• I had a look at those cakes, look lovely but they are made with a sugar substitute that doesn’t have a very good reputation. I’ve heard of this product before so looked it up.

Check it out.

Personally I would rather have a piece of cake every now of then that has real sugar in it than eat more regularly with chemicals in it.

Good fast day for me. 450 cals. Bedtime doon.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Thank you ladies. I was in a right grump yesterday-couldn’t do anything without being in pain so ended up on the sofa bored and hungry! I stared fasting but by the evening I was too peeved off to continue and had a Thai curry (albeit a smaller portion). Managed to lose 3/4lb so better than nothing. Today the pain has lessened but still there when I take big breaths but is slightly worse in my shoulder/back for some reason. But the sun is shining so in determined to get out and about, get some fresh air and wake up a bit. Find that positivity again! I haven’t been to the dr as I’m sure it’ll clear up by itself.

I’m looking forward to getting the rowing machine up and running once im better. I don’t enjoy many sport/exercises but that is one I like (plus swimming and dancing) so I think a little bit every day will have a good impact.

I’m not a huge fan of sweeteners-I suffered a lot of headaches as a child and Dr put it down to artificial sweeteners. I agree with Jaye-would rather have a real cake less often. While I love to bake cakes I often give them away as I’m not so bothered about eating them (my bf work knew me for my cakes a long time before I met any of them). It’s more about the baking for me. Although I’m often guilty of having a sneaky lick of the bowl!

xXx

Thats still a great loss Welshy! Well done and I hope you do decide to visit the docs if it doesnt get better soon, but glad its not hurting as much today!
My first proper fast day today and so far so good.. mind you it is only 9.30am! I find my hunger only kicks in when I first eat something in the morning, so the longer I can delay eating anything, the better for me!

I dont know how many of you ladies use protein powder, but I found the most amazing protein brownie recipe last night and decided to give it a go!

For anyone who is interested:

1 scoop of protein powder
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
60mls of almond milk (I assume other types of milk will also work, as will water)

Mix it up into a fudgy batter and microwave for 30 seconds. Let it cool for a bit and it should still be a little saucy but it tastes damn good!! Would taste pretty awesome with a bit of ice cream on it too!! Maybe this weekend!

Priyac, thanks for the recipe I’m sure some people would love to try it. I personally just eat a good healthy diet so have no need for a protien powder, what do you use it for, meal replacement? I also only indulge in treats occasionally when I’m out. I do that so I can enjoy sharing a dessert with someone, much prefer to enjoy food with good company as I live alone and to be honest because I don’t want to have things in at home. That old saying, ‘if I don’t buy it, I won’t eat it’ lol

Mimi Spencer is now working for My London NHS and writing on their website. Here’s what she said about treats: I’ve thought about how to make treats exactly that (the Oxford Dictionarydefines a treat as β€˜an event or item that is out of the ordinary and gives great pleasure…’),

Here’s the link to the page, there’s also a meal recipe at the end.

Welshy Glad to hear the pain is better, it will move around to your back and shoulder. It’s fantastic that you can bake and give it away. I don’t think I could do that, the smell of baking is fantastic. Good to hear you have lost again. My knee is killing me (taking 8 CO-codomol a day at the moment just to keep moving) but since I know it’s going to take weeks maybe months to get it sorted I have to make myself stick to this WOL. Getting fatter will not just make my knee and back worse but will depress me. There is less pain than there was 33lbs ago lol. Going to the docs today, asking for X-rays which I’ll do tomorrow then hopefully a quick appointment with the specialist to get another cortisone injection in time for my holidays June 11th. If I could also get a new brace for my left ankle the holiday would be so much better. Fingers crossed but I doubt it.

I’ve lost 1lb for yesterday’s fast, now 16.8 from 19.2. It used to be a 2lb loss (gutted) lol. But still, it’s going down and I will be grateful for that. NFD today, out later with a friend, movie and something to eat. No food in the movies though! One of my biggest achievements on this diet, breaking one of my worst bad habits. No longer eating a full bag of M&M peanuts (just 1100 cals!!!) I believe the big diet coke used to make it easier to just keep going. Sometimes I would have a big hotdog too! With sugar, I mean ketchup on top lol.

Happy fasting everyone.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Thats brilliant! Well done on the loss!

I actually just incorporate protein powder into my diet, because on a normal day I try to get in at least 120g, and theres only so much chicken and eggs a girl can eat! For me I focus a lot on eating plenty of protein just because it keeps me fuller, and its something I began having when I started doing weight training just after I lost my first 2 stone on 5:2.. I started following IIFYM which concentrated a lot on the macro nutrients I consumed in order to change my body in the most effective way. This along with weight training really helped to tone my body out a bit. I guess since then, its something ingrained in my head that I seem to naturally follow… plus if I can eat a clean chocolatey treat that is low in carbs and high in protein (the recipe makes 1 brownie @ 24g protein, 4g carb & 1.5g fat) , i’ll take it!

My niece is working with a personal trainer. She hasn’t lost 1lb but she sure has changed her body shape. She looks fantastic, when you see the pictures of before and during from the side she’s really made changes. We talk about food and nutrician and have some meals together. She’s a great cook! Her trainer doesn’t believe in fasting but does on calorie counting. She’s told him how good it’s been for me and he says if she keeps at it for life with the calorie counting on NFDs (which I do) then it will work. She told me about making sure I have lots more protien than carbs at any one meal. So I know where you are coming from.

I also get the need for some treats, but I have such a long way to go that I can not let sugar derail me. I’m an ex carb junkie so have to keep my old bad habits in check. I want to be slim and healthy and for the first time in my life I could not give a hoot about sugar and desserts lol. The times I do is out eating with friends and once while I indulge (well 4 times in 10 weeks) Although once a week I have coffee with 2 friends, they have cake I do not and you know what… I don’t bat an eye, I just enjoy my frothy skinny cappuccino. I can’t tell you how empowering it is to feel like that about sugar/carbs/desserts. That is why I encourage people to see a treat as a just that and not something to feel deprived off when it’s not part of a daily eating plan. That’s not healthy eating, that’s cutting out healthy foods to eat sugar because you’re addicted. I use the word you’re as ‘one’ lol not you in particular. So that’s why I am so strict.

Well done changing your body and losing weight, it’s such a great achievement. We all just have to remeber that if we take time off, be it a day, a weekend or a week, let’s just get right back to it. All is not lost!!! Just don’t let it be months and undo all the great work we are all doing.

Welahy, you sound like you love exercise and can’t wait to get back to it.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Hi everyone!

Just at the end of FD, much better this is my fourth week, don’t trust the scales on a daily basis, but clothes are looser already. So this morning, I forgot my fast breakfast, usually a boiled egg. Was in a mood cos thought “how the hell will I manage til 7pm” πŸ™ but ok, water and Miso, have just had my meal, so a total of 472 calories, pleased πŸ™‚

I rarely use sweeteners, hate the taste of low fat yoghurts and the like cos of the saccharin, but I heard some of the newer ones were better, such as Stevia, not so bad on the teeth either, so I might try the Lemon drizzle, not this week though.

