  • I think I get what you mean, thanks for the info =)

    tired and fed up

    hi all

well after 2 weeks of mega low carbs, I have felt worse and worse
its not worth it is it?

online advice was to up sodium, but I cant just cover all my food with salt

stomach has been upset for days
and even the weight didn’t budge

no idea what to do now

have eaten more last two days, more as in a bit more veg and some berries/cream for dessert instead of nothing

    all over the place
wondering if I should try fd again

read so much online/books, watch so much on youtube
all these experts saying so many things
my head is spinning, I am crying and I really don’t know what is right anymore

and so of course my head wants to turn to sugar

    KT,

Why don’t you try the 5.2 again, eating normally inbetween. You have done good so far on your diet but if you want a change give it a go.

    You can only try.

    X

    seriously considering it, symba
    really seriously
just scared the other problems will start again

will see how head feels tomorrow

    Hi Vi

I don’t like her hair, she has a lovely colour white hair, I really don’t know why she wanted it dyed.

Ah well….. I shall change it for her in a few days, her hair is fine so I don’t want to risk it before then.

    Hi Jean

Like you I would hate it, I stick to the same colour. It is a shade lighter than my natural colour which is mousey brown.

I see there may be more posts over the page so I might paste again.

    Hi KT

You have weeks when you lose a lot, more than expected, these weeks will just even out the balance you can’t expect to lose a lot every week. As long as you are losing over a month that is what counts. 4-7lbs in the expected loss, don’t lose heart as even it is only 2bks a month then that is nearly 2 stone a year, I’m sure you are losing more than that anyway.

I would think a dessert with berries should be fine, also vegetable are really good for you in many ways.

If you think you are having too little sodium try something like chicken noodle soup as an addition, low in calories but it might just help. If not a ryvita with a little marmite on it.

Low salt can be just as bad as too much, I know as I suffer from low salt, ask your doctor to test it if you are unsure.

    Jean

What time are you off tomorrow?

    Audrey

Happy birthday……I know you won’t read this until tomorrow xx

    Morning all

Have been very spoiled got lots of presents and cards…

Off our for the day, lunch out then quick nip back to sort dogs out and off out again tonight…

    Have a great day all.

    Audtey

    keeptrying

I’ve been trying to lose weight since I was 17 yrs. I’m now 61 yrs and have tried every diet going with some success but not in the long term. I first found out about the 5:2 from Micheal Moseleys tv program. I looked into the science of how it worked and decided it was my best option. I’ve now been doing the 5:2 for 6 months and I’ve lost nearly 3 stone. It was hard in the beginning but now I feel so much better. I still have lots more to lose but its doable. I haven’t changed my eating on NFD so eat carbs if I want them. I just try not to go mad and binge which is my problem. Cutting out carbs is depriving yourself and all it will do is ruin your efforts. It is hard in the beginning and you doubt it will work but as strange as it seams it does. Its fairly easy to follow and it works. So give it a try and don’t stress about how quick you lose weight. If you fail one fast day just start again the day after. Whats that saying, slowly slowly catchy monkey.

    Hi All,

Just getting ready for the off…really windy this morning.

Bad news for us yesterday Brother in law is in intensive care with a brain haemorrhage..Steve’s sister has told us to go on holiday but we will keep in touch, nothing can be done at the moment he has been put to sleep for 48 hours to help. We can go quickly if the need arises. Steve’s other sister is with her.

    Audrey..
Have a lovely birthday enjoy your lunch and dinner..

    Ginette..
Have a good week I will pop in when I can.

Well must dash speak next Saturday…expecting great results from you all on my return….my scales are packed..lol

    Jean x

    Morning all.
Wet and blustery here. Very rough in the night with the rain lashing against the windows. Lay awake listening to it all. Paul McKenna’s not doing it for me unfortunately. Have cut out all forms of caffeine but no difference so far.

