  • Northern Spain again.
    Just looking at your posts.
    Merryme you are right.
    Tiredness is hunger.
If you have dealt with tiredness by overeating in order to get through the day it becomes a problem-as it is in my case right now.
Bigbooty, how right you are when you say that AA meetings are not held in bars but we cannot avoid food entirely. It’s almost impossible not to have some treats in your home for other people. My twins are 12 and receive proper nourishing homemade food with some treats now and again. I want them to grow up with healthy eating habits and a balanced approach to food. But that means that I bake cakes or bread and make homemade pizzas so we are surrounded by wonderful things.
Anyway, thanks everyone for participating and sharing their thoughts. It’s uplifting and comforting to read.
Thanks again Coda for being on top of this forum -you’require a star😊

UK Day 34 – a day for control! My ‘I’m definitely going to have a FD today’ day!
Margo – love the excuse to buy a piece of jewellery…a bracelet would be an excellent reminder of what we’re trying to do.
A few people have mentioned bone broth…I’ve seen it on lots of posts over the last month…what is it, is it easy to make/buy?

Hola. You are correct Dollybird, you have to have some food in the house. Just don’t have things that have little value. I have three boys and I finally put my foot down and decided to not buy ice cream, chocolates, cream biscuits etc. There was a lot of protesting for about a week and now the kids don’t even miss those things any more. My eldest is nearly 21 and has also lost 20 kgs. All three of them would continuously walk past the fridge or cupboard open the door and mindlessly eat junk food. Not because they were hungry but because it was there. You don’t have to be a complete healthy food angel, just minimise the junk food content in the house. They still have treats, just not every 5 minutes.

    France Day 34 NFD

Hi Coda camping in France must be very soggy right now, we have had rain for ages here. Who knows next week could be sunny!!

Thank you so much Onahealthyhigh for your wisdom.

I suppose I am a yo yo dieter, though my diets have been rare. I have a wardrobe with clothes from size sixteen to size ten. I don’t like throwing away things that might come in handy, or that cost a lot, that I have enjoyed. So for example the Jaeger dress I used to keep because it is pretty and would look good if I could get in it, is now still hanging there with a new story of “I might take that in” It is a size fourteen and I am a size twelve by now.

Although a size twelve I have persistent roll on my waist that still needs to go, so I want to lose another four kilos.

Yesterday I ate a cauliflower curry and dared to eat a small naan bread that I made to go with the curry. I also ate a punnet of strawberries. This morning the weight is back up from 69.5 to 70.00. It is so unstable. I have been very careful on portion control.

I had hoped to eat one of the scones I made yesterday as a breakfast today, but I am scared. The scone mix was all new for me. It uses coconut oil, and almond butter with a mix of spelt flour and oat flour, then it included algave, and maple syrup as sweeteners, rather than sugar. The recipe also included the juice and zest of an orange and blueberries. They smelt lovely and I managed to resist one last night. If I did eat one today where would my diet be then?

I am going to look up the Sirt Food Diet. I have read about some of the foods you mention here having these properties. I hadn’t heard of strawberries being included. I love them at this time of the year. I think blueberries might be another food in that list?

Pacific NW USA: end of day 33 FD

Similar to Anaide I made my goal of a 48 hour, liquid only, b2b fast. I ended the fast tonight with a delicious micro greens and shrimp salad with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries for pudding. OK, UK citizens, that’s what you call dessert, correct? I LOVE this international forum!

My rather huge surprise today was that this second total fast day I felt very clear-headed, happy and energetic. With bone broth for lunch I did not get the follow-up “must eat” crazies that I had when I ate solid food for lunch the first FD I attempted this week. It really was an unusually easy 2 days of not eating. I chalk it up to so much of my fat is in the freezer (Dr Fung reference) to burn that I’m good for at least two days.

I have tomorrow’s menu planned out with SIRT foods included, thank you OHH! They dovetail right in with the HF/LC and I agree with you it’s all a win-win. I read and re-read your tips and I have buttonboots on my to-do.

