  • Hello
Just popping in to say hello to the new people on the thread too.
I love reading about everyone’s ups and downs and the happiness from friends and loved ones – reminds me what is important and although I’m determined to be slim and maintain it, it hasn’t got to takeover everything else.
Going out later for my favourite thing – afternoon tea with the girls and will enjoy it and fast again tomorrow.
    Stay warm and happy.

    Hi Jean

Thanks for the reply to the post.

On my 5:2 the days I will start with will be Thursdays and Sundays.
As I work offshore this should start OK.
When home on my time off I will be picking the days to fit in.

Will be working out a new training plan to suit.
If all goes to plan hoping to lose 10 kg.

    Cheers
    Rob

    Hi Rob……

Good luck to 10 kg off, it’s nice when you can work the days in to suit.

Measure yourself even if it’s your waist..hubby has lost 4″ in 2 months, really pleased but his trousers fall down! He has had is hole puncher out for more holes. Weigh once a week, measure once a month and write down.

I ( we hubby) both do Monday and Thursday …I try and keep to the days and avoid meeting up with people as they tend to stuff cakes down you! Or bought them in special! We both are after 2 or maybe 3 stone off…we are on our way.

We say we are busy with other plans….he he

    Hi Summer…

Nice to hear from you, have a good afternoon with your friends sounds lovely…afternoon tea…ummmm

    Take Care
    Jean x

well I have made some muffin sized frittatas to freeze and had 2 rashers of bacon left so had them with a piece of toast
I can honestly say I didn’t enjoy it
and am now cleansing my mouth with a Satsuma ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi all, Internet and phone sorted out now thank goodness. ..

Welcome Rob I am sure you will soon see a difference in your weight, 52 is such a good way to lose weight as it fits in with different life styles. I tend to do 6 2 or 5 3 because my husband works 4 on 4 off so it fits in with his work patterns.

Let us know how you are getting on and shout out if you need help or advice.

Almost forgot I have weighed in 1.5 lb loss this week!

    Have a good Sunday everyone

    Audrey

    Hi keeptrying,

What are frittatas? Like a quiche without pastry…do you warm them up or take to work cold?
    Sounds interesting….

    Jean x

exactly that symba – quiche without the pastry – although they are often made with sliced potato in them
I have never made baby ones before but they have turned out fine

they are nice cold or warm, although I doubt I will put the oven on just to warm one baby frittata (don’t have a microwave)

    xx

    Hi Audrey

You must feel lost with no Internet. Come back to us soon. I expect its due to the weather.

    Hi KeepTrying

    Well done on your loss.

Don’t worry I had nine stone to lose! Seems like an uphill task doesn’t it…. When I started cutting back I had nine stone to lose. I lost a stone between May 2014 and January last year, then I found 5:2. I have now lost four and a half stone in total, so half of the weight. This seem like an impossible task when I started and I set my targets at half a stone less each time. I like to have a reasonably small target to aim for I was hoping it would be Ian incentive and as you see they all add up. I was really hoping to make the five stone mark but after a stressful period at the end of last year where I went off the rails I managed the four and half. Still a nice achievement.

I am hoping you will see the same. Set targets at half a stone. I aimed to lose half a stone in two months last year and that works out at three stone a year. I know that it will take another couple of years to lose this weight but I am happy with that. My aim this year is to be a couple of stone lighter at the end. If it is only a stone and a half then I shall still be happy. It gets difficult patches along the way, for me I have had a couple of plateaus and these are hard. They are bound to happen though.

I tell you all this to encourage you on your journey. Use My Fitness Pal to log your weigh loss and check calorie count. It is also important not to go too mad on non fast days. I have never missed having two fast days a week but have had some non fast days where I am out of control. I have three fast days a week but you CANT eat all you want on non fast days. You can eat some of it. I am trying to get myself under control on these days but this isn’t as easy as it was at the beginning. I had every intention of being stricter on non fast days but haven’t yet managed that. January I find difficult hopefully by February I will buck my ideas up.

