  • K-Lo,

I had to look up Ceviche. Don’t know if I’d like that. In my world all sea food needs to be breaded and deep fried. I probably gained a pound just writing that.

    Cizzy2,

I weigh my tortilla chips when I have them once a week to make sure I’m not eating too many. 3 1/2 oz is all I’ll have, and my friends make fun of me for doing it!

    BaiEll,

Good to have you join the discussions. Wishing you great success with your fasting.

Hey K-Lo!! Hope you are enjoying sunny Mexico!! I agree the powered stuff is perfect in a pinch and did pick up some from a grocery store but have not made it yet 🙂 and if you are on vacation then you should pig out on ceviche!! Hehehe 🙂

Thank you Cali – I am 5″2 also but have about 60 more to lose (have lost a fair amount and kept it off but then have been at a “standstill” for about 8-9 months so hoping this will change things up for me). I’m hoping to get to the tea/water fast after about a month of this and I to start in the evening and currently go from say 9:00 pm tonight until 10 am Friday (after my exercise class) and during that time have 500 calories (give or take a few). According to this site 1/4 of my TDEE is like 600 but I’m trying to stay 500 or under and on my non-fast days trying to eat at my GOAL WEIGHT TDEE which is 2021 or less (based on moderate exercise choice – but I actually work out 60 mins every day of the week). I’m hoping if I start out thinking and planning this way the weight loss will be a steady downhill trend! 🙂

Love reading this thread every morning with my coffee 🙂

Have a great feed or fast day all!

K-Lo, Last time I was in Mexico I had ceviche every day! Delicious, cold, fresh tasting. And low cal, so go for it! I wish I could make it at home, have never tried.
rlw66, I too enjoy reading this with my coffee. So nice to be in the relatively the same time zone, loving this thread for folks on this side of the pond. Smart to already be eating your goal weight TDEE, since that’s where we will be going forward, I think I will do that as well. Didn’t even have my wine last night on a non-fast day, just would rather have those calories in food right now!
Second week, staying steady in my TDEE days, next fast day tomorrow. Still trying to remember the long view- and, that maintenance is crucial, so I am seeing this as a lifestyle change- some things have to change or my weight wil keep creeping up. So, back to exercising 6 days a week, ( after a two year rebellion, which followed a steady 12 yrs in the gym…am paying the price for the rebellion). And using My Net Diary to log everything and keep track. Slow and steady wins the race!

    Reporting in….
I did fast from 11am on yesterday after reaching my TDEE in record time. However, my husband brought home a bottle of French wine from a tasting at work and I decided not to let it go to waste. So with the exception of wine in the evening I was good.

Luckily it was an easy day – I thought for sure my cravings were going to be rough having had both sugar and carbs early in the day, but I think some days are just easier than others, no matter what you eat or don’t eat.

Since I do the ADF plan I am fasting again today. I was nervous yesterday about having to fast again today, but when the day starts and I realize that I can eat tomorrow it feels more doable.
    Happy fasting everyone –
Oh, and K-Lo – your ceviche sounds wonderful!

    K-lo
Recipe sounds great- thanks for posting. Now I’m craving cerviche! Love it in a soft taco. I posted wrong about my fast– all proud of my 32 hour fast– I obviously can’t add– it was 20 hours– still proud of that but I definitely needed to clarify that mistake!!
Hope everyone has a great day!

K-Lo – yes, thanks for recipe! NUM!!

Cali – 20 hours is still AWESOME!! YAY!

I feel like I overdid it a bit yesterday ( a non fast day) but one of those days where I don’t know that I really ate over my TDEE, but my choices were NOT good yesterday so I’m being very cautious (smart 🙂 ) with choices today and looking forward to a fast day tomorrow.

Looking for ideas as to what fruit to put on top of my Greek yougart to help “sweeten” it up without the added sugar. I’ve tried frozen blueberries and frozen cherry berry blend but those are “tart” also. Anyone try something or have a trick they want to share? Thanks!

Thanks, K-Lo, for the recipe. I may try it this weekend- but, um, not with the head on:)
rlw66, may be hard to find sweet strawberries right now, (ripened in some sunshine!) or sweet peaches, but I like those cut up into Greek yogurt. I also add chopped up almonds for crunch.. I will say, even if you were to stir in a teaspoon of honey, that would be way less sugar than commercial yogurts, and might help you transition. One tsp of sugar is, as you probably know, is 4 gms of sugar, so you could compare.
    MelindaShay and Cali, well done!
Oh, remember some of the sugar listed on yogurt is lactose, not added- so not easy to figure out. I will be glad when companies are compelled to include added sugars on labels!