Thank you Quebequoise for the support and reminding me that my health comes before the job. We worked out the modifications that I need somewhat with HR today, not that the battle is won, just a small victory.

HappyMango and ABC1 – I don’t usually eat ice cream but coffee flavor may become my new splurge!

    NFD tomorrow. Good luck all!

Minois – here’s the bone broth recipe from Dr. Fung. The actual recipe is at the end of this article:
    https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/bone-broth-broth-can-cure-cold-idm-6-2/
Basically it’s just a lot of simmering on a back burner then straining. Add any favorite herbs or spices to suit your taste.

    NL day 34
Huh??? Weight GAIN after a fast day? Spent most of the day gardening. Drinking only coffee and water. June 1: 1500 cals. June 2: 350 cals. The scales were up 0.4kg. this morning. I even LOOK fatter than 2 weeks ago. ..must be fluid retention. Today I’m going to limit fluid intake somewhat and see how my body responds.
I won’t give up because I feel I’m still figuring out what works best. Haha….trainee dieter!

    Good evening from South Australia

OH arrives home from work. No after work HFLC snacks or bottles of locally sourced vino rouge lovingly prepared and lined up on the table to welcome him home after a day at the coalface, the washing up from his breakfast is still in the sink and the cat is looking glumly at its empty saucer.

His Better Half is on the couch, still in her dressing gown and embroidered 5:2 slippers, lap top glowing in front of her, surrounded by an extensive assortment of empty coffee mugs and glasses of water with lemon slices in them.

“Hallo Dear what’s up? Have you hurt your ankle again? Not still on that computer forum thing are you?”

OH noticed she was compulsively rubbing a white oily substance into her arms that smelt strongly of coconut and that her eyes resembled the scarlet pomegranate seeds she had recently started eating by the bucketload.

    “Oh What? You’re home early”

“No it’s the usual time. Are you alright? Have you been on the computer all day you look a bit, well strained.”

“Yes well I’ve just been reading Dr Fung’s blog, watching TED talks and found Buttonboots’ thread. I’ve decided to mindfully make a sculpture of Doctor Moseley and all his Fast Books from a 250gram pat of butter, smashed avocado and flaxseeds. I thought I would call it ‘Moseley on the Mount’. Then I’ll hand knit you a jumper with an apple vinegar bottle on the front. That will keep my hands busy so I don’t binge. I can recycle the wool from some of my old big jumpers I can’t wear any more.”

“I think,” says OH quite gently, edging closer, his eyes watering with the coconut fumes, “it might be time to switch off the computer, just for a little while and then you can get dressed and we can go for a lovely walk before it gets too dark.”

“I don’t know…I haven’t done my HIT exercises yet and I haven’t weighed myself for over an hour…I’m not sure…and I have to check in with the 42 Day Challengers…Coda says we have to.. everyday and she’s got a big stick and there are so many post to get through and….DON’T TOUCH THAT OFF BUTTON!”

    Hilarious!!!

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!,!!!! That’s wonderful QsueπŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

OMG. (Did I really just write OMG?). Yes, I did, because that is just a brilliant post!

    What can I say,

Australia, day 34, evening of, nonFD,
    Onwards and Downwards,
    Merry
    Still laughing……

Thank you Qsue needed a laugh.

USA day 33,i am back from job late, today was my fasting day and now saying Good night

Qsue, love it, love it haha!

3 June Day 34 Surrey…..Going to go for a fast day today if possible, being with my family. QSue post is such a great laugh!

U.K. Day 34 NF day, which like so many others have commented seem to be harder than FDs

    Day 34– Colorado, USA

Oh my gosh, Onahealthyhigh! Thank you for your Fast Diet re-cap wrap-up!!!

It’s so good to have someone who’s “made it” and successfully maintaining show & tell us that it CAN be done. There’s been so much recent talk about The Biggest Loser contestants damaging their metabolism long-term, that I was getting nervous myself. THANK YOU for chiming in that this way CAN work!!

