  • Well, since singing has come up, I need to share these links, or you could Google search on the BENEFITS of singing: http://takelessons.com/blog/health-benefits-of-singing http://www.prevention.com/health/6-health-benefits-of-singing https://heartresearch.org.uk/fundraising/singing-good-you

I used to teach a unit to my 6th graders all about singing and brought up how good it is for a healthy body.

    Day 14 Norway FD
“Jeg er ikke sulten,” is how you’ say that you’re not hungry in Norwegian.
This 2nd fd’s been fine except that from about 3pm I had trouble summoning the energy to do anything too mentally demanding. Head felt heavy but empty, and this despite plenty of fluids.
Fuvvie – I can see why embroidering would keep you away from food, especially with the white thread and cloth of the Hardanger work. Looks like the sort of thing they put on shirts, blouses and aprons worn with the bunad (national costume) here.
Being a Kiwi, I chuckled at the “yeah, nah..”. In Norwegian they have a similar word – “nja” (pronounced nee-yah) – which is a contraction of “nei” (no) and “ja” (yes).

    Day 14, UK, FD

Greetings all. How are we 3 day pocket fasters doing?

My day 2 has been better than day 1. Up to 380kcal (loads of soup, and tea with milk). Also a wee bit of HIT just to try and warm up.

Good news… is that I stepped on the dreaded new scales for the weekly weigh-in. Only 0.7kg down – which isn’t great for 5 midweek fasts. But them’s the breaks on this diet I think. Overall loss for Feb is 1.7kg now which is 3.7lb. I may not get to the 9lb I set at the beginning of the month, but I’ll be well chuffed if I get to 8lb. My aim was to get off a plateau, so I’m doing that.

Not so good news is that It’s Valentine’s day and some of the romance has gone… 🙁 I bought my beautiful wife Lindt choccies, roses and a nice card. She ‘ahem’ bought (or rather got) me a card from somewhere and crossed the word ‘Anniversary’ out and scribbled ‘Valentine’ near it, and gave it to me with a bar of Aldi milk chocolate. Ha ha! Cheapskate! At least the chocolate isn’t tempting in the slightest. And at least I finally got the Anniversary card she forgot to give me last summer.

Stay strong everyone. And if you have a bad day, just shake it off and start again.

    Aussie day’s 14-15 FD today.

    DAY 15 NFD AUS
Official weigh in. Down another 300gm. Under 57kg again. Happy with that. Slow and steady does it.

    Day 13 / Sweden / FD
    Day 14 / NFD

    Day 15 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD

I’m fighting a cold and I have a daughter that is really sick right now, probably the flu. She will see a doctor later this morning. Right now getting the family back to healthy is the focus.

Day 15, Dunsborough, West Australia, FD

Down -1.7kg since 1Feb. My goal is to ditch 2kg during Feb, so looking good from where I sit.

    Australia Day 15 FD
So yesterday’s NFD was a disaster. Instead of breaking my fast at 40 hours I broke it as 36 hours with a toasted ham and cheese sandwich! This did have a little silver lining in that because I had eaten I did not have any of the cakes etc at the birthday morning tea we held for a colleague. I then had a relatively healthy chicken noodle soup for lunch but then the Valentine’s Day dinner hit – several champagnes, several tequilas, seafood starter with bread, chicken with mushroom risotto, a dessert share-plate and then home to have more champagne and chocolates. So am struggling through a FD today to help balance that catastrophe and because we have a birthday dinner tomorrow night. Why is everything based around food?

    Day 15, NZ, FD

    Day 15 – Perth AUS – FD

Yesterday was extremely hard. I exceeded my energy intake target, but it was still below TDEE, so better than what might have happened if I’d said to myself “ah stuff it”.

    Day 14 – Canada – NFD.

    ❤️❤️ Everyone!

    Day 14. Quebec. NFD

10 hours on the road today ! En route towards Florida. Tired but happy.

    Happy valentines day xxx

    Day 14|CD|Toronto

    Day 14 U.S.

NFD. Yesterday’s fast day went well, but I felt really tired. Maybe just the state of my life as I am exhausted by work and kids.

    Day 15 Sydney – NFD

FINALLY my scales have moved. I was beginning to think I needed to buy a new set. 400g down this morning after nothing since 31st January. Had a really good FD on Monday and a clean day yesterday. Also have ramped up my exercise a bit this week now that the 40 degree days have passed. I know from past experience that this happens from time to time when following this regime, and it will pass, but it is frustrating when you are in the middle of it!

Stay strong dear fellow fasters – stick with this and you will see results…..

    Day 15 NZ NFD

Day 15 Tasmania Aus FD 66.1kgs

Happy to be fasting today, need to move that number in a different direction.

    Day 14 US FD
My first b2b was a success. The second day really is easier than the first! Weighed in at 153.0 so I’m down 3 pounds so far. Very happy with that. Wishing you all lots of love this Valentines Day!