Didn’t manage a second fast day last week but some gained weight has come off. FD today and I’m hoping to get back on track. Going away in Sept and wanted another stone off but that wont happen now. We will be flying and I have the dreaded seat belt not fitting fear. I am thinner but the anxiety it gives me is horrible.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

    Audrey

Happy Birthday, I hope you have a lovely time being spoilt.

Jean, worrying times. Hope brother in law makes a good recovery. Stuart has had two brain haemorrhages. Induced coma will give the brain some breathing soace and recovery time. This early on theres not a lot you can do. Thinking of you.

    Morning all,

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUDREY. X

Sorry not posted in a while been out of sorts for 2 weeks so no fast days done at all.

Big welcome to all the newbies I have been reading all the post it dose get easier I’ve lost 2st. 7lb in over a year slow and steady dose it.

    Lynda x

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AUDREY
hope you enjoy your day xx

caspersmum – I ‘hear’ what you are saying – and so well done on YOUR loss, by the way

    just two things
first the fd caused horrible reflux/throat issues for me, which even now recur and have taken several months to calm down – I don’t want that again

as regards giving up carbs – doing the really low – 20-30g thing, I think is too much for me and has also given me days of upset stomach
    but giving up the grains/pasta/potato/rice
    that isn’t depriving to me
occasionally its annoying when I want a certain meal, but mostly its fine
and I certainly think less carbs helps me with the bingeing battle

for now I have decided just to up the carbs a bit by adding back the veg and bringing the fat down a bit
funny my body could manage piles of fat in with sugar and wheat
but on its own – cheese/butter etc – it just cant
    weird

and of course you are all right about the rate of loss not really mattering, so long as it goes downwards

    Hi Audrey

It sounds as if you are having a lovely day. Enjoy it xx

    Hi Jean

So sorry to hear ablouth your brother in law. A worrying time for you, I hope the induced coma helps his recovery.

    Hi CMum

I listened to the sleep one last night, the stress one seems to work better for me, whether that is just what I am used to I’m not sure. It did take me a few days to get used to it and realise it was working.

I have been having bad vivid dreams for the past few weeks. I am going to look into getting one of my blood pressure tablets changed as they do have this effect.

    Hi Celtic

How are things with you both? Are you getting back on track?

    Hi Lynda

Sorry you haven’t been well for a couple of weeks, hope you are feeling more like your usual self now xx

    Hi KT

Just think how far you have come, you have had a fantastic weight loss so far, I did the same but then just plateaued. If it is this the way forward is to accept it was going to happen and just carry on maybe increasing carbs will help you. I sometimes have a little cheese sauce over my vegetables no so much fat in that but enough taste to satisfy me. Carbs always make me hungry so I keep them low.

We all need carbs as one of our food groups, just not refined carbs. I now usually gave just one slice of bread on NFDs with an egg and a 1/3 of a tin of evens on it, or egg and 2 slices of bacon on it. The bacon is a treat for me as I only have this once in a while.

This seems to work for me, as soon as I increase the carbs at lunch time I am looking for other things to eat. Also in the evening I may have a few potato wedges with my dinner on NFDs apart from Sunday) or at Pams we sonetimes have oven chips but this is about the limit. I love pasta and baked potatoes. Pasta I have once in about 18 months and baked potato about 3/4 times.

Pizza maybe three or four times. So I really do have these things as a treat. I gave a pizza in the freezer at the moment, I am trying to cut down the carbs at the moment so it will be there for another two or three weeks yet.

What is your average loss a month since you started, or tell me your overall loss and how long you have been doing it.