I can remember years ago I was quite successful when I was stricter in the week than at the weekend. I go to my step mothers home (Pam) four times a week and if I am having a fast day she doesn’t eat!! If she cooks normally it isn’t good, things like pie and chips. I have explained to her that I must lose the weight that I have put on at Christmas but it makes no difference. She is so thin that I worry about her losing more weight and so eat what she cooks. I love her dearly and I know that she means well.

    Hi Hemmy

I am still clear of snow, I don’t know if Pam has it though as she is on higher ground and 10 miles away. I am quite near the sea so seem to be protected from the worst of the weather.

You can get it on catch up. It has been on for two weeks are you watching the other one where they are trying out diffent diets including 5:2?

    Hi Jean

I’m glad that you seem back to your normal self now and that must be such a relief. Yes I have books on kindle. I started using them when I was travelling and had to share a room. This way it didn’t disturb the other person as I didn’t have to have a light on. I found them strange at first but then got into them. I downloaded some free ones from Amazon. I always look at tge amount of pages as they have some with less than a hundred pages, this is a short story! I used to listen to tge talking books when I worked for my father as the work I did was repetitive and it made the day go by. He also got into listening to them. We had a different one in both rooms as he worked in the room next door. What nice memories….

Those days they were cassette tapes. I wanted to start cleaning kitchen cupboards out and so this seemed ideal to have in the background as that is a boring job. I heard that a local library I belonged to had the online through an app and by putting my card number and pin in I could borrow them. So away I went. Then I ground that another library I belong to the Hampshire library do the same. Ideal!! I now get them from both. They are also brilliant for travelling with and I sone tines do a long four hour car journey and they are perfect for that as well.

The Hampshire library app is borrowbooks, any interested in doing the same thing ring your library and ask if they do this.

    Hi Rob

Welcome to the thread. Firstly I would get My fitness Pal app and log your food intake on fast days. You don’t need to do this everyday if you eat normally and don’t overdo foods. If this isn’t the case do this everyday. On there it has a section for goals. Set your ideal weight and what you want to lose every week. Mine was 1lb a week. I lost more as doing 5:2 gives you that extra boost.

Training wise I hear that HIT is a very successful method. This and combined exercercise where you build muscle as muscle burns fat. Look it up online look. Have a look at a program called fast exercise and this will show you HIT and the science behind it.

Where in England are you based and do you have a lot to lose?

In case you are not aware of this men lose weight more quickly than women so if you stay with 5:2 you should have great success. Good luck but what a day to start!! For me I still have a traditional Sunday.

You will find a lot of support here.

    Ginette

Audrey well done on your 1 1/2 pound loss…really good…and also back on line..๐Ÿ˜€ Don’t like missing people!

Ginette …it was funny when I started the Kindle I used to go to turn the proper page…must be a age thing…I am collecting the free books I think I am up to 40… I have read about 8 since Father Xmas came!

Keeptrying…might have a go at making the frittatas, if they are like quiches…and to freeze also.. nice idea..

    X

    Hello everybody
I hope you all had good weekends. It has been snowing about 3 inches here in Munich and this morning the sky is blue and it looks magical. A good distraction from wanting to eat lots today as I am fasting. I think I will wrap up warm and take the baby out for a long walk :).

I am going to try and go liquid until I put the babe to bed and then have some supper with my husband. Hope I can last that long!

Have a great Monday everybody and good luck to those doing FD’s too.

    Jdef

Good morning all hope all is well with you and yours.

Spring is around the corner and we all want to be getting those smaller knickers out. Lol We can do this.. Brit lovelies… in Audreys words ” Together we are stronger”

Its not who you think you are that holds you back but who you think your not. Xx

    Hi All,

    Cheers everybody for now

    Jean X.

