  • I’m reading the Fast Diet book right now. And I suddenly remembered this thing that happened when I was at university – I woke up one day and I absolutely was not hungry. I skipped breakfast, went to classes, caught up with some people for lunch. I wasn’t hungry, so I didn’t get anything for myself.

I ate a single chip off a friend’s plate, and confirmed my body definitely did not want to eat right then. That was all I ate that day. The next day I also wasn’t hungry, and ate nothing (but I was drinking water). Until around 5pm, I was walking home and suddenly got hit with two days worth of hunger. I bought some hot chicken kebabs and ate them very slowly – best thing I’ve ever tasted.

But it got me wondering whether this was somehow my body saying “OK, we need to go on a fast” to fix some problem or other. Or maybe I was sick and a symptom was that my sense of hunger stopped working. So I just thought I’d ask if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

I’ve experienced the same thing. It didn’t last quite so long but I just had an aversion to food for about a day. It passed and everything seemed normal so it became nothing more than a fond memory. I wish it would happen more often!

That said, I don’t want to be alarmist but temporary loss of appetite is one of the symptoms of liver damage. If you were doing anything that might have damaged your liver, you may want to get checked out.

I’ve gone with extremely reduced calories for a period of time 4 – 6 weeks. Less than 800 calories a day. Often no solid food at all for several days at a time maybe a couple liters/quarts of water per day. This occurred twice over the course of a year and half or a bit more. This was totally not my choice and so I’d say involuntary

No food is easier to handle than a little food each day. I think not eating anything for 3 days then having 1800 calories would be better than 600 calories per day. No medical basis for this just my thinking and experience.