I hope you are feeling more positive today. Xx

hi ginette, am ok, managed a walk this morning and will try to do another this evening

have lost 39lb in 7 months so I guess that averages around 5.5lb a month

and I have to keep reminding myself that I never believed I would get here

would just like to have more energy

although my daughter saw me at the weekend – she hadn’t seen me since dad’s funeral, so I am 1.5 stone down since then
she said I looked really well and that she thought I seemed more alert etc

its great that others are pleased
but for the first time, perhaps ever, I really feel I am doing this for me

Hi all. home from camping – great break – but followed by a whole heap of work. So just now trying to get my head back into things. Weight gain hasn’t been as bad as it could have been…just a few pounds to re-lose – again! Part way through a FD. The hall carpet is shampooed, and i’m locked in the living room with the boy and a dragon movie until it’s a little less damp and then I’m going to make myself a vast pot of Skippers Soup from the recipe book. I figure if I really need to I can have 3 portions over the course of the rest of the day, do ribs for the boys (which I’m not tempted by), and then go and do marriage prep with a lovely couple…and hope to get to bedtime without too many temptations. How early am I allowed to go to bed?!

Just been trying to catch up on how you’ve all been – Jean, so worrying about your brother in law…try to enjoy your time away, though, as then you’ll be refreshed for when you may really be needed during the next stage.
    Mx

    Hey Everybody

Jean, I’m so sorry about your brother in law, hopefully your vacation will still be nice.

Wow you guys, you have all come so far already, I’m impressed!
Hope you all are doing well
    x

    Hi KT

That is a really good monthly loss, especially as you have been through some binge time as well.

You must feel pleased with that.

When I had lost a big chunk of weight I decided that l would be happy to lose 2/4lbs a month.

Losing that fast means that you would lose about 6 stone a year, I am happy with 1-3 stone a year any more I think would be too much.

I’m sure it took a long time to put it on. Mine was over 12 years so if it takes just three to lose most of it, I am happy.

    Hi Mino

Glad you are back, settle in then plan for the next weight loss period.

    Hi everybody

One meal down one more to go tonight then another tomorrow lunch…

    Think I am doing a 7 0 not a 5 2 this week…. LOL 😆.

Thanks for all your birthday wishes am having a great day… the babycham is cooling in the fridge ready for the brandy later….

    Back tomorrow

    Audrey

ginette – the weight from ‘ideal’ to over 12st went on quite gradually over years
    the next lot 12st to about 13st 11 – took 4 years
then when I was in psych hosp – I gained a further 1.5 stone in just 3 months
which they all said oh you will lose that when you leave
    but of course I didn’t

now I am almost back to what I was when I left work

you are right of course – if it takes time to put it on, it should take time to get it off
    I am an impatient animal!!

I still find it a novelty every morning to feel my ribs – lol

    Hi All..

Here safe and sound and all set up. Beautiful scenery, I am here on top on hill doing catchup and emails.

B -I -L has come around and talking.. But tests are being done.

I am gone half a day and everybody talking !!!! You are all very busy.

Take care I will pop in tomorrow

    Jean X

    Keeptrying.
I gained most of my weight during a miserable time. Emotional eating is my problem, especially when I’m angry. My eldest daughter gained 4 st while on medication for severe depression. The Dr said it wasn’t an issue but it was for her. She has never lost it. I still have lots to lose but when I lie down my stomach goes in quite a way. Its a great feeling. Unfortunately most of my weight is on my hips and that’s much harder to lose. Will keep plodding on.

    Audrey
    I hope you’ve had a good day.

    Jean
I hope your brother in law makes a full recovery. Must be a worrying time.

My daughters Great Dane Moby died during surgery today. He was 4 yrs old. Its been 10 days of tests and treatments amounting to £8000. Its all of her savings gone. I feel so sorry for her losing a much loved pet but its all the money she had to cover her maternity pay when she has her next baby. He was insured but only for £2000. OH wont help out because he thinks all vets are as he says Out to screw you. If you love an animal, what can you do.

FD completed so early to bed I think.

I always love my cup of tea (or two) in late afternoon with some sweets.
Now I am trying to lose weight with 5:2 and sweets are no-no on daily basics. I managed to reject my usual 2 tsp of sugar in tea, but drinking just tea is so depressing. What can I substitute for the biscuits? I tried nuts, but it is kind of heavy on my stomach. Any other ideas?

