  • First day done and dusted!

I was hungry in the morning and then my body seemed to just sort itself out and give up looking for food!

I’m eating my breakfast now and although it’s a normal sized bowl of oats and a few sultanas it seems huge!

Looking forward to having last nights curry (that I wasn’t allowed) for lunch today.

Had 518 calories yesterday – went over because of the 2 strepsils I needed for my sore throat, but I am sure the calcs aren’t 100% accurate and 518 is close enough.

Yay. feeling pleased with myself. Bring on Thursday!

Hey karate kid. I’m a cantab too!

Hi Angelbob, nice to meet someone else from Canty here! How long have you been fasting?

Good morning everyone. Sun is out, but today it is shining on wet road, through cold air! That’s my Melbourne!

JJ in the last couple of years my sister has had a two bouts of bursitis in her hip (the first one was such a shocker, as it took a while to get it diagnosed, so she was doing everything wrong), and my dear friend, a hairdresser, got bursitis in both her shoulders. Just awful. Then, ofcourse, I kept hearing of other people who had it. Scary painful and so limiting on what you can do!
Well (Polyanna speaking) at least it doesn’t stop you from having Fast Days! I hope you can rest and heal and never get either of those things again! (The cortisone injection was wonderful for my sister!).

Congratulations on your successful first Fast Day Karate Kid! Isn’t it a nice feeling waking up the next morning! (That’s me this morning too!)

I’ve got a busy day. Three meetings (one is more than enough for me usually) so wish me luck. Sometimes I run out of oomph and am just gaga. Don’t want that today!

Best wishes to all of you. Enjoy your day!

Good morning,to all. Sitting here having a coffee and reading all the posts that happened after my last post last night. Yes new PM watched it happen then went to bed.
Thin, I was thinking of you and now you are on such a low cal count on FD’s. If you wanted to bulk up your meal you could do 1 egg omelette and then add a lot more mushrooms and tomato to make a more filling meal. 100g of mushrooms is still quite a lot but if you do 200g it is only about 22 more calories and takes up more space on your plate and in your tummy for a lot less than the extra egg.
I try to think of foods that have the less calories but the more bulk.
Also you might be interested in the thai rice paper wraps that I had the other night. I bought the smaller wraps that said they were 51 calories for 3. I measured out 100g of chicken and diced it. Then made a salad of very finely cut savoy cabbage (chinese cabbage is great too) not too much of the cabbage though. I cut enough to fill a cereal bowl and still had just a bit too much in the end. I added fresh chopped coriander, grated carrot and very finely sliced and diced red onion. You can also add bean shoots if you have them. Mix it all up together. Rinse your rice wrappers one at a time under tepid water and place on preparation board. Place a little of the chicken in the middle then some of the salad and wrap them up. I ended up with 6 of the small wrappers using the 100g of chicken and the salad mix. It was really filling in the end. I did not use any sauce with them to keep the calories down. I am going to do this again next weekend and use six prawns instead of the chicken. Calorie count will depend on the weight of the prawns.

CM thanks for the info on your hip. I dont think my doctor wants to rush me into having surgery so he has given me referal to another physio who specialises in shoulders, although the physio I have been going to can do this too so he said it was up to me. My physio can also do accupuncture and I have gotten used to him so I will stick to him for the time being and see if he can help. As we now know what the problem is he will then have a better chance to fix it.

I had read about oils that have a higher smoke point and bought one awhile back but dont use much oil these days in any case. I bought a Jamie Oliver grill pan that was really expensive from Myer years ago and found it did not last so now only buy the cheaper ones as they can be disposable. Last grill pan I bought from a kitchen shop, the guy told me never to spray with oil as it affects the non stick coating and also never put into the water after cooking while it is still hot. I have heeded his advice and so far this pan has lasted the longest and it only cost me $20. Cleans easily and looks like new!!!

Angelbob good to hear from you and glad all going well. All the best for hens night and of course wedding day!! You must be excited!!! ENJOY!!! Gee 7cm is a lot!!! well done!!!!

So weigh in today after yesterday’s FD was soso…..not sure if I am happy or not! Scales said 76.1 which was really good and getting me closer to 75, but after toilet stop weighed again and they were telling me 76.9….why did I go back on the scales????? I was hoping that it would say 75.9 but NO they went up!!! Anyhow I think I will take the 76.1 and not say any more!!!

I have decided to fast all day again today but have the chili con carne leftovers for dinner making it the only meal for the day and trying to keep the calories down today then have another FD tomorrow. OH flying out again midmorning so he wont be home for dinner tonight. But back tomorrow afternoon.