    Hi Audrey

I must have missed it going over the page as I was bemused to see the posts before mine. Obviously I didn’t look! So well done on that one and a half pound loss.

It’s really cold here indoors, without hear it was 14.9 the lowest it has been is in the top 15s. So fire is on low and door is shut. I shall venture into other rooms when I have to. This is the time I wouldn’t mind central heating, but most of the year I am happy without it. It depends on which way the wind is blowing here.

    Hi Summer

    Nice to see you here.

    Hi Hemmy

Yes I’m fasting today lots of nice warm soup. I am trying out sone soup called glorious. It was on offer and I needed a couple of pots to store my own soup in and to transports some to Pam. These are ideal. 600gm pots. They are on offer in Asda for ยฃ1. Spring is a bit too far away for my liking. As this my first lot of cold weather….what a southerner I am!!

    Hi Rob

When you say you are offshore is that the North Sea? If so it must be freezing!! Do you have a gym where you are. I imagine so.

    Hi Jean and Keeptrying

I had a really good slimming world recipe like this. I used to make a pastry less quiche with cottage cheese and chives and eggs. This would have worked out low calorie and it would have been easy to take to work. I tend to have that in the sumner though.

I see a little bit of sun has popped out now. Sky’s are grey though.

    JD

I hope you like the snow. Some people do. I stay indoors with it where possible. It does look lovely though.

I’m just going to watch tge weather report. Have a good day.

    Ginette

    Hi all!

Just a quick pop in to say a big well done to all who have lost xx

Welcome to keep trying and Rob x sorry if I’ve missed any other new Brits. Such a lot of great support and advice on this forum.

Downside of losing weight is I’m absolutely f f f freezing! !! Good excuse to buy yet more clothes! !

Have a great eve all x I’m off for a beer!!

    Hi all

Audrey, ready to do fast days Thursday and Friday – liquid Thursday?

Didn’t do a fast today as had coq au vin to finish off – James Martin’s recipe – though went light on the double cream in the mash! eeeeek!

Roasted the bits of the chicken I didn’t use, stock on at the mo and soup tomorrow, so a fast day. Not found my fitbit charge yet – got a window cleaner thingy before christmas and its the same fitting, so I suppose I could try that – anyway, finally started walking again, about 5,000 steps, if my memory of the trip to the post office serves me well. Its a start anyway.

Karen, have a great time – put on my hiking boots today (imagine, me with hiking boots!) which I bought for a skiing holiday in chamonix – well, no need to imagine me skiing, cos I didn’t – must say I absolutely hated the holiday, bro in law paid for the whole family to go so I suppose I should be thankful – but hated almost every minute! A week of my life I will never get back!

But have a great time, sounds like its your thing! and have a great week, everyone else. See you Thursday Audrey!

    Hi milena

Thursday and Friday are fine with me….liquid Thursday 500 Friday is the way I am going. ….

Cu on Thursday . I have had a good day today, not quite a fast day but below 100 kcals….

    Audrey

Milena….love james Martins recipes…he is just so my way of cooking …enjoy

Audrey and Milena….are you family or met up from the forum?? Where do you live ish?

We both have had a good FD….although hubby struggles on salads in winter and I think he’s got his holiday head on….I have told him he’s fat and to stop moaning……๐Ÿ˜‚….lol

You are making me think to get my Fitbit found, and have a fiddle with the battery….

    Jean x

    Hi jean

Milena myself and ginette all met on here MONTHS AGO! They have both become very special to me… they have motivated me and kept me on the straight and narrow …..

I live in Cheshire, milena is in bonny Scotland and ginette is in Hampshire? So unfortunately not close enough for any of us to meet up.

I do enjoy doing my fast days with milena we keep each other going when things get tough. …and myself and ginette both have a wii do we can encourage each other that way, we went round the world virtually last year lol….

Get your fitbit out we can do steps together……๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†

    Audrey

It just seemed as if you was meeting up! ๐Ÿ˜… Just virtual…. still, it’s still very nice.