Priyac I have tried the protein powder (am a vegetarian, eat fish though) so sometimes need the boost, I use one called Rawlicious, and mix it with frozen berries, coconut water and a bit of almond butter πŸ™‚ good after a work out.

Jayegirl, love hearing your advice, sounds like you’re doing an amazing job, sorry to hear about the knee

Speak soon

Hi everyone ,

Jaye sorry to hear about your knee watch the side affects of co codamol can be horrible but I expect you know that and have to balance pain relief I hope you get a X-ray soon you are doing so well and another loss , some weeks when I thought I had done really well I lost nothing then other weeks when I had not done so well I lost more , the body is avery complicated machine and everyone’s works differently,

On the artificial sweetener topic I have given up any thing artificial and highly. Processed if I want a piece of cake I have a much smaller bit than I would have done before and not very often, I buy real butter just eat very little of it. It seems to me any diet and low fat products are laden with sugar or artificial sweeteners can’t be any good for us .
Did my second fast day today usual cup a soup and tonight big prawn salad very busy today which has helped as I am finding fasting harder now I’ve reached a stable weight not sure why ?
Welshy glad to hear your feeling a bit better

Hi Twigglet, yes they are not great but it is keeping me mobile, in a fashion lol. I’m limping and my knee/hip keeps giving out. There is just no need for it, really… lol. Getting an MRI on knee and an ultrasound on my hip. I nearly jumped out of my boots when he felt my hip! Funny cos no pain with all the man handling of my knee lol. Felt like a fraud. Thinks I might have bursitis on my hip. Also sent a referral to the Doc that did my first cortisone injection in my knee and asked if he would do it before my holiday June 11th. That would be great. So at the moment if I want to keep moving pain killers are the lesser evil. I’ve used them on and off for years. I only use as needed but right now I need the full whack, but I don’t like them so I have been taking them willy nilly and I know it won’t work effectively that way so from tomorrow I will take them properly. Good job I have given up drink for 6 weeks lol.

I wonder if it’s a mental issue, not that you are mental lol. That now you have got where you want to be you are losing a bit of interest? Just keep reminding yourself how important it is to stick to this way of life. I am sure it is a passing phase and you will find fasting easy again soon.

Weight loss is slowing down for me… I knew it was coming! I will just have to deal with it! So long as it still goes down.

I am the same about sugar subs and having a bit of real cake occasionally. If sugar is evil then I see a substitute as the evil-evil twin lol. The stuff they do to make it into a sugar is just awful and the chemicals in it makes me shiver lol.

Fast day tomorrow for me, Ginette is having her 3rd in a row!!! Applause for Ginette.

Bedtime, happy fasting everyone.

Hi Welshy

Yes I should have said about the sweetners. I only use stevia. At least this natural.

Everyone has a right to be grumpy sometimes.

Hi Jaye

You have only got through one fast so maybe wait until the end of the week. Now I am on FBD I only weigh one a week. I want the surprise.

I see treats as many foods a large orange, a fresh fig and granary bread (in moderation). Yes also all the other things you are talking about.

Hi Beldyboop

Well done on your fast let’s hope you reap the rewards. Yes I meant to say I use Stevia to sweeten anything. I did some rhubarb and added a little. You really need to little.

Jaye

I really hope you can get some relief and they look into it thoroughly. You will be a new woman soon!!

…..and it was an accidental one, but thanks for the applause. : ))

Hi Twigglet

Yes as Jaye said psychological. Are you going to drop back to one a week?

Ginette

Hi Jaye,

made me laugh im actually quite mental ! hope you get that injection before your holiday

I think it might be psychological ive stuck to the 5.2 and lost but I live in fear of putting it back on im so happy with my weight now.

Ginnette I am trying to find a balance but I think for the next month I will continue with the 2 days and just try adding a few more healthy calories on my NFD as I like the control over food that fasting gives me, allthough next week I am on holiday a staycation so lots to do at home in the garden, its the first time off work I have had all year so I will miss the disapline that being at work gives me with my fasting . But i do need a break so hopefully I will manage 1 fat next week and see what happens OH has planned a few pub lunches so I will make healthy choices

Well done G inette on 3FD I did it a couple of times its hard but im sure you will sail through it

Hi Everyone,

Fab Ginette on 3 FD’s, that’s inspirational!

Twigglet that sounds very sensible keeping the 2 days, at least for a while, agreed that being at work provides discipline πŸ˜‰ enjoy your week off. Tomorrow is my FD, and it’s my busiest day, no lunch break as such, and finish at 6pm, so no time to be hungry, gets a bit too long around 9pm

Today hasn’t been the best, have a cracking headache, went for a run this morning, thought I could get rid of it, no chance, even with the blustery wind, live near the sea. Also had headache after FD last week, so have looked at a thread, fairly common, so taking rehydration sachet, not ideal, as working from home with a pile of marking, and have Zumba later, buuuuu!

Jaye I managed to find some natural yoghurt with less sugar in it…not easy. I’m not supposed to eat too much diary due to my thyroid probs (the horomones they add to milk and cheese) but sometimes not sure if to believe everything about foods which are good verus bad. There is a really nice diary free yoghurt, called CoYo, anyone know it? low in sugar, but higher in fat as it’s coconut,
but too expensive for daily use πŸ™

Am happy FD is tomorrow, but we’ll see how I do on “dangerous” Friday, when I let everything go a bit, hopefully it won’t involve a conversation with the biscuit tin, my definite weakness…

Good luck to all on FBD…:)

Ginette I am WAY too impatient to wait for a surprise lol. I am well known with family and friends, I want it now and I want to know now lol. Hence I pop on daily. Lost another lb today though, and that is using the lbs not stones and lbs. I hate those ounces I really do lol.

Mental Twigglet… Join the club! I am for sure mental in many ways lol. I am also now a Fast diet and food bore. I think my friends hate me… I can’t help but remark on why I won’t eat things. I must stop it lol.

Boots…. STAY AWAY FROM THE BISCUIT TIN!!!!! I am watching you… every time you go near it this is going to pop into your head… Jaye says ‘nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’. lol. Where can you get that yogurt? I actually bought a huge tub of half fatgreek yogurt in Lidl this week. It was cheaper than buying 6 single ones!! I will just throw it if it goes off. It will keep for an age anyway. I like it on my fruit and keep meaning to use as a sauce but actually I can get away with just 2/3 tbsp of Elm lea.

Jaye πŸ™‚

I’m on a FD today and it feels pretty good to be back in control after the start of the week was a little chaotic. The pain in my chest/shoulder is slowly easing and I’m able to move a lot easier. I’m feeling much more positive-I struggle when I’m forced to sit still!

I’m slightly jealous of you girls being able to fast during work days. As I’m at home all day there’s always the temptation to pick at food. I used to find it much easier to contr my eating when I was still working.

