Just had mine, only a small bowl too! Amazing eh?
Well done, I’m doing Monday, but will see how the week pans out – still got my tax return to finish, so might be working through the night – why don’t I do it earlier – as I ask myself every single year!!! Hubby never rushes me – well, would you rush someone who was doing the job for you?
Planning a rather nice Sunday, foodwise, some nice bread and good olive oil to dip in it, I think!
It’s Ians birthday on Sunday, he is working Saturday night so we are going out on Monday for a meal. There is this lovely pub near us that does 2 for 1 deals on meals and they do burgers to die for….
I am thinking I can order the burger but give the onion rings to ian and leave the bread roll , if I don’t eat the rest of the day should be within my calories? The burger has beef burger and chicken fillet plus bacon and cheese in it….
I am going now cos I am making myself feel hungry hehe….
Will be back tomorrow have a great night all.
Audrey
Jean,
Not on fast day on Monday but the burger is massive with a big portion of fries….. I don’t want to go over 1000 on my meal and I do enjoy a glass of wine with my meal!
I don’t want to undo the good I have done these past couple of weeks. Goodness knows it’s taken me ling enough to get back into it…, hehe
Thanks for caring β€β€
Hi Celtic
I just fell over. Not too much damage bruised and cut face, luckily I was never a beauty…. Bruised knees, jarred arms and a grazed hand. So not too much damage. I hope it doesn’t make my knees worse long term. Aches and pains coming out now but give it a few days and most will be healed.
For me a pedometer is fine but I remember a discussion about Fitbits before and you can link with friends and see how they are doing and they can see how you are doing. Good for a bit of competition I’m sure.
Hi Audrey
I’m glad the soup was good. I had glorious butternut squash. That is just the name of it, it was anything but glorious to taste. It had mango and chutney in as well as ginger, garlic and leeks. A strange taste. I have snouty different soup as well a Mexican one I think. I got them as I use the containers for taking soup to Pams. I prefer my home made so far.
I’m sure you are looking forward to a normal day tomorrow. The meal sounds something nice to look forward to.
Milena
Enjoy Sunday. Food must taste really good now. I’m glad your hubby has saved you. You don’t want to undo the good work.
Ginette
Ginette, take care, hopefully the arnica will sort you out. I always get cross and embarrassed at self when I have falls. Had to smile re the glorious skinny butternut soup a few years ago I drove Stu made ( not a fan of smooth soup) by buying gallons of it … morrisons had it for 50 p and I bought a shed load. I’ve got a pedometer somewhere must dig it out. Sat in bed reading Fast Diet forum thinking I am sat next to a strange man….. Stuart has just shaved his beard off for the first time in about 12 years…. keep doing double takes. I think I’d freak if he shaved the ‘tache of as well. I’ve known him for getting on for 30 years and never seen him completely clean shaven. Years ago a friends husband decided to go from full on hipster style beard to clean shaven with no warning.. walked out the room bearded , walked back in free of face fuzz. His two daughter where about 18 months and 3 and a bit ; they both screamed, burst into tears and ran and hid. It took him a few hours to convince them he really was Daddy.
Hi Ginette, confession time. Just can’t rely on my men! After son got in from his shift , they dragged me out to MacDonalds – at 11.30pm. Had some of son’s chips, a small cup of skinny coffee – got the young lad to pour out most of the coffee to make it weak, so just half a cup, and shared a mcflurry with hubby, he had the plastic spoon, I used the wooden stirrer. Didn’t get anywhere near half.
So in spite on the scary calories on almost everything they sell, managed to come in at 450 calories for the day.
And as there is a ton of soup left, we only had one bowl each, I’ve decided to do another fast day tomorrow, or rather today.
Just bought a dress of eBay for the engagement party, so I’ll need to fit into it.
Wow I missed a lot last night….
Milena I will join you in another fast today, that will help with calories on Monday. ..
Ginette the soup sounds awful, I hope the next one is better.