    Day 15 NFD Oman
Had a really good FD yesterday but just before bed I snaffled a tiny slice of the gluten free cake I’d made! Oh well…I’m down 1kg this month so far. Even though I have a lot to lose I’d be happy to lose 2kg per month.

    Day 15 FD Sydney

    Long term goal weight: 73kg
February challenge Goal weight 79kgs (7kg loss)
    Day 1: 86.7
    Day 4: 85 (1.7)
    Day 11: 84.5 (0.5)
    Day 15: 83.8 (0.7)

    Day 28: 79 (7.7 kg in Feb)

So the weight is coming off slowly but surely. The best way they say.
Good to see most of you are experiencing similar.
We are half way through the challenge already.

    Day 15 UK FD(3/3 Pocketeers FD)-1/2 lb total 5.5 lbs original goal 4 lbs (result ! )

Woke up with a blinding headache yet I always ensure I drink enough everyday. Could be because I slept 8 hours in one go, first time since I returned from NZ last week. So all my tried and tested sleep preparations worked. Just guzzling water now then may even catch another hour nap before I get up.

FD was quite tough yesterday as I visited a friend and then did some food shopping.
I stayed strong. This friend is very sickly, has been for over 25 years, suffers irritable bowel syndrome, not pleasant! also Fibromyalgia. She is a worrier which adds to problems. I encouraged her to give up sugar 2 years ago and this has greatly reduced the symptoms by at least 50 %. She was addicted to sugar this was a fantastic achievement. But she still has no colour(skin tone), energy and a shocking fitness level. We walked my dogs to the beach, stone stairs about 60 steps, she Was breathing hard coming back. She is not overweight and 10 years younger than me. I think daily walking and taking Kefir will help her so I made her some and have ordered a pedometer. Apart from work (Hotel shift receptionist) she has no social life apart from visits from her two nieces, her daughter lives in Australia. This is no way to live! We all need a life and we all need to feel healthy and strong. Doctors have never been able to help her so she will need to be proactive with health changes but it’s tough when you have low energy levels.Don’t wait for summer start walking now, join a walking group, there are lots around 7 days a week.

Do you know anyone you can help? Focus on them? Take the focus off yourself, set yourself as an example as someone in control of making their own life better through weight loss. Be a leader not a follower!

That is my inspirational lecture today, Enjoy!

Health and social benefits of singing in a choir are essential in my life as is Yoga, swimming and Bowls which is FUN. Find an outlet that adds to your life, it can be anything that you have always wanted to do( that’s legal of course) Ha Ha no bank robbing please.

    Day 15 – Switzerland – FD

Back on the wagon for me. Thanks for the support @ajcaroline, I guess I do turn to food to cheer myself up or to paper over the cracks when I’m feeling down. Hope your stressful week is working out okay. I just need to put my big girl pants on and get on with it. As they say, this weight ain’t gonna lose itself…

Day 15 Sunshine Coast Australia NFD

Just checking in. Enjoyed those links, SongBird.

    Day 15 -Staffordshire UK-NFD

    DAY 15 – UK – NFD

Had a good day yesterday…despite a lovely steak dinner and cheesecake to celebrate Valentines day – we also went for a 19k walk, which obviously helped, as I lost a lb. yesterday and am nearly at my pre holiday weight….I reckon in a few days of sensible eating within my tdee will do it….and then I might be able reach my Feb. target.

Watched a really interesting programme last night on people who had lost humongous amounts of weight, and all bar one had put in all on and more (it included winners of Slimming world and US’s Biggest Loser.) It seems that extreme calorie reduction is not the answer – body readjusts its metabolic rate which slows right down – it spends its whole time fighting against weight loss…. the person who had kept it off did 2hrs of extreme exercise a day and watched every mouthful…others took their eye off the ball and gradually got into the same pattern of eating too many calories each day and because of reduced metabolic rate put the weight on faster than before!! It was quite depressing. I concluded that weighing every day/weekly must be the option, and dealing with weight gain immediately the only way. Lots and lots of exercise and healthy eating and this WOL (5:2) where you aren’t reducing calories every day and as said before on this site, tricking your body into thinking you aren’t cutting right down must be the answer. There was no easy answer given at the end of the programme – research is ongoing as to how to boost metabolic rate….. It made be wonder whether continuous f d’s do more harm than good??

Anyway out to day to Oxford to see “Degas to Picasso” exhibition, and a meal at Jamies afterwards – so no fast day for me……but I shall try and stay within my tdee….and I feel a lot more comfortable with that now, after watching the programme. No more continuous f.d.’s for me.

    Good luck all. xx

    Good luck all –

    DAY 15 – Cardiff UK – FD

    Starting weight : 173.3lb

    Today’s weight : 167.3lb (6lb)

Good NFD yesterday and managed to STS. Had a great meal with a creamy mushroom sauce which was really decadent but made up for the sugar I’ve given up.