I remember reading some where (either this thead or another) that you should avoid food shopping in a FD. I actually disagree and quite like shopping on a FD. I find that as I’m thinking about good/bad foods a lot more my shop is full of lots more good foods. I actually baked a banana cake today too. An odd thing to do on a FD I admit but I really love baking, and so does my daughter so its one of our favourite things to do (plus I had some yucky old bananas, what’s a girl to do!?) I can honestly say I haven’t been tempted in the slightest to eat any! My daughter licked the bowl before I could get a look in too! I don’t think I’ll be tempted to eat any as bf and little monkey will eat it before I can get a crumb anyway. Plus it kinda feels good to have it there and be strong enough to not want it. It’s like I can pass the test.

Do you ladies have anything nice planned for bank hol weekend? I may have to shift my Monday FD as we’ve got friends coming over for lunch. Plus we’re hoping to do some more work in the garden and make a new seating/fire pit area

xXx

Hi Twigglet

I can imagine it must be quite hard to give up. I don’t deserve any praise for the tree fast days really as one was accidental. I am on my planned fast day today.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to a meal with my son. He is going to do hairy dieters chicken bake 370 calories, I am looking forward to the chips though. Cooked in the oven Parmesan chips with truffle oil. Sounds nice.

Beldyboop

You have done really well to gain control. It feels good doesn’t it.

Well done on avoiding the pitfalls.

Jaye I used to weigh myself almost daily, now I want the surprise. So your weight loss this week is adding up.

Hi Welshy

I’m glad the pain seems to be easing.

I am not working. I was made redundant in July and then we had a family tragedy. I am really stressed because of this. I went to see my doctor today and although she is really pleased with the weight I have lost, I haven’t been able to get the blood pressure under control. It was controlled last year. She has now suggested Talking Therapies, I don’t know what this is really, I now it involves cognitive behavioural therapy. She is also referring me to a blood specialist at the hospital. I never even knew they had these. I hope to have lost more weight by then, maybe the blood pressure will come down. She won’t let me go back to work yet as finding a job, interview process etc she thinks will be too much.

This is why I am so active on the forums……this is a kind of therapy for me.

It will all pass I am sure and I hope to get it down soon, I would like to be working.

I also shop on fast days.

Ginette

Hi Ginette wow you have been through the mill and back again I expect you have heard all the old cliches so I won’t repeat but I do know from experience talking therapies do really work give it a go if it doesn’t work for you don’t go again nothing to lose by trying, I love reading your posts your a inspiration xx

Welshy I would love a try of banana cake I hate baking don’t really like cooking but have cooked for my family for so many years I have made myself head chef or rather they have let me ! I love nothing more than going out to eat 2 out of my 3 have flown the nest and my youngest at uni I lmiss them all but don’t miss the food shopping and cooking but they all seem to make it home on a Sunday especially if there’s a wiff of a roast dinner !!

Jaye keep up the food bore I’m not bored your a wealth of knowledge and have great advice to give I love it

Just had a lovely home cooked curry and put 2 portions in the freezer for next week feeling very full now

Thanks Twigglet

I try not to think of any problems really. I find it easier that way, they are obviously staying in my subconscious though. Maybe it will help. I shall try as it is the second time she has suggested it. Maybe I am ready for it this time. I really don’t want more tablets I take enough anyway and would like to cut tgem down. No chance of that just yet.

This is one of the reasons I turned to 5:2 to lose weight but primarily to get my blood pressure under control.

I shall carry on chipping at the weight and hopefully the ready will follow. I think health wise I am still one of the lucky ones.

Many thanks for your kind words.

Ginette

Ginette

Im with you there gid Ginette and not being able to work. Having fasted at work and at home for me I prefer it not in work. Mind used to get figgy by 3pm and I used to have porridge for breakfast and only fast on days I finished at 3.

I find cooking for one a bore but completely necessary if I want to enjoy this way of life so I have started cooking when I’m home. I seem to be eating a lot of cous cous on fast days lol. It’s filling, tasty, dead easy and doesn’t need much sauce. Tonight I had it with a lamb shoulder chop which I cut into thin strips and literally cooked for two mins! Cooked a shallot with a bit of garlic, fried up the lamb, added lots of pepper and a bit of salt, 2 tablespoons of elm lea cream, cooked up some asparagus and bobs your uncle! Dinner in 5 mins and soooo tasty. The lamb was so tender and juicy. And it was low carb in that it’s such a small amount that the meal was 20% carb, 40 protien and 40 fat. What’s your curry recipe @twigglet?

My fast day is done, very successful. Will do another on Friday.

Happy fasting.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Hi Jaye

The strangest thing is I had a cup of soup at lunch time and I really didn’t fancy eating tonight. I did as it was ready to cook. I only had half of tge vegetables as I really wasn’t hungry.

Such a strange problem. I am hoping that I shall feel more like eating tomorrow. I feel really tired I have done 35 minutes exercise. Didn’t have tge energy to do HIIT. I had a bad night only three and a half hours sleep and a couple in the chair. So unusually for me I am going to bed early. In about 20 minutes as I am struggling to keep awake.

Will catch up tomorrow.

Ginette

Hope you slept better Ginette that’s always been my issue I’m always awake by 5am however late I go too bed up with the lark me ! Even worse when I’m fasting.

That lamb dish sounds yummy Jaye I love cous cous with chopped salad and at the moment I’m big on pomegranate seeds in it.

My very basic curry recipe is so easy and quick

Fry light in the pan chuck in onions , garlic , ginger ( I cheat and use the chopped jars
Add Schwartz curry powder I use the hot one you need a good tablespoon
Chilli powder
Then chuck in chicken or lamb
Tomatoe purΓ©e
Tin of chopped toms
Stock cube
Bit of water
1/2 teaspoon sugar balances acid in toms

Simmer 1/2 hour or longer it really doesn’t matter season take off the heat and stir in a bit of natural yogurt

Easy I sometimes make more complicated ones as my family loves curry and I now have a great box of spices but this is a easy quick fail safe.

Happy fasting today everyone I’m not but I will be very mindful in my eating I’ve got very into natural yogurt with a small amount of healthy muesli and raspberries in it gives me a bit of natural sweetness I sometimes crave and I’m still eating up last years rasberries out of my garden nearly all gone .

Hiya!

FD for me today, and up early doing reports (:() still have headache lingering from yesterday, so loads of water today.

Ginette, you sound like a very strong lady. I had some therapy a couple years ago, after a family bereavement and divorce :(, it helps a lot, when you’re ready for it, some people prefer 1:1 than group CBT

Jayegirl, will think of your NTLSF with the biscuits, I found I don’t even like many of them! only chocolate digestives are ever worth it, but all are garbage that rot your teeth, that’s what I’m saying.

I like cooking, but live alone, so don’t cook a huge amount, a like simple dishes, lentil stews and poached eggs, prepare a lot of salads. Welshy I love curry, and usually do a lentil curry. Sounds fab to have raspberries from the garden.