CelticCrow my fitbit has a heartbeat detector in it, so it counts my footsteps, I can put it into exercise mode and it calculates how many calories I have burnt and how hard I worked for how long etc. It also monitors my sleep and links with my fitness pal do it transfers data onto that. It’s brilliant, honest.
Hope everybody is ok, have a great weekend, milena good luck for today, I am here with you, got soup and rhubarb out for evening meal….
Together we are stronger
Audrey
Hi All,
A good bright day here. I am now off my 20 painkillers a day! This last week I have been down to 10..last night first night without them…I hate taking any tablets so I think I am now clear…I have never felt pain like it with a hot water bottle stuck on my face…it took me back when I was small with the ear ache which I suffered a lot!
Audrey…you have sorted yourself out…..you must allow for the wine….I would…have a lovely evening with the birthday boy π· And πΊ Xx
Ginette…hope you have some improvement today and you are not too sore X
Milena……McDonald’s …after your b2b…what can we say……did you enjoy? ….It does sound as if you pulled it back a bit

A lazy day for us, pulling some holiday gear out a try on……just to get sorted a bit.
Jean

Hi Celtic
Yes strange to see someone without a beard when you have only seen them with it. Like a new man then.
Hi Milena
You have had a bit of what you want and not gone over so good yo both of those things.
Hi Audrey
Well you and Milena are really trying hard. I hope you both lose a lot. Enjoy Ian’s birthday, especially the good part. Well done on your loss so far. I have lost 3lbs in 2 weeks, I forgot to weigh last week. So another 5lbs to go to get back to what I was. It seems a long way back.
Hi Jean
There are a few of us Monday fasters here so you won’t miss out on company.
Hemmy nice that you get a break from walking Mr Pips. Weather looking warmer next 10 days for me are meant to be 10 – 12 degrees. What a nice change, a little rain though.
Have a lovely weekend all.
Ginette
Hi All
Keeptrying….well done on you 2 1/2 pound loss…you are doing really well.
We had a real feeding day yesterday really naughty, Indian meal, ponfriteroles, shared a bottle of red wine, and a small box of chocolate Florentines ….oh dear…yes we really enjoyed them. Lamb dinner tonight I may miss lunch…line drawn back on plan for tomorrow…..and Milena you only had a touch of ice cream …
We usually have a treat at weekend and a nice meal including a glass of wine but there’s treats and treats!!
Happy Birthday to Ian…have a good day.
Have a good Sunday all
Jean x
Morning all
Well to KT 2.5 lbs is brilliant.
I have been on scales after 2 fast days and a good day yesterday I can tell you I have put weight back on! No loss this week, I am hoping its food on transit, official weigh in tomorrow so will let you all know. I have however lost inches I know this because I no longer look like I am 9 months pregnant…..
Have a happy Sunday everyone thanks for birthday wishes jean will let him know when he gets up this afternoon, he worked last night…
Audrey
Hi Keeptrying
Well done on your loss. Enjoy it while it it working so well. If it slows down a little you are ready for it, a nice loss to start with us a great boost.
Hi Jean
The meal sounded lovely a real treat.
Hi Audrey
Poor you! It is nice to see a result on the scales as well. But who knows why. If you have been eating a lot maybe food in transit. As long as the inches are going down. Good luck for weigh in day.
Ginette
oh how lovely to come back in and find such encouragement, thank you.
Audrey, I agree, that often things are ‘in transit’ and need to shift before the weight loss is seen on the scales, and I think it is better to weigh just once a week, or that is the advice I have been given. (hard though, sometimes, not to take a peek)
that’s ok, I totally get you
I currently have to record everything I eat and drink, as am trying to combat binge eating disorder, but part of the deal is that we don’t weigh more than once a week, and also that we structure the day with set (ish) meal times and snacks.
Right now I could just kill a packet of chocolate digestives π
So, I ate a Satsuma,
but – if there were digestives in my house there wouldn’t be for long!!
Keep the faith Audrey! I’m a pound down, ok but after 4 fasts????
And pulled pork with caramalised onions, on ciabatta bread with coronation coleslaw and a few glasses of wine today – will put it back probably!