It’s an age thing to get wrong end of stick..forgive me.

Fitbit ……it’s very cold to go walking now …i’ll think about it……maybe when the weathers a bit warmer…my feet are not very good for walking although found a pair of shoes for hols with a heel hoping I frame better and my big toe likes them๐Ÿ˜‚

    Xx

    Hi Audrey

going up and down the country a lot this year so just might be able to meet for a coffee sometime – and I am still looking forward to your mum’s dinner if i get the chance, hope she is well!

Did you miss off a zero, cos if below a 100 cals counts as not quite a fast day, bugger, will give up! lol!!!

    You’re special to me too!!!

Hi Ginette, hope you are well, weather here is cold, but kinda normal for Scotland for this time of year – who am I kidding – normal for most months of the year in Scotland!!!

Glad you had a good FD Symba, another one down!

    Milena,

Yes I missed a zero off….. that’s me to a tee isn’t it? If you are ever in crewe give us a shout, or indeed anglesey in the caravan season…..would be great to meet up at long last to put a face to the name….mum is doing great thanks for asking, her leg is taking its time to heal though. ..

I am into year 2 soon, want to get down to healthy bmi this year, what are you aiming for?

Ginette hope you are keeping warm, I worry about you when the weather turns cold. I have got the wii out of hibernation so ready to go when you are!

    Aud

    Hi Brit friends x

Very cold one today. Yes, Ginette definitely soup weather. Hope your Fd is going well Xx

Sym I agree FDs do come around before we know it. Always feel so good and in control after.Xx

Karen .. oh how lovely Skiing …always wanted to do that. Went to Austria years ago with a girlfriend just did the walking and fell in love with the prettiness Oh have a fab time I will be thinking about those Beer Keller’s. Enjoy Karen. Xx

Ginette stay warm .. Hugs. xx

Everyone in our corner stay warm and cosy … lots of hugs. Xx

Sym just reread … oh poor hubby fancy telling him he is fat… bless him. He is trying Xx

tonight all I want is sweet foods
I have had 2 low fat rich tea (all I dare have in the house)

and tomorrow is a fast day and unlike the past 3, this one I am dreading

last week I really thought I could do this, now I have huge doubts
even though I have a picture my daughter took of me at Christmas which shows this smiling but very fat woman
she looks horrible and I don’t want to be her but I am

Hello keeptrying thank you so much for joining us on our journey. We have all been there and have photos taken by our loved ones. Lol

You are in the right place … stick with us for great support… dont give up we are all in your corner and will stay by your side.

Chin up Brit lovely we can all do this together. Keep us posted… if you want any support please just ask… we are all here for you. Xx

    thank you so much Hemmy

I think part of it is that I spoke to gp earlier about bloods taken last week
and he said they are all fine
he says my cholesterol is fine –
but it is above what nhs says is ok, so I don’t know why he said that
bizarrely it has gone down a little since nearly 5 yrs ago – and yet I am 2 stone heavier and have eaten PILES of cr*p during that time AND entered the world of menopause

and then I read all sorts on here about 5:2 not helping lower cholesterol
or it does, or it will take time to adjust

Maybe my mh is just not strong enough, I get so quickly overwhelmed by it all

KT dont be overwhelmed by it all.

This is for you… just a small step at a time will do it. Dont look at the big picture just a small square at a time.

Menopause is so awful for some. The need to be kind to yourself a must .. top of the list. Trust in the GP I am sure anything irregular he would have picked up on.

Do a little at a time … nice and easy .. no race or competition .. everyone for all here in our little corner of the world..
Stay with us KT honestly you will be thrilled at the results. Xx

    HI KT

Hemmy is right, be kind to yourself – we KNOW you don’t want to be that fat woman in the photo – cos none of us do – and we all have the photo! Like Audrey, I am a long timer – start year two in a few days (actually did three weeks of messing about and didn’t even do it right first, so technically already into year two!) I could write a book about all the mistakes I’ve made and all the crap I’ve eaten this year – BUT – I am over halfway to an 80 pound loss – was a lot further along the road until Christmas! (note to self, next year take 3 days off, not 3 weeks!)