I found the Maccona “Hint of Hazelnut” coffee in the calorie chart and it is 2 calories, so happy enough with that as I only drink that one late at night.

well that is all from me this morning……..catch up later……JJxxx

    Good morning SH,

my first FD for the week. Still no change in weight.
    But I think I know why 🙁

I did brilliantly all day and then I had a massive case of the munchies after my soup/dinner. I had a couple of slices of bread and tomato, extra veges as a salad bowl, some mixed nuts. I figure that it is an emotional reaction as I should have been writing my thesis but was avoiding it for some reason and then I think I had the guilt munchies. AND I didn’t stick to my plan of going to bed as soon as the munchies raised their naughty heads (it was too early).

I will do better on Wednesday.

    signing out,
    Coast

I dont know why but I missed reading the last lot of posts, Anyhow thanks Cinque for the information about bursitis. I will go with doctor’s advice of the injection and physio and hope that is all I will need. yes great that it does not affect Fast Days and Oh has been helpful in doing so much that I can not do. If he is away he says just leave things. I can still get by with doing most other things around the house except cleaning up high. Driving seems to hurt the most so try not to drive as much and if I have to am driving one armed!!!

Karate Kid, glad you had a great FD yesterday. I know it is early days for you but you can also benefit from a FD by not eating too early the next day which is actually prolonging your FD. Gradually try to extend the FD til about lunch time if you can. You dont have to if you dont want to. Anyhow did you weigh yourself this morning? Please share with us.

    Hi SH,

Thin, have you found a smart track suit yet?
I’ve been looking up Spanish recipes but haven’t settled on any that could fit or 5:2 programme. Hopefully some of you creative peeps will provide some inspiration 🙂
Barata, I loved your comment about where muffins don’t belong – not on a person nor on our plates …..LOL!!!

Hi Karate Kid and HeloiseW, welcome to our forum family. You will find everyone a font of information and motivation on your new WOL (Way of Life). I am from the Gold Coast too.
Karate Kid Just read your post about your successful FD yesterday. well done.

CM, sound like your were enjoying life as it should be 🙂 in a controlled way. Good on you.. I loved the sound of your stir fried garlic cabbage and chilli dish. How do you make the Portugeuse Chicken?

Bay, the discussion was about high waisted vs hipster/ low waisted pants.
Welcome back NikT. You did so well while on holidays. I have a hard time getting my mind around throwing out my ‘big’ clothes too even though I know it’s the right thing to do.

Good news EA. Really doing well with the choices. Love that your trousers are falling down … LOL!!

JJ, good to finally find out what is going on. You can now work on management of the issues. My friend got the injections and they worked straight away and he has never had a pain problem again. Conversely, I had them and the pain free period lasted exactly 1 week. I think it is definitely worthwhile trying this as a first resort. Many people say negative things about steroid shots, but I haven’t seen or experienced adverse effects. I think these people have often not had to deal with very bad or chronic pain. Physio is good too.
I had the mushroom and tomato 1 egg omelette for lunch yesterday on my FD (your calorie count seemed pretty ok) with soup for dinner.
JJ, when you make miso soup what else do you put in?
I also wanted to say that re: celery soup, I chop the celery into pieces and so avoid those stringy bits.

Hi AngelBob2, happy ‘lurking’ LOL!! well done on letting that 2kg go.

    bye till after next FD,

    Coast

Coast, when making Miso soup I like to put seaweed in it. Buy wakame in the dry form and remember they are tiny while dried but expand when rehydrated so dont overdo how much you put in. I also like mushroons and tofu. Enoki mushrooms are perfect as they are the tiny asian ones. Tofu can add calories so be careful. For everyday soup on FD’s I use a Japanese packet instant miso that comes in two varieties, mushroom and tofu and the calories are only 19 and 20 respectively. I buy Ajishima freeze dried miso from Coles in the asian section. Woolworths sells a different brand that is nearly double in calories.

As far as my shoulder is concerned, I am booked in for the injection on Friday morning when OH is back and can drive me/hold my hand!!! I am a little worried about the procedure so need to have some support. Usually I am ok with injections but the thought of this one is scaring me.

I shall look in again soon, having an easy day but have to take OH to the airport soon…….JJxxx

    Morning all

CM thanks for the heads up re pans. So maybe that is why my flavorstone didn’t last.

Wow, Angelbob. October seemed so far away and now it is only two weeks!! How exciting for you. Have a wonderful hens night tomorrow night.

Well, good news this morning. My hat is safe. Weighed in at 63.75. So I guess the hunger was worth it in the end. I am very much enjoying my porridge with creamy full fat milk.

Have a good day and all the best to any Tuesday fasters.
    xxxx

Wow, I have just realised that I have lost a whole page of comments before I posted this morning. Off out now. Will read when I get back. xxxx

Karate kid I’m 5 weeks in. How’s it going for you?

Yippee EA, the 63s, excellent news. Those post-FD breakfasts can be heavenly sometimes.