    Coldpizza.

I use rice cakes, 25 cals each. I find them very satisfying. There are flavoured ones as well.

You love drinking tea but tea without sugar and biscuits is depressing? I don’t think it was the tea that you were looking forward to in the afternoons. I think it was the sugar hit. Give yourself a month to detox from the sugar cravings, after that you wont miss it.

    re. tea and biscuits
I don’t always think finding a substitute is good, as it keeps us in the same frame of mind i.e. tea needs something with it
better to learn to drink for drinks sake – easier said than done, I know

also I make coconut flatbreads – they contain NO sugar, but they give me something bready/biscuit size, to chew on, and because they are made with coconut flour, it seems to fool head into thinking they are almost sweet!!

symba, really hope the best for your b-I-law

caspersmum – unfortunately a lot of psych meds do that to people,
I was lucky, one I was on for a time which causes weight gain, gave me so much indigestion that I didn’t eat much!!

I am finding – in menopause – its the stomach that wont budge
which is so annoying as I could go down another size in trousers, but I cant because of my stupid belly

needless to say face and chest are thinning well
although I get frustrated when people say ‘oh you have lost weight I can see it in your face’
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t care about my face
I want my body to shrink

    Morning all

Family all leaving us after lunch.. must admit I am looking forward to fasting again my poor tummy doesn’t know what to do with all this food. ..

Sorry need to dash off but have lots to do.

Back later love to you all

    Audrey

HI all – NFD but going to try and keep it relatively simple with left-overs. Want to make the most of a nearly successful FD yesterday. Busy juggling roles (wish they were cheese ones!) this week…am I a mummy, a minister, a grief counsellor or a typist?! A dogwalker, a chauffeur, a cleaner or a writer? Variety is great – but I’d love to get something completed and for it to stay done!
    Good days to you all.
    Mx

    keeptrying.

As Im a Coeliacs my bread, biscuit consumption is limited. As for the menopause, I to gained weight around my middle but since the 5:2 its dropped off dramatically. Its one of the benefits of this diet, it does target abdominal fat. I’ve certainly seen a difference.

    Audrey
I know what you mean. After Sunday dinner I’m always glad for the following FD.

Rainy here but I’m off shopping with my daughter baby and very cute 2yr old grandson.
    Have a good day all.

    Ginette

I forgot to say one of our favourite pubs has changed to a harvester. .. will need you to tell me all about them as i know that is where you tend to go when you go out. Hope you are ok you are very quiet. ..

    Audrey

    Hi KT

Don’t be impatient. We all have blips along the way. I am showing a gain of 3lbs this week after all of my eating, let’s hope I can see this lower next week. After so many weeks of being on this it was bound to happen and will happen again.

I feel very tense at the moment, mostly I imagine due to the constant bad nights and vivid dreams, I dreamt I was somewhere yesterday where there was a bomb going to go off and I awake panic stricken. Awful, I feel really tired today.

Regarding the stomach, it does go down, I have lost 4 inches off of mine, true it is one of the last things to go. It has taken a loss of 5 stone to see a 4 inch reduction on it. This allows me to be three sizes smaller as well. I have been doing this for over 18 months though. Patience is your friend in this.

    Hi Pizza

Try strawberries or some other fruit or if you still want the sweets get sugar free Tescos sell a good range and other shops do the Werthers. Three of these normally work out at 29 calories, don’t get carried away with them as too many can course you to run to the loo. I found rice cakes addiductive, especially the Alsi ones so I have stopped them. I will also sometimes have a ryvita and marmalade.

I agree with booty though I just found adjusting my void made me want less of these things. I still have my treats, but they are normally quite controlled, not over the last few days though, back on the wagon now I hope.

    Hi Jean

I hope the test results are good. Have a lovely break, shame you have the worry of what is happening at home.