There will be days that you just can’t face a fast day, so don’t beat yourself up, do it another day – actually there will be days you will REALLY look forward to a fast day – and there will be days where you ease through them. Weird eh?

Join Audrey and me later in the week, doing the two day fast – I have to admit I really have missed them. Ok, we are probably prize bores counting down the hours until bedtime but we usually get through them ok – not just ok but triumphant!

You can do it! We can do it!!!

A big cyber hug from me – see how you feel in the morning, I am doing one tomorrow and so will be there for company.

And PLEASE don’t think just cos I am aiming for three fasts this week I am any good at this – or I will have to regale you with my failures – and there have been many!!! My moments of brilliance are usually well overshadowed by my moments of falling flat on my bum!

    Travel hopefully ……..

Good morning friends hope all is well with you and yours.x

    A lovely post Milena Xx

Another FD done.. not too bad at all. It is harder though in this cold weather.

A good soup is probably the best thing to satisfy… Nothing like coming in to that lovely warm smell.

Trying to keep occupied is also good. Finding that thing to distract … when you suddenly think ” where has the time gone”.

Mine is reading a good book.

Hope everyone is keeping warm and cosy xx

Have a good mindful day Brit lovelies…

All of us have felt broken in some way at some time… but what really matters is how we get back up and put the pieces back TOGETHER. Xx

    Ginette,
just read your inspirational post! Amazing achievement to have lost 4.5st, you must feel so proud.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Audrey
Wonderful to lose 1.5lbs! I successfully managed to fast til dinner when my husband came home, so that was the first time I had gone for so long without anything.

    Jean
Your husband has done so well to lose all those cm. I would love to see my trousers full down. I think I might invest in a tape measure as it’s difficult to see my progress after 4 fasts…

Good luck to everybody fasting today.

    Jdef

    Morning all,

Some great posts last night let’s hope it helps KT. ..

Jdef give it some time, it took ages before anyone noticed my loss. …but it does happen honestly. ..

Hemmy a great rousing posts as usual, what did we do without you?

I have been on scales and for once I haven’t gained weight with Ian being home, success at last. …

Have a great day everybody today and remember together we are stronger

    Audrey

Fellow travellers, I would love your advice. I’ve been doing 5:2 since end of November. No interruptions even over Christmas. Over the past month I really noticed the weight loss slow right down. V disheartening. I have not given up but have moved to 4:3 in order to kick start the process again. It seems to be working. Do you find that this happens? Do you have to add another fast day or eat much less on non fast days? I am trying to lose a total of 20kg. So far I have lost 5 kg. But if I hadn’t made this adjustment to 3 days a week I reckon I wouldn’t have managed this loss.

Yes!! I used to weigh 92kg this time last year. I started riding my bike and being a little bit more careful with what I ate and I got down to 84 kg but then it wouldn’t budge. At the beginning of November I started the 5:2 diet and I got down to 78 kg quickly and now Ive been very slowly losing weight for the last month. Just under 77 kg. As you lose weight your TDEE also drops!! But its hard to adjust your eating habits on your non fast days. Ive never really bothered with calorie counting, too much of a chore. So up to now my 5:2 has been zero calories on my fast days. I suspect my eating habits haven’t changed on my non fast days. Ive been doing 4:3 every other week and its slowly getting my weight down. Shooting for a self imposed 74 kg, what I use to weigh in my early 20s.

BigBooty we are in the same territory then. Well done on what you have achieved so far. That’s terrific. I am 75.8kg. And it is slow slow slow.
Is there not a danger that if you eat nothing on your fast days that you slow your metabolism right down? And it conserves fat?