Thanks for suggestions on the omelettes JJulie I might try one egg with mushrooms for my FD tomorrow. I haven’t had miso soup for a while so I’ll give that a go too. Good luck with your shoulder Rx.

Coast, I haven’t been shopping since. Thanks for asking though. Never mind about getting the munchies, it happens and tomorrow’s another day and I’ll see you here for the Weds fast.

Well done KK on completing your first fast day successfully. Hi Cinque, ABob2 and all. Gotta run.

Thanks Thin. I am a happy bunny today. Going to switch fast days again this week to Thursday but I will be thinking of you tomorrow. All the best. xxxx

Thin, hope the omelette works out for you. Just another hint….I like to whip the egg a lot until it is fluffy then when it is cooking it fluffs up heaps and looks a lot more than it really is!!!

well did not eat until 5.00pm and then had leftover chili con carne with a little rice. Sitting having a wine now but FD again tomorrow.

    see ya all later….JJxx

I remembered today to say to BayLeaf (re high waisted trousers)…. Oh dear, I never looked in Sportscraft Stores!

I had my day of meetings and now need to rest and recover. Good wishes to everyone!

Were you good today EA or were you treating yourself when you went out?

Morning Wednesday fasters. How is everyone today? And where is everyone today?

    Good Morning all

Hello, I am here Thin and I hope your fast day is going swimmingly so far.

I was pretty good yesterday. My friend had baked a pumpkin cake thing and I had a bit of that but the toddler ate most of it. I bought sausage rolls from the bakery, and a custard cream donut for my friend. I cut the sausage rolls up to share and had maybe a half of one small one.

I weighed myself just out of interest this morning and had remained the same.

What have you planned for dinner tonight Thin?
    xxxx

    Morning all.
I’m here Thin! Just heading out the door, so a quick check-in. Everyone’s doing really well by the sound of it. Welcome to our newbies – good luck. It gets easier the further in you go & becomes almost second nature.
    Well done too EA!
Will read everyone’s posts in more detail later. Getting ready for a big family dinner on Friday so running around like a headless chook!
Happy dance for me yesterday 60.7, back up to 61.0 this morning. So I did make it Thin!
Off to Bali in 10 days so need to be very good until then, coz their restaurants are amazing & I might be very bad! Well, a little bit bad! We now have the tools to manage our holidays….but it’s going to be hard not eating rice in Asia! Gawd! Oh well, it’ll come back off when I get back.
Happy FD everyone. What’s for dinner? CM xx

    Hi Thin,

I’m here and fasting. Have been out in the garden for 2-3 hours taking advantage of the glorious weather to weed. I got into bad habits while away, and am now fasting to break them and get back on to the 5:2 wagon. 😉

I’m having vegetable soup for dinner, and nothing all day except a cup of coffee and lots of water.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

Hi you three, lovely to hear from you. All’s well here thank you. It’s 2.30pm & I’ve just sat down for my soup. This morning I’ve kept busy making Moroccan meatballs for a dinner party next week, I decided to make them ahead of time and freeze as there are two mains so there’ll still be good smells coming from the kitchen on the day. The aroma of the roasted spices has been amazing and it hasn’t made me hungry at all, it’s just been stimulating and fun. So, that’s 2 hours less work to worry about on the day & I can concentrate on the tagine and side dishes.

Enjoy that gardening weather Bay. Was it all too hard to fast while you were away? Did you take your scales with you? My Verrette scales arrived yesterday. I’m happy with what I see so far – they don’t quite tally with my bathroom scales but as long as I know what they say when I leave, all will be well. They weigh about 7-800 gms themselves so a little heavier than the Petit Mignon. But a little lighter on the price at $39.95 + postage. So, Bay, can you not keep those people under control in Canberra? Just thinking, it would be so cool if you were someone we all know. I guess only PVE knows for sure.

Anyway, GREAT news CM on seeing 60 something – hope you remembered to take a photo of your feet on the scales. What are you cooking? I’d forgotten about Bali – how long will you be away? You guys get around. I’ve given Alfie away to two more people and everyone’s enjoying it so thanks again. Alfie’s the kefir that CM gave me for those who didn’t know.

And well done to you EA for staying the same today and only picking at the naughties. Since I’m always on your case, you’d have laughed if you’d seen the morning tea I put away at my cryptics xw class yesterday – and the whole time talking about 5:2 to classmates amazed at how much I can eat and still look like this. And I weighed in the same today as well. 60.4kgs. Dinner tonight is poached egg, smoked salmon & asparagus which comes with a tbs fresh dill dressing made with yoghurt.

Think I might head out to the garden too Bay. Do you have a little symbol for that?

    Hi Thin

I’m no one you know, believe me. Purple can vouch for that. The weather has been glorious. If it keeps up, we will play golf in the morning.

