  • Have been thrilled with the 5:2 Plan. Have lost over 20 lbs. in 4 months. Slowly but surely… Will be at my goal in another month or two. My question is how are those on 6:1 doing? I see this as a plan for life and am concerned about putting the weight right back on when I stop 5:2. Is 6:1 really maintaining the weight loss? Can’t wait to have blood work done next month. Am sure it will be awesome.

Hi Delilah, congratulations, losing 20lbs must feel great.
I have been on 5:2 since March last year, I lost 12 kg (26lbs) by Christmas and have kept it off since. I don’t hold back on non fast days, so I have pretty much kept to the 5:2 structure. I recently got back from a 3 week overseas holiday with no fasting, just lots of eating. I was a bit worried I would find it difficult to go back to fasting but it was actually a relief. If I have a lot of social engagements (which are usually food centred) I sometimes only fit in one fast day but it doesn’t matter, I will try to do 2 the next week. The best thing is, you never have to feel guilty with 5:2. If you stress over your diet or feel bad about what you are eating, it is too hard to stick to 5:2 is very flexible and forgiving, it really is a way of life for me now. Friends, family and work colleagues have come to accept that there are just some days when I don’t eat much.
I have lupus and saw my specialist yesterday, after checking my blood pressure and the results of my blood tests, he recommended that I keep doing whatever I am doing.
Keep up the good work and make it fit your lifestyle, then its easy to stick with it.

Thanks so much for your encouraging words, Madge. So true. I see 5:2 as a lifestyle change not a dreaded diet. Just hit the lowest I have weighed since the 1980’s post Fast Day Thursday & bought the smallest jeans I’ve worn since my 20’s as a reward. We, too, are going to Europe next year for 2+ weeks & I don’t plan to fast while there. May do some 4:3 before then & also before the Holiday Season when I binge & put on most of my weight. Will try 6:1 in another month or two. Worst that can happen is I’ll go back to 5:2 a bit. Just don’t want to gain this weight back & then some which has been the story of my life. Once again, thanks for your input & congrats on maintaining your wonderful weight loss. I am getting blood work in early September & can’t wait to see those results. 🙂