Yeah had my mid life crisis and said enough is enough. I’ll die a fit man. Ha ha ha. Im not sure that it does slow your metabolism down. But that’s just my gut feel (no pun intended). I cant back that up with any science. Will try and find some reliable info on the net. Im convinced that Im able to flip into ketosis more efficiently now as I don’t get headaches any more and I can do moderate exercise like ride my bike which I wasn’t able to do initially when I stared on my fast days. If your liver doesn’t need to get into ketosis mode I suppose it gets lazy at doing it.

    Hi All

My what busy bees you have been.

    Hi Karen

Have a lovely holiday. You have probably gone by now but may read this somewhere.

    Hi Jean

I haven’t eaten breakfast since I started 5:2. I never enjoyed this meal and only ever did if I was travelling on a ferry and wouldn’t eat until much later in the day.

    Hi Audrey

Much warmer today and no fire on. It was on low all day yesterday though. I have always found central heating too drying but I would have been happy with it yesterday. It is too much to get a new boiler and whole system put in. Maybe one day. I don’t normally feel the cold too much so my gas bills are about ยฃ200 a year nice and low.

Well done for not gaining weight, that is half of the battle. Yes we three seem to have been here a long time and I shall be here for the foreseeable future as I want to lose the weight steadily. Still a long way to go.

I am really starting to pick up motivation now. The break must have been good. It helps to see all of these diet programs and read articles in the paper. Do you know that just two dates will cause your blood sugar to spike as much as two punnets of strawberries.

I shall add a link to Michael Mosleys new article later. Interesting reading.

    Hi Milena

I am doing three a week as well. No liquid ones though. What a shame that your holiday wasn’t good. There must have been something about it that you enjoyed? The food?

    Keeptrying

Yes sweet foods get me as well. There is a program starting next week called something like the sugar farm on ITV I think. It is on for three weeks and a few well known people get together and stop eating sugar to wean the self off of it. Should be interesting. On the subject of cholesterol. I spoke to my doctor about mine which I thought was a little high. She wasn’t concerned though and said that it will come down as I lose more weight. I think she was so pleased with the weight I have lost that she knows that it will reduce in time, as long as I continue to lose weight.

    Hi Hemmy

I agree soup is lovely this weather, I have a butternut squash one on the go at the moment. Tomorrow it is Asdas green vegetable soup mix. I added a clove of garlic to this and a stock cube and then just put it in the soupmaker 21 minutes later soup done and even blended. Easy. It keeps me out of tge kitchen as well.

    Hi JD

Yes I am pleased with that and I’d like to continue the downwards trend this year. It helps people who have a lot to lose know it is possible. I took about twenty years + to put it on, so if it takes three to take it off then that’s not bad.

At 4lbs a month that is 48 in a year even at 2lbs a month that is 24lbs so not a lot to ask. Even with holidays and meals out this is very achievable. I am setting a half year target for myself of a stone. So something to aim for. I am also setting smaller targets along the way of half a stone. I find it takes me two or three weeks to get into routine of an eating plan. I have a meal out planned for the beginning of February. As I don’t drink and probably won’t have a dessert that won’t be too much and that will fit into a normal week.

    Hi London

Welcome to the forum. Sometime this just happens. Too soon for a plateau maybe but your scales aren’t the only way of telling. Take your measurements as sometimes when the scales don’t move the tape measure does. This can be very heartening.

Take account of things that you eat on a non fast day. Just be aware of how much you are eating and of mindless eating, eating things at random and without thougt. I know it’s a chore but I would always suggest two weeks of counting calories EVERY day. Here you may also learn how you put on the weight in the beginning. Also what you drink makes a difference, milky coffees, alcohol etc. you may be surprised or really shocked. I remember someone finding that hummus can be very high in calories. This way you will find out why it isn’t working and tailor your foods accordingly.