I didn’t want to carry the weight of scales as we were travelling for,six weeks. It was too hard for me to fast while away and I knew I would put on weight if I ate croissants and pastries and baguettes. However, I did have some low carb, low sugar days that helped me manage the weight.

Only had a bowl of vegetable soup so far today. 😉 if I manage this two times a week, I will lose the weight over the same period that I put it on. Glad to have your cheery support.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

I am here too……so busy today that did not have time to look in this morning…I had to renew 16yo passport in time for December trip and when they looked at my drivers licence for ID found it was expired!!!!! OMG 4 days ago!!! I ran down to the DOT and renewed it and then went back with the paper copy. Thankgoodness I found out then or it would have gone on for ages and I could have been driving unlicenced without remembering. Yes I got the notice about 6 weeks ago but put it on the fridge and then forgot!!!!

OK weight this morning was not the best back to 77.1. I think that I have to keep away from red meat, kidney beans as well as wine!!!!

So today have eaten nothing at all!!!!….2 coffees and water is all I have had. OH and 16yo are having sausages, mash and gravey. I will have my omelette with mushrooms and tomato. I bought some lovely Japanese mushrooms today and will add then to miso over the weekend. Busy weekend again with the Taiko group. Two performances on Saturday and then one on Sunday!!! Keeps me busy even though I can not play with my shoulder but take photos for them.

I looked through all the posts but now to tired to make comments as there are heaps again……Gee so much to catch up with if you dont log on a few times a day.

Anyone wanting to come up to Cairns for Christmas and housesit for us????? Our dog sitter has now backed out and I dont want to loose $7,000 in airfares.

    catch up tomorrow morning!!…….JJxx

Thanks CM and Thin. I look forward to hearing from you re the weigh in post fd tomorrow Thin. I’m glad you had a little (or is that a lot) of what you fancied at your meeting but pray, do tell, what is a cryptics xw class when it’s at home?

Sooo tempting to toddle off to Cairns for Christmas JJ and look after your puppy dog but alas it is not going to happen. I am sure you will find someone though. I’m glad you got your licence and passport sorted.

Fast day for me tomorrow and my friend is going to come over and help me with my borrowed thermie as I am overwhelmed as to where to start. Such a fun (cruel?) thing to do on a fast day!! I shall start the fd but if it gets too much, then I may have to reschedule til Friday.

    Happy evening everyone
    xxxx

That’s a tempting offer JJulie and what a terrific idea to post it on here. How annoying to be let down like that. It’s hard enough finding someone to care for our lizards!

That’s a drag gaining weight back on your hols Bay but I fear the same will happen to me. Oh well, as you say, we know how to get it back off – was the damage bad? (Sorry if I missed the report elsewhere, I can’t even recall where you went).

EA: cryptic crossword classes. I’ve been going for about 8 years. I hoped it would keep dementia at bay. Not sure it works but we enjoy it nonetheless. Have fun with the thermomix tomorrow.

    Hi SH

Had a good 2nd FD yesterday. Went to bed REALLY early to beat the munchies that seem to come on later in the evening. I woke at 2am from hunger. So hungry that I had to get up and had some miso soup and vegemite on a soup.

weigh-in: let go of 500gms Yayy!!!
Total let go of since I started on 1st August is 6.5kg. Very happy with continued downward trend.
Had been a bit frustrated with weight going up or not moving over last fortnight. Thank you all for keeping me motivated.

Congrats to everyone who has let go or maintained. If you haven’t, don’t lose hope, just give things a bit of a tweek,

    Coast

    Hi Thin

All self inflicted, but it was 3 kg over 46 days of non fasting. So far one kg has been lost again. It is really the continual “asking” by my body for sweet stuff that is annoying me. 😉 I would like to meet up one day when you’re over East, or we’re over West. Swap stories.

I see there is a new thread on the 5:2 website for people who are starting to gain weight again after 18 months on 5:2. My own personal experience shows that it is carbs that do the damage, and also getting complacent about fasting below the quarter of your TDEE.

As far as I can work out, Purple and Happy have cracked it because they have completely changed their food intake and they limit carbs for most days of the week.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

    Morning all

Well done Coast on your loss.

I’m glad you have informed me Thin. I am sure it is doing you the world of good.

Just a quickie from me. Fasting today and weighed in the same (63.75) but body fat down to 27.5%. I have been avoiding processed carbs for a little while but really fancied some toast before bed last night. So the hubby made two slices and I managed one and a half before feeling full. No damage on the scales this morning, thank goodness.

Doing homemade pizza and soup for the tribe tonight but I will just be having the soup and an egg.

I wonder if I will pull at 62 something tomorrow. Oh the mystery and wonder of losing weight.

Relax all those Wednesday fasters and all the best for fellow Thursday fasters.