Speak soon, good luck with all FD’s. Overall I think I prefer FD’s at work, but also find by 5pm ish, am becoming to get “floaty”, today I finish a bit earlier..

Ginette I also had 1 on 1 therepy a few years ago now. Same thing, family death, divorce and a few other traumas. It worked very well. I also, as we touched on before like the mental relaxing exercises and CDs. Try it, if you don’t like it don’t go again. I went with that attitude and actually found it a great help. Went in wondering what the hell I would say, I never shut up lol. Everything just poured out. It was a bit less intense but very eye opening after that.

I ate breakfast today, unusual for me and mostly because I have all this fruit that needs eating. Since I eat out 3 times a week and don’t eat breakfast I’m buying more than I can consume. I like the idea of variety so I have all kinds, apples, bananas, tangerines, two different types of melon lol, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, grapes and even pomegranate seeds lol. Anyway, it was delicious as everything was so ripe, put a tablespoon of fat free greek ypg on it from my family size bucket for 99p from Lidl lol. So might have 3 small meals rather than 2 today. I also like a lot of fruit in my salads, and nuts and seeds. So note to self… Buy just 3 types of fruit at a time.

Off to try on some dresses today and maybe a swimsuit if I see one in my size. Not much in my town other than Evans and Bon Marche, neither great stores but I’m just going into town today. I love Simply Be, much trendier. I got a little catalog from Bon so going to check out their dresses for my holidays. They go to 22/24 I think in the regular line and in the catalogue had a higher range. I tend to be a size up from an Evans size but fingers crossed I might find something. Need a new swimsuit. 2 new ones from last year are massive around the leg area and the bust (errr just altogether too big lol) so you can see my tummy… Uggg. Im not subjecting any poor holiday makers with those lol. Shame, they are beautiful and only used on one holiday. Might try one of those that are a little dress? Being an apple my stick legs come out from this huge tummy lol Ive seen a nice one in Simply be but that’s a trip to the city. It’s a shame from the waist up I don’t look to bad. From the waist down…. Titanic comes to mind lol.

Boots good luck today. You are getting a lot of headaches even on none fast days. Have you thought about what is causing it? Lack of water, lack ot too much caffeine, body not happy with not having food for long periods and perhaps needs a few small meals, ️ANY meds that might be doing it. Does the Miso help. Did you have them prior to fasting. Is this your 4th week now? Hope it shifts today, they do sound more like migraines to me because they stay around so long. I get them, only thing that shifts them is codine. That’s what they put in the migraine tabs you buy in the pharmacy. Hope you get them sorted out soon.

Twigglet the curry sounds lovely, taken a screen shot. And raspberries from the garden, how fabulous.

Will let you know if the shopping expedition turns out to be rewarding!

Good luck all.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Hi Ginette and JayGirl I have also had a little bit of therapy which seemed to confirm what I already kind of knew which is that I am an emotional eater and use food as a crutch – I eat when upset or angry or sad or anything really – I had a dreadful day at work today and the children have come home from school all feeling off colour – I have not stopped eating all day and it is all of the food that I consider to be “teat” types of food ie high fat and salt stuff full of carbs am sitting writing this post feeling positively stuffed and disappointed in myself. I may well try to do a fast day tomorrow am wondering if that will compensate for the overindulgence today…..

Hi Fizzy, mine was grief counselling rather than anything to do with my eating. I am more a carb junkie who grew up with lots of sweet foods or ‘eat what you want so long as you eat’ because my Mum and Dad split when I was five and we all lived with Dad. That set me up to make bad choices.

I have to say that fasting is the only way of eating that has stopped my emotional eating and I’ll tell you why. Because of what you said, it’s the type of food you crave. Hunger is satiated by anything, even a plate of brocolli. If you are eating because you’re bored, fedup, happy, sad, or just because your brain asks for high fat, high sugar. That causes an addiction and more importantly massive spikes in your insulin. That fat and sugar is converted straight to fat. Your brain stops getting the cut off signal that makes the hormone to say you are full and in fact will feel sick if you keep going. It’s never enough…. Is it?

For me I went cold turkey from day one. But I was so ready to lose weight and change, as my sisters say, both of whome are struggling…. I am in the zone, it’s my time. I stuck 100% to 500 cals on FDS I stayed way under my TDEE on NFDs. I only ate when I was physically hungry, I stopped eating potatos, pasta, regular bread, crumpets, teacakes and cereals. I literally lived on those, so mostely a high carb/high sugar diet. Of course I tried to eat better, started to cook and eat a balanced meal but I would still eat way too many carbs. I also drank diet coke, a can a day. I don’t touch it now. I was never huge on sweets but aI eat out 3 times a week so probably once a week I would indulge. That stopped.

In all honesty I don’t care about sugar, chocolate, sweet foods, high carbs anymore. It’s been 11 weeks, I’ve had 4 desserts in that time and pasta once. I sometimes have the very thin Singapore noodles whrn aI eat out but it’s a low cal dish. Of course I live alone and don’t have to buy food for kids and have it all around me so that makes it easier. On the other hand it means I have a lot more time on my hand alone when I can be distracted by food. Also means a great deal of effort to make sure that I cook and eat well.

So that’s how I did it. Within a week I was already feeling detoxed and my cravings were gone. I still had alcohol on Saturdays, most of them. I’ve just given ot up for 6 weeks though, one week down which was fine.

Ginette will give you her version of how she’s doing. She took a bit longer to come off sweet things but now she can very much take or leave it.

Ginette…. I don’t think 3 fast days in a row is a good idea for you, or me to be honest. I think you need a day off from it and you need to keep your appitie going. You don’t want to get ill from not eating enough. I know this was accidental but I think if it comes up again you should have that as your fast day and have a rest day. I’m sure that’s also why you suddenly got very little sleep. Hope your appetite is better today and you get enough sleep tonight and you’re feeling a bit better? When is the meals ith your son?

Jaye πŸ™‚

Hi JayeGirl thanks for giving your advice it is really appreciated and makes perfect sense. I have given myself a talking to and am going to keep strong and continue as I have been feeling quite optomistic on this plan. Apologies for any mistakes am making on my posts as I have never taken part in a forum of any kind on the internet! Have just discovered that there is more than one page to each post…am learning

Fizzy, you are doing brilliantly! To sudenly start fasting is a mean feat and a huge change to your body and mind. But already you feel physically and mentally better. It’s a great feeling to start gsining control over your body and food. Really Spurs you on. You are doing nothing wrong and we all have to find what suits our life the best with this WOL (way of Life). We purely give tips and what has worked for us. But factually, giving up sugar cold turkey is the best way of cutting the ties with it.

