    strange how similar dad’s situation sounds to your friend’s

    its amazing how exhausting it is just sitting in a hospital for hours on end

    my children managed to get here today for a visit and dad was pleased and held their hands for ages

    we just don’t know if they will ever see him again

    I really need the space to ‘break my heart’ but don’t want to do that in hospital corridors and don’t have a room at mums either

    anyway, sorry about all that

    A lovely bright day here and going out on walkabout around the shops looking for picture frames, hoping to get some steps in!

    Ginette…I am pleased your friends improving its nice they got it so wrong and if the anitibiotics work they can get home again. I agree have a day relaxing and have a back seat you are always there if needed.

    KP…..it’s not a good time for you also, just take it steady remember the children have visited and your Dad will be so pleased to see them. You have to be strong and your sorrow will come later but remember all the good times you had together. Fasting will wait until you are ready your weight will possibly come down on its own with the stress you are under. Keep strong for your Mum and look after yourself as well. We are here if you want us.

    Ian has gone on his own to the caravan to set it up… set off about 8.30 I did drop hints about it being mother day but it failed to register with him. … I don’t know where he has put my cards from the girls or my presents. ….

    Not a good start to the day……however I jumped on the treadmil and did 8,000 steps well actually 7998….I stopped my fit bit a little soon….πŸ˜† but it has got rid of my frustration. …I have not reached for the chocolate or biscuits to console myself though so perhaps I am making some progress….πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡

    Hope you other mums are having a better start to the day. ..I am off now to clean the kitchen mumbling as I go…..

    Yes you do need to do what you can and just being there means a lot. Yes the two situations sound similar. Mine is a friend’s Dad but I have got to know him quite well. I am just trying to support where I can.

    Your situation is personal and will affect you in many different ways. Do all you can can to cope with the situation and help others cope. Call McMillan for advice and support for you and your Mum. I shall try to find the number. These people can give practical and emotional help to you both.

    tonight is another bad night for him

    Hi everyone really sorry not been having much input! I have been dipping in when I’ve had 5 minutes but like I have said March is crazy! Last week was split into two halves for me Monday till Friday evening was brilliant and on point, from that point onwards all went wrong hit the pig train! Think subconsciously I knew I was going to have a bad day Saturday with a meal and cocktail party! So therefore Friday night became bad! And then yesterday was bad with the mentality of well I’ll start again on Monday! So had treats and a takeaway!

    So weighed this morning and I had stayed the same! Which is ok I guess as I know the salt etc will have pumped me up with the water weight!

    Another fragmented week this week should be good today and tomorrow but it’s my birthday on Thursday and my fiancΓ© taking me away Wednesday and Thursday!, then next week I have two days at the Cheltenham festival (Guinness!!!!!) then first week of the Easter holidays we are of on a all exclusive holiday to Majorca!!!

    Just got to have the mindset of be extra good when I can, and enjoy myself when I have too😈 , to be fair if I can maintain through March I should be ok then as I’ll be back to work in April!

    Been away on a hen weekend had a great time drank a bit to much food wise was okish jumped on scales and lost 1.7lb well pleased with myself must have been all the dancing. Got another hen weekend next week why do they need two…….that’s only a meal and I’ve chosen under 500 cals which they cater.

    All lovely, sunny and bright this morning. Hope everybody had a good weekend.

    Maybe had a bit too much wine and food this weekend with a couple of Β£1 Easter Eggs each about 200grs of chocolate in all. They were sat looking at us only one each to go. πŸ˜‡

    We both have had a chat this morning about our weight not moving much..we don’t really want to start swimming as once you start you have to continue. We are fasting today but we thought of giving 4.3 a try which would be Wednesday and Friday as well. Just trying for a few weeks and see how it goes to Easter then take stock again.

    Again Audrey went back to the drawing board with the weighing of food and had good results. I am thinking I am getting complacent with our food as our weight is not coming off like it did the first time we were on 5.2. So we are going to weigh the food, cut our portions smaller and planning better on what we are going to eat.

    Fast day today for me, am on my usual fish pot and mixed veg, it seems to work so why change it?

    Jean, going back to basics is definitely paying off for me, I think after a while we tend to over estimate our food and under estimate the calories…. what I am trying to do on fast days is get a really good workout in so it cancels out the food…..my fitness pal is great for measuring this with my fitbit….

    Plainy, just do your best, try to eat sensibly when you can, life happens enjoy it you can diet again after.

    It is indeed quiet… I too have had a good fast day, fish potatoes mixed veg. 50/50 milky coffee and I still have a cereal bar left if I feel I need it…

    Had a good walk on my treadmil, we walked to the local co-op today too and ian was amazed at how quicker and easier I am walking even uphill lol…..

    Pasta bake tomorrow to look forward too so happy day’s. ….

    Still here, in and out and nobody wants to talk! Lol

    We have had a good day my calories 506 for the day, so finished now. Porridge made with milk and water then dinner ham and egg salad, a few cup of teas.