I’m going back to re-read your marvelous post again. I’m also going to re-read Dr. Mosley’s 5:2 book, Dr. Jason Fung’s blog, Krista Varady’s work & Andreas Eenfieldt (at diet doctor) to recharge my motivation!

    US SE Day 34 FD.

That is too funny Qsue…. Here’s to another day all!

….or maybe I’m following in QSue’s footsteps & need to pry my PJ wearing self away from my laptop a bit. πŸ™‚

Thank you for the giggle, QSue!

    Qsue! you have it nailed!

The most perfect subject of King Fung and KIng Moseley,

    …..and their wise emissary, Coda,

Long may your girth get smaller,

    and your thighs reduce,

and coconut shells clop wherever you go!

    I salute you!

USA Day 34, Fasting today. Will try to make it 36 hour no calories fast.
Really cannot catch up with all posts – not enough time. πŸ™
    Stay strong everybody.

US/Day 33 — QSUE – HILARIOUS!!!! Absolutely love it! What a great way to start the day by reading that (and other posts here).

Coda: today is my “official” weigh in day and since I won’t have access to a scale while on vacation (thanks for the well wishes πŸ™‚ ) I will report my results as of today as follows, from May 1 to June 3:

    Weight: down 9. 4 pounds

Measurements (May 1 to June 3):
    Breast = no change
    Waist = down -.5
    Hips = down -.75
    Thighs = down -2.3

    YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!

However, even better from the day I started this WOL (April 11, 2016) to current (June 3, 2016):
    Breast = down -1.5
    Waist = down -2.0
    Hips = down -2.0
    Thighs = down -2.3

    Pounds lost = – 16.2

I’m well on my way to reaching my ultimate goal — which will take all year – but as long as this keeps working, I will keep working it! πŸ™‚

I will be reading posts and posting while I can when on vacation, but it will be inconsistent (Coda, I know you have noted this already, thank you!).

Best of luck to everyone as you finish up the challenge. Looking forward to the next one!

    UK day 34 NFD today

Good morning everyone Challenge – 34 Brazil

I’ll see my weight tomorrow, I think this week was better!

Coda, actually the virus Zica is very worrying, especially in pregnant women, we have the same generating thousands of children with mental retardation, all for lack of basic sanitation, the city where I live the problem is not so serious.

Now the Olympics the weather will not be as hot as it is winter, then the mosquito incidence is lower.

Onahealthyhigh – Thank you for the reminder.

Sorry if the writing is confusing because use Google Translate to write, but to participate in this forum has immense value to me.

    A big hug to everyone.

back2thefuture that good that you felt good doing 48 hours, I also felt great taking the bone broth.

The amazing thing is be better than fasting after eating, I do two years that eliminated carbohydrates, especially sugar and flour with gluten.

I found it very good a phrase I read somewhere that he said:

Β  “Fasting is difficult to work out if you do not wean the carbohydrates.”

I do not know if Google Translate and left this sentence.

Day 34 Gloucestershire, UK: Fast day. I am extra hungry today and finding it a struggle. I just need to hang on for another hour before I can eat a small meal of less than 500 calories (approx….I don’t count exactly, just guess…ha…ha). Usually I have two boiled eggs and two slices of toast. I hope that’s about right?
Anaide, let’s hope we can both get off the plateau soon and lose some more weight! I’ve been waiting for about two weeks, fasting 3 days per week mostly, as well. I thought intermittent fasting was not supposed to make the metabolism slow down….maybe it’s my age then.

Day 34. Wisconsin, USA….Qsue, thank you. I thought it might be odd that I was making a monument of Dr. Mosley out of butter. Now I see it isn’t strange at all.

