sales.

Re clothes, I’d agree, don’t buy too much of the new size, because you may not need them for too long. My size 14 trousers are already showing the 1st signs of looseness, and I can get into a size 12 and do the zip up. I’m 2 dufferent sizes, so will take me a little longer to get into 12 bottoms. At normal weight I’m a 10 top and 12 bottom.

Medical appointment today, and hopefully I’m well enough today to do my regular FD.
    Cheers,
    Merry

I wondered if jetlag had hit, Merry! I hope you are feeling back to normal (or, even better, better than normal!) soon.
I hope you are fine to have your regular Fast Day!
Mine is going well. These are the long hours. I am not quite up to getting work done, so I just keep doing some pottering around stuff, and then rest a little.
Just about to put 72 derwents back in their tin box, in order! While watching TV. Life is not too bad is it!
I have some bergamot tea (herb) brewing.

    Hello everyone.

Cinque – I am glad you are having a lovely time with your family.

Well done Nap on getting into those size 16’s. Won’t be long and you will be doing them up with ease.

How did you fd go yesterday Thin?

I hope you are feeling better soon Merry and your appointment goes well today.

A fast day for me today after giving up on my Thursday fast. I didn’t weigh myself this morning but since my fast last Monday I had been sitting on 64.15 for the rest of the week, so I will go with that. Although yesterday was another binge day with two hot chocs, a cream and custard doughnut, crisps and even a large McDonalds chips (yuk). And I had started the day of so well with a veggie omlette for brekkie. Oh well. At least I am fasting today.

All the best fellow Monday fasters. xxxx

    Hi Everyone.
Promised myself I wouldn’t get online today until I’d given the kitchen a bit of a spring clean. Almost finished, but needed a coffee, so that’s my excuse. Also went thru wardrobes on the weekend and delivered a mountain of clothes to the Salvos. No, I’m not storing them this time – they’re goooone forever and I’m never going back. Poking around in Salvos on weekend and found a couple of as-new Sportscraft pants, bargain at $10 and fit like a glove. Still losing weight, so not spending a huge amount of $$$ on clothes until I’m where I finally want to be….maybe another 2-3kg. Need to get rid of those pesky saddlebags!

Yay to you Hoot! Great to have you back. How successful have you been???

Yep, my hand still goes to size 14s when shopping. Don’t know how long it will take for my mind to catch up with my body.

Good old Queen Vic Markets. Very jel. Enjoy yourself, Intesha, you deserve it. Love jam doughnuts! Remember the little tweeting in your ear…..it’ll be Thin & me!

Nik, great that you’re back to the 77s.

Nap, glad limiting the carbs is working for you. Onward and downwards! Watch those new clothes…..you’ll be size 16 before you know it. Maybe leave those tags on again!

Hope you’re over that jetlag Merry. Takes its toll when you can’t sleep. Good luck at the docs.

Cinque, what on earth are derwents???

Love Dhal in any form…spicier the better and I also think the heat/spice makes me feel more satisfied too. FD for me today. Don’t know what to have for dinner…..what about you guys? What yummy stuff is on the menu at your place? CM xx

    Hi Sh.,
    dropping in to say hi!!!
reading all your posts that are keeping me motivated. Love all the success stories and those of so much perseverance from you all – which I think is the difference between success and failure

Last weeks FDs didn’t really work perhaps because I didn’t strictly keep to them 🙂 but I forgive myself, as I haven’t been well. I have pretty well accepted the last few weeks as a birthday present to myself LOL!!! Clarity slowly coming back.

I will report in tomorrow after todays FD – so far so good. I have made myself a carrot soup with shredded wombok. Will probably add some konnyaku noodles as well this evening.

Love the sounds of the extra recipes on our FD recipe site. Can’t wait to try the the tarka dahl – is that ok for a FD?; on non-FD tried the oats for breakfast that some of you write about, slightly warmed up mixed berries with 2 tbs plain yoghurt – very yum and kept me full for quite some time.

anyway must get back to assignment and thesis, much positive energy to you all,

    Coast

Glad to read that you haven’t held onto those clothes CM. Well done.

Hi Coast. Enjoy the rest of your fast day. I’m right here with you. (Actually, if it wasn’t for you guys, I would have probably eaten today so thanks for keeping me on track.)

Chicken and salad for my fast meal tonight followed by a decaff tea with ff milk.
    xxxx

    Hi CM

I went all day until 6.45 pm with no food and then had stir fried vegetables with a few cashews. No noodles, they’re not my thing anymore.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

Evening, all. Had Thins recipe of Chicken Fettucine and Avocado Pesto for FD tonight – yum!

Been a cool afternoon here, and I managed to finish off my garden, ready for some veggies. It had to be fenced off, as we have chooks – and they love to scratch and have dust baths around the new plants. But now I am ready to get some tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkin and anything else I think will fit.

I’ve never had dhal – I think it could be worth a try. Thanks for the ideas. I like to keep lunch down under 90 cals, which is hard with things like egg. I do find my egg white omelette with mushrooms and tomatoes filling – but is more of the main meal, than lunch.