Love to meet up with you someday Bay. Thanks for sharing your experience – 3kgs is about what I’d gain on a typical holiday (and about the same at Christmas so we can see how that added up pre-5:2). I must go exploring other threads about maintenance and, heaven forbid, weight gain. None of us wants to go back there. It’s good that the people experiencing weight gain after 18 months of 5:2 are doing something about it and enjoying the support of other forum members to work out what’s gone wrong. Good on you for losing one kg already.

Coastcat, you’ve lost a LOT of weight already. Don’t worry about those plateaus, we’ve all had them. And we learn to give up trying to rationalise the fluctuations.

EA, 62 something tomorrow will be terrific. Are your friends making comments about your weight loss now? Well, you asked me to report in today so….drum roll…. 59.8kgs. BP 112/78. 23.3kgs lost. Never expected that. We’re driving out to York with another couple today for lunch. Believe me, I’m having absolutely anything I want! Need to gain some weight. 😆

How tempting to fly to Cairns to housesit. Can’t do it, but I hope you find someone who can JJ!
Congrats everyone who has lost a bit of weight, or who is tweaking their regime to make it work better.
Fast Day, and I am feeling a bit distracted and lacking concentration. A worry because I have a mountain of things to do, especially to write a little article about the project I am doing, that has to be in tomorrow. Hmmm, I had better just concentrate and get it done.
Cheers to all of you who are managing 10x more than that!
Ok off to do it. Bye

WOO HOO CONGRATULATIONS THIN – I just knew you would be in the 50’s very soon. How very exciting. I’m over the moon for you. Amazing numbers you have just typed there. Enjoy your lunch with friends. Just out of interest, how low will you go before you have to rethink fasting twice a day because you are obviously still losing weight as opposed to just maintaining?

My thermie bake off was cancelled (just as well as I am hungry). Although I had an unplanned pit stop at the cafe with another friend and just had a decaff black coffee. And my friend had a chicken curry pie. I would have preferred a chicken curry pie and a hot chocolate but hey ho.

I will try to get on the treadmill later. I have put a lot of unnecessary pressure to hit the 62’s tomorrow ha ha. Keeps things interesting.

To answer your question Thin, my friends sort of say something but not too much but the big bonus is that no person from random stranger to so called friend has approached me recently asking “when the baby is due”. Gotta be grateful for small mercies.

“Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran is playing on the radio right now. Very appropriate because now I am thinking again of that chicken curry pie since just typing about it.

Keep going Thursday fasters. Almost there and if are over East you are even closer than I.

Sorry, just proof read my message AFTER sending it. Grammar is shocking. I shall blame it on being peckish. xxxx

Wow Thin – great effort you!!!

I’m in hiding as since getting back from hols have binged a bit (5 bits of bread in one sitting after work) as with not being able to exercise after work now (aches and pains diagnosed as sciatica by Co. Dr) so been a little bit bah humbug – (but very grateful no back soreness!!).

Can’t believe you got up in the night to eat, Coast! Living in the deep south, nothing induces me out of bed in our coldness… so I guess that’s one benefit to not living full time in warmer climates. Great effort though with yr total since Aug!!!

Good luck with your shoulder injection tomorrow JJ – be brave 🙂

I finally found the TDEE calculator (had to search, still don’t know where it sits) and I’m still above 2000 cals a day, so thankfully don’t have to look at reducing the 500cals on FD yet.

As penance for my week of badness, I’ve had a liquids only day, as weigh in tomorrow is prob going to be even higher than when I got home this time last week, so will prob fast most of tomorrow to try and get myself back fully into zone.

Happy weighing in tomorrow for all the Friday Weighers!

Evening All. Busy cooking all day. Just sat down to check your posts.

Woohoo! Prize of the day has to go to Skinny Thinny!! That’s fabulous Thin. Did you ever think you’d get into the 50s? Far out, that’s frigging amazing. Well done. Yes, happy to see 60s. Back down a bit this morn to 60.8. Shall see how it goes tomorrow. Cooking Southern Pulled Pork & Chilli con Carne with all the accompanying bits. Made some BBQ sauce this aftn & carrot walnut cake. Mexican nibbles to start. Might make tortillas tomorrow if I get time. Glad Alfie is servicing the South Perth community! Love to hear if you’re happy with mini scales. Enjoy York – you really deserve it.

Thanks EA. good luck tomorrow. Sorry your Thermie demo was cancelled.

JJ – bet you’re glad that paperwork is sorted! Hope your injection goes well.

Coast I can’t believe you got up in th middle of the night to eat! It would never happen to me – love my sleep/bed too much! Well done on your loss.
Cinque, we all feel that way some days. Don’t stress. what’s your project?