When you are checking labels look at the sugar content. Say it’s a yoghurt, you want the sugar to be no higher than 5g per 100g. More than this is high so try to avoid. Yogurts are a mindfield. Stay away from diet goods. When you remove fat from food you have to replace the taste with something. In processed foods it’s sugar. Sugar equals fat in your body. Fat, good fats, butter, olive oil, oily fish, avocado and nuts for example are all great fats and you body uses these well. I strive to eat 40% fat, 40% protien and 20% carbs in a day. I don’t always get it right but carbs are always the smallest figure. Read about fats, carbs, protien, how to eat carbs with protiens in order for your body to utilise it better and in particular read about sugar. Instead of potatos eat sweet potatos, they are low in GI, keep you fuller for longer. Use Pilau rice or brown if you like it not white. Cut bread down as much as possible, try low GI bread. Waterfields has NO sugar in it and half the cals of other breads. Don’t eat pasta too often, all these things help you to lose weight, get healthy and cut cravings for carbs/sugars.

If you want to join our secret Facebook page add me. JAYE BLOGS. I will bore you with pics, recipes and foodie facts lol.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Evening all Jaye you are a well of valuable information I love your posts and wholeheartedly agree with the giving up sugar makes the whole experience easier sugar really is a hidden poisen

Ginette I hope your feeling well rested today after a good sleep and have been eating well today

I’ve just got back from food shopping for the weekend spent far too much money but my sons back from university tomorrow for a long weekend and tomorrow my daughter hands her last assignment in and she has finished uni after 4 long years so we will share a bottle of fizz together and I will be cooking again but as we are all eating healthy there will be no puddings !
Last day at work for me tomorrow then a week off can’t wait but slightly worried that the fridge will be calling me all week
Jaye I did see some super swimming costumes in debenhams in all sizes and ones like little dresses worth a look online my eldest daughter who I think has all the boobs in the family on her chest can never find any swimwear and got a lovely one from bravissimo bit pricey though but she only bought 1 , sometimes I think 1 good garment is much better than lots of poorer fitting ones .
Most of my most expensive better quality clothes and shoes I’ve had for years and still drag out I have a favourite jacket I’ve worn for 20 years can’t bear to part with it , sorry rambling now !!
Just a thought what’s does everyone use for salad dressing I got confused tonight my son who is a bit of a healthy eating fanatic swears by rapeseed oil is it better for you than olive oil ?

Evening Twigglet, I spend less on food than ever! But I live alone and don’t eat anything as mucg as I did. I LOVE family gatherings. I don’t have kids, by choice but I love my nieces and nephews, mostly all very much adults now as I’m 4th in line of 5 kids. My aunt is coming to stay for a Month on the 10th May, stating with my sister and Niece who have spare rooms. This will be a great excuse for several get togethers.

Btw…. There is nothing wrong with Ginette, she’s out partying!! Lol

I agree re the clothes. My neices always say they recall me drumming into them to spend on key pieces and they will last and make cheaoer but well made pieces they put with them look more expensive. I have two lovely ones, low cut as I look better with a plunge neck, I don’t have a big bust but it takes the eyes away from my huge tummy and hips lol. Bravissimo I believe do big cup sizes but not big sizes. They stop at about a size 20 and it’s not a roomy one. My sister buys her bras from there. I’ve had stufff from Debenhams before. I did get a beautiful dress from Bon Marche and a swimsuit with a little skirt. I’ll bore you with the swimsuit pic on FB lol. I asked if they did the larger range in my local shop, the stock reply ‘you can get it on line’. I hate that reply, I have driven to your store to feel, touch, try on and then buy if it fits and I like it…. But anyway. I looked at the size 24 dress and thought…. Ha, no chance, but I loved it so aI picked it up anyway. I took in several swimsuits in 24 and 26. I slipped the dress on already thinking, what a shame, I love this colour. It was a Deep v-neck empire line, perfect shspe for my body. …. Pulled it down and stood stright…. And it FIT, by jolly it fit lol. Settled on one of the swimsuits in nice blues and greens. Although this isn’t a fantasticly made swinsuit for the price it will do to back up the two good ones I slready have from Evans. I may still buy the one from Simply Be which is Β£45. The two from last year were that price. I got a bargain too, dress was Β£32 but it was 20% off day. That makes me happy lol.

Had toast twice today (omg) but it’s low GI no sugar half the cals. 2 slices weigh 50g at 114 cals is fantastic. I had peanut butter and banana about 4. I was wondering why I was starving…. Cos I hadn’t eaten since the fruit salad at 10am lol. Just had scrambled egg and prawns on toast with…. Real butter, 3 tsps, measured lol.

I’ll be checking the Debs website.

I don’t know about the oil but know there is a lot of talk about it. If that’s what he likes and you have it, give it whirl and report back! My last salad dressing…. Lol…. Ermmm… 5 raspberries, 5 blackberries, a tablespoon of pomegranate seeds and a table spoon of good Balsamic vinegar. It was lovely but I also had those fruits in the salad with avocado, feta and a handful of unsalted cashews. I know, what a concoction, but it was lovely haha.

Congrates for your daughter, enjoy the fizz, I’m abstaining :'(

Twiglet: I recently heard that too. I went on a Italian cookery course (xmas gift) which was run by a woman who’s actually an ex Masterchef contestant. She said that since she switched to rapeseed oil her colesterol has halved. I’m just finishing off the end of my current oil (can’t even remember what it is) then I’ll be buying rapeseed oil instead. She did explain why but I can’t remember what it was!

Welshy xXx

Hi All

I am sorry that I haven’t been here all day. I had a busy one, I did read your posts but on a phone it is not as easy to reply plus the annoyance of having to log in on every thread. I even tick remember me and does it remember….not a chance!

I had my hair done earlier, a perm as I had gone back to that Ken Dodd look – really not attractive. I have a light perm for control only as I don’t want to get a Kevin Keegan look either. I straighten any curls out but it gives it nice body.

After that I went to see friends and from two or three hours there I called in to my Stepmothers for an hour before going to see my son.

The meal was very nice, a little different as he had forgotten some key ingredients like the tomatoes. He went to do the Parmesan wedges and it had gone off so just had the wedges.

Dessert was a Sainsuburys yoghurt, lemon curd flavour. I had to take a peek at the carbs as it was so sweet and 19.1 carbs (sugar) in 100gm. The youghurt was 150gms. I make that over 7 teaspoons of sugar. How shocking. He went to great trouble with it all, but we ate late and more that I am used to. Not a plateful by any means but I feel so full now I shall have to sleep on my back.

I would have left the dessert had I been at home but he was so pleased to have got it I didn’t have the heart. He said he would get one with less sugar next time and make the dinner a bit smaller.

I have to wait at least another hour before I even think about going to bed. That will teach me to eat too much. The chicken was nice and tasty as cooked with chorizo and no other added oil. The chorizo gives enough. He is gun to make it again with all the ingredients apart from peppers, I love them but he really doesn’t like them. So I will get to taste it.

Hi Twigglet

I love your curry recipe, I have copied it too. I can’t think about food right now, I almost feel I don’t need to eat anything tomorrow.