I have never cooked fresh fish. I would like to try, as it seems like a good form of protein with not too many cals. What is a good starting fish, and how do I cook it? I am not big on seafood (I do like the packaged oven baked fish fillets and do eat tinned tuna) so something that doesn’t have a really strong fish taste to start would be good.

So, how did we all go today? how did other Monday fasters go?

    Naptime – salmon is delish.

    Evening All,

Yay! Got my FD done today – a bit trepidaciously(is that a word?) at first, then got more confident in the afternoon. Ate at 6 pm. Shared a sashimi and sushi box with OH with lettuce. 1/2 hr later, a cup of fish stock (8 cals/100mls) with a few asian combination fish balls (fish, water chestnuts, shallots, 63 cals/100gms) sliced up in it with chopped fresh coriander. 1/2 small apple and 1/2 small orange. I have no idea what that all adds up to – above or below 500cals, and yes it had a bit of rice in the sushi bit that I wouldn’t normally eat. Just can’t be bothered working it out tonight . Just stoked I’ve got my FD done.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Good result with my Drs appointment, thanks.

CM, Derwents are pencils, and I think Cinque said 72, so a lovely box of coloured pencils. Doing some colouring Cinque? There was a lady on the plane colouring with great gusto. I thought it was supposed to make you mellow, and relax.

Good morning! It is a lovely, cool, sunny morning. My little granddaughter is watching the wiggles while I sneak a little time to drink coffee and catch up on the forum.
CM, when I was at school Derwents https://quinncreative.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/colored_pencils.jpg were the BEST pencils, and it was always my dream to have the 72 pack. That dream came true! Although they took a bit of a battering on Sunday. I got them out for the careful 5 year old visitor who drew me a beautiful picture to put up on my fridge, but ofcourse little Miss 14 months old had to grab them all and walk around dropping them!
They are all back, pretty close to the right order (since my eyes aren’t good enough to read the numbers these days!).
Must go! I’ll be back to finish my post soon I hope!

Daughter and granddaughter headed off to meet friends at the National Gallery of Victoria. I am going to finish posting, tidy up, lie down. Hopefully in that order.
She has taken a lovely basket of food to share with mums and babies: Turkish bread and hummus and carrot sticks, lemon cupcakes and a big container of fruit chunks. I volunteered to make the hummus (so easy 😉 ) while she made the cupcakes, yesterday.

That was an impressive binge day yesterday EA! Cheers for an impressive Fast Day today!

CharliesMum, just reread your post about tidying up first and realised that would have been a better order for me….. No, I couldn’t do it without sitting and finishing my coffee first! But hooray that you could! Nearly. It is the coffee that gets us every time!

Hooray for your mountain-of-clothes clear out, and your new bargains!

Cheers for your Fast Day, Coast. I was looking at the yummy Tarka Dhal recipe and I think a small bowl would be right for a Fast day. Do you agree Thin?
Good luck with your assignment and thesis! Hope your concentration is up. Oh dear I have some important paperwork that would be SO good if I can get it done today. I wonder if it is possible. My concentration is out the window and fading in the sunlight!

Bay, I want to be able to Fast like you. You too CM. I think that as I go on I am able to get more flexible and able to eat less on a Fast day.

I’m like you with fish Nap, plus I get bewildered by what is sustainable fishing and what isn’t. I would like to have more fish in my diet.

Yours sounds like an excellent Fast Day too Merry! You are an inspiring lot. Plus you beat me to the ‘derwent’ explanation! I didn’t get a chance to draw, but I rather like the new craze for colouring in!

I was telling my daughter how nearly everyone here is on the scales all the time, and how I would weigh myself at her place. She said she thought her scales were out by a kilo or more! So I was more like over 63kg last time I weighed. She is going to see what she weighs on the industrial scales at her gym, and cf them to her bathroom scales so I might get a more realistic guess! Or I can just see how much I have lost compared to the last time I was on them!

No. Don’t tell me to go to her gym!!!!!

Best wishes everyone. Eat mindfully! Enjoy every mouthful.

    Hi SH,

    signing in after FD yesterday.
    downward trend: 250gms.

still haven’t got back to my PB (another 1.25kg less) from 2 weeks ago but have another FD tomorrow.

I went really well all day but in the evening I felt like munching on something so had a few eucalyptus drops and 3 Cavendish & Harvey mixed fruit drops – which did the trick. BUT when I had a look at the calories for the mixed fruit drops – imagine my horror when I read that the calories for 3 was 392cals!!!! I am stunned that I still dropped 250gms. aarrrgggg!!!
I wont make that mistake again. Beware of throat drops 5:2ers!!!!

I just bought an adult colouring book for my niece as she needs to practice slowing down and being in the here and now. Colouring for adults appears to be all the rage at the moment. Love that you finally got your Derwents, Cinque 🙂

best wishes to all, keep up the motivation and have happy FDs,

    signing off,

    Coast

Ahhh, colouring pencils…I seem to remember them now from somewhere in my dark past!