Still stressful at home. Hubby’s wound infection has cleared but GP has now confirmed shingles so he’s on antivirals 5 times a day to try and reduce severity. Unfortunately the rash is on his head and face so he’s getting intense headaches and pain in his neck. Bless him, he has no luck, these headaches are on the opposite headaches he gets from a brain tumour.

Still, despite all the stress, which is constantly at quite a high level, I’m not turning to food for comfort, so some positive there.

Good luck to the pocketeers on their last FD.

    Day 15 FD Portugal

So this is the third of the b2b2b fasts. Yesterday wasn’t as good as I had hoped. All was going well until we went out last night … it was hard to resist the 5 or 6 chocolates and the small (at least it was small) glass of Port. This added about 300 cal to my 500 calories already eaten at dinner. The only consolation is that I did a decent workout yesterday which cancels out some of those excess calories. I will count yesterday as a partial fast and continue today. It will be hard as we have family over from Ireland visiting us … meeting them for breakfast (I will just have a cup of tea) and then they are coming over for dinner. Need to be very careful and mindful of what I eat. Homemade pizza and salad – so I’ll eat lots of salad and allow myself two slices of pizza. No dessert for me!

There are a few of us pocket fasters on the third day, right? I will be constantly thinking of you, also fasting, to help me through the temptations of today!

    Day 15 UK NFD

Well I weighed myself this morning and the scales say I am 97.5kg, a 2.5kg loss for the week. I was not expecting that! I knew it was going well, but not that well. It is probably a bit of a blip just in the nicer direction. I may well be disappointed next week but I’ll enjoy this for now. Only a week ago I was getting really disheartened by upwards blips. How quickly things can change for the better! If I can just hold onto this I will have achieved what I wanted to achieve in February – staying below 100kg for the first time in twenty years. Next target – getting below 200lbs for the first time in 25 years…

    Day 15, UK, FD

Another pocket faster on day 3.

Going well. Not hungry at all. Brighter weather helping mood. Running later if I can clear my work early!

@monkeydo – that’s very impressive weight loss. Keep it up. I’m a wee bit jealous. I’m trying hard this month and losing, but it’s not as rapid as yours! Ay karamba! You must be fasting every day.

    Day 15 – USA – FD

@fatrabbit – you go, girl! It must be wonderful to see progress after such a long time. I’m happy for you!!!

It’s such a great jolt to my motivation to continue this WOL and reading all the posts!

I turned one of my best girlfriends on to 5:2 last week. She tried it for the first time and is now hooked and telling others at her work place! Woo hoo!

I’m making some other changes in my life which are not pleasant, yet they are necessary for my sanity’s sake. Hoping to continue 5:2 despite these.

    Day 15 Melbourne FD

Well Done Everyone!! Just for still being here and keeping on keeping on. We are the A Team 😄 and I’m very glad that You All are in my team x

    Day 15, Newcastle UK, NFD

    Starting weight 1st Febuary 65.6kg
    Today’s weight 65.1kg

Only 0.5kg loss but with no trips/nights out between now and the end of the month, I’m feeling confident of further loss. Interestingly my YUMAI scales that measure body composition tell me that my body fat percentage has gone up. So I’ve lost half a kilogram but not shifted any fat so far.

I’ve just looked back at my starting post and see that I hoped to lose 2-3kg this month – hahaha – I think I must have meant 2-3lbs. I’ve only just started trying to use kgs instead of stones and ounces.

All the best everyone for the second half of our February challenge.

    Day 15 Surrey UK NFD

Been awol the last number of days due to all sorts of reasons. Don’t want to go on about it right now, but suffice to say my focus has been elsewhere. Hoping to get back to the right mindset soon.

    UK Day 15

FD for me today. Had a good NFD yesterday and stuck within my TDEE even with the wine!:)

    Today’s menu:

    Breakfast: Mug of tea
    Lunch: Soup – 220 calories
    Dinner: Chicken & Veg – 270 calories

LynzM I going away early tomorrow for a few days so I won’t be posting but I will be back on Monday.

Have a great weekend one and all and happy fasting!!! x

Day 15 FD Virginia (USA) 171 lbs down 5 for Feb

Setting off on a b2b, my 4th all-time. They always end differently but are surprisingly uniform in practice. I’m terrible about counting calories but my NFDs have become more calorie restricted and I’m still stuffed after eating. I have a lot more energy too. Listening to a youtube video on keto two days ago and a colleague came over, asked questions and took notes.

    Be of good cheer !

    Day 15: Belfast NFD.