    Hi Audrey

Enjoy your lunch and then join me to get the weight off…. I haven’t even had a birthday though. I had a headache last night so didn’t come on, followed by that awful dream last night so I needed to calm down when I woke up. Yes I love the Harvester signature fish and chips, I font seem to have anything else there now as I like this so much. I also use the Toby pubs as well as I love their large selection of vegetables. Also they are normally about 6.25 for a meal, if you join them online you will get offers on both and free desserts on your birthday. This is why I put two different birthdays as I don’t want both at the same time, mine are 5 months apart. 🙂 I use my Dads birthday for one.

    Mino

I hope that being busy keeps you away from the food and gets the weight shifting again.

    Hi CMum

Enjoy your shopping and your grandchildren.

    Hi All,

We have had a lovely day, rain late afternoon. Daughter and grandson visited us today which was lovely we had a BBQ.

Brother in law seems to have had a small stroke.. but he is fine and coming home at the weekend, hopefully. I think he is having more tests this week. All good news.

    Audrey and Ginette..
Hope you both work together to get back on track, and get the weight moving again.

Sorry hard to cover all posts as on phone.

    Out and about tomorrow.

    Jean x

Evening all. Quite chilly here this evening. Better weather forecast for us at the weekend.

    Jean
Glad your brother in law is on the mend.

Shopping went well, came home with 2 pairs of shoes. Daughter bought over £100 worth of Xbox 1 games from BHS closing down sale for £14. If anyone interested they should have a look at their local store.

    FD again tomorrow.

    Hi folks,
My first fast day today; the start of a long journey. I didn’t find it too difficult to be honest, and I consumed just 408 calories of my 600 allowance.
If anybody has happened to start their 5-2 experience today, I’d like to swap notes/experiences as this journey progresses?
Happy fasting to all ! …………… Paul.

    Hi Jean

Glad that the news is ok about your brother in law. I am sure they will work hard to prevent it happening again. A mini stroke is a warning so, one of the lucky ones.

My brother had the same, he recovered well from it.

Not too bad today as it was NFD. Hopefully Audrey and I can both get back on track. Maybe I shall get the Wii out tomorrow.

    Hi CMum

Hot weather is returning, they say it could reach 30 next week. You will find me sitting next to the freezer with the door open!!

    Shopping sounds like a bargain.

    Hi Paul

I have been going this for about a year and a half as have some others. Men tend to do well on this and lose more quickly. Whatever you have to lose it is really achievable, I have lost 4 stone on this and a stone before.

Good luck, it’s nice that you found your first day ok.

Another sleepless night, feeling jet lagged. Paul McKenna having no effect. Will have to try something else.
On the plus, OH is at golf so peaceful day.

Another fast day today. Have managed to lose the weight I put back on during my 2 weeks of binging. 1 1/2 lbs to my next stone number. I started this eating plan thinking I’ll give it ago, nothing to lose but now I’m nearly 3 st down and so glad I tried it.

    Paul

Welcome to our group. Hope it goes well for you.

Thank you both for your welcome.
It’s ironic really, and a bit of a contradiction in terms. They call them fast days, although in reality, they couldn’t go any slower !
I’ve decided to continue my fast today, therefore doing consecutive days.
    Have a nice day peeps….

    Morning all

Fast day today for me thank goodness… my poor tummy doesn’t know what has happened these last few days…

Welcome to our group Paul I am sure you will soon settle in. If you need help or advice just shout someone is usually around to advise.

Off shopping now rain forecast later today…

    Audrey

Hey Paul. Welcome, I’m relatively new too, just started a week ago on Monday, And I seem to be having the same issue as you, on FD”s time just doesn’t seem to want to speed up as much as on regular days. I just did 3 FD’s in a row, but in my experience when you have a regular day the next FD is very hard again.