Thanks Cinque, but I think Bay takes the crown re fasting. I can only aspire to be more like her and Purple. Mmmmm, all my favourite foods, but lemon cupcakes take the cake (pun intended!) but then I adore anything with lemon.

Good luck with your FD, EA…be strong girl!

Glad all is good with you Merry & the docs went well too.

Have a great day everyone. CM xx

Good grief that is a lot of calories for a few little fruit drops, Coast!
I hope your niece finds the colouring book a lovely meditation!

My daughter is back and said the lemon cup cakes were yummy! She loves the grownups colouring books too!
Little Miss is busy covering the floor with THINGS. Again. 😉 (yes I did tidy up and then lie down).

Yay for Queen Bay. You must be a fasting princess CM!

Thank you, CM, bows while accepting said crown as it is my birthday month. It was Purples crown last month, and shall be duly bestowed on a suitable recipient for the month of November. ????

    Cheers, all. Bay 🙂

Congratulations Queen Bay. A crown well earned and one I can only aspire to at the moment. Stuck at 64.15 after yesterdays fast day. Oh well, guess I can’t complain after my binge on Sunday.
    xxxxx

Good morning everyone, it is a summery spring day in Melbourne. Clothes dried on the line overnight.
I am looking forward to my next fast, but a trip to Sydney today and we will be getting Vietnamese food when we arrive (yum!). I’ll aim to fast tomorrow, and on Friday if I can’t manage tomorrow.
I got my first 5:2 newsletter! It suggests, if you are the type to weigh every day, that you take an average of them at the end of the week, to get a truer idea of how the weight loss is going. Calculators out!
Life has been so hectic this week, and today I need to cook rice and dahl, catch up with friends, have the house in some sort of shape so that my Home Help Angel can vacuum etc, pack for Sydney, sort out the fridge, book a taxi and get to the airport on time.
So I am sitting with a coffee and saying hello to you lot! (At least the moong dahl are cooking!)
I hope you are having a good simple day, without too much on, and a special hi to those who are fasting.

Morning Cinque How lovely living in Melbourne and also being a short flight away from Sydney. Two of my favorite places. And I’m stuck in the wild wild West. Have a wonderful time and enjoy that Vietnamese food.

Good luck to all the fasters today. I’ve decided to fast tomorrow as I have just had a cup of tea with milk in.

Bring your warm clothes Cinque. Cold and overcast in Sydney today ? Where’s spring? P

Has anyone found 5:2 or 4:3 playing around with blood pressure? For the last few days, I have been getting dizzy spells when I stand up, some of them quite bad. OH has asked me to drop one of the FD (well he wanted me to stop it all together, and I said no way – but agreed to drop it to 5:2 for a couple of weeks) to see if it changed anything. But I don’t only get it on FD, I get it on all days.

    Could this be related?

Naptime, dehydration causes low bp…possible dizziness. .try increasing the amount of fluid you have on fast days. P ☺

    Hi Nap,

While I’ve only ever been on 5:2, yes this did happen to me. I was on Medication to lower blood pressure. 5:2 has fixed my high blood pressure and now I’m normal. As I had decades of low blood pressure before becoming well overweight and getting high BP, I knew that dizziness, and the need for me to be well hydrated, as Purple said. When you fast you miss out on the water componant of the foods you’re not eating. That’s a fair bit of fluid and you could be underestimating how much water you need. If this is the case, then it’s possible that doing 4:3 instead of 5:2 might exacerbate it. Also, are you very tired? Are you on BP meds? Along with my GP, I halved my BP meds a few months after beginning 5:2. A few months after that I was able to go off them entirely.

Remembering I am quite a bit older than you, and chronically ill; I had a situation one night where I was exceptionally tired, no fluid for hours, started feeling odd and a bit dizzy, but sat watching TV instead of drinking water and going to bed. Dizziness kep on happining whenever I stood up off and on, and an hour later I got up too quickly, went to the loo and passed out, and ended up in A & E. Through tiredness and brain fog I stupidly did several no-nos – didn’t act on the 1st lot of dizziness, dehydrated, got up too quickly, went to the loo – all 4 things that will drop your blood pressure. Yes urinating drops your blood pressure, weird but true. Anyhoo..verdict was..all of the above. Simply got myself into a situation by not taking note of the signs and taking the right action, and at follow up with GP we dropped my BP meds. Now I’m not on any and my BP is fine. 5:2 enabled my blood pressure to go back to normal. My GP is more than happy for me to be on 5:2, and my cardiologist said my heart is nowvfunctioning better than it was and I don’t need to go back for yearly routine checkups. And I now carry water with me all the time.

Hope my story brings you some insight into what’s happening to you, Nap. Perhaps going back to 5:2 while you sort it out would be my suggestion. While what happened to me was rather drammatic, I would avoid it if it’s a possibility. Hope you get it sorted.

    Merry