I was going to fast until dinner time today but got a nice invite to lunch so I’m just going to enjoy it! Two days down successfully and only 1lb down on the scales which is disappointing. I seem to have hit that dreaded plateau, with the scales going up and down with the same two pounds or so. The challenge for the next 4 days is to keep the weight off. I’m off to my sister’s for a few days, and her hospitality is always exceptional, so I need to pack some willpower too!
Thank you for all the musical links. Must look and see what choirs are in our area.
Thank you also @linz for co-ordinating this fine forum.
Good luck to all the pocketeers who are fasting on.
    TTFN

    Day 15, UK, FD.
Weighed and measured this morning and have lost 2.2lbs, so total loss of 6.3lbs and over an inch off my bum since started 5:2 February fast challenge.
Thanks LynzM for creating the challenge!
    Good luck today all.

    Day 15/ U.K./ NFD

Updated status: Day 15 – Perth AUS – NFD

@jarbia your post got me thinking. I’ve been getting really tired after meals, and think my body’s trying to conserve as I’ve been doing multiple fast days. Time to tweak things 🙂

Day 15– Colorado USA — FD

Heading back into work today. Alarm clock goes off at 4:30 AM. Have to clock in by 6:00 AM to have OR ready for first surgeries of the day. Man, have I enjoyed my 3 months of Medical Leave… No Alarm Clocks!!

My poor kitty & dog can’t understand why their morning routine has been thrown off. NO extra time for walkies, play or snuggles (while reading posts. That will have to wait till tonight.)
However, my FD today should go much smoother than when I attempt them at home with kitchen fridge & pantry Right There!

Everyone have a great day. Think positive thoughts: we *can* do this, we are stronger than we think, especially as a group!

    Hi everyone,
Some good results and the thread is sounding a lot more positive.
    Go fasters🔨

    Day 15. Hampshire, UK. NFD

I am managing to get in two FDs per week which is good!

I am losing 1lb per week (this is on average since November when I was only doing 1 FD per week).

I am 4lbs away from target weight! However, this means I won’t achieve my goal by end of Feb as we are already on 15th and I am only losing 1lb a week.

I eat completely normally [and drink wine :0)] on NFDs. I am happy that I am closing in on my goal, even though I won’t achieve it by end Feb. I am happy that this is a WOL not a quickie crash diet!

Once I achieve target, I will go back to one FD per week.

Question: I never used to feel ill the day after a FD, but since Christmas I have been getting palpitations, disturbed sleep and not feeling great until I’ve had a decent (but healthy) breakfast the day after a FD.

    Can anyone relate to that?

    Thanks!

Day 15: FD AZ USA. last of my B2b2b with my pocketeers.

Today is going to be tough. Heading to Phoenix with friends and going to IKEA and American girl store with a bunch of toddlers. I know I’ll be needing a glass of wine about 5pm, but those calories will have to wait til tomorrow.

@johnnyr you had all of us as your Valentine’s! No need to be “meh” ❤️❤️❤️

Day 15 USA (Illinois) – NFD

Yesterday’s FD went quite well. I even got in a 12 minute power walk, and cleaned out the refrigerator. Yeah! It’s amazing how quickly shelves and drawers can get so dirty.

@jarbia – fascinating program about ‘biggest losers’ who gain it all back. In my experience trying to maintain since mid November, I can see how easy it would be to gain back my 30+ pounds. Daily weighing seems to be working for me, losing those few pounds I gain right back off.

@pashaw – hugs to you for giving support to your husband. I can’t imagine those kinds of pains at the same time. Shingles is stress related, they say, so little wonder he’s come down with it. Mine was waistline about 10 years ago, but still awful.

@fivetwofan5252 – one pound a week is a good rate of loss on this WOL. That was how mine came off too, and is very sustainable. But then there seem to be weeks with 2 or even more. Just remember you’re supported here by so many who know this works! I’ve had those same problems after a FD at times until my next breakfast. I think some of our bodies just react that way. I’ve had an irregular heartbeat about all my life, so maybe that is tied in with it?

    Onward and downward

Georgia/USA/Day 15/NFD: Back at it again!!

Day 15: NFD in Gloucestershire, UK…..gone off piste…
It was supposed to be a fast-day. HA!
    Will try again on Friday.

Day 15 NSW Aust – NFD
Sorry things have been hectic. Last weigh in Day was tues and only down 200 grams on the previous week. Still sticking to around the 1760 calories per day on NFDs and 500 on FDs so more exercise i think or my metabolism has slowed. That said I’ve really noticed that my clothes are loose. So not sure whats going on. Water also continúes to be a struggle. Work is stressful and sleep is still an issue.

Day 15, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Everything went great yesterday, ate some grilled veggies and part of a salad for dinner (couldn’t finish it all). Drank at least a gallon of water/tea/flavored water yesterday.

    Today’s weight 145.2, Starting Weight on 2/5 – 152, Goal Weight 145

    To your health, all.

    Day 15 – London – NFD