BUT – somehow or other we make it work, and the inches away prove it is.
We will do it all again next week – must say I feel full of energy even though I didn’t go to sleep until 5.30am and was up again at 11.30. I remember that, for much of last year, I felt like I was the duracell bunny. Good to feel that way again!
You are so much better than me – keeping to TDEE is obviously the way to go!
Thanks milena and KT
At least it shows we are human doesn’t it.
Ups and downs on our journeys but if we stick to it perhaps we will all get to our final destination….
I am off for a while now ian is due up soon and I have a birthday meal to prepare, spaghetti bolognese his favourite made with turkey mince to keep calories down. …sshh don’t tell him!
Audrey
Keep Trying, well done for being able to record everything. I’ve also been a life long binger. Keeping a food diary seems to be my achieves heel. I’ve tried as part of the weight management prog/seeing psychologist but I have always failed. For some reason it hits my self destruct button π . FD for us so covent garden haddock chowder for us with as many veg as I can cram in .
Happy Birthday to Ian
I understand, celticcrow,
and I am so scared, that even by coming here and putting things in writing, I will fail
I seem to have a contrary button
even today, I weigh, I’m pleased, I come here and post, and then I eat 4 biscuits without them hardly touching the sides and I wont SOOOOO much more
It is sometimes like a stupid switch flicks, all doing so well, then bang, it goes.
My mh team are working with me, and a few others, on a programme, but I have NOT told them that I am doing this diet, as I just cant deal with the hassle of ‘oh you shouldn’t be going without food etc etc’
oops it posted before I finished
…. my original aim was not to lose weight but to gain control, and that is what they are trying to help me with
however I have a lot of weight to lose and as one of the ‘women of a certain age’ group, it is only going to get harder
I am very very scared of failing (as I always do) because then I could binge my head off
Hi everyone I am new to this will be starting my diet tomorrow. I only eat chicken and eggs atm for protein I donβt eat any other meat or fish. Just wondering if anyone can suggest what I can or should eat on fast days and if wholewheat pasta and rice are OK? Please help trying to lose weight for wedding in April. I weight 9st10 I would like to get back to 8 and half st.someone is previous post said I shouldn’t eat nothing on fast days??? I’m confused
Hi KT
thing is – you will fail – again and again!!! How do I know this? Cos I constantly fail.
BUT – go back to Pareto’s law – 20% effort achieve 80% of your success, in anything. To my mind this means, within 5:2, for 20% of the time, just do it! Do it properly, and do it well. No excuses, not cheating – just put your head down and be bloody minded. That will leave 80% of 5:2 where you can do very well, quite well, ok, not bad, bad, awful – and a full packet of chocolate digestives in one sitting!!! A lot of failing in there, especially the choccie bikkies (obviously insert your own guilty pleasure). But in spite of the failures, and the biscuits, you will STILL SUCCEED!!! The 20% effort WILL achieve the 80% success, not just weight loss, but everything from farming to big business – virtually all business do 80% of their business with 20% of their clients! Thank just leaves 20% and that then becomes doable. Anyway, if you aim for a 50 lb loss and manage just the 40 lbs, would you consider that a failure?
So today you have your bickies and I have my coronation coleslaw – while Celtic is in the 20% effort mode stuffing her face with veggies. So looks like tomorrow is our day for the veggies and Celtic can relax sometime soon.!
Amazing eh? Pareto was a very clever man!
Keep Trying, 5:2 has given me that control. My weight loss has been slow but to be honest I think I’d rather do it slowly. I’ll be 48 in June and I’m only 5 ft 1 I’ve got another 4 or 5 stone to go I think. I think one thing that makes a difference is its only 24 hours at a time. This WOL for me doesn’t feel restrictive, so there’s less urge to fight or kick at the boundaries.
Yesterday we didn’t do much apart from snooze and read so our main meal was cheese and horseradish on toast, a fruit a veg smoothie and an apple. So far today just had coffee, later will be covent garden soup with tonnes of veg. My other big battle is getting fit and active. I want to, I need to, when I do it I love it so why do I self sabotage? ?