My fitmess pal is a great app for setting goals finding what calorie limit per day is and also counting calories.

Every once in a while I go back to it for two weeks myself, just to remind myself.

    Hi Bigbooty

Welcome to you as well. We are not really aiming at ketosis. Men lose far more quickly than women but my advice is as I gave to London. If you were an athlete you would think about what foods you are eating and know their calorie content. Why not someone who is trying to lose weight and become healthy? The aim is to lose weight and we can do that largely through diet but also through exercise. Both work for me. Once you have done the two weeks it will just open your eyes to foods that you had not even though about before.

I am off to post a link.

    Ginette

well I have got through most of today
had LOADS to drink, and so far 3 grapes, 1 Satsuma and a thin soup
I even resisted the birthday cake that people were having, but have brought home a thin slice which I shall have tomorrow

just the evening to get through now

    Evening All,

Out all day and what a lot of lovely positive posts I have missed. Everybody has done really well this last year…now pushing on this year.

I have been visiting daughter in Lowton… Cheshire? ….Audrey…..had a good day meal out… we are not eating much this evening.

London…my views on plateaus is have a blast of a meal, just one, enjoy….it kicks our plateau. Especially after your weigh in day. We have this week had a fish and chip restaurant meal, bread and butter etc…..hoping to kick husband into loosing this week we will see Friday! 4.3 just doesn’t work for us, we find it just too hard. Tried a couple of times.

Keeptrying…..you would feel better on a FD by having two small meals…don’t beat yourself up with having nothing…that’s not living…this is long haul do it the easy way….

Keep warm all and take care…..Hello to everybody to many posts to comment on lots been said today

    Jean x

    Thanks Ginette K
I will be more conscious. I’m not a drinker but I do snack without thinking sometimes. On my fasting days I am 100% disciplined. I eat only at 1700 and have the same thing!
I noticed this morning that my old suit that I hadn’t worn in over a year, is now loose. Previously it felt tight so you are right, it’s not just the scales.
I am going to do 3 fasting days for a little while because I need to maintain progress or I might lose heart.
However it is 7 weeks since I started and that’s a record in itself for keeping on any diet. I’d love to know how you all keep going and avoid slipping into bad habits?
bigbooty : the evening is young and I am sure you can like me resist the need to snack tonight ๐Ÿ™‚

Jean, I do have two small meals, as in soup for lunch and I have just had dinner (which I sadly didn’t really enjoy)

I have no wish to do zero calorie days!

Funny what you said about plateaus because that has also been my experience in the past – its almost like your body need a good feed up to get things shifting again. – glad I am not the only person who has found that ๐Ÿ™‚

off now to make drink number 6 or 7

Keeptrying ….I thought you said you was just drinking…picked it up wrong! Must admit I don’t enjoy my dinner either on FD but it has to be done. We can’t do soup as hubby likes 4 slices of bread! Cake sounds lovely for tomorrow๐Ÿ˜€

Milena…keep warm it’s very cold tonight where you are.

Hemmy….thanks for the replies to my blog…everything helps ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ginette….what a long messages you give…..we stayed in Hampshire when taking the ferry to France last year….really lovely area.

Bigbooty….good luck on your journey and welcome to our little band. Great to have got 15 kg off already if my maths is right…you are doing everything right ๐Ÿ™‚

Karen…hoping the holiday is going great…

ha ha, soup with bread and butter is SOOOO good
but I am happy with just the soup
and I generally eat gluten free bread (normal seems to bloat me even more)
its ok but nowhere near as nice as REAL bread, so quite easy to resist

I am SO glad I came on here, it is lovely to share this stuff and encouragement with others

    Jean,

Lowton cheshire not too far away from me I think….Glad you had a nice time.

Keep trying, sounds like you have made it through your fast day well done, if I struggle at night on fast days I have been known to steam clean or get the carpet cleaner out to distract me. Every one of us has there own way of doing 5 2 ….different meals different times sone don’t eat this some others something else, you will find your own way of doing it there us not a one size fits all but if you stick with it ….it works honest. ..