Notfastenough – thank you ….I was thinking strawberries too …but I hadn’t thought of peaches …I’ll wait a bit on those. And a great idea about swirling in a titch of honey!! I’m going to give that a try maybe with the fruit and almonds nummy!! I too will be happy when the labels are consistent and include ALL the information that we need to know 🙂

Hi All, just completed my 4th fast day and it is definitely getting easier. The scale is being stubborn and the weight loss is just a trickle but with the 5:2 I don’t feel as defeated by it as I know it will come off eventually and I don’t feel the frustration of being on a constant diet and not seeing results. Which is where I would undermine my good work and cheat (I am the master of frustrated diet mood swings and have blown many diets recently in the heat of the moment). I definitely feel lighter like I’m tightening up so I’m focusing on that for now. I really like this approach to weight loss as I don’t feel deprived. I bought some marmalade for my morning toast tomorrow and will account for it in my TDEE (haven’t had marmalade in forever so I’m going to bed thinking about my treat to myself). What diet allows that kind of thinking?! This is definitely the right approach for me. Thanks for giving me the platform to talk about it too as I’ve bored my family about 5:2 and nobody wants to talk to me about it anymore. LOL! Going to bed to sleep off the hunger. TDEE day tomorrow woot woot!!!

Here is the proof, my friends, that without you my fasts are falling apart. Yesterday, supposed to be a fast day, but became a normal, slightly overeating day. 🙁
My excuse is that I did not have access to that truly inspirational forum, and did not have your support. Another reason, that I have to spend a lot of WAITING time in the area with food. My scale was looking very disappointed today, but I promised it to fast today. I hope to complete the fast today with all of your support.

I see that many of you doing so well this week. Your great example means so much!

    So who is fasting today?

Morning all!! Shazzer you are funny! I hear ya though ….this new way of life definitely seems doable long term 🙂 I over did it yesterday with some ice cream from cold stone …..grrrrrrr!!!!

Anyway, Coldpizza I’m with YOU — today is my fasting day! Sitting here with my cinnamon iced coffee and reading through the threads for inspiration, motivation and support!

We will feel a great sense of accomplishment tonight when we go to bed with our stomachs grumbling, but as Shazzer pointed out our stomachs will be tightening and that is an AWESOME feeling!

    We got this!!!

Hello fellow fasters. I agree this is a supportive, inspiring group. Hope the day goes well for everyone.

Today’s a fast day for me too. Just loading up on green tea all day and will probably have a couple glasses of 0 calorie water enhancers on ice tonight. Stay strong on your fast day.

    Bronx

Anyone fond fatigue a bigger issue than extreme hunger on fast days?

Princess C – I notice it in the mornings …..but by late afternoon I get a burst of energy and feel great and that generally lasts well into the evening and in fact have difficulty going to bed and sleeping for long periods of time (don’t sleep well generally — but even worse on fasting days). Hoping this settles down a bit over the next 30 days. Seems like the reading I’m doing says it takes about 30 days for your body to “adjust” to the new way of eating/life. 🙂

    Princess,
I actually found that I feel more tired and sleepy on eating days, but feel energized on fast days. Paradox?

I forget that the body needs time to adjust to this new routine.

Princess C- some fasting days I have energy galore and some I’m really tired but almost always I have to go to bed way earlier on fasting days b/c I’m pooped by the end of the day– i prefer to eat one meal in the late afternoon b/c that seems to help my weight loss but maybe splitting your food so you have some for your lowest energy part of the day may help. Do you sleep well? Mine really varies- had insomnia last night– doesn’t help that my HB was in a chatty mood until midnight!! Good lord- I have to get up at 5:30!! Gotta love those late night chatty men though!!– good luck!

Rlw66 – cinnamon iced coffee? Ok that sounds awesome. Do you have the recipe? Could you share? I drink more coffee and tea on fast days so a little flavor and temp variety sounds great.

As for insomnia I suffer from it not sure if it’s triggered by fasting, age or my husband snoring though LOL!