FD today. Usually, Friday is my day to let go of the reins a bit. I did that yesterday instead, with a plate of nachos, a large glass of wine, and chocolate covered blueberries. I really went over the top. I had an upset stomach most of the night. It is interesting how your body reacts to over indulgence and poor nutrition when it happens infrequently. It’s plain to see these things aren’t meant for a body, or the body wouldn’t have such a difficult time with it all. Also interesting to note that you can make your body get better at digesting too much food, and poor quality food. The body may not react so quickly and severely as mine did last night, but we know the body will fight back in some way, which is likely the cause of who knows how many ailments that come along in life. Poor nutrition is just a bad idea.

I get to watch my oldest son graduate from high school tonight. He’s a silly little gem. While he never made the honor roll, he was voted by his classmates to be most likely to streak in front of a crowd (makes a mother so proud :)). Let’s hope he does not decide to streak at tonight’s ceremony. He’s a lovely young fellow, and despite his antics we are proud of him. Happy weekend all!!!

Got a surprise day off work today, but still automatically woke up at 4:10 AM. Been pretty productive so far.

OH was not feeling well, so I hopped on my bike & picked up what he needed at the pharmacy.
When I got home, my dog was so excited seeing me in my biking clothes (she “knows” exercise gear!) I couldn’t say No to her. So we headed out for a walk. Such a gorgeous morning, we ended up running instead just for fun!

Even with all that exercise, I’m on my 2nd load of laundry & got dishes done too. Still have only had coffee so far. Hhmmm? Just go ahead & make this a Fast Day? Think I might.

    US, Day 34…raining in NYC.

Back down in the 120s. Heading to 118. NFD breakfast of 1/2 sausage and 1/2 avocado on a small corn tortilla. Snack of handful of walnuts.

Clothes are loose. I took off my jacket recently and my friend commented on my arms.
RIPPING THE FAT COVER OFF THE MUSCLES!

UK Day 34 FD – so far so good!

Qsue – excellent post! So funny – I had a big smile on my face from your post to the end.
Rlw66 – well done you – excellent results. You will have to wait to the award ceremony at the end of the challenge to get your medal though!
Dollybird – phew so glad to hear from you again – I thought I/we had lost you. Please, please don’t give up – keep on reading and posting. We all have had bad days and they are the days you need support more than anything or I may have to wield that big stick lol! It is not giving up shows more strength. Apart from TTL has anyone else heard of Robert the Bruce? He gives a valuable lesson in not giving up – learnt no less from a spider. Google the story if you don’t know it.

    Hi,

California, day #34, only 8 days left. Today a FD, I’m struggling a little, I’m still on a medication that has weight gain as side effect. It’s very difficult not to gain weight these days because of the medication. At least I’ll try to maintain.

Since I started with 5:2 diet (on April 6) I lost 7 lbs and gained back 3 (recently) so I only lost 4 lbs. I am still happy with the result.

I’m not going to post here until Monday (May 6). Saturday and Sunday will be NFDs.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Switzerland – Day, er, 34 – FD

Great posts everyone, especially yours Qsue – apple cider vinegar cocktails all round!

Dutch, I wouldn’t advise you to cut fluids as a way of combatting fluid retention. From what I understand, it’s usually the other way around, and more to do with what you eat. For example, rice ‘passing through’ your digestion can hold onto a lot of fluid and therefore contribute to a weight gain. Other suggestions include cutting down on salt and refined carbs, checking your magnesium and potassium levels etc. There’s a lot of info about it on this forum and on the web. Good luck!

Edzeko- how wonderful to watch your son graduate. Hope you have a great evening!

    RLW66 – way to go!!

I completely forgot that I was supposed to be fasting yesterday, and had breakfast, so chose to fast today instead. Not an easy day to fast through, but I’ve got loads done.

    Bring on the weekend!!