I had a really good night sleep last night and so woke up feeling refreshed. I never normally go to bed before midnight, but last night I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I never wake up early as the tablets I take make me sleep longer. 5am is a time when I am normally going to sleep on a bad night. Most nights it is about 3.

Hi Beldyboop

Yes I will try the therapy. I am a great believer in not knocking things until I have tried. I am open minded about things so it’s worth a go. I always give something three sessions to make up my mind. I think anything is worth that.

Counselling the first time I only tried once, it upset me so much I couldn’t go back. I was ok when I went in there but came out so upset and it remained with me for days. The next time was work related, works choice not mind. I gave it three times and found it didn’t help at all so stopped it. Counselling is great for some people but not me. If it works for you is what counts. Everyone has to find their own way of coping.

I also live alone and cook for about 4/5 days at once. I then use some that week and freeze the rest fit following weeks. This way I don’t mind putting a bit of time in as I then have my own ready meals and I know exactly what is in them. I just get them out the day I need them and cook the vegetables on the day to eat with them. Best of both worlds.

Hi Jaye

I told you I would be back…….

Fizzy

Don’t be hard on yourself. I also was one of those people, stick with 5:2 you will change we all have in someway or other. I really don’t feel the need to snack. Maybe I have a piece of fruit now and then, just not drawn to it. I must say FBD has helped me, although I think you need to wait until you have cracked 5:2 for a couple of weeks before attempting this. I did it and I was always drawn to sweet things. Now I don’t miss them.

You WILL get there take it from me. I know it may be hard to believe in the beginning. I used to make a sugar free jelly and have this with 1/2 youghurt if I fancied something sweet.

Jaye

I know what you mean about three fast days in a row, I really didn’t even want to eat yesterday just cups of tea would be enough, but I made myself. Maybe that was why I felt tired. I even cut my exercise short by 10 mins and no exercise today.

Yes you must buy less fruit. It is a shame to waste it.

Twigglet

Sale ad dressings: I do Dijon mustard and red wine vinegar with a little salt and pepper. I never have oil, but I too have heard about rapeseed oil. Not sure where from I will look later.

Hi Welshy

I will post the link to rapeseed oil when I find it.

Hopefully I have now caught up and not missed anybody out.

Jaye what youghurt to you get? I just want one to add to fruit. I have just bout a new lot of youghurts but must invest in some non slimming ones next.

I am thinking of making my own. I bought a yoghurt maker from a car boot sale for about Β£2 I have never used it this was a few years ago. I might give it a go if anybody has any recipes for yogurt making.

Well I’m now off onto the other threads. I am home tomorrow, so you can be assured of my attentions.

Ginette

Hi Ginette, you were missed!

How nice thank you. As you see now back in full flow…….just on my last thread.

Ginette x

Good morning

Glad to hear you had a good sleep Ginette thanks for the oil info I will read it later might be able to get some facts and thanks everyone for the salad dressing recipes will give them a go , I love fruit in salads love the sweet and savoury mix

Interesting info from a chef welshy I will check out ginettes link

Well done Jaye in getting in the purple dress love that colour, busy day today and tonight so best get off to work

Happy Friday everyone good luck anyone fasting have a great day

Hi everyone!

Been really snowed under and stressed at work!, but feeling light at the end of the tunnel, and enjoying the comments on this thread, so nice to have a support.

Have worked out that the headaches are probably hormonal :(, as doesn’t seem to make a difference if I’m hydrated, dehydrated, drink coffee or don’t, haha! welcome to peri-menopause. Did not have a great NFD as had migraine which continued to FD yesterday πŸ™ stress city at work…Anyway now the “storm” has passed am looking forward to 3 days off work, although have piles of marking to do..but will relax and enjoy as well πŸ™‚

Jaye was thinking of your words as I approached the biscuit tin at work, I did have one but made it a “proper” nice biscuit, so was worth it. Btw that Co Yo yoghurt is available at Waitrose and Infinity foods, do you have one? I’m suppose to go easy on the diary so it’s a great but pricey alternative. I do eat Greek yoghurt occasionally..loved your comments on the swimsuit, sounds awesome..

Ginette can’t believe the sugar content of that yoghurt, jeez, I’ve had that lemon curd flavour before…

Was a bit depressed yesterday after headache etc, and also spoke to woman at work who said the 5:2 didn’t work, bla, bla, bla…this morning much better, do feel less carb crazy, and not AS hungry. On the scales I’ve lost 7 Ibs, since April 7, but I think that may be a bit of water as well, let’s see, with all the PM goings on my weight goes up and down, but see I’ve lost weight around torso, boobs, and shoulder, weird, thighs and bum will be the last πŸ˜‰ have 1 1/2 stone to lose..have a wedding June 6 so that’s a mini goal..

Fizzylizzy, am also an emotional eater, and when I drink it’s worse, wine + any emotional worry= eating+terrible hangover, both physical and emotional. I now try not to be too hard on myself, but have knocked booze virtually on the head, because of the empty calories. I think this WOL might be slow, but totally worth it. Since I started giving the Zumba classes I have become more confident and also did start to think more about my weight, “wot! a fat Zumba instructor” that was in 2013, so hoping I will finally get there. I love any kind of Latin music, Salsa etc, so that keeps me happy and motivated, still got a long way to go πŸ˜‰

good luck with fasting everyone!

Hi Beldyboop

Yes Calories were 252 on a fast day that is 100 short of a meal for me.

I bet you won’t eat it again now hahaha.

Can I suggest a biscuit antidote. Join us on Facebook and load some of the messages or there. Or just stick Jayes name on the lid. That will make you think twice!

She is so right. You must either cut sweet treats right out or right down. I was successful at this (down) but led right back into too many over the Easter 2 weeks. The scales showed my punishment, only half a lb loss over two weeks. I decided to join Milena on the fast beach diet and cut them out. Week 1 a 3lb loss……my reward!!

Be careful as marking can also give you the munchies! What do you teach?

Ginette

LOL… my sisters would laugh… We all say the other is bossy, guess we all are lol, including me.

Beldy, just think about the booze and how you have brought that right down, 2/3 weeks ago you were still drinking regularly now as you say you have virtually knocked it on the head. That is absolutely fantastic!! How much do you miss the drinking, does the fall out from it make it worth not having it? I also like a drink but I only drink when I go out which tends to limit it as I generally drive other than Saturdays. I have managed to do it in a more controlled way and have it over dinner. When I get home I don’t head to the kitchen like I used too. It’s just a matter of changing habits. As my friend keeps telling me..

Nothing tastes as good a slim feels!