The other thing that improves on fast days is how much water i drink. I really feel better when I’m drinking more but I have to make a conscious decision to do it or I slip back into my non water drinking habits. I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to drink water but I know a lot of my weight gain is triggered by it.

Have a great day everyone. Especially those fasting, knock it out of the park!

Good Morning everyone, I have been MIA since last week b/c I had a friend surprise me with a visit (she’s still here) from out of town. We’re going to the mountains today until next Tuesday or Wednesday. Dieting has gone completely out of my mind, much to my regret! I’ve gained back the 4# I had lost 🙁 But there it is. I am planning on coming back to a fast on the day I get home and start over, and in the meantime, I am desperately trying to stay within my calorie allotment. I haven’t even had time to get caught up on all your posts, but I just signed up for email alert when one of you posts so I can at least keep you all in the front of my mind and try not to lose too much focus.
Wishing you all gobs of luck and lost pounds! I’ll be back next week asap.
    Crowmama

    Good Morning!

Great to see everyone’s posts this morning. Great way to start the day.

I am eating today and find these days very challenging – more so than fasting days simply because there’s so much choice involved. I was tempted to continue treating myself with blueberry scones this morning but decided that I’d like to eat throughout the day today (I can eat my TDEE in scones surprisingly quickly) so I chose a high fat low carb breakfast instead. Delicious, satisfying….but not deliriously out of this world – sounds like a normal day I guess.

ColdPizza – glad to see you posting today – let’s get the work of getting these pounds off so we can get to maintenance and not have to work quite so hard – plus we’ll be where we want to be, what could be better than that? Hope your fast today is an “easy day”.

Cheers to everyone – have a great one!

Today is my fast day as well. I am off work today so I have plans to stay busy. I am going to try and save all my calories for this evening as my husband comes back into town and will want to go out to eat. I have to start looking for places with low calorie options for my Thursdays. Any suggestions?

Finished my first cup of Zen green tea. Time to get this day started! . This is my 4th fast day! I am still down 5 lbs since starting last week. This is amazing considering I gave in to some major snack attacks on feeding days. I really need to clear out my kitchen. I am not sure if it’s best to do that on feast or fast day. I seem to have more control on a fast day so maybe I will add to to my list of things to do today.

Wishing everyone a successful fast or feed day!!

Hi cizzy2- I like Chipotle as a low cal option- if you go online ahead of time you can build your own meal and check the calories before you actually go in and order it. Tasty, filling and healthy! Good luck!

    rlw66,
Trying to catch up with all missed posts…
Try mango with your yogurt. I love to eat mango fresh or frozen to calm down my cravings for sweetness.

    Melinda,

Saying no to a (or many) blueberry scones??!! It must involve some magical powers for sure!
I also find it so hard to not overeat during non-fast day. I never counted calories, so I don’t even know how my TDEE look in food. I can count calories only if I buy frozen food with labels, but have no idea how to count if the food is home made. 🙁

    CaliBikini,
Thank you for great suggestion. I love Chipotle, but I did not know that I could actually count my calories.

CaliBikini, Some post fast nights I wake up too early. Last fast I had some yogurt before bed and that seemed to help me sleep through the night. Going to save calories on today’s fast to repeat the yogurt before bed snack. I wait til after 12 to have any calories on my fast day. Seems to make gettong through the day easier.

Jumped on scale this morning. Down 4lbs woot woot! It’s taken me 2 weeks to see the scale move (first week and 1/2 only down a pound). So thrilled. I am usually so quick to give up and I didn’t this time and boom weight loss. Keep at it folks especially if your like me and weight loss is stubborn! So excited!

Hi fellow fasters, I am fasting today too. 4th day, second week.
Congrats Shazzer! I am like you, quick to give up usually, but hanging in there, and down 4 lbs as well! Happy as a clam-no clams today though:)
rlw66, love your idea of cinnamon coffee, will try some! I was going to give up coffee, but there is only so much change I can handle at one time. Giving up wine for a while is enough of a change-after giving it up on FD’s, I find I don’t want the empty calories as much on non-fast days. Gives me more food!
MelindaShay, I agree this is tougher when there is too much choice involved. I don’t have a sweet tooth, but salty crunchy stuff calls out my name. Bronx, your will power to eat just 3 oz of chips is amazing- if I have one, there goes my will power. So I am trying to start my diet at the grocery store, and not bringing things into the house that I can’t control. Trying to get my husband to not buy tortilla chips is more difficult:(
Have to stop talking about food, making me too hungry!
    Good luck today!