    Hi And….exhale,
Thanks for your reply! As far as I know I’m doing everything right. No rice, no bread etc. I don’t like sweets, candies, chocolate or cake, donuts, in fact, nothing sweet.
I use a calorie tracking program (www.voedingscentrum.nl) – a government site – and when I’ve entered all that has passed my mouth I get the warning: too little salt!
So that’s not the problem either.
I quit using sugar years ago. A pack of sugar or salt will last me years! I love vegetables and nuts.
The only thing I can think of is that exercise is making me hold onto the fluids. Maybe it’s that in combination with a low cholesterol level? Just guessing here…Like I said- I’m still testing what works for me.
Other than that I’m not complaining. Fasting is a breeze <guilty look>
You’re right. There is a lot of info on this thread and others…..I’m still reading….!! Thanks again :>

:> ….Still trying to see the humour in everyday life.
Today I saw a postcard that read:
    “Mirror mirror on the wall…
    ………what the hell happened?!”
Now I’m wondering: is it humour or is it just so sad?

Day 34, Los Angeles. Thanks to QSue and everyone else for the funny and encouraging posts since yesterday — so many, almost more than I have time to read, but so worth the effort. Congratulations again to all of us still here, especially those finding it more of a struggle. And congratulations to Edzeko and son too.

NFD today. Yesterday’s FD went well and weight continues moving somewhat slowly on the right direction. ‘Till tomorrow!

    QuΓ©bec, day 34

Qsue, you are a really talented humorist. So funny because my HB has similar remarks as yours. Thanks for the laugh.

Beautifull sunshine here in QuΓ©bec City near the magnificent St-Laurence River.

NFD today. I will probably fast tomorrow or Sunday. Third this week.

    Take care and Enjoy x

Day 34 – Roasting in Central California. It is projected to be 105 today. Today is a NFD. Yesterday was a FD and did well until I found some ice cream. Still, I managed a 1/2 lb weight loss for the week.

I really enjoyed the posts today. Qsue, thanks for the laughs. HappyMargo, I love the bracelet idea. Since it will be so hot today, l am going to stay inside and look online for a bracelet that will get my attention as I put something I shouldn’t eat into my mouth. DorothyG, don’t give up. Just pick yourself up and start all over again. I start everyday drinking water and tea until lunch. I eat a very light lunch, but it’s dinner that gets me in trouble especially the snacking after dinner. That’s when I will really need to wear a bracelet to remind me to be aware. Right now handcuffs with my hands cuffed behind my back might be a good solution to prevent the evening snacking. It’s a thought.

Wishing a successful 5:2 day to all!

    Pacific NW USA: Day34 NFD

Already put in my 10,000 steps today but saying that makes me laugh because . . . of Qsue

Osue – please re-post your latest journal entry on the main page of fastdiet.co under ” Don’t take yourself too seriously, folks!” People in my office kept asking me what was so funny and I didn’t try to explain because you would have to be a rabid fast dieter to understand!

Anaide – your translations are very good. I have also weaned myself off carbs during this challenge. And I don’t particularly miss them. Keep up the good progress!

Edzeko – congrats on the grad!

OH spontaneously asked me if I had lost some weight! I’m back into my BIG cloths closet. I’m happy that they aren’t too tight because I remember when I gave up on them and said I wasn’t going to buy any more clothes until . . . I never did figure that out, just kept getting bigger until . . . I heard a reference about Dr. Mosley. (Again, Qsue is bringing a smile to my face!)

    Happy week end everyone!

Day 34 UK. NFD thanks qsue for a laugh, brilliant! Its been a very long busy day in the garden digging a patch full of brambles and other deep rooted weeds! I started well with fruit and yogurt lunch was salad, then this evenjng I really needed carbs, I mY have gone over the top and feel very full! I’m really annoyed with myself. But I know we have all been at this point!! So a good nights sleep is needed and a fresh start tomorrow.
Good luck all, onwards and downwards.