Nik, it happens to us all. When you feel ready, get back on the horse. You know this works. It has a lot to do with your trip, so don’t beat yourself up. It was the same for me.

Happy weigh in Friday all you wonderful losers! CM xx

Good morning all. Weigh in this morning 74.3. Haven’t seen the elusive 73’s again but as I said before anything now under the 75 is a bonus. I’m feeling really good and I know that I am shrinking by the fit of my clothes. Yesterday I had an appointment at a government dept and the lady said you know you look good for your age!!!!

Well done to everyone for staying the course. Thin you are amazing, what an inspiration.

JJ if I wasn’t going to the UK I would have put up my hand for the house sitting. My Dad comes from the Atherton Tablelands and I have family up there.

CM you are a cooking marvel hope all goes well.

Off to Canberra next week for a few days to see Floriade and some R&R.

    All the best everyone.

Good Morning! Cool and grey. The morning! Not me! I’ve hennaed my hair and I’m still a bit stressed about all I have to do!

CM your cooking sounds so delicious!

EA I hope you get your chicken curry pie soon, on a day when it is planned and enjoyed to the max!

NikT what a penance, hope you get through it and in the zone and then all this 5:2 starts feeling like a treat you give yourself! That is what it feels like here, the morning after a Fast Day.

I got my article drafted, and will finish it today. I have started a community food project called YamDaisy. We have our pilot Takeaway Day next week on Friday, at our local Community Health Centre. Our chef will prepare meals we sell chilled. I’m freaking out about all the last minute things we haven’t organised: like how we will get them from the kitchen we cook them in, to the place we are selling them, and the labelling we are putting on them (ingredients, instructions) plus our website has just spat the dummy and lost its header (with our name on it!!!).

Ha, you must wish you hadn’t asked CM! But I am taking deep breaths and will just keep plodding on. My health is bad so I can’t be fast and efficient. Damn.

And look it is nearly 9am so I had better go off and start doing things.

Best wishes everyone! I’ve read everything and send cheers and sympathy accordingly!
I hope you have a particularly good day!

    Morning all.
Well done Cinque, your project sounds fascinating. Would love to hear more about it when you get over the hump. Stay calm, take a few minutes for yourself, some deep breathing to clear your head. Feel better soon too.

Thanks Intesha. you sound like you’re in a good space. You now know this works. You’ll get back in the 73s & lower soon, no probs. enjoy Canberra I’d love to go too.

60.5 this morning for me. Very happy! Haven’t been this weight since I don’t remember when. Ballooned by 7kg when I went on the pill at 15 for really bad period pain. The lowest I got, at around 24, was 61kg & slowly climbed from there. Not really overweight but always carrying more than i wanted. 10.5kg gone now this year. All pretty easy once I understood how my body works. Thanks Dr M for proving it really is possible & for all the support from the wonderful losers on this thread. Wouldn’t be here without you all.

Hello all, it is afternoon here and I am sitting reading all the posts. Have been so busy and not able to look in yesterday. Took a friend to the airport as her and family going to Japan for the first time. Heaps of running around in the morning and then cooking in the afternoon. My eldest daughter (school teacher) has a special lunch party in the school staffroom for last day of school today. They were bringing foods from their background. Anyhow she asked if I could make Finnish Pasties. So cooked the filling in the afternoon then when school finished she came around to do the pastry side of things and cook them. We made 24 pasties and she took about 18 of them with her. I had been so busy that had not eaten all day just coffee and water, so had two pasties for dinner. OH said he would eat two as well so I did not have to cook anything. I know I should not have eaten the pasties, but they are one of my favourite things and I specifically did not eat so I could have one. Anyhow the two did fill me up and that is all I ate. The pastry would have been the worst part for me weight wise!!

Weight this morning was 76.3 which is the best so far since I started 5:2. Today I started early and got ready for my injection. OH came with me so I did not have to drive. I was quite worried about this procedure but really it was not as bad as I had imagined. Have been resting since. No housework, cooking, cleaning etc for me for 3 days then minimum work for another 4 days before going back to physio and doctor. Shoulder feeling great at the moment. I would like to thank everyone who wished me well, it is nice to see that people were thinking of me and I am grateful for you all.

I have had no food so far today as well, just coffee and water. Hoping that I can get into that 75. something measurement tomorrow. But really happy that I have kept in the 76 range for a couple of days now.

    So many posted to read……..

For all those who would love to come to Cairns I shall keep you in mind next time I need a house sitter. I am at the moment waiting for another person to let me know if she can house sit. Other than that one friend has offered to take the dogs and I am leaving this as the last resort as she already has a dog at home.

Thin – congratulations…under 60 so amazing, I bet you are jumping for joy that you can eat whatever you want on your outing!!! I am really happy for you.