Congrats Shazzer and notfastenough! Great loss! 😀

Hey all — thank you for the mango suggestion Coldpizza … I LOVE mango too! Have never done the frozen though — I will check that out. I’m happy fruit will soon be in season here.

I’m keeping busy today as my hunger keeps at my head! My motivation is my weigh in days are Friday mornings so I repeat that mantra over and over. For whatever reason I seem to be having a hard time today — sipping on iced green tea and have only had about 200 calories so far today. Want to stay well below 500 if I can.

Shazzer – the cinnamon iced coffee is super easy. I love STRONG coffee so I use the strongest beans I can find and I have a fancy coffee pot that lets me brew on a setting called “specialty brew” — just means it comes out a little stronger knowing that you will be adding stuff to it (like for lattes), however, the only thing I add is 2 tablespoons of half-n-half. So literally, I grind up the beans and add them and 1/8 to 1/4 tsp of organic Saigon cinnamon to the ground beans. Brew the coffee over ice and add my cream and I’m good to go! The cinnamon flavor adds just enough to make me go “NUM” and not need any sweetener at all!!

I’m hoping when I hit the scale tomorrow my weight will have stayed down from last week as well 🙂

I do think it’s hard too when we have others in the house (kid, husband) that don’t need to watch what they eat necessarily …..and I’m with you notfastenough if I start eating chips, there is no way 3 oz would satisfy me …no matter how slow I ate them 🙂 that is awesome Bronx!

Hope everyone is enjoying the afternoon and staying strong! 🙂

Hope everyone is having a good, successful day. It’s mid afternoon and I have yet to eat. Saving it up for dinner.
Calibikini: Thanks for the chipotle idea. I went to the site and built my burrito bowl to check the calories. I found some good options. It made me sooooo hungry I had to quit looking at it. Too bad the patron margarita came in at 230 calories. I agree with notfastenough, I would rather eat my calories than drink them.

Time to get busy again. It’s nearly dinner time for some, and for others it will be here soon,,,we can do this.

Amazon free kindle book today Intermittent Fasting cook book by Lindsey parsons

Cizzy 2– so glad the chipotle idea works for you. I like to use it especially when I travel. Makes me not such a bummer of company to be with 🙂 you get quite a bit of food for the calorie allotment if you build it carefully.
I haven’t been sleeping so well the past few nights. Maybe too much caffeine during the day? Not sure but it’s making me a little bit grumpy these days. Princess– hope you’re doing better than me in the sleep department. Time for a nap!

Congrats on the weight-loss that’s happening on this thread lately! That’s awesome! Also love the tips that have been posted. The cinnamon coffee one made me drool!!

Cook book I mentioned doesn’t have calorie breakdown but the recipes look good for feed days

    Hello All,
I am so ready to make a change! I am encouraged by all of your previous posts and feel that this might be just the lifestyle change that I need! I want to read the book over the weekend and start my first fast on Monday. I need to take all my measurements, as well. I was thinking of protein shakes instead of food on those fast days. Anyone have any success with that? Looking forward to sharing this journey!
    Thank you!

    Hi kn and welcome:

    Here are some tips: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

It really works if you do it right.

    Good Luck!

    Hi KND,

Personally Id go for foods with lots of bulk and low in calorific content. They will keep you satiated for longer. A big bowl of salad and throw in your favourite veggies (raw). It works for me, give it a go and if you don’t like it go for the protein shake. I’ll have a big bowl with chopped up cucumber, mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, some capsicum, iceberg lettuce, some cubed up cheese and tofu. Sometimes I’ll add a small can of tuna or a few pieces of chicken. Add a little bit of apple cider vinegar and a chili if you like it hot.

Avoide anything with sugar in it like the plague. It works, I lost 44 pounds in 12 months and am now in maintenance mode doing a water fast 6:1.

Good luck, it works if youre genuine about it.

Welcome KND- glad you found us!! This a great support and in the early days fasting can really make your tummy grumble – it definitely gets better with time. I eat the same thing every fast day (I know….. Boring!!) but I just love it!! I eat a bean cheese and rice burrito over a very large plate of lettuce with salsa on it. I typically eat 1 meal in the mid afternoon. Everyone is different and you will find what works for you. Good luck!!