Little me , some people do go zero calories on a FD but most stick to Michael Moseleys recommendation of 500 for women and 600 for men. You need to look up your TDDE so you know what to aim for on non fast days. Personally I dont think I could cope with zero calories. . Just have a read of the how it works link at the top of the page. Welcome and good luck. You are in the right place.
Hi Little me, and welcome
only two rules: eat 500 calories or less (less being up to nothing, though make sure you drink lots of water) on two fast days and up to your TDEE on other days.
Some folk eat high protein low carb, no pasta and no rice – some eat MacDonalds on fast days (me, actually, and only a small share of the fries and ice cream occasionaly -not a good stategy, but a good demonstration that nothing is forbidden, no foods are out).
You can figure out your TDEE on the site.
At an average of just under a pound a week loss, though if you are fairly light to begin, the lost may be less, you would expect to lose about a stone by the end of April. Exercise doesn’t help much with weight loss, but I would imagine exercise will make a difference to the way you look, toned at 8st 10lb would look better than 8 and a half stone untoned. And you could do an extra fast day for the last month, as you will be well used to 5:2 after a couple of months. Eating nothing rather than 500 calories would give you an extra deficit of about 3 or 4 pounds over 3 months, but when you are fasting, sometimes 500 is MUCH more doable than nothing at all.
Good luck, you have given yourself a high, but realistic, target!
Little me
Just stick to your 500 kcals on fast days and your tdee on non fast days and you will do fine. Some people like myself do like to have a liquid only day but this is just personal preference. …
Milena has given you some good advice, welcome to the forum
Celtic we are all here for each other that is why this works. .. but you are welcome. ..
Audrey
Hi Celtic
how sweet, dunno why I am so good at giving advice, when I often don’t take my own advice and end up being the chief saboteur! But it works despite my best attempts to scupper things. Must say Audrey helps me to lessen my worst excesses by inviting me to do these two days fasts with her. Long may she continue!
Happy birthday to Ian, and to Makica – can’t remember if she is on this thread or not!
Help! I’m morphing into a sloth on mogadon! Pretty much spent 3/4 of the last two days asleep. Woke up at 15:15 today thinking it was about 10:30 drank the cold coffee that Stu had left for me at 06:30. I have just managed to to steam the hall floor down stairs, feed the dogs and make a smoothie (4 satsuma, orange, romaine lettuce, lime juice 2 tsp husk, 1 tsp pea protein, ground flax seed plus hawthorne tincture, a few almonds cashews and hazelnuts) .Might sound like a lot but it’s enough for two.
I think I’m hiding from the boxes we havent unpacked. Waiting for an inpatient appointment for Stu to have a haemorrhoidechtomy. It’s usually done as day procedure but given his medical history they think best to keep him in. The annoying thing is Stu’s been trying to get the piles sorted for the last 8 or 10 years…old GP refused to do anything .
Does any one else use a Samsung Tab 4 ? I like it’s size, but I’m finding it too bright and I hate the fact that you can’t edit the personal dictionary. Stu’s Google Nexus had better sound quality, a customisable personal dictionary and the ability to turn the brightness much lower. Screen size not as good .
I have to agree with celticcrow that the support here helps so much.
And also, so far anyway, I do find it a lot better doing two focussed days a week and being able to worry less over the others.
I have been trying to be ‘good’ the rest of the time, and have been doing ok, and I understand what you are saying Milena,
but even if the 20% produces the results, it wont completely work for my head
never mind
I am just being stupid
Not stupid, female!!!
As long as it works on your tummy and ass…….
Thing is, this is the place to be cos we are all REALLY good at sabotaging ourselves, so you are in good company, and being focused even part of the time means it works. Have you got much to lose?
Anyway your moniker is keep trying – thats all you need to do!
Celtic – Isn’t it in your display section in your settings? We used to have loads of phones here, now we all have HTCs – my tablet is a cheepo thing but all change brightness setting – though something, I think my phone, also has an automatic brightness and I couldn’t then change it manually. Managed to change it though.
