  • Hello everyone

Like most of us been up & down the scale many times. I am just approaching my 50th birthday. I have 3 auto immune conditions, from Hashimoto’s (underactive thyroid caused by last pregnancy), also coeliac (gluten free) and glucose intolerant, diabetes usually is the third member of the group to join Hashimoto’s & coeliac. Considering that I feel very well. I am trying to swim 5 times a week and do lots of walking as work from home as website designer so sat on my butt a fair bit.

There seems to have been a change of thought with Drs regarding Thyroxin and my dose was dropped from 225mg to 100mg last year and I put back on the 20lb I had lost such a pain in the butt. They have now put it back up to 150mg as far too low.

I have always done low carb high fat which suits me as I never eat processed food cook everything from scratch, the most time consuming being when I crave scampi and have to hand breadcrumb each piece individually. LOL

Although I usually eat a high fat diet I do have low cholesterol

Lately low carb does not seem to be working as well so I have moved over to the 5:2 diet.

I am on my first fast day so wish me luck; I plan to brush my teeth as soon as I have had my dinner so I will not be too tempted to eat.

I really could do with a diet buddy if anyone fancies. I have been using my fitness pal app. I have not counted calories for about 30 years so I was so shocked when I started weighing stuff especially butter.

I am aiming to loose about 28lbs.

Best of luck to you all

    Kathy

I am in my late 60’s have an under active thyroid am coeliac and also have M.E. which I contracted just over 7 years ago. It means that I have low tolerance to exercise though initially I had none and I craved something sweet and coffee. The weight just piled on as I had been very active previously. I managed to loose nearly a stone early in 2013 on this diet but then slipped back and put it all back on plus a little more. I have been on the 5:2 again for about 3 weeks now and have already lost 7lbs though not much this week only about 1 lb. I do get hungry still on my fast days but can live with it. I enjoy the recipes from the book and those here on line. Other than having a quieter social life than before I do maintain my home and a fairly largish garden. I am going to start some exercising soon but don’t want to make the same mistake as last year of doing too much and as a result of feeling wiped out hitting the coffee and chocolate. This time I am still having my 2 fast days but also cutting my daily intake of calories as well.
Thus far I have not had any chocolate in these last 3 weeks (haven’t wanted it) and my coffee intake has dropped from sometimes 5 a day to 1 on some days but other days none! A major achievement as far as I’m concerned though again my taste for it seems to be dwindling. If there is anyone out there who also has M.E. and on the 5:2 I would be interested to hear how you are getting along with it.

    Hi Marianne

I am getting on well 13lb in 5 week and finding it very easy even the Fasting days. I sometimes skip my metformin on fasting days on the morning as it seems it give me an upset tummy. Also on fasting days I have a late breakfast 10am and do not eat until dinner about 7pm. I do start to feel hungry about 4pm but try to keep busy. On the other days I try to keep to about 1600 cals not the 2200 tdee i do not h
Think I would loose much on that but stay the same. I also use my fitness pal app which you can record what you eat and it counts all the cals making it easy.

I did low carb for years and always got on well but I find this easier as I can have what I want including chocolate.

    Good luck

    Kathy