    We have still been finishing the wardrobes so only 5000 steps today ( mainly around IKEA) everything being burnt towards my hands…feel sore but OK. Looking good as its only a small bedroom but takes two 3′ beds mainly for the grandchildren.

    Audrey….what sort of treadmill have you got, is it a electric? Where do you keep it?

    Hoping everybody doing OK as the others have said its all very quiet at the moment.

    I got treadmil of ebay. …it’s a small foldable electric one, . We keep it in the dining room and bring it into living room to work out. ….

    Well, just weighed in and although a few ozs less stayed the same as last week. So happy to settle with that.

    A good fd yesterday so hopefully will be good this week. Although Kristy is back again Fri-Sun. I find it so much easier when I am just catering for myself.

    Yes, thank you. Kristy went back to work..not sure how this London thing is going. I had hoped she would settle down .. been unsettled the last 2 years. Misses the country … sounds like its still a hike to work even being central. Everything pricey .. the money increase will probably be eaten up so to speak. Wish she had done another year with Formula 1 it was ideal…away for the week all over the world ..then home for 4 days. ( Plus lots of perks for me} lol

    Needs to have few children I reckon. Lol But would need to find a man that can cope with her expectations. Don’t think there is one. Lolol o

    Formula 1..hubbys favourite…giving that life up going around the world and with your perks, a big thing to consider doing… It always must be did I do the right thing….I suppose it has to stop sometimes. It takes a long time to settle from big changes.

    My daughter in US was in the same boat…working for Emirates in Dubai also flying around the world..then 3 children arriving, nanny helping, after 15 years then ground based ..in head office also working a 10 hour day and then later when the children in bed continuing to work. Just too much ….stay at home Mum now but she misses it big time. Dubai is la la land back to the real world and the children settled into a normal life and school. Misses the money but the children need her but she is still unsettled in the US after a year.

    You knew this was coming up, enjoy it and do fast days when you can. If you are not putting on anything that you have lost that is a good thing. Try to avoid thinking one day of overindulgence leads to a weekend of it as that will get you back into bad habits. Remember overindulgence got us here in the first place. Well done for staying the same this week.

    I’m on a non fast day today. Yesterday they said that the friend I had been visiting was going into a care home!? I’ve taken a back seat at the moment as there is a lot of family around him. I’m waiting to hear how he is today. I’ve got car problems so I am spending a bit of time looking for cars. I need to get rid of mine.

    I am still fasting though other days aren’t great.

    If you are doing 4:3 it is much easier with a day inbetween as it looks like you are planning. I do Mon, Weds and Fri. I know I am definetly getting complacent on non fast days. Fast days are ok, although maybe I need to go back to what I was eating then as well to see if that helps.

    As we are keeping a mean week…just weighed lunch…fresh fruit salad…usually a bowl I call 150 calories…a few different weights showing …..naughty always go for the lower or middle option on MFP..πŸ˜€….just kidding ourselves…..I weighed each fruit portion…250 calories!

    I know different fruits of the season will weigh different…makes you think…scales will be out for a few weeks.

    KT so very sorry for your loss. It will feel like unbearable heartache but you will find strength from the beautiful memories you have.
    Not feeling very positive this week. Got an anxious head on for some strange reason.
    Sticking with it though – weigh in Friday am. Another FD Thursday so fingers crossed.
    Having a eek in Barcelona 4th April so hoping to have lost 6lbs or more
    I hate this cold weather ! Me too looking forward to spring warmth !

    Well .. a nasty start to the day here with lots of rain. Hopefully clear off a bit by 11am walking time. lol

    Yay lots of us fasting today. I am doctoring my Monday left over soup … there is a nice base there so another chopped chicken breast .. veg .. oxo and away I go. Just make up with a milky coffee and a bit of fruit. Must confess to being a bit slap happy with counting on FDs just use the old weight watchers cals in my head from years ago. .. Ok so far… I think.

    Trouble is I know if I get too serious I will get bored long term as with other diets. I suppose as we aways say its what works for you. lol

    A awful dark raining day…and its in all day for us..

    Strange fasting for us today, I really feel we have hit a plateau, since holiday. We are doing very good in the week with a few naughties like we always have had at weekends while on 5.2 but not going over too much. If you cut everything back its then a general failing diet.

    Hubby says fish and chips are calling next week to kick start us…it usually works…..we will weigh on Saturday morning after our next FD and hope something moves!

    Hemmy….yes the both girls have had it too good, too young, then they have to get back to the real world….usually it’s the other way round start low and work up….I wouldn’t of minded being in her shoes and having the lovely chances and the confidence she has.

    I must say our little corner is very little at the moment. We just get used to the names then they disappear. Lol

    Having a rest as it was very hard going walking this morning. Fields under water ..fishing lake high.

    What with wet clothes … wellies nearly 2 hours. I feel I have done my share of exercise this morning. Lol

    Just had my milky coffee… later need to go and do the lottery and catch any mark downs at my local shop.

    It does seem in the world of dieting now NO Sugar is the buzz word.