I too miss my bread with my soup ……mmmmmmm

Off to bed soon again congrats on your successful fast day

    Audrey

    Hi Friends. x

A big welcome to Bigbooty .. nice to have you join our growing band of Brits.

Everyone is always helpful here … lots of very good support… Ginette .. Audrey Milena all very knowledgeable. Stay with us BB. Xx

Well listening to the talk of FDs … I am different I think.. as I have my best days with carbs included. I know this is not favored in general but it works for me.

I have to have something I enjoy as it is for life basically. If not I would get bored.

If I have soup I also want bread. lol Anyway my succesful days are a little over 500 and it seems to work for me and I enjoy it.

No breakfast …. at about 2pm I have a cup of all milk coffee. 150 cals really satisfies me.

    4pm a cup of tea and 2 satsumas 50cals

    6/7pm 2 wholemeal slices of bread .. 150 cals … 1 egg .. 70 cals … 1 back rasher of bacon 125.

Just love this so easy and works for me on the 2 days. Sometimes I make chicken soup … instead of the sandwich… dont find it so enjoyable though. lol

As this is forever … I just do the 2 days … have tried 3 before Xmas but it is too much like a diet for me. Not in a rush though … baby steps. xx

I want to start this diet, but wonder if I can do a total fast (except water) on my fast days? We fast for Yom Kippur sundown to sundown, and which is a total fast and I can usually make it thru the day. Can we fast sundown to sundown? Will resumed eating a lite meal after dark ruin the benefits of the fast diet?

    Hi Victorious,

Welcome to our little corner. I don’t see why your fast won’t work if you can do it. On two separate days. I think the 500/600 calories are for the majority who can manage it better. I would think the health benefits your way would be better.

    Good luck
    Jean

    Hi victorious and shalom

    welcome!

a liquid only day is fine – zero calories is a full fast and beneficial. Your choice whether to turn it into a 500 calories at the end of the day.

Thats what is great about 5:2 – no rules and no restrictions, it has to fit in with your life as it is a way of life, not a diet.

You’ll already know, if you are having water only, make sure it is lots of water!

Hemmy, I too like my carbs – tried going carb free, I think I lasted a couple of days – of course the theory is correct, atkins proves that low carbs is the way to go – then again, bread is the one universal food and has been for millenia.

    And so much choice!!!

Audrey, managed a decent fast day today – even persuaded OH to forsake the bread with his soup, lovely chicken soup, and we went for a Costa this afternoon too – a VERY small skinny latte and about a third of a portion of the coffee – I have it on the side now as a more than half a shot sends me straight to the loo – only food I seem to have a problem with now I have no gall bladder. Is it wrong to consider having a double shot JUST so that I have to go??? Blummin’ amazing laxative!

    Just kidding!

    I think!

Keep trying – good on yer!!! Remember the mantra ‘I can have it tomorrow’!!!

London, when you work out how not to slip into bad habits, please share – I’ve been doing this for a year and slip lots – the secret is to get back on your feet and brush yourself down, I think. I also believe in Pareto’s law -20% effort gives us 80% success – so when you have slipped on your ass, get up and promise to do a week PROPERLY – no treats, no excuses, lots of determination. The other 80% is all about getting through the day, and forgiving yourself for being human – not a failure, just normal. Makes sense to me!!

Have a great day tomorrow – for tomorrow we can have it! (Unless its your fast day of course!) Me – I am going to be good! Niece’s engagement party in 3 weeks – its bad enough being the oldest person there – and I will be, engaged couple are teenagers and mother of the bride to be is thirteen years younger than me – all OH’s brothers and their women are younger than me – but I am not going to be the very fat oldie!!!! So I am on a mission to lose that 5 kilos I put on at Christmas!