@ Jean Happy to hear that your Brother in Law is doing better, but maybe this will have to mean some lifestyle changes for him as wel

@ Audrey Happy that your birtday was a nice one, it can be hard to get back on track sometimes. So good luck

@ Ginette I hope that you are doing a bit better as well

@ Cmum I’m glad you’re having an easier time, and that you spent some quality time with your family

@ KT, don’t make yourself too crazy, and remember how far you’ve come

My dad and I went swimming yesterday( I don” t know if you can call it swimming when I’m using floaties and I can’t even get one cm ahead) and people keep staring at me, like where did they set here loose from? It’s so conronting, and makes me less willing to go out at all. But the water was warm and nice, plus my legs are all sore? from moving them at all. Hope everyone is doing well
    x Vi

    hi vikathy
and too late, I’m afraid, I am already crazy!!!!

the swimming sounds nice, and stuff what people think, it is good for you and I am glad you enjoyed it

I have been contemplating going, but I don’t have anyone to go with and wont go alone, even though I am now a size where I think I could cope in public (just)
    maybe one day

    Hi KT,
Thanks, I’m really much too bothered about what other people think of me, but I have this massive wheelchair and I feel like I’m always in someone’s way.
In Holland you have these things called ‘tropical swimming pools’, and people often go there more to relax than to really do laps (rows?). I went to one of those yesterday, and you really do see people of all sizes there. Maybe you could go there?
I hope eating will become a positive experience for you once again.
If you need to talk, I’m always here, and so are the other people here

    x Vi

    Hi Everybody,

Just booking in… All well here having a lovely relaxing time. Eating a bit over but also getting my steps in.

Raining tomorrow all day so don’t know what we are doing.

FD for us tomorrow.. Non negotiable!!

Welcome Paul to our little corner.

I am sat half way up a 1 in 3 hill in a car park where I can only get a phone signal… I feel strange with no wi Fi and no forum..

We have a TV signal which is fine and a surprise…lol

I will catch you all when back on Saturday, will pop in when I can.

Hope you are all being good. 😇

    Jean X

    Hi Audrey

I hope we both lose any gained weight quickly. I had too many calories for a fast day bu it was under a 800 day. So I suppose this is just readjusting back to normal.

    H Vi

As KT says don’t worry about other people, nobody would look down on a disabled person trying to exercise, maybe their look was of curiosity and not being judgemental.

    Hi KT

My doctor says swimming is really good and tried to encourage me to go. I told her to ask me when I am 2 stone lighter.

    Hi Jean

Lovely that you can get a signal, glad you have TV as well. I can remember in France I used to find a McDonald’s and sit outside.

    Hi Ginette

Thanks, you’re probably right but I’ve been dealing with judgement/discrimination my whole life, so it’s easy for me to go there.

    @ Jean
Props to you for fasting on your vaca, I don’t know if I would have the willpower for that. Enjoy!

    Morning All,

A bit on the rainy side this morning… Walking around a small town called Pickering.

FD for us today and we will be hopping on the scales in the morning.

Just having a cup of tea in cafe.. Hubby ordering tea for two and err… I shouted fast day !!! Nothing else he said! 😇

Lots of weight lost by loads of you over time.. A really well done ….you have to be proud of yourselves.

Have a good FD everybody who’s day it is.. and a good day to everybody else.

    Stopped raining now

    Jean x

    Tea with what?
Thank you everybody for your input. It is mind tricking game. Yesterday I arrange on a plate a few thinly sliced strawberries, bananas and cucumbers for my tea, pretending that they are my biscuits. It was not bad at all. 🙂

Hey Coldpizza, I read some of your story in another topic, but I didn’t read it all, sorry. I was wondering how it’s going for you now, and if yo’d be willing to share how much you’ve lost. That sounds like an awesome idea for biscuits, though

I had a FD today. Relatively big breakfast with watermelon pieces 50 grams cottage cheese and instant miso soup. And for diner I had homemade tomato-soup with veggies. But I felt so hungry at around 2 that I had to have cucumber slices… man, i feel weak. Anyone else having trouble with the gap between their meals on FD’s?

    Hope you are doing well

    x Vi