    Can you remember when it was all low fat with Rosemary Connelly and all. Now its full fat everything which is better for you.

    Can we hope in time they will say chocolate and sweets are good and we must eat them to get slim. Lol

    hi all, started 5:2 on Monday just finishing my second fast day this week. having about 300 calories on fast days, just putting lots of veg on the plate to keep hunger away. does anybody else feel cold, tired and a little dizzy on fast days? I started at 18st 5 and looking to get to 15st before my holiday in October. I’m in Scotland.

    I have been reading ‘ Dr Fung’ very interesting reading….go to the top of the general forum, above BODY, to ‘Americans’ it’s a way down their first page sending you to a web site, number 4 and number 6…although I am now reading them all, about an hour each. A doctor top of his field in fasting, fat, excerise, heart disease, strokes and diabetes covering the last 80 odd years of the wrong information we have been given, it goes over your head here and there but I found it very interesting. I shall be throwing some of my things in my cupboards out!

    Low Carb Breakfast Muffins. ( Thought these looked good) Ideal if you don’t want a breakfast with sugar.
    Ingredients

     4 servings

    6 eggs
    1 – 2 scallions, finely chopped
    4 – 8 thin slices of chorizo or salami, alternatively 3 oz. (70g) bacon.
    4 oz. (100 g) cheese, shredded
    1 tablespoon pesto, green or red (optional)
    salt and pepper

    Instructions
    1Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
    2Chop spring onion and bacon.
    3Whisk the eggs together with seasoning and pesto. Add the cheese and stir.
    4Place the batter in muffin forms and add bacon, chorizo or salami.
    5Bake for 15–20 minutes, depending on the size of the muffin forms. xx

    I do think you should try and eat your 500 cals on a FD though. Your symptoms may be worse if you don’t eat enough. Stick to 500 for FD, your TDEE for other days and you will lose weight!!

    I am out tomorrow for lunch with my best friend Vicky she is the mother of our God daughters who call us granny n grandpa we laughingly call her our adopted daughter….. the last time we met without the girls was 7 years ago before Charlotte was born….

    Think your symptom’s are pretty general at the start… then it settles down. Replaced by a good feeling of achievement and energy.

    Like Karen said .. you would probably be better eating the 500 cals as per the plan.

    Yes I know what you mean about misjudging calories. I try and overestimate. I no longer visit the hospital, he is being transferred into a home for end of life care. His sister has come down to spend time with him and she only wants family there.

    I have put car problems on hold now. I have been catching up with housework. Yes a horrible dark day. Let’s hope tomorrow will be better. Well it’s worth going to hospital to get fish and chips!! πŸ™‚

    I am on a fast day today. I wasn’t on the forum yesterday as I had a bit of sad news which was quite a shock. I’ve gone back to fruit and yoghurt and fish in sauce and vegetables today. I just fancied a change and have had a shooting delivery which included fish in sauce. This is very low in calories about 110 although quite small, it gives a lively flavour to the vegetables though. I can still have something else for 100 calories if I want.

    I sorry that you couldn’t avoid the rain. I did Rosemary Conley once as well. I still have low fat but look for low sugar options. That is why I like skyr youghurt. Dissappointly they didn’t deliver my strawberry one today so I will need to take a trip to get it.

    What is a scallion? I thought that was a naughty child!! πŸ™‚

    Are you male or female? Yes fast days at the beginning can cause headaches. It could be lack of caffeine or lack of salt. An oxo in cube in water will help if it is salt and something with caffeine in if it isn’t. I wish you luck reaching your target, you will need to be strict as its only about 7 months away.

    I’m glad that fast day went well. Are you all packed up yet? It sounds as if you struggled today. I do if I don’t prepare (at least mentally) what food I’m going to have. Enjoy your TV in bed and lunch with your friend tomorrow, sounds like a good catch up is planned. See you tomorrow.

    Hi everyone
    Just to let you know I’m still in the land of the living πŸ™‚

    Things have been chaotic one way and another. I think I’ve managed to catch up with the majority of the posts, and had some smiles and tears as I was reading them. Can’r reply individually – brains not working as well as it should – but suffice it to say I’m thinking of you all and wishing you well.

    Asthma has been really bad, have to go to hospital tomorrow for chest x rays and blood tests so keeping fingers crossed.

    Had some difficulty sticking to 5:2, but don’t think I’ve actually put on any weight, had a fast day today and managed that OK so hoping to get back into the swing of things.
    Have an appointment at the Asthma clinic next week and the Dr is telling the nurse to prescibe tablets to try and help me to stop smoking – wonder if they also have some wonder tablets to remove all the stress! Poor excuse for smoking I know but sometimes I think if it wasn’t for the cigs and coffee I’d go completely bonkers instead of only halfway there! πŸ™‚

    Coffee try to look after yourself goo dyou can do an FD as that is something to focus on when stressed.

    The cigarette’s are a problem I have experienced with others. Its a catch 22. Have you tried patches. They helped my friend.