    Morning all — welcome KND!

Princess C – thanks for the free cook book on Kindle 🙂

As I sit here this morning drinking my iced coffee (having finished a 32 hour fast) I’m a little disappointed that the scale didn’t go down this week. In fact it went up by only by .2 (2 tenths). I know I didn’t drink enough water yesterday at all. But I journal everything I eat and I exercise an hour every day so I’m bummed. However, this is only my second week so I’m trying to remain positive. I do like the way I feel on fast days so I’m trying to focus on that and realize that not every week will be a “loss” week but my body already does a good job at maintaining this weight no matter what I do! I don’t want to MAINTAIN at this weight 🙁

I’m going to focus on the fact that this is for the long term and as long as the scale doesn’t climb up it’s better than nothing …..because nothing is what was happening for the past 8-9 months! 🙂

I don’t fast again until Sunday night. Will be staying under my TDEE for the next 3 days and getting enough water in.

Hope everyone has a great day — whether it be fast or feed!!

Hello. Unless you are training for marathon, iron man, etc… exercising an hour a day may not be a good idea. You aren’t giving your body time to repair itself. It’s the repair process where you see actual gains afterwards. If you are fasting and exercising an hour every day you are probably putting your body through more stress than it can handle. As a test, you could pull back to 3 days per week for 30-40 minutes (or less) of exercise and see how that affects the scale after about two weeks.

Hello rlw66, do not be discouraged! weight loss does not always immediately after the fasting days ago made 2 jejeuns and the scales showed no difference in days after days of not fasting scale down the weight.

    Brazilian hugs!

It such a lovely morning here in Texas!
I were not able to keep my fast yesterday, but I ate somewhere between 500 -800 calories, which is way more than fast day, but much less than TDEE. Surprisingly, my scale was kind today, which put me in great mood!
I am fasting today, still trying to complete my second fast of the week. I don’t know why, but some weeks are so easy to fast, and some are a constant struggle.

    rlw66,
GRR, those scales sometimes act without any logic. You have a good plan to stay under TDEE, I am sure, that the scale eventually agree with your effort. I think our bodies also have some kind of algorithm of their own that also could influence our weight. Please stay positive and everything will work out. 🙂

    Happy Friday (fasting or not)!

Thanks all for the support and encouragement, and the Brazalian hugs!!! As to the working out, I’ve been doing this (1 hour a day) for over a two years so it’s not something new. I take a combination of cardio/dance/strength training so it’s not like I’m just trying to build muscle. I might miss a day here or there but otherwise, it’s part of my routine so not sure I can, or want, to give that up. I never used to exercise at all.

And I do know, from countless other attempts to lose weight, that not every week will be a “lose” week. I’m also looking at this as a new way of life so it’s not something I’m giving up on — it’s just hard to stay positive in moments (and that is all this is …a moment in time) when you feel like you’ve worked hard. But I’ll just keep on keeping on. 🙂

    rlw66,

For the last 10 years I gain approximately 4-5 lb per year. So NOT gaining a weight is definitely a good change for me, and loosing – is cherry on the top!
Stay strong and positive. You are rock if you can exercise every day for an hour. It shows something about your character and inner strength. Hats off!

Hi rlw– I remember reading in one of the fasting books that I’ve read ( I think I’ve read about five or six of them can you say obsessed!!) that you should chart your weight loss and it will have ups and downs but it should have an overall downtrend over time. And also it said that if the scale goes up sometimes just to weigh yourself less often so the scale does not frustrate you so much- one book said only once a month if the scale creates diet fatigue.
I am a member of the clean plate club and lately I can’t finish everything on my plate– only on feed days of course!!! What a new experience!! I am hoping as the weight comes off that the dimples (not the cute kind on your face) go away!! Anyone got any experience on that?

    On eating less:
My husband and I lately noticed that we cannot finish our chipotle bowls in one setting, so last time we shared one bowl. Both of us were full, and did not get that overeating feeling. Saved calories and money. Double win!

All this talk about Chipotle makes me want Chipotle! 🙂 I’m not sure I stick within the calories I need to if I eat there. Some things are too much for my willpower.

Good to hear Coldpizza- nice your HB is doing this with you! Yes I agree notfastenough- staying away from sour cream and guacamole are really hard for me!!

Lying in a hammock in Mexico, reading The Obesity Code. It makes so much sense.
