  • Finally decided to take the plunge! Had seen the tv show and read the book, but kept putting the diet off! My weight has been steadily going up for the last few years, but it’s now gone up to 11 stone and my clothes are all tight 🙁 I want to lose between 1 1/2-2 stone to feel like myself again.

I did my first fast day on Monday and am planning my next on Thursday. I’ll probably keep to this pattern unless I need to swap a fast day for something. Monday wasn’t as bad as I expected…until the evening! Had a boiled egg at breakfast (I might try and cut this out next time), a can of soup for lunch and a small dinner with lots of veg. I drank sugarfree squash/tea throughout the day to stave off the hunger pangs. The problem was in the evening. I went to bed with a stomach ache/headache and couldn’t get to sleep. When I woke up I still had the headache/stomach ache and ran to the kitchen to stuff my face (LUCKILY there wasn’t anything to eat in the house, so I had to settle for a bowl of cereal and fruit juice).

I felt pretty crappy for the rest of the day yesterday, and I’m not looking forward to my fast day tomorrow. Any advice?

    Thanks 🙂

Headaches seem quite common, in particular when people are just starting out.

Make sure that you drink enough so you don’t get dehydrated. A lot of fasters find a salty broth or cup of miso soup helpful.
Also make sure that you do not go cold turkey on caffeine.
Other than that play around with your eating until you find a pattern that suits you. Some people continue to eat three small meals a day while others do not eat until dinner time. Leaving some calories for a small snack before bed can be helpful as well, so the stomach does not rumble too much.

Thanks for the advice Dummerchen. I definately haven’t gone cold turkey with the caffeine! (Trying to cut back on the fizzy drinks though). I think I’m going to try no food until lunchtime tomorrow and a small dinner/snack in the evening. I have been keeping hydrated so I think it’s mind over matter with food 🙁

Oh dear…just demolished a whole packet of Wispa biscuits!

Pfff … you should at least try quality and demolish a bar of Green&Blacks or Divine chocolate. Cheapskate. *shakes her head in indignation*

Yes, it is mind over matter and it might take a few tries until you get the right eating pattern for a fast day. Don’t fret too much, you’ll get there. And the nice thing: you can still have your chocolate on a non fast day, just maybe not the whole pack in one go. 😉

Haha! I’m not a chocolate snob…I’ll eat whatever I can get my hands on! :-p I had a small dinner (to try and make up for the 6 choccie biscuits). Tomorrow’s a fresh start and then it’s Friday 😀