Sorry to hear about the headache Beldy, are you going to use any Hormone replacement therapy? My sister is 55, she took them, really I don’t think her husband or her would have survived without them lol. She’s a very busy lecturer and has a very busy life. She said that her brain and body couldn’t keep up without the meds. When she came off them she felt awful for a while but it has all settled back down now. We don’t have a waitrose or the other store. To be honest for the amount I eat, 2 tbsp on fruit I am happy to eat the cheap Greek stuff from Lidl. @ginette, I did tell you that is where I get it from? A huge tube for about Β£1, maybe Β£1.25. Hope you manage to get some time off to enjoy yourself this weekend. I think you need to take food with you for you FDS at work and maybe have some snacks if the Miso isn’t carrying you through until you get home. Biscuits on FDS have blown a fast out of the water. Sit as far away from the biscuit tin as possible for a few weeks. If you can just break the habit like you have with the wine then it just won’t bother you and you will have made another great habit and stopped a bad one. Ginette has ‘cracked’ her addiction to sugar lol. Good God! I keep saying bloody yogurt is a minefield when it comes to yogurt. I can’t believe those calories!!!

I will put some pics of me in swimsuits on the FB page for a laugh lol! No one seems to be on them though so I haven’t bothered posting the last couple of days. It will die down over the long weekend even more.

Well I can’t believe it is already 8pm the day has flown past and it’s time to eat. I am having the same, AGAIN lol although Chicken not lamb tonight. 150g chicken with a bit of onion in the wok. Nice thin strips just cooked for a couple of mins so they are nice and moist, a bit of salt and pepper and paprika and chilli flakes at the end and 2 tbsp of Elm lea single cream. Poured over 50g of Flavoured Cous Cous and topped off with 5og of green beans which leaves me cals for a fruit salad after πŸ™‚ Dinner in 5 mins, I love it lol.

Catch you all later… I am home tonight doing my nails. I would saying washing my hair but I have already done that lol.

Oh I am going to Ladies night at the races 29th May, need to loose a nice chunk of weight by then.

We are mostly doing very well…the scales are going in the right direction although slowly. Hang in there those that are struggling. Come and moan to us, don’t throw in the towel or hit the biscuit tin. And anyone that tells you this is a rubbish diet, tell them how much you have lost and ask how much have they lost on their diet. The answer will probably be nothing lol. And if they did it and didn’t lose, tell them they must have cheated then lol.

Laters πŸ˜‰

Yes I know you did somewhere but I am not even sure on which thread and to troll through all of the threads and all of your posts would take longer than just asking the question.

Ginette

There’s no need to, I just told you in that post ots from Lidl lol.

Mmm dinner was delicious. πŸ™‚

Checking if I can add pics here…

Ginette, you said in one of the threads you were going to have a lasagne when you go for your meal? It’s a great choice. I have checked this in many restaurants and the portion sizes are all pretty similar. Not found one over 800 cals so far. I had it at Beefeater last week, when aI had my first chips since i started. Lasagne was 750 or there abouts and the skinny fries 250. only has a small amount of pasta in it too. It does tend to have about 30% salt, but so long as you are good the rest of the day it will be fine.

I’m might have those lovely Singapore noodles today. πŸ™‚

Hi Jaye

That link didn’t work. One of the clues is it hasn’t changed colour after posting. I am not going out for lasagne I am just going to have a good for you lasagne from Asda with vegetables of course.

I need to go and find something for lunch soon as well. I really lost more than I would have liked this week as well. A strange dilemma…….. I don’t want saggy skin or to lose the wrong type of muscle. I would have rather lost 2/3lb this would be a good amount. I lost 5lb. I know that I am trying to lose weight but not too fast. I must up intake!!

Off to find lunch!!

Ginette

Thanks Ginette, Yes I do know it it didn’t work and should turn blue, thanks. Annoying though It should have, that code is what you use to post in places like this. Someone added a pic here, I should have asked how they did it.

Have you checked the labels on the good for you lasagne? I bet it would be better to have the full fat lasagne to avoid the sugar put in the low fat version? It would taste nicer too. It may be higher on calories (though not a huge amount to use on a meal) but more healthy. Ridiculous I know lol.

Just seen ‘Far from the maddening crowd’. Lots of eye candy lol, worth a watch even though we all know the outcome. I have been the movies twice in the last 7 days. Both times I had to sit through 4 coke adds prior to the movie! Do you think coke are linked with Ciniplex lol.

Hope everyone is well. I went shopping today, bought a lovely dress for Ladies Day at the races at the end of the month. Stopped at Yee Rah for lunch again and had the same food as last time Chiken satay starter and the Singapore noodles with beef. Delicious! I was only able to eat half the bowl of noodles today! Just having some baby bells for dinner lol. Add some more protien to today’s intake. Only had 1080 cals today. Tomorrow I’m going out for fillet steak though so will push the boat out a bit with a nice sauce. Yummm

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Hi Jaye

Must start checking for this. Sugars were 9.6 so just over 2 spoonfuls.

I am using low sodium now. Just to see if it makes any difference.

Yes I had 1130 today after what felt like a food filled day. So I am happy with that.

Enjoy your Sunday all.

Ginette

Hi all fat busting brits – just logged on to discover some more motivational bits and bobs as have had a rather calorific day today – two children off colour and have passed on to the flu type snuffles to me – great! – have been pretty much stuck in house with four men/boys who all wanted comfort food – sausages with beans on toast – lashings of Chinese stir fry (homemade)- I have succumbed to all fattening things today as well as a couple of large glasses of vino – am now in bed as know may well have taken another trip into the kitchen….lethal! With the bank holiday approaching can forsee more dodgy non-nutritional choices (nieces birthday party) so looking ahead to Tuesday when back at work and back on fasting wagon.

Hi Ginette,

Ideally you want no more than 5g suger per 100g of the food.

I’m with you, hard to eat enough cals when aI am home unless I eat to eat. I guess we could jusy eat more higher calorie food. Lol you get a lot of melon for not a lot of cals. I just ate some baby bels to knock up the cals and protien and I went out to lunch. Tomorrow I might have fries with my steak lol.

Keep up the good work but be careful not to let your cals drop too low daily, weight will shoot back on once the appitie returns, I’m watching mine.

Jaye πŸ™‚

Hi Jaye

Just been to look 2.4 per 100gms. I went onto Asda site and out of another 4 only 1 was lower at 1.9.

So I’m sure that’s ok.

But thanks for looking out for me.

Ginette

Hi all!

How’s everyone doing on this miserable day! chucking it down here!

Thanks as always for the great tips FBD girls, and everyone else. Have to mark this weekend was slightly dreading it, as will be stuck indoors, but am going to pop out at various intervals, to see a friend and yoga tonight, Sunday is a great night for this class, as it sets you up for the week, and she does a bit of meditation at the end.

Have mainly stuck to TDEE, except Friday went a bit nuts, as was a post fast day, had to get up at 5, so the day was a bit too long and temptations abounded, so went over TDEE. Jayegirl the wine is tough, knocking it on the head might be the best thing, I still have a glass at the w/e’s but like it less, not sure if it’s FD. Headaches are a pain, and I get them with or without the wine, lol. Think I get stressed easily, especially with my workload. I have to remember to be careful, 8 hrs beauty sleep, meditation and just chill and have fun…

Checked again and have lost 7 Ibs so am well chuffed, but NFD’s are still a struggle. I might change my FD’s to Mon/Wed as I work from home those days, and the original FD Tues/Fri are my manic work days, ;-0. I have seen subtle changes since doing this diet, not sure I’ll get to the stage of no breakfast, but let’s see I’ve done 8 FD’s so far, after 8 more, may not be reaching for the porridge.