Bay – I think you are a star!!!! 3kg over 46 days of non fasting, then loose 1kg so quickly. That is so inspiring for all of us going on holidays in the future. Interesting about the carbs too!!!

Coast – I know what you mean about the yoyo with weight. I have been doing the same over the last few weeks. I had a great start then of course it all slowed down and that is when I can get to the give up stage, but I have tried to stay on course even to the point of adding another FD in the week. I think we all go through some sort of adjustments, whether it is mental or body shaping adjustments, but I can see my clothes a looser and I keep mentally thinking of which foods are good for me. (although I did have the Finnish pasties last night)
I have also been hungry at night but end up having a glass of water in the hope it will fill me up as I am worried that my morning weigh in would be affected if I eat something.

NikT – sorry to read that you have been diagnosed with sciatica, my friend has the same but her chiro keeps telling her to walk walk walk. Sometimes she has so much pain she cant get out of bed. Hope they can help you with the pain relief. Take care. Thinking of you.

CM – wow your food sounds wonderful, can i come to your house to eat???? Your weigh in this morning was fantastic. Good on you!! You say it is the best since about 24 years old so you should be really proud of yourself!!

Intesha – you are doing so good and you will get to the 73’s soon. You are beating me in our race to get to 70 by December!! We will do it!!!

Cinque – gee your so busy, YamDaisy sounds so interesting. Hope you have fun with your project.

Hope I have not missed too many people out. I do find it difficult to read back and type, then find that I loose everything I type if I am unlucky.

I shall look in again later tonight.

Take care everyone and have a good day…..JJxxx

Well done CM – you have done amazingly and are an inspiration to us all.

Oh dear Cinque – today sounds like a bit of a manic Friday for you. I hope things have settled down and gone to plan. All the best with your YamDaisy. Please tell us all about it when you get a chance.

Keep at it Intesha, you are doing really well. I am so jealous you are going to England. I really wanted to go home for Christmas but couldn’t manage it for this year.

I hope the weigh in went okay for you today NikT. Congratulations if it did but if it didn’t, do beat yourself up about it. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

My goal of 62 was not achieved this morning. In fact, no weight loss was achieved at all but looking on the bright side, it didn’t go up. I wasn’t suprised as I didn’t get to go for a walk yesterday or make that long walk from sofa to treadmill (all of about three paces).

Ah well, there is always next week.

    Have a good weekend everyone.
    xxxx

OH NO I REALLY SHOULD PROOF READ BETTER BEFORE I PRESS SEND.

INTESHA – I MEANT TO SAY DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP!!! NOT NOT NOT.

OH MY GOODNESS – ANOTHER TYPO. i MEANT NIK T NOT INTESHA.

I THINK I AM GOING TO SIGN OUT AND HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT!!!

Hi EA – you did what I often do – type the complete opposite word to what I mean to do!!! Thanks for the encouragement JJ, EA, Cinque!

I am back on track! Weighed in at 80.4kg this morning, so am pretty sure that’s PDC (pretty damn close) to what I was before holiday, so have fasted again today just to make sure… and walked in the door tonight and promptly cooked tea, so that I’m not tempted to snack.

What a great achievement CM!!! I can’t wait to be in the position of counting back the years and getting back to some of those younger weights.

My leg seemed a tad better today, so just hoping it’s just a short burst. It’s taken so long to get up to running for 30mins, and now having to stop for a while is scary. Tomorrow we have tickets to a local rugby game, so will be my first big walk across the city, so that will be telling… if I make it back in one piece.

Have a great weekend everyone.. I’m just about to sit down to a VERY early tea 🙂

Hi everyone, I am in Canberra and just starting the 5:2 diet. I have been tracking calories and exercising since October last year. I have lost 25kg, but still have another 25kg to go – and have just been back and forth since July (lose one week, gain the next). So, I thought it was worth giving this a go.

First fast day has been today and I am surprised how well I am coping.

Fingers crossed it helps me shift the other 25kg!

Welcome naptime…..Gee you have been tracking calories and exercising since October last year!!! All on your own??? WELL I have to give you a BIG congratulations for the loss of 25kg doing it all on your own!!!!! You are just such an amazing person.
If you have any questions then you have come to the right place where we are helping each other along this journey.
Hope your fast day gives you that boost to make you want to keep doing this!!!
My doctor suggested 5:2 to me. I have lost 8 Kg since my start in July. My doctor has now told me I can now have a break off my Blood Pressure medication and see how it goes. I need to loose about another 12kg to put me in the normal weight range but truthfully I would like to loose a bit more but for the time being I have goals. My first goal was to get under 80kg which I have done. My next goal is to get to 75kg soon………then I am hoping to get to 70kg before my holiday in December. It helps if you have mini goals along the way as for me it makes it more realistic.
You will shift those 25kg left if you stick to this.
As you will find in this forum there are a lot of people who have made it to their goals or are very close. They are the ones with experience who are willing to help us who are still quite new.