    Day 34 Scotland
A bit late to check in, but delighted to report a 2 pound reduction after a good fast day yesterday.
Might one over my TDEE today. Been very busy and ended up with a big lunch and dinner. Just going to check my calories on myfitnesspal before turning in.
Qsue – I might have been that person in the beginning that you are poking fun at! Couldn’t stop grinning all day. OH thinks I’ve finally lost it! Pleased to say the obsession has gone (except for the daily weigh in).
Much more relaxed about things now and actually enjoying my fast days. Goodnight all. TTL

    Northern Spain again
    Day 34.
Thank you again Coda for your words of encouragement.
I remember the story of Robert the Bruce very well. I read about him in school and his story was always very inspiring. But sometimes I try to make life easier and take things on at a day at a time.
Today was a good day. It was a FD and had a cheese omelette for lunch.
Tomorrow is not a fast day so I will need to be careful.
Great to read all about your weight losses.
Rocy65 don’t give up. Keep on going. As you say yourself we’ve all been there.
It’s not really about the falling down but about the getting up and moving forward.
We’re losing weight and building character at the same time -or at least we’re trying
    Goodnight everyone

Aussie day 35 NFD today our turn to cop the rain we need it just not that much. weighed this morning 4 kilos gone since start 4.5 cm off waist 5.5 bust 3. hips thought my pants felt funny thank you everyone couldn’t have even started this without all of you especially Coda. I hope everyone else is staying dry and safe.

Australia Day 35 NFD – rain rain go away … It is Saturday! Pastry pastry stay away I need to make this diet pay!

    Australia, day 35, nonFD,

Did a stupid thing and ate a burger roll yesterday when I should have just had the filling! Sometimes I land in a cafe for lunch that has every item on the menu having some form of grain, sigh. Too tired to find a different one. Haven’t ordered a burger for at least 2 years. It was grilled chicken a small piece of bacon, rocket leaves and grilled capsicum filling. Damn. I am grain intolerant too, especiallybwheat. Up a kg this morning (2.2lbs). I know when this happens it’s mostly fluid and if I ‘m careful today and drink plenty of water it will go quickly. If I ever have to do it again it will be the chicken burger and hold the bun!

Today, going to a meeting where there’s always Australia’s favourite biscuit front and centre, initials TT, not naming it! The Ozzies will know what I mean

    Onwards and Downwards,
    Merry

Thank you for your kind encouragement re my posts. I am sometimes not good at being concise when I get too tired, and I just ramble on. And when I’m tired, my brain is tired too and I can’t always tell the difference. At the moment I am carrying an injury in my leg and it’s making me more tired than usual. Thank you so much for the feedbackπŸ™‚
    Hugs to you,
    Merry

    Australia – Day 35 – 7 days to go of challenge πŸ™‚

Well I had some good news yesterday when I went clothes shopping. The general consensus of the 5 shops I went into was that I am an AUS16. I did need a 14 in some tops πŸ™‚ Going from an 18 in Autograph and even the 14 was too big in there. So no wonders my clothes were falling down. Looking forward to doing measurements next weekend to end the challenge. I am expecting that some cm have come off.

An eating day today πŸ™‚ Picking up some new chooks on the other side of town. As a family of 5 we eat a lot of eggs!
    Take care everyone.

    USA 34of 42
    NFD down 3pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah

    NL day 35

    Wishing everybody a great weekend!

    Switzerland Day 35 – NFD
Up early baking cake for school sports day. It’s quite grey out, so might be a sports day without actual sport – apparently if the grass is wet it gets too slippy to run. Poor things have been practicing all week so I hope it brightens up soon!
Have a great Saturday everyone – stay strong!

    Aus day 35. NFD.
Very happy with today’s weigh in. Another week of successful maintainance. Always happy to see the scale stay the same. I needed two fast days this week mainly due to too many wines and too much cheese but I’m in this for the long haul. Sometimes I don’t need to fast but I feel better if I do.

Coda we’re off on holiday tomorrow. I’ll check in when I can. Celebrating our 40th anniversary! Where did the time go?

Have a successful and enjoyable week everyone. All things are possible.

Onahealthy congratulations on your ruby anniversary. We will celebrate our 36th anniversary later this month and I too wonder where did the years go? I have it noted you are on hols. Enjoy.

    Have a good weekend everyone.