I’ve ranted about this before, but the food manufacturers/distributors/advertisers have a helleva a lot to answer for. When I was in Sainsbury’s this morning, there’s a new shelf by the tills, so you can grab without thinking, full of junk, hobnobs, Twix’s, Haribo’s etc..also more annoying are the adverts of (usually) a very beautiful women sitting indulgently eating chocolate or the reverse something which is “fat-free” or whatever, often they surround the person with healthy food, like fruits etc, because the product they advertise isn’t healthy!

Ginette your idea of keeping a tally of calories on a post it is genius, it’s those little things you forget, I ate a Go ahead, crispy apple slice, 57 calories each slice, and still high in sugar, that’s 200 cals, I might have forgotten, and on a daily basis if this was forgotten, could add up, yikes!. I’ve obviously been kidding myself over the years about the amount i do eat and although I haven’t got masses to lose, it all adds up πŸ™ note to self, no snacks “on the run”….

Fizzylizzy getting back to the FD’s is great isn’t it, good luck with yours on Tues…

speak soon xx

Chucking it down here too!

You are doing brilliant @Beldy, keep up the good work, look how your efforts are paying off! Isn’t it all worth it when you stand on the scales, or try on something you love but couldn’t wear because it was too tight. I went shopping yesterday in Simply Be, the last dress I got from there was a 26, before that it was 28s for months. Yesterday I got a 24!!! I’ve a ton to lose and it doesn’t show massively to others. When you need to lose 9/10 stone (268lbs – 19st 2lb start weight and only 5.4 tall) even 38lbs lost still leaves you huge lol. But it’s coming off week after week.

I agree you should swap your fasting days. It’s easy for me my time is my own and no outside distractions. But when I worked and fasted a couple of years ago I only did them on an early shift 8/3. I had porridge for breakfast back then and an evening meal. I also drank lots of diet coke. I obviously hadn’t done much research back then. No more diet drinks for me! I did it once staying till 5, lol I couldn’t concentrate.

I’m totally with you on the food manufacturers, we have to be very savy shoppers, very aware and educated and able to make good decisions and choices by reading labels. The more packing, the more sugar, salt, fat, calories. Anything over 5g sugar to 100g of food… PUT IT BACK! You have to buy as much fresh food as possible. Snack on small amounts of things like unsalted nuts (almonds are great) a small pot of hummus with carrot sticks, banana with peanut butter, grapes or berries. It’s a matter of finding things you like. Buy those very small storages boxes and put your fave snack foods in them. You can use the same ones for the same snacks. Write on the lids in water proof pen the snack, weight, cals. Take healthy foods to work that you can eat between classes, walking around the building, in the kitchen/staff room. Get used to not looking at the biscuit tin/goodie area. I have been to the movies twice in the last week. That would normally mean a large diet coke and a bag of M&Ms, family bag, all for me (1100 cals! ). I was thinking as I read your post that I don’t even notice all the food, rows of them on either side as you stand in the queue for tickets. I don’t look at the ice cream counter as I walk to the loo or onto the theater. It’s just about making different choices. Forget ‘I can’t have that, or won’t have that’. Think ‘I will have this, this is my choice’ as you buy and eat healthy foods and snacks. You can have a bottle of wine, but you choose to have 1/2 glasses, right! The less you have the less you crave it. The more it becomes an enjoyable and occasional treat. That’s what’s great about fasting, once it all clicks in it all happens naturally and automatically. Ginette and I are two of the biggest women on here, we must have had some bad eating habits to get here! We have eaten our way to this size, but we have changed our habits and our eating 100%. Ginette couldn’t think about not having the option of a treat regularly. I couldn’t bear to think about a Saturday night without Prosecco. I wrote it here! I will feel deprived if I give up Prosecco. What I actually gave up this week was 4.6lbs of weight lol. Now Ginette doesn’t care about dessert, she’ll have it when she really wants it but it’s truly occasional. She gave treats and a massive 5lbs!! I have done two weekends without alcohol, Ginette two weeks without treats. It just gives you less cravings and a smaller, healthier body. And it doesn’t kill you not having all that sugar. But it sure as well kill you if ‘we’ all keep eating it.

I put everythinh I eat into My Fitness Pal, often after I have eaten it, it’s not just watching my cals. They naturally stay low as I only eat a healthy lunch and dinner. My only snack is a skinny cappuccino on NFDs. It’s also about seeing your habits change, seeing what you ate on that day and looking at why you did it. If it was stress what could you do other than eat to ease it. Often eating for stress causes more stress because now you feel guilty for it. Could a min or two of meditation stop it. Doing the ‘pause’ exercise… If a person asks can they borrow a large amount of money, your first response is ‘I’ll have to think about it’. You press the Pause button in your mind. Do this with food. Visulise the pause button. Think about it. Do I need and want it, will an apple help me. If the answer is yes, you are hungry so eat the apple and have some water. If it’s not…. Then you are eating for the wrong reason. Find a way to cope with that reason. Btw, I have plagiarized those ideas lol but they sound very useful.

Hi Beldyboop

You will get in control of this. It sometimes takes a bit longer than we hope it will. Like Jaye said I struggled with the idea of giving up treats. I have for two weeks. Jaye liked her wine to look forward to. We have another 4 weeks to go but I think it will change us. I think the fact that I could have a treat a few times a week helped me at first. I then cut it down to about three but it went up over Easter.

I really don’t even crave these things now. With the headaches you really need to drink more than usual as you are not getting as much from your food.

You are also not getting as much salt, that is a good thing but it takes time to adjust. Do you know there is even salt in yoghurts!! I am watching salt now due to high blood pressure which won’t come down. I am hoping I can get it lower. Youghurts was shocking for me though.

You have done well to lose 7lbs. Now you have done 8 fasts, maybe think about doing fast beach challenge if you want to change how easily you reach for snacks.

It certainly makes you aware. I lost 5lb last week on it and 3 lb the week before. Before 5:2 I always found it hard to lose weight. Not now though. I really surprised myself. I am quite happy to lose at a lower rate, but I had a couple of weeks where I only lost 1/2 lb one after the other. Was I reaching a plateau no just eating more treats, this was over Easter. The FBD soon put that back on track. I found it easy after the first week. It is only for 6 weeks in total.

Good luck and just give it a thought. I joined to support someone else and Jaye joined us. We have a few who joined us for a week.

Why not have a read of that thread and see what you think. I suffer with the heat so I thought if I could get some weight off before the summer it would help……what summer I hear you all saying, granted this weekend isn’t nice but it it will soon change.

Hi Jaye

I will post to you on another thread. Use me as your example whenever you like. It just reminds me of what I used to be like and how much I have changed.

Ginette.