Thanks for joining this group, we have fun times, encourage each other, talk when we are down, play games with good themes (by the way the theme at the moment is Mexican) If you want help with recipes we can help you or point you in the right direction. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Thanks for the warm welcome:-). It is funny, but I have trouble being pleased with the weight I have lost – I just see all I have to go. I could notice the health improvements – cholesterol is now in a normal level, the GERD (reflux) completely gone (no more daily pills for that) and my auto immune illness is a lot better as well. But, I am still classed as obese, and have soo much further to go…

Wow! You have lost 8kg since July! That is awesome! That’s about a kg a week – how fantastic!

Maybe I should set myself some mini goals as well. Not sure what is reasonable yet, what is doable. I will have to think on that. I have been stuck in the ’90s’ for so long, that the day I see 89 will be so awesome!

I had the mushroom stroganoff for dinner – Yummers! I need to start looking for more recipes for next fasting day, now.

    Welcome Naptime!
What a great name to give yourself! I’m with JJ, thinking just WOW! when I read your post. (I lost close to 20kg over about 4 years by cutting out sugar, and have about 8 to go: began 5:2 a couple of months ago and realised it would work for me). I hope you find it suits you too. (I’m betting it will, it is just great how it can fit into life in a sustainable way.)
Cheers to you on your first Fast Day!

JJ I am so glad the injection went well. Good luck for the next few days of enforced rest, and fingers crossed you get under that 76 tomorrow!

    Hooray Charlie’s Mum! Congratulations!

    Next time EA!
    And Intesha!

How lovely to go to Floriade! Intesha.

I’m hoping it is just a short burst too Nik, enjoy your rugby tomorrow!

Thanks for your lovely comments about YamDaisy. I got some good things done today, and I will tell you all about our big day at the end of next Friday!

    Nigh night!

Getting late here now but OH been to Taiko practice and was late home. He is now cooking his dinner.(smells so good, pork chops with vegies) I had thought about having one of the pork chops seeing I had nothing all day but instead I had my usual two egg omelette with mushrooms and tomato, then diet jelly for dessert. I am now just drinking water as have a bit of a headache, probably from being tired and needed to drink more water I think. I have just sat down and watched TV and played computer games, I know yes it is boring especially when I see things that should be done. Why is it that when you know you are not allowed to do things that you get that spur of energy and see so much that needs to be done???? I did file a lot of papers that I had been working on and also cleaned up others and put them through the shredder. So looking a bit tidier if not cleaner!!!
Time to start thinking of bed and sleep off this headache!

    nigh night to all too……JJxxx

Oh dear, I got completely behind with reading posts because I didn’t check in today. And now we’ve used our bandwith for the month and have been ‘shaped’ so it’s painfully slow. I’ve read them all but I can’t remember much so I won’t try and comment on everything……Well done JJulie. Welcome Naptime – Bay is also in Canberra, you’ve done so well already. NikT, you’re back on track, that’s good to hear. EA, Intesha, Cinque, thinking of you.

Snap CM! – we are exactly the same weight today, you caught up with me! Well done on your great achievement. You won’t believe what I had for lunch yesterday – a steak sandwich and CHIPS. Everyone else ordered that and thought to heck with the Caesar salad and the inevitable plate envy, I’m having it too. It was huge and I ate it all. Guilt-free too. So I’ve put myself back in the 60s where I want to be. It was fun seeing 59.8 yesterday though. (Thanks for the nice words EA, CM, JJ & NikT). How about you CM – are you at goal weight now?

    Good morning fasters,

Well headache stayed with me for a lot of the night, so early morning took Nurofen and then thought to take my blood pressure. Yes it was up!! I am wondering if it is a effect from the injection, not to worry I have now also taken PB medication and will monitor it for the week.

I hope everyone had a great FD yesterday for those Friday fasters. And those non-FD Fridayers hope the day led into this lovely weekend. Weather here is just beautiful. We had a little chill again last night so the morning is crisp and there are wonderful cloudless blue skies. Usually September has started to really heat up, but we are having typical winter type days at the moment and loving it.

My weight this morning was 76.0……oh no not quite into the 75s. I weighed myself 3 times and still the same 76.0, then had a shower and asked myself, should I weigh again or be content with the first reading……silly question!!!
Hopped onto the scales and shock horror!!! 75.4!! could not believe my eyes so did the hop on hop off thing again a few times and still the same reading, so now I am happy happy, as I have not only got into the 75s but the lower side of them and not have officially lost 9kg exactly!! Just loving everything today.

Hope some of my fellow forum fasters have some good news also this morning. Busy day with the Taiko again, so will catch up with everyone again later.
    …….JJxxxx
